Abstract:
Fiber-optic sensing (FOS) are an emerging technology in hydraulic fracture diagnosis. Fiber-optic sensing technologies mainly include distributed temperature sensing (DTS) and distributed sound sensing (DAS). During hydraulic fracturing, the perforation cluster efficiency for cemented plug and perforation (PnP) wells, points of fracture initiation for packer and sleeve (PnS), and fluid channelling between fractured intervals caused by either tubular or annular leaks could be quantitatively evaluated by DTS data. Combined with DAS data, fluid distributions for each fracturing stage along the entire horizontal wellbore could be obtained. The roles of DTS and DAS in different hydraulic fracture stages are comprehensively analyzed in this paper. It provides a guidance for application of FOs in oil industry.

Different Decision Diagrams (DDs) for representation of discrete functions are discussed. DDs can be derived by applying some reduction rules to Decision Trees (DTs) which in turn are graphical representations of some function expressions for discrete functions. Various DTs and their generalizations based on lesser known AND-EXOR rather than AND-OR expressions are surveyed. Finally, the concept of spectral interpretation of DDs and some of their applications and ways of calculation are also presented.

Abstract:
AbstractDistributed temperature sensing (DTS) uses Raman scatter from laser light pulsed through an optical fiber to observe temperature along a cable. Temperature resolution across broad scales (seconds to many months, and centimeters to kilometers) make DTS an attractive oceanographic tool. Although DTS is an established technology, oceanographic DTS observations are rare since significant deployment, calibration, and operational challenges exist in dynamic oceanographic environments. Here, results from an experiment designed to address likely oceanographic DTS configuration, calibration, and data processing challenges provide guidance for oceanographic DTS applications. Temperature error due to suboptimal calibration under difficult deployment conditions is quantified for several common scenarios. Alternative calibration, analysis, and deployment techniques that help mitigate this error and facilitate successful DTS application in dynamic ocean conditions are discussed.

Abstract:
Distress Tolerance Skills (DTS) are an important component of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a therapy method frequently used for treating patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, little is known about how DTS-training is experienced by individuals with BPD. The aim of this study was to explore BPD patients’ experiences with receiving DTS-training. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 24 individuals (87.5% females) with a primary diagnosis of BPD who received DTS-training in the context of 18 months of DBT treatment. Interview data were analyzed following the procedures of qualitative content analysis. Participants reported various effects of DTS including an immediate reduction of tension. Patients perceived DTS as a tool to cope with difficult interpersonal situations and emergencies and stated that this helped them to feel stable, safe and self-confident. Patients reported difficulties during the initial engagement, the learning process and the application of DTS as well as various facilitating factors. Implications of the findings for further research and for optimizing DTS-training in clinical practice are discussed.

Abstract:
Digital twins (DTs) is a promising technology in the revolution of the industry and essential for Industry 4.0. DTs play a vital role in improving distributed manufacturing, providing up-to-date operational data representation of physical assets, supporting decision-making, and avoiding the potential risks in distributed manufacturing systems. Furthermore, DTs need to collaborate within distributed manufacturing systems to predict the risks and reach consensus-based decision-making. However, DTs collaboration suffers from single failure due to attack and connection in a centralized manner, data interoperability, authentication, and scalability. To overcome the above challenges, we have discussed the major high-level requirements for the DTs collaboration. Then, we have proposed a conceptual framework to fulfill the DTs collaboration requirements by using the combination of blockchain, predictive analysis techniques, and DTs technologies. The proposed framework aims to empower more intelligence DTs based on blockchain technology. In particular, we propose a concrete ledger-based collaborative DTs framework that focuses on real-time operational data analytics and distributed consensus algorithms. Furthermore, we describe how the conceptual framework can be applied using smart transportation system use cases, i.e., smart logistics and railway predictive maintenance. Finally, we highlighted the future direction to guide interested researchers in this interesting area.

Abstract:
Abstract The dense tubular system (DTS) functions to regulate platelet activation by sequestering or releasing calcium, similar to the sarcotubules of skeletal muscle. In resting platelets, the DTS exists as thin elongated membranes. Within 10 seconds of the addition of thrombin, platelets show a major ultrastructural change in their DTS: from the thin elongated form to a rounded vesicular form. These morphologic changes were demonstrated with two different stains and two different fixation methods. Platelets exposed to the calcium ionophore A23187 showed the same ultrastructural changes in the DTS. In contrast, the DTS remains in a thin elongated form when platelets are stimulated by the protein kinase C activators phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and oleoylacetylglycerol (OAG). These morphologic changes may be related to the discharge of calcium from the DTS because this is stimulated by thrombin and A23187, but not by PMA. Preincubation of the platelets with the intracellular calcium chelator 5,5′-dimethyl-bis-(0- aminophenoxy)-ethane-N,N,N′,N tetra acetic acid (BAPTA) largely prevented both the thrombin-induced rise in intracellular calcium and the changes in DTS morphology, suggesting that the changes in DTS morphology are secondary to the increase in cytosolic calcium. The results provide a morphologic correlate to existing biochemical evidence showing that the DTS is involved early during paltelet activation.

Abstract:
Digital technologies (DTs) are proven helpful in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry due to their varied benefits to project stakeholders, such as enhanced visualization, better data sharing, reduction in building waste, increased productivity, sustainable performance and safety improvement. Therefore, researchers have conducted various studies on DTs in the AEC industry over the year; however, this study explores the state-of-the-art research on DTs in the AEC industry by means of a bibliometric-qualitative review method. This research would uncover new knowledge gaps and practical needs in the domain of DTs in the AEC industry. In addition, bibliometric analysis was carried out by utilizing academic publications from Scopus (i.e., 11,047 publications for the AEC industry, 1956 for DTs and 1778 for DTs in the AEC industry). Furthermore, a qualitative review was further conducted on 200 screened selected research publications in the domain of DTs. This study brings attention to the body of knowledge by envisioning trends and patterns by defining key research interests, journals, countries, new advancements, challenges, negative attitudes and future directions towards DTs in the AEC industry. However, this study is the first in its vital importance and uniqueness by providing a broad updated review of DTs in the AEC literature. Furthermore, this research laid a foundation for future researchers, policy makers and practitioners to explore the limitations in future research.

Abstract:
OBJECT The goal of this study was to investigate the significance of contrast-enhanced T1-weighted (T1W) MRI-based 3D reconstruction of dural tail sign (DTS) in meningioma resection. METHODS Between May 2013 and August 2014, 18 cases of convexity and parasagittal meningiomas showing DTS on contrast-enhanced T1W MRI were selected. Contrast-enhanced T1W MRI-based 3D reconstruction of DTS was conducted before surgical treatment. The vertical and anteroposterior diameters of DTS on the contrast-enhanced T1W MR images and 3D reconstruction images were measured and compared. Surgical incisions were designed by referring to the 3D reconstruction and MR images, and then the efficiency of the 2 methods was evaluated with assistance of neuronavigation. RESULTS Three-dimensional reconstruction of DTS can reveal its overall picture. In most cases, the DTS around the tumor is uneven, whereas the DTS around the dural vessels presents longer extensions. There was no significant difference (p > 0.05) between the vertical and anteroposterior diameters of DTS measured on the contrast-enhanced T1W MR and 3D reconstruction images. The 3D images of DTS were more intuitive, and the overall picture of DTS could be revealed in 1 image, which made it easier to design the incision than by using the MR images. Meanwhile, assessment showed that the incisions designed using 3D images were more accurate than those designed using MR images (ridit analysis by SAS, F = 7.95; p = 0.008). Pathological examination showed that 34 dural specimens (except 2 specimens from 1 tumor) displayed tumor invasion. The distance of tumor cell invasion was 1.0–21.6 mm (5.4 ± 4.41 mm [mean ± SD]). Tumor cell invasion was not observed at the dural resection margin in all 36 specimens. CONCLUSIONS Contrast-enhanced T1W MRI-based 3D reconstruction can intuitively and accurately reveal the size and shape of DTS, and thus provides guidance for designing meningioma incisions.

Abstract:
The efficiency of a heat treatment chamber depends on thermo-aeraulic conditions of the internal flow of phases in reaction. Thus, the determination of the Residence Time Distribution (RTD) was a global method of analysis used a long time in process engineering. It is a key parameter for a good interpretation of the macroscopic reactional processes in the processing units. It permits also to diagnose and to optimize the functioning conditions of thermal installations. The techniques for the determination of the RTD of solid phases remain delicate and complex to implement than those of gas phases. The choice of tracer depends then on the method used to detect the batch of tracer particles at the inlet and outlet of reactor. Some techniques were developped with the goal of as a simple determination of the solid RTD, but most are disruptive methods of the main flow. In this work, we develop a new tool for determining the distribution of residence time of the solid phase, based on the luminescence of the particles previously coated with phosphorent pigments. This optical method, non-intrusive and flexible employment, was first put in place at the laboratory scale, on an aeraulic trial bench. It was then applied on a circulating fluidized bed (CFB), in order of the validation at the semi-industrial scale. Its coupling with a gas RTD technique by tracing with the helium, has permit to deduct flow parameters such as average speed slip solid / gas and the void fraction of the diphasique transport

Abstract:
The legislature imposes the implementation of the 3T rule in order to ensure a correct conduct and performance of waste heat treatment installations. However, while the minimum levels of treatment temperature and air excess can be easily checked; the time of least residence of fumes suffers from a possible absence of site control. Our work leads to the characterization of hot enclosures internal aerodynamics. Thanks to our developed methodology, from now on, it is not only possible to measure the actual time of gases residence in a heat treatment enclosure during the course of operation; but it is also possible to analyze the internal flow pathologies of fumes in a given installation, and that's by analysing the internal age's distribution of the gas molecules constituting the fume. This type of measurement can be carried out on site, thanks to a portable injection\detection metrological set. We extended the mentioned methodology, to the determination of the residence time distribution particulate (SRTD). The existing sampling/analyzing system was initially applied to the characterization of solid/gas flows of a circulating fluidized bed model. Then, it was used for the procedure of the determination of solids residence time (SRTD). Finally, the coupling of the SRTD methodology with the GRTD methodology, was applied on the determination of gas/solid flow aeraulic parameters (velocities: gas, particle and slide, porosity. . . )

MBA Professional Report
Study compares airline tickets purchased through the Defense Travel System (DTS) for Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) travelers to prices for similar tickets available at online travel agent (OTA) and carrier websites. The study's purpose is to determine if prices are significantly different and if savings can be achieved by purchasing tickets from different sources. The study finds that DTS tickets are cheaper than carrier refundable tickets, but more expensive than nonrefundable carrier and OTA tickets. Sensitivity analysis indicates nonrefundable tickets would have to average 1.83 and 2.72 changes per ticket, before itinerary changes offset cost savings for nonrefundable carrier and OTA tickets purchased, respectively. Similarly, 26% and 39% of nonrefundable carrier and OTA tickets would have to be canceled to offset saving. Ultimately, this study can help determine if traveler flexibility achieved by purchasing refundable DTS tickets at negotiated "city-pair" rates from carriers is worth the additional cost. This study shows the flexibility achieved through DTS refundable tickets available in the city-pair program comes with a cost; which is the potential savings that could be achieved by using nonrefundable tickets. Annualized, potential savings at NPS could amount as much as $2 71,007 if there are no itinerary changes or cancellations.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Infiltration and inflow (I/I) are common problems in the foul sewer system. A method to detect I/I that is not commonly used in Sweden is DTS, Distributed Temperature Sensing. DTS is based on continuous measurements of temperature over a predetermined distance in the sewer system. The I/I is detected as temperature differences in the temperature data that is registered in the sewer system. The measurements often take place over a couple of weeks or months in the sewer system. The aim of this project was to review previous studies where DTS was used to detect I/I in foul sewers.  Data from a wastewater treatment plant in Umeå together with meteorological data were analysed to be able to visualize the problem of I/I and then suggest how DTS can be applied in Sweden. Both automated and visual analyses was performed to find if there were any relationships between wastewater temperature, wastewater flow and precipitation.   The outcome was that it is possible to apply DTS in the foul sewages to detect I/I. DTS seemed to be able to detect I/I in all types of sewage material, however it is dependent on that the I/I temperature differs from the temperature of the foul sewage water. It is an expensive technique but if it is meant to be used many times to analyse bigger areas it can be worth the costs. If larger areas are to be investigated, the costs for DTS and current methods are approximately the same.  At the wastewater treatment plant in Umeå, a slight relationship between wastewater temperature, wastewater flow and precipitation could be detected. The degree of dilution was calculated to 1,34 which means that about 25% of the sewage water is I/I. The conclusion from this was that I/I exists in the foul sewers in Umeå. The leakage points could not be located with this analysis. DTS could be a possible method to detect the leakage points of I/I in foul sewers. Unlike smoke tests, colouring and video-inspection of the sewers, DTS might be able to detect smaller leakage points.

Abstract:
AbstractDigitalization has tremendously challenged how international opportunities are created and captured. Inspired by researches in the field of both entrepreneurship and international business, this study provides a comprehensive framework toward the impact of digital technologies (DTs) on opportunity pursuit in foreign markets. We identify two perspectives of DTs, i.e., DTs as ‘driving force’ and DTs as ‘disrupting force,’ which characterize DTs as a catalyst of experiential knowledge acquisition, and as a factor altering the relative significance of experiential knowledge to opportunity pursuit, respectively. By bridging these two perspectives with the notion of market-specific knowledge and general knowledge within internationalization process theory, some arguments with regard to what specific influences DTs play on international opportunity pursuit are further introduced. We hope this study can potentially offer some nuances to both practitioners as well as the research in the interaction of digitalization and international opportunity.

Abstract:
AbstractOne important behavioral aspect of collaborative embedded systems (CESs) is their trustworthiness, which can be assessed at runtime by evaluating their software and system components virtually. The key idea behind trust evaluation at runtime is the assessment of system interactions and consideration of an extended set of actors that influence the dynamicity of these systems. In this sense, the behavior of collaborative embedded systems and collaborative system groups (CSGs) is part of a more complex behavior of digital ecosystems that form around the collaborating systems. One way of performing runtime virtual evaluation of such complex behavior is through the implementation of digital twins (DTs). DTs are executable models fed with real-time data that allow behavior to be observed and analyzed in concrete technical situations. The use of digital twins enables goals to be evaluated in holistic scenarios at three different levels: strategic level, tactical level, and operational level, as we present in this chapter.
