Abstract:

Tout discours met en évidence un état affectif, en certains cas. En analysant ce propos, notre objectif est d’appréhender un métadiscours (instances discursives) mettant, en scène une figure humaine en transition, un corps inventé, un discours énonciatif qui surpassent celles des humains, parfois même les déshumanisent. Ainsi, la réponse demeure à travers l’interview de Sophia, le robot humanoïde, tel un être affectif et social. Ce métadiscours soulève une problématique qui est de savoir : comment par une approche sensible, l’intelligence artificielle (IA) parvient à déshumaniser l’intelligence humaine, à travers des affects ? Cette réflexion gravitera autour de différentes perspectives. Lesquels axes sont portés sur des éléments théoriques, à travers des pratiques signifiantes révélant le sensible. Abordant le schéma tensif, les affects assez poussés de l’humanoïde ont su intervertir l’intelligence humaine.

Abstract Dans cet article, nous proposons le concept du « sublime royal » pour repenser le sublime au dix-septième siècle, avant, avec et autour de Boileau, en nous penchant moins sur l’intervention de Boileau elle-même que sur le contexte qui a rendu sa réussite possible : une situation où toute expression culturelle hégémonique avait avant tout une visée politique, celle de glorifier le monarque absolu. En tant que figure qui présente l’irreprésentable, le sublime permet l’impossible dans la représentation du roi : le présenter comme absolu. Il s’agit là d’un fonctionnement qui est, certes, paradoxal, mais selon un paradoxe qui est constitutif de l’absolutisme lui-même. C’est ce paradoxe constitutif qu’il s’agit d’examiner ici en étudiant, dans un premier temps, quelques exemples représentatifs du discours de l’auto-représentation de l’absolutisme, puis les répercussions plus larges du changement de perspective que nous proposons. En vue d’études ultérieures, nous examinons la façon dont le concept du sublime royal change notre conception de la place des Anciens dans la politique absolutiste, avant de montrer comment le concept de sublime royal contient en germe un nouveau modèle pour penser le développement de l’assentiment affectif à l’absolutisme et la manière dont les sujets y participent.

Abstract:

Cet article propose d’explorer l’humanité des sciences dites humaines, dans lesquelles doit figurer l’analyse du discours, sous ses aspects affectif et éthique. Pour cela, on fait intervenir des notions encore peu mobilisées dans les territoires scientifiques des théories du discours comme les affects, les vertus ou la réflexivité. On examine en premier lieu le projet d’une science réaliste de l’humanité tel qu’il est formulé par Devereux 1967 à propos de la réflexivité et de l’inconscient des chercheurs ; on pose en second lieu la question de la dimension éthique du savoir, autrement dit le problème de la vertu épistémique, à partir des travaux épistémologiques en philosophie de la connaissance ; on propose enfin une revue critique de pseudo-postures réflexives et éthiques qui ne mènent pas vraiment à une véritable humanité de la science du discours.

Cet article pose la question de l’attachement individuel à la cité et ainsi de la relation affective entre individu et communauté politique. Cette interrogation conduit à proposer des éléments pour décrire le processus de formation de l’identité citoyenne, cela à partir du corpus patriotique défini non comme un genre littéraire mais comme un corpus rassemblant des extraits parfois disparates, de Y Iliade aux orateurs athéniens du IVe siècle avant notre ère, qui prennent en compte, à un moment donné, le champ sémantique de la patris/patrê. La discussion porte ensuite sur la définition de l’individu antique et sur la prise en compte de ses émotions et de ses sentiments de façon historique. Après avoir souligné combien les discours patriotiques visent la psyché individuelle, analogues dans leur fonctionnement au muthos et à la rhêtorikê selon Gorgias, on analyse la façon dont l’expérience originelle de la dépendance aux parents est formulée sous la forme de la dette la plus contraignante, et politisée par l’analogie établie entre les parents individuels et la cité.

La thèse de cet article est double. Premièrement, à l’instar de Ferguson et de Fondas, l’auteure soutient que la profession de gestionnaire est engagée dans un processus de féminisation, par lequel les qualités associées traditionnellement aux femmes se répandent tant dans la théorie de la gestion que dans la pratique managériale. Pour sa part, Fondas suggère que les principes de gestion américains contemporains féminisent cette profession, et l’article de Symons a pour objet d’examiner cette hypothèse. D’ailleurs, l’étude qualitative et inductive à méthodologie flexible, menée au Québec par l’auteure auprès de 50 cadres de niveau supérieur et intermédiaire ainsi que superviseuses et superviseurs, venant d’organisations publiques et privées, soutient la thèse de la féminisation. Deuxièmement, l’auteure présente la métaphore de l’espace-temps affectif en tant que nouveau concept sociologique pour comprendre la dynamique affective du travail de gestion. Elle argumente que ce concept fournit une perspective organisationnelle nouvelle et utile, à partir de laquelle il est possible d’examiner le processus de féminisation. L’article se termine par une réflexion sur la signification de ce développement théorique en ce qui a trait à l’interrelation du féminin, des émotions et de la gestion dans le discours et dans la pratique. Selon la perspective de l’espace-temps affectif, les émotions sont des ressources et non un destin.

Ernest Lavisse, intégré dans le milieu intellectuel parisien, républicain libéral, défenseur de l’école laïque, pédagogue est aussi enfant du Nouvion-en-Thiérache, petite commune du département de l’Aisne ou il est né. Quels sont les liens entre ce « directeur de la rue d’Ulm » et cet homme de province « demi-bourgeois, demi paysan » qui a permis la transition entre l’empire et la République. Les différentes valeurs morales et politiques qu’il défend s’expriment en partie dans les manuels d’instruction morale et civique qu’il rédige sous le pseudonyme de Pierre Laloi. Sous une autre forme, les discours qu’il a prononcés pour la distribution des prix à l’école communale du Nouvion-en-Thiérache entre 1903 à 1912 traduisent également ses conceptions de la Nation, des valeurs de la République et de l’école laïque. Dans son livre « souvenirs » et dans ses discours, il dévoile par des anecdotes simples, le mécanisme intellectuel et affectif qui ont forgé certaines de ses convictions et qui ont fait du serviteur de l’empire un chantre de la Patrie et de la République. Pédagogue infatigable et grand orateur, par ses discours aux enfants, il exprimera, dans sa ville natale, l’essentiel de ses convictions profondes auprès d’un public de jeunes élèves mais aussi auprès des habitants de son pays natal qu’il affectionne.

Résumé S’appuyant sur les théories du genre (gender) et sur les théories féministes matérialistes, l’auteure de cet article soutient que le roman Le vieux chagrin (1989) de Jacques Poulin recèle un discours constructiviste sur la parentalité. En mettant en scène un homme qui, pour assumer les tâches du travail affectif (caring), se dépouille des schémas virils de l’identité masculine, Poulin révise aussi bien l’idée d’essence virile que l’association étroite entre féminité et maternage. L’article présente les procédés textuels par lesquels passe cette révision, notamment la réécriture des schémas freudiens, la dissémination des métaphores de la migration (entre masculin et féminin) et la valorisation d’un ethos maternant.

Plusieurs élèves et étudiants au Maroc du niveau primaire, secondaire, collégial et universitaire présentent des difficultés en écriture, en langue arabe et en langues étrangères. Nous savons d’ailleurs qu’écrire est l’un des objets les plus complexes de l’apprentissage (Barratte, 2007). Cette complexité confère à l’enseignant de langue une responsabilité majeure. Il ne s’agit plus d’enseigner les aspects linguistiques de la langue, mais aussi les processus cognitif, métacognitif et affectif mis en œuvre pour produire le discours. Actuellement, la recherche démontre que les pratiques enseignantes ont une incidence favorable sur le succès des élèves dans leur apprentissage de la lecture et de l’écriture. Dès lors, changer sa manière de voir l’enseignement-apprentissage d’écrire au Maroc est devenu primordiale.

Le rapport à l’automobile de 70 résidents de secteurs périphériques de l’agglomération de Québec, non desservis par le transport en commun, est analysé à travers leurs comportements de mobilité, ainsi que leurs discours sur l’environnement et l’automobile. Leurs déplacements quotidiens varient beaucoup et tous les actifs ne se déplacent pas quotidiennement vers le centre-ville. Des différences selon l’âge et le sexe caractérisent non tant les comportements en tant que tels, mais plutôt le rapport affectif ou fonctionnel entretenu envers la voiture. Si les femmes aiment conduire leur voiture dans la même proportion que les hommes, ce n’est pas pour les mêmes raisons. Diminuer le recours à la voiture individuelle, ce serait transformer en profondeur tout un mode de vie ; comprendre ce mode de vie et ce pour quoi plusieurs personnes l’apprécient est essentiel dans l’atteinte de cet objectif.

This study examines the effects of produce shape abnormality, organic labeling, and discounts on consumers’ intention to purchase produce. Two studies were conducted. In Study 1, a 3 (normal, moderate, and extreme shape abnormality) × 2 (with and without organic labeling) between-subjects design was used. In Study 2, a 2 (moderate and extreme shape abnormality) × 5 (discount: 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70%) between-subjects design was used. A total of 480 valid responses to questionnaires were collected. Study 1 revealed that the interaction between produce shape abnormality and organic labeling significantly affects purchase intention. Study 2 revealed that the interaction between produce shape abnormality and discount significantly affected purchase intentions. For a 30% discount, the results indicate no difference in intention to purchase moderately or extremely abnormally shaped produce. For 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70% discounts, intention to purchase moderately abnormally shaped produce was stronger than that for extremely abnormally shaped produce. This study discusses the implications of the findings, limitations, and recommendations for future research.

Abstract:

The current study is an attempt to analyze discourse from the CDA perspective. The study aims at answering the following questions: How language use in Trump’s and Alsisi’s speech affected people? Do their speeches have positive or negative implication for the Egyptians people? And what are the discursive strategies used in their speeches?To answer these questions, the study hypothesizes that speakers use different strategies, argumentation and historical background to express their ideologies to listeners to have their supports. Also, it is hypothesized that English and Arabic speakers differ in the ways they make use of these materials.Wodak’s model (1999); the historical discourse approach (DHA), has been chosen to be the model adopted to analyze the data selected. Accordingly, two speeches of the former presidents; Abdul Fatah Assisi, in Khartoum-Sudan in March 6, 2021 and Donald Trump the former president of the United States of America, on Oct 23, 2020 about Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam are selected to be the data of this study. Concentration is going to be on the components of the historic approach including the strategies, the topos, the context and the historical background. Each discourse is analyzed according to these components. At last, the current study finds out that Trump as a speaker uses more topos of danger and that Assisi uses more reference strategy a conclusion which unveils the hidden ideologies of the speakers that Trump is more confident, more powerful and impetuous than Assisi who seems less confident, less powerful and careful in choosing his words.

Prenant comme cadre théorique l’analyse du discours, le présent article interroge le rapport entre émotion(s) et agressivité verbale à travers l’analyse de l’impolitesse volcanique et l’impolitesse affective stratégique. Partant du postulat que ces manifestations de l’impolitesse supposent une gestion et une manipulation différentes des émotions, ma démarche est ici double : il s’agit de dégager le fonctionnement des émotions dans un corpus médiatique (séquences extraites de talk-shows télévisés) et de mettre en parallèle les deux formes de violence verbale. En effet, l’analyse du corpus montre que l’impolitesse volcanique et l’impolitesse affective stratégique se ressemblent de par leur forme mais se distinguent de par leur temporalité, leur spontanéité et sincérité, et surtout de par la mise en scène complexe qui accompagne cette dernière et qui met en place trois portraits (héros, antihéros, victime) et trois discours (dénonciation d’une injustice, accusation, victimisation). Emotions and verbal violence: volcanic impoliteness and strategic affective impoliteness Taking the Discourse Analysis as the theoretical framework, the present article explores the relations between emotion(s) and verbal violence through the analysis of volcanic impoliteness and strategic affective impoliteness. Starting from the premise that each of these manifestations of impoliteness implies a different type of management and manipulation of emotions, my approach will be twofold: I will try to bring out the functioning of emotions in my corpus (composed of several extracts of TV talk-shows) and to compare the two forms of verbal violence. Indeed, the analysis of my corpus shows that, although volcanic and affective strategic impoliteness may have the same form, they differ with regard to their temporality, to they spontaneity and sincerity, and especially to their mise en scène: the complex mise en scène of the latter provides three portraits (the hero, the antihero and the victim) and three speeches (denunciation of some sort of injustice, accusation, victimization).

Abstract The Fifty Shades trilogy is often associated with BDSM, yet practitioners of BDSM typically disavow the trilogy. Previous research highlights how mechanics of BDSM such as agency and consent are misrepresented in the trilogy; this study highlights differences in affect. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork among BDSM practitioners in Berlin, Germany, this paper considers reception beyond reading as evidence of BDSM’s affective phenomenology. The paper combines an Ortner-inspired “cultural ethnography through discourse” with close reading: it compares discourse and affect observed in the field with that in the novels, and suggests that the portrayal of BDSM in the novels and portrayals of the novels as representations of BDSM misinterpret the affective phenomenology of BDSM. Through attention to language, this study shows how affect and situated discourse become mutually constitutive in shaping the legibility of phenomenological experience, suggesting that playful reterritorializations of semiotic forms can counter mimetic perpetuations of symbolic violence.

Nathalie Léger returns to Barthes’s Fragments d’un discours amoureux to highlight its continuing appeal. But can it be pinned down? Should the attempt even be made? Léger draws on a life-time of engagement with Barthes to its range of invitations in this book to think through experience and re-connect with the discourse of love. The story of these engagements begins with ones that no longer seem purposeful – the concern with classification and system; before trusting in experience again, including experiencing the manipulations of romance narratives and the search for bite-size ‘truths’. Written in allusive fragments or affective propositions of its own, the piece presents Fragments d’un discours amoureux biographically, autobiographically, speculatively, pleasurably: it’s an invitation to dance in a rhetorical ballet of attachments full of movement and pauses, and the distances between words and people needed to breathe the air of understanding.

Abstract It is widely held within contemporary metaethics that there is a lack of linguistic support for evaluative expressivism. On the contrary, it seems that the predictions that expressivists make about evaluative discourse are not borne out. An instance of this is the so-called problem of missing Moorean infelicity. Expressivists maintain that evaluative statements express non-cognitive states of mind in a similar manner to how ordinary descriptive language expresses beliefs. Conjoining an ordinary assertion that p with the denial of being in the corresponding belief state famously gives rise to Moorean infelicity: (i) ?? It’s raining but I don’t believe that it’s raining. If expressivists are right, then conjoining evaluative statements with the denial of being in the relevant non-cognitive state of mind should give rise to similar infelicity. However, as several theorists have pointed out, this does not seem to be the case. Statements like the following are not infelicitous: (ii) Murder is wrong but I don’t disapprove of it. In this paper, I argue that evaluative statements express the kind of states that are attributed by ‘find’-constructions in English and that these states are non-cognitive in nature. This addresses the problem of missing Moorean infelicity and, more generally, goes to show that there are linguistic facts which support expressivism about evaluative discourse.

The aim of this study is to research the impact of consumer regrets on the supply chain caused by the company’s “discount promotion.” This paper introduces the theory of anticipated regret and price discount into the supply chain. By quoting the negative utility formula of consumers’ anticipated regret under price discount, it quantitatively describes the demand function of the original product and the discount product. The model under centralized and decentralized decision making is constructed, and revenue-sharing contract is adopted to coordinate the supply chain. The conclusions are as follows. (1) Affected by the anticipated regret under the price discount, the price of the product increases first and then decreases with the regret sensitivity coefficient and consumer heterogeneity sensitivity increases. In addition, the price under the leadership structure of the manufacturer is the highest. (2) Price discounts enhance consumers’ perception of anticipated regret. Under the stimulation of price discounts, the price of products increases first and then decreases. (3) The revenue-sharing contract could not coordinate the supply chain, and the introduction of a profit-sharing mechanism is achieved the Pareto improvement of the supply chain.

Abstract. The paper challenges writings on affect that locate affective dynamism in autonomic bodily responses while positing discourse and language as "capturing" affect. To move beyond such "verticalism", the paper seeks to further an understanding of language, and semiotics more broadly, as itself affective. Drawing on participatory research conducted in Rio de Janeiro, it uses poetic expression as a paradigmatic case of the affective life of semiotics. Conceptually, it builds on Guattari's discussion of affect in connection to Hjelmslev's semiotic approach and Bakhtin's account of the process of enunciation. It is argued that semiotics play a crucial role in conjuring affective intensities, whereby expressions themselves become affective, as they modify sensory and material registers including prosody and the voice. The argument thus leads to a new understanding of the expression of affect as well as the affectivity of expressions. As expressions become affective, they draw subjects into ongoing processes of affecting and being affected. Such a view moves away from conceptions of semiotics "capturing" or even "translating" or "constructing" affect. It also displaces prevalent conceptions of "affective transmission" in terms of the circulation of physical substances body to body. Moreover, it furthers discursive and semiotic methodologies while also inviting a reconsideration of affective ontologies.

Purpose This paper aims to analyse the causes and impact of the significant mean price discounts (25 per cent for financial and 29 per cent for non-financial firms) in rights issues in the UK using a sample of 268 observations for the period of 1994 to 2012. It is observed that for non-financial companies, the issue terms announcement returns are negatively affected by the discount size, while firm size, growth prospects and good previous stock performance have a positive impact. It is also investigated which factors seem to influence managers to engage in deeper discounts when these are so disliked by investors. Evidence is provided that firms with more leverage, larger bid-ask spreads or suffering losses tend to choose deeper discounts. The authors conclude that managers balance the expected negative reaction of the market to a price discount with the risks of a costly issue failure, with these being higher when the firm experiences losses, has a higher volatility and also when the stock market climate is more adverse. Design/methodology/approach The analysis is divided in two stages. In a first step (thereafter pre-announcement), the authors evaluate the firm’s and market conditions that determine the price discount. In a second stage (post-announcement), the authors measure the market reaction to the rights issues announcement by calculating the abnormal announcement returns by cumulating the difference between daily returns (R) and expected market returns (ER) for the period of −2 to 2 relative to the announcement day. Findings The authors document that price discounts in right issues for non-financial and financial firms are determined by a set of firm-characteristics and market sentiment. They also bring evidence that price discounts are not arbitrarily determined by firm managers. Originality/value The results are consistent with the idea that despite the negative signal to investors conveyed by a significant price discount in the new shares, managers of non-financial companies still engage in substantially price-cutting.

The globalization process, with its own special tools, is affecting the surrounding world, and the religion of Islam and its ideological structures, as well as any other stream of globalization process, are affected. The globalization discourse with the central point of modernism opposes other discourses and is now struggling with the discourse of political Islam. Globalization discourse, with its special system of meaning, seeks to change the values of the political Islam discourse. One of the most striking features of globalization discourse is through the political Islam discourse, the concentration and expansion of the idea of Islamophobia. The idea of Islamophobia is one of the socio-political foundations of the domination system, which has emerged through the mechanisms of the globalization process. In this research, the data have been gathered using the documentary methodology, the theoretical framework of the research has shaped theories of the critical school and postmodern thought, and the analysis of the research data has been done using the method of critical discourse analysis.

Abstract When heavy earthquakes hit southcentral Croatia at the end of December 2020, the general readiness to help those who lost their material everything, or even loved ones, was remarkable. People and institutions all over the country (self-)organized relief actions, ranging from fundraising to packing their toolboxes and heading towards the affected regions. Based on the rich media coverage ensuing these so-called Petrinja earthquakes, named after the town that was most affected, the author analyzes the discourse of helpfulness triggered by the disaster. As she shows, this discourse revealed not only a great affective momentum regarding the survivors of the catastrophe (“the needy”), but also clearly moralist stances of what was deemed right (“the good”) as opposed to wrong (“the bad”) with regard to how people sought to help.

Abstract Since their inception in the years following World War II, American puberty videos have discursively manufactured affective distress in several generations of on-screen children. The patterns of talk found in eight films from 1947 to 2016 demonstrate that affect may de-link itself from specific talk and diffuse into a broader discourse through the recirculation of parallel structures in new semiotic spaces. I use queer critical discourse analysis (Jones & Collins 2020) and language socialization theory (Ochs & Schieffelin 2011) to argue that puberty videos first manufacture distress in the on-screen child before swiftly introducing a trusted adult to mitigate and recast distress as a normal part of growing up. Further, puberty videos reify cis- / heteronormativity and reproductive futurity in adulthood as the necessary outcomes of development. This paper explores the connection between affect and temporality in talk by critically attending to the historical stability of American puberty video discourse.

This article explores affect, discourse and emotion in national life. Drawing on recent thinking on discourse and affect, alongside previous work on nation and communities of practice, we focus on the print media’s use of Anzac Day in Aotearoa New Zealand, as a site through which settler identity and cultural hegemony are reproduced. One hegemonic interpretive repertoire is observed throughout, that Anzac Day is a sacred day of respectful remembrance. Within this frame, a series of associated affective-discursive positions are deployed covering issues that range from inclusion and exclusion, to conformity and dissent. We argue that this repertoire and its associated positions constitute citizens engaging with the day as a homogeneous group of national subjects, bound together as a particular kind of affected community. This imagined community and the affective practices attributed to it, however, largely ignore the bicultural makeup of Aotearoa New Zealand, narrowing down the diverse range of potential emotional positions to a just a few. Popular journalism fails readers and limits debate though its thin portrayals of community, legitimate affect and engaged citizenship. National life is impoverished when print media lack the cultural competence necessary to effectively engage in broader debates and political discourse.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate factors affecting the relationship between consumers’ brand trust and purchase intentions after exposure to targeted mobile app ads during holiday periods, including the mediating roles of consumers’ ad attitudes, different discount levels and their interactions; and the moderating roles of the anticipated gain (loss) (i.e. access to discounts) associated with mobile app usage (non-usage). Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 559 respondents who were randomly assigned to six groups based on a 2 (ad type: new, holiday-themed vs regular product) × 3 (promotion level: 0% vs 20% vs 40%) between-subjects design. Regression analysis and structural equation modeling techniques are used to test the hypothesized mediators and moderators. Findings Consumers with high brand trust are likely to purchase both new and regular products. Consumers with low brand trust are most responsive to mobile app ads for regular products when offered a high discount. Ad attitudes across all discount rates and product types mediate the relationship between brand trust and purchase intentions; the anticipated gain associated with using a mobile app (i.e. access to discounts) moderates the effect of attitudes toward ads promoting regular products when a high discount is offered. Originality/value To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is one of the first studies to explore how interactions among important factors in contexts involving mobile apps and holiday promotions influence and mediate the relationship between brand trust and purchase intentions. This study also reveals an important boundary condition that moderates consumers’ responses to targeted mobile app ads in the context of holiday marketing.

Results indicate that brand premium and discount varies across private, national, and store brands and that brand premium varies across meat cuts carrying the same brand name. This study contextualizes replay within the discourse of sport media. Drawing on discourse as theory, the author articulates how replay functions within the sportscast as adjudication, arguably the most compelling yet contentious aspect of the live sportscast. Not only does replay function within sport media discourse, but it also operates within a broader cultural context. Given sport media’s key locus within the entertainment industry, the use of replay is a key technological innovation that has brought even more consolidation and coordination between sport media and the sport leagues and organizations. Replay is media’s contribution to maintaining the veneer of integrity through a quest for certitude. As an analytical strategy, the intertextuality of replay provides an opportunity to interrogate whose interests are being served and consolidated in the mobilization of this technology within affective economies that satisfy a neoliberal sensibility.

This article explores a kinship between aviation and cinema through the intersection of affective gender, dreams, and flying as expressed across newspaper accounts of women and flight, star discourse related to Mabel Normand and Mary Pickford, and the sexualized scenes of aerial joyriding in Abram Room’s Bed and Sofa (1927) and Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks’s Plane Crazy (1928). It argues that in order to fully understand the aviation-cinema nexus, we must dislodge it from its masculinist heritage within high modernist myths. Key to this dislodging is the reinsertion of gendered associations of the body, affect, and the senses into the modernist myth of aerial vision as a weightless, abstracted regime of the eye. The article theoretically frames this historical exploration of aviation and cinema as an exemplary case study for an expanded rethinking of affect, reception, and the senses in Miriam Hansen’s notion of cinema as vernacular modernism.

Abstract:

The main purpose of this paper is to present the specific character of educational discourse in terms of the critical (CDA) and critically-oriented discourse analysis (E. Laclau and Ch. Mouffe) and to identify issues and problems that affect research concerning the discursive construction of identity. My main subjects of interest, and the key notions for the discourse-oriented pedagogy, are identity and knowledge. I will try to show how in spite of the relevance of those two notions, the use of discourse analysis in pedagogical research forces us to transcend the narrowly defined disciplinary boundaries. When it is analyzed in a critical manner the thing we call “educational discourse” expands considerably, affecting the scope of both theoretical and research-oriented interests of pedagogy itself. With regard to identity and knowledge, I try to show the inadequacies of the often employed theories of E. Laclau, Ch. Mouffe and M. Foucaul, for analysis of identification processes. I argue that those processes may be successfully analyzed using the CDA framework. The issue of structural constraints that is addressed in CDA, in combination with Laclau’s theory of affective investment allow for a more comprehensive study of the conditions of possibility of the processes of identification.
