Abstract:
Cities are growing rapidly. As a result, they are exposed to increasing social and urban pressures, particularly in terms of access to administrative, health, housing and employment services. To meet these challenges, they are opting for governance approaches based on digital technologies. But the challenge is not only to appropriate digital innovations, but also to guarantee the rationality of the decisions taken and the fair and effective participation of all stakeholders, particularly residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods. It is in this context of digital transformation that Rabat, capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, aims to make its smart city system responsive to contemporary concerns. It aims to capitalize on its distinctive historical, geographical, administrative and cultural potential. In 2023, Rabat ranked fifth among Arab cities in the Swiss Institute (IMD) ranking, surpassing its neighboring competitor, Casablanca. However, the same study showed that Rabat has a mixed record in the use of digital technologies, particularly in the areas of access to health services, education, leisure and business financing. This observation constitutes one of the key elements which guided us in the choice of the subject of this thesis. Thus, our research problem revolves around the following question: Can we qualify the “Rabat: smart city” project as a democratic, equitable and participatory project? Without calling into question the credibility of this project, the question of social acceptability, particularly of those who should, in theory, be the first beneficiaries, challenges us in several respects. This brings us back to the question initially asked by Vincent Meyer in 2017 concerning the measures taken to ensure that the digital transition itself does not become an additional factor of inequality. To address this subject, we called on the methods and techniques deployed both by geographers and by researchers in information and communication sciences. As this is a joint international thesis at the interface of the two disciplines, the material used is based both on the exploitation of a rich literature for theoretical support and on empirical field studies for understanding the manufacturing process of the “Rabat-intelligent city” project and its operation. This research is organized into 7 chapters comprising 3 levels: The first concerns the theoretical framework, the research problem, the hypotheses and the methodology used. The second addresses the notions of human intelligence and digital solutionism, before addressing the geographical, historical and socio-demographic context of the city of Rabat, then the issues of urban governance. Finally, Chapters 6 and 7 present the lessons learned from this research, trying to highlight the strengths and gaps recorded in terms of participation, social acceptability, communication and financing

Abstract:
Nowadays, Western societies are confronted with the ageing of their population, due to the consequences of the baby-boom and to a longer life expectancy. This context highlights the necessary attention paid to the loss of autonomy of seniors : cost and availability of retirement homes, management of dependency by family and by public policies, etc. The Silver Economy offers technological answers to these social and political problems, by developing many digital products dedicated to reducing the loss of autonomy among seniors. However, these solutions do not always seem to pay sufficient attention to the reality of elderly people. First, technologies do not seem to take into account the expectations and the needs of this population, such as the plurality of their profiles. Moreover, technologies to maintain autonomy do not seem to be adapted to their digital skills and knowledge. Finally, we can question the non democratic potential of digital technologies dedicated to health, considering their high cost whilst the number of retired people living under the poverty line has increased. In our study, we proposed a mixed approach, combining sociology and the information and communication sciences (CIS). Thus, we undertook a prospective study, whose purpose was to apprehend and to understand the current usage of digital technologies among retired people over 60 years old. Our aim was to highlight how seniors use digital devices and services, in order to verify if they are in line with the forms of technological management existing to support their autonomy. To do so, we used a qualitative methodology and surveyed 31 retired users living in Aquitaine. The results of our survey reveal totally disparate levels of digital literacy, influenced by many factors, such as age, contexts of learning, degree of sociability, biographical trajectories and self image. The use of digital technologies is deeply linked to identity processes, whether they are oriented towards biographical rupture or continuity, in relation to the past, the present and the future of the users. Technologies contribute to new forms of sociability, taking over classical ways of social bonding. Internet search practices, on the other hand, allow the user to develop a new self image. We conclude on the necessary adaptation of digital technologies to its identity appropriations of the elderly users

Abstract:
The LMS adaptive algorithm has always been attractive to researchers in the field of adaptive signal processing due to its inherent conceptual and implementational simplicity. Unfortunately, this elegant simplicity is undermined by problems associated with the direct use of the LMS algorithm. One of the main disadvantages of the LMS is its relatively slow convergence. We deal with this problem for FIR adaptive filters by proposing two algorithms based on different approaches. The first algorithm relies on the time-varying step size approach. The step size of the algorithm is adjusted according to an error autocorrelation function. As a result, the algorithm can efficiently sense the adaptation state while maintaining the immunity against independent noise disturbance. The second algorithm is a gradient-based one that combines time- and order-updating when searching the bottom of the MSE surface, thus resulting in more efficient use of the available information. Moreover, two possibilities for the order update are considered: straightforward sequential or selective schemes. Approximate analysis of convergence and steady state performance of the two algorithms are provided. The slow convergence problem of the LMS algorithm is also investigated for IIR adaptive filters based on output-error formulation. A new adaptive algorithm is proposed. The algorithm combines the least mean square (LMS) method with its low complexity and the least squares method with its fast convergence into a coupled LMS-LS adaptive scheme. Simulation examples indicate that the proposed scheme converges significantly faster than the LMS with minimal increase in complexity. Next, we consider the Leaky LMS algorithm as an LMS variant proposed to deal with numerous problems that arise in direct application of LMS, including: lack of persistent excitation in the input sequence, stalling, bursting, etc. However, despite the wide spread usage of the Leaky LMS, there has been no detailed study of its performance. We present an analytical treatment of the mean square error for zero-mean Gaussian input data. Exact expressions for the second moment of the coefficient vector, the algorithm misadjustment, and rigorous conditions for MSE convergence are derived. Finally, we consider one of the common applications of the LMS algorithm, echo cancellation in telephone networks. We investigate the presence of bursting on a back-to-back hybrid connection. Based on the essential fact that the high cross correlation between the input to the adaptive echo canceler and the transmitted signal at the near-end is the root cause of the bursting problem, we modify the conventional echo canceler such that under bursting circumstances the cross-correlation is substantially reduced and bursting is averted. The proposed system ensures normal operation is not affected. Implementation details of the proposed system are studied.

Abstract:
Confidentiality has always been a concern in secret operation. In this thesis, we consider the situation of legitimate data request and transfer between investigator and database owner who provides intelligence, where the identity of the investigation subject and the records in the database are both confidential. Current practice of secret investigation solely relies on the integrity and carefulness of the involved individuals to resist data leakage, but regulations, policy, agreement, such human means cannot give a promising solution, thus a technical means is needed. As appropriate solution for this confidential data request and transfer problem cannot be found from related research, our goal is to offer a means that can help keeping the investigation secret and protecting irrelevant data at the same time. We present a technical solution for preserving two-way confidentiality between the investigator (legitimate data requester) and the database owner (legitimate data holder), which can accommodate the concerns of both sides during the specific information request and transfer. Two schemes, Sender-Based Scheme and Receiver-Based Scheme, have been proposed to solve the problem under different conditions, and illustration of executing our schemes is given through an example situation “Investigator and Private hospital” which is an ordinary scenario during investigation. Furthermore, a practical cost reduction methodology on the schemes and sensible proposals for extensions are suggested and discussed. The direction of future work is also considered.

Oakes, Matthew. "Attention driven solutions for robust digital watermarking within media." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2014. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/7129/.

Full text
Abstract:
As digital technologies have dramatically expanded within the last decade, content recognition now plays a major role within the control of media. Of the current recent systems available, digital watermarking provides a robust maintainable solution to enhance media security. The two main properties of digital watermarking, imperceptibility and robustness, are complimentary to each other but by employing visual attention based mechanisms within the watermarking framework, highly robust watermarking solutions are obtainable while also maintaining high media quality. This thesis firstly provides suitable bottom-up saliency models for raw image and video. The image and video saliency algorithms are estimated directly from within the wavelet domain for enhanced compatibility with the watermarking framework. By combining colour, orientation and intensity contrasts for the image model and globally compensated object motion in the video model, novel wavelet-based visual saliency algorithms are provided. The work extends these saliency models into a unique visual attention-based watermarking scheme by increasing the watermark weighting parameter within visually uninteresting regions. An increased watermark robustness, up to 40%, against various filtering attacks, JPEG2000 and H.264/AVC compression is obtained while maintaining the media quality, verified by various objective and subjective evaluation tools. As most video sequences are stored in an encoded format, this thesis studies watermarking schemes within the compressed domain. Firstly, the work provides a compressed domain saliency model formulated directly within the HEVC codec, utilizing various coding decisions such as block partition size, residual magnitude, intra frame angular prediction mode and motion vector difference magnitude. Large computational savings, of 50% or greater, are obtained compared with existing methodologies, as the saliency maps are generated from partially decoded bitstreams. Finally, the saliency maps formulated within the compressed HEVC domain are studied within the watermarking framework. A joint encoder and a frame domain watermarking scheme are both proposed by embedding data into the quantised transform residual data or wavelet coefficients, respectively, which exhibit low visual salience.

As the population ages and people live longer, the demand for elder care is growing. Families want affordable options that will keep their loved ones safe, healthy, and happy. To this end there are many business opportunities, especially those that use new technology to create innovative solutions for providing consistent, high quality care that's financially efficient for the client and lucrative for the provider. The purpose of this paper is to provide readers with an overview of several current and future business opportunities in elder care. To determine where these opportunities may lie, the author reviewed and compared data from eight U.S-focused companies to provide an overview of the scope and variation in elder care businesses, with an emphasis on the bottom line. These organizations range from those that provide assisted living options, homecare options, new technology, and a combination of the above. Both challenges and opportunities are discussed. This is designed to provide an introduction to the topic; those who are interested in starting their own elder care business or investing in one are encouraged to pursue more indepth research. However, those new to the industry will find this is a great place to start and will appreciate the time and effort it will save them in making their initial decisions. At the end of this study, the author provides his recommendations for elder care investing as well as the model he would develop if he were to start his own business.

Abstract:
Social media has an integral role in today’s businesses due to the rapid development of the internet and digitalization. Still, businesses do not fully utilize the potential of social media and majority of companies do not have a digital marketing plan. Strong social media profiles facilitate a platform to showcase the expertise and research facilities, and strong, active social media profiles do better in search engines. Social media profiles can also be used for starting discussions on related topics or participating in them by writing as administrator. The fundamental purpose of the social media profiles on different sites is to drive traffic to companies’ sites and create leads. This master’s thesis was commissioned by VTT’s Renewable Energy Processes team. The goal was to produce a digital marketing plan to enhance customer and project acquisitioning by utilizing social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter). In this thesis, the creation process of a digital marketing plan was studied especially from the perspective of VTT’s Renewable Energy Processes. The most important social media channels for the team were determined, energy solutions based on their expertise were studied, and a plan was conducted from the perspectives of the organization and employees. In addition, a questionnaire was sent out to the employees of VTT’s Solutions for Natural Resources and Environment organization. The purpose of the questionnaire was to gain an understanding of possible limitations and barriers for using social media professionally. In addition, it was used to map out the social media sites employees were already active at as well as what sites they might be interested in. The formed digital marketing plan includes strategies for social media and content marketing. A digital marketing plan was produced based on a mission statement, reviewing resources and defining target audience. An important part of the plan was to analyze companies’ as well as competitors’ current social media presence. For the social media marketing plan, sites were chosen and site specific plans were created. A content marketing plan was made to facilitate the creation and curation of content. The content marketing plan was an integrate part of the digital marketing plan as the most common problem is creating captivating content continuously. A trial social media profile was created in Facebook under the name VTTEnergySolutions. The profile was created in the beginning phase of this thesis and it was studied for the duration of approximately 5 months in 2016, from July to November. Based on the analysis, the reachability of a post could be increased by sharing it further to different discussion groups. There was also an interesting correlation between energy related events and increase in site traffic. The produced digital marketing plan is aligned with VTT’s new strategy. It focuses on utilizing the expertise of the employees, the VTTPeople, and increasing impact through creating and sharing content in the appropriate social media sites. Currently, the most important social media sites for the organization to be active in are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. These are the chosen sites for Renewable Energy Processes to begin their social media activities at. Based on the results obtained in this thesis, the VTT’s official social media profiles in these social media sites will be utilized in the future according to the suggestions presented in the digital marketing plan. A Showcase page in LinkedIn under VTT’s company page will be the platform for publishing content. The efficient use of current VTT related hashtags encouraged to create a new hashtag: #VTTEnergy. This new hashtag plays a key role in the strategy for Twitter. The trial social media profile VTTEnergySolutions in Facebook will be continued and other energy related teams will be sought out to share administrative responsibilities. An editorial calendar created in Outlook to assist the team to plan, produce and manage the contents.

Abstract:
Today, certified real estate agents need technological tools that enhance their day-to-day activities to achieve their goals faster and more consistently. However, existing tools have deficiencies. As for the first, it was found that the tools that exist are expensive on a monthly basis, that is, only a CRM borders 50 dollars, which only helps you organize your activities; However, if you want other services you have to keep paying a lot more money. In addition, the disorganization it generates because they have information on all sides and it is difficult to keep an exact control when being on different platforms.  For these reasons born Red360, which consists in the creation of a modern, interactive and friendly web platform for certified real estate agents, where they are offered all the digital solutions that will allow them to achieve better and more opportunities for sale, efficiency and efficiency in real estate management, professional growth and all under a safe and reliable system. Validation was divided into two phases. The first, focused on validating the existence of the problem and the interest of the agents. In the second step, the purchase intent was validated through business meetings and experiments where users made use of the service.  We believe that this project has great growth potential and this is evidenced by our financial results and acceptance of the service.

Abstract:
The problem of insufficient healthcare is particularly noticeable in rural regions. Despite this, there is still little research on the digital transformation of healthcare in rural areas. This thesis aims to bridge the gap between the two research fields of "digital health” and “rural development” to find out the most significant challenges for rural areas when implementing and using digital health solutions. "Rural areas" in this work are referring to areas with low population density and small settlements in the industrialised EU countries. First of all, a “Digital Health Ecosystem” was developed based on a research review, which served as an overview of the most important factors and stakeholders regarding digital health in general. The “Digital Health Ecosystem” was used as part of the qualitative research method and interview guide to identify the challenges in transferring the overview to rural areas. An interview study was conducted with eight experts from the field of digital health with different backgrounds like technology, economics, social sciences, healthcare systems and smart village. The results show that digital health in general involves many barriers, which also apply to rural areas. The specific challenges for rural areas could be divided into four main categories: broadband and mobile networks; structural barriers; digital acceptance & competence; rural innovation. The findings reveal that the smart village concept and rural initiatives are still in their early stages and digital strategies and networks will have to spread more widely across the entire countries. Furthermore, services must be better targeted to the specific problems of rural communities. In particular, because the need for digital health solutions is very great in rural areas, where they can counteract problems like lack of healthcare providers and poor healthcare. In this context, all the general and specific challenges should not be considered separately, because the complexity of the ecosystem can only be understood by connecting all the different fields of action.

Abstract:
Recovery from work is crucial for health and well-being, and organizations have an obligation to enable employee recovery. Organizations can promote employee recovery by implementing strategies and thus reach sustainable development. In 2020, organizations exist in a digitalized world, which has expedited the need to implement digital solutions and use them for processes. Encouraging and fostering recovery are central elements in promoting recovery and digital solutions could help with both elements. The usage of digital solutions include how digital solutions are used and how they could be used. There is no previous research on digital solutions, recovery promotion and usage, so we define our research phenomenon as the usage of digital solutions to promote recovery. We identify our research gap in the connection of recovery and digital solutions in an organizational context. By describing the research phenomenon, we can fill this research gap and thus add to the existing literature on organizational health and well-being. The purpose of this research is to describe organizations’ usage of digital solutions to promote recovery.By performing an inductive qualitative case study, we collect data by performing a documentation review and online surveys. We find that mobile applications, virtual assistants, activity trackers, virtual reality and smart electric bicycles can be used to promote recovery. We also find a favorable context for both recovery and for digital solutions to promote recovery. Further, we see potential for using the identified digital solutions to promote recovery. We conclude that strategy implementation consisting of digital solutions to promote recovery in organizations will lead to a higher level of healthy workforce.

This thesis presents application-driven temperature-aware solutions for next generation video coding systems, such as the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). Different from state-of-the-art works, the proposed solutions raise the abstraction of temperature management to the application-level, where video coding characteristics and video content properties are used to leverage thermal-aware solutions for video coding with low QoS (Quality of Service) degradation. Several video coding and temperature analyses are performed to understand the behavior of temperature when encoding different video sequences. Based on the analyses results, different approaches are proposed to mitigate the temperature effects on video coding systems. Application-driven temperature management for HEVC uses run-time encoder configuration selection to keep temperature under safe operational state while providing good visual quality results. Temperature optimization using approximate computing uses content-driven approximations to reduce the on-chip temperature of HEVC encoding. Application-driven temperature-aware scheduler leverages application-specific knowledge to guide a scheduling technique targeting reducing the spatial temperature gradients that are resulted from the unbalance workload nature of multi-threaded video coding application. The proposed solutions are able to provide up to 10 °C of chip temperature reduction with negligible compression efficiency loss. Besides, when compared with previous works the resulted objective video quality (PSNR) is from 12 dB up to 20 dB higher. Moreover, the proposed scheduler eliminates spatial temperature gradients greater than 5 ºC of multi-core architectures. As conclusion, this thesis demonstrates that leveraging application-specific knowledge and video content properties has a significant potential to improve temperature profiles of video coding systems while still keeping good quality results.

Abstract:
This paper aims to examine important aspects in sensitive conversations with children and how social workers can manage to create prerequisites to make the conversations work out in a functional way. The paper is a part of a pilot study which aims to create digital solutions for social work students to practice sensitive conversations with children in a digital environment. Our study is based on qualitative interviews and the methodology used for analysis is constructivist grounded theory. The analysis has resulted in the core categories 1) emotional management to achieve a professional approach, 2) flexibility and adaptability, 3) conversational methods and 4) context markers. The result shows that the professional who is leading the conversation needs to be able to practice active listening, to harbor other peoples (the children) feelings and to be flexible. To be flexible means to be able to adopt the approach to every individual child, but also to be adjustable towards what conversational methods to be used, so that every individual’s need can be met. In conclusion, it is important in the treatment of a child to mark out the context of the conversation and situation for the child before, during and after the conversation. To mark out the context of the conversation is also important for the social worker to be able to master the conversation. Using digital solutions in order to practice on sensitive conversations can be an effective tool to build up context markers for the social worker and therefore get more comfortable to lead difficult conversations.

Hollis, Timothy Mowry. "Circuit and Modeling Solutions for High-Speed Chip-to-Chip Communication." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2007. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/1067.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents methods for modeling and mitigating voltage noise and timing jitter across high-speed chip-to-chip interconnects. Channel equalization and associated tuning schemes have been developed to target the distinct characteristics and signal degradation exhibited in the clock and data signals of multi-Gigabit/second digital communication links. Multiple methods for generating realistically degraded signals for the purpose of simulation are also presented and used to verify the proposed equalization and filtering topologies. Specifically, a new technique for modeling high-speed jittery clocks in the frequency domain is presented and shown to reduce transient simulation time and memory requirements, while simultaneously improving the timing resolution and accuracy of the simulation by minimizing the dependence on the transient simulation time-step. The technique is further developed to provide unprecedented control over the timing characteristics of the generated signals, and is then extended to the generation of random data signals with definable jitter statistics. Through these techniques, realistic clock and data waveforms are constructible, providing for the visualization of the combined effects of voltage and timing degradation, while at the same time tracking the phase relationship between the clock and data signals as they pass across their respective channels and through the receiving circuitry of the communication link. New methods for the automated tuning of second-order continuous-time channel equalizers are proposed based on the simulated or measured single pulse and double pulse responses of the transmission channel. Using only one degree of freedom, the methods target the reduction of inter-symbol interference (ISI) as identified in the single and double pulses. Through tuning either the circuit quality factor (Q), the peaking frequency, or the frequency zero, the methods are shown to adapt to a variety of channel lengths and datarates from the same original equalizer transfer function, implying a good degree of generality, while offering a simple, yet effective, method for ISI reduction. Finally, the design of an active 5 Gigahertz (GHz) bandpass filter, employed for high-speed clock conditioning, is presented and shown to address both random and deterministic components of the clock signal degradation. The bandpass transfer function is achieved through a combination of AC coupling and a resonant LC tank consisting of on-chip interleaved spiral inductors and a tunable capacitor array. Through adjusting the load capacitance in parallel with the inductors, the center frequency of the filter is tunable over a range of nearly 5GHz. The design targets a supply voltage of 1.2 volts and draws approximately 5.7 milliamps of current.

Abstract:
In teleconferencing the audio quality is key to conducting successful meetings. The conference room setting imposes various challenges on the speech signal processing, such as noise and interfering signals, reverberation, or participants positioned far from the telephone unit. This work aims at improving the received speech signal of a conference telephone by implementing sound source localization and beamforming. The implemented microphone array signal processing techniques are compared to the performance of an existing multi-microphone solution and evaluated under various conditions using a planar uniform circular array. Recordings of test-sequences for the evaluation were performed using a custom-built array mockup. The implemented algorithms did not show good enough performance to motivate the increased computational complexity compared to the existing solution. Moreover, an increase in number of microphones used was concluded to have little or no effect on the performance of the methods. The type of microphone used was, however, concluded to have impact on the performance and a subjective listening evaluation indicated a preference for omnidirectional microphones which is recommended to investigate further.

Abstract:
Bi-dimensional modulation formats based on amplitude and phase signal modulation, are now commonly used in optical communications thanks to breakthroughs in the field of electronic and digital signal processing (DSP) required in coherent optical receivers. Photonic solutions could compensate for nowadays limitations of electrical circuits bandwidth by facilitating the signal processing parallelization. Photonic is particularly interesting for signal sampling thanks to available stable optical clocks. The heart of the present work concerns analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) as a key element in coherent detection. A prototype of linear optical sampling using an original solution for the optical sampling source, is built and validated with the successful equivalent time reconstruction of NRZ, QPSK and 16-QAM signals. Some optical and electrical limitations of the system are experimentally and numerically analyzed, notably the extinction ratio of the optical source or the ADC parameters (bandwidth, integration time, effective number of bits ENOB). Moreover, some new DSPs tools are developed for optical transmission using bi-dimensional modulation formats (amplitude and phase). Two solutions are proposed for IQ quadrature imbalance compensation in single carrier optical coherent transmission: an original method of maximum signal-to-noise ratio estimation (MSEM) and a new structure for joint compensation and equalization; these methods are experimentally and numerically validated with 16-QAM signals. Moreover, an improved solution for carrier recovery (frequency offset and phase estimation) based on a circular harmonic expansion of a maximum loglikelihood function is studied for the first time in the context of optical telecommunications. This solution which can operate with any kind of bi-dimensional modulation format signal is numerically validated up to 128-QAM. All the DSP tools developed in this work are finally used in a demonstration of a 10 Gbaud QPSK 100 km transmission experiment, featuring a strong non-linear phase noise limitation and regenerated using a phase preserving and power limiting function based on a photonic crystal nanocavity

Abstract:
Rural communities face a range of challenges associated with accessibility and connectivity. Though real-time passenger information systems (RTPIS) have been long heralded as offering the potential to mitigate some of these challenges their deployment in rural areas has been very limited. The lack of real-time passenger information has been identified as a contributing factor to a multitude of issues, such as high car usage, low public transport use and travel uncertainty. There is considerable potential for appropriate technologies to contribute to the alleviation of these issues, as evidence exists that they can influence travel behaviour, and cultivate positive attitudes towards the service and the operator. This thesis investigated the interplay between rural passenger experience and real-time information provision. Overall, this work aims to provide an initial stepping point on to understanding the interplay between passenger behaviour, disruptions, passenger experience, and real-time information. In order to explore the aforementioned, first, a series of interviews and focus groups with rural public transport passengers, rural transport operators, government agencies and members of academia have been carried out to study the rural passengers' responses to planned and unplanned travel disruption. Based on these i) a conceptual model that aims to describe the passenger recovery phases to disruption and the associated passenger information requirements, ii) and a framework that highlights characteristics of transport behaviour, and aligns them with drivers of transport behaviour adaptation have been created. Next, through a series of co-designed sessions in various rural areas throughout the UK a mobile technology probe, which provides public transport real time information to the passengers has been developed. Then using the technology probe a two-week before-and-after intervention study with 15 participants has been carried out. The results indicate that real-time information provided through the technology probe adjusted the travel behaviour of the participants. Namely, it improved the utilisation of waiting time of the participants, improved the efficiency of their travelling, and enabled them to find alternatives when needed. Further, to get a better picture of the effect of real-time information on rural travellers, during the intervention study 6 of the participants in their everyday travels for 7 days have been actively observed by the author. The outcomes from this supplemented the data from the study and illustrated how the rural public transport travellers used the system in their day-to-day travels. Finally, all our findings have been combined to co-create a system design with rural public transport passengers that aims to improve their experience during disruption. The final design mainly concentrated on providing information regarding pre-trip, on-trip and on boarding point, journey planning, supporting the rural passenger experience through social media, and disruption. In order to evaluate the applicability and suitability of the design, and explore how it relates to the needs of the rural passengers, two focus groups have been conducted. The results of the evaluation activity illustrate that the mobile RTPI system design was perceived as highly useful and relevant to the needs of the rural passenger.

Abstract:
[Truncated abstract] This thesis studies current sensing techniques that are designed to meet the requirements for the next generation of power converters. Power converters are often standardised, so that they can be replaced with a model from another manufacturer without an expensive system redesign. For this reason, the power converter market is highly competitive and relies on cutting-edge technology, which increases power conversion efficiency and power density. High power density and conversion efficiency reduce the system cost, and thus make the power converter more attractive to the customer. Current sensing is a vital task in power converters, where the current information is required for monitoring and control purposes. In order to achieve the above-mentioned goals, existing current sensing techniques have to be improved in terms of cost, power loss and size. Simultaneously, current information needs to be increasingly available in digital form to enable digital control, and to allow the digital transmission of the current information to a centralised monitoring and control unit. All this requires the output signal of a particular current sensing technique to be acquired by an analogue-to-digital converter, and thus the output voltage of the current sensor has to be sufficiently large. This thesis thoroughly reviews contemporary current sensing techniques and identifies suitable techniques that have the potential to meet the performance requirements of the next-generation of power converters. After the review chapter, three novel current sensing techniques are proposed and investigated: 1) The usefulness of the resistive voltage drop across a copper trace, which carries the current to be measured, to detect electrical current is evaluated. Simulations and experiments confirm that this inherently lossless technique can measure high currents at reasonable measurement bandwidth, good accuracy and low cost if the sense wires are connected properly. 2) Based on the mutual inductance theory found during the investigation of the copper trace current sense method, a modification of the well-known lossless inductor current sense method is proposed and analysed. This modification involves the use of a coupled sense winding that significantly improves the frequency response. Hence, it becomes possible to accurately monitor the output current of a power converter with the benefits of being lossless, exhibiting good sensitivity and having small size. 3) A transformer based DC current sense method is developed especially for digitally controlled power converters. This method provides high accuracy, large bandwidth, electrical isolation and very low thermal drift. Overall, it achieves better performance than many contemporary available Hall Effect sensors. At the same time, the cost of this current sensor is significantly lower than that of Hall Effect current sensors. A patent application has been submitted. .... The current sensing techniques have been studied by theory, hardware experiments and simulations. In addition, the suitability of the detection techniques for mass production has been considered in order to access the ability to provide systems at low-cost.

In this paper, the author explains why architects who know how to use scripts have an advantage over the ones who just know how to manipulate a specific software. The reason behind this affirmation is that knowing how to program frees the architect from the rules and language of the interactive software. To prove his point, the author organized two workshops where students at the school of architecture learned to use Rhinoscript. The students didn’t create a new interface, but used an existing one. They adapted the program (Rhino) to a design problem they had formulated at the beginning of the workshop. Students could have also used MaxScript (3DS Max) and MelScript (Maya).

Abstract:
Digitalization is the process of making digital everything that can be digitised to change a business model and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities. However, difficulties exist in evaluating the value created by digital technology investments in organisations, industry structures, economies and society, at large. My dissertation illustrates how the distinct characteristics of digital technologies are implicit in an evolution from stable to fragile product innovation; while highlighting the need for a dynamic approach to entrepreneurial innovation within national innovation systems. The foundations for my work are bound up in the digitalization of value networks, and the context for this research is digital cinema - a process that began in 2000. Digital cinema offered a new value proposition to distributors and significant cost reductions for the US studios. With a reliance on a highly developed value chain to protect intellectual property, these studios sought to learn from the disruption digitalization caused to the music industry, by cultivating digital technology as an, incremental innovation, in replacing celluloid with bytes to project content to cinema audiences. Global digital cinema penetration in 2014 stood at 90 per cent of the total screen footprint. The dissertation assesses features of this digital rollout that have been under-explored; including the role digital technology has assumed in process and product innovation; and, the behavioural responses of both incumbents and new entrants during the diffusion and adoption phase. My dissertation is supported by eight published papers, which highlight the need for domestic policymakers to focus their attention on emerging entrepreneurial innovations; the utilisation of current knowledge and strategies for novel solutions in order to strengthen their respective national innovation systems. Taken together they help explain the creation, diffusion and adoption of digital cinema, explore the new content creation opportunities they support, and explain how three nations in particular have sought to innovate and reorientate themselves in relation to these novel phenomena. The wider implications of the findings of the project build on the innovation literature in examining the diffusion, adoption and knowledge acquisition during the rollout of digital cinema technology. These findings suggest a radically different reading of both disruptive innovations and national innovation systems than has been offered in previous accounts, viewing the digital cinema rollout as a case study of an increasingly mobile sector, in which technological factors retreat in importance behind entrepreneurial innovation as a key driving force in reaching audiences. Finally, in exploring the phenomenon of the digitalization of value networks I have made a significant contribution to knowledge in the design of an innovative mixed method; specifically in the area of field research - a qualitative data collection method designed for considering, observing, and interacting with individuals in their natural environments. Over time, I have established that digital cinema was capable of delivering novel supply and demand solutions - starting with a few unrelated scraps of data, through the establishment of personal networks with communities of practice (in the UK, US & Norway) to building rich, and complex quantitative data sets capable of measuring the entire diffusion and adoption phase of the digital cinema rollout, right across Europe.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Multi-resolution analysis (MRA) has become a very popular eld of mathematical study in the past two decades, being not only an area rich in applications but one that remains lled with open problems. Building on the foundation of re nability of functions, MRA seeks to lter through levels of ever-increasing detail components in data sets { a concept enticing to an age where development of digital equipment (to name but one example) needs to capture more and more information and then store this information in di erent levels of detail. Except for designing digital objects such as animation movies, one of the most recent popular research areas in which MRA is applied, is inpainting, where \lost" data (in example, a photograph) is repaired by using boundary values of the data set and \smudging" these values into the empty entries. Two main branches of application in MRA are subdivision and wavelet analysis. The former uses re nable functions to develop algorithms with which digital curves are created from a nite set of initial points as input, the resulting curves (or drawings) of which possess certain levels of smoothness (or, mathematically speaking, continuous derivatives). Wavelets on the other hand, yield lters with which certain levels of detail components (or noise) can be edited out of a data set. One of the greatest advantages when using wavelets, is that the detail data is never lost, and the user can re-insert it to the original data set by merely applying the wavelet algorithm in reverse. This opens up a wonderful application for wavelets, namely that an existent data set can be edited by inserting detail components into it that were never there, by also using such a wavelet algorithm. In the recent book by Chui and De Villiers (see [2]), algorithms for both subdivision and wavelet applications were developed without using Fourier analysis as foundation, as have been done by researchers in earlier years and which have left such algorithms unaccessible to end users such as computer programmers. The fundamental result of Chapter 9 on wavelets of [2] was that feasibility of wavelet decomposition is equivalent to the solvability of a certain set of identities consisting of Laurent polynomials, referred to as Bezout identities, and it was shown how such a system of identities can be solved in a systematic way. The work in [2] was done in the univariate case only, and it will be the purpose of this thesis to develop similar results in the bivariate case, where such a generalization is entirely non-trivial. After introducing MRA in Chapter 1, as well as discussing the re nability of functions and introducing box splines as prototype examples of functions that are re nable in the bivariate setting, our fundamental result will also be that wavelet decomposition is equivalent to solving a set of Bezout identities; this will be shown rigorously in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3, we give a set of Laurent polynomials of shortest possible length satisfying the system of Bezout identities in Chapter 2, for the particular case of the Courant hat function, which will have been introduced as a linear box spline in Chapter 1. In Chapter 4, we investigate an application of our result in Chapter 3 to bivariate interpolatory subdivision. With the view to establish a general class of wavelets corresponding to the Courant hat function, we proceed in the subsequent Chapters 5 { 8 to develop a general theory for solving the Bezout identities of Chapter 2 separately, before suggesting strategies for reconciling these solution classes in order to be a simultaneous solution of the system.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine which factors that are crucial for an organization to go through a successful digitalization, and how these factors relate, to increase the understanding of what contributes to a successful digitalization. The study aims to answer the purpose and the research question with a theoretical perspective of sociomateriality. An interdisciplinary method forms the basis of this study. The empirical data has been collected via semi-structured interviews and a survey at the municipal landlord Uppsalahem. The results indicated that several factors could influence an organization's possibilities to reach a successful digitalization: goals, the motivation to work for the organizations common goals, training in digital solutions, the opportunity to makes suggestions, degree of employee engagement, uneven digital maturity among employees, employees' attitude towards digital solutions; communication bases on target-groups; resource allocation; managers' access to resources to support. Further, the results indicate that several of these factors relate. By examining the factors and the relationships that affect the organization's ability to conduct a successful digitization. The study also contributed to a better understanding of how digitalization can be conducted to include all members of the organization - even those who do not have digital solutions as their primary work tool. The results indicate that there are several factors that should be considered by the organization to accomplish a successful digitalization.

Abstract:
Throughout the last decades, the Internet has brought a myriad of innovative services in organizations. Cloud computing has been a part of Information Technologies that have transformed organizations. It enhances automation and agility, allows scalability and ubiquity as well as reduces time-to-market. However, previous research studies in the IT field has taught us that organizations cannot sustain in a competitive market without, first, investing in IT, and then, effectively governing it. For instance, the extensive list of failing organizations, due to their bad IT governance, has raised awareness regarding the importance held for effective governance. Therefore, organizations can use their investments in IT to their benefits when governed effectively. Similarly, in order to reduce risks generated when adopting cloud services, and benefit from the promised advantages, organizations should effectively govern them. Nevertheless, to our knowledge, no cloud governance model, addressing the various angles of cloud computing, exists. While this research work is motivated by the primordial need for governance, it explores cloud governance adopted by large French organizations, and whether it can be achieved through the organizations’ IT governance. In addition, it aims at studying the possible link between the organization’s effective cloud governance and the intensity level of their adoption. We conduct 35 interviews with large French organizations that have adopted cloud services in order to meet the objectives of this research work. The two rounds of interviews with the 35 organizations highlight numerous major impacts of cloud computing. From the results arise different possible governance models when adopting cloud services in large organizations, along with various factors affecting this governance. We finally stress on the originality of our contributions in the IT and cloud governance literature, as well as we draw the light on the impact of theoretical and practical implications to the Information Systems community

Turnes, Christopher Kowalczyk. "Efficient solutions to Toeplitz-structured linear systems for signal processing." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/51878.

Full text
Abstract:
This research develops efficient solution methods for linear systems with scalar and multi-level Toeplitz structure. Toeplitz systems are common in one-dimensional signal-processing applications, and typically correspond to temporal- or spatial-invariance in the underlying physical phenomenon. Over time, a number of algorithms have been developed to solve these systems economically by exploiting their structure. These developments began with the Levinson-Durbin recursion, a classical fast method for solving Toeplitz systems that has become a standard algorithm in signal processing. Over time, more advanced routines known as superfast algorithms were introduced that are capable of solving Toeplitz systems with even lower asymptotic complexity. For multi-dimensional signals, temporally- and spatially-invariant systems have linear-algebraic descriptions characterized by multi-level Toeplitz matrices, which exhibit Toeplitz structure on multiple levels. These matrices lack the same algebraic properties and structural simplicity of their scalar analogs. As a result, it has proven exceedingly difficult to extend the existing scalar Toeplitz algorithms for their treatment. This research presents algorithms to solve scalar and two-level Toeplitz systems through a constructive approach, using methods devised for specialized cases to build more general solution methods. These methods extend known scalar Toeplitz inversion results to more general scalar least-squares problems and to multi-level Toeplitz problems. The resulting algorithms have the potential to provide substantial computational gains for a large class of problems in signal processing, such as image deconvolution, non-uniform resampling, and the reconstruction of spatial volumes from non-uniform Fourier samples.

Abstract:
We live in an era where markets are more dynamic and the product life cycle is shorter, an era where concepts such as smart manufacturing and mass customization form part of daily life in industries and where consumption rates of products and services are rising. All these result in more dynamic, global, complex and fragile supply chains. Disruptions are negative impacts on business continuity in companies and when a supply chain is disrupted there is only one way to tackle the challenges originated and is the ability to be resilient. Based on a systematic literature review, this thesis lay out a framework to position Vendor Managed Inventory digital solutions in order to provide full visibility in the supply chains, and enhance agility and flexibility skill sets in the organizations to be resilient after massive disruptions such as the COVID-19. The conclusions of this work provide a positive outlook of the capabilities of VMI solutions to create more resilient supply chains.

Abstract:
Abstract Background:  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a series of regulations and recommendations were imposed. This resulted in firms transitioning their co-located teams into virtual teams in an effort to slow down and prevent the spread of COVID-19. This research focuses on the individual team member’s experience of the transition. The transition is a digital transformation and organizational change and its effects on the individual team member is being studied.  Purpose:  The purpose of this research study is to explore how individual team members experience the transition from a co-located team into a virtual team. Trust, communication and social interactions are previously known challenges for virtual teams. Therefore, we strive to explore how these aspects have been affected by the transition and how the individual team member has experienced it.  Method:  This study follows a qualitative research design and the method of choice is semi-structured interviews that have been carried out in a virtual environment due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Eleven interviewees have contributed to the empirical study. The main findings are presented in chapter 4 and analyzed against existing literature in chapter 5, to finally be concluded in chapter 6.  Conclusion:  Trust has previously been listed as a major challenge for virtual teams. However, our empirical findings have not identified trust as a major challenge and therefore contradict this. Communication has changed and the biggest two contributors to this is that the communication is digital and that body language becomes less effective in a virtual setting as compared to face-to-face communication. However, communication has not been a major issue during the transition but rather a complication. Social interactions were identified as the aspect affecting the team members the hardest since they had become non-existent except for in the virtual environment in many cases. A high level of digital maturity and the teams previously being co-located is seen to have made the transitions easier in terms of trust and communication. Furthermore, team members struggle to find their work life balance and often work more hours.

Abstract:
Etiska aspekter beaktades genomgående under arbetets gång.
Introduction: Handling of materials sets different requirements depending on its characteristics. In order to meet internal demands of high delivery service at a low cost, it is important to design an effective supply of materials. New technology and the application of IT-systems can provide opportunities to streamline materials supply by increasing service levels and reducing costs. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to design and evaluate a working methodology in order to achieve effective internal supply of materials from goods receipt to production. Methods: A theoretical framework formed the basis to identify significant areas to achieve effective internal materials supply. In parallel, a case study was conducted at a company operating in the elevator industry. Data collection was primarily based on different types of interviews and observations to create an understanding of the company´s materials supply. The data obtained were mainly compared with the theoretical framework in the analysis phase of the developed working methodology. Conclusions was drawn, based on the analysis phase. Ethical aspects were taken into account throughout the work of this study. The developed working methodology: Based on significant identified areas, from the theoretical framework, a working methodology was developed to achieve effective internal materials supply, consisting of six phases: Prerequisites, Description of the current situation, Analysis of the current situation, Design of improvement proposals, Implementation and Follow-up. Four of these phases were applied on a company with the aim of designing improvements proposals with the potential to achieve effective internal materials supply. Finally, the applied phases of the working methodology were evaluated to highlight its strengths, challenges and possibilities of development as well as the further application. Conclusion: The significant areas and other supportive digital solutions were not considered sufficient enough to generate effective internal materials supply and thereby there was a necessity for an organized approach to utilize these areas. In order to support this, complements were required in form of a working methodology with a number of structured phases, including important considerations, which must be followed methodically in order to design improvement proposals which can achieve a more effective internal materials supply. The improvement proposals that were designed included, for instance, a new procedure for materials call-off, new principles for buffers, reduction of internal transports and automatic suggestion of place of storage.

Abstract:
Is a fast but fragile system good? Is an available but slow system good? These two questions demonstrate the importance of performance and availability in computer clusters.
This thesis addresses issues correlated to performance and availability when a rollback- recovery pessimistic message log based fault tolerance protocol is applied into a computer cluster based on the message-passing model. Such a correlation is also known as performability.
The root factors influencing the performability when using the RADIC (Redundant Array of Distributed Independent Fault Tolerance Controllers) fault tolerance architecture are raised and studied. Factors include the message delivery latency, which increases when using pessimistic logging causing performance overhead, as also in the redundant data (logs and checkpoints) replication needed to increase availability in RADIC and the process per node distribution changed by faults, which may cause performance degradation and preventive maintenance stops.
In order to face these problems some alternatives are presented based on a performability analysis. Using a pipeline approach the performance overhead of message logging and the redundant data replication were mitigated. Changes in the process per node distribution can be avoided or restored using the flexible and transparent mechanism for dynamic redundancy proposed, or using a dynamic insertion of spare or replacement nodes.
The obtained results show that the presented contributions could improve the performability of a computer cluster when using a fault tolerance solution such as RADIC.

Abstract:

The market for digital TV is developing and some industry actors focus on interactive TV. Interactive content and services that previously only were able to use through a standard PC are now available to use through the TV set. To distribute the services to the TV a so called set top box with broadband connection needs to be used. Such a box can be described as a unit where a standard PC and a digital TV receptor are integrated.

This thesis aims to investigate the market for electronic payment solutions with a focus on payment for interactive content and services in digital TV. The presumptive services are many which lead to a relative complex analysis of how they should be paid for. What kind of service is it really to be paid for?

In order to conduct an appropriate analysis this thesis contains an identification of five different service-/content types. The grouping we have conducted is in so called On Demand services, Voice over IP, Shopping, Interactive TV and web services. In order to be able to conduct a relevant assessment of how the distributed services should be paid for the understanding of the market situation is utterly important. Therefore the thesis contains a pre study of the different market actors that can be related to a set top box and interactive TV.

The study of eight different actors on the Swedish market provides an overview of content providers’ as well as payment companies’ view on how interactive content and services should be paid for. The result from the thesis is a recommendation on how an electronic payment solution should be designed and important aspects to think of. One of the key outcomes is that different services needs different types of payment solutions which implies that you should first decide on what type of services that are to be provided before a decision is made on the payment solution.

A byproduct from the thesis is the analysis model that facilitates analysis of services as well as payment solutions and - methods related to electronic payments and interactive media.

Thesis, Grenoble, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013GRENT083/document.

Full text
Abstract:
In the context of Passive Optical Networks (PON), operators are looking for innovative solutions to increase aggregated data-rate, split-ratio and reach. Another requirement is that transceivers should be as low-cost as possible. The optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique can improve performance of the transmission in terms of data-rate and reach as compared to classical single-carrier On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation. At the same time, the silicon photonics technology can lower the cost per unit of the transceiver, due to its mass production and E/O integration capabilities. Optical OFDM has already shown its potential using commercially available optical components. However, its use with silicon photonics Directly-Modulated Lasers (DML) and modulators is more challenging. The objective of this work is to study the performance of OFDM -based solutions for future PON, using silicon photonics transmitters. For that purpose, a dedicated simulation platform is developed. The OFDM modem is implemented, as well as models of silicon photonic devices built during this thesis. These models are validated by characterizing physical components available for test. In parallel, an experimental test-bed is developed. The silicon photonics transmitters are benchmarked with commercial-available transmitters for OFDM-based optical systems. For Intensity-Modulated/Directly-Detected (IM/DD) links, the use of optical OFDM with adaptive bit and power loading is proposed to maximize spectral efficiency. Two types of silicon photonics transmitters are considered: directly modulated III/V-on-silicon lasers (experiment) and external optical modulators such as Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) (simulation) and ring-resonator (simulation and experiment). Experimental results show that the hybrid DML can provide more than 10Gbps aggregated data-rate over at least 50km, which is a requirement for future uplink PON (from the subscriber to the central office). For the silicon ring modulator, because of the high coupling loss in and out of the photonic chip, reach was limited to 20km for a data-rate higher than 10Gbps. These are the first experimental demonstrations of OFDM modulation with hybrid III/V-on-silicon lasers and silicon ring-resonator modulator. Besides, simulation results show that reach can be indeed improved up to 100km if the optical signal is amplified or the coupling loss reduced. A modulation technique called Single-Side Band (SSB)-OFDM is known to improve the [bandwidth x reach] product of the link, as compared to IM/DD (Dual-Side Band (DSB)) systems. However, it requires expensive transmitters with several discrete optical components. As silicon photonics technology allows a very high level of integration between different optical components and between electrical and optical devices, a silicon optical IQ modulator enabling ac{SSB}-ac{OFDM} technique is investigated. Simulation results of a study-case reveal that a relatively low optical budget penalty (up to 3dB) of the silicon photonics transmitters as compared to the LiNbO3 modulator is achieved. The solutions presented in this thesis are demonstrated to be compliant with future PON in terms of data-rate, with relatively low bandwidth (<6.25GHz) electronics. This is a great asset for the considered application. The driving voltages required for typical IM/DD systems showed to be closer to what CMOS driving circuitry can provide (about 2Vpp). Recent developments on high-speed digital signal processors and D/A-A/D converters, using CMOS technologies, make optical-OFDM an attractive solution for future PONs as full-Silicon-transmitters could be used

Abstract:
The amount of debt connected to consumption is increasing in the Swedish society. This increase has coincided with the emergence of e-commerce and invoice as a popular payment method. Payment solutions that provides invoice and installment as payment methods for e-commerce sites has because of this received criticism by media and a new legislation against a certain type of behavioral design in payment solutions has been introduced. Despite the public debate there is a lack of research about how users choose payment method and their experiences about the impact that behavioral design has within this context. The aim of this study was to provide initial insights and knowledge about this topic. Qualitative methods were used together with theory about behavioral design and human decision making. Specifically, Theory of Planned Behavior and three types of behavioral design – persuasive design, digital nudging and dark patterns. An evaluation of the two payment solutions Klarna and Qliro, was carried out to identify behavioral design in their services. This was followed by interviews with users to get an understanding about their decision process when choosing payment method and how behavioral design impact this process. The results showed that the users in this study had a habitual behavioral when it comes to choosing payment method when shopping online. Regardless if the preferred method is invoice or card payment it seems as if the choice is mainly based on perceived control. How easy and safe the payment method feels are the main factors that impacts the choice. Behavioral design does not seem to have a direct impact on the choice of payment method for the users in this study, probably because the habits and attitudes that they already have are well-grounded. However, if behavioral design had an impact in forming the habits and attitudes from the start is something the result from this study cannot answer.

Abstract:
Future manufacturing will be characterized by the complementarity between humans and automation (human-robot collaboration). This requires new methods and tools for the design and operation of optimized manufacturing workplaces in terms of ergonomics, safety, efficiency, complexity management and work satisfaction. There have been some efforts in the recent years to propose a tool for determining optimal human-automation levels for load balancing. Although the topic is quite new, it shares some similarities with some of the existing research in the area of robotic assembly line balancing. Therefore, it is crucial to review the existing literature and find the most similar models and methods to facilitate the development of new optimization models and algorithms. One of the two contributions that this thesis gives to the research world in the RALBP context is a literature review that involves high quality articles from 1993 to beginning 2018. This literature review includes visual and comprehensive tables—and a label system— where previous research patterns and trends are highlighted. Visualization of data and results obtained by assembly line optimization tools is a very important topic that has rarely been studied. Data visualization would provide a: 1. better comprehension of patterns, trends and qualitative data 2. more constructive information absorption 3. better visualization of relationships and patterns between operations, and 4. better contribution to data manipulation and interaction. The second contribution to research found in this thesis is the use of a human modelling (DHM) tool (called IPS), which is proposed as an assessment to the ergonomic risk that a robotic assembly line may involve. This kind of studies are necessary in order to reduce one of the most frequent reasons of work absence in our today society i.e. musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). MSDs are often the result of poor work environments and they lead to reduced productivity and quality losses at companies. In view of the above, IPS was used in order to resolve the load handling problem between human and robot, depending on their skills and availability, while fulfilling essential ISO standards i.e. 15066 and 10218:1 and :2. The literature review made it possible to select highly useful documents in developing assumptions for the experiment and contributed to consider real features detected in the industry. Results show that even though IPS is not capable of calculating an entire robotic assembly with human-robot collaboration, it is able to simulate a workstation constituted of one robot and one human. Finite and assembly motions for both human and robot are expected to be implemented in future versions of the software. Finally, the main advantages of using DHM tools in assessing ergonomic risks in RALB can be extracted from the results of this thesis. This advantages include 1. ergonomic evaluation for assembly motions 2. ergonomic evaluation for a full working day (available in future version) and 3. essential ISO standard testing (available in future version).

[EN] The digitisation of HR processes into cloud-based solutions is progressing continuously. This thesis examines such transformations, derives a concrete process model and identifies the critical success factors. The methodology used for the investigation is of a qualitative nature. As a basis and preparatory measure to address the research questions, an extensive literature study in the HR field was carried out, with a special focus on publications on electronic human resources management (hereinafter e-HRM). Based on this knowledge and the combination of extensive practical experience with HR transformation projects, a study was published which presents the historical development of e-HRM and derived an optimised process model taking into account the technical HR requirements as well as the limitations of the new cloud technology. Subsequently, several HR experts who had already gained first-hand experience with HR processes in a cloud environment were interviewed to find out which success factors were relevant for such an HR transformation. Main findings of this thesis are the derivation of a best-practice project procedure model for the transformation of HR processes into a cloud-based solution and the identification of potential obstacles in the implementation of such projects. In addition, the motives for such a transformation, the drivers within an organisation, the current degree of HR digitisation, the necessary operational and strategic parameters and ultimately the impact on working methods are worked out. As a further result, an assessment of the use of HR metrics is given and potential new key figures are derived.

According to various studies at a national and international level after the appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic, electronic commerce has considerably increased its potential, since the current situation leads to avoiding crowds as much as possible, and electronic commerce is the perfect alternative to avoid risks. Faced with this scenario, various companies, especially SMEs, have been forced to reinforce their online sales system, either through a website or social networks. In this way, the chosen business idea seeks to implement an application, whose main purpose is to facilitate the communication process between carriers, natural persons and companies that need to make any shipment of cargo. For this reason, through the application called “U-Transfer” it is sought to generate a greater climate of trust between people and/or companies who wish to make shipments and carriers who want to expand their client portfolio, since before the appearance of Covid- 19 the first option to purchase or deliver shipments was in person. Therefore, the tools provided by the business idea seek to create bonds of trust between both parties through geolocation services, shipment auctions, real-time communication, among others. Likewise, it is intended that this tool serves to promote the electronic commerce service and be able to help avoid crowds and follow the health measures imposed by the state.

Abstract:
This thesis proposes three different data-driven solutions to be combined to state-of-the-art solvers and tools in order to primarily enhance their computational performances. The problem of efficiently designing the open sea floating platforms on which wind turbines can be mount on will be tackled, as well as the tuning of a data-driven engine's monitoring tool for maritime transportation. Finally, the activities of SAT and ASP solvers will be thoroughly studied and a deep learning architecture will be proposed to enhance the heuristics-based solving approach adopted by such software. The covered domains are different and the same is true for their respective targets. Nonetheless, the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms are shared as well as the overall picture: promote Industrial AI and meet the constraints imposed by Industry 4.0 vision. The lesser presence of human-in-the-loop, a data-driven approach to discover causalities otherwise ignored, a special attention to the environmental impact of industries' emissions, a real and efficient exploitation of the Big Data available today are just a subset of the latter. Hence, from a broader perspective, the experiments carried out within this thesis are driven towards the aforementioned targets and the resulting outcomes are satisfactory enough to potentially convince the research community and industrialists that they are not just "visions" but they can be actually put into practice. However, it is still an introduction to the topic and the developed models are at what can be defined a "pilot" stage. Nonetheless, the results are promising and they pave the way towards further improvements and the consolidation of the dictates of Industry 4.0.
