Resumen En el presente texto, se analizará la representación de las diversas maneras de luchar por el bien de la res publica en Los españoles en Flandes, vinculándolas con el uso de la metáfora del matrimonio moral y político entre el rey y la república en España, a comienzos del reino de Felipe III. Se argüirá que, mediante la conducta ideal de Juan de Austria, quién restablece el ‘matrimonio’ de la Corona con Flandes, roto por los rebeldes, Lope representa un modelo de una perfecta privanza y de una relación justa entre el rey –o su lugarteniente– y su república, posiblemente para reaccionar a tendencias ‘republicanas’ en su país.

Abstract:
This study examines Cervantes’ subtle, ironic satire in Don Quijote Part II, aimed at three works of Lope de Vega: an auto, an entremés, and a play highly praised in Avellaneda's Don Quijote. Lope's entremés is satirized in the episode of Maese Pedro's “Retablo de Melisendra” (II, 26), in which the narrating trujamán is actually Cervantes’ mouthpiece. My hypothesis is that three authors fathered the apocryphal Quijote printed in the Barcelona printing shop that Don Quijote and Sancho visited (II, 63). The puppet show reveals their identity by allusion and symbolic metaphor. They were Jerónimo de Pasamonte, Lope de Vega, and the man who paid for the edition: either the Conde de Lemos, or the publisher Sebastián de Cormellas himself.

Abstract:
In this article we summarize in what consists the presence of the Spanish Literature of the Baroque in Serbian Literature and Culture. We mention the three most important authors who have left the deepest mark (Cervantes, Lope and Calderón) and draw a list of their works ―translated, adapted, studied and / or represented in the Serbian stages. We also refer to the influence exercised by these authors in our Literature from the beginning of their reception (XVIII century) to the present day (Don Quixote in the first place, in the narrative, in children's literature, in the language and culture in general). We show that the dramas and comedies of Lope and Calderón have a history of premieres in our country that last almost 150 years. Don Quixote, Don Juan and Segismundo have become myths and are now part of the Serbian culture.

RESUMEN: La novena epístola de La Filomena, dedicada a don Juan de Arguijo, posee una particular importancia dentro del corpus que integra no sólo por la posición destacada que ocupa como última pieza del epistolario escrita por Lope, sino también porque en ella se condensan una serie de sentidos poéticos y metapoéticos que atraviesan el volumen misceláneo del que forma parte. El presente artículo se propone examinar algunos procedimientos mediante los cuales la estructura de esta composición entra en diálogo con la materia que trata, contribuyendo a construir la imagen de poeta culto que Lope está bogando por forjarse durante esta época. ABSTRACT: The epistle dedicated to Juan de Arguijo in Lope´s La Filomena has a particular importance not only because it is the last epistle of the volumen written by Lope, but also because it summarizes several poetic and metapoetic meanings. This article aims to explore some structural and theme procedures whereby the text builds the cultivated poet image Lope was looking forward to create for himself.

Abstract:
El mejor amigo el muerto (co-written by Luis Belmonte Bermúdez, Francisco de Rojas, and Pedro Calderón de la Barca) and Don Juan de Castro (by Lope de Vega) both follow the same basic plot; they tell the story of Don Juan, a Spaniard, who is shipwrecked in England. Each play then follows the folktale of the Grateful Dead: a dead man’s burial rituals are first neglected by those who should perform them and then carried out by Don Juan, a stranger, thereby indebting him to the living man. The dead man’s ghost returns to save Don Juan’s life and help him find love and rise to power in England. Multiple meetings of worlds occur in these plays. The first is the encounter of the living with the dead; the second is the confrontation between the Spanish and the English. Importantly, caring contact across one border (that of living and dead) is what allows the success of the other connection (of the English and Spanish). This paper examines the interplay between these two dichotomous contacts to understand this story’s attitudes towards borders, crossings, and the necessity of compassionate contact between oppositional worlds.

Abstract:
This chapter examines how the comedias indianas of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain, plays set in the Americas, engage with the Hispanic and ancient Roman epic traditions. The study focuses in particular on the popular cycle of poems inspired by the ongoing conflicts between settlers and indigenous Mapuche on the Chilean frontier of Arauco through an analysis of three early plays, Lope de Vega’s Arauco domado, Ricardo de Turia’s La bellígera española, and the multi-authored Algunas hazañas de las muchas de don García Hurtado de Mendoza. It is argued that the challenge of translating the epics into stage performance resulted in dramatic innovation. Reflecting the many voices and perspectives adopted by the epics concerning the controversial colonization of Chile, and incorporating significant echoes of Virgil and Lucan, the plays eclectically juxtapose competing traditions and accounts. Foregrounding and commenting on the performance of violence, they ostentatiously avoid dramatic and generic closure.
