Hargreaves, Ian. 5. Up to a point, Lord Copper’s: who owns journalists? Oxford University Press, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/actrade/9780199686872.003.0006.

Abstract:
Traditionally, we imagine journalists to be free-spirited mavericks unbound by rules and regulation. However, most modern journalism takes place within a corporate setting. ‘Up to a point, Lord Copper’s: who owns journalists?’ explores issues of news media ownership, noting the decline of the press baron. There are many good political, economic, and cultural reasons to care about who owns the institutions from which we get our journalism. Can any conclusions be drawn about which ownership conditions make for a great newspaper or a great TV news channel? Experience says that the goal should be to achieve the greatest diversity of institutional form possible.

Tonguette, Peter. Picturing Peter Bogdanovich. University Press of Kentucky, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5810/kentucky/9780813147314.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Drawn from interviews conducted from 2003 to 2019, Picturing Peter Bogdanovich is a unique double portrait of a filmmaker and a fan. As the director of such New Hollywood classics as The Last Picture Show, What’s Up, Doc?, and Paper Moon, Peter Bogdanovich is considered one of the first superstar directors of the 1970s, whose celebrity equaled that of many movie stars of the era. Growing up as an admirer of Bogdanovich’s films, film critic and journalist Peter Tonguette first had the chance to interview Bogdanovich for an online magazine piece in 2003—kicking off what became a decade-and-a-half series of conversations about his life and his films. The first part of the book features Tonguette’s exhaustive, film-by-film survey of Bogdanovich’s career and personal account of getting to know Bogdanovich; the second features a Q&A drawn from sixteen years’ worth of interviews, encompassing all of his film and TV projects, his background, his triumphs, his tragedies. The result is a film book like few others in its depth and detail.

Abstract:
This chapter details Mancini's return to television. Mancini was offered his own TV series, to be called The Mancini Generation, on which he would discuss and demonstrate film music to a syndicated audience. Undertaking the series was a colossal commitment. The music materials were drawn from his whole backlog of arrangements alongside some new charts, but in addition to the musical rehearsals there were camera rehearsals and host-segment preparations all of which were shot together during one four-week period and then sliced up for insertion into the shows. Unique to each show was a sequence during which Mancini invited one college student enrolled in a film course at some university across the country to take a past Mancini recording and conceive, shoot, and edit an experimental film based on the music. The short films, then, were shown on the program, and Mancini used the opportunity to push support for film and film-scoring study courses in schools of the future. The Mancini Generation was eventually seen on 150 stations nationwide and also led to an RCA album sporting the series title, his first jazz-pop album since the 1960s.
