Abstract:
The Trojan legend becomes a literary narrative throughout Antiquity expanding and modifying its different episodes. The study of this legend in Dioscorus of Aphrodito’s autograph poems (from 6th century BC), allows us to grasp the evolution and configuration of the Trojan canon, the classical works still available in his time, and other sources used as a model for his compositions.

Abstract:
AbstractThe neglected area of later Greek syntax is explored here with reference to the future optative. This form of the verb first appeared early in the classical age but virtually disappeared during the Hellenistic era. Under the influence of Atticism it reappeared in later literary texts, and this paper is concerned largely with its revival in late legal and epistolary texts on papyrus from Egypt. It is used mainly in set legal phrases of remote future conditions, but we also see it in letters to express wishes (again, largely formulaic) for the future, both of which uses are foreign to Attic Greek. Finally, the future optative's appearance in conjugations on grammatical papyri from Egypt is used to demonstrate the form's presence in education even at the end of the classical world there, with the archive of Dioscorus of Aphrodito uniquely showing both this theoretical knowledge of it and examples of its application in legal documents.

Abstract:

This study examines the church policy of Emperor Basilisk (475–476) and offers a theological analysis of his decree entitled «Encyclical», which became the first official imperial document directed against the Council of Chalcedon (451) and his doctrine of the two natures in Christ after the incarnation. The «Encyclical» places the Council of Chalcedon outside the church tradition, contrasting it with the Three previous Ecumenical Councils. Against this background, the analysis of the seventh rule of the Council of Ephesus (431), the position of Dioscorus of Alexandria and the accompanying historical events is given.

Abstract:
Abstract The threefold summons of an absent defendant in the context of synodal proceedings – which had been admittedly formed by influence from the respective process in Roman law – is an important component of the ecclesiastical judicial procedure. In this paper I examine in detail all the extensive narratives of threefold summonses preserved in conciliar acts of the fifth and sixth centuries, that is, the cases of Nestorius of Constantinople and John of Antioch at the council of Ephesus (431), the case of the archimandrite Eutyches at the Resident Synod of Constantinople (448), the case of Athanasius of Perrhe at the local synods of Hierapolis (early 440s) and Antioch (445) as well as at the Council of Chalcedon (451), the case of Dioscorus of Alexandria at the Council of Chalcedon, and the case of Anthimus of Constantinople at the Resident Synod of Constantinople (536). In the final part I proceed to an assessment of this process’ evolution over the period in question. The principal conclusion is that by the time of Justinian the ecclesiastical threefold summons procedure had become consolidated and systematised.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Despite the renewed interest in recent years in Dioscorus’ archives from Aphrodito (Middle Egypt, sixth century AD), the Coptic documents they contained have remained curiously understudied: by providing new data to that provided by the Greek texts, the best studied part of this archive, they contribute to a better historical understanding of these bilingual archives. Moreover, as part of a predominantly Greek dossier, they raise the issue of the use and function of Coptic in relation to Greek, the language of the administration, i.e., the relationship between the national language of the Egyptians and the one of Byzantine power. This thesis is the annotated edition of a corpus of Coptic letters, most of which have not previously been published, from Dioscorus’ archives. This text type is the documentary genre best represented in the Coptic component of this archival dossier. The first volume consists of a synthesis, which emphasizes the problem of the relationship between Greek and Coptic in a village like Aphrodito in the middle of the sixth century. It also deals with dialectal features, palaeographic and Coptic grammatical forms in use in the area, and studies historical data that complement those delivered by the Greek archives. Volume II contains the editions of twenty-one letters, with commentary, while volume III contains the appendices (complementary texts, indices, bibliography and plates)

Abstract:
In spite of the vast diffusion of his production, little is known about Eusebius of Alexandria. Three Greek codices do compile his collection alongside three texts displaying more biographical details, but their counterfactual recollection of events quickly led historians to view them as fictional. Although it is signed by a man, John, asserting he was Eusebius’s notary, this biography turns the enigmatic writer into Cyril’s successor, colliding thus with the many historical sources that remembered Dioscorus, the so-called Heresiarch, as Cyril’s actual successor. No matter how fictional this biography can appear, it is clear that it tried to erase out a troubled period of time. If one wants to understand who Eusebius really was, one should then first start to consider John, the alleged writer of an impossible tale. This essay contains therefore a new critical edition of the three biographical texts, with a French translation and a commentary aiming at figuring out who wrote them, when, why and how

Abstract:
In the ancient village of Aphrodito, modern Kūm Išqāw (Egypt), approximately a thousand papyri were found that date from the 6th to the beginning of the 8th century. This exceptional documentation offers the rare opportunity to study the microtoponymy of a village and its countryside, i. E. How territorial divisions below the village level are named. Microtoponyms were collected in a catalogue, which comprises around 650 files containing all the available information for each (attestations, variant spellings, location, contents, owners, tenants, etymology). The analysis, after a summation of the data relating to Aphrodito before the 6th century, focuses on the organization of the village itself and its countryside during the Byzantine period, with the study of the different “toponymic designations” that refer to categories of places to which proper names are or are not given. The hierarchical structure of the components of the countryside is presented, as well as the role of irrigation as a distinguishing criterion. Twenty schemas illustrate the content and situation of the best-documented properties. The 8th century sources are texts of different types to those of the 6th century, but they show deep changes in the territorial organization of the village at the beginning of the Omayyad period

Abstract:
Abstract: Food security is a major concern in today’s context which encompasses availability, affordability, and nutritional quality of food for the population. In Sri Lanka, around 55 traditional and indigenous yams and tuber crop species were identified, and they grow in almost everywhere in the country. Tubers are in a wider range of cultivars, and it is characterized by increased adoptability to different agroecological zones. Convenience propagation methods, wider adoptability, rich in carbohydrates, and less vulnerability to pests and diseases are vital features in promoting tuber crops to supplement main courses in human diet. This research attempt to review of nutritional and agricultural value of five selected tuber crop species as follows: Elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus paenoiifolius), three Rajala species (Dioscorea alata, Dioscorea bulbifera, Dioscorea sativa), and Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea). Data was gathered from relevant textbooks and electronic databases include PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Journals following the PRISMA model. Traditional root and tuber crops are identified as a rich source of carbohydrates, energy, minerals, vitamins, pharmacological properties, bioactive compounds, and with relatively convenient in cultivation in a wider spectrum of agroecological zones. It is easy to cultivate, and they can grow even in unfavorable harsh climate conditions. It is required relatively less agricultural input and can gain more income and output. Inclusiveness of the selected crops into main meals would increase the diversity of the food intake and helps food security. Make aware of those yams among public is also beneficial as they have good amount of carbohydrate, fibers and many pharmacological properties which relieves diseases as well. Abstract:
