Abstract:
The inclusion of orange pulp (OP) in pig diets may promote the circular economy, but drying procedures might influence its nutritional value and environmental impact. The purpose of this study was to determine the energy value and nutrient digestibility of dehydrated (DOP) and ensiled sun dried (ESDOP) orange pulp. The potential ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4) emissions derived from slurry were also measured. Digestible energies of 14.2 and 13.2 MJ/kg DM for DOP and ESDOP, respectively, were estimated by difference after a 500 g/kg substitution of a basal diet with OPs. A high fiber digestion efficiency was observed for both OPs. Pigs fed the basal diet showed a higher intake and a greater excretion of urine N than pigs fed with OP, but fecal N excretion did not differ among diets. A higher benzoic and hippuric acid content in urine was observed in OP than in basal diet. Altogether, these findings explained a lower pH in slurry of OP diets and a reduction of potential NH3 emissions. The biochemical CH4 potential also decreased, especially with ESDOP. Overall, both OP are relevant sources of energy for pig diets. Their inclusion in feeds generate favorable changes of slurry characteristics that reduce potential NH3 and CH4 emissions.

Abstract:
The building sector is one of the most critical branches of the economy influencing global warming today. Following the European Union’s Construction Products Regulation (CPR), the sustainable use of natural resources in construction is one of the seven basic buildings’ requirements. However, due to the lack of provisions in this regard, construction products are not yet subject to mandatory assessment and verification of the constancy of performance in this area. The paper presents the research results with the participation of 842 respondents who are investors, architects, contractors, and sellers of building materials. The analysis of their perceptions of issues related to the term sustainable development and knowledge of selected documents functioning in construction is presented. The share of people who correctly assigned the term sustainable development to equal treatment of environmental protection, economic development, and social development ranged between 52.5% and 65.7%. Knowledge of people associated with construction about the role of the declaration of performance (DoP) of construction products is high (from 73.9% to 99.4% correct answers). For Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), lower knowledge of this document’s role was noted, from 24.1% to 56.5% of correct answers. The obtained results indicate the need for further education.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this work is to explore electrical properties of an electrochemical sensor designed for the detection of malachite green (MG) present in an aqueous solution.Design/methodology/approachThe present sensor consists in the spatial coupling of a polymeric membrane and an ion-sensitive electrode (platinum electrode). The preparation of the polymeric membrane involves the incorporation of an ionophore (D2HPA), a polymer (polyvinylchloride [PVC]) and a plasticizer (dioctyl phthalate [DOP]). Several techniques have been used to characterize this sensor: the cyclic voltammetry, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the optical microscopy. The sensibility, the selectivity and the kinetic study of a modified platinum electrode have been evaluated by cyclic voltammetry.FindingsThe obtained results reveal the possibility of a linear relationship between the current of reduction peaks and MG concentration. A linear response was obtained in a wide-concentration range that stretches from 10−5to 10−13mol L−1, with a good correlation coefficient (0.976) and a good detection limit of 5.74 × 10−14mol L−1(a signal-to-noise ratio of 3). In addition, the voltammetric response of modified electrode can be enhanced by adding a layer of Nafion membrane. Under this optimal condition, a linear relationship was obtained, with a correlation coefficient of 0.986 and a detection limit of 1.92 × 10−18mol L−1.Originality/valueIn the present research, a convenient, inexpensive and reproducible method for the detection of MG was developed. The developed sensor is capable of competing against the conventional techniques in terms of speed, stability and economy.

Abstract:
Understanding the distribution and transportation of phosphorus is vital for the sustainable development of aquatic environmental protection and ecological security. The spatial–temporal distribution of phosphorus fractions in water–sediment phases in river systems and their relationships remain unclear in Southwest China. In this study, the spatial and temporal distribution of phosphorus fractions in water–sediment phases in the Tuojiang River, a primary tributary of the Yangtze River which plays important roles in the economy and ecology of the region, and the relationships among the different phosphorus fractions were analyzed. These fractions were soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP), and total particulate phosphorus (PP) fractions in water, and exchangeable phosphorus (Ex-P), organic phosphorus (Or-P), phosphorus bound by Fe oxides (Fe-P), authigenic phosphorus (Ca-P), detrital phosphorus (De-P), and refractory phosphorus (Res-P) fractions in sediment. The SPR and Fe-P were the dominant phosphorus fractions in the water and sediment, respectively. The TP content was greater in the lower reaches than in the middle and upper reaches. The average abundances of most phosphorus fractions in water–sediment phases showed significant seasonal variations. The Fe-P, Org-P, and TP in sediments were released to the water interface, resulting in the increase of phosphorus in the overlying water. Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that the physicochemical properties of water and sediment have a certain influence on the spatial–temporal distribution of the phosphorus fractions. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that the main phosphorus source was anthropogenic activities. These results provide primary data regarding phosphorus fractions and contribute to understanding phosphorus cycling and controlling phosphorus pollution in the Tuojiang River.

Abstract:
Background and Aim: Milk yield (MY) is one of the main factors that affect the economic profitability of dairy farms. Thus, increasing the MY per animal and decreasing the feed cost can lead to economic gains, so the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dry period length (DPL), days open (DO), and days in milk (DIM) on the productivity and profitability of dairy cow farms. Materials and Methods: Data used in this study were taken from 3095 lactation records of Friesian dairy cows of private and governmental sectors. The data were classified into 4 DPL categories: DPL1 <45 days; DPL2 45-60 days; DPL3 61-75 days, and DPL4 >75 days, 3 DO categories: DO1 ≤90 days; DO2 91-110 days and DO3 >111 days, and 8 DIM categories: DIM1 180-210 days; DIM2 211-240 days; DIM3 241-270 days; DIM4 271-300 days; DIM5 301-330 days; DIM6 331-360 days; DIM7 361-447 days; and DIM8 >447 days. Results: The average net profit (NP) was significantly different (p<0.05) among different categories of DPL, DO, and DIM in both production sectors, where high estimates of NP were calculated for DPL3 (30667.3 EGP), and it was the lowest for DPL1 (19690.6 EGP). DO2 had the highest NP (30754.1 EGP), while DO3 had the lowest NP (24875.5 EGP). DIM3 had the highest NP (29569.3 EGP), while DIM8 had the lowest NP (19528.4 EGP). Conclusion: Finally, we can conclude that DPL 61-75 days, DO 91-110 days, and DIM 241-270 days had the highest level of total MY, total return, and NP. Private dairy cow farms achieve a higher level of NP than governmental ones under subtropical Egyptian conditions.

Abstract:
Single-drop microextraction (SDME) coupled to capillary gas chromatography (GC) was established for the determination of four phthalate esters in wastewater, including dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) and butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP). The SDME parameters such as extractants, extracting time, stirring rate and immerging depth of needle point were studyed and optimized. The abovementioned phthalate esters were quantified by external standardization method using GC coupled with a flame ionization detector (FID). The linear regression calibration curves, detection limits (S/N=3) and the linear ranges of the method for determining each phthalate were determined, respectively. The concentrations of components abovementioned in a real wastewater sample, the average of the recoveries obtained in the spiked wastewater samples and the corresponding relative standard deviations were determined, respectively. The results showed the proposed method several attributes, friendly enviroment, economic and highly efficient pretreatment, less time, simplicity, sensitivity, accuracy and wide linear range and so on.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract An industry survey representing approximately 310 million (M) market weight pigs was conducted with 20 U.S. slaughter facilities over the calendars years of 2012 to 2015 to determine the incidence, seasonal patterns, and estimated economic impact of dead and non-ambulatory pigs. Each plant entered daily totals in a secure online database for the following variables: 1) pigs slaughtered, 2) dead on arrival (DOA; dead on the truck), 3) euthanized on arrival (EOA; non-ambulatory pig with an injury that required euthanasia), 4) dead in pen (DIP; died after unloading), and 5) non-ambulatory (pig unable to move or keep up with the rest of the group from unloading to stunning). Total dead pigs were calculated as DOA + EOA + DIP, and total losses were calculated as non-ambulatory + total dead. The economic impact was estimated based on the 4-yr weighted averages from USDA annual reports for market swine slaughtered (108,470,550 pigs), live market weight (126.9 kg), and live market price ($1.44/kg). The 4-yr weighted averages for total dead, non-ambulatory, and total losses were 0.26%, 0.63%, and 0.88%, respectively. Total dead consisted of 0.15% DOA, 0.05% EOA, and 0.05% DIP. The months with the highest rates of total dead were July (0.29%), August (0.32%), and September (0.30%), while the lowest incidence rates occurred in February (0.22%), March (0.22%), and April (0.22%). The months with the highest rates of non-ambulatory pigs were observed during the months of October (0.70%), November (0.71%), and December (0.70%), whereas the lowest rates of non-ambulatory pigs were observed during the months of April (0.57%), May (0.53%), and June (0.54%). The following assumptions were used in the economic analysis: 1) dead pigs received no value and 2) non-ambulatory pigs were discounted 30%. Based on these assumptions, the annual cost to the industry for dead and non-ambulatory pigs was estimated to be $52 M ($0.48 per pig marketed) and $37 M ($0.35 per pig marketed), respectively. Therefore, total losses represent approximately $89 M in economic losses or $0.83 per pig marketed. This is the first industry-wide survey on the incidence of transport losses in market weight pigs at U.S. slaughter facilities, and this information is important for establishing an industry baseline and benchmark for transport losses that can be used for measuring industry improvements.

Abstract:
The Taiwanese government forecasted economic growth to dip from 10.7% in 2010 to about four per cent in 2011 and 3.9% in 2012. Reasons for the dip were the earthquake on 11 March 2011 in Japan and the weak demand from Europe and US markets, a situation which is expected to affect the Taiwan economy in 2012. Nonetheless, cross-strait economic relations are likely to progress further after Kuomintang's victory in the 2012 presidential election.

Abstract:
Dried orange pulp (DOP) can be incorporated into ruminant diets, but no reports have considered this strategy during the entire lactation period in goats. Two experiments were performed using lactating Payoya goats. In experiment 1, to study the effect, over 180 days, of DOP on milk yield and composition, blood metabolites and economic values, 44 primiparous goats were allocated into three groups: control diet (concentrate plus lucerne) and DOP40 and DOP80 diets, in which DOP replaced 40% and 80%, respectively, of the cereals. Nutrient digestibility and rumen fermentation were also studied (experiment 2). The DOP diets did not affect milk yield and composition. DOP triggered lower intake and digestibility of ether extract and crude protein. Ruminal fermentation was unaffected by DOP, except for a decrease in butyrate for DOP80. The energy balance was unaltered by diet while the balance and retention of nitrogen decreased. Regarding plasma biochemistry, DOP supplementation caused changes that could indicate an improvement in hepatic function and reduced muscular damage and oxidative muscular stress. Moreover, DOP80 provided a profit increase of EUR 3.27/goat. In conclusion, the partial replacement of cereals by DOP is a profitable and healthy nutritional strategy in dairy goats and is suitable for the entire lactation period without compromising productivity.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to assess the effectiveness of the role played by the Department of Posts (DoP) in financial inclusion of the unorganized sector. It examines, by studying the issues in disbursement of Social Security Pensions (SSPs) in a region, the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities that the DoP has and the threats it could face. The empirical study is confined to only one initiative of DoP, that is, SSP disbursements in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. The primary data was collected during the transition period when DoP was into SSP disbursements in urban as well as rural areas of Visakhapatnam on an experimental basis (February–April, 2015). Altogether eight hypotheses were tested for significance, based on the data collected through observation, interviews, survey and literature review. The sample for data collection consisted of DoP employees (from frontline to top management), representatives of local governing bodies in villages and SSP beneficiaries. The SWOT analysis of DoP helped in identifying issues in disbursements and perceptions (of both beneficiaries and DoP employees). The results show that DoP has been successful in achieving the first level of financial inclusion and has to work towards achieving the second level through collaborative partnerships. Several suggestions and recommendations have been made for both DoP and policy-makers, which would help DoP in overcoming the challenges that it faces in financial inclusion. It is suggested that by looking at the bigger picture beyond disbursements, that is, financial inclusion of the bottom-of-the-pyramid customers, DoP will be able to emerge as a major player in the economic growth of the country.

Abstract:
Regardless of the type of liquid membrane (LM) (Bulk Liquid Membranes (BLM), Supported Liquid Membranes (SLM) or Emulsion Liquid Membranes (ELM)), transport and separation of chemical species are conditioned by the operational (OP) and constructive design parameters (DP) of the permeation module. In the present study, the pH of the aqueous source phase (SP) and receiving phase (RP) of the proposed membrane system were selected as operational parameters. The mode of contacting the phases was chosen as the convective transport generator. The experiments used BLM-type membranes with spheres in free rotation as film contact elements of the aqueous phases with the membrane. The target chemical species were selected in the range of phenol derivatives (PD), 4–nitrophenol (NP), 2,4–dichlorophenol (DCP) and 2,4–dinitrophenol (DNP), all being substances of technical-economic and environmental interest. Due to their acid character, they allow the evaluation of the influence of pH as a determining operational parameter of transport and separation through a membrane consisting of n–octanol or n–decanol (n–AlcM). The comparative study performed for the transport of 4–nitrophenol (NP) showed that the module based on spheres (Ms) was more performant than the one with phase dispersion under the form of droplets (Md). The sphere material influenced the transport of 4–nitrophenol (NP). The transport module with glass spheres (Gl) was superior to the one using copper spheres (Cu), but especially with the one with steel spheres (St). In all the studied cases, the sphere-based module (Ms) had superior transport results compared to the module with droplets (Md). The extraction efficiency (EE) and the transport of 2,4–dichlorophenol (DCP) and 2,4–dinitrophenol (DNP), studied in the module with glass spheres, showed that the two phenolic derivatives could be separated by adjusting the pH of the source phase. At the acidic pH of the source phase (pH = 2), the two derivatives were extracted with good results (EE > 90%), while for pH values ranging from 4 to 6, they could be separated, with DCP having doubled separation efficiency compared to DNP. At a pH of 8 in the source phase, the extraction efficiency halved for both phenolic compounds.

Abstract The article intends to understand key features of the economic policy trajectory followed by the Workers’ Party governments in Brazil. The period was characterized by advances in social conditions, but the governments failed to advance key social reforms, reduce high interest rates or pursue a coherent industrial policy. The policies adopted led to a deep economic crisis, a key component of the subsequent political impasse. The article adopts a historical-institutionalist approach, establishing a dialogue with theories that deal with the role of international constraints, the institutionalization of the party system, economic ideas and the influence of interest groups. The main contribution is to provide an interpretation which, by integrating economic, political and institutional factors, significantly adds to the understanding of key economic policy decisions.

Abstract:
This paper assesses the Dominican Republic’s willingness to pay (WTP) for a conservation, restoration, and sustainable development program for the Bahoruco-Jaragua-Enriquillo Biosphere Reserve (RBJBE). Created in 2002, the RBJBE covers approximately 4858 km2, of which approximately 900 km2 correspond to the sea surface. With three core conservation zones, the RBJBE constitutes a complex space with a history of conflicts rooted in exploiting natural resources and social and economic issues. At the same time, it is a biodiversity hotspot of global importance. We present a Contingent Valuation Method to estimate the WTP for a conservation and restoration program called PROBIOSFERA. The non-parametric and parametric estimates of the WTP are DOP 165.00 (≈USD 2.94) and DOP 181.88 (≈USD 3.25), respectively. The socioeconomic variables that positively affect the WTP are income level, educational level, and age. The ecosystem services that are statistically related to WTP are the provisioning and supporting services. Regardless of the monetary valuation scenarios defined, the estimated annual monetized aggregated welfare associated with the RBJBE for Dominican society is DOP 7.2 billion (≈USD 128.1 million).

Abstract:
GDP growth picked up in the second quarter and has remained close to trend over the course of the summer after an initial dip in the first quarter of the year. Preliminary estimates of GDP suggest the economy expanded by 0.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2003. The recovery of growth from the relative weakness observed throughout most of 2001 and 2002 has arrived somewhat earlier than we thought at the time of our July forecast. GDP growth was revised upwards from 0.1 and 0.3 per cent per quarter in the first two quarters of the year to 0.2 and 0.6 per cent per quarter. Chart 1 shows our forecast of quarterly GDP growth to the end of 2004. We expect growth to remain close to trend over this period. For this year as a whole our central projection shows the economy expanding by 2.0 per cent this year and by 2.6 and 2.7 per cent per annum in 2004 and 2005.

The internationalisation of organisations and economic processes are commonplace. As occupational psychologists the implications of this needs to be incorporated into much of our work, whether it is considering the availability of translated versions when making decisions regarding assessment instruments or bearing in mind cultural norms in coaching a manager. The professional organisation of occupational psychologists is also increasingly international and it is one of the roles of the International Liaison Group of the DOP to monitor what is happening both in Europe and around the world for DOP members. This is a brief round-up of some things that have happened or are in progress that you may find it useful to know.

Abstract:
Of the total number of municipalities in the northern region of the State of Goiás, part of them have their own revenues below requirements, if current conditions are maintained, they tend to be incorporated into neighboring municipalities from 2025 onwards in compliance with PEC 188/2019.Would there be an alternative for municipal development and sustainability without the necessary population increase? In this sense, the purpose was to identify the economic and social weaknesses that characterize the municipalities in the northern region and to create a “Dependency Matrix”. The methodology consisted of consulting databases of federal, state and municipal agencies and programs. The results demonstrate the low level of economic activity, own revenues, high dependence on external revenues, high payroll on civil clerk, exposing themselves to the dictates of the Fiscal Responsibility Law (LRF) and high dependence on the Income Transfer Programs of the Federal Government such as the Bolsa Família Program (PBF) and the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC). The Dependency Matrix assists the municipal manager in restraining the alleged migratory flight, the loss of economic relevance, as well as economic, environmental and social sustainability. Keywords: Dependency Matrix. Economy. Sustainability.

Abstract:
Background:Deferoxamine (DFO) or Deferiprone (DFP) or Deferasirox (DFX) monotherapy and DFO and DFP combination therapy were four commonly implemented now chelation regimens for the iron overloaded of β-thalassemia major. This systematic review aims to determine the cost-effectiveness of four chelation regimens and provide evidence for the rational use of chelation regimens for β-thalassemia major therapy in clinic. Methods:A systematic literature search in PubMed, EMBASE (Ovid), CENTRAL (Cochrane library), HTAD (Cochrane library), NHS EED (Cochrane library), CBM, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang was conducted in April 2018. In addition, a manual search was performed. Two researchers, working independently, selected the papers, extracted the data and assessed the methodological quality of the included papers. Each included paper was evaluated using a checklist developed by Drummond et al. Results:The initial number of records was 968, and eight papers met the final eligibility criteria. All the included eight papers were cost-utility analyses. And the methodological quality of these papers was good. Nineteen studies were included in eight papers. Nine studies of DFX versus DFO had contradictory results. Out of the nineteen studies, three studies of DFX versus DFP established that using DFP was cost-effective. Three studies of DFP versus DFO established that using DFP was cost-effective. One study of DFP and DFO combination therapy versus DFO found that using DFO was cost-effective. One study of DFP and DFO combination therapy versus DFP found that using DFP was cost-effective. And there were two studies of DFP and DFO combination therapy versus DFX, but we cannot be sure which one of two chelation regimens was cost-effective. Conclusion:In brief, DFP is the best choice, followed by DFO or DFX, when an iron chelator is to be used alone for β-thalassemia major therapy. All studies that compared DFO and DFP combination therapy with DFO (or DFP or DFX) monotherapy established that the combination therapy with DFO and DFP was not cost-effective. However, due to the low number of related studies, more extensive, high-quality research is required for further analysis and confirmation of our findings. Moreover, the cost effectiveness is not an absolute issue when in different countries(regions) the results are opposite for other countries(regions). The specific region had a substantial influence on the economy of drugs. Key words: β-thalassemia major, Deferoxamine, Deferiprone, Deferasirox, cost-effectiveness, systematic review

Abstract:
The UK economy has now enjoyed four consecutive quarters of expansion. Indeed GDP growth reached 1.2 per cent in the second quarter of this year, the fastest rate of growth in over a decade. The National Institute's estimate of monthly GDP suggests that the economy continued to expand in the third quarter of this year, but at a more modest pace of 0.5 per cent (see figure 1). Such a slowdown should not have come as a surprise. Persistently strong growth is unlikely in an economy where household balance sheets are still undergoing repair, funding channels to business remain impaired and the public sector is embarking on a significant programme of fiscal consolidation. However, we continue to think the chances of negative output growth in 2011 are about one in five and hence a double dip recession is unlikely.

Abstract:
The economic provisions of the agreement between Israel and the PLO are set out in the Protocol on Economic Relations, signed in Paris on April 29th 1994. Concluding nearly six months of negotiations, the Protocol spells out the arrangements regulating economic relations between the Palestinian Authority, established under the Oslo Declaration of Principles (DOP), and Israel. Its eleven articles deal with the foreign trade, monetary and fiscal regimes of the areas under this jurisdiction, and with the movement of labour and goods between them and Israel. The Protocol also treats some more specific matters, such as the licensing of tour operators, access to tourist sites and compulsory motor vehicle insurance.

Abstract:
Tittle: Dynamic of Fisheries Sector’s Role in the Indonesian Economy: Input-Output Analysis 1990-2005.This study was focused on analyzing the dynamic of fisheries sector's role in the Indonesian economy, especially on economic output, household income and labor absorbsion. Secondary data used in this study were obtained from Input-Output (I-O) Table of 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 published by the Central Bureau of Statistics Indonesia, and later on analyzed through I-O approach and its multiplier coefficients result. Results showed that in general, the role of the fisheries sectors in Indonesian economy has tended to increase– be it before. During the transition and after the estabilishment of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) era. Specifically, the role of secondary fisheries sub sector was more dominant than the primary fisheries sub sector in the formation of economy's output. As for the labor absorbsion, the role of primary fisheries sub sector was more dominant than secondary fisheries sub sector, especially before the estabilishment of MMAF; however, this dominance went a vice versa during the transition and after the estabilishment of MMAF.

Abstract:
AbstractDraft animal power (DAP) has been identified as an environmentally friendly technology that is based on renewable energy and encompasses integration of livestock and crop production systems. Draft animal technology provides farmers with a possibility to cheaply access and use manure from the draft animals and farm power needed to apply renewable practices for land intensification. Compared to motorized mechanization, DAP is viewed as an appropriate and affordable technology especially for small-scale farmers in developing countries who cannot afford the expensive fuel-powered tractor mechanization. However, it is apparent that there is no consensus among researchers on how it affects crop yields, profit and production efficiency when applied in farm operations. This study addressed the question of whether using DAP increases economic efficiency of smallholder maize producers in central Kenya. Results of the study are derived from a sample of 80 farmers, 57% of whom used draft animals while 43% used hand hoes in carrying farm operations. In the study area, draft animals are almost exclusively used for land preparation and planting, with very few farmers applying them in the consecutive operations such as weeding. A profit function was estimated to test the hypothesis of equal economic efficiency between ‘DAP’ and ‘hoe’ farms. The results showed that farmers who used DAP obtained higher yields and operated at a higher economic efficiency compared to those who used hand hoes. The analysis underscores the viability of DAP in increasing profitability of small-scale farms; however, other aspects of the technology, such as affordability of the whole DAP package, availability of appropriate implements and skills of using the technology, must be taken into account when promoting adoption of DAP technology.
