Abstract:
The great reforms of Alexander II contributed to the development of a network of state and non-state bank-ing institutions. Non-state credit organizations such as commercial banks not only lent to different sectors of the domestic economy, but also brought financial dividends to the holders of their shares. Commercial banks played the role of intermediaries between persons with free capital and citizens of the Russian Empire who needed additional financial resources. The activities of private bank institutions were aimed at supporting the people of the Russian Empire by providing various banking services. The author explores the activities of commercial banks in the context of the development of capitalist relations in the reformed Russia. The activity of lending to the Don population by central and local commercial banks is considered separately. On the basis of statistical materials, it describes the operations of the Azov-Don commercial bank. The organizational structure of the Azov-Don commercial bank is investigated. Its activity is considered as financial discount, issue of loans and reception of deposits.

Abstract:
The article investigates foundations of work and functions of the Bukhara branch of the Azov-Don commercial bank. In soviet historiography banks were considered as colonialism tools (both Western and Russian). On the basis of archive data the author proves that finance institutions of the Russian Empire took into account the local specificity and stimulated production of export-oriented goods. The author uses inter-bank correspondence, annual reports of the branch director and materials of the Bukhara branch audit. For the first time active and passive bank transactions were researched, expenses and incomes of the bank were analyzed and personnel of the bank was studied. The author, in contrast to soviet and post-soviet researchers thinks that banks were not monopolists in economy of the Middle East. The Azov-Don bank had got a broad network of branches (4 branches) in the Middle East region. It tried to take in hand the export of cotton and fruit but could not become a monopolist in economic life of Turkestan. The principle cause of ‘failure’ according to the author was the adjustment of the bank to real economic relations in the Turkestan Governorship-General and khanates. Modernization of Central Asia economy, according to banks implied financing of export crops and intermediary between the metropolitan country and periphery. ‘Colonial’ periphery seemed to be an appealing field for investment and super-profit, but speculative nature of Turkestan economy stopped banks’ development. As a result economic modernization of the Middle East slowed down and opened the way to the soviet experiment.

Abstract:
The defeat in the Crimean War, the devastated post-war national economy and the recession in the economy cast great doubt on the future of the Russian Empire as a European power. Overcoming of the technological and military-technical lag of Russia from the leading European powers, the Tzarist government saw in the development of the banking system as well. Modernization in the financial sector contributed to the emergence of the State Bank, which carried out various accounting and loan operations to support different categories of the population. In the Don region lending to sectors of the local economy was carried out by the Rostov office of the State Bank. The economic specificity of the Don Cossack Army Region caused lending primarily to representatives of the peasant population, traders and companies selling grain crops. The author examines the functioning of commercial banks in the framework of the development of capitalist relations in the Don Cossack Army Region and Russia as a whole. Separately, he outlines the influence of state banks on the formation of domestic mortgage lending in the post-reform period. The activity of small credit institutions and inter-credit societies to the accounting of bills, the issuance of loans and the reception, and storage of deposits is considered. The influence of the Rostov City Public Bank on the Don economy is investigated.

Abstract:
Nowadays there are 72 sites of the Neolithic Middle-Don Culture. Ceramic vessels are ornamented mostly using triangular pricks. These settlements are located on the banks of the rivers Voronezh and Don in their lower reaches. Not far from the town of Dobroe, a concentration of Neolithic settlements was found. Three of them contained Early Neolithic pottery of the Middle-Don Culture (6th millennium BC). For the first time on the settlement Dobroe 9 a cultural layer was found in situ. Due to the discovery of the assemblage of pottery and stone and bone tools, new excavations allowed us to characterise the material culture of the ancient population of the Upper Don in a new way.

This study aims to assess the soundness of sharia commercial banks before and after being registere don the Indonesian stock exchange using the Risk-Based Bank Rating (RBBR) method which is stipulated in the OJK regulation No.8/POJK.03/2014 concerning the assessment of the soundness level of sharia commercial banks and sharia businessunits. The object of this research are sharia commercial banks registered on the Indonesian stock exchange (IDX). The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling with the criteria of sharia commercial banks which was conducting an initial public offering in 2018. Two samples were obtained for this research, namely BRIS and BTPNS. The analytical techniques in this study were descriptive quantitative using four RBBR factors namely risk profile (NPF and FDR), GCG, profitability (NOM and ROA), andcapital (CAR). The resultsofthis study on the soundness of the bank before and after being listed on the IDX did not indicate a difference in the health rating of the banks both BRIS and BTPNS. the results of a comparison of the performance of BRIS and BTPNS seen from the four RBBR factors showed tha tBTPNS's performance was better than BRIS's performance.

The article considers the state of banking business in the 12 largest Russian cities (after Moscow and St. Petersburg) in the beginning of 2006. The analysis is based on statistical data that depicts activity of resident as well as non-resident credit corporations in every city. Our research shows that there are two leading cities, namely Yekaterinburg and Kazan, with different strategies: "strong banks - open market" in the first case and "strong banks - partly closed market" in the second one. Other most successful banking centers (Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara) develop mainly in line with "the Yekaterinburg model", not that of Kazan.

This article traces the development of the EMS VCS3 synthesiser from the inception of its precursor, the Don Banks Music Box, through its prototype to its commercial release. The nature of the design team and their technical and aesthetic choices are also discussed. The VCS3 is significant in that it was the first commercial European synthesiser and the team that created it – Tristram Cary, David Cockerell and Peter Zinovieff – were key figures in the development of British electronic music. This detailed study of the genesis of the VCS3 and some of the factors that influenced its design touches on many technical and historiographical strands that may be examined in more depth by future scholars.

Abstract:
Income diversification is one of the Bank's strategies to earn income. Non-Interest Income is the alternative to absorb income other than Net Interest Income. However, the level of Non-Interest Income of Commercial Banks in Indonesia is still at an average of 20%. Based on this problem, the study aimed to analyze the effect of Income Diversification, Non-Interest Income, and determination of Non-Interest Income which is Fee Commissions Income And Trading Income on the performance of Commercial Banks in Indonesia listed in the Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) period of 2014 – 2018. The condition of Commercial Bank’s stakeholders in Indonesia also changes because of raised number of mergers and acquisition that occur in Indonesian banks. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the state-owned ownership and foreign ownership in moderating the effect of Income Diversification and Non-Interest Income on Commercial Banks’ performance in Indonesia listed in Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) period of 2014-2018. The results of this study indicate that Income Diversification, Non-Interest Income, and Fee Commissions Income have positive and significant effect on the Bank's performance. Banks with state-owned ownership has a negative and significant influence in moderating the effect of Income Diversification and Non-Interest Income on ROA. Meanwhile, Banks with foreign ownership has a positive and significant effect on the Bank’s performance.

Abstract:
Introduction. The Russian-Turkish war of 1806–1812 was the longest military conflict between Russia and Turkey. In the hope to force the Turks to peace, Russian troops crossed the Danube several times and fought for key fortresses on its banks. One of the battles on the right Bank of the Danube in 1809 was won practically by the Don Cossacks alone. In this battle Russian troops were led by such famous military leaders as Bagration, Miloradovich, Platov. After this battle Miloradovich and Platov were promoted to “full generals” (general in chief). Methods and materials. This battle is also interesting because the state archive of Rostov region has a very detailed collection of documents about it. Of all the documents relating to this war, the greatest number refers to the battle of September 4, 1809, because after it Don ataman Platov received his highest rank. The purpose of this study is to identify reasons for such an unusual victory. Analysis and results. The author investigates the course of the battle in detail using archival materials. The study shows that Russian forces were twice as superior to Turkish ones; during the battle, the command made a number of mistakes, which did not allow to completely surround the Turkish troops. High awards received by the command for this battle did not quite correspond to the level of success. The Russian commanders had friends at court and this partly affected the awards.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to identify the role of the internal auditors in achieving the social responsibility of the commercial banks operating in Jordan as a result of its affectivity on the sustainable development of the society. The descriptive statistics were used to describe and respond to the two study samples, the ANOVA test and the T-test were used as well at the significance level (0.05) to examine the hypothesis of the study. This study found out that the internal auditors are doing well in verifying the integrity of commercial practices in Jordan regarding the human rights and business behavior on one hand, and don’t leave a finger with regard to the safety of environmental and social practices on the other hand. One of the important study recommendations is the necessity of urging the internal auditors to play a pivotal role in monitoring commercial banks related to environment and social relationships by holding training courses and programs in addition to conducting further studies on social responsibility and sustainable development.

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of this study is to explain what the cardinal factor is when clients choose their marginbank by comparing demographic variables and how their choice can be used in segmentation. Method: To reach results for the analysis a positivistic approach and a deductive projection have been used. The research is based on a survey studying people in Hässleholm and Ängelholm. The collected data has been analyzed using crosstabs. Theoretical perspective: This study is based on previous research within the area that have been used to identify factors that can explain the aim of this research. Conclusion: The analysis resulted in a conclusion showing that when private clients choose their margin bank great offers and bonuschecks matters. It also showed that banks, based on this paper, should use differentiated marketing when segmenting their customers.

Abstract:
The recent financial crisis has emphasized the need for improved supervision of the actors on the financial market. One way to improve supervision is through better understanding of business models. The aim with this thesis is to find similarities in business models for Swedish credit institutions and for Swedish branches of foreign banks. More specific this study aims to find groups of companies, in this paper called clusters, with similar business models and identify existing business models in the banking market. The data used in this study are financial statements reported to the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority for the years 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2013. In order to compare the companies’ data, ratios from the income statements and balance sheets have been created. To reduce the amount of data and arrive at a smaller set of uncorrelated variables, principal component analysis was used. The method used for finding the clusters was a hierarchical agglomerative clustering method called Ward’s method. The number of clusters was determined using Calinski-Harabasz index. Bootstrapping was used in order to test cluster stability. This study shows that patterns in the Swedish banking sector exist and that it is possible to find clusters of companies with similar business models. Swedish branches of foreign banks have been treated separately from Swedish credit institutions. For Swedish credit institutions a division into six clusters was found to be most suitable and in order to describe the business model the clusters are named: Universal banks, Savings banks, Leasing companies, Non-deposit funded credit institutions, Service-focused credit institutions and Other credit institutions. The most stable clusters, that are the clusters with highest similarity, are Savings banks and Leasing companies. The cluster with lowest stability is Universal banks and it could be considered as a pattern in the data rather than a cluster. For Swedish branches of foreign banks, three clusters were found to be most suitable and the clusters are named: Banks, Service-focused credit institutions and Other credit institutions. These clusters are stable.

Abstract:
The transition to fee-based advisory is underway in Europe. The regulatory bodies consider this the preferred alternative in contrast to the commission-based agent approach. However, the same state of euphoria cannot be found among clients. Up until now, banking clients in Germany have been cautious, modest and reluctant. This prompts questions as to what could be the cause of such behaviour. Possible explanations can be found in a conjoint-analysis with client clustering. It can be shown that the behaviour of German clients in banking is divided. A small group of agile, well-informed individuals with high incomes prefers fee-based advisory services (6% of all clients). Meanwhile, the large majority of clients tend to prioritise the commission-based advisory service. Interestingly, this group is characterized by an astonishingly realistic picture of themselves. The clients consider themselves not properly informed, lacking experience, inflexible and not open for innovation. They seek salvation by granting unconditional trust to their banks. These clients cannot assess or judge if a new type of advisory method will offer any kind of advantage. If politics wants to promote the fee-based model it has to assure absolutely water-proof solutions, otherwise a resulting loss of confidence in case of misuse will be inevitable. Taking a more liberal approach, politics could leave several avenues open and instead sanction infringements of accredited trust

Abstract:

Abstract:
The numerous cases of bank crisis that have taken place since the beginning of the 80's enhanced the appearance of various theoretical end empirical studies attempting to explain this phenomenon. This dissertation intends to contribute to the development of this subject: firstly, by combining the lessons on bank crisis derived from equilibrium models with microeconomic foundations, with the approach of crisis centered in its macroeconomics and institutional determinants; secondly, by exploring not only the bank system as a whole, but having also consideration the several institutions that constitute and compose the homogeneity of its texture; finnally, by analyzing the contagium problem within a new perspective, i.e. observing it not as one more element to be taken into account, but as a result of bank systems interdependency that should not be ignored, especially with the opening, integration and liberalization of financial systems. The empirical results that were obtained seem to confirm the thsis already revealed in previous studies that the microeconomic and institutional framework of bank systems is an essential factor for its stability. The main contribution of this dissertation, however, lies in the statistical significance obtained for the indicators concerning the instituions microeconomic characteristics as well as for the contagium effects, strengthening the idea that the bank system is a complex entity extremely dependent on its neighbours and on the health and stability of its institutions.

Abstract:

During the autumn of 2007 I carried out an investigation within the bank and finance Sector. The aim of the investigation was to see how informal aspects could be understood in relation to equality within Bank AB? The main question was: Which are the obstacles and opportunities for equality within Bank AB? To answer the main question I asked the following questions to the material: Are there any gender related different within the organization? How are men and women represented within the internal magazine? Which are the conceptions related to sex/gender within the organization? The investigation is based on a survey, the internal magazine was investigated and finally interviews took place. Throughout the investigation I used organization theory in a gender perspective. With the gender organization theory I examined concepts as structures, leadership, symbolism and changes associated with equality. I also used an organization theory based on changing system/non changing system related to equality work. The analysis shows that obstacles related to equality are: masculinity is the norm and therefore is seen as the prototype, focus is on the imbalance between the sexes, direct and indirect discrimination do exist, a risk with internal recruitment are that positions may re-established and equality is placed on the management and staff department. The opportunities related to equality are: improve from management, quantitative aims can improve and contribute for the minority, equality model that has a management position and finally questioning of existing norms and values in the organization.

AbstractThis chapter describes how money is created. Many people mistakenly believe that money can only be created by governments or central banks. But money today is mostly – but not exclusively – created by commercial banks. This chapter describes the ways in which this is done, it outlines the forces that drive and constrain this means of money creation, and it discusses the role of monetary policy.

Full text
Abstract:
Asset management Companies, starting from 2006, have a critical role in the banking sector of Turkey in terms of liquidating Non-performing loans into cash. Sale of bad debts enable banks to transfer receivables to asset management firms at a substantial discount and obtain liquidity so that they have more robust financials and their ability to focus on their core businesses which may increase productivity. The objective of this study is to determine the immediate impact of the announcement of recent sales on stock prices of banks. This study provides evidence that 22 statistically significant positive announcements versus 21 negative announcements out of 69 deals broken down by bank. Results indicate that particular deals are overpriced resulting in stock price increases and some are underpriced resulting in losses in the market. It can be inferred that information regarding with the structure and asset quality of deals are accessible.

In ASME Turbo Expo 2014: Turbine Technical Conference and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/gt2014-25522.

Full text
Abstract:
The trailing edge sections of gas turbine vanes and blades are generally subjected to extremely high heat loads due to the combined effects of high external accelerating Mach numbers and gas temperatures. In order to maintain the metal temperatures of these trailing edges to a level, which fulfills the mechanical integrity of the parts, highly efficient cooling of the trailing edges is required without increasing the coolant consumption, as the latter has a detrimental effect on the overall gas turbine performance. In this paper the characteristics of the heat transfer and pressure drop of two novel integrated pin bank configurations were investigated. These include a pin bank with conical pins and a pin bank consisting of cylindrical pins and intersecting broken turbulators. As baseline case, a pin bank with cylindrical pins was studied as well. All investigations were done in a converging channel in order to be consistent with the real part. The heat transfer and pressure drop of all the pin banks were investigated initially with the use of numerical predictions and subsequently in a scaled experimental wind tunnel. The experimental study was conducted for a range of operational Reynolds numbers. The TLC (thermochromic liquid crystal) method was used to measure the detailed heat transfer coefficients in scaled Perspex models representing the various pin bank configurations. Pressure taps were located at several positions within the test sections. Both local and average heat transfer coefficients and pressure loss coefficients were determined. The measured and predicted results showed that the local internal heat transfer coefficient increases in the flow direction. This was due to the flow acceleration in the converging channel. Furthermore, both the broken ribs and the conical pin banks resulted in higher heat transfer coefficients compared with the baseline cylindrical pins. The conical pins produced the highest average internal heat transfer coefficients in contrast to the pins with the broken ribs, though this was also associated with a higher pressure drop.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to present the results of the Reactor Containment Fan Cooler (RCFC) system piping load calculations. These calculations are based on piping loads calculated using the EPRI methodology (Refs. 1 & 2) and RELAP5 (Ref. 3) to simulate the hydraulic behavior of the system. The RELAP5 generated loads were compared to loads calculated using the EPRI GL 96-06 methodology. This evaluation was based on a pressurized water reactor’s RCFC coils thermal hydraulic behavior during a Loss of Offsite Power (LOOP) and a loss of coolant accident (LOCA). The RCFC consist of two banks of service water and chill water coils. There are 5 SX and 5 chill water coils per bank. Therefore, there are 4 RCFC units in the containment with 2 banks of coils per RCFC. Two Service water pumps provide coolant for the 4 RCFC units (8 banks total, 2 banks per RCFC unit and 2 RCFC units per pump). Following a LOOP/LOCA condition, the RCFC fans would coast down and upon being reenergized, would shift to low-speed operation. The fan coast down is anticipated to occur very rapidly due to the closure of the exhaust damper as a result of LOCA pressurization effects. The service water flow would also coast down and be restarted in approximately 43 seconds after the initiation of the event. The service water would drain from the RCFC coils during the pump shutdown and once the pumps restart, water is quickly forced into the RCFC coils causing hydraulic loading on the piping. Because of this scenario and the potential for over stressing the piping, an evaluation was performed by the utility using RELAP5 to assess the piping loads. Subsequent to the hydraulic loads being analyzed using RELAP5, EPRI through GL 96-06 provided another methodology to assess loads on the RCFC piping system. This paper presents the results of using the EPRI methodology and RELAP5 to perform thermal hydraulic load calculations and compares them.

Abstract:
Abstract: Risk management is an indispensable part of the financial market and banking sector and consists of the identification of various forms of risk to which banking operations are exposed. Accelerated and constant market development, globalization and internationalization of the market and new technologies bring new challenges but also risks. Risk management in today's dynamic environment brings with it numerous obstacles but also poses new challenges and opportunities for companies, which implies the establishment of appropriate corporate management and risk culture. Through an adequate and appropriate risk management system tasks and responsibilities of the supervisory and management body and senior management, the system of internal controls, control functions, organizational chart and tasks of individual organizational parts and functions are defined. The banking sector and banking operations are exposed to many risks where several risks occur simultaneously, there is no risk that is only one or placement that carries only one risk, while an additional problem that the bank faces is the quantification of risk. Identifying, measuring, assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting on risks implies defining a risk management strategy which defines the basic guidelines for medium-term risk assumption and the development of risk management and control systems. The risk management strategy is aimed at defining a set of basic standards for sustainable and effective management and control of all identified risks to which the bank is or could be exposed in its operations, taking into account the quality of implementation and compliance with business plans and objectives. The aim of this paper is to present the potential risks that arise in regular banking operations and to show banks risk management system in order to increase the quality of bank operations. Upravo kroz adekvatan i odgovarajući sustav upravljanja rizicima definiraju se uloge, zadaci i odgovornost nadzornog i upravljačkog tijela i višeg rukovodstva, sustav unutarnjih kontrola, kontrolne funkcije, organizacijska shema i poslovi pojedinih organizacijskih dijelova i funkcija.

Abstract:
The dynamic rod worth measurement method, which is used widely for PWR with square geometry lattices, is applied on WWER type reactor with hexagonal geometry lattices. RTNP code is developed to calculate the static spatial factors (SSF) and the dynamic spatial factors (DSF) through simulating the 3D space-time neutron dynamics and the response of excore detector during the measurement process. The improved quasi-static method is used for temporal discretization. The time-dependent shape equation is then transferred to a fixed source problem through backward Euler formula. And Multi-group Monte Carlo method is used to solve this fixed source problem. Four tests on Tianwan nuclear power plant (NPP) units 1&2 have been done since 2015. The measured results agree well with the predicted values. It takes about half hour per bank and 5 hours to measure all banks worth. The conventional boron dilution was used for rod worth measurement of Tianwan NPP units 1&2. It took at least 2 hours per bank and produced lots of boron wastes. The boron dilution has been replaced with this method for Tianwan NPP units 1&2.

Due to the complex and close interaction of banks with other economic units, any trouble in banking sector might have repercussion on the whole economy which makes the market structure and competition in banking sector as a cynosure. Business world is facing gradually increasing competition. It seems that the existence of firms depends on the power and the advantage of their competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competition structure and the market conditions of Turkish banking system. despite the existence of a number of studies about competition in banking sector, there is still a lack of the studies which has been done with Lerner's Index. Due to this fact, Lerner’s Indeks is used in this study. Bank level determinants of Lerner Index is analysed using Panel Data Regression Method and was reached to factors effecting competitive behavior in Turkish Banking Sector.

Abstract:
Up to World War II the Bank of Portugal (BoP) was far from possessing the features normally associated with a central bank. It was still a commercial bank, although one that had acquired some central bank functions. The World War II period was decisive to change this ambiguity. The change was mostly caused by an unusually large influx of international means of payment (gold and foreign exchange) as a consequence of Portuguese neutrality during the war, which allowed the BoP to transform its balance sheet structure: the BoP became the institution centralising commercial banks’ reserves. However, all of this happened during a very disturbing period for the BoP. The BoP had been reformed to function as the manager of the escudo in the gold-exchange standard. But just a few months after the reform, the gold-exchange standard collapsed. The BoP adapted quickly to the new environment of discretion, Government interference, and nationalism. It did it so, however, in a relatively original way: it followed the trend but kept at the same time certain features of a central bank still committed to gold standard principles. This was visible during both the World War II and Post-War periods.

Abstract:
Buffers for systemically important institutions (SIIs) were designed to mitigate the risks posed by these large and complex banks. With a panel data model for a sample of listed European banks, we demonstrate that capital requirements for SIIs effectively reduce the perceived systemic risk of these institutions, which we proxy with the SRISK indicator in Brownlees and Engle (2017). We also study the impact of the adjustment mechanisms that banks use to comply with SII buffer requirements and their contribution to systemic risk. The results show that banks mainly respond to higher SII buffers by increasing their equity, as intended by the regulators. Once we control for the options SIIs employ to fulfil these requirements and SII characteristics (e.g. total asset size), we find a residual effect of having SII status. This result suggests that being an SII provides a positive signal to markets by further decreasing its contribution to systemic risk.
