Abstract:
The article presents the analysis of diffusion-convective mass transfer processes and their parameters, defines hydrogeochemical criteria for evaluation of brine chemical composition formation in Dombrovskyi quarry of Kalush-Golynske deposit. It has been experimentally determined that the temperature gradient (20 °С) significantly affects the rate of mass transfer in the brines. This is probably due to convection-diffuse processes. The dynamics of processes occurring when fresh water enters the brine surface has been experimentally simulated. Analysis of these data from the point of view of formal kinetics for irreversible process allowed estimating the speed of convection-diffusion process. The rate of self-diffusion of water into saturated brine of galite (D=1,21·10-5 cm2/s) and hydrated (in tritium water) ions of Na+Cl- (D=6,62·10-6 cm2/s) were experimentally studied by the isotope method using the tritium label. According to the spatial dynamics of the half (from equilibrium) tritium concentration, the linear rate of self-diffusion of water into brine (6,56 cm/day) and diffusion of hydrated sodium chloride ions into water (1,10 cm/day) are calculated. At the same time, the change rate of position of half (from equilibrium) tritium concentration in the spatial plan is almost the same: (0,22 cm/day) and (0,23 cm/day), respectively. Mathematical models describing the dynamics of these processes have been constructed. The obtained data make it possible to calculate the rates of salts movement from the depth of the Dombrovskyi quarry to its surface. Estimated amount of fresh water (220 thousand tons), capable to indifundate within a year from the surface to a 100-meter depth in the lower layers of Dombrovskyi quarry brines and dissolve the salt-containing rocks in its sides and the bottom.

This article addresses the way in which Latvian political actors communicated the gap between popular support for the welfare state and austerity measures aimed at dismantling it. I investigate the case of the Latvian economic crisis of 2008–2010. To this end, I utilise the typology developed by Paul Hart and Karen Tindall. Originally, this typology had been developed to analyse different approaches to the framing of economic crises by political elites in several Western countries. Initially, the study intended to include post-socialist countries, severely hit by the 2008 Economic crisis, however this original aim was not realised. In order to fill this gap, this paper focuses on the Baltic states, which suffered economic crisis and extensive transformation of their welfare systems. The typology distinguishes between three framing types: 'threat', 'opportunity' and 'business-as-usual', the first two of which are ideologically antagonistic. Analysing 250 news articles and a number of political documents that trace the political communication of Latvian prime ministers, welfare Ministers and ruling coalition parties, this paper provides evidence that 'framing' the crisis as a threat to the public good was the most common way of rationalising the need for austerity measures following the economic downturn. At the same time, the crisis as an opportunity frame has been used since the end of the economic crisis in Latvia. The latter was the outcome of successful electoral results of the ruling party 'Unity', the driving force of the First Dombrovskis government. Since the 2010 general elections in Latvia, both Dombrovskis himself and other politicians and officials loyal to the government have used the frame 'crisis-as-an-opportunity', continuing the dismantlement of the welfare state even after the end of the economic crisis.

Abstract:
The aquatic invertebrate community of Dombrovskyi pit lake was investigated during 2014–2018. 25 species were recorded there. The only permanent component of plankton in the community is rotifer Brachionus plicatilis Müller, 1786; of benthos and neuston is hemipteran Sigara lateralis (Leach, 1817), beetle Hydrobius fuscipes (Linnaeus, 1758), flies Aedes sp., Ochlerotatus lepidonotus (Edwards, 1920), Culicoides salinarius Kieffer, 1914, Ephydra glauca Meigen, 1830 are permanent components of benthos and neuston. The main diversity of invertebrates is concentrated in littoral zone up to 2 m of depth. This is primarily due to the desalination of these areas by surface runoff. Over the last decade the mineralization of the surface water layer has decreased from 120–138 to 25–28 g/l. Combined with the desalination of water, the increase of species diversity of aquatic invertebrates was noticed in spring seasons (from 7 to 17 taxa). The freshwater taxa, which are not tolerant even to low water salinity, appeared in the community in 2018 (7–25 % of the species diversity), among them Hydrometra stagnorum (Linnaeus, 1758), Rhyacophila tristis Pictet, 1834, Coelambus impressopunctatus (Schaller, 1783), Enochrus coarctatus (Gredler, 1863), Hydrophilus caraboides (Linnaeus, 1758). The role of freshwater taxa, which are tolerant to low water salinity (up to 5 g/l), increased from 0–10 % of the species diversity in 2014–2015 to 22–35 % in 2018. Among them Eucyclops serrulatus (Fischer, 1851), Candona sp., Cypris pubera O. F. Müller, 1776, Cloeon dipterum (Linnaeus, 1760), Libellula depressa Linnaeus, 1758, Sympecta fusca Vander Linden, 1820, Paracorixa concinna (Fieber, 1848) was noted in 2018 for the first time. On the contrary, the number of saltwater taxa decreased from 20–29 % (2014–2015) to 5–14 % (2018). The saltwater aquatic invertebrate community of this pit lake has transformed into brakish-freshwater one over time. 83 % taxa of aquatic invertebrate communities from freshwater puddles near reservoir coast are noted in the Dombrovska reservoir. The introduction of species from protective canals of the reservoir is unlikely, as only 5 % of taxa from there are marked in it. The main way of the forming communities of invertebrates in this reservoir is the periodical flooding of freshwater coastal puddles.

Abstract:
<p>Frequency and spectrum of cytogenetic disorders in the cells of root meristem sprouts of <em>Triticum aestivum L.,</em> induced by soil contamination with hexachlorobenzene in the territory of toxic waste ground and Dombrovskyi potassium ore mine (Kalush city, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast), were studied. The concentration of hexachlorobenzene exceeded MPC (maximum permissible concentration) by 1233.3–18350 times. It has been established that chemical soil contamination causes the increase of the frequency of cytogenetic aberrations by 1.8-3.8 times. Its highest indicators were found under the most intensive soil contamination with hexachlorobenzene in the areas of toxic waste ground which were not recultivated. Frequency of cytogenetic disorders exceeded the control level by 3.4-3.8 times. The maintenance of high mutagenic activity of hexachlorobenzene remains in the soil of the recultivated area of the ground is confirmed by statistically reliable increase of the number of aberrant cells by 2.6-3 times. It has been shown that soil contamination of Dombrovskyi mine with the complex of natural-mineral compounds of mining-chemical raw materials causes the increase of mutagenic activity level of low concentrations of chemical gene-toxic factors of techno-genic origin, which is seen in the induction of higher level of cytogenic disorders compared with spontaneous indicators by 1.8-2.4 times. Spectrum of chromosome aberrations, which mostly included acentric fragments, expanded due to induced bridges, ring chromosomes and micronuclei. The share increase of the cells with dicentrics, caused by the effect of soil contamination with hexachlorobenzene in the territory of toxic waste ground, confirms the radiomimetic effect, resulted from the effect of chemical mutagen in high concentrations. Chemical pollutants of the soil of all the studied areas show the ability to cause mitosis disorder, connected with the damage of mitotic apparatus. A significant increase of disorder frequency of chromosome segregation can be the result of the interaction of mutagens not only with microtube proteins of division spindle but also with heterochromatin of near-center areas of chromosomes, which is typical for the mechanism of the emergence of cytogenetic aberrations under the effect of chemical supermutagens in high concentrations. The increase of the cell number with multiple aberrations under the effect of soil contamination with hexachlorobenzene in different concentrations proves high gene-toxicity of the chemical compound and the threat of severe genetic outcomes when it gets into the environment.</p>

Mass accumulation of toxic waste near inhabited localities has changed some regions of Ukraine, in particular Kalush industrial area (Ivano-Frankivsk region), into zones of ecological disaster. Research on cytogenetic anomalies caused by chemical soil contamination of the territories of toxic chemical warehouses will be useful in determining the level of mutagenic activity of xenobiotics when they enter the environment and potential mechanisms of the induction of chromosome reconstructions by them and mitosis disorders. The aim of the research is to study frequency and spectrum of the types of cytogenetic disorders in T. aestivum L. under the prolonged effect on the seeds of soil contaminated with hexachlorinebenzene from territories of toxic waste warehousing and to determine the level of their mutagenic activity as compared with the effect of moderate and high concentrations of N-nitrozo-N-methylurea (NMU). Seeds of winter wheat cultivars Al’batros odes’kyi and Zymoiarka were sprouted in the soil samples taken from the toxic waste ground of LLC “Oriana Halev”, its recultivated area and the dump area of Dombrovskyi potash ore mine, situated near Kalush city. Hexachlorobenzene concentrations in the soil of the studied areas exceeded CPC by 1233–18350 times. Soil samples from a tentatively clean area of Svatky village, Hadiach district, Poltava region were taken as the control. To study cytogenetic consequences of the effect of moderate and high concentrations of NMU, wheat seeds were kept in a mutagen water solution at concentrations 0.005%, 0.010%, 0.025%. Frequency and spectrum of cytogenetic anomalies were determined in the cells of sprout root meristem using the anatelophase technique. Chemical contamination of the soil exhibited high mutagenic activity which, by induction frequency of cytogenetic anomalies, exceeded the control level by 1.8–3.8 times and equalled mutagenic activity of NMU in moderate concentrations. The highest level of cytogenetic disorders, which exceeded spontaneous indicators by 3.4–3.8 times, was found when the soil contamination of the territory of the toxic waste ground with hexachlorobenzene was the most intensive. Traces of hexachlorobenzene in the soil of the recultivated plot of the ground continue to manifest high cytogenetic activity and pose a threat for the genomes of living organisms. Frequency of chromosome aberrations at a low hexachlorobenzene concentration in the soil of the disposal area of Dombrovskyi mine exceeded spontaneous indicators by 1.8–2.4 times, which is the result of its complex effect with natural-mineral compounds of mining-chemical raw materials. The increase of some bridges and acentric chromosome rings – markers of a radiation effect – among the types of cytogenetic disorders, induced by the soil contamination with hexachlorobenzene, confirms the radiometric properties of the xenobiotic, which were identified at high concentrations of NMU. The increase in the number of the cells with multiple aberrations, induced by the hexachlorоbenzene contamination of the soil holding the studied objects proves the high genotoxicity of the chemical compound and the threat of serious genetic consequences if it enters the environment.

В последние десятилетия во многих европейских странах увеличилась численность орлана-белохвоста (Haliaeetus albicilla), естественно возник вопрос, как поведёт себя в этих условиях скопа (Pandion haliaetus), главный трофический конкурент орлана. С целью выявления наиболее напряженных параметров их экологических ниш было проведено сравнение «гнездовых выделов», гнездовых деревьев, архитектоники гнёзд, а также спектров питания скопы и орлана-белохвоста в Витебской области Белоруссии. Исследования показали, что с экологических и статистических позиций конкуренция между скопой и орланом возможна при добыче рыбы. Сравнительное изучение трофических ниш этих видов показывает, что ослабление пищевой конкуренции между этими видами достигается путем In the light of the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) population growth in many European countries we tried to find out how the osprey (Pandion haliaetus), which inhabits mainly the upland bogs of Northern Belarus and have similar to white-tailed eagle ecological niche, behave. Nesting biotopes, nesting trees, the architectonics of nests, as well as food spectra of the osprey and the white-tailed eagle in the Vitebsk region of Belarus were compared in order to identify the principal parameters of their ecological niches. Breeding territories were searched by using the circular plot census method modified by Dombrovski. Descriptions of nest site positions were done using the forest stand maps of local forest management divisions. Forest blocks and particular stands where the nests were situated or suspected to be situated were identified from the maps, and available state survey stand features were used. Diet was studied by standard methods. In the result of Morishita-Horn index calculation, it was shown that the competition between ospreys and White-tailed Eagles might occur during feeding on fish. The other parameters are not overlapped. Species solve this problem by preying on different fish size classes.

Analyzed scientific and public activities, everyday life, and lifestyle of the famous historian, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Ivan Krypiakevych, who in Soviet times headed an important socio-humanitarian institution – the Institute of Social Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences whose researchers studied history and culture, ethnolinguistic processes in the western region. Summarized the main achievements of the scientist on the history of the princely and Cossack era, and the military history of Ukraine. The study shows the family environment of the scientist – the work and interests of his wife and children, local history trips of the scientist to the Carpathians, around Lviv, Zhovkva, and Rohatyn. The scientist was interested in classical music and folklore, the natural environment of Lviv parks. His collaboration with photographers, bookplate collectors, and public figures in the field of research and preservation of historical, cultural and natural monuments of his native land is shown. Was revealed the friendly atmosphere created by the director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in the team, where satirical evenings and creative meetings with Lviv writers were organized. The head of the institution was focused on forming in the Institute a sense of friendly creative family, an atmosphere of friendliness, respect for the employee regardless of rank and position, and implementing the work of the team not by coercive methods, but by the logic of actions. The Lviv historian always had his position on fundamental issues and consistently defended it, was faithful to his professional vocation, and tried to do good for science, the people, and his family.
