Abstract: The main goal of this dissertation is to show the enhancement of the cross-section for the double Higgs production through pair annihilation by including effective interactions and through the non-perturbative Sommerfeld effect. Bounds to some Wilson coefficients were obtained from such enhancement, this in the scenarios of the future e+ e− -colliders (FCC-ee, ILC, CLIC). In order to achieve this, some computational tools were implemented: FeynRules, FeynArts, FormCalc, and LoopTools. It is also shown the enhancement of the double Higgs production in 2HDM and MSSM, discussing the general framework of these two models. In addition, it is studied the threshold behavior of the cross-section for the double Higgs production when a hidden sector couples to the Higgs boson, yielding resonances below the threshold energy due to non-perturbative effects. We study the Sommerfeld effect in the double Higgs production in the scenario of e+ e− -colliders. The enhancement is discussed as generated from a hidden sector coupled to the Higgs boson. Below and above threshold enhancements are presented. Such analysis is of importance in the ILC project, which will operate up to the threshold energy √s = 250 GeV. The results has been achieved by the use of computational tools like FeynArts, FormCalc, and LoopTools

Full textThe ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) experiment, a collaboration of more than 3,000 scientists worldwide, is conducting research at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It produced proton beam collisions at an energy in the center of mass of 7 TeV in 2011 and 8 TeV in 2012, period called Run1 and representing 20.3 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, then in 2015 and 2016 at 13 TeV for Run 2 with 36.1 fb-1. The ATLAS general purpose detector has a rich potential for accurate Standard Model (SM) measurements and the search for new physics phenomena. Two physics analyzes are presented here. The first is to search the Run 1 data for tri-bosons production, W ± W ± W∓, totally or partially decayed into leptons and to study abnormal quartic gauge coupling (aQGC). The number of observed events is consistent with the SM predictions. The observed upper limit at 95% CL on the W ± W ± W∓ SM cross section is 730 fb with an expected limit of 560 fb in the absence of W ± W ± W∓ production. The second analysis presented is the search for the doubly charged Higgs boson carried out on the Run 2 data. This boson is predicted by a model that extends the SM to allow massive neutrinos. This model introduces several Higgs bosons, one of which is the H ±±. The case where this latter decays in bosons W with a final state with two leptons of the same charge is more particularly studied. The estimated total background is in agreement with the data and no significant excess is observed. Upper limits are deduced and the model considered is excluded at 95% CL for MH ±± <220 GeV

Full textThe scientific work presented in this thesis is based on proton proton collision produced, at 13 TeV in the center of mass, created by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and recorded between 2015 and 2017 by the ATLAS detector. After a short introduction on the physics program at LHC, the first chapter gives a comprehensive overview of the theoretical context and motivation. Then a complete description of the ATLAS detector and more generally the experimental setup is given with a highlight on the different physics objects used in this research. The third chapter is dealing with a measure of the performances of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter, namely the study of the electron identification efficiencies using W decaying into electrons and neutrinos events. In the following chapters, the core of this thesis work, the search and study of the associated Higgs boson production with top quark pair, so-called ttH production, within the Standard Model schema and beyond is treated. The observation for ttH production with the ATLAS detector recently announced in 2018 represents a significant milestone for the High-Energy Physics field. In order to broaden the spectrum of this ttH analysis beyond the SM, this 4L channel final states was also studied in the context of the search for doubly charged Higgs boson decaying into W±W±, H±±→W±W±.In conclusions, future prospects in Standard Model (SM) as well as Beyond SM (BSM) scientific results that could be reached using the full Run1 and Run2 combined available statistics are given

Full textIn this dissertation a possible extension of the standard model of particle physics (SM) in the Higgs sector is investigated using top-quark pair production at the Large Hadron Collider as a probe. In particular, the so-called two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) is studied. The 2HDM introduces several spin-0 bosons (which are also called Higgs bosons) in addition to the SM Higgs boson. In this thesis these additional Higgs bosons are assumed to be heavy enough to decay into a top-antitop quark pair. Thus, the experimental signatures of these new particles can be studied through observables of top-quark pair production. To this end the resonant production of heavy neutral Higgs bosons and their decay into top-quark pairs in calculated up to next-to-leading order corrections in the QCD coupling constant retaining the full spin information of the top-antitop pair. This allows to analyse spin dependent observables which can be more sensitive to effects of heavy Higgs bosons than spin independent ones especially in the case of top-antitop spin correlations. The additional application of kinematical cuts on the phase space of top and antitop quarks can enhance the sensitivity further. In this thesis a method is presented that can be used to construct the spin correlation which is most sensitive to the effects of heavy Higgs bosons on top-quark pair production. Furthermore, it is shown that the next-to-leading order corrections are required to construct observables which entail robust predictions. The results for the next-to-leading order in the QCD coupling constant presented in this thesis were the first ones given for resonant heavy Higgs production and decay into top-quark pairs.

Full textOne of the main challenges of the current and future colliders TeVatron and LHC is the discovery of physics beyond the Standard Model. This goal may be accessible through precision measurements in the top quark sector. Deviations from theoretical predictions may bring to light the first indirect signs of new physics. The work exposed in this thesis deals with the production cross-section of top quark pairs via the strong interaction, within both D0 and ATLAS collaborations. Firstly, I've worked at D0 on the improvement of the reconstruction of soft electrons, in order to tag b-jets produced in top-antitop quarks events. Then I focused myself on the measurement of the top quark pair production cross-section with 420 pb-1 of D0 data. The measured cross-section is in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. In the ATLAS experiment, I tried to develop a procedure in ordrer to select top quark pair events, using the knowledge and the techniques from the D0 experiment. This work also highlighted the main systematic sources that can affect the sensitivity of the measurement. After one year of data taking at low luminosity, this preliminary analysis obtains a sensitivity at a few percent level, leading to a good discovery potential of new physic signs, like charged Higgs bosons. These new particles appear in non minimal standard models, and modify the phenomenology of top pair events. This new analysis has shown a good sensitivity for some regions of the parameter space
