Abstract:
The continuous search for efficiency put forward higher requests to the machine tool for high speed and high acceleration, which makes the large-size and lightweight-designed feed drive system more likely to produce vibration during high-speed and high-acceleration feed operation. Ball screw feed system is the most widely used linear drive system in the field of industrial automation. Electromechanical Co-Simulation for ball screw feed drive dynamics is an important technique for solving vibration problems occurs in the feed motion. In view of the shortcomings of the current dynamic simulation model in the study of vibration of ball screw feed drive system, taking a ball screw feed drive system test bench as an example, an electromechanical co-simulation model based on the lumped parameter model of ball screw feed drive system was built up in this paper. Firstly, based on the axial and rotation vibration integrated dynamic modeling method of ball screws, the lumped parameter model of ball screw feed system was established. Secondly, through the integration of the simulation model of semi-closed-loop cascade control system and the lumped parameter model of ball screw feed drive system, an electromechanical co-simulation model was built up. Simulation result shows that, the co-simulation model of ball screw feed drive system can predict the vibration occurs in the feed operation caused by the servo controller, ball screw feed system or the coupling between them.

Abstract:
The paper deals with modeling, simulation and analysis of speed observer for induction drive. Mathematical model of observer is presented and its computer model is elaborated. Speed measurement results are compared with those obtained during simulations with induction motor model. Development and implementation of speed observer requires measurement of motor current and supply voltage. Simulated values of current and voltage are used in the proposed observer model instead of the real ones. Model of induction motor is developed on the basis of motor equations in stationary reference frame. Model of observer relies on nonlinear differential equations, describing performance of induction motor, additionally making use of the space-vector theory. The speed observer developed by means of direct synthesis from state equations is robust with respect to parameter and load variations.

Collaborative dynamics modeling of flexible multibody and rigid multibody for an electromagnetic direct-drive vehicle robot driver is proposed in the article. First, spatial dynamic equations of the direct-drive vehicle robot driver are obtained based on multibody system dynamics. Then, the shift manipulator dynamics model and the mechanical leg dynamics model are established on the basis of the multibody dynamics equations. After establishing a rigid multibody dynamics model and conducting finite element mesh and finite element discrete processing, a flexible multibody dynamics modeling of the electromagnetic direct-drive vehicle robot driver is established. The comparison of the simulation results between rigid and flexible multibody is performed. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the presented model of the electromagnetic direct-drive vehicle robot driver.

This paper presents an analytical model for the simulation of traction drive dynamics and control in ratio change processes. The model systematically incorporates the formulations on the kinematics, dynamics and control characteristics of traction drives. In the model, the motion parameters of traction drive components are coupled to CVT inputs and outputs, torque losses, as well as ratio variations. The characteristics of a dual-feedback ratio control system are formulated in Laplace transform and integrated into the overall CVT system. The model is implemented in Matlab/Simulink block diagrams and is capable of predicting traction drive performances under various ratio change conditions. The effectiveness of the model is illustrated in a numerical example by the comparison between the simulation and experimental data on key CVT performance parameters.

Abstract:
Planning for mass vaccination against SARS-Cov-2 is ongoing in many countries considering that vaccine will be available for the general public in the near future. Rapid mass vaccination while a pandemic is ongoing requires the use of traditional and new temporary vaccination clinics. Use of drive-through has been suggested as one of the possible effective temporary mass vaccinations among other methods. In this study, we present a machine learning model that has been developed based on a big dataset derived from 125K runs of a drive-through mass vaccination simulation tool. The results show that the model is able to reasonably well predict the key outputs of the simulation tool. Therefore, the model has been turned to an online application that can help mass vaccination planners to assess the outcomes of different types of drive-through mass vaccination facilities much faster.

This paper proposes an approach to improve the reality effect of fabric dynamic simulation based on mass-spring model. The major problem encountered in fabric dynamic simulation is the difficulty to determine the characteristic of material and the changes of deformation force. To solve this problem, feature points motion constraints are introduced into the mass-spring model. This paper also establishes a framework of an approach to recover feature points motion based on non-rigid motion trajectory representation model. Then the recovered 3D estimation of the fabric feature points are used to adjust the simulation computing process of the mass-spring model, and simulation results with good reality are obtained. The experimental results for fabric dynamic simulation demonstrate the feasibility of improving the reality effect by the proposed motion-estimation-drive approach.

Abstract:
In this paper, the dynamics of multiple-drive belt conveyors during starting is discussed. The aim of the research is to determine whether the belt sections in a multiple-drive belt conveyor can be viewed as a single-drive belt conveyor, and whether the DIN 22101 standard for the starting of a single-drive belt conveyor can still be used for the starting of a multiple-drive belt conveyor. A finite element model of a belt conveyor system was built in Matlab, consisting of a model of the belt and its support structure, and a model of the drive system. In this work, the simulations were carried out for the starting procedures of empty belt conveyors with varying number of drives. For each simulation case, the linear start-up procedure was tested. The simulations focused on the study of the axial elastic response of the belt. The simulations revealed that, by using more drives, the maximum belt stress during non-stationary as well as stationary conditions decreased. However, when using reduced starting times, negative stresses occur in the system. Overall, it was observed that the behaviour of each section between two drive stations in the multiple-drive belt conveyor differed from those of the single-drive belt conveyor. Therefore, the DIN 22101 guidelines for the start-up of a single-drive belt conveyor cannot be applied directly for the start-up of a multiple-drive belt conveyor.

Abstract:
This article highlights the dynamic analysis of a proportional valve controlled hydrostatic drive. Such drives are used widely in construction and mining applications. In the drive considered for the analysis, the speed of a bent-axis hydro-motor is controlled by varying flow supplied through a proportional direction controlled valve. A non-linear mathematical model using bond graph simulation technique is developed, where detailed model of the drive system including its loading arrangement is incorporated. From the test results of the pressure-flow characteristics of the valves, its port resistances are identified. Using them and taking into account various losses of the hydro-motor, the drive model is validated through experiments. The verified model is used to study the effects of the perturbations of some critical parameters on the transient responses of the hydrostatic drive through simulation. The proposed model may be useful for initial design of such drive and the development of control systems where these drives are used as actuators.

Abstract:
The paper deals with nonlinear simulation models of a drive consisting of the four-phase 8/6 doubly salient switched reluctance motor (SRM), the four-phase dissymmetric bridge power converter and the closed-cycle rotor speed control strategy carried out by the pulse width modulation (PWM) with variable angle and combined control scheme with the PI algorithm. All presented considerations are based on a MATLAB-SIMULINK platform. The nonlinear mathematical model of the analyzed SRM drive was obtained as a combination of the two dimensional (2D) finite element model (FEM) of the motor and the nonlinear model of the electrical network of the power supply circuit. The main model and its seven sub-modules, such as the controller module, one phase simulation module, rotor position angle transformation module, power system module, phase current operation module, “subsystem” module, and electromagnetic torque of one phase operation module, are described. MATLAB functions store the magnetization curves data of the motor obtained by the 2D FEM electromagnetic field calculations, as well as the data of magnetic co-energy curves of the motor calculated from the magnetization curves. The 2D specimen insert method is adopted in MATLAB functions for operating the flux linkage and the magnetic co-energy at the given phase current and rotor position. The phase current waveforms obtained during simulations match with the tested experimentally phases current waveforms at the same rotor speed and the same load basically. The simulated rotor speed curves also agree with the experimental rotor speed curves. This means that the method of suggested nonlinear simulation models of the analyzed SRM drive is correct, and the model is accurate.

Abstract:
Feed drive systems consisting of servo motors and ball screws are generally used with NC machine tools, wire bonders, tip mounters, etc. Higher speed and accuracy are continuously required to the feed drive systems. In order to achieve higher performance of the systems, it is effective to analyze the dynamic behaviors using simulations. This study proposes a feed drive simulator consists of parameter identification and simulation modules. The parameter identification module consists of 3 sub-modules; identification system for friction forces, identification system for frequency response, and identification system for electric delay. The identification algorithms for unknown parameters are newly proposed. The simulation module is based on a mathematical model which consists of mass, inertias, stiffness, damping, frictions, servo gains, electrical delay, and control frequency. The simulation module also has a servo tuning function. The simulator, which includes a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was developed using Visual C++. Actual feed drive systems were used to confirm the effectiveness of the simulator. It was confirmed that the simulator identifies parameters systematically, simulates physical values for different motions, and automatically determines servo gains based on the parameters identified.

Abstract:
An identification technique is introduced for identifying closed loop transfer function of machine tool’s feed drive systems to be used in simulation of the tracking and contouring performance of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine tools. The identification is performed from air-cutting tests utilizing only standard G-codes containing linear motion commands. A general transfer function model is derived for representing the closed loop tracking response of the feed drive system. The model considers the drive to be controlled by commonly used controller schemes such as P-PI Cascade, PID or the Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) with feed-forward dynamic and friction compensation. The parameters of the model transfer function are fitted tominimize the discrepancy between the actual and predicted axis position on the axis. In order to guarantee the stability of the identified model transfer function, bounds on the pole locations are imposed. The resultant constrained non-linear optimization problem is solved efficiently using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method. For achieving reliable convergence of the stochastic PSO algorithm, a parameter tuning strategy is presented. Simulation and experimental studies show that the identified feed drive model captures the fundamental dynamics of the drives system accurately for simulating their closed loop response. Combined with the kinematics of the machine, contouring errors of 5-axis CNC machine tools during simultaneous multi-axis motion are predicted.

Abstract:
Introduction: Hybrid technology has been successfully incorporated into the industry of passenger and commercial vehicles. Driven by the success and benefits that hybrid technology brings, many defense organizations around the world invest in the development of hybrid technology for combat vehicles and develop prototypes of tracked combat vehicles which have lower fuel consumption, better performance, better exhaust emission, and additional onboard electric power. However, various technical challenges must be resolved before it comes to the introduction of hybrid tracked combat vehicles in operational use. Several successful tests of prototypes have been conducted so far, but there are still restrictions on key technologies such as electric motors, electronics, and storage of electricity. In such conditions, where finance is limited, mistakes cannot be allowed nor spending a lot of resources on planning, building prototypes, and testing. Method: Therefore, it is clever to run the simulation software with which it is possible to examine various parameters in simulated conditions which more or less mimic real operating conditions. This paper aims to show one of possible solutions concerning the selection of appropriate technologies of hybrid drive, to propose a system solution for a hybrid BVP M80A, and to display a simulation hybrid drive model and the results obtained from the model devised in Simulink. Results: The results obtained by the simulation show that the proposed hybrid drive solution provides better performance while retaining key drivetrain elements of the vehicle. Conclusion: Only turning parameters are considered during the simulation but it is clear that the hybrid drivertrain has advantages related to straightline motion as well. Also, sound projections about the drivetrain performance and control can be made with the use of the proposed model.

The authors present the study of synthesis methods for simulating the models of semiconductor rectifiers. Simulation of semiconductor rectifiers is quite studied today, but many authors carry out synthesis in their own unique way. The need to apply high technologies in variable speed drives with the development of mechanisms and working machines is growing, the automated variable speed drive is being introduced increasingly, making the energy substrate for aggregates and working machines. The relevance of this work is explained by the fact that currently developing technologies make it possible to manufacture more advanced semiconductor elements. The more relevant and significant is the study of refined digital models of electric drives containing semiconductor converters. This paper will summarize known approaches to the development of rectifiers’ digital models, as well as it will offer the authors’ own vision of this issue – taking into account as many individual features of semiconductor elements and the entire electric drive system as a whole as possible. The option proposed for consideration differs in that when developing in Matlab environment the parameters of real existing power elements and their digital analogues are consistent. The article also examines the issue of creating a digital model of the electric drive reverse system including a thyristor transducer and an engine; the transition characteristics of the refined model are illustrated. The result of this study is the analysis of different approaches to modeling semiconductor converters in electric drive systems. In this regard, a refined approach to modeling semiconductor rectifiers was considered, consisting of maximizing approximation of the model structure to real implementation, taking into account all elements, included in the structure of the ventilated electric drive. The study suggests that the developed simulation models can be used for the design of a real power converter in the conditions of a production enterprise.

Abstract:
Abstract Co-simulation is a method which makes it possible to study the electric machine and its drive at once, as one system. By taking into account the actual inverter voltage waveforms in a finite element model instead of using only the fundamental, we are able to study the electrical machine's behavior in more realistic scenario. The recent increase in the use of variable speed drives justifies the research on such simulation techniques. In this paper we present the co-simulation of an inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous machine. The modelling method employs an analytical variable speed drive model and a finite element electrical machine model. By linking the analytical variable speed drive model together with a finite element model the complex simulation model enables the investigation of the electrical machine during actual operation. The methods are coupled via the results. This means that output of the finite element model serves as an input to the analytical model, and the output of the analytical model provides the input of the finite element model for a different simulation, thus enabling the finite element simulation of an inverter fed machine. The resulting speed and torque characteristics from the analytical model and the finite element model show a good agreement. The experiences with the co-simulation technique encourage further research and effort to improve the method.

This paper introduces a new concept about pressure coupling in dual hydraulic motor synchronizing driving system. The mathematic models of systems are established in together-drive mode where two hydraulic motors together drive one common load and peer-to-peer mode where two motors drive one load respectively. Based on these mathematic models, a simulation analysis is conducted to probe the influence exerted by pressure coupling on the frequency response and the model consistency of two hydraulic motors, which gets verified by simulations and experiments later. The results show that pressure coupling reconstructing mathematic models of systems improves the model consistency of two motors and ameliorates synchronization performances.

Abstract:
To improve the design of electric drives and to better predict the system performance, numerical simulation has been widely employed. Whereas in the majority of the approaches, the machines and the power electronics are designed and simulated separately, to improve the fidelity, a co-simulation should be performed. This paper presents a complete coupled co-simulation model of synchronous reluctance machine (SynRel) drive, which includes the finite element model of the SynRel, the power electronics inverter, the control system, and application examples. The model of SynRel is based on a finite element model (FEM) using Simcenter MagNet. The power electronics inverter is built using PLECS Blockset, and the drive control model is built in Simulink environment, which allows for coupling between MagNet and PLECS. The proposed simulation model provides high accuracy thanks to the complete FEA-based model fed by actual inverter voltage. The comparison of the simulation results with experimental measurements shows good correspondence.

This paper sets up a model of belt conveyor driven by two drive pulleys and three motors based on AMESim. The starting performance of conveyor is studied in three cases of motor starting interval: without time interval, with three second interval, and with five second interval. The conclusion is as following: the longer the time interval, the smaller the impact on the belt, and the acceleration of belt and gravity take-up. The simulation design suggests that three second interval and dual gravity take-ups should be taken. And the output torque of drive system should be reduced by 8—15%.

Abstract This paper presents a computationally efficient method for modelling an impact of the converter drive on the power grid. The formalized variable structure method (FVSM) allows for comprehensive studies of the effect on the power grid and examining the relation between this effect and the number of drive and feeding line parameters. In order to obtain a comprehensive model along with the model of the power grid, the parameters that are applied originate from a drive of a coal-fired power station. These parameters have been determined based on assessment and estimation. The estimation process was conducted with the aid of a model that allows for the commutation of power electronic elements. The authors confirmed that the model was correct by comparing empirical and theoretical voltage and current waveforms. Harmonic content of the voltage and current in the power grid which feeds the drive are considered to be the measure of the converter drive impact on the power grid. The standard method for the reduction of a harmonic content in the voltage and current involves the application of line reactors and distribution or converter transformers. As an example, the authors determine the impact of the drive on the power grid with respect to the adopted parameters of the line reactor. This example presents FVSM abilities with regard to simulation of complex systems that contain power grid components and converter drives.

Abstract:
The drive axle is the core of the powertrain in automotive vehicles, and numerical simulation is a common and effective approach for designing and analysing drive axles. This article develops a new numerical simulation method for drive axles considering the nonlinear couplings between gears and bearings. Two types of models are proposed and integrated: a reduced model with nonlinear bearing elements and equivalent gear elements, which is efficient for nonlinear bearing simulation, and a gear contact analysis model with equivalent bearing stiffnesses, which can accurately reflect the gear mesh conditions and system deflection. The equivalent gear mesh parameters used in the reduced model are derived from the contact analysis model, and the linear equivalent bearing stiffness matrices used in the contact analysis model are derived from the reduced model. Therefore, the static equilibrium condition of the entire drive axle system is obtained through an iterative calculation process involving the two models under the same load condition. The good correlation between the numerical and experimental results of the gear-loaded contact pattern indicates that the proposed method is reliable.

Abstract Here we present one of the more complex models for studying the stability of driving an electric car with electromechanical differential systems. The purpose of simulation is to choose a structure of the control system for a velocity control on driven wheels (an algorithm of a differential) most appropriate for the driver. This type of goal is particularly important in the case of a disabled driver sitting in a wheelchair. The modeling takes into account both the mechanical and electric structure of the vehicle, and finally the human element - a simple model of human impact on the steer by a wire system. Modeling and simulation have used MBS package (SimMechanics). The results of the simulation have showed the best algorithms of an electromechanical differential for the velocity control of rear drive wheels: with setting a velocity difference or with an average velocity controller in the point A of the centre of a car front axle.

Abstract:
The ability of metal plastic forming and the mechanism performance of the part are correlated with grain granularity of the metal. Grain growth is a prominent character of the microstructure evolution. It is very helpful for the design of process and die structure to study the mechanism of superpalstic deformation and microstructure evolution of superplastic forming. The microstructure evolution of material is impact directly the mechanic performance of the component in superplastic forming. It is necessary to optimize the complex process and to predict the microstructure evolution. A new simulation method that integration the finite element simulation and the microstructure simulation of superplastic forming is introduced in this paper. Monte Catlo method is an odds simulating technique and can simulate time course of microstructure evolution. Based on the studies of superplastic grain growth mechanism, the superplastic grain growth rate equation are derived in this paper by coupling static state anneal grain growth mechanism and deformation stimulated grain growth mechanism. The grain growth drive force of superplastic deformation includes mostly boundary energy and distortion energy. A new drive force model is derived based on energy model. The microstructure evolution is correlated with the stress and strain of the part, and the integration of superplastic forming FE simulation and microstructure evolution MC simulation is realized. Using the integrating simulation technique can predict not only the forming process but also presenting grain growth image of the part. Experimental studies of the part in forming process and microstructure evolution were performed.

Abstract:
Simulation models of the ship propulsion system play an increasingly important role, for instance in controller design and condition monitoring. However, creation of such simulation models requires significant time and effort. In this paper, the application of deterministic identification techniques on a DC-electric ship drive train is explored as an alternative for data-driven identification techniques that require extensive measured data sets collected over long periods of ship operation. First, a nonlinear and a linear simulation model that represent the dynamic behavior of the propulsion plant are developed, and the main parameters to be identified are defined. Then, a set of experiments on a model scale boat in the bollard pull condition are conducted using an ad hoc experimental setup and data acquisition system. Subsequently, various types of identification techniques are applied, aiming to determine the unknown model parameters. Eventually, a comparison is made between experimental and simulated results, using the different sets of the estimated parameters. The value of the demonstrated approaches lies in the fast determination of unknown system parameters. These parameters can be used in simulation models, which in turn can be used for various purposes such as system controller development and tuning. Furthermore, periodic determination of system parameters can support condition monitoring to detect faults or degradation of the system. The latter point directly deals with the condition-based maintenance issue; in fact, monitoring the propulsion plant parameters over time could allow for better management (and timing) of maintenance. Although the developed ideas are far from ready to be used on the full-scale, the authors believe that the methodologies are promising enough to be developed further towards a full-scale application.

In this paper, the modeling for the driver-vehicle system is firstly described, and the relationship between weighting coefficients of driver model and system parameters is examined through test data. Secondly, the corresponding road test results are presented in order to verify the vehicle model and obtain the information on drive model and vehicle parameters. Finally, the simulations are carried out via CarSim. Abstract:
Bar lapping is a key process in fabricating computer hard disk drive heads. The purpose is to remove a small amount of material so that the transducer stripe height variation across the bar is minimized. In this article a method of simulating the material removal process is established. The Preston model is identified to be a reasonable constitutive relationship relating lapping rate to pressure and relative velocity. A pressure estimation method is established based on the modified beam on elastic foundation model (MBOEF) to incorporate the effect of surface shape. Simulation is conducted based on the proposed constitutive relationship and MBOEF. Results show good agreement with production observations. Hence the simulation model is used as a tool for identifying the structure of the lapping control model. The pressure dynamics of bar lapping is then identified. The process model is constructed based on the pressure dynamics and the Preston model. A controller is then designed using a trajectory following formulation. Simulation of the controller shows that it is robust to parameter uncertainties. This controller is implemented on a Seagate lapping system. Experiment results show that the proposed method is less sensitive than the existing method to the quality of the bar preparation processes prior to lapping. However, the gains should be appropriately adjusted for optimal performance. With good preparation processes and appropriate gains, performance of the proposed and existing methods are statistically comparable. Otherwise, the proposed method performs better. The proposed method is inferior to the existing method only when its gains are improperly adjusted.

Abstract:
A new harmonic drive model considering the geometry, internal interactions and assembly error of key parts is proposed in this paper. In this model, a single tooth pair is used to represent the transmission mechanism of harmonic drive. The meshing stiffness between the flexspline and the circular spline, the torsional stiffness of the flexspline cylinder, and the radial stiffness of the thin-walled ball bearing are included and formulated. The kinematic error is fitted using a low-velocity test, and its generating mechanism is analysed. The friction of the harmonic drive is formulated at the tooth meshing section and at the ball bearing, where its parameters are identified based on experimental results. Based on the new model, velocity step simulations are conducted. For comparison, velocity step experiments at eight different velocities from 60 to 3000 r/min are performed, and the simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The new model reveals the dynamic behaviour of the harmonic drive system; therefore, it will be useful for the dynamic design and precision control of harmonic drive systems.

The classical approach to the design of hydraulic drives includes complex calculations and real tests, which is a resource-consuming process. Reduce the cost of design allows the introduction of the development of simulation modeling and CAD / CAM / CAE / PDM automation complexes of the production cycle of enterprises. Modeling allows us to use systematic basis methodological achievements of the theory and practice of hydroautomatics for the design of hydraulic devices to accumulate in the orderly form design experience and provide model support for the life cycle of these products. The article deals with the modern approach to the design of hydraulic drives. A type of a preliminary evaluation of hydraulic drive characteris-tics is given in the example of a hydrodrive of a lifting and mast device. The principle and design schemes of the hydraulic drive are chosen, and a mathematical model is compiled on the basis of the requirements for hoisting and mast devices. A simulation model of the drive is developed on the basis of the mathematical model, consisting of several separate parts connected together. Parts represent a mixed structure of blocks that describe processes in mechanical and hydraulic systems. For visual display an animated 3D model has been created that allows you to observe the progress and results of the simulation. During the calculations, the position dependence graphs of the each link of the lifting and mast device on time, as well as pressure and flow on the safety valve were obtained. Conclusion, based on the results of modeling, was made about the adequacy of the application of models for estimating the characteristics of the projected hydraulic drive in the first approximation.
