Abstract:
The purpose of this study was toexplore organizational culture in a digital context, so that a greater understanding of the relations between the two subjects could be developed. The interest for the subject came from reflections and observations obtained during a prior internship at a small organization using the digital collaboration platform Slack in their daily work. To answer the purpose of the study, one main research question; ‘What is the relationship between organizational culture and a digital communication platform as Slack?’ and two sub questions; ‘How is Slack used to solve problems with internal integration? and ‘How is Slack used to solve problems with external adaption?’ was formulated. The two sub questions came from an operationalization of Schein’s (2010, p.18) well used definition of organizational culture. By using the qualitative method netnography to study the behaviors and interactions of the members of a small organization through participating observations, in combination with the field notes and observations from the prior internship, the research questions were successfully answered. The results showed that Slack was used as a tool to maintain structure and order during problems with external adaption in form of a re-organization creating an unsecure time-period. Decrement in activity also showed that the usage of Slack was limited in time and easily could be exchanged, but that appreciated cultural rites and behaviors created from using it could live on outside of Slack. Results also showed that Slack successfully functioned as a tool to solve problems with internal integration. By allowing new members to efficiently come in contact with both the formal and informal cultural elements, the very essence of culture as in underlying assumptions was quickly taught. The efficiency of using Slack for internal integration was also shown to rely on a new possible problem in form of a disintegration between the private and work. The answer to the main research question was that Slack is an artifact, inhabiting other artifact, living in symbiosis with the organization. Even though Slack could help an organization to cope with problems of external adaption and internal integration, Slack on its own did not serve as a one single place for understanding and becoming a part of an organization and its culture, as the organization and culture still will live and develop outside of the digital medium.

Abstract:
Organizations that adopt digital innovations are facing a digital transformation, which can cause complications if not implemented in a systematic and methodical way. Due to Covid-19 organizations have had to adapt their work structure to enable personal to work from home to ensure the health of staff and customers. Covid-19 also forced organizations to accelerate their digital transformation which have led to a stressful implementation of new technology. An accelerated transformation can result in minimal effects which in turn results in failure and the organization can suffer the loss of assets, skills, and income. This case study aims to investigate how an organization in the Swedish bakery market has handled an accelerated digital transformation due to external pressure from Covid-19. Also, the study aims to investigate which relationship in the model T-O-E has the greatest impact on the organization’s technology adaptation. Seven hypotheses and one null hypothesis were generated based on theory and previous research. To answer these, a web-based quantitative survey was conducted consisting of 59 questions, measuring 18-character traits, which in turn examine five dimensions, (1) the digital transformation process, (2) individual impediments, (3) the organization’s obstacles and opportunities as well as the competence and incompetence imbedded in the organization, (4) perceived usability and user-friendliness and (5) Covid-19. The questionnaire was then analysed to find mean, standard deviation, percentage, and correlation. The result show that the company has successfully accomplished the transformation and this despite that all theory goes against this accomplishment, and sates that an accelerated digital transformation would result in failure. Furthermore, the result show that external pressures (in this case Covid-19) in T-O-E had the greatest impact on the organization's success and was the reason that the implementation succeeded without major complications. It turned out that the degree of complexity of the technology played a big role in the company's success. Because if the technology had maintained a greater degree of complexity, the company would probably not have been as successful. In conclusion, the factor Organization played a crucial role in the adoption of the technology, because the management despite a forced accelerated digital transformation managed to generate a smart leadership and an ideal culture, that caused most of the staff to experience the transformation positively. The study shows that companies do not need strategic analysis to be successful in a transformation, but on the other hand, a threefold symbiosis of technology, organization & Covid-19 is required to succeed with a forced accelerated transformation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis has been to explore how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the leadership and the direction of the organization.   The Covid-19 pandemic has affected various parts of the leadership. The results clearly indicate that managers feel overloaded since they have to handle a lot of administrative tasks and alternating meetings. Due to lack of time and balance between work and private life, the ability to have a holistic view, interpret and take in perspectives from outside-in and inside-out has been a challenge for the leaders. The results also indicated the need for clear communication between the leaders and the employees and their customers about what actions are required in order to adapt to the new situation that the pandemic has imposed.   During the pandemic the organizations were forced to take fast action based on the regulations and restrictions from the Public Health Agency and the government. Established digital channels were used but new digital channels had to be identified to create interaction and relations within the organization and with the customers.  The fast transformation to the digital world has affected the direction of the organization to think differently and be more flexible and adaptable to new unexpected changes, such as the pandemic. The organizations have used key indicators to identify and get a clear picture of how the pandemic has affected the direction of the organization internally and externally towards its customers. This new digital transformational shift has also forced the customers to enter new digital platforms and interact online with the organizations. The new digital awareness from the customers has induced new digital requirements and services which in turn have resulted in the need for new digital self-services and a higher and stronger digital competence from the organizations customer service.   A contributing discussion to the organizations and to the society is to refer to the concept of profitability as a value-creating effect sustainable over time, connected by three elements: leadership, direction of the organization and customer need.

Abstract:
Digital certificates lie at the heart of security where effective security culture enables digital certificates to be widely and properly deployed in organizations. Digital certificates provide a way to secure websites and bank transactions, digitally sign documents and emails, enable secure access to remote locations on the internet through VPNs by providing a means for authentication, authorization, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation. In this thesis, the barriers to an effective digital certificate security culture and the possibilities of misuse or misconception of certificates on both client and server side are investigated by first testing 49 scenarios for misuse and three for misconceptions in the network laboratory in Linnaeus University and, then by conducting a survey designed based on the eight dimensions of the Security Culture Framework. Possibilities for misuse were discovered and described in a Functional Scope Model and the most common barriers were found to be lack of funding and awareness regarding digital certificates within organizations. Overall, it was found that there is high usage, willingness and motivation in regards to certificates in organizations in Sweden but the quality of the digital certificate security culture needs to be improved.

Abstract:
The main objective of this work was to describe and comprehend the way through which forms of sociation are constituted and maintained in an organization named Casa da Cultura Digital (CCD) situated in Porto Alegre. Thus, the specific objectives were: to describe sociabilities and conflicts as forms of sociation; to describe the peculiarities of the way CCD is organized; and, comprehend the meanings that CCD plays to its members. These objectives are based on the directions of the “theoretical lenses” which search to comprehend the life styles and forms of living together permeated by a saturation of the individual amidst the objectifications of a modern life, which can constrain him (SIMMEL, 2005b). In certain cases, these objectifications are named forms of sociation: manners through which people associate with one another and develop contents – understood as motivations and interests – that accommodate in a certain form. When an instrumental rationality, which is part of those objectifications, displays signs of saturation, an aesthetic, playful, and presentist way of living emerges in a certain way opposing to an institutionalization, a gigantism, and an efficiency imperative. An example of this expression happens in “post-modern tribes” (MAFFESOLI, 2010b) that reveal a form of being with others permeated by a sensitive reason. In this work, both notions of forms of sociation and contemporary tribes are in focus from an example of organization named Casa da Cultura Digital, an association which seeks to perform events, lectures, meetings to inform the population about cyberculture, the use of digital means and the hacker realm – not restricted to these themes. This form of being and organizing reveals a group that seeks to express itself in its creativity, sensitiveness, hedonism, and presentist interactions, which demonstrate, beyond that, an attempt to oppose centralized and less creative forms of working, thus, formatting a different space. In this play of forms, between proximities and distances, the individual shows that when the satisfaction is not found in “traditional” realms, he searches for forms to express himself that are actualized in an organization which approaches the metaphor of a contemporary tribe constituting a form of sociation, which reveals denials and re-articulations of ways of managing.

Curtis, Lucill J. "Digital organisational storytellers : online marketing as identity work." Thesis, University of Essex, 2017. http://repository.essex.ac.uk/20037/.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis examines the effects of online marketing practices on the identity construction of individual marketers, referred to as the Digital Organisational Storyteller (DOS), across five business-to-business (B2B) organisations. I focus on illuminating their marketing processes and self-understanding when undertaking online marketing work, a practice I describe as bringing the organisation into being online. My research questions examine what the online marketing work processes the DOS undertake tell us about identity at work. They also enquire as to how they construct and understand their online identity work negotiations through these marketing activities, while considering how the DOS makes sense and gives sense to an intended audience. To investigate identity construction, I review studies on identity and identity work from organisation studies, management and social sciences’ literature. I also review marketing work, branding and co-creation literature from marketing scholarship. As the means to understand their lived experience, I study the work the DOS does, as a process of sensemaking and sensegiving through storytelling. Taking an interpretive, qualitative approach, I engage with storytelling through the methodology by asking the DOS to tell stories during the interviews. The first contribution of the thesis includes the introduction of four different character ‘types’ that summarise the way the DOS approaches sensemaking and sensegiving processes. The second contribution extends an understanding of online marketing work in contemporary B2B organisations. Accordingly, it can be categorised as a range of preparatory offline and online activities that culminate in textual and pictorial representations of the organisation, in a process described as ‘bringing the online organisation into being.’ These contributions are useful in informing our understanding of the types of identity constructions and practices that are emerging from online marketing work processes.

Abstract:
Our doctoral research is carried out within the framework of the “information society” and the “knowledge economy”. They draw a paradigm which constitutes an economical, technological, political and cultural model of development. Its success is related to the deployment of information and communication activities by the members of this society. While these activities require the use of digital libraries that contribute to the circulation of knowledge in the networked environment of the web, we have observed the conditions under which these socio-technical devices make it possible to implement information and communication processes that are in line with the information needs of users with heterogeneous informational profiles. The study of these audiences from a community typology perspective highlighted that information and communication processes and instrumental knowledge organization systems contribute to the development of epistemic communities and to the creation of informational common goods. They invite us to explore the conditions under which collective intelligence is possible. After having identified the necessary components for collective intelligence in the web's informational environment, we propose an instantiation under the form of a model dedicated to interoperability between epistemic communities

Social organizations over the years have contributed to soften the social problems in which the state alone is not able to solve them. But in order for them to work and effectively promote changes in the lives of those most in need, it is necessary to seek the resources and manage them in the best possible way. For this, the use of management tools can contribute to the administration of these organizations to overcome the challenges that require more and more professionalization. In this way, the objective of the work was to carry out a case study to verify if the business plan can help the management of a social organization in order to guarantee its sustainability. For that, the Infocenter and Digital Culture of Catalão Association (ASSINCAT) was selected, which through public policy obtained the financial resources and implemented an infocenter to promote digital inclusion in the community. According to this study, ASSINCAT is an organization whose strengths are highly qualified people, the partnership of UFG-RC, a vast field to act, but that depends on the public policies for its operation. It offers basic computer courses aiming at the qualification of labor for the labor market, arousing the interest of children, young and old to know and interact with the digital world in which many are excluded. By 2016, there were 58 courses taught and 178 students graduating. A study on the organization was elaborated regarding its operation through consultation of the documents and records of ASSINCAT. Two questionnaires were also developed and applied, one for the students and another for the teachers to know the profile, the use of the technologies and the perception of the physical, digital, human and social resources of ASSINCAT. A total of 44 completed forms were obtained from the students and 14 from the teachers, from which the results contributed to the preparation of the business plan. The results demonstrated students' satisfaction in having learned how to handle the computer and perform activities they once did not. It was also possible to verify the teachers' satisfaction of having contributed to the evolution of their students. Through the proposed business plan it was possible to verify that ASSINCAT is a viable organization and has acted with effectiveness in the digital inclusion of its user’s actions what actions are necessary to make the offered service even better and more efficient. Suggested strategies along with suggested improvements if followed will help guide your management further in improving your performance and taking advantage of opportunities so that it can continue to work and allow more people to dig into the digital universe and to transform their lives economically and socially.
Abstract: Society has witnessed a cultural change in the use of information due to new technologies, mainly to computers and Internet. In this context, preservation of digital information emerges as a great challenge to be faced by information professionals, mainly derived from the constant enhancements and changes in information and communication technology (ICT), and in the environments in which information is inserted. Along with this new challenge, a new research area has been initiated, that of digital preservation whose agenda includes problems such as obsolescence of technological equipment (hardware), of computer programs (software), of information supports and of storage formats. Besides technological problems, digital preservation involves cultural, legal and managerial aspects. Although the concerns of the Information Area on the theme have been increasing, there is a need in literature to offer a sound theoretical discussion on issues related to it, and this is the proposal which may turn this research relevant. From the infinite universe of digital preservation applicability, the environment chosen for this research was that of Higher Education Institutions (HEI), where there has been an explosion of documents in digital form produced by teaching-learning activities in graduation and post graduation programs, research projects and community services. The aim of this investigation is to propose a processual management model for digital information preservation in HEI, by means of sound theoretical research on all the aspects involved in the preservation process and on the main information management models. The model should account for any type of HEI, any type of digital document, any type of academic information, and organizational culture should guide all processes. Abstract:
Progress in digital technologies has influenced organizations and individuals alike. The focus of organizations has been to adapt to the dynamic digital landscapes; ranging from expanding the boundaries of existing markets, to conquer unexplored and unclaimed opportunities. These include collaboration in novel partnerships with external actors, creating additional value through alternative use of existing technologies and services, provided to the customer in the growing digitally interconnected ecosystem. The purpose of this work is to explore contemporary consultant’s experiences related to the digitalization of their client organizations. Which major factors, in their experience, increase the success rate of digitalization or digital transformation projects, and which factors form the greatest risks? In order to answer the research questions and thereby fulfill the purpose, a case study was performed, where eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with consultants from two firms. A thematic analysis was conducted, and the results were presented in the more general topics Perspectives on change, Change management, User involvement, Digital maturity, and Cultural aspects. These adaptations made by organizations need to be aligned with the overarching goals and values they may hold. In order for such an investment to stand a chance of being successful, support is needed from all levels of the organization. Both through the willingness to adapt, and suitability of the proposed investment. In order to provide support is through proper change management, with a specific focus on the human side of the planned change. If the implemented system or process is not being used, or not utilized as intended, the generated improvement will be less than expected. The digital strategy was argued to be of less use to the organization the less connected it was to the general strategic perspectives. The digital aspects described in such a document must be incorporated in the identity and culture of the organization to remain useful, they need to become part of their DNA.

Abstract:
This master thesis addresses the inclusion of digital communication tools in organizations and how it affects their culture and communication habits. The focus is on how the adoption of Electronic Mail, Intranet and Discussion Lists may change the processes of organizational communication by creating new cultural conventions that enable employees to participate in the communicative process. A case study at Companhia de Processamento de Dados do Rio Grande do Sul (Procergs) were conducted to evaluate how these tools were adopted, how the staff assimilated them and what cultural conventions were created by their use. This case study collected various reports given by staff members who use these tools on the daily work routine. The interviews demonstrated that digital communication tools allow a better involvement of the employees in the communication process. However, the tools by themselves do not equalize the relationship between the organization and its employees, which remains as the connecting space to communicative interaction.

Abstract:
Background – Digitalization has enabled multiple opportunities, where one opportunity is working remotely. Remote work is a concept used to describe working conditions performed outside of the traditional office walls. It has been used for many years to enable flexibility in terms of work, and thus allow workers to do their job while, for example, traveling or caring for their sick child. COVID-19 virus impacted the world in many different ways. Organizations faced forced lockdown as a recommendation, and the employees had to shift their daily routine to working primarily from home. The shift to remote work meant a decrease in physical, social interactions and less networking amongst employees. Organizational culture is a concept used to describe the fundamental values, artifacts, and internal language of an organization and one key pillar in organizational culture is the people and the social interactions within a workplace. The shift to remote work has thus created multiple gaps in research, where there is a need to understand the impact on organizations and their organizational culture.   Purpose – This thesis aims to understand the impact on organizational culture as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and shift to remote work.   Method – Empirical data was collected from a single-case interview study with employees from Jönköping International Business School. The interviewees have experienced the shift from office to remote work from home the past year, and hence contributed with valuable insights that were then used to understand the impact on the organizations’ culture. The data was analyzed using the Gioia method and hence allowed for categorization of the data.   Findings – The findings of this thesis showed that the employees experienced a digital and virtual fatigue from working virtually and remotely at home. The fatigue is based on not being able to catch smaller breaks which are engraved in the foundational culture at Jönköping International Business School, in combination with an unclear communication strategy. Furthermore, with the removal of physical presence and interactions in the employee’s daily activities, the internal relationships within Jönköping International Business School has started to fade away, and the attitude on nurturing them has also been impacted. Many attempts by the organization have been made to keep together the employees and the culture, although what is evident in the findings is that by duplicating all activities from the physical office activities to the virtual world, the experience does not give the same response virtually. In fact, it can be even more damaging to the attitude of the organization and the internal network.

Abstract:
COVID-19 brought with it lots of changes and for the business sector this meant adapting to a new reality. Within this context of uncertainty, companies were forced to act quickly and effectively to provide a safe workspace for their employees. For this reason, this research work presents the findings collected through a qualitative field work carried out with 12 collaborators with different profiles and roles in the organization. The objective was to make known the perception of the collaborators of a transnational metallurgical unit, on the management of the following categories in a context of pandemic: organizational culture, internal communication and digital transformation. The reason why the aforementioned categories were chosen was because the company had been going through a process of cultural transformation since 2019, which was impacted by the current situation. Among the main findings of the work, it was identified that the collaborators recognize leadership as an important part of the new culture and that the digital initiatives that the company had were very important to keep the business operational.

Abstract:
This study contributes to the existing literature by combining the field of digitaltransformation of the finance function and interim management. To answer the researchquestion, a qualitative multiple case-study was conducted that consisted of 10 semi-structuredinterviews with interim CFOs that have over 10 years of experience in digital transformationsof the finance function. The collected empirical evidence was analyzed through the lens ofseveral expectations derived from the first 6 steps in Kotter's (1995) 8-step change model andthrough other findings that emerged from immersing into the two separate fields of literature. The conceptual framework highlights critical aspects that organizations need to carefullyprocess to successfully conduct organizational change. The results of this research show that there are several efforts from interim CFOs as digitalchange agents helping organizations looking towards digital solutions in their financefunctions. While the interim CFOs enter organizations with a lot of necessary experience andknowledge of the available market technologies, they have an inadequate organizationalspecific knowledge, materializing in an insufficient understanding of the organizationalculture, internal systems and processes. This insufficient knowledge, in combination withbeing an external change agent and conservative tendencies within organizations gives rise toresistance towards the transformation. The interim CFOs employ change sponsors as acomplementary mechanism by which the problems revolving around the aforementionedflaws are mitigated. The underlying effort of the interim CFO is to increase the transparency, involvement and commitment throughout the transformation process. This research is anearly contribution to the nascent state of combining these two streams of literature, and thereare multiple angles of approach for future research.

Abstract:
Problem: The increasing online operations of the B2B market has led to companies being able to operate all over the world, making them exposed to various markets with different preferences of supplier relationships. For that reason, it is important for companies to consider aspects such as digitalization, culture and buyer-seller relationships when conducting business with foreign companies. One industry that has been reluctant towards this online shift is the display materials industry. However, during recent years display material suppliers operating online have become more successful. Therefore, understanding companies purchasing process when buying display material online is necessary.   Purpose: This thesis aims to explain and investigate the online organizational buying behavior of British and Swedish organizations while purchasing display materials and several factors that influence it, such as culture, digitalization and buyer-seller relationships are examined.   Method: A qualitative approach with semi-structured interview was used to conduct this research. Eight participants from British and Swedish organizations who are customers of the display material company SignMax were interviewed. The data collected has been analyzed together with literature on online organizational buying behavior and the influencing factors. Results: The findings of this research showed that the level of product involvement and national culture decides and forms the importance of the purchase, the purchasing process and the type of supplier-relationship desired. Additionally, the attitude towards digitalization and the experience of online purchases determine the level of personal contact and support. Based on the empirical analysis the findings showed that for the cases of UK and Sweden, UK was more performance-oriented in their supplier relationships and highly valued ease of use and a smooth purchasing process. Sweden on the other hand, focused more on soft-values such as personal contact and support.

Abstract:
xi, 272 p. : ill. (some col.)
This is a qualitative comparative study about perspectives and experiences of contemporary journalists at three newspapers in the United States and Japan. The newspaper industry in both the United States and Japan is going through an unprecedented transitional period driven by economic forces and technological changes. One purpose of the study is to shed light on everyday journalists who are exposed to industry-wide structural changes. Based on interviews with journalists of the three newspapers, this study explores journalists' experiences about economic and technological impacts and their perspectives about their work. Another purpose of this study is to compare and contrast these perspectives and experiences. By doing so, it is possible to examine how the interconnected economies of the countries and globally standardized technology influence the views and behavior of U.S. and Japanese journalists. Journalists of the three newspapers are confronting a dilemma between their journalistic ideals and increasing economic pressures that limit their activities. They are increasingly feeling insecure about employment in the newspaper industry. They show different attitudes toward employment with their newspapers. Journalists at the U.S. newspaper think of changing careers for better job security, while Japanese journalists seek solutions within the company, rather than leaving. This indicates that U.S. journalists have more freedom to choose, while Japanese journalists are bound to their company partly because of hiring and training practices specific to Japanese newspapers. Journalists have contradictory views about technological development. While they appreciate increased productivity brought by digital technology, they feel their labor has been cheapened partly because of the same technology. Similarities in journalists' experiences beyond newspapers and national borders occur as a result of homogenous impacts of interconnected economies of the two countries and globally standardized technology. However, shared ideas, values and norms specific to the workplace play an important role in determining journalists' perspectives and social behavior. This is why journalists' perspectives and attitudes vary by newspaper. This study concludes by emphasizing the importance of labor studies of newspaper journalists as information providers who are expected to make democracy function.

Claims of customization and control by socio-technical industries are altering the role of consumer and producer. These narratives are often misleading attempts to engage consumers with new forms of technology. By addressing capitalist intent, material, and the reproduction limits of 3-D printed objects’, I observe the aspirational promise of becoming a producer of my own belongings through new networks of production. I am interested in gaining a better understanding of the data consumed that perpetuates hyper-consumptive tendencies for new technological apparatuses. My role as a designer focuses on the resolution of not only the surface of the object through 3-D printing, but the social implications to acknowledge consequential conditions of new forms of consumer technology.

Abstract:
Today, the current energy situation is particularly difficult for major French energy players. Indeed, they have to face high energy prices - that go up and down -, have to look at renewable energies – by integrating them into their energy mix or into their distribution model - and digitize to manage their customer relations - customers’ behavior has changed and utilities have to adapt to this new behavior. They must respond to these problems while being confronted with the arrival of new entrants to the energy market: multiplication of energy players but also appearance of players in telecommunications, data…. To cope with this energy revolution, the great French utilities have no choice but to transform themselves. They must evolve technologically, digitally and also organically, structurally and culturally. The strategy of major historical energy players is therefore completely redesigned in order to give them the possibility of remaining competitive in their market and not losing their place in this revolution. They have to adapt to these new challenges and to transform themselves. Major French energy players, as ENGIE, EDF and RTE, have already started to imagine and implement new strategies to face the current energy challenges. Operational strategy consulting firms such as Weave are there to assist them in their transformation. The consultants of Weave carry out indeed numerous missions to answer the problems of these companies. Weave is here to help these companies to evolve and transform by giving them accompaniment throughout a good overview of the current energy market and current challenges of the society. Weave helps the major French energy actors to deploy new strategies, from the design of the strategy to its implementation. Indeed, Weave has developed a recognized expertise to accompany its clients in the energy transition and respond to the challenges of development and transformation of their value chain. On the basis of innovative offers, Weave intervenes with general management and dedicated businesses.

Abstract:
The rapid development of today’s society is accelerated with digitalization and the customers have more possibilities to compare businesses with each-other than before. The focus on Customer Experience have increased in popularity during the last decade and an increasing number of companies have begun to consider the importance of their customers, the society, and their personnel. This study explores the customer experience in two companies in different industries and how it can be expanded to increase competitiveness and the emotional value towards the customers. An energy company and a bank are compared regarding their operations surrounding customer focus and employee commitment to identify challenges and possibilities in combination to increased digitalization. This study investigates how Customer Experience Management can be introduced, which is a corporate strategy to lift the emotional aspects of a company in order to increase the connection to its customers. The study compares two companies through qualitative interviews and a quantitative employee survey to answer three research questions; (1) the current way in which the companies operate, (2) possibilities to develop through Customer Experience Management, and finally (3) how digital tools can be introduced in order to elevate the customer experience. The analysis combines the empirical findings with literature and theories to enable development for businesses who aim to increase their customer focus and customer experience concerning customer service and the organization. The findings of this study show that the companies have opportunities to progress in areas such as strategic focus, organizational culture and the potential to implement digital tools in order to increase the customer experience. Important factors which are considered drivers in the customer experience are ways to increase the customer satisfaction and loyalty, the commitment and motivation of the employees, as well as expressed strategies to saturate the organization. An increased focus on emotional value creation is considered crucial for companies to differentiate and increasing their competitiveness.

Abstract:
Multinational or transnational companies, whose number is constantly increasing, have the particularity of having employees working on different continents, having different rhythms and culture. More and more employees are required to work in multicultural and remote teams as part of their business activities. These same companies are looking for the best operational performance and the deployment of the Lean approach is a recognised lever for obtaining the best performance in a sustainable manner and has been for decades. In parallel, since the development of the Internet and digital technologies, new tools have become avaible to collect and analyse data or to manufacture. Within companies, while the impacts are often processed separately, it is indeed in a systemic way and at the same time that the cultural dimensions, the deployment of Lean and the implementation of tools linked to the digital era. With the ultimate aim of sustainable performance it is the efficiency of the system as a whole that is at stake. This thesis proposes to review of industrial situations, and to propose an support for the evaluation and consistent implementation of all three elements i.e culture, Lean and digitalization

Creton, Caroline. "Approche communicationnelle des scènes musicales locales face à l’offre médiatique numérique : le cas nantais." Thesis, Rennes 2, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019REN20044.

Full text
Abstract:
Since the emergence of popular music in the 1960s, it has taken a significant place in social life. Beyond the production of actors with proven industrial logics, whether it be recorded music or live performance, there have been many initiatives that fully participate in musical life. This forms cultural dynamics within the territories where heterogeneous actors mix. Apprehended as local scenes in this work, they are addressed within their communicative dimension. However, the communicative practices of the scenes have been largely renewed with the diffusion of digital technology. Indeed, these actors were able to access media spaces for promotion and broadcasting that they quickly appropriated. The deployment of digital uses within scenes raises several levels of questioning that structure the thesis. First, it will question how the scenes use the industrial offer of the communication actors, then in return to analyse how the industrial logics of the latter operate on the local scenes. Thus, this work combines a critical approach to cultural production from the margin with a communicative approach to this social context. To that end, this thesis intersects two theoretical sets of information and communication science : the cultural industries theory and the communication of organisations

Abstract:
In 2016, the Walt Disney Company launched Shanghai Disneyland--the company’s first theme park in mainland China. Entering mainland China poses significant political and cultural challenges for American companies. To address these challenges, Disney pursued a “glocalization” strategy -- it accounted for local norms and values in launching Shanghai Disneyland. This paper examines how Shanghai Disneyland constructed its brand narrative to negotiate tensions in this glocalization process. A semiotic analysis of two Shanghai Disneyland commercials illustrates the ways in which Disney tapped into culturally meaningful themes of harmonic balance and collective identity to produce the park’s brand narrative--“China’s Disneyland.” A thematic analysis also considers how Chinese citizens engaged with that brand narrative on the popular Chinese social network, Weibo. Citizens engaged with this brand narrative in ways that deviate somewhat from Disney’s messaging, such as by avoiding depictions of people in the park. Still, even these deviations aligned with and reinforced the cultural values in the “China’s Disneyland” brand narrative. The study underscores the importance strategically adjusting brand narratives for new markets and accounting for users’ engagement with those narratives.

In 21st century, much unusual weather phenomena can be seen around the world, and disaster risk caused by climate has become an essential international issue. For example, Typhoon Morakot in 2009, it careered very slowly, and had amazing rainfall simultaneously in a short time so that causing serious loss of life and property in southern Taiwan. Severe damages caused by Typhoon Morakot is limited by lack of an effective information delivery pipeline is worthy of attention. That is, traditional official information transmission system seemed to be unable to response to influx of disaster message. If people use unofficial network to convey information about those need help, showing our government doesn’t have a robust information pipeline under its policy implementation as facing climate risk to completely meet needs. Whenever a disaster occurs, central government uses three systems such as civil, police, and fire to collect information. Moreover, they use satellite phone, cars and other communications platforms as contact medium. In Typhoon Morakot event, satellite phones and communication platform cars generated much obstacle on external communications because of rainy days. Association of Digital Culture Taiwan stationed in Central and local Emergency Operation Center is unique which integrated disaster information by setting up their website and information platform after reviewing news. Moreover, what information capability does Association of Digital Culture Taiwan obtain to help our government collect information? Why could Association of Digital Culture Taiwan obtain recognitions of agencies and station in government emergency operation center? In this study, we have preliminary exploration at Association of Digital Culture Taiwan through related literature and in-depth interviews. On the one hand, understanding how is information ability inside Association of Digital Culture Taiwan? On the other hand, finding what important factors affect whether Association of Digital Culture Taiwan can be adopted in Emergency Operation Center . Finally, observing results in typhoon Marakot period, Association of Digital Culture Taiwan through technology capacity, using other NPO’s budget and resources, and command by leaders to help passing difficulties. In other words, some actions in information passing by Association of Digital Culture Taiwan affect our society. Therefore, government needs supports from NPO and keeping much message from the government and promoting operation.

Full text
Abstract:
Employing institutional ethnography as an analytic frame, this study explicates the disjuncture felt by bisexual-identified individuals between their lived actualities and the textual realities stemming from the binary model of sexuality. This study also explores the role of online journal communities, including the capabilities and limits of this type of venue, as a rolling text that coordinates the narratives created there around bisexuality and bisexual-identification. Finally, this study critically examines the collaborative development of an experience-based discourse on bisexuality as produced by text-based identity work. Through the coordination of bisexual identity work taking place online, the venue facilitates the production of an alternative discourse that is differentiated from other sexuality discourses in its demonstration of fluidity, multiplicity, and resistance to order. In its differences from, rather than its similarities to, governing sexuality discourses, this bisexual discourse-in-production creates the possibility for a radical reconceptualization of sexuality and sexual-identification.

Petkova, Iva Ognianova. "Co-Creating Strategy and Culture in New Technology Regimes on the Internet: How New Digital Entrepreneurs affect Mature Incumbents in the Fashion Industry." Thesis, 2014. https://doi.org/10.7916/D8NZ85PN.

Abstract:
One of the least understood aspects of knowledge management in organizational research and the sociology of innovation is to explain how new technology paradigms facilitate the creation and adoption of new regimes and business practice of innovation by old firms. When innovation regimes are started up by cohesive communities of collaborators, born-online and born-global, the relationship is even less understood. My research explores how some of the largest fashion-technology start-ups on the Internet create and spread new technology and practice in digital marketing and e-commerce to vertically integrated, transnational fashion industry leaders. I bridge innovation and economic sociology with international business and strategic management to explain how Ron Burt's "good ideas" are actually generated and meaningfully reapplied by emerging new entrants in the organizational practice of established incumbent fashion firms from Europe and the US. The fashion industry is an extreme case-study offering an ideal context to investigate these emergent processes, revealing the dynamic relationship between innovation and change. The research posits that executives in established organizations in this context can manage the tension between challenge and opportunity of adopting disruptive practice by learning to manage collaboratively the parts of their value chains that are most affected by the entrepreneurial creativity of new peers.

Everyone knows that the world is in constant development. The evolution is part of the generational cycles and is verified in all the areas of activity, on a world scale. On the other hand, Globalization posed new challenges to the world, namely the economy in general and companies in particular. This dissertation will allow us to develop the theme of Communication in Organizations, explaining the emergence of internal communication and its practices to date. It is common in business language and in the Human Resources area to talk a lot about the importance of internal communication, but we know little about it, more concretely what the changes were implemented, the rules of operation, their impact on employees and, especially in the success of institutions or organizations. Thus, it was decided to speak of Organizational Changes and Impact in Organizations, always with the focus on internal communication

Abstract Herding, literally refers to behavior of following others act and making same decision (Banerjee, 1992). Thus, social psychologists consider cause of herding is mainly due to fear of wrong decision-making (Asch, 1951). However, past researches mostly stressed on study of individual behavior and lacking in studies of herding within enterprises or organizations. Generally, the enterprise managing principle is based on competitiveness, and should be unique and exclusive. Same management strategy may not be applicable to others. Thus, herding cannot and should not exist in enterprise decision-making. But, herding in decision-making still can be easily found in those commonly recognized as high efficiency and fruitful enterprises. As from management pattern and new line of products, herding influence can be easily detected, i.e. enterprises of the same trade making almost the same approach on similar issue. Walden & Browne (2002) has pointed out that enterprises / organizations will apply a new process or technique because of the current trend motivation. In view of above, this research draws up the further investigation of antecedents of herding in organizational decision-making. By analysis and evaluation of correlate literature, this research will try to dig out if development of enterprise is well behind the other trades, due to limited information, and in order to minimise the trading cost and uncertainty; will the influence of herding in decision-making largely enhance ? Since corporate culture is the key to open organization pledge, trade value influence and management achievement promotion; during organizational decision-making, what type of enterprise culture will create the herding phenomenon ? This research will take the example of IT decision of domestic securities firms introducing voice trading system and aided with five stages classification of Duffision of Innovations by Roger (1995), using the squential order of voice trading system introduced by local securities firms as a root judgement of herding to testify the structure of this research. Firstly, carry out professional discussion with high ranking managers of 4 picked securities firms, and issue questionnaire to the members of the attending securities firm decision-making teams. From their feed-back analysis, it indicates that digital divide and corporate culture within the decision-making team will definitely cause herding in decision-making. The greater digital divide in senior members will adhere to herding in decision-making more easily. Though, this research cannot prove the close relationship between corporate culture and herding in organizational decision-making. However, bureaucrats and supportives in corporate culture are positively relate to herding in organizational decision-making. As for innovatives and effectives, they are just on the other (negative) side of herding. This research will further pin-point above findings as to bring forward possible investigation implications and substantial proposal as well as providing objectives and guideline to future researches.

Abstract:
Western research dominates in areas of theories and models which describe organisational behaviours, human resource management and workplace participation. However the 21st century brings new challenges. Findings to-date suggest that attitudes and values are strongly culture specific therefore many facets now require re-thinking by human resource specialists and organisational behavioural theorists. For instance, the globalisation of the market economy has dramatically changed the contemporary business environment. As a direct consequence of the globalisation process, the nature of organisational structures and workforce diversity has also changed. Such changes may make the application of Western theories less relevant to explain behaviours and attitudes of contemporary employees around the world. Therefore, there is a need for expanding our cross-cultural understanding in order to provide practical knowledge to enhance people and business management so that organisations can remain successful nationally and internationally. Comparative cross-cultural studies are required to expand on Western theories and models. The present study acknowledged and regarded the importance of cross-cultural studies to date, and endeavoured to expand on the extant knowledge by providing specific information relating to two diverse countries. The aim of the research project is to examine two measurable areas of organisational behaviours namely leadership styles and managerial career aspirations of female and male managers in Malaysia and Australia to explore the similarities and differences between the groups. The study found differences within and between female and male managers in Malaysia and Australia in terms of leadership styles, perception of effectiveness, perceptions towards managerial career aspirations and perceived promotion opportunities during the quantitative and qualitative data collection stages. The study concludes by providing empirical evidence to refute the universality of Western theories and models in all cultures. The analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data revealed significant differences in terms of values, behaviours and attitudes of managers in the two diverse cultures which have important implications for work and employment. This suggests that Western theories and models of organisational behaviour and workplace participation are not universally applicable, appropriate or relevant in all cultural environments. Implications for theory and practice in the light of an enhanced cross-cultural understanding were recommended.

Abstract:
The present thesis investigates the major factors that can help firms to more effectively cope with fast-changing environments, through the analysis of a case study. More precisely, Ceridian Inc ’s transformation and evolution in the HCM market over the last years is being analyzed because it allows to connect academic material with real world scenarios. As a foundation of the present study, several theoretical perspectives and concepts have been discussed, including Strategic Change, Organizational Agility and Dynamic Capabilities. Data and information concerning the organization were collected through multiple sources, including the company’s website, press releases and articles and a personal interview. The case explores the importance of developing DCs and an innovative organizational culture in fast-paced environments. It also stresses the key role played by constant efforts on R&D and a strong focus on both customer and employee experience. This case study adds to the body of research providing a real-life example of a firm whose approach has “challenged” the traditional perspectives towards change, which generally lie on assumptions mainly based on stability and routine. Instead, Ceridian HCM Inc. kept being updated, proactive and agile over time, developing a culture of innovation, considering the overall ecosystem characterized by “ongoing, evolving, and cumulative” change, as a demonstration that, approaching change, both on a micro and macro level, can allow firms to better cope with the current business environment

Abstract:
This report aims to describe the professional experience of a six- months internship of the student Pedro Gomes Ferreira at the Spanish VR company Xperiencia Virtual, from September 2019 to March 2020. The present document describes the student’s experience, the company, and all the projects developed during those six months. Thus, the process of integration in the team, the company’s structure, and the impact of the content created in the digital market are addressed. Afterward, topics related to the evolution of the technologies under study, in particular, Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality technologies are referred and discussed, as well as their advantages, limitations, impact in the world, and what is expected to be their evolution in the future. From an extended analysis of the state-of-art of XR technologies in the different industries, a Draft Functional Model was designed regarding the procedures workflow and company organization ideally involved in the development of an XR project. For its design, the findings obtained through the analysis of three case studies of XR projects developed in the company were also taken into account, allowing them to deconstruct the different tasks of a project. This model was later put to test with an experts’ survey and consequently improved as an Extended and Optimized Functional Model. With this report, the student intends to achieve a Master’s degree in Interaction Design.
