Full textThe intermittent control aims to increase the efficiency of the machine-converter system by reducing the losses. In the purpose to maintain the average torque of the machine required by the load, this control increases the reference torque and turns off some phases during each electrical period or each mechanical period. By this fact, it reduces the converter losses and the ferromagnetic losses of the machine. It also has a freedom in the selection of the activated phases which influences the generated frequencies of the current, the radial force and the torque. Therefore, this strategy of the intermittent control, which is called sliding strategy, can avoid the excitation of the natural frequencies of the stator, or those of the drivetrain. It aims to reduce the negative effects of the intermittent control vis-à-vis the vibration of the stator and the pulsation of the drivetrain which are respectively at the origins of acoustic noise and mechanical jerks. Finally, the intermittent control is validated on driving cycles and can save up to 5.17 % of the consumed electrical energy

Full textFor electric vehicles, traction from storage battery to the wheels through the engine is the heart of the system. It regularly enjoys technological innovations making this vehicle more attractive. Currently, machines offered by manufacturers are classic, synchronous and induction machines. With complex laws, they offer good performance. However, manufacturers are exploring new unconventional machines to reduce their manufacturing cost while maintaining performance. One possible solution is the switched reluctance machine (SRM). Indeed, its design is simple and made of inexpensive materials. Its rotor completely passive gives it a very good robustness and high rotational speed required for certain compactness. However, its operation is much more complex than for other machines, it is relatively noisy and has significant torque ripple. Our work contributes to the improvement of SRM’s performance in terms of control torque characteristics and global efficiency over a large range speed. They were driven on two axes: one control axis and one design axis.To satisfy a torque control as perfect as possible, new currents controller both efficient and relatively simple to implement on software target were first presented. Then we proposed a SRM's control implementation on hardware and software targets. The objective is to maintain the performances in the case of an important sampling period, especially at high speeds. So an FPGA circuit (Fied Programmable Gate Array) was used.To improve torque characteristics depending on the speed, and global efficiency, a new SRM structure has been proposed. It is provided with an auxiliary coil creating a magnetic excitation in each phase. A study was initially conducted using simulations based on a new model. It helped to highlight the benefits of excitement compared to a conventional SRM. To validate the results, a prototype was then designed, built and tested. An important part of this work has been devoted to the implementation of experimental platforms and implementation of numerous tests to validate the theoretical developments, both in terms of control on a 8/6 SRM and design on a 6/4 SRM

Full textAn analytical model of doubly salient switched reluctance machine magnetic noise prediction and a new technique of active noise reduction are proposed. The studied machine is described as well as the analytical expressions permitting the determination of mechanical deformations and acoustic intensity. The main contribution of this research consists in determining analytical expressions of magnetic origin forces which create vibrations and noise. A 2kW 8/6 machine permits to validate several theoretical points such as mechanical resonance frequencies, phase inductances or vibratory and acoustical spectra. Existent noise reduction process are also described as well as influences of geometric parameters - such as teeth or yoke dimensions- on noise. At last, a new technique using current injection into auxiliary windings is performed and validated on an available prototype

Full textThe present work concerns, at first, the sizing of switched reluctance machine with its associated inverter. We identified the most important parameters which can play an important part on the weakening of the machine: stator and rotor angles, air gap, and number of turns… After that, we proposed a methodology for the elaboration of control laws that can be easily implemented into a numerical embedded control. These laws, based on preliminary parametric studies, was developed in order to limit torque ripple at low speed and to ensure high global efficiency at high speed. In the final part of the thesis, we proposed a new control mode called continuous mode. By using this mode, the torque and then power in field weakening mode can be increased considerably without any hardware modification. Moreover, this continuous the impact of design trade-offs

Full textThe present study concerns the implementation of the switched reluctance machine in variable speed motor drives. In order to make this machine more competitive in various industrial applications, we were interested in its control (current, torque, speed) according to both conduction types: discontinuous and continuous modes. An important part of this work was dedicated to realise the experimental tests. The prototype electromagnetic characteristics (flux, torque) are obtained by numerical calculation and are validated on the test bench. From these data, an analytical expression of the inductance is proposed for the development of a new PI current regulator with variable gains: the gain adaptation, with respect to the phase current and the rotor position, compensates the inductance variation and keeps a well defined dynamic of the current closed loop. Two methods to regulate the torque are proposed. The first one, based on the instantaneous value of the torque, reduces considerably the torque ripple but requires a high bandwidth current regulator. The second one, which deals with the torque mean value, is based on optimal parameters maps. For the same sizing of the system (power supply-machine-converter), the high speed performances are considerably increased due to the continuous conduction mode: the torque is increased to a level that allows keeping the maximal power constant over a wide speed range

Full textThis work deals with the study of permanent magnets actuators dedicated to aeronautical ventilation. The increase number of revolutions of the machine and the frequencies of commutation of the associated converter, constitutes a considerable source of losses generated on the level of the rotor in the conducting parts by the means of induced currents. These losses which deteriorate the total output of the actuator, must in this context, become a dominating element of dimensioning. A modeling being based on the analytical calculation of the magnetic field sitting in the air-gap and the conducting parts, is exploited within an experimental design, in order to highlight the structural parameters likely to influence favorably the losses by induced currents. Then, an alternative solution with the targeted application, relates to the definition of a new structure of actuator, the machine with double sailant and permanent magnets stator

Full textThis thesis focuses on the electromagnetic design of the wound salient pole rotor synchronous machine. This machine is used for the traction of electric vehicles made by Renault Group. To ensure comfort and customer satisfaction, electric motors designed for these vehicles must be silent. Thus, understanding and mastering the origins of magnetic noise and its reduction are essential in the pre-design phase of these motors. This research is being carried out within this scope. The purpose of this thesis is explained in the first part of this work, . Then, the origins of magnetic noise in electric motors are discussed. In addition, with a view to have a better understanding of noise and the sensitivity of the human ear to the sounds emitted, the fundamental concepts of acoustics are recalled. In order to choose the design approach of the motor, a state-of-the-art of electromagnetic design methods is presented. These different methods are evaluated on their ability to consider the doubly salient effect of the motor, the magnetic saturation and the shape of the rotor pole. Besides, the simplicity of the approach to be implemented is an additional characteristic. The first scientific contribution of this work is the analytical electromagnetic model of wound salient pole rotor synchronous machine using conformal mapping. This model made it possible to take into account the doubly salient effect of the machine for a vibroacoustic purpose. The radial and orthoradial magnetic stress components which cause the magnetic noise are evaluated and compared with those from finite elements simulations. The second scientific contribution is the consideration of magnetic saturation by the analytical model of the machine. This was achieved by introducing a step function of local magnetic saturation coefficients. These coefficients make it possible to reduce the flux density of the linear model in front of each stator tooth in order to correctly predict the flux density in saturated conditions of the machine. The last part of this work is dedicated to experimental testing. The vibroacoustic experimental analysis of the electric powertrain are presented. Measured acoustic pressure harmonics is compared to magnetic pressure harmonics calculated by the electromagnetic model and finite elements simulations. Different operating points of the machine are studied and the effect of the switching frequency on the main harmonics of magnetic and acoustic pressures is addressed
