Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
To clarify the differences between microbial communities resident in disease suppressive soil (DSS) and disease conducive soil (DCS) in tobacco cultivation, representative soil samples were collected from tobacco plantations in Shengjiaba, China, and the structure and diversity of the resident bacterial and fungal communities were analysed using high-throughput sequencing technology. Our results showed a greater number of operational taxonomic units associated with bacteria and fungi in DSS than in DCS. At the phylum level, abundances of Chloroflexi, Saccharibacteria, Firmicutes, and Planctomycetes in DSS were lower than in DCS, but abundance of Gemmatimonadetes was significantly higher. Abundances of Zygomycota and Chytridiomycota were higher in DSS than DCS, but abundance of Rozellomycota was significantly lower. At the genus level, abundances of 18 bacterial and nine fungal genera varied significantly between DSS and DCS. Relative abundances of Acidothermus, Microbacterium, Curtobacterium, and Colletotrichum were higher in DCS than DSS. The Shannon and Chao1 indices of DSS microbial communities were higher than those of DCS communities. High microbial diversity reduces the incidence of soil-borne diseases in tobacco plantations and promotes the formation of DSSs.

Abstract:

Decision support systems (DSSs) are used in precision farming to address climate and environmental changes due to human action. However, increments in the amount of data produced continuously by the latest sensor and satellite technologies have recently incentivized the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). A review of research dedicated to the application of DSSs and AI in forecasting crop disease is proposed. In this paper, the authors describe the DSS LANDS developed for monitoring the main crop productions in Sardinia and the case study conducted to forecast potato late blight. A feed-forward neural network was implemented to investigate if weather data provided by regional stations could be used to predict a disease risk index using an AI technique. The test performed by stratified k-fold cross validation achieved an accuracy of 96%.

Abstract:
While DSS development methodologies and implementation research are abound in the DSS literature, a gap still exists in terms of the ability to provide a holistic conceptual structure for improving the management and development of decision support systems, the ability to capture and share understanding of key DSS development processes, and most notably, the ability to provide guidance for DSS development and process improvements. This paper proposes a Decision Support System Capability Maturity Model (DSS-CMM). The model leverages related DSS literature and input from DSS researchers and practitioners to identify pertinent DSS development processes and capability levels. From a theoretical perspective, DSS-CMM provides a meta-model for DSS development processes and represents the first maturity model specifically targeting DSS development. From a practical perspective, the model provides a framework for organizations to assess the capability level of their DSS development processes and devise process improvement initiatives to address any limitations with existing practices.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Danggui-Shaoyao-San (DSS), a famous Chinese herbal formula, has been widely used in the treatment of various diseases. Previous studies have shown that DSS produces antidepressant-like effect in rodents. This study aims to investigate the mechanism(s) underlying the antidepressant-like action of DDS. The results showed that DSS treatment significantly antagonized reserpine-induced ptosis in mice. In addition, DSS treatment significantly increased sucrose consumption in chronic unpredictable stress- (CUS-) treated mice. DSS treatment also markedly attenuated CUS-induced decreases in noradrenaline and dopamine concentrations in mouse brain. Furthermore, DSS treatment significantly reversed CUS-induced increase in serum malondialdehyde (MDA) content and decrease in serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in mice. The results suggest that the antidepressant-like activity of DSS is probably mediated by the modulation of central monoamine neurotransmitter systems and the reduction of oxidative stress.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to propose a theoretical decision support framework, which integrates artificial intelligence (AI), discrete-event simulation (DES) and database management technologies so as to determine the steady state flow of items (e.g. fixtures, jigs, tools, etc.) in manufacturing. Design/methodology/approach The existing literature was carefully reviewed to address the state of the arts in decision support systems (DSS), the shortcomings of pure simulation-based and pure AI-based DSS. A conceptual example is illustrated to show the integrated application of AI, simulation and database components of the proposed DSS framework. Findings Recent DSS studies have revealed the limitations of pure simulation-based and pure AI-based DSS. A new DSS framework is required in manufacturing to address these limitations, taking into account the problems of flowing items. Research limitations/implications The theoretical DSS framework is proposed using simple rules and equations. This implies that it is not complex for software development and implementation. Practical data are not presented in this paper. A real DSS will be developed using the proposed theoretical framework and realistic results will be presented in the near future. Originality/value The proposed theoretical framework reveals how the integrated components of DSS can work together in manufacturing in order to determine the stable flow of items in a specific production period. Especially, the integrated performance of case-based reasoning (CBR) and DES is conceptually illustrated.

Abstract:
The communication interface technology of Model Base Management System (MBMS) and Database Management System (DBMS) is one of the key technologies for successful implementation of Decision Support System (DSS). This paper firstly introduces the concept model of communication interface between MBMS and BMS in DDS. Then it makes an analysis of the principle of communication interface between MBMS and BMS in DDS. Based on the analysis, three ways of its implementation are proposed: Standard Format Method, Function Method and Embedding Method, which finally realize the ODBC-based application of communication between MBMS and DBMS in DSS. This paper is of great reference significance for solving communication problems among database, model base, data warehouse, knowledge base, expert base and method base, and for accessing heterogeneous data or even extreme data in such emerging Decision Support Systems as Distributed DSS, Group DSS and Intelligent DSS.

IntroductionDoctors have many constraints in their professional practice, which influence negatively the quality of their performance. This causes a psychological distress.AimTo compare job satisfaction (JS), burnout (BT), anxiety, depression and coping strategies among doctors of medical (DMS) and surgical specialities (DSS).MethodComparative and cross-sectional study conducted among 33 DMS and 63 DSS with different grades, in the university hospital Farhat Hached Sousse, Tunisia. We used job satisfaction scale (JSS) to determine the degree of JS, hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) to evaluate anxiety and depression, the Maslach burnout inventory to assess the BT and the brief cope to determine coping strategies.ResultsDMS were older than the DSS (P = 0.005). The MSC had more unsettled family life (P = 0.04) and more monthly guard (5.87 vs. 4.96, P = 0.03). DMS had more days of outpatient (P = 0.00), were more satisfied with the work schedule (P = 0.00), conditions of the guards (P = 0.02). Relationships with colleagues were more satisfactory among DMS (P = 0.001). DMS were less confronted to violent events (P = 0.03). The average score of JSS was higher among DMS (P = 0.014). The BT was more reported in the DSS (P = 0.049). An average sub-score HADS-D (depression) was higher in the DSS (P = 0.00). An avoidance-focused coping was more adopted by the DSS (P = 0.02).ConclusionDSS were generally less satisfied in their work than DMS with obvious psychological repercussions. This incites to intervene in factors that interfere with job satisfaction to improve the quality of physicians’ performance.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:

Abstract:
We have previously shown that a deficiency of CD1d-restricted invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells exacerbates dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in Yeti mice that exhibit IFNγ-mediated hyper-inflammation. Although iNKT cell-deficiency resulted in reduced Foxp3 expression by mesenteric lymph node (MLN) CD4+ T cells in DSS-treated Yeti mice, the cellular mechanisms that regulate Foxp3 expression by CD25+CD4+ T cells during intestinal inflammation remain unclear. We found that Foxp3−CD25+CD4+ T cells expressing Th1 and Th17 phenotypic hallmarks preferentially expanded in the MLNs of DSS-treated Yeti/CD1d knockout (KO) mice. Moreover, adoptive transfer of Yeti iNKT cells into iNKT cell-deficient Jα18 KO mice effectively suppressed the expansion of MLN Foxp3−CD25+CD4+ T cells during DSS-induced colitis. Interestingly, MLN dendritic cells (DCs) purified from DSS-treated Yeti/CD1d KO mice promoted the differentiation of naive CD4+ T cells into Foxp3−CD25+CD4+ T cells rather than regulatory T (Treg) cells, indicating that MLN DCs might mediate Foxp3+CD25+CD4+ T cell expansion in iNKT cell-sufficient Yeti mice. Furthermore, we showed that Foxp3−CD25+CD4+ T cells were pathogenic in DSS-treated Yeti/CD1d KO mice. Our result suggests that pro-inflammatory DCs and CD1d-restricted iNKT cells play opposing roles in Foxp3 expression by MLN CD25+CD4+ T cells during IFNγ-mediated intestinal inflammation, with potential therapeutic implications.

Abstract:
PURPOSE: To determine the long-term disease-specific survival (DSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates after salvage cryotherapy for locally recurrent adenocarcinoma of the prostate and to identify pretreatment factors that have an impact on DSS and DFS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between July 1992 and January 1995, 131 patients who had received definitive radiation therapy (XRT) underwent salvage cryotherapy for locally recurrent adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Cryotherapy failure was defined as an increasing postcryotherapy prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level of ≥ 2 ng/mL above the postcryotherapy nadir, a positive prostate biopsy, or radiographic evidence of metastatic disease. Clinical variables were studied to determine whether there was an association with the DSS and DFS. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 4.8 years. The 5-year DSS rates were 87% for patients with a precryotherapy Gleason score ≤ 8 and 63% for those with Gleason scores of 9 and 10 (P = .012). The 5-year DFS rates were 57% for patients with a precryotherapy PSA level of ≤ 10 ng/mL and 23% for those with a PSA level greater than 10 ng/mL (P = .0004). The 5-year DSS rates for patients with a pre-XRT clinical stage of T1 to T2 and those with a clinical stage of T3 to T4 were 94% and 72%, respectively (P = .0041). The 5-year DFS rates for these groups were 90% and 69%, respectively (P = .0057). CONCLUSION: Androgen-independent local recurrences, Gleason score, and pre-XRT clinical stage were important factors that had an impact on DSS and DFS. The subset of patients cured by salvage cryotherapy seems to be small, and patient selection is important.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The performance of rectangular microstrip patch antenna with the edge feeding and coaxial feeding techniques with DGS (Defective ground structure) and DSS (Defective substrate structure) are analyzed. It was observed that the return loss for Edge feeding is -28.39dB, for DSS it is - 26.44 and return loss for coaxial with DGS is -27.50dB and for DSS is -28.52. VSWR is approximately equal to 1 for all designs and also it was observed that the Gain is enhancement in Edge feeding and Bandwidth is improvement with coaxial feeding. The antenna designing and simulation is done by using the ANSOFT HFSS Software.

Abstract:
Background: Dried blood spots (DBS) have been used to study the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in endemic areas and in high-risk groups. However, detection of HBV serological markers in DBS by ELISA assays has not yet been fully optimised. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the dilution level of anti-HBs when DBS cards are used as storage matrix implemented for ELISA. Material and methods: Antibodies against hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) were detected by ELISA. The following specimens were examined: serum samples from 20 patients paired with 20 DBS; serum samples from 20 HBV-vaccinated healthcare workers paired with 20 dried serum spots (DSS); and four different dilutions of Immunovenin. Different elution protocols were used in order to study the problem with sample dilution. Results: Specificity of 100% and sensitivity of 45% were established for DBS versus the “gold standard”. Dilution of the eluted DBS/DSS samples was established and in some cases the measured anti-HBs titre dropped under 10 mIU/ml. Correlation was not observed between the positive initial anti-HBs serum titres and the obtained values of DBS/DSS testing. Also, 20- to 50-fold dilutions were measured for eluted DSS samples when testing Immunovenin. Increasing of the eluted sample concentration raised DSS anti-HBs titre. Conclusions: In order to resolve the problem of dilution, it is necessary to validate different elution protocols because the small amount of sample in DBS showed lower titres.
