Abstract:
<p>Reorganizing a layout entails a massive adjustment and thorough planning is essential before a new layout implemented. This project is to reorganize layout at dispatching area of a manufacturing industry which produces apparel accessories products. Current arrangement at the dispatching area of the company shows an interrupted flow path of activities and scattered of queuing cartons at area of activities in the dispatching line which brought to operating issues. The project aims to identify problem in current arrangement of dispatching layout, analyze the the problem and propose an alternative layout that reduces dispatching time. Time studies were applied to collect data on current performance, developing alternative arrangement, and evaluation the alternative through Witness simulation. The finding showed total dispatching time of current layout consumes 30.77 minutes to complete one dispatching job with distance travel of 162.83 meters. Better alternative layout is developed by the approach of facility planning process. Results showed the dispatching time has reduced by 32.79%, which the alternative layout only consumes 20.68 minutes to complete one dispatching job with shorter distance travel of 109.44 meters.<br /><br /></p>

Abstract:
The algorithm of reactive power dispatching "per generator" realization is presented in the paper. Dispatching "per generator" and "per grid" are two modes of reactive power dispatching used by coordinated reactive power and voltage regulator (GRRS). Reactive power dispatching "per generator" ensures equal heating of the generators, while dispatching "per grid" ensures maximal reactive power reserve when generated reactive power either increases, or decreases. Reactive power dispatching "per generator" is more complex for realization because the dispatching criterion may have wider generator's reactive power operation area than the working capability curve. In these cases, the additional limiting of the generator reactive power is necessary, while other generators take over the remaining reactive power, still considering the reactive power dispatching criteria "per generator" and the limits of the remaining generators. Both reactive power dispatching modes are presented in two examples, while operating near and far from the limit area. Eventually, as the verification of the algorithm and its realization, the operating results of GRRS while dispatching "per generator" is active, are presented.

Abstract:
In the process of emergency relief material dispatching, most of the traditional algorithms for dispatching are for single rescue point and single material dispatching, which cannot solve the problem of multirescue emergency relief dispatching. The various supply and demand points for emergency relief materials and the multiple emergency relief material dispatching are utilized to create the multiobjective planning model, which is then used as the optimization objective to create the best material dispatching plan. Genetic algorithm (GA) is used to solve the optimal material dispatching scheme and symbolic coding; special pulse crossover operator and variational operator are used to ensure the quality of the solution. The experiment proves that the simulation method of the aviation emergency rescue process considering the application scenario characteristics is efficient in the emergency rescue process and can meet the application requirements of material dispatching in the process of civil emergency disaster relief.

Abstract:
In this paper, a comprehensive evaluation factor model of a truck dispatching system in open-pit mines is constructed from the three dimensions of optimal route, traffic flow planning, and real-time dispatching, and the final combined weight of the factor is determined according to game theory. On this basis, a comprehensive evaluation model of a truck dispatching system in open-pit mines based on gray relational analysis—technology for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (GRA-TOPSIS) is established. Taking the truck dispatching system in five open-pit mines as the research background, the advantages and disadvantages of the dispatching system were comprehensively evaluated, and the differences between the dispatching systems were analyzed using the radar chart method. The research shows that the evaluation results of the comprehensive evaluation model of the truck dispatching system in open-pit mines based on GRA-TOPSIS are in line with the reality, which is more conducive to analyzing and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the systems, effectively identifying the differences of various systems, and making the evaluation of truck dispatching systems more scientific. The research results of this paper broaden the evaluation of truck dispatching systems and provide a theoretical basis for the optimization of truck dispatching systems.

Van, de Venter Al '. louise. "Dispatching emergency reserves." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/13727.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation presents the analysis of cost-effective dispatching of emergency reserves with a specific focus on supply and demand side options. On the demand side options the focus is the demand market participation product. On the supply side options the use of hydro and gas specifically the open cycle gas turbines are studied. In capacity constraint systems, supplying the demand with the current generation mix needs to be met. With a diminishing reserve margin and increase in demand yearly this challenge increases. The South African scenario is reported in this paper. As demand grows the ability to meet that demand remains a focus; a responsibility that remains a priority for the system operator. In times of surplus or shortage generation with adequate or diminishing reserve margins the focus on dispatching optimally and economically is an important aspect. Currently the South African Interconnected Power System is constrained; at times there is more demand than supply. The reserve categories are the ancillary requirements and are different for all power systems. Reserves are to cater for disturbances on the power system to ensure a healthy frequency is maintained. Reserve categories according to the ancillary requirements are: instantaneous, regulating, ten minute, supplemental and emergency. This dissertation focuses on emergency reserve.

Abstract:
Train dispatchers faces lots of challenges due to conflicts which causes delays of trains as a result of solving possible dispatching problems the network faces. The major challenge is for the train dispatchers to make the right decision and have reliable, cost effective and much more faster approaches needed to solve dispatching problems. This thesis work provides detail information on the implementation of different heuristic algorithms for train dispatchers in solving train dispatching problems. The library data files used are in xml file format and deals with both single and double tracks between main stations. The main objective of this work is to build different heuristic algorithms to solve unexpected delays faced by train dispatchers and to help in making right decisions on steps to take to have reliable and cost effective solution to the problems. These heuristics algorithms proposed were able to help dispatchers in making right decisions when solving train dispatching problems.

Abstract:
Current computer systems are becoming more and more complex. Even commodity computers nowadays have multiple cores while heterogeneous systems are about to become the mainstream computer architecture. Parallelism, synchronization and scaling are thus becoming issues of grave importance that need to be addressed efficiently. In environments like that, creating dedicated software and Operating Systems is becoming a difficulty for performance enhancement. Developing code for just a specific machine can prove to be both expensive and wasteful since technology advances with such speed that what is considered state-of-the-art today becomes quickly obsolete. The Multikernel schema and its implementation, the Barrelfish OS, target a group of different architectures and environments even when these environments “co-exist" on the same system. We present a different approach on loading and executing programs and using our new scheduling policy we handle tasks rather than threads, balancing work-load and developing a dynamic environment with respect to scaling and performance. Our goal is to use our findings in order to establish a more controlled way to use resources.

Abstract:
Electrical power systems are currently moving towards distributed generation, using many small generators instead of a few large ones. This can potentially produce great improvements in efficiency, by allowing utilisation of waste heat (cogeneration). However, it also poses new problems of control and co-ordination of large numbers of generators, which may be connected deep within the distribution network. It is well known that existing schemes for planning, dispatching and protection of central generators are not directly applicable to the new technology, and dispatching (scheduling) of small embedded generators is not currently feasible. In this work, a novel dispatching management system which may meet this requirement is proposed. Instead of using a single control centre, it distributes dispatching functions throughout the network. Some functions are performed by controllers and software agents built into the embedded generators themselves, and others handled by dispatcher software associated with a group of generators and loads. The dispatcher operates a small virtual market where energy can be traded between agents representing: generators, loads, network functions (AVR etc), and other dispatchers. This allows multiple dispatchers to be interconnected, so potentially dealing with very large numbers of generators. To test this concept, some prototype agents, a basic dispatcher, and means of communication were created, in the form of programs on a desktop computer. The "REDMan" suite of software achieved successful trading of energy in a simulated environment. This motivated a more advanced trial where REDMan was developed further and used for experimental dispatching of real generating equipment and loads. Construction and assembly of the experimental apparatus, interfacing of hardware to the computer environment, experiments and results are presented and discussed here. The experimental system was dispatched in a satisfactory manner, and much practical experience was gained in the issues relating to dispatching of EG. Several possible avenues for further research were identified.

Abstract:
The Incident Dispatching and Tracking System (IDTS) was developed to facilitate the technical support of an organization. IDTS provides a means by which a user may submit their issue/problem to the system and receive a unique trouble ticket number. This number can then be used to view the status of that record, minimizing the need for inquiries to the technical support team. IDTS also provides a dispatching function that assigns each trouble ticket to a technician that specializes in that type of issue. Finally, there is a reporting function that allows the technical support team to view the current technical status of the organization, generate statistics on previously submitted trouble tickets, and determine areas that may require assistance in the future.

Abstract:
Abstract A dispatching rule has become one of the most widely used approaches in producing scheduling due to its low time complexities and the ability to respond to dynamic changes in production. However, there is no one dispatching rule that dominates the others for the performance measure of interest. By modelling the selection of a dispatching rule to transit from one production state to another using a Markov decision process, current methods involving reinforcement learning make use of a predefined list of dispatching rules, which may limit the optimization of a specified performance measure. Greater flexibility can be achieved by creating customized dispatching rules through the important selection of production parameters for the performance measure in question. Using parameters obtained readily within the digital twin setting, this paper investigates the application of deep reinforcement learning to select customized dispatching rules formed by weighted combinations of production parameters on a single machine production scheduling problem. Due to the curse of dimensionality of storing Q values for all possible production states in a Q-table, a deep Q network is trained for the dynamic selection of the customized dispatching rules. Preliminary results show its effectiveness in minimizing total tardiness and outperform well-known existing dispatching rules.

Abstract:
Job shop scheduling is an important activity which properly assigns production jobs to different manufacturing resources before production starts. Compared to other scheduling approaches that use optimal branch and bound algorithms, meta-heuristics, etc., the dispatching rule based approach has been widely used in the industry because it is easier to implement, and it yields reasonable solutions within a very short computation time. The dispatching rule based approach uses a selected single dispatching rule (e.g. Shortest Processing Time or Earliest Due Date) or a rule combination depending on the current production objective like maximizing productivity, minimizing makespan or meeting the due dates. However, a dispatching rule or a pre-set rule combination always pursues a single and fixed production objective. This characteristic confines the flexibility of the scheduling system in practice. In order to address this issue, this paper proposes a semantic similarity based dispatching rule selection system that can achieve the intelligent selection of dispatching rules based on the user selected one or more production objectives for job shop scheduling. The intelligent selection is addressed by measuring the semantic similarities (based on ontology) between the user selected production objectives and the characteristics of the dispatching rules. The rule combinations will then be constructed by combining individual dispatching rules with similarity value based weights. A proof-of-concept demo has also been provided as a case study in this paper.

Abstract:
The crisis of the system of professional development and personnel training in the energy sector exists not only in Ukraine but also all over the world. The article describes the concept of development and functioning of the industry system of personnel training in the energy sector of Ukraine. The importance of using modern web-oriented technologies to improve the skills of operational and dispatching personnel in the energy sector of Ukraine is substantiated. The meth- ods of distributed power system operating modes modelling are presented. De- velopment and software tools for the construction of distributed simulating sys- tems and particular features of cloud technologies application for the creation of a virtual training centers network in the energy sector, as well as the ways to automate the process of simulating scenarios development are described. The ex- perience of introducing remote training courses for energy specialists and remote web-based training simulators based on a comprehensive model of the energy system of Ukraine is presented. An important practical aspect of the research is the application of software and data support for the development of personnel key competencies in the energy sector for rapid recognition of accidents and, if necessary, accident management. This will allow them to acquire knowledge and practical skills to solve the problems of analysis, modelling, forecasting, and monitoring data visualization of large power systems operating modes.

Abstract:
This paper presents a systematic analysis and design framework for a spectrum of last-mile delivery systems that leverage unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Four distinct modes are considered: (1) direct drone deliveries from a fixed depot; (2) drone deliveries from parked trucks that carry bulk parcels to customer neighborhoods; (3) drone deliveries from nonstopping trucks that tour customer neighborhoods; and (4) as a benchmark, traditional truck-based home deliveries. We present a new continuum-approximation approach that is used for analysis of both truck routing and aerial-UAV traffic. We compared the operational cost and efficiency of different delivery schemes to reveal how a certain scheme is the most efficient under various scenarios. We demonstrate the applicability of our model on expansive real-world roadway networks and further conduct analysis on grid networks, yielding key analytical insights. The drone-based delivery is demonstrated to be superior to conventional truck-only delivery, suggesting a significant potential for socioeconomic benefit. It is observed that when servicing a relatively low demand over a small area, dispatching drones directly from the distribution facility is the most efficient method. As the demand grows or spans a wider area, collaborative strategies are preferred, as they better cope with certain aspects, such as the long line-haul cost or the ramping aerial congestion, by striking a balance between efficiency and flexibility.
