Abstract:
As linguistic systems, Latin and Arabic have interacted for centuries. The article at hand aims at analysing the status of the Latin language in the Arab and Arabic-Islamic sphere. Starting out from the observation that Latin-Christian and Arabic-Islamic scholarship dedicated a very different degree of attention to the study of the respective ‘other’ language in the course of the centuries, the article traces the impact of Latin on an emerging Arabic language in Antiquity, provides an overview on the various references to Latin found in works of Arabic-Islamic scholarship produced in the medieval and modern periods, and provides an exhaustive list of Arabic translations of Latin texts. A description of the role played by Latin in the Arabic-speaking world of our times is followed by a discussion of several hypotheses that try to explain why Latin was rarely studied systematically in the Arabic-Islamic sphere before the twentieth century. This article is in English.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Modal verbs are known to be a difficult area in both teaching and translation. In translation modals seem to pose certain problems due to their notoriety and ambiguity. This paper examines some of the problems encountered when translating modals from English into Arabic (and vice versa) with special reference to deontic modality and proceeds to shed light on the role ambiguity and decontextualization have in adding to the difficulty of translation. The deontic modals in English and Arabic are examined through examples selected for the purpose of the study in an endeavor to reveal the basic reasons behind having such difficulty when treating modals in English and Arabic translation. Therefore, some techniques to ease the difficulty deontic modals (and other types of modality) pose are suggested; and in particular when dealing with two different languages such as English and Arabic. The study concludes by emphasizing the role of backgrounds in arriving at interpretations of the meanings of modals and hence have them correctly rendered in the light of the meaning intended.

Le but ultime étant d’y remédier. ABSTRACT. Written expression is a complex activity that occupies an important place in the teaching / learning of French as a foreign language in Algeria. Teaching French to Arabic speakers leads to contacts between Arabic mother tongue and French as a foreign language. These contacts generate errors that influence student’s writings. This article aims to identify, analyze and understand interferential errors in the written productions of Algerian students. The ultimate goal is to fix it. To do this, an analysis of errors will be applied to a corpus of 30 copies of written productions made by students of the 3rd year secondary as well as a contrastive analysis of the systems of the two languages in question: Arabic and French. The analysis of the collected data revealed that this problem could be caused by 3 factors: the scriptural practices of the pupils notably the difficulty to implement the stages of the process of textual production, the confrontations of the two linguistic systems Arabic and French also to teaching practices, such as evaluation, that do not target interferential errors. Keywords: error, evaluation, foreign language, interference, language contact, mother tongue, written production.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This paper starts by discussing the importance of word order in translation. As an example, the passive-active relation is given to illustrate the importance of word order. It is shown that the word order in this case is an integral part of the meaning in the wider sense of meaning. This relation, moreover, is discussed in Arabic and English which do not exhibit parallel behavior. The mismatches between the two languages necessitate structural adjustments in translation if natural equivalence is to be achieved. It is noticed that Arabic tends to use less passive than English and, furthermore, does not have a natural method of expressing the agent in a passive sentence. However, an active construction (namely, the topic-comment construction) allows for a word order in which the effect of the English passive word order is achieved without having to use the passive in Arabic. Therefore, an English x is done by  is rendered as x,  does it in Arabic where it is a resumptive pronoun referring to x . Here, the x-y order is maintained and the passive is avoided in Arabic where it is rather unnatural. The agent is expressed as the subject of the comment which is an active sentence that naturally allows the agent to be explicitly stated. In this position, it follows the patient which is the desired order that reflect the original English order. A standard procedure for translating English passives into Arabic is proposed as a conclusion to the present study.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Analizzando l’autobiografia "La terrazza proibita.

Abstract:
The dissertation investigates Arab-Muslim migrant women’s experiences and meanings of parenting in Italy, from a pedagogical perspective. The study originates from observations of a selection of places of encounter and exchange between women, as well as the collection of life stories of mothers of Moroccan or Egyptian origin living in Milan. The aim is to explore their experiences as migrant women-mothers and their representations of parenting and education. The increase in stabilization of migration projects in communities of Arab origin, and the resulting increasing number of women with children in Italian educational contexts (Giacomello et al., 2018a, 2018b; Simina Duma et al., 2018a), together with the spread of prejudices, Islamophobic feelings and discriminatory episodes, especially against Arab-Muslim women (Dessi, 2016; Liepyte & McAloney-Kocaman, 2015; Lunaria, 2019; Perry, 2014), show the urgency to examine parenting in connection with the experience of migration for these groups of women from a pedagogical perspective. From a theoretical point of view, the dissertation is seen in the context of contemporary educational studies on the construction of migrant parenthood (E. Balsamo et al., 2002; Favaro & Colombo, 1993; Iavarone et al., 2015; Portera, 2004; Silva, 2006, 2008; Webb, 2001). It also expands on previous educational research analyzing migration through the gender prism (Cambi et al., 2003a; Campani, 2000; Donato et al., 2006; Favaro & Tognetti Bordogna, 1991; Morokvasic, 1984b; Pessar, 1984; Ulivieri, 2017; Vianello, 2013, 2014). Finally, it develops some indications of method emerging from the tradition of research in family education, specifically concerning parenting support (Catarsi, 2006; Dusi, 2007; Formenti, 2000, 2008; Gopnik, 2017; Milani, 2001, 2009, 2018, Sità, 2005, 2007). In light of these references, field research aimed to: investigate the experiences and meanings of parenting for the women-mothers involved in the research; delve into its formative dimension by determining risk factors and resources in their stories; deduce guiding criteria to re-interpret the construct of parenting and parenting support programs and to develop methodological strategies to approach otherness. Methodologically, the study is based on the tradition of qualitative research in education (Bove, 2009c; Cardano, 2003; Caronia, 1997, 2011; Denzin & Lincoln, 2005; Lumbelli, 1980, 1995; Mantovani, 1998b; Mortari & Ghirotto, 2019). In particular, it positions itself in the wake of recent empirical research in education, adopting ethnographic methodologies (Bove, 2009c, 2019; Caronia, 2018; Caronia & Vassallo, 2015; Gobbo, 2004b, 2011; Leoncini, 2011; Sclavi, 1989; Tobin, 2016; Tobin et al., 2000, 2011), along with others exploring the narrative-biographical dimension (Cambi, 2002; D’Ignazi, 2008, 2016, Demetrio, 1996, 2004; Ferrarotti, 1981; Formenti, 2006; Mantovani, 1998a; Merrill & West, 2012). This research highlights some relevant emerging topics, such as: gender issues between the country of origin and migration; being a mother amongst cultural meanings, migration and cultural transmission; the social support network; the relationship with educational institutions; cultural, religious, and multiple identities. In the area of parenting support, the pedagogical discussion of research findings suggests the adoption of a resources and skills-based approach and the use of methods, and tools derived from ethnography.

Abstract:

The contribution of oil in the economic growth of arab countries is relatively considerable, but the actual condition of sales and reserves of hydrocarbon of certain countries in the O. A. P. E. C. C appears to be reaching an unquestionable high level. The need for a rapid distribution of oil revenues through accelerated industrialization justifies itself in point of fact concerning this new oil deal. The object of thesis is the study of the dynamics of oil reserves in relation to that of economic activity. In this research we have attempted to deal with the following three themes. - the evolution of different sources of energy - the industrial valorization of hydrocarbons - the 'large-scale' economic results of oil expropriation and subsequent oil stratagies. These are the three points which have been approached in this thesis

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

The impulse for the recent transformations in the Arab world came from the Maghreb. Research on the region has been on the rise since, yet much remains to be done when it comes to interdisciplinary comparative research. The Maghreb is a heterogeneous region that deserves thorough investigation. This volume focuses on Entanglements as a cross-field and cross-lingual concept to generate a new approach to the region and its inner interdependencies as well as exchanges with other regions. Eminent researchers conceptualize Entanglements through the description of various thematic fields and actors in motion, addressing culture, politics, social affairs, and economics.

AbstractIn Palestine, cancer care has been considered a national initiative and one of the main pillars of the health system. The Palestinian authority bears the cost of treating cancer patients. Cancer treatment is provided at no cost to all Palestinian patients through public and private hospitals. Currently, cancer care is focused on diagnosis and treatment while other elements, such as palliative care and quality of life, are left behind. Despite the Israeli occupation, efforts to enhance the level of cancer care within the Palestinian territories are ongoing, and additional hard work must be done. To enhance cancer care in Palestine, collaboration at the national and international levels is vital.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of this chapter is to provide an update on cancer epidemiology in Somalia as well as local and international responses to the challenges. After the collapse of the central government of Somalia in 1991, the country has plunged into civil war. Since then, Somalia has not had any governmental or non-governmental cancer care services. Currently, Somalia doesn’t have a single cancer center. The country has neither national cancer registries nor national cancer institutes. According to a study done by a Somali cancer specialist at the University of Somalia-Teaching Hospital, and Turkish doctors at Erdogan Hospital, published in seminars in oncology in 2017, the most frequent cancers in Somalia are esophageal, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, liver, breast, skin, thyroid, brain, bone, colorectal, and soft tissue. Somalia is recovering from a devastating civil war that continued for 30 years. This war has destroyed all the health facilities in the country, since then the country has not been able to reestablish the healthcare system. This absence of healthcare system and lack of human and financial resources are the biggest challenges of cancer care in the country. There is only one facility in the entire country where cancer care is given. The future of cancer care in Somalia is bright since more doctors are planning to specialize in cancer and more investors are planning to invest privately in the healthcare sector, especially cancer care. Also, as the Somali government is getting stronger, it is hoped the government will play a bigger role in cancer care in Somalia in the coming years.

Abstract:

Abstract:
By the early seventh century a combination of Persian invasions and, ultimately, Arab conquests removed the Roman Empire from the Middle East and North Africa. Although the emperor Heraclius sparked a brief but dramatic Roman resurgence in the early 630s, these traumatic losses pushed Romans to reintroduce the rhetoric of decline and renewal. Instead of focusing on the traditional, pagan Roman past as Romans had done in earlier centuries, their seventh- and eighth-century counterparts thought about how the empire’s Christian religious practices had fallen away from the ideals that had once made Rome a powerful Christian empire. One result was the Iconoclastic controversy, an argument between Romans who embraced the role of icons in Christian worship and others who wanted to suppress their use. Both sides claimed that the religious practices for which their opponents advocated had broken with the traditions that had once made the empire strong.

Abstract:
Geographical and racial differences in the incidence of thrcmbo-embolisn could be related to basic dissimilaritiesin the haemostatic system in different ethnic groups. However reliable comparative population studies in haemostatic parameters is lacking. The large expatriate ccmnunity in Saudi Arabia offers such a chance.Subjects tested were all healthy blood donors (aged 20-50 years) and were classified on the basis of ethnic origininto three categories (1) Arabs n=750, (2) Westerns (Americans and Europeans) n=400, and (3) S.E. Asians (Filipinos) n=570. The measurements done included PT, PTT, TT, Reptilase time, Plasma fibrinogen, AT III, Plasminogen, F.VIII:C, FX, α-2 Antiplasmin and Platelet aggregation in response to ADP (20.0, 2.0, 1.0, 0.5 & 0.25 uM), Collagen, Arachidonic acid, Adrenaline and Ristocetin (1.5, 1.2 & 1.0 mg/ml).There were no significant ethnic differences in the measured plasmatic clotting tests. This contrasts the finding of many smaller studies. Besides no significant ethnic differences were noted in platelet aggregation response to high doses of ADP (20 uM) or Ristocetin (1.5 mg/ml) and to Collagen. However, 45% of the S.E. Asians displayed abnormally inhibited responses to Adrenaline when compared to Arabs (34%) and Westerns (35.2%). Asians also displayed more inhibited responses to lower doses of ADP (2.0 & 1.0 uM) . On the other hand, S.E. Asians showed the lowest incidence of inhibited Arachidonic acid responses (9%) when compared to Arabs (24%) and Westerns (26%) . Similar racial differences were noted in response to low doses of Ristocetin (1.2 & 1.0 mg%) where Arabs and Asians showed high incidence of abnormally reduced responses (26-28%) when compared to Westerns (15%). No evidence of enhanced aggregation could be detected in Westerns. Changes of climate and/or dietary habits could be important factors influencing the haemostatic system in such a way that reduces ethnic dissimilarities.

Abstract:
Shatt al-Arab River is the only international navigational river in Iraq, extending from the city of Qurna to its mouth in the Arabian Gulf at the city of Al-Fao within the governorate of Basrah for a length of approximately 204 km. Its width ranges from 400 m to 2000 m and its depth ranges from 8 m to 20 m. Since many years Shatt al-Arab River suffer from scouring at the right side (Iraqi side), that is led to displace the borders between Iraq and Iran (Al- Thalweg Line) towards Iraqi territory and thus led to loss of Iraqi land to Iran. Reducing flow velocity along the Iraqi side can led to reducing or preventing erosion in the right bank. Increasing the riverbed roughness will reduce the velocity of flow and then reducing the erosion. This principle was adopted in this study. In this research, a reach of Shatt Al-Arab with a length of 2.5 km located at 34 km northern Fao city was selected to represent the study area. A small area at the upstream of the reach mentioned earlier (700 m length) was selected and called strip in order to change the bed roughness for three different heights. This scenario was simulated with full scale (prototype scale) to investigate the effect of increasing the bed roughness on the velocity pattern at river cross sections and along the reach. The simulation done by using 3D numerical modeling CFD solver (ANSYS fluent 19). For each allocated area, as increasing the roughness height (ks), the longitudinal velocity (v) decreased at the right side by about 10% to 70% and increased by about 5% to 260% at left side along the river reach.

The fear of fossil fuels depletion as well as the constantly increasing pollution rates motivated most of today’s engineers and researchers towards focusing on renewable energies and their applications. Fuel Cells are one of the green technologies that are being explored extensively around the world. The work of this paper was done on the 3kW ElectraGen™ fuel cell system under study for domestic use in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Several experiments were conducted at different operating points and relatively high ambient temperatures. The experimental I/V characteristics of the system are matched by identifying 13 different modeling parameters using basic fitting. The obtained model is then further optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The resulting model is validated experimentally and was found to highly resemble the system’s I/V characteristics yielding less than 1.5 V H∞ norm of the error.

Abstract:
The study is aimed at unveiling the discrepancies in educational cultures, more specifically of creating a dichotomy between the teacher-centered cultures, specific for the Eastern European countries and the learner-centered cultures, of Western European countries, in distance learning virtual communities. Starting from a defintion of culture, as it was stated by Geert Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions that he developed and applied along the years in the analysis of differing cultures, with a specific application on the most recent sixth dimention and with a view to Edward Hall's perspective on high context vs. low context cultures, I will try to understand the traps in which learners are stuck when involving in online distance learning courses, in ESP. The study is based on a survey, developed as part of a doctoral study, by Rita Zaltsman, from the International Center of Modern Education in Prague, Czech Republic. The results of this study will be used in understanding if the same cultural paradigm is valid for the Romanian students enrolled in ESP distance learning courses, as in the case of their Western colleagues. The findings will help us develop a platform of ESP online courses which will perfectly suit the needs and wants of the target audience. Besides the demographic data, which are extremely important in evaluating a society, the following cultural issued need to be considered: content of material, power of multimedia, formal versus informal style of communication, style of written communication, as well as Web design. Cultural sensitivity can help us develop an integrated course in ESP, that will later on be adapted to other categories of audience: Arab or Chinese students, eager to enroll with Romanian universities. The same process can be applied when developing an online platform for Romanian as a Foreign Language, aimed at Erasmus students and international students enrolled in Romanian universities. It is very important to understand the role of e-learning in crossing boundaries, in enabling learners to involve in different forms of coomunication. This can be done through a better understanding of the classical teaching and learning methods, what needs to be changed and what caters the needs of the modern distance learner, in the special case of foreign language acquisition.

Abstract:
Abstract Heat receiver design is an essential portion of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants, particularly within CSP systems that are particle based. Particle based CSP promises higher operating temperatures and more cost-effective thermal energy storage than existing systems. Two general types of Particle Heat Receivers (PHR) are under development, variations of the free-falling curtain concept being developed by Sandia National Labs and an obstructed flow concept being developed by King Saud University (KSU) and Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT)[1, 2]. The obstructed flow design utilizes specifically engineered obstacles placed in the flow path of the particles to remove momentum and kinetic energy and promote lateral and depth-wise mixing. This design is named the discrete structure or DS-PHR. This paper focuses on development and design work that has been done with the existing DS-PHR developed by GIT and KSU. Previous iterations of the DS-PHR have utilized obstruction materials that include simple metal meshes, and ceramic formed into an inverted V-shapes or chevrons. However, these previous designs have some shortfalls. The metallic mesh design has structural integrity issues under intense radiation, inherent in a DS-PHR. The ceramic chevrons have a disadvantageously thick leading edge, which may intercept too much radiation and overheat. Current development has continued with improvements to remedy the issues of the previous design work. Experience, modeling, and testing have shown that a cavity receiver is preferred to reduce heat and particle loss in the system. Recent work has been devoted to developing a Discrete Structure Refractory Particle Heat Receiver (DS-RPHR) suitable for cavity installation working with a north-located field. The simplest suitable configuration is 5 flat ceramic plates, or absorber panels, arranged in an arc, forming a 15° angle of inclination, to improve particle retention in the system. To increase particle residence time, quartz rods are placed onto the back plane of the DS-PHR, in a hexagonal configuration. These serve as the momentum scrubbing obstructions as mentioned above. The performance of this design will be discussed in the following paper. This design has been extensively modeled using NREL’s Soltrace to evaluate thermal and optical performance. Modeling has shown high thermal efficiency in the design, as well as promising heat flux profiles across the receiver. Currently at KSU, a 300 kW-thermal testing facility has been constructed and used for high temperature testing. The final proposed 6.6 MW-thermal design, called the pre-commercial demonstration, will be built at a site owned and operated by Saudi Electric Company, in Waad Al-Shamal, 20 kilometers east of Tuarif, Saudi Arabi.

Abstract:
The sun and beach tourist megadevelopments have been stimulated by the Inter-American Bank of Development (BID) as projects of strategy of tourist development, in Mexico there are born the Integrally planned Centers (CIP's) to give urban order, decentralizing big tourist investments principally of origin foreigners. They are identified before the tourist promotion by the investment of inputs and technology. The emplacements have grown and destine spaces for the tourist temporary and permanent. This type stand out for being representations of exclusivity, privacy and safety, demonstrating interlock in the series of tourist sets constructed to integrate the tourist megadevelopment, limiting an access that indicates the beginning of the montage reality - fiction, shaping the montage of fiction, that they lead to constructing a reality from the imaginary one. The happened out of the montage will be considered to be a reality, on there having be established a series of page lay-outs that will make the new reality, the reality - fiction, between visual representations of fantasy, of sounds and overcoat of ideas for transmitting, since motivation is that the tourist guides prove for the tourists. The representations are based on images of landscapes, persons, cities and symbolic emblems. Of the chunk of images made and rescued of the natural or real environment, a plot relation was conforming across the page lay-out to the suitable sequence of each one of the scenes formed by the imaginary one, to join and to channel the montages for the fulfillment of the representation in a movie. Of the most out-standing examples they are the creations from the imaginary one in the United Arab Emirates represented in the hotels as tower hilton baynunah, jumeirah Beach burj al-arab, hotel w, hotel apearon island y hotel eta, which expose services as purchases of luxury, centers spa with exclusive facilities for the sport and the free time, equipped rooms with the last technology. The colors and the forms are distinguished for standing out before the Arabic culture, but it is important to indicate that each of these megadevelopments will mark with this series of montages, which will allow to arrange the series of chunks of images made before the imagined fantasy. The megadevelopments differ for creating tourist scenes from the imaginary one, emphasizing the interlock across the search of the safety concept, with a marked interest to shape new communities, likewise elements like them I access they are guarded by safety personnel that was indicating the welcome to the tourist, Without knowing that it will be guided and monitored by secret video cameras in the mass of the building, also safety elements are distinguished for the mobility and accessibility to the set, emphasizing airway, navally ó terrestrial, the tour to the interior being marked under an stairs of descending level to beach level, there was showing each of the tourist scenes mounted to indicate the tour to the tourist to the interior of the set.

Abstract:
Greenhouses are known to be the modern outlook for the agronomical industry in terms of high-end yield especially in the regions where climatic conditions are not stable like in the Middle East, Europe, and United States. Crop optimization is one of the major challenges facing the farmers and the controlled production centers can dictate this difficulty in the upcoming market. Greenhouses are considered as the high -tech production centers which can support the food industry to have a green revolution through the mass production of the vegetables and spices. Properly designed commercial greenhouses can increase the yield by minimizing the operational cost especially in terms of reducing the energy consumption. In order to have a properly designed greenhouse, the selection or up gradation of the shade structures can play a vital role. Conventional greenhouses are made of polycarbonate sheets and in some cases the polyhouses by using simple polyethylene sheets. In this scenario, the main drawbacks were the energy consumption, operational expenses and the effectiveness of the indoor temperature control. Custom designed shades based on the crop requirements can provide high production rate by reducing the energy consumption. The detailed microstructural analysis in conjunction with the photosynthesis demand can provide a better selection of the shade-net or curtains. Greenhouse shade structure can be upgraded using the motorized specially designed nets or by using thermal-reflective screens. This up gradation can provide four stage advantages. In stage one this can decrease the 50% of heat energy and which will save the HVAC operational cost. During the stage, two better temperature control during the day and night will provide a good environment to provide proper PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation)[5] for photosynthesis, in the wavelength range of 400 to 700 nanometer. Third and fourth stages are the protection from the frost as well heat stress during the different climatic conditions. In the present market condition, the commercial greenhouses are being built in large scale by neglecting the energy saving options in shade structures. The commercial greenhouses using the upgraded shade structures can save the operational cost by 25 to 30%. Selection of this shade-nets or curtains can be done using the detailed microstructural analysis of the material. Shade-nets/curtains can be controlled manually, mechanically or can be automated in large-scale greenhouses. Flowering dates in the plants can be accelerated using the shading materials and delayed by the use of control treatment, which coincides with the results obtained in the previous studies [1]. This has proven with high land experiments [2]. Greenhouse shade nets are used in order to protect crops and plants from adverse weather conditions, animals and pests, besides providing suitable conditions for plant growth. The essential performance properties required for greenhouse shade nets are the resistance to solar radiation and weathering. The intensity of the Photo Synthetically Active Radiation (PAR) directly influences plant growth. Other nonvisible radiations are ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR) and far infrared (FIR)[16]. Polypropylene and polyester are more resistant to UV radiation than polyethylene, which is resistant to radiations in the visible region. The use of greenhouse shade nets in outdoor conditions also requires them to be resistant to abrasion[3]. The objective of the present work is to examine the effectiveness of the properly selected shade-net/curtain in commercial greenhouses in terms of high yield energy savings. This study was conducted to compare the traditional polycarbonate sheet with the innovation of properly designed shade curtain made-up from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fiber reinforced material discover the best shading method for plant growth in an ideal energy conservation scenario. The study was conducted in the two identical greenhouses (planted with lettuce crop) located in Al Khawaneej farm in the Emirate of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Yield versus the energy consumption has been observed in a period of time and obtained the reduction in energy consummation of almost 20 to 30 %.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To identify how much and what is already known about health-seeking behavior (HSB) among the Arab patients who experienced infertility. Our purpose is to map and describe the studies that have been done and what they assessed concerning HSB among patients who experienced infertility. This includes the studies which address the factors affecting HSB. This review is conducted to display gaps in HSB literature and to inform a systematic review in the Arab countries. Condition being studied: The review will study research articles which addressed the HSB among couples, men, or women suffering from infertility. We adopted the definition of HSB by Ward et al. (1997) which is the actions undertaken by the patients who perceive themselves as infertile for the purpose to conceive and get children (Ward, Mertens, & Thomas, 1997). This could be any action ranged from neglect to seeking advanced infertility care. We will study the operational definition of HSB in each study, HSB model, rate of seeking medical care and type of care sought, other sources of help sought, and factors influencing HSB. In addition, we will describe how HSB was studied by defining the characteristics of the retrieved studies including design, setting, participants, and sample size, and infertility operational definition.
