Abstract:
The research starts from a previous incidental acknowledgement concerning persisting of certain dogmata in the history of press; it aims to investigate the emergence of the dogmata in inter-war press from Oltenia. Various dogmata crossed inter-war magazines from Oltenia, but they have not been received without analysis. On the contrary, they were exposed as far as serving the publication profile. "Gazzette of the School" received in columns educational ideas of some philosophers and educators fashionable, who have subjected to experiment, their theory. The comparative analysis of Oltenia magazines from monarchical range are detached three dogmata-patterns: antiutilitarianism, Romanism and pedagogical experimental. They are examined the practical effects of these dogmata-patterns.

Abstract:
Abstract Wolff advocates the mathematical method, which consists in chains of syllogisms that proceed from axioms and definitions to theorems, for achieving scientific certainty in branches of philosophy like ontology and physics. By contrast, in ‘The Discipline of Pure Reason in its Dogmatic Use’ Kant significantly limits the efficacy of this method in philosophy. In this paper I investigate an under-examined result of the Discipline: Kant’s claim that his system of philosophy does not contain “dogmata”. By identifying “dogmata” in Wolff’s system of physics, I argue that, for Kant, they are propositions that uncritically deploy ideas of reason. I conclude that the Discipline extends criticisms raised in the Transcendental Dialectic to any erroneous use of the mathematical method in philosophy.

Abstract:
The present paper deals with eight charges that are frequently leveled against any research that focuses on the agrapha dogmata. The charges are demonstrated to be completely unfounded and, therefore, duly dismissed. In particular, it is argued here that the phrase ta legomena (so‑called) is by no means to be understood as ironic. Consequently, the article rejects the very common picture of Plato as some sort of dogmatist and author of a fixed philosophical system. However, Plato’s philosophy is presented as rather ‘overt’ and ‘straightforward’ in its nature. With the situation being as it is, thorough knowledge of the agrapha dogmata is shown to be an absolute prerequisite for understanding Plato’s dialogues. The paper concludes with an observation that while investigating the issue is completely warranted and does not in any way entail any devaluation of the dialogues, Aristotle’s testimony must also be taken into account.

Abstract:
This work aims to provide an original and thorough exploration of the relationship between Marcus Aurelius and the Christians by means of an in-depth analysis of the available historical, literary, epigraphic, numismatic, and legal sources. Specifically, it will show that the a posteriori view of Marcus Aurelius as protector Christianorum, apparently introduced by Tertullian, is unfounded. In support of this argument, a legal analysis of the available sources will show that, far from enjoying legal protection during the Principality of Marcus Aurelius, Christians were still subject to Trajan’s laws. The true reasons underlying the policy of Marcus Aurelius towards the Christians will be investigated by comparing the Middle Platonism of Justin Martyr with the stoic meditations of the princeps. In particular, the philosophical interpretation of the attitude deemed suitable in the face of death will provide an insight into the reasons that led to the wave of violence and to the trials of Christians under Marcus Aurelius’ rule

Abstract:
Having as a parameter some concepts related to cinematography narratives and the inclusion of digital technology in film production, the text analizes four Denmark movies made under the rules of the Movement Dogma95: The Celebration, by Thomas Vinterberg (1998); The Idiots, by Lars Von Trier (1998); Mifune, by Soren Kragh-Jacobsen (1999); The King is Alive, by Kristian Levring (2000). We try to situate this movement as being a representation of the comtemporary cinema in relation to its singularity. Its difference is for being considered the last vanguard in the cinematography at the end of the twentieth century with a narrative built under rebelious tendencies called Classic Cinema, Hollywood Cinema, and Entertaining Cinema like Vertovs Kinos Filmes, The Italian Neo-Realism and The French Nouvelle Vague. These tendencies have strong influences over the movement. Another fact analized here are the themes chosen for each film, which raise questions related to a comtermporary subjectivity.

Duby, Steven J. "Divine simplicity : a dogmatic account." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/5935.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis offers a constructive account of the doctrine of divine simplicity in Christian theology. In its methodology, the thesis aims to present this divine perfection as an implicate of the scriptural portrayal of God, to draw upon the insights and conceptual resources of Thomas Aquinas and various Reformed orthodox theologians, and to respond to some objections to divine simplicity. The focus on exegetical elaboration of biblical teaching and the use of Thomas and the Reformed orthodox distinguish this work from a number of recent accounts of God in both systematic theology and analytic philosophy. The case for God's simplicity is made by examining God's singularity, aseity, immutability, infinity, and act of creation in Holy Scripture and then tracing the ways in which these descriptions of God imply that he is (negatively) not composed of parts. Rather, he is (positively) actus purus and really identical with his own essence, existence, and attributes, each of which is identical with the whole being of the triune God considered under some aspect. In light of the constructive work, this study then addresses the three most pressing objections to divine simplicity: (1) that it denigrates God's revelation of his many attributes in the economy; (2) that it eliminates God's freedom in creating the world and acting in history; and (3) that it does not cohere with the doctrine of the Trinity.

Abstract:
This chapter asks whether, in PH 1.13, Sextus says that Pyrrhonian skeptics have some, or no, dogmata. The chapter distinguishes an internal from an external question. The internal question asks whether Sextus says that skeptics have any dogmata; and, if he says they do, what dogmata does he takes them to have? The external question asks whether dogmata are beliefs in the sense of taking to be true. The chapter argues that dogmata are beliefs in that sense. It also argues that, according to I 13, Sextus allows that skeptics have beliefs, though only about how they are appeared to.

Abstract:
The article examines the Evoplia fidei catholicae romanae historico-dogmatica (The Historical-dogmatic Armour of the Roman Catholic Faith), a book which was published in Rome in 1694 by a Maronite, Faustus Naironus (b. 1628, d. 1708–1712). This Eastern Christian wrote several books in his own name, and spent his entire career in Rome, but failed to enjoy much of a reputation as a scholar during his own lifetime. Published by the Congregation of Propaganda press, the Evoplia was a controversial anti-Protestant book, where Naironus presented the Syrian Christians’ contribution to the Catholic cause: according to him, Eastern Christians, regardless of their Church, adhered to the Roman Catholic Church’s position on the seven sacraments and the main dogmas. I chart the gestation of the book, and explore the reasons – some confessional, some scholarly – why this work elicited little response, both among Protestant and French Catholic scholars.

Abstract:
In spite of the fact that the development of fuel cells is a scientific and technological process, the process, itself seems to be largely determined by the human factor. By a number of examples it will be shown that this development and the creative process necessary for its progress is sometimes hindered by strong beliefs and frequently repeated statements that within themselves hold some truth but do not represent the whole truth. They can be regarded as ‘fuel cell dogmas’. Often implicit assumptions or particular boundary conditions lie behind the dogma. These assumptions or conditions may be altered in the course of the developments or for specific applications. Sometimes the dogma is essentially a rumor that is conveniently accepted by newcomers in the field. An example of the latter is the ban on the use of LiNa carbonate electrolyte in a MCFC instead of LiK because of its supposed higher corrosiveness. Nowadays LiNa is accepted as the new standard electrolyte in a MCFC. The most famous dogma is that fuel cells are more efficient than heat engines because they are not limited by the Carnot efficiency. Yet it is not always true, not even in the reversible limit. For a long time polymer fuel cells were considered to be inherently too expensive because of the membrane and the Pt catalyst. They were considered only suitable for niche markets such as space applications. As we know now General Motors believes differently. Other dogmas are: - Fuel cells have a higher efficiency than heat engines. - A fuel cell converts Hydrogen into power and heat. - Nernst loss is always proportional to utilization and inevitable. - To be economically feasible the fuel gas utilization should be as high as possible. - To be economically feasible the fuel cell should be operated at the highest possible power density. - A fuel cell always has two inlets and two outlets. - In order to use solid fuels in a fuel cell they must be gasified first. - Only low temperature fuel cells are suitable for automotive applications. These and other dogmas will be critically analyzed in terms of the underlying assumptions and boundary conditions. New options that are revealed by breaking through the dogmas are briefly sketched.
