Full textIn France, one third of the people dying on the roads are killed after impacting against ahazard. In 90% of the reported cases, these accidents result from loss of control. VehicleRestraint Systems (VRS) are specially designed to restrain an errant vehicle and to limitimpact severity. Before being installed on the roadsides, these devices have to be crash-tested according tostandards in order to evaluate their safety and deflexion performances.Tolerances exist on impact parameters (vehicle, vehicle mass, impact speed, impact angle, impact point …) and material’s mechanical characteristic uncertainties have an effect towardsdevice performances and have to be taken into account during numerical simulations.Steel-wood structures present an additional numerical challenge due to wood heterogeneityand its sensibility to environment variables such as temperature and moisture content. In order to assess the effect of this variability toward safety performances, three point bendingdynamic experiments on structural samples are performed and modelled. Finally, a complete model of a vehicle restraint system is built and validated according to realcrash test results thanks to a parametric method. This method takes into account the variabilityof the parameters associated to the failure modes of the structure. Once validated the model isused to assess the effect of wood mechanical properties modifications due to environmentvariable variations

Full textThe orientation of the aviation industry towards cleaner technologies has led to the gradual replacement of conventional hydraulic actuator networks by Electromechanical actuators (EMA). The operating safety required in the aeronautical domain requires earlier fault detection and isolation to ensure the reliability and availability of the actuator. One of the critical identified failure is a jamming which must then be monitored based on the existing instrumentation architecture. The resolution of this problem which is the main objective of the PhD. thesis, was carried out in three stages using a Bond Graph theory (BG) as an integrated and unified approach. The first step concerns the structural monitorability (ability to detect and isolate faults) analysis based on deterministic Bond Graph (BG) models obtained from the EMA. Based on the structural monitorability conditions results, a sensor placement was proposed by the synthesis of an observer to improve the monitoring performances of the subsystems (mainly to monitor the fault required by the manufacturer: jamming). The scientific interest of such approach lies in the fact that it is independent of the numerical values of the parameters at this level by exploiting the structural and causal properties of the BG. A second step consists in the analytical validation of the obtained structural properties. For this task, the implementation of analytical redundancy relations, robust to parametric uncertainties, deduced from the extended BG model (called BG-LFT), have been proposed. And finally, an industrial validation by cosimulation with the Amesim© software was carried out in the third part

Full textThis PhD work is about the experimental demonstration of an optical parametric oscillator (OPO; in AlGaAs/A10x waveguides. Inserting thin aluminum oxide (A10x) layers in the GaAs guiding core of the waveguide at a sub-wavelength scale allows us to artificially reach the birefringence which is necessary to get an efficient nonlinear interaction between a TMOO pump at 1064 nm and TE00 signal and idler around 2128 nm. After defining an optical signal and idler-resonant cavity by the means of dielectric mirrors, the oscillation threshold is reached with an internai pump power of 210 mW. This result is the first demonstration of a guided-wave semiconductor OPO in the near infrared. In a second part, we tried to improve the performances of this device following three different paths. The first is the reduction of the propagation losses through a better control of the oxidation step and the insertion of GaInP barriers on each side of the oxidized layers. The second development path is a change in the optical cavity configuration : using a double pump pass cavity has enabled us to slightly reduce the oscillation threshold. The third explored path is the thermal protection of the sample with a glass layer deposited on the top of the waveguides. A part of this PhD work has also been devoted to a similar device for the emission of a coherent radiation around 2000 nm by second harmonic generation from a quantum cascade laser emitting around 4500 nm

Full textIn France, in 2015,motorcyclists represent 43% of seriously injured accident victims in road traffic. At the same time, even though motorcyclists impact crashes against the road restraint systems represent on average 10% of accidents in road traffic, motorcyclists present a risk of death from30 to 80 times upper than the risk of death for users of vehicles involved in the same type of accidents. To enhance the safety of motorcyclists, Vehicle Restraints Systems (VRS) arefitted to the lower part of restraint systems for motorcyclists. Motorcyclist’s Restraint Systems (MRS) are designed to absorb shocks gradually and to preventmotorcyclists to pass through the lower part of VRS, to hit a post and be severely injured. Before being installed on the roadsides, MRS have to be crash-tested according to standards in order to evaluate their safety and ensure motorcyclists safety. However, there are only normative procedures to testMRS, the LIER procedurein the French context and the procedure EN1317-8 in the European context. To assess both normative procedures and propose new provisions which can be used as normative procedure more advanced on the protocol of MRS performances evaluation tests, numerical simulations were performed. A numerical model of MRS was developed and correlated on one real impact test on other device of same type. Once correlated, the model was used to conduct a parametric study on the test conditions and thematerialsmechanical properties of the MRS. Finally, a new demarche of MRS performances evaluation was developed

Full textThis work aims at exploiting the quantum properties of light in order to develop new communication devices. Our study is devoted to the quadrature components (quantum continuous variables) of a single mode of the electromagnetic field in the pulsed regime. A quantum key distribution protocol using coherent states has been demonstrated. The experimental set-up is based on laser pulses containing one hundred photons on average, which are modulated in the phase space. For each incoming pulse, the time-resolved homodyne detection samples one value of a particular quadrature component. The experiment yields a net secret key rate of 1. 7~Mbis/s for a loss-free line, and 75~kbits/s for a line with 3. 1~dB losses. This opens the way for practical high-rate quantum cryptography devices. In order to study the use of quantum specificities such as squeezing and entanglement, we have developed a new source of pulsed squeezed states and entangled states. This source is based on the nonlinear conversions of ultrashort pulses occurring in a thin potassium niobate crystal. Depending on the set-up, the quadrature noise reduction is 2. 7~dB below shot noise, while the correlation between the entangled beams is 2. 5~dB. We also describe the first observation of a ``degaussification'' protocol, that maps individual pulses of squeezed vacuum onto non-Gaussian states. This protocol is closely related to an entanglement distillation procedure for continuous variables, which allows to extend the range of quantum key distribution schemes

Full textThe main goal of this thesis is the understanding of the physical mechanisms and the subsequent control of the properties at the origin of the spin transfer induced magnetic vortex gyrotropic motion in confined systems. In particular the origin of the noise affecting the dynamics has been investigated. This work has been performed with a view to improving the radiofrequency (rf) properties of the so-called Spin Transfer Oscillator (STO).The advantages of such oscillators are their sub-micron size (from few tens to hundreds of nanometres), their compatibility with CMOS technologies and their radiation hardness. Moreover, the magnetization dynamics involved permit a large tunability of frequency as a function of the applied current and a high agility i.e. a fast dynamical response. Nevertheless, several open questions exist regarding the possible optimization of the sustained oscillation conditions and the improvement of the STO power and spectral coherence. The first aspect of my work was to investigate the influence of thermal fluctuations over the sustained vortex core gyrotropic motion. One of the key results of my thesis was to show that the phase noise results from direct phase fluctuations from thermal fluctuations plus amplitude fluctuations converted to phase noise. With an analytical model, we were able to highlight the major role played by the non-linearities of the forces acting on the vortex core. In addition, we were able to measure the characteristic parameters of the oscillator, namely, the speed of frequency response to perturbations as well as the phase-amplitude coupling coefficient. The second important part of my work has been to improve the conditions for obtaining an rf signal. An important result of this work was the measurement of a powerful rf signal in the absence of a magnetic field. The measured powers are a few hundred milliwatts and correspond to low linewidths, ranging from a few hundred kilohertz to a few megahertz. The zero field behaviour was made possible due to the complex structure of the oscillator where the magnetic layer which polarizes the spin current has a perpendicular magnetization, in contrast to the in-plane polarized reference layer. The third step was to optimize the performance of the oscillator. One of the striking results of this thesis is that we measured a record rf output power, up to 3.6 µW, the largest obtained at room temperature for vortex based STOs so far. This high output power results from the development of new FeB based junctions made by the group of Pr. S. Yuasa (AIST, Japan), where the improvement of the quality of the junction allowed us to obtain a magnetoresistance up to 125%.The small size of the oscillator has a cost that is paid in terms of the phase noise. One possible solution that would solve this limitation and enhance the coherence of the oscillations is via mutual synchronization of several STOs through rf currents emitted by each oscillator. Thus, the last stage of my thesis was to study the behaviour of gyrotropic motion when subjected to an alternating current. An important result was to show, through an experimental study in conjunction with an analytical model, the crucial role of the non-linearities and symmetries of the synchronization forces. These various studies have provided us the tools to better understand the dynamics of magnetic vortex and led us to develop an original tester for which the oscillator synchronizes itself with its own rf signal. Depending on the delay at which the oscillator is fed back, we showed for the first time that the frequency, the power and also the linewidth of the oscillations can be modulated

Full textThis work deals with robust fault diagnosis in presence of parameter uncertainties using bond graph model in LFT form (Linear Fractional Transformations). An approach for ARRs and adaptive thresholds generation is developed and implemented on appropriate software. The diagnosis performances are improved using a residual sensitivity analysis, which allows defining sensitivity indexes of parameter uncertainties and fault delectability indexes. The fault detectable value can be estimated (in puissance terms) due to the energetic aspect of the bond graph tools. The developed method is applied in real time on two industrial applications with different complexities: Mechatronic system, in order to detect and to isolate backlash phenomenon by distinguishing fault from parameter uncertaintiesEnergetic process of steam generation, which is a no stationary system with a complex parameter space

Full textThe project practice tooled by digital processes associated with CAD/CAM apparatuses deeply disrupted the approaches of architectural design. Non-standard geometries, now within everyone’s reach, generate new materialities and modifiy usages. Furthermore, parametrics now injects an ineluctable hiatus by implementation and simultaneity of form declensions produced under the aegis of natural and formalized syntaxes. Through this research, we question the analog/digital solubility mechanisms and prospective potentialities implied by such a paradigms remodeling. In the context of this PhD thesis investigations hosted by the laboratory MAP-Aria at ENSA Lyon, the students’ works from SPACA[A]N 2015/16 Master of Architecture constituted our research material. By the emulsion of techniques either sometimes archaic, either advanced, we explored the creativity potentialities governed by a scenario as guideline in an exploratory conception stance
