Abstract:
In this paper, quantum discords in a special kind of states, i.e., Werner states by local quantum operations and classical communication (LQCC) protocols (WLQCC states), are studied. Nineteen parameters to quantify the quantum discords are reduced to four parameters in terms of properties of Werner states and quantum discord. In the case of orthogonal projective measures, analytic expression of quantum discords in WLQCC states is analytically worked out. Some properties of the quantum discord in the WLQCC states are obtained, especially the variation relations between the quantum discords and the parameters characterizing the WLQCC states. By virtue of numerical computations, quantum discords in a Werner state before and after LQCC protocols are compared. It is found that quantum discord in any WLQCC state cannot exceed that in the original Werner state.

Abstract:
In this paper, we are concerned with the non-commutativity measure of quantum discord. We first present an explicit expression of the non-commutativity measure of quantum discord in the two-qubit case. Then we compare the geometric quantum discords for two dynamic models with their non-commutativity measure of quantum discords. Furthermore, we show that the results conducted by the non-commutativity measure of quantum discord are different from those conducted by both or one of the Hilbert-Schmidt distance discord and trace distance discord. These intrinsic differences indicate that the non-commutativity measure of quantum discord is incompatible with at least one of the well-known geometric quantum discords in the quantitative and qualitative representation of quantum correlations.

Abstract:
The investigation of quantum discord has mostly focused on two-qubit systems due to the complicated minimization involved in quantum discord for high-dimensional states. In this work, three geometric discords are studied for the thermal state in a two-qutrit system with various couplings, external magnetic fields, and temperatures as well, where the entanglement measured in terms of the generalized negativity is calculated for reference. It is shown that three geometric discords are more robust against temperature and magnetic field than the entanglement negativity. However, all four quantities exhibit a similar behavior at lower temperature and weak magnetic field. Remarkably, three geometric discords at finite temperature reveal the phenomenon of double sudden changes at different magnetic fields while the negativity does not. Moreover, the hierarchy among three discords is discussed. Those adjustable discords with the varied coupling, temperature, and magnetic field are useful for the understanding of quantum correlations in high-dimensional states and quantum information processing.

Abstract:
Due to some ambiguity in the definition of mutual Tsallis entropy in classical probability theory, its generalization to quantum theory is discussed and, as a consequence, two types of generalized quantum discords, called q-discords, are defined in terms of quantum Tsallis entropy. Both q-discords for two-qubit Werner and isotropic states are determined and compared and it is shown that one of them is non-negative, at least for states under investigation, for all q > 0. Finally, an analytical expression for q-discord of certain family of two-qubit X-states is presented. Using this example, we show that both types of q-discords can take negative values for some q > 1, hence their use as correlations measures is rather limited.

Abstract:
The characterization of quantum discord (QD) and geometric discord (GD) has mostly concentrated on two-qubit states since the minimization in both discords is a daunting task for high-dimensional states. Numerical calculations of both discords are carried out for a generic bipartite state. When one-dimensional orthogonal projectors for a local measurement on n-dimensional Hilbert space are realized by the generators and the Euler angles of SU (n), the optimal measurements have a figure of merit that includes n(n - 1) Euler parameters. As an representative example, such projectors and two kinds of algorithms are used to estimate both discords for two-qutrit mixed states in recent literature. The generalized negativity as a measure of quantum entanglement is calculated for reference purposes. For those states with one parameter the discords and the negativity respectively display the nonlinear and the linear function of the parameter, with different turning points. However, they are positively correlated in the suitable ranges of the parameter for those states. The hierarchy of those quantities is discussed as well. Those shed new light on the understanding of QDs and quantum entanglement of mixed states in high-dimensions.

Abstract:
Family discords or quarrels are considered normal and ordinary. However, the level and intensity of the discords and disputes have led to incidences of fratricide and sororicide. In the case of fratricide (the killing of one’s brother) and sororicide (the killing of one’s sister), the escalating number of incidences as reported in the media requires proper intervention by the relevant parties. The aim of this paper is to review published articles on family discords and violence, particularly on incidences of fratricide and sororicide. The findings and implications of the findings will be discussed in this review paper. Keywords: fratricide; sororicide; discord; family environmentISSN: 2398-4287© 2017. The Authors. Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore the synergies and discords in attitudes towards research data management (RDM) drivers and barriers for both researchers and institutions. Previous work has studied RDM from a single perspective, but not compared researchers’ and institutions’ perspectives. We carried out qualitative interviews with researchers as well as institutional representatives to identify drivers and barriers, and to explore synergies and discords of both towards RDM. We mapped these to a data lifecycle model and found that the contradictions occur at early stages in the lifecycle of data and the synergies occur at the later stages. This means that for future successful RDM, the points of discord at the start of the data lifecycle must be overcome. Finally, we conclude by proposing key recommendations that could help institutions when addressing both researcher and institutional RDM needs.

Abstract In this work, we investigate the dynamics of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (EUR) and quantum correlation quantified by entropic discord and geometric discord within the Markovian reservoir and non-Markovian reservoir. Particularly, when the initial state is a pure sate or mixed state the EUR gradually increases during the evolution at first, but subsequently tends to stable in the long-time limit. On other hand, for the separable state the EUR almost keeps constant. In contrast, quantum discord decay asymptotically to zero for all types of initial states. As an application, we prove that both two quantum discords witnessed by the EUR are determined by the version of discord chosen, which regardless of the reservoir.

Alexander, Helen. "Happy harmonies and disturbing discords : Scott Bradley's music for MGM's cartoons." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2015. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/6809/.

Full text
Abstract:
The musical scores of composer Scott Bradley for the cartoons of the Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer studio form the basis of this dissertation, which uses close observation and analysis to address some of the pertinent technical and cultural issues that have been raised in the literature of musicology and of cartoon studies. Bradley’s collaborations with three sets of directors are discussed separately in order to highlight three academic concerns. An investigation into the various practical necessities and cultural influences on Bradley’s work with directors Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising sets the historical scene at the beginning of the composer’s career. I examine the pervading style of these cartoons and their music in order to reveal some of the personal preoccupations that Bradley’s work would exhibit throughout his life. And I interrogate the general musicological approach to the audiovisual pairing and cartoon scoring practices in order to re-evaluate close synchronization as a variegated technique capable of diverse and nuanced effects. Director Tex Avery and Bradley have independently been considered by various scholars for their adoption of modernist techniques. Their collaboration produced works that challenge the distinction of popular entertainment and modernist art, in a way that is shown to be both multifaceted and difficult to quantify. The position of their cartoons in terms of more frequently recognized modern artforms and its own tradition of slapstick comedy complicate any simple distinction between the two fields. The directorial team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera produced cartoons that amalgamated some of the techniques learned from the other animators in this study. As well as being the most famous of MGM’s cartoon series, their Tom and Jerry cartoons were the most consistent in terms of style. The comic formula of this series is examined from the relatively new academic area of ‘comic timing’. I explore the possible effect of a constant musical presence on the audience perception of pacing and thereby add a new perspective to an aspect of comedy that has not before been considered with reference to music.

Full text
Abstract:
The participation of free men in the movements led by rebellious slaves sets a complex problem in terms of the importance of the freedom/slavery antinomy in the thinking of the ancient Greeks and Romans. The chattel-slaves, defined as things, were represented as foreigners. The slaves served as the ‘Others’ against which all citizens, from the rich slave owners to the poor artisans and peasants, defined themselves as a unity. The contrast between the slave and the citizen made it possible to shade, from an ideological point of view, the relations of exploitation and the differences of wealth between the citizens. This tended to suppress the social conflict between them. Despite the significant legal and political differences between the free and the enslaved, and the ideological representation that was made of it, the sources narrate that some free men not only did not repress the rebel slaves in the great servile revolts, in solidarity with their rich fellow citizens, but they plundered these last ones or joined the fugitives. In the present work, we study the participation of impoverished free men (aporoi) in the late-republican servile wars and the relationship they established with the rebel slaves, a problem that has sometimes been neglected by the historiography or only partially treated. Some historiographical currents neglected the participation of the aporoi in the servile wars, and others overestimate it. In opposition, we revalue a line of investigation that, on the one hand, maintains the servile nature of the insurrections, since, the main role was apparently of the rebel slaves, but on the other hand affirms that the participation of free men was an important element. We believe that this point of view is the most appropriate for the testimonies of the sources and we contribute elements to rethink it. Those elements include: to focus the study within the framework of the classic democratic imaginary that will tend to promote the citizen solidarity facing the servile threat; to analyse each revolt individually to evaluate the relationship between the subaltern sectors; and understand the participation of the aporoi, either its parallel rebellion or its inflow to the rebel ranks, as the symptom of tensions within the citizen body that can be defined in terms of stáseis (civil discords), of which the servile revolts nurtured from the beginning. Therefore, the participation of the aporoi is a factor, among others, that helped the growth of the servile revolts. In the case of the first Sicilian revoit and the revoit of Spartacus, we maintain the existence of a conjunctural alliance between the rebellious slaves and the aporoi .In contrast, in the second Sicilian revoit, we defend the interpretative line that supports the idea that there was no relationship between the two groups, but rather two parallel revolts: the free poor simply took advantage of the opportunity in the servile revoit to plunder the properties of the rich. Our work attempts to nuance the most rigid theoretical views that affirm the absolute incommunicability between plebeians and slaves. There were occasions, albeit unusual, where the abyss that separated the free man from the slave did not seem to be so great, at least not to the aporoi, who ignored the imaginary that pitted them against the dishonored social dead. The servile wars were one of those cases

Bensaada, Merzeghe. "Perception de la parole télévisuelle en Algérie. Dissonances et dyscommunication." Thesis, Montpellier 3, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013MON30064/document.

Abstract:
TV programs based on words/debate/discussion appear to us as a space of crystallization of the linguistic and identity conflicts which the Algerian society knows. They show and amplify the dysfunctions of television and public communication in Algeria. This study consists in trying to understand the contexts and modalities of articulation of the psychosocial and ideological determinations by exploring situations of exchange and transmission which seem to reveal a kind of communicational discomfort on television. By analysing the word as a marker of identity and psychology, we have tried to identify symptoms of "dyscommunication". The expressions of the latter appear as the consequence of a politico-ideological failure and the indicator of an identity cleavage between the speaking subjects/enunciators. The problem which we raise has to do wit the phenomenon of maladjustment of the language used on television, which seems to influence the (both linguistic and paralinguistic) capacity of expression and to weaken the emotional and phatic potential of the speakers on television. Our observations and our investigation show that the receivers/viewers are sensitive to the emotional messages and to implicit cultural signs conveyed by mimogestual emblems, paraverbal language, pronunciation, and that these are determining factors in the quality of a communicative interaction, on television as in everyday life. Language alone is not enough to convey the totality of the message. The televiewer is very attentive to the "cooperative statements" and to processes of mutual recognition, as well as to the sociocultural and emotional skills which accompany and naturally emerge from endogenous speech

Jang, Sung-Min. "Discours philosophique et discours spirituel chez Pascal." Poitiers, 1992. http://www.theses.fr/1992POIT5005.

Full text
Abstract:
For pascal, the word "philosopher" is reserved for the philosophical schools of antiquiry. From that point, talking about philosophical discourse pertaining directly to pascal, one would be eventually taking somme risk. Pascal always wanted to keep his distance from what he called academics, sceptics, stoics, dismissing them and declaring them useless. He also accuses descartes a sbeing usless and uncertain. Even if he recatures in philosophy the concepts, the problems, one mustn't bring pascal's apologetic to a philosophical discourse. It's spiritual discourse that does not have any other premise than the religious experience. One must understand that the full range of the apology of the christian religion, it is not to provewhat descartes did, but to persuade humain beings that it is reasonable to believe. And at that moment, the exact range of pascal's discourse appeares clealy in contrast to the discourse of the philosophers. Thus, pascal rejects this entire notion for it to substitute another discourse, and the other discourse is the discourse of persuasion

Abstract:
A. Becquer.
The thesis, entitled "discourse of love and poetic discourse : gustavo adolfo becquer", is based on textual analisis and the interpretation of the spanish romantic poet becquer's poems and his basic text introduccion sinfonica. Other works of his are also examined : cartas literarias a una mujer, cartas desde mi celda, some art criticisms, some drawings shows taken from the album of los borbones en pelota. This analisis shows two unrelated worlds of knowledge : the feminine and the act of creating throughout a poetry that is a reflexion about the poetical act itself. So, there is a discourse of love which is adressed to the feminine and a poetic discourse which comes out of the feminine. The first volume studies this poetic discourse and in the first part, becquer's concept of the poetic creation appears. Then, in the second part, the different approaches to his writing is related to painting and music. On one hand the texts and verses are analyzed in relation to those two arts and on the other, some drawings of los borbones en pelota are examined

Meyran, Daniel. Montpellier 3, 1988. http://www.theses.fr/1988MON30019.

Full text
Abstract:
From a theoretical pattern, the ch. S. Peirce's semiotic we suggest to describe and analyse the rodolfo usigli's signs of theatrical speech act, into a period historically given 1930-1950. We characterise the usigli's signs of theatrical speech as theater signs as society signs counterpart, and we describe them as icon, index and symbol that operate with semiosis (meaning constitution) inducing a sign-representamen an interpretant - sign, and an object - sign. This process characte- rizes the three moments : production, representation (performance) and interpretation. The operating theatrical sign and the semiosis reveal in the works of usigli a theatrical practice that she shows a theatrical object codified that is closely connected with the society under interpretant pressure. Like this, the usigli's theatrical speech talks the mexican lower and middle class speech and explains the playwgright's ideological function

Abstract:
The definition and extraction of actionable anomalous discords, i.e. pattern outliers, is a challenging problem in data analysis. It raises the crucial issue of identifying criteria that would render a discord more insightful than another one. In this paper, we propose an approach to address this by introducing the concept of prominent discord. The core idea behind this new concept is to identify dependencies among discords of varying lengths. How can we identify a discord that would be prominent? We propose an ordering relation, that ranks discords and we seek a set of prominent discords with respect to this ordering. Our contributions are 1) a formal definition, ordering relation and methods to derive prominent discords based on Matrix Profile techniques, and 2) their evaluation over large contextual climate data, covering 110 years of monthly data. The approach is generic and its pertinence shown over historical climate data.

Abstract:
Abstract New Product Development involves team members coming together and working in teams to come up with innovative solutions to problems resulting in new products. They need to be creative as a team, debate extensively and come up with a breadth of ideas to solve the given customer need and problem. They also need to be very efficient in their teamwork and work cohesively. These two traits require the teams to have a divergent and a convergent thinking simultaneously. There needs to be a good balance. The team dynamics invariably result in conflicts among team members. While some amount of conflict (ideational conflict) is desirable in NPD teams to be creative as a group, relational conflicts (or discords among members) could be detrimental to teamwork. Team communication truly reflects these tensions and team dynamics. In this research study and paper, we explore the social network analysis of team communication to define and identify computational patterns of interaction and compare them with team’s assessed conflict level. We’ve identified and defined four distinctive patterns of interaction (Central member pattern, Subgroup and Aloof member pattern, Isolate member pattern and Pendant pattern). These patterns are then correlated to the level of conflict in teams. The patterns are found to capture the signatures of high and low to medium conflict in teams with a high level of accuracy.

RESOLVE Network, December 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.37805/fs2020.7.cbags.fr.
