Full textA Finite Discrete-time Dynamical System (DDS) consists of a finite set X, called state space, and a function f, called next-state map (which associates to a state v the state f(v)). DDS are a formal tool for modelling phenomena that appear in Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and, of course, in Computer Science. While the mathematical formalisation and the results that found up to nowadays are elegant and meaningful, often they are not very suitable in practice because of their high computational cost. In the literature, it is known that DDS equipped with appropriate sum and product operations form a commutative semiring. This algebraic structure allows us to write polynomial equations in which the coefficients and unknowns are DDS. In particular, if we are interested in some dynamics derived from experimental data, we can write an equation with this as a constant right-hand term and model assumptions about the function f (or its properties) in a polynomial left-hand term. Finding solutions to this equation allow us to better understand the phenomenon and its properties. This approach is interesting but it has important limitations from a computational point of view. Solving a polynomial equation (with several variables) is, in general, undecidable, and even if we focus on the case of hypothesis validation, the computational cost remains high. The idea is then to look for approximations that give relevant information about the solutions of the original equation. It is possible to introduce three abstractions (simpler equations) to identify: the number of states of the variables, the asymptotic behaviour, or the transient behaviour (what happens before the system stabilises). Each one is built from a theoretical and algorithmic point of view to introduce a method to perform hypothesis validation on DDS. In this thesis, it is shown that through algebraic transformations, it is possible to enumerate the solutions of a polynomial equation with a constant term by enumerating a finite number of simpler equations. Finally, the connection between the solution of these simple equations and the cancellation problem known in graph theory is explored. This allowed us to find a linear upper bound on the number of solutions.

Full textIn this thesis we study different scattering systems with chaos. Chaotic scattering, present in a large variety of physical systems, is a type of transient chaos. While the phase-space of such systems is unbounded, irregular motion occurs only in a bounded area, called the scattering region. Still, any (nontrivial) scattering function relating initial conditions to asymptotic variables contains fractal structures, resulting in a very sharp sensitivity to initial conditions. Our first work shows that bifurcations leading to chaos manifest themselves through an infinitely fine-scale structure of rainbow singularities in the cross section. These singularities appear as cascades, mirroring the bifurcation cascade undergone by the chaotic saddle. The second work shows that the presence of dissipation in scattering systems can limit the auto-similarity of originally fractal structures. Depending on the value of their energy, particles scattered by repulsive potentials find forbidden regions in the space-phase. These regions determinate the structure of the chaotic saddle. With friction, the scenario of trapped orbits changes and, depending on the ammount dissipation, scattering functions follow a truncated fractal structure. Our third study concerns the presence of chaotic advection in blood flows. Typically, circulatory diseases are due to sudden changes on the geometry of vessel walls. These deformations can generate chaotic scattering of blood particles carried by the flow. We show, with numerical simulations, that chaos can occur in blood flows and thus form a hazardous cycle in the further developing of circulatory anomalies.

Resumo: Neste trabalho utilizamos a teoria dos conjuntos fuzzy de duas maneiras distintas para a modelagem de dinâmica populacional como alternativa para a modelagem determinística: problema de valor inicial fuzzy e sistemas baseados em regras fuzzy. Apresentamos algumas das principais propriedades da solução de um problema de valor inicial fuzzy obtida por extensão de Zadeh do campo variacional determinístico ou do fluxo derterminístico. Elaboramos bases de regras para dinâmica populacional de espécies isoladas com crescimento inibido e espécies em interação do tipo competição, presa-predador e mutualismo. Além disso, estabelecemos alguns resultados sobre a existência e unicidade de estados de equilíbrio para sistemas p-fuzzy unidimensionais e bidimensionais. Experimentos computacionais são feitos para a validação dos resultados encontrados e modelos aqui propostos

Neste trabalho analisamos um modelo da interação do sistema imune com uma dada população alvo de agentes infecciosos. O modelo é descrito por um conjunto de duas equações diferenciais não-lineares acopladas com retardo. Observamos que as soluções estacionárias tornam-se instáveis acima de um retardo crítico. Mostramos que, sob certas condições, o aumento no retardo induz uma série de bifurcações que levam ao caos. Os expoentes que caracterizam este ponto de bifurcação bem como a dinâmica crítica são obtidos.

Full textThe status and its dynamics among class members in the school environment have been a variable phenomenon and attracting much attention. The personality status of senior schoolchildren in a class and social position in the society have been more or less clear and stable due to longer communication time in the group. Every day schoolchildren spend five or more hours together in the school, and because of that a system which may encourage or suppress the dynamics of the status is created. The problem of the Master‘s Paper has been formulated on the basis of earlier presented arguments that students of senior classes experience situations of leadership or rejection because of the influence of inner – class status and their dynamic factors. The object of the research: the status of senior class students in the group and the factors influencing its dynamics. The goal of the research: to analyze the comprehended and factual status of senior students in the class; to accomplish comparative analysis; to ascertain the opinion of respondents about the ways of increasing the status in the class. Full textThe cell division cycle comprises a sequence of phenomena controlled by a stable and robust genetic network. We applied a Probabilistic Genetic Network (PGN) to construct an hypothetical model with dynamical behaviour and robustness typical of the biological cell-cycle. The structure of our PGN model was inspired in well established biological facts such as the existence of integrator subsystems, negative and positive feedback loops and redundant signaling pathways. Our model represents genes\' interactions as stochastic processes and presents strong robustness in the presence of moderate noise and parameters fluctuations. A recently published deterministic yeast cell-cycle model collapses upon noise conditions that our PGN model supports well. In addition, self stimulatory mechanisms can give our PGN model the possibility of having a pacemaker activity similar to the observed in the oscillatory embryonic cell cycle. Our approach of modeling and simulating the observed behavior by known biological control mechanisms provides plausible hypotheses of how the underlying regulation may be performed in the cell. The ongoing research is lead to identify such regulation mechanisms in the yeast cell-cycle from time-series microarray gene expression data.
