Abstract:
The work is aimed at experimental substantiation of dipentene (dl-limonene) extraction from pyrolysis liquid obtained by pyrolysis in the lead melt of tires of different brands. Pyrolysis liquid was isolated under conditions that reduce the sulfur content and increase the proportion of dipentene in the direct-contact reactor in the lead melt and in the temperature range of 400-470 °C. A method for extracting dipentene from pyrolytic liquid by distillation at normal pressure, in vacuum, and two-stage distillation (first with water vapor, then vacuum distillation) to obtain fractions enriched with dipentene was tested. The results obtained demonstrate that at this stage of the study the chemically unstable fraction of polyene hydrocarbons in the pyrolysis liquid is actively polymerized during distillation. The chromatographic analysis of the initial samples and distillation fractions was carried out, which showed that the feedstock contains more than 100 chemicals with a dipentene content of not more than 17%. Based on the evaluation of the obtained quantitative characteristics, distillation parameters providing the maximum yield of dipentene were determined. Under the proposed conditions, the enrichment of individual fractions with dipentene by ~4-6 times compared to its initial content in pyrolysis liquid was achieved. During distillation in vacuum, a fraction with a yield of 19.6% with a content of dipentene up to 40.8% was isolated, a narrow fraction with an yield of 4.8% with a maximum content of dipentene of 49.9% was isolated. During distillation with steam and subsequent vacuum distillation with a total yield of 17%, fractions with a dipentene content of 24-36 % were isolated. Further concentration of dipentene will obviously require more complex chemical synthesis and fractionation operations. The data obtained may be of interest in the development of a new process of pyrolysis of tires in the melt of heavy metals (lead), improving its efficiency by identifying economically important components for the production of commercial products.

Abstract:
Tire wear particles (TWPs) are generated by friction between the road and the tire. TWPs are one of the major microplastics found in environmental samples, such as road dust, particulate matter (PM), and sediment. TWP contents in environmental samples are generally analyzed using the pyrolysis technique. Tire tread compounds of heavy vehicles are usually composed of natural rubber (NR). Isoprene and dipentene are the principal pyrolysis products of NR, and dipentene is employed as the key marker for the determination of the TWP contents. In this study, an NR abrasion specimen was thermally aged, and an abrasion test was performed to obtain the wear particles. The influence of the wear particle size and thermal aging on the pyrolysis behavior of NR was investigated. The isoprene/dipentene ratio exponentially increased as the wear particle size decreased, and it was also increased by the thermal aging of the abrasion specimen. The increased isoprene/dipentene ratio by thermal aging was explained by increasing the crosslink density. Using the relationship between the wear particle size and the isoprene/dipentene ratio, it is possible to estimate the isoprene/dipentene ratio for very small TWP such as PM. The experimental results concluded that the wear particle size and thermal aging affect the formation of the key pyrogenic products, and the influencing factors should be considered for the quantification of TWP contents in the environmental samples.

Abstract:
The need to regulate the non-exhaust particulate matter (PM) emissions from vehicles has been discussed worldwide due to the bad environmental impact and the toxicity to the human body. In-depth studies have been precisely conducted on the analysis of the non-exhaust particulate matters, in particular, the amount of tire, brake and road wear particles and their proportion in the atmosphere. In this study, the influence of tire and road wear particles (TRWP) on PM in the atmosphere was investigated with tire and PM samples. The PM samples suspended in the atmosphere were collected with a high-volume sampler equipped with a quartz filter. Additionally, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metal components in tire rubber were analyzed as markers by pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (pyrolysis–GC/MS), GC/MS, and inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry (ICP/MS). More vinylcyclohexene was detected than dipentene in the markers measured in the samples of tires equipped with vehicles driving on the road, while more dipentene was measured in total suspended particles (TSP) samples. Among the PAHs in tire samples, pyrene exhibited the highest concentration. Benzo(b)fluoranthene showed the highest concentration in the TSP samples. Among the metals, the highest concentration was zinc in all tire samples and calcium in TSP samples.

Abstract:
Alternative strategies to treat multidrug resistant pathogens are indispensable due to the scarcity of new therapeutically effective antibiotics. The present work was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial effects of essential oils extracted from Citrus sinensis, locally known as “Mousami”, against various important pathogens as well as their phytochemical characterisation. Essential oils were extracted from Cit. sinensis peels by the steam distillation method, and a 0.23% yield was obtained. Chemical composition of the extracted essential oil was analysed through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The analysis revealed that the Cit. sinensis essential oil was composed of a variety of chemical compounds; mostly are monoterpene hydrocarbon and 0.62% of limonene (dipentene), as well as oxygenated monoterpenes and 0.50% limonene oxide, also known as eucalyptol. Standard reference microorganisms, i.e., E. coli (ATCC 25922), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Salmonella Typhi (ATCC 24682), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633), Aspergillus flavus (ATCC 204304), and Candida albicans (ATCC 10231) were used, and the in vitro antimicrobial effect of Cit. sinensis essential oils was observed against these strains by disc diffusion method. Statistical analysis of the resulting data was done by using Least Significant Difference (LSD) method and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to assess the significant association between biological activities of essential oils at p < 0.05. Using microbroth dilution assay, maximum sensitivity was exhibited by E. coli and Can. albicans among the tested microbial strains. The zones of inhibition were significantly different, having diameters of 34.0 ± 1.5 and 55.0 ± 0.5 mm for the said bacterial and fungal strains, respectively; and their MIC values were 0.0007 ± 0.0001 and 0.0007 ± 0.0006 mg/ml, respectively. Thin layer chromatography-bioautography (TLC-bioautography) showed dipentene as biologically most active antimicrobial component. Hence, it was established that broad spectrum antimicrobial effect against important microorganisms was elucidated by essential oil extracts from Cit. sinensis that may be used as a natural antimicrobial to treat various infections caused by pathogens of public health interest.

Highlight Research 1. There were 26 active compounds from water clover leaf extract that were identified using GC-MS 2. In silico approach was used to screen potential anticholesterolemic compounds from water clover leaf extract 3. Anticholesterolemic compounds from water clover leaf extract were interacted with HMG-CoA reductase receptors and compared to native ligand and medicine 4. There were 6 potential anticholesterolemic compounds identified from water clover leaf extract Abstract Water clover (Marsilea crenata C. Presl.) is a widely available plant in Indonesia and often utilized as a traditional food ingredient. This plant is also traditionally believed to contain compounds that can decrease blood cholesterol. This study aimed to determine the compounds in water clover which have the potential to decrease blood cholesterol through inhibition of the HMG-CoA enzyme using in silico approach. This research was done in several steps, i.e., extraction using ethyl acetate solvent, identification of chemical compounds using GC-MS, and screening of compounds with potential to be anticholesterolemic agent through in silico using PyRx 0.8 (AutoDockVina and Open Babel GUI version 2.4.1), Discovery Studio Visualizer 2021, and PyMOL™ 1.7.4.5 software. Results showed that ethyl acetate extract of water clover contained 26 compounds, 6 of which were potential to be anticholesterolemic agent, i.e., phytol, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 2,4-di- tert-butylphenol, diethyl phthalate, 1,2,3,4-tetramethylbenzene, and dipentene. Binding affinity values of those six compounds were lower than the native ligand of the HMG-CoA reductase, although still higher compared to pravastatin. The binding affinity value of pravastatin was -7.13 kcal/mol and the binding affinity value of 3-methyl glutaric acid as a native ligand was -5.33 kcal/mol, meanwhile, the lowest binding affinity value of compounds in water clover was phytol (-6.37 kcal/mol) and the highest was dipentene (-5.40 kcal/mol). Through in silico study, there were six compounds from water clover leaf’s ethyl acetate extract that could inhibit the HMG-CoA reductase. Therefore, water clover leaf has the potential to become an anticholesterolemic functional food ingredient.

Abstract:
The terpenic resins are polymers of low molecular weight hydrocarbons, obtained by cationic polymerization of terpenes. These products are used in the adhesives, sealants and wax coating industries. Commercial adhesive resins are prepared from monoterpenes -the main ones are α-pinene, β-pinene and dipentene. The softening point and molecular weight of polyterpene resins are critical for their main use (adherence). Its adhesive behavior results from the relationship of the softening point with the molecular weight. At the commercial level, polyterpene resins are produced by polymerization of terpene monomers. Batch and continuous systems are used. The composition of an adhesive requires a wide knowledge of the materials available and the specific requirements of its application. The most common types of adhesives are Pressure Sensitive Adhesives, Hot-melt Adhesives and Structural Adhesives.

Abstract:
Particulate matters (PMs) such as PM10 and PM2.5 were collected at a bus stop and were analyzed using pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry to identify organic polymeric materials in them. The major pyrolysis products of the PM samples were isoprene, toluene, styrene, dipentene, and 1-alkenes. The pyrolysis products generated from the PM samples were identified using reference polymeric samples such as common rubbers (natural rubber, butadiene rubber, and styrene-butadiene rubber), common plastics (polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and poly(ethylene terephthalate)), plant-related components (bark, wood, and leaf), and bitumen. The major sources of the principal polymeric materials in the PM samples were found to be the abrasion of the tire tread and asphalt pavement, plant-related components, and lint from polyester fabric. The particles produced by the abrasion of the tire tread and asphalt pavement on the road were non-exhaustive sources, while the plant-related components and lint from polyester fabric were inflowed from the outside.

Abstract A novel bio-based flame-retardant thermosetting vinyl ester resin monomer was synthesized from castor oil. The chemical structures of the monomer was characterized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. In order to improve its rigidity and expand its application in the field of bio-based materials, it was mixed with certain proportions of another reactive bio-based VER monomer, which had rigid and strong polar groups, and then a series of copolymers were prepared with thermal curing method. Then their tensile property, hardness, morphology of fractured surface, flame retardant property, DMA and thermostability were all investigated. The results indicated that the copolymers had relatively high tensile strength of 11.2 MPa, and the limiting oxygen index is above 23% in all prepared copolymers. DMA demonstrates that the glass transition temperature of the cured resins is up to 56.1°C. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the copolymers have excellent thermal stability.

Abstract:
This research considers two growth models; asymptotic growth model and logistic growth model. Both models were compared to establish a better model for modelling and prediction based on a Chemist data on the percentage concentration of isomers versus time for each Isomerization of α-Pinene at 189.50C. Results from the growth curve shows a non-linear relationship between the response (time of isomerization) and the independent variables (percentage of concentration) for all the four isomers considered. Based on the four isomers four different quadratic regressions of second-order were fitted. The problem of the initial parameters was addressed by second-order regression techniques since the models considered have three parameters to be estimated before the iterative approach was used. Estimation of parameters was done using modified version of the Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm in Gretl statistical software. The results from both models were compared based on Aikaike Information Criteri (AIC), Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC), Mean Squared Error (MSE) and R-square. The Asymptotic Growth Model was identified to be a more adequate model for modelling and predicting growth patterns for three isomers (Dipentene, Pyronene and Dimer) while logistic growth model was seen to be a better model for predicting growth patterns of one isomer (Allo-Ocimene). This study will go a long way in directing Chemists and researchers in that field in choosing the appropriate model for their research.

The EOs of five effective plants were screened initially against the house fly (Musca domestica L.). Their chemical constituent was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The main components of Boesenbergia rotunda (Zingiberaceae) rhizome, Curcuma longa (Zingiberaceae) rhizome, Citrus hystrix (Rutaceae) fruit peel, Ocimum gratissimum (Lamiaceae) seed, and Zanthoxylum limonella (Rutaceae) fruit were δ-3-caren (35.25%), β-turmerone (51.68%), β-pinene (26.56%), p-cumic aldehyde (58.21%), and dipentene (60.22%), respectively. The screening test revealed that the three most effective plant EOs were from B. rotunda, C. longa and O. gratissimum, which were selected for the combination with two pyrethroid insecticides (permethrin and deltamethrin), in order to enhance their synergistic efficacy against the blow flies, Chrysomya megacephala Fabricius, Chrysomya rufifacies Macquart, and Lucilia cuprina Wiedemann, and the house fly. Synergistic action was presented in almost all of the flies tested with permenthrin/deltamethrin/EOs mixtures. It was interesting that the combination of deltamethrin with three EOs showed a synergistic effect on all of the tested flies. However, an antagonistic effect was observed in C. megacephala and M. domestica treated with permethrin-B. rotunda and C. megacephala treated with permethrin-O. gratissimum. The LD50 of insecticides decreased when combined with plant EOs. This alternative strategy will be helpful in developing a formula for effective fly control management.

Abstract:
Natural herb Ajwain, Trachyspermum ammi (L.) Sprague is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the highly valued medicinally important family, Apiaceae the essential oil from the fruits [7] are the phenols, mainly thymol and some carvacrol. The Indian Pharmacopoeia requires ajowan oil to contain not less than 40 per cent thymol. The remainder of the oil is called 'thymene'. Thymene, which constitutes c.45 per cent of the oil, has the following composition: p-cymene, 50-55; gterpinene, 30-35; a- and ß-pinenes, 4-5; and dipentene, 4-6%. Presence of minute 'amounts of camphene, myrcene and D3-carene is also reported. Kapoor is a tree of many faces as it is a giant, stately forest tree, native of the wet forests of tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. The species Camphora, refer to camphor, an important chemical constituent present in the oil found in the tissues of tree. The botanical name is derived from Greek language. It derived from the word 'kinnamomon' which means spice. This herb is recorded in Sanskrit also. This is also used by Egyptians as early 1485 BC for embalming purposes. Camphor tree is native to China, India, Mongolia, Japan and Taiwan and a variety of this fragrant evergreen tree is grown in Southern United States; especially in FloridaMenthol, Thymol, Phenol, Salicylic acid and Naphthol are amongst the fragrant chemical constituents obtained from this plant. Campher, Campherol, Cineol, Camphene, dipentene, terpineol, candinene, safrole, camphorace, laurolitsine, reticuline etc. Menthol is a naturally occurring monoterpene alcohol that is extracted from oil of peppermint, corn mint, or other mint plants. It is known for its minty, cooling odor, and taste , Various constituents of peppermint oil are limonene (1.0-5.0%), cineole (3.5-14.0%), menthone (14.0-32.0%), menthofuran (1.0-9.0%), isomenthone (1.510.0%), menthyl acetate (2.8-10.0%), isopulegol (0.2%), menthol (55.0%), pulegone (4.0%) and carvone (max. 1.0%). All three herbs gives relief from cough and cold, throat irritation and treating bronchitis.

Abstract:
Odorant binding proteins (OBPs) play an important role in insect olfaction. The jujube bud weevil Pachyrhinus yasumatsui (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a major pest of Zizyphus jujuba in northern China. In the present study, based on the antennal transcriptome, an OBP gene of P. yasumatsui (PyasOBP2) was cloned by reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR). Expression profile analyses by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) revealed that PyasOBP2 was highly expressed in the antennae of both male and female P. yasumatsui adults, while its expression was negligible in other tissues. PyasOBP2 was prokaryotically expressed, and purified by Ni-NTA resin. The fluorescence competitive binding assays with 38 plant volatiles from Z. jujuba showed that PyasOBP2 could bind with a broad range of plant volatiles, and had strongest binding capacities to host-plant volatiles like ethyl butyrate (Ki = 3.02 μM), 2-methyl-1-phenylpropene (Ki = 4.61 μM) and dipentene (Ki = 5.99 μM). The three dimensional structure of PyasOBP2 was predicted by homology modeling, and the crystal structure of AgamOBP1 (PDB ID: 2erb) was used as a template. The molecular docking results indicated that the amino acid residue Phe114 of PyasOBP2 could form hydrogen bonds or hydrophobic interactions with some specific ligands, so this residue might play a key role in perception of host plant volatiles. Our results provide a basis for further investigation of potential functions of PyasOBP2, and development of efficient monitoring and integrated pest management strategies of P. yasumatsui.

Abstract:
Abstract Toxocara canis (Werner, 1782) is a zoonotic nematode commonly parasitizing dogs worldwide with great public health importance as the aetiological agent of human toxocariasis. In this respect, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of six disinfectant products commonly used in kennels, veterinary clinics and as household cleaning products on the embryogenesis and viability of T. canis eggs. The composition of active ingredients in these commercial disinfectants was sodium hypochlorite (A); a mix of N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecylpropan-1.3-diamine and didecyldimethylammonium chloride (B); sodium dichloroisocyanurate dehydrate (C); a mix of glutaraldehyde, quaternary ammonium compounds, benzyl-c12-18-alkyldimethyl and chlorides (D); a mix of 2-propanol, ethanol, benzalkonium chloride and glucoprotamin (E); a mix of pentapotassium bis (peroxymonosulphate) bis (sulphate), sodium C10-13-alkylbenzenesulphonate, malic acid, sulphamidic acid, sodium toluenesulphonate, dipotassium peroxodisulphate and dipentene (F). After dilution, the tested disinfectants had the maximal concentration recommended by the manufacturer in order to achieve a biocidal effect. Each product was tested on approximately 10,000 T. canis eggs, having five different contact times (5, 10, 15, 30, 60 min). Three replicates were tested for each diluted disinfectant and for each contact time. After the treatment, eggs were washed and incubated in distilled water at 27 °C for 2 weeks. None of the tested products had a significant inhibitory effect on the embryogenesis and viability of T. canis eggs, regardless of the contact time. Moreover, after 2 weeks, in all tested samples, eggs containing motile infective larvae were identified, showing that routinely used disinfectants do not eliminate risk of infection by T. canis.
