Abstract:
The modeling of complex risk situations imposes the existence of multiple ways to represent the risk and compare the risk situations between them. In probabilistic models, risk is described by random variables and risk situations are compared by stochastic dominance. In possibilistic or credibilistic models, risk is represented by fuzzy variables. This paper concerns three indicators of dominance associated with fuzzy variables. This allows the definition of three notions of fuzzy dominance: dominance in possibility, dominance in necessity and dominance in credibility. These three types of dominance are possibilistic and credibilistic versions of stochastic dominance. Each type offers a modality of ranking risk situations modeled by fuzzy variables. In the paper some properties of the three indicators of dominance are proved and relations between the three types of fuzzy dominance are established. For triangular fuzzy numbers formulas for the computation of these indicators are obtained. The paper also contains a contribution on a theory of risk aversion in the context of credibility theory. Using the credibilistic expected utility a notion of risk premium is defined as a measure of risk aversion of an agent in front of a risk situation described by a fuzzy variable and an approximate calculation formula of this indicator is proved.

Abstract:
The ranking of multi-metric scientific achievements is a challenging task. For example, the scientific ranking of researchers utilizes two major types of indicators; namely, number of publications and citations. In fact, they focus on how to select proper indicators, considering only one indicator or combination of them. The majority of ranking methods combine several indicators, but these methods are faced with a challenging concern—the assignment of suitable/optimal weights to the targeted indicators. Pareto optimality is defined as a measure of efficiency in the multi-objective optimization which seeks the optimal solutions by considering multiple criteria/objectives simultaneously. The performance of the basic Pareto dominance depth ranking strategy decreases by increasing the number of criteria (generally speaking, when it is more than three criteria). In this paper, a new, modified Pareto dominance depth ranking strategy is proposed which uses some dominance metrics obtained from the basic Pareto dominance depth ranking and some sorted statistical metrics to rank the scientific achievements. It attempts to find the clusters of compared data by using all of indicators simultaneously. Furthermore, we apply the proposed method to address the multi-source ranking resolution problem which is very common these days; for example, there are several world-wide institutions which rank the world’s universities every year, but their rankings are not consistent. As our case studies, the proposed method was used to rank several scientific datasets (i.e., researchers, universities, and countries) for proof of concept.

Abstract:
The literature suggests that schizophrenics exhibit reduced or reversed cerebral lateral dominance relative to normal control subjects. An hypothesis which predicted reduced or reversed cerebral laterality for schizophrenics was tested on 60 young, familially right-handed males, with 20 men in each of the following three groups: schizophrenic inpatients, nonschizophrenic psychiatric inpatient controls, and normal controls. The subjects were administered a battery of seven measures of cerebral laterality. The application of multivariate statistical techniques showed groups did not differ significantly in the degree or the direction of their cerebral lateral dominance. Also there were no significant correlations between the measures of laterality. The findings suggest that cerebral lateral dominance is not necessarily altered concomitantly with psychopathology but rather that it is a complex phenomenon which may not be reliably determined on the basis of simple behavioral characteristics.

Abstract:
Dominance is referred to the level of influence that a person has in a conversation. Dominance is an important research area in social psychology, but the problem of its automatic estimation is a very recent topic in the contexts of social and wearable computing. In this paper, we focus on the dominance detection of visual cues. We estimate the correlation among observers by categorizing the dominant people in a set of face-to-face conversations. Different dominance indicators from gestural communication are defined, manually annotated, and compared to the observers’ opinion. Moreover, these indicators are automatically extracted from video sequences and learnt by using binary classifiers. Results from the three analyses showed a high correlation and allows the categorization of dominant people in public discussion video sequences.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper presents five tests based on behavioural and other animal-centred observations concerning dairy goat welfare. An emotional reactivity test (n = 40) classified the animals into different groups according to their behaviour in response to fear-eliciting stimuli, and identified anxious animals. Movement parameters and behaviour, as well as quantitative (number of cries) and qualitative (pitch, intensity, length) sound parameters were recorded. A dominance test (n = 35) based on antagonistic reactions resulted in three hierarchical groups (subordinate, n = 9; intermediate, n = 6; and dominant, n = 20). A test performed in the milking parlour (n = 108) showed that the order of passage was strongly preserved and linked to limb pathology and dominance index. Finally, a lameness test (12.5% were lame) and a standing up test (8.5% had problems getting up) showed that these two parameters were highly correlated. After some simplifications, these tests could form a goat welfare evaluation method.

Abstract:
The results of research of high-speed, speed-strength abilities and special anaerobic endurance in highly skilled male and female athletes are presented. It is established, that the indices of physical working capacity depend on the type of vegetative regulation of the heart rhythm. Athletes (male and women), who have the same level of skill with moderate dominance of central mechanisms vegetative regulation of a cordial rhythm, significantly higher speed-strength indicators. In particular, for men, with moderate dominance of central mechanisms vegetative regulation of a cordial rhythm (1 type), during the work in the anaerobic mode, gather higher speed, which on 4,1% is statistically higher in comparison with athletes with moderate domination of the autonomous mechanism of regulation of a cordial rhythm (3 type). At the same time, the time of achievement of frequency of rotation of pedals of a veloergometer, equal 70% of the maximum size, they on 3% (р0,05) less. The women, with the 1 type of a regulation of a cordial rhythm, indicators of absolute, average and relative power (р0,05) on 1,6; 2,6 and 8,9 higher. With an increase in the duration of anaerobic work, the indices of special endurance are statistically reliably higher in athletes with moderate dominance of the autonomous regulatory mechanism. For example, for men, the indicator of total work power on 4,2% higher, and indicators of maximum, average and relative power by 2,4;2,9 and 1,9%, respectively (p0,05). The women, with type III multiple scores, the rates were significantly higher by 3,2; 4,2;4,1; 3,6%, respectively (p0,05).

Abstract:
Development of tree species in Swiss forests – some methodological considerations Swiss forests have been subject to more stress in recent decades due to increased climatic and biogenic disturbances. Some tree species, such as Norway spruce, have been more severely affected than others. How the tree species composition of the Swiss forest has changed during this time has been assessed with data from the Swiss National Forest Inventory (NFI). The four indicators, presence, dominance, number of stems and basal area, were examined to see: whether the changes in the most important tree species are significant; whether the indicators have developed in the same way in the two diameter classes, D1 (12–36 cm DBH) and D2 (> 36 cm DBH); and how different diameter thresholds (12 or 36 cm DBH) and different circular sample plot sizes (200 m2 or 500 m2) affect the development and significance of the indicators. All the values were estimated for the 5370 NFI forest plots that were accessible in all three inventories, NFI1 (1983–85), NFI2 (1993–95) and NFI3 (2004–06). Only in a minority of tree species did changes in the presence, dominance, number of stems and basal area develop in the same way. Most indicators for the conifer species spruce, fir and pine decreased significantly, whereas for the broadleaf species, maple and ash, as well as larch and the other conifers, they increased significantly. The basal area increased during the period investigated for all tree species except pine and spruce. The different development of the indicators number of stems and basal area can be attributed to a different development within the DBH classes D1 and D2. The inventory diameter threshold strongly affects the development of the indicator number of stems, but not that of the indicator basal area.

Abstract:
Since the early 2000s, the social and medico-social sector is experiencing significant evolutions and mutations. On the one hand, the number of persons taken over is constantly increasing. On the other hand, the finances and budgets available to the structures are constantly decreasing. This forces decision-makers to adapt and find new solutions to do more with fewer resources. In this thesis, we study a practical problem that is often faced by the decision-makers, which is the elaboration of optimal action plans. An action plan is a set of actions that are realized to improve both the performance of the structure and the quality of service offred to its residents. Elaborating an optimal action plan consists of identifying and selecting the best actions that improve all the objectives of the plan while respecting some constraints. After presenting the practical and theoretical context, we provide a formal modeling of the problem as a multi-objective knapsack problem. Then, we present a number of solution methods based on quality indicators and Lorenz dominance. We show that combining IBMOLS method with R2 indicator allows obtaining efficient solutions and easily integrating the decision-maker preferences. We also show that in a context where decision-maker preferences are not known or all the objectives are considered equals, Lorenz dominance is a very efficient tool to incorporate equity into the search process and reduce the number of non-dominated solutions as well as the algorithm runtime

Abstract:
Background: Population is ageing worldwide. With increasing age, institutionalization becomes a necessity for many older subjects. The adductor pollicis muscle thickness (APMT) is associated with muscle protein status, has shown to be correlated with nutritional parameters and was found to discriminate undernutrition status. Objectives: To evaluate the validity of APMT to screen undernutrition in institutionalized older adults. It is intended to study the association between APMT, from dominant and non-dominant hands, with undernutrition, and to define gender-specific APMT cutoff values for undernutrition screening. Participants and Methods: An observational analytic transversal study was conducted between May and July of 2018 in six nursing homes for older adults in the north of Portugal. A total of 104 subjects were enrolled. Socio-demographic and nutritional indicators were obtained. APMT was measured in dominant and non-dominant hands using a skinfold caliper. Mini Nutritional Assessment - full form (MNA) was used to evaluate undernutrition status. Two different multivariable linear regression models were constructed to identify variables possibly associated with dominant and non-dominant APMT (dependent variables). Gender-specific Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis was conducted to evaluate the performance of APMT for correctly screening undernutrition or its risk, on the basis of participants' classification by MNA (not undernourished versus undernutrition and undernutrition risk). Results: The present study sample is composed of 31 men (29.8%) and 73 (70.2%) women, age ranged from 65 to 93 years old, mean (standard deviation) =82 (7) years. APMT was inversely associated with undernutrition or undernutrition risk: dominant APMT β=-0.284 (95% confidence intervals: -3.513; -0.896) and non-dominant APMT β=-0.207 (-2.977; -0.172), after adjustment for gender, age and education. Women’ cutoff value obtained for dominant APMT was 10.5 mm, with a sensitivity equal to 96.9% and a specificity equal to 24.0%. For non-dominant APMT these values were 11.5 mm, 78.1% and 38.0%, respectively. For men, dominant APMT cutoff value, sensitivity and specificity were respectively 14.5 mm, 100.0% and 29.0%, whereas for non-dominant APMT these values were 17.5 mm, 61.5% and 78.0%. Conclusions: Relevant evidence regarding the validity of APMT as an undernutrition screening method for the institutionalized older adults was achieved. After adjustment for potential confounding variables, dominant and non-dominant APMT were found to be inversely associated with undernutrition or its risk. Moreover, APMT cutoff values were defined. In general, dominant APMT provided for better diagnostic values. These cutoffs need further validation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
From the point of view of the new science of globalism, the problems of the ecological, socio-economic state of the world and countries are considered through the prism of the interaction of the human psyche and society and the inhabited world. The criteria of ecological civilization of countries and peoples are justified. Optimizing the consumption of natural bio-and energy resources is becoming a fundamental environmental factor for sustainable development. The "Law of the maximum for humanity" as the law of the biosphere can be the arbitration court, the neutral force that will explain the historical need for mutual understanding, taking into account the interests of ecology and economy for the survival of man as a biovid on Earth; a new reality will begin to form — the phenomenon of co-residence of the world society with the biosphere. The world's population, its energy and bio-consumption, as well as all living matter on the planet, must correspond to the biological capacity of the Earth and not go beyond its boundaries. The task of the society is to implement a worldview breakthrough at the current stage of development, its own cultural mutation, which in the future will create the basis for adaptive technological and socio-cultural development. The task is to classify the entire Earth as a "Green Book" and to solve systemic environmental problems of a global nature. An integral part of sustainable development should be the principle of "vital consumption" at both the personal and social level, instead of the dominant principle of"expanded production and consumption". The indicator of the" culture of consumption "of natural resources, both at the individual level and at the level of society, should be included as an integral part of the integral indicator in the "True Indicator of Progress" and the "Human Development Index". The book is interdisciplinary in nature; it is a kind of scientific and philosophical poetic essay intended for teachers and students of universities in the field of sociology, ecology, biology and related fields, as well as for everyone who cares about the future of society.

Abstract:
We study socioeconomic indicators of female labour force participation in off-farm formal employment in a subsistence agriculture setting in northern Ghana, where a new commercial farm provides a positive demand shock for low-skilled labour. We use a set of quantitative and qualitative data examining determinants of female labour force participation, the social effects arising from it, and the influence on female decision-making power in their households. In line with other micro-studies, we find that education is not a driver of female labour participation in low-skilled jobs. Women from wealthier households and those with young children have a significantly lower probability of starting off-farm work. Polygamy and male dominance reduce women’s labour force participation. Women who earn off-farm income are strengthened in their intra-household decision-making position and can spend more money on themselves.

Abstract:
This book is the most wide-ranging exploration of national progress yet undertaken, spanning social, economic and environmental perspectives. It brings together some of Australia’s leading researchers to consider indicators of national performance, what they tell us about the quality and sustainability of life in Australia, and how these measures can be improved. It also includes commentaries by senior bureaucrats, academics and community representatives. At one level, the debate is about the adequacy of Gross Domestic Product, as the dominant indicator of a nation’s performance, relative to both the past and other nations. However, the debate also reaches far beyond this question to challenge conventional thinking about progress and the relationships between economic activity, quality of life, health and well-being, and ecological sustainability.

Abstract:
Once a leader in the production and trading of rare earths, the United States relinquished the reins to China in the 1990s. The People’s Republic of China declared rare earths “protected and strategic materials” and proceeded to control production and processing, introduced export quotas, and sought to dominate the supply chain for crucial applications. It also made investments in mines worldwide. The 2010 crisis caused a parabolic rise in prices, leading the United States, the European Union, and Japan to file a complaint against China at the World Trade Organization, in 2012, and to launch trilateral cooperation workshops, starting in 2011, to promote recycling, substitution, and innovation. China lost its WTO appeal and removed the export quotas in May 2015. The market corrected itself, and it may seem today that China lost an initial battle; but closer examination indicates that it may not have lost the war.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the cross-national determinants of protest participation in Latin American democracies, testing several central expectations from the protest state theory. Drawing on data from the AmericasBarometer, a biennial survey conducted by the Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP) from 2004 to 2014, and World Bank governance indicators, I use multilevel modeling techniques to evaluate how country-level institutional characteristics interact with individual-level indicators of political engagement to explain protest behavior. Rather than offering support for dominant grievance-based explanations of protest or theoretical perspectives couched solely within the resource mobilization or political opportunities traditions, I find that an interactive relationship between institutional context and civic engagement best explains why Latin Americans choose to protest.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the Protestant parading tradition in Northern Ireland with particular focus on the dominance of the flute band scene within it. It provides an in-depth discussion into the central characteristics of each flute band type, namely, blood and thunder, melody and part-music, through an ethnographic analysis of five flute bands. The social, political and religious orientations of each band are examined, as well as their choices in instruments, uniforms and symbolism. An understanding of these orientations indicates how the musical choices and symbolic choices of these bands are linked to the ways in which they construct and articulate their notions of Ulster Protestantism in postconflict Northern Ireland.

Abstract:
Counting Religion in Britain, 1970–2020, the fourth volume in the author’s chronological history of British secularization, sheds significant new light on the nature, scale, and timing of religious change in Britain during the past half-century, with particular reference to quantitative sources. Adopting a key performance indicators approach, twenty-one facets of personal religious belonging, behaving, and believing are examined, offering a much wider range of lenses through which the health of religion can be viewed and appraised than most contemporary scholarship (which is typically confined to one or two measures). Summative analysis of these indicators, by means of a secularization dashboard, leads to a reaffirmation of the validity of secularization (in its descriptive sense) as the dominant narrative and direction of travel since 1970, while acknowledging that it is an incomplete process and without endorsing all aspects of the paradigmatic expression of secularization as a by-product of modernization. The appendix of 173 tables, a discrete statistical reference work in its own right, besides supporting (and being cross-referenced in) the main text, is designed as an extension to 2020 of the appendix of tables to 1970 in the acclaimed 1977 Clarendon Press volume Churches and Churchgoers: Patterns of Church Growth in the British Isles since 1700, by Robert Currie, Alan Gilbert, and Lee Horsley. As well as covering statistics generated by faith communities and the state, as did the 1977 book, the appendix to Counting Religion in Britain, 1970–2020 includes a wide variety of time series from national sample surveys.

Abstract:
The goal of this article is to analyse and compare the tourist attractiveness of the cities in the Czech Republic from the foreign tourist point of view before the COVID-19 pandemic (in 2018) and during its peak (in 2020). To assess the tourist attractiveness of cities, two indicators were utilized in the study - the indicator of the intensity of foreign tourism (the ratio of overnight stays to the number of inhabitants) and the share of overnight stays of foreign tourists. The study embodies 191 cities with more than 5,000 inhabitants. Firstly, the results confirmed the patent dominance of Prague (69% of all overnight stays in 2018, the intensity 12.3), and the overall dominant position of 42 cities with urban conservation zone (92% share of overnight stays, the intensity 7.6) and above all of the spa towns (14.7% share of overnight stays, the intensity almost 14). Secondly, the results confirmed the expected consequences of the pandemic on the most tourist-attractive cities in 2020. The share of overnight stays fell to 24% compared to 2018. Likewise, the indicator of the intensity of foreign tourism fell from 4,0 to 1,0 with a milder impact on the most important spa towns (the share of overnight stays of foreign tourists slumped to 30.3%, the intensity dropped from 13.9 to 4.2).

Abstract:
In the post-epidemic era, online education has developed rapidly. In order to improve the experience of online education services, this research uses user emotional valence as an evaluation variable to explore the evaluation methods of online education service systems. First, use the interactive contact matrix to deconstruct the system service interface, and set the evaluation indicators of the online education service system from the user and the user, the user and the system. Secondly, taking Tencent Classroom as the research object, based on the user's emotional evaluation, an online education service system evaluation experiment is designed. Taking learners' emotional pleasure, arousal, dominance, satisfaction and importance as measurement indicators, the multi-dimensional evaluation of the online education service system is completed. Finally, an online education service system evaluation model is constructed to provide a basis for system iterative optimization. At the same time, it provides effective ideas and feasible suggestions for enhancing the interest of online education services and users' learning initiative and enthusiasm.

Heterosis in maize: toward prevalence type of intralocus interactions. In the biometrical genetic analysis of maize productivity, performed according to the North Caroline III design, unbiased estimates were used to calculate the average degree of dominance, in which, on average, the effect of linkage was eliminated. The hybrids Rf7×Ku123, MK01×A619 were studied, and unbiased estimates were calculated for four more hybrids according to the literature data. For genes controlling productivity, unbiased estimates of the average degree of dominance ranged from 0.65 to 0.87 for different hybrids. The result indicates that the heterosis effect in maize is more likely to be caused by dominant interactions than over-dominant ones.

Abstract:
Disabilities are traditionally seen as development conditions involving personality desocialization risks. Features of the disorder are reflected in the consciousness of the individual. A person’s subjective perception of their disorder is important for social and psychological adaptation. Adaptive features and adolescent content of the inward disorder pattern (IDP) are presented in the article. The sample consisted of 109 participants — adolescents with visual impairments, with hearing impairments, with severe speech impairments, with delayed mental development. The optimal level of adaptation is typical for all respondents. Adolescents with hearing impairment demonstrate a high level of adaptability, indicate a high level of acceptance of themselves and others, emotional comfort, and internal orientation of self-control. At the same time, respondents demonstrate dependence on others. Respondents with delayed mental development have the opposite adaptation variant. A relatively critical level of acceptance of oneself and others, a moderate level of emotional comfort is observed in this group. Teenagers with delayed mental development often demonstrate dominance in relationships. A comparative analysis of the inward disorder pattern components shows a significant difference in the completeness of all components of the inward disorder pattern. Teenagers with visual impairment are best aware of their violation, know the causes and prevention factors. Adolescents with severe speech disorders show poor cognitive component IDP. Teenagers with delayed mental development are fixated on physical sensations. Children with hearing disorders do not notice physical sensations and discomfort associated with the disorder, and do not demonstrate motivation to change in response to the disorder. The greatest number of correlations exists between the motivational, physical component in the IDP and adaptation indicators. However, reliable correlations are established between the cognitive component and the manifestations of dominancedependence.

Abstract:
The mobility plays a very important role for the internal market, employment and, more generally, the citizens’s life quality that takes great advantages from an effective and sustainable transport system. In the last twenty years, mobility has become an ever increasing necessity: the average mobility per capita in Europe, measured in passenger-kilometres per capita, is increased by 7% between 2000 and 2008 and it is expected that in 2050 the passenger-km OECD Europe will double compared to 2000. Furthermore demand for resources and food is continued to grow well beyond the GDP over the past decade (EC, 2011), enhancing thus the freight. The current transport model that responds to this mobility demand, which also includes a large part of trips that could be avoided (McLellan & Marshall, 1998), is based on the dominance of road transport and use of fossil fuels (EC, 2011), both for freight and transport of passengers. As a conseguence this transport model is accountable for 23% of energy consumed in Europe, and about three quarters of which depends on road transport (IPCC, 2007) It is estimated that energy consumption in this sector will increase by around 80% for 2030. In this sector, the energy consumed originates of 96% from oil and its products (IPCC, 2007; EC, 2011; Lerch, 2011). Therefore, the transport sector is responsible for high emissions of CO2 and other climate-altering gases, for the temperature increase and for significant health problems in population directly exposed to oil-derived pollutants(U.S. EPA, 2010). The strong dependence on oil may also have important consequences on the resource supply and mobility of citizens for the next decades (EC, 2011; U.S. Joint Forces Command, 2010). The majority of trips are internal to the urban areas that are affected by this congestion, local air pollution, road accidents and social harms. Finally, urban trips have a major influence on climate change and energy consumption at the global level. Samaniego & Moses (2008) show the similarities existing between cities and organisms. Urban trips are effective if are done through a network representing an ordered configuration of relationships -connectivity-(Capra, 1996) which implies a particular shape, definite structure and one or more specific processes. The characteristics that are observed in organisms today are the result of millions of years of evolution that led to optimized structures that tend to minimize the energy cost for resource allocation thus maximizing their productivity. Therefore, the organisms tend to minimize their degree of entropy. To arrive at a configuration of urban connective tissue that can minimize its level of entropy is first necessary to identify a set of indicators on the basis of which it is possible to characterize the space and make possible dynamic analysis of urban morphology. In this context, the aim of this contribution is to identify a first set of meaningful indicators derived from a comparison of the characteristics of the vascular networks of an organism with the urban connective tissue.

Abstract:
In modern conditions, innovative augmented reality technologies are actively developing, which are widespread in many areas of human activity. Introduction of advanced developments in the process of professional training of future specialists of socionomic professions in the conditions of adaptive training, contributes to the implementation of the principles of a personalized approach and increase the overall level of competitiveness. The relevant scientific article is devoted to the theoretical and empirical analysis result of conducting a psychodiagnostic study on an innovative computer complex HC-psychotest. of the features of the implementation of augmented reality technologies in the construct of traditional psychological and pedagogical support aimed at the development of emotional intelligence of the future specialist. The interdisciplinary approach was used while carrying out the research work at the expense of the general fund of the state budget: “Adaptive system for individualization and personalization of professional training of future specialists in the conditions of blended learning”. A comprehensive study of the implementation of traditional psychological-pedagogical and innovative augmented reality technologies was conducted in the framework of scientific cooperation of STEAM-Laboratory, Laboratory of Psychophysiological Research and Laboratory of Psychology of Health in Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University. The theoretical analysis considers the structural model of emotional intelligence of the future specialist of socionomic professions, which is represented by two structural components: intrapersonal construct of emotional intelligence and interpersonal construct of emotional intelligence. Each component mediates the inherent emotional intelligence of interpretive, regulatory, adaptive, stress-protective and activating functions. The algorithm of the empirical block of research is presented by two stages: ascertaining and forming research. According to the results of the statement, low indicators were found on most scales, reflecting the general level of emotional intelligence development of future specialists, actualizing the need to find and implement effective measures for the development of emotional intelligence components in modern higher education and taking into account information development and digitalization. As part of the formative stage of the research implementation, a comprehensive program “Development of emotional intelligence of future professionals” was tested, which integrated traditional psychological and pedagogical technologies and innovative augmented reality technologies. This program is designed for 24 hours, 6 thematic classes of 4 hours. According to the results of a comprehensive ascertaining and shaping research, the effectiveness of the influence of augmented reality technologies on the general index of emotional intelligence is proved. The step-by-step model of integration of augmented reality components influencing the ability to analyze, understand and regulate emotional states into a complex program of emotional intelligence development is demonstrated. According to the results of the formative study, there is a dominance of high indicators of the following components: intrapersonal (50%), interpersonal (53.3%). Thus, we can say that intrapersonal and interpersonal emotional intelligence together involve the actualization of various cognitive processes and skills, and are related to each other. Abstract:
Bombus terrestris constitute important pollinators of greenhouse crops. In Israel the species utilized is, whose colonies are reared commercially. This is a primitively social species with a particular colony development. It encompasses two social phases: a eusocial phase in which the queen dominates reproduction, and a competition phase in which workers compete with the queen for the parentage of males. These workers are distinguished by accelerated ovarian development, high production of JH, and elevated levels of dopamine in the brain. Queen-worker conflict is also manifested in overt aggression among all members of the nest. High aggression is correlated with dominance status of the bees and is also correlated with octopamine levels in the brain. After verifying that JH III is the only JH produced by the bees and validating the assay for its measurements (RCA & RIA), we used JH as an indicator of worker reproduction. Queens taken from colonies both before and after the competition phase were equally effective in inhibiting worker reproduction. Moreover, there is only a narrow window, around the competition point, in which workers may have the opportunity to initiate reproduction. Before that point they are inhibited by the dominant queen, while after that point both the queen and those workers with accelerated ovarian development exert strong inhibition on worker nest mates. Thus, "queen dominance deterioration" is not the primary cause in eliciting the queen-worker conflict. Queens convey their presence by means of a chemical signal that is extractable in organic solvent and that is normally spread on the cuticle. Total body extract and body washes, applied on dead virgin queens, were able to inhibit the release of JHin vitro in queenless workers. However, none of the prominent exocrine gland investigated mimicked this function. It is possible that the source of the putative pheromone is an unknown gland, or that it emanates from an assembly of glands. Chemical analyses of the prominent glands revealed a plethora of compounds the function of which should be further investigated. Understanding the social behavior of B. terrestris paves the way to facilitate colony manipulation and to adjust the colonies for specific pollination requirements.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of the digital content of publications of one issue of the daily All-Ukrainian newspaper “Den” (March 13-14, 2020). The author aims to identify the main thematic groups of digital designations, as well as to consider cases of justified and unsuccessful use of digital designations. Applying the content analysis method, the author identifies publications that contain numerical notations, determines the number of such notations and their affiliation with the main subject groups. Finds that the thematic group of digital designations “time” (58.6% of all digital designations) is much more dominant. This indicates that timing is the most important task of a newspaper text. The second largest group of digital designations is “measure” (15.8% of all digital designations). It covers dimensions and proportions, measurements of distance, weight, volume, and more. The third largest group of digital signage is money (8.2% of all digital signage), the fourth is numbering (5.2% of all digital signage), and the fifth is people (4.4% of all digital signage). The author focuses on the fact that the digits of the journalist’s text are both a source of information and a catch for the reader. Vivid indicators give the text a sense of accuracy. When referring digital data to the text, journalists must adhere to certain rules for the writing of ordinal numbers with incremental graduation; submission of dates; pointing to unique integers that are combined (or not combined) with units of physical quantities, monetary units, etc.; writing a numerator at the beginning of a sentence; unified presentation of data. This will greatly facilitate the reader’s perception of the information.

Abstract:
The Lac aux Goélands area is of moderate relief characterized by till blankets in the lowlands and till veneers with large expanses of bedrock outcrops in the western and eastern margins. Bedrock was variably eroded by the Laurentide Ice Sheet, east of the Ancestral Labrador ice divide. Phases of ice flow imparted multiple sets of glacially streamlined landforms and erosional paleo-flow indicators on the landscape. However, the dominant eastward-trending, elongated streamlined landforms were formed by ice streaming during deglaciation. Multiple sets of discordant meltwater channels were formed from both an early phase of deglaciation, which fed into an eastward-trending esker network, and a subsequent late-phase ablation of the ice sheet, with north-south trending channels parallel to the retreating ice margin. Glaciolacustrine strandlines and littoral sediments within the upper George River basin mark the former northeastern extent of inundation of the earliest phase of glacial Lake Naskaupi.

Understanding maternal morbidity from the perspectives of women & people with pregnancy experience: a concept analysis. Abstract:
Review question / Objective: This study will investigate the question: what is maternal morbidity from the perspective of women and people with pregnancy experience? The objectives of this study are to: 1. describe the conditions and events that WPPE conceptualize as maternal morbidities, 2. identify the themes that arise across WPPE’s experiences, such as regional and cultural differences and similarities, and 3. produce a schematic representation of how WPPE conceptualize maternal morbidity. Background: Maternal morbidity is primarily concerned with adverse pregnancy-related outcomes, excluding mortality, among the pregnant and postpartum population. Although presently a global concern, maternal morbidity was not always prioritized in healthcare and research. The increased attention towards maternal morbidity in recent decades was preceded by the initial prioritization of maternal mortality as the dominant indicator of maternal health, leading to its decreasing trend over the decades.(1) Standards of maternal care are no longer solely defined by preventing mortality; they now include preventing and better treatment of maternal morbidity to improve patient outcomes. However, there are no universally accepted criteria for describing maternal morbidity. Less evidence is available on the views of Women and People with Pregnancy Experience (WPPE), and a knowledge gap exists in conceptualizing maternal morbidity from their perspective.

Melnyk, Andriy. «INTELLECTUAL DARK WEB» AND PECULIARITIES OF PUBLIC DEBATE IN THE UNITED STATES. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11113.

Full text
Abstract:
The article focuses on the «Intellectual Dark Web», an informal group of scholars, publicists, and activists who openly opposed the identity politics, political correctness, and the dominance of leftist ideas in American intellectual life. The author examines the reasons for the emergence of this group, names the main representatives and finds that the existence of «dark intellectuals» is the evidence of important problems in US public discourse. The term «Intellectual Dark Web» was coined by businessman Eric Weinstein to describe those who openly opposed restrictions on freedom of speech by the state or certain groups on the grounds of avoiding discrimination and hate speech. Extensive discussion of the phenomenon of «dark intellectuals» began after the publication of Barry Weiss’s article «Meet the renegades from the «Intellectual Dark Web» in The New York Times in 2018. The author writes of «dark intellectuals» as an informal group of «rebellious thinkers, academic apostates, and media personalities» who felt isolated from traditional channels of communication and therefore built their own alternative platforms to discuss awkward topics that were often taboo in the mainstream media. One of the most prominent members of this group, Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, publicly opposed the C-16 Act in September 2016, which the Canadian government aimed to implement initiatives that would prevent discrimination against transgender people. Peterson called it a direct interference with the right to freedom of speech and the introduction of state censorship. Other members of the group had a similar experience that their views were not accepted in the scientific or media sphere. The existence of the «Intellectual Dark Web» indicates the problem of political polarization and the reduction of the ability to find a compromise in the American intellectual sphere and in American society as a whole.

Abstract:
One of the well-known results of the theory of management is the fact, that multi-stage hierarchical organization of management is unstable. Hence, the ideas expressed in a number of works by Don Tapscott on advantages of network organization of businesses over vertically integrated ones is clear. While studying the basic tendencies of business organization in the conditions of globalization, computerization and internetization of the society and the results of the financial activities of the well-known companies, the authors arrive at the conclusion, that such companies, as IBM, Boeing, Mercedes-Benz and some others companies have not been engaged in their traditional business for a long time. Their partner networks performs this function instead of them. The companies themselves perform the function of system integrators. The Tapscott’s idea finds its confirmation within the framework of a new powerful direction of the development of the modern interdisciplinary science – the theory of the complex networks (CN) [2]. CN-s are multifractal objects, the loss of multifractality being the indicator of the system transition from more complex state into more simple state. We tested the multifractal properties of the data using the wavelet transform modulus maxima approach in order to analyze scaling properties of our company. Comparative analysis of the singularity spectrumf(®), namely, the difference between maximum and minimum values of ® (∆ = ®max ¡ ®min) shows that IBM company is considerably more fractal in comparison with Apple Computer. Really, for it the value of ∆ is equal to 0.3, while for the vertically integrated company Apple it only makes 0.06 – 5 times less. The comparison of other companies shows that this dependence is of general character. Taking into consideration the fact that network organization of business has become dominant in the last 5-10 years, we carried out research for the selected companies in the earliest possible period of time which was determined by the availability of data in the Internet, or by historically later beginning of stock trade of computer companies. A singularity spectrum of the first group of companies turned out to be considerably narrower, or shifted toward the smaller values of ® in the pre-network period. The latter means that dynamic series were antipersistant. That is, these companies‘ management was rigidly controlled while the impact of market mechanisms was minimized. In the second group of companies if even the situation did changed it did not change for the better. In addition, we discuss applications to the construction of portfolios of stock that have a stable ratio of risk to return.

Wright, Kirsten. Collecting Plant Phenology Data In Imperiled Oregon White Oak Ecosystems: Analysis and Recommendations for Metro. Portland State University, March 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.15760/mem.64.

Full text
Abstract:
Highly imperiled Oregon white oak ecosystems are a regional conservation priority of numerous organizations, including Oregon Metro, a regional government serving over one million people in the Portland area. Previously dominant systems in the Pacific Northwest, upland prairie and oak woodlands are now experiencing significant threat, with only 2% remaining in the Willamette Valley in small fragments (Hulse et al. 2002). These fragments are of high conservation value because of the rich biodiversity they support, including rare and endemic species, such as Delphinium leucophaeum (Oregon Department of Agriculture, 2020). Since 2010, Metro scientists and volunteers have collected phenology data on approximately 140 species of forbs and graminoids in regional oak prairie and woodlands. Phenology is the study of life-stage events in plants and animals, such as budbreak and senescence in flowering plants, and widely acknowledged as a sensitive indicator of environmental change (Parmesan 2007). Indeed, shifts in plant phenology have been observed over the last few decades as a result of climate change (Parmesan 2006). In oak systems, these changes have profound implications for plant community composition and diversity, as well as trophic interactions and general ecosystem function (Willis 2008). While the original intent of Metro’s phenology data-collection was to track long-term phenology trends, limitations in data collection methods have made such analysis difficult. Rather, these data are currently used to inform seasonal management decisions on Metro properties, such as when to collect seed for propagation and when to spray herbicide to control invasive species. Metro is now interested in fine-tuning their data-collection methods to better capture long-term phenology trends to guide future conservation strategies. Addressing the regional and global conservation issues of our time will require unprecedented collaboration. Phenology data collected on Metro properties is not only an important asset for Metro’s conservation plan, but holds potential to support broader research on a larger scale. As a leader in urban conservation, Metro is poised to make a meaningful scientific contribution by sharing phenology data with regional and national organizations. Data-sharing will benefit the common goal of conservation and create avenues for collaboration with other scientists and conservation practitioners (Rosemartin 2013). In order to support Metro’s ongoing conservation efforts in Oregon white oak systems, I have implemented a three-part master’s project. Part one of the project examines Metro’s previously collected phenology data, providing descriptive statistics and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the methods by which the data were collected. Part two makes recommendations for improving future phenology data-collection methods, and includes recommendations for datasharing with regional and national organizations. Part three is a collection of scientific vouchers documenting key plant species in varying phases of phenology for Metro’s teaching herbarium. The purpose of these vouchers is to provide a visual tool for Metro staff and volunteers who rely on plant identification to carry out aspects of their job in plant conservation. Each component of this project addresses specific aspects of Metro’s conservation program, from day-to-day management concerns to long-term scientific inquiry.
