Abstract:
Purpose: Development, testing methodology for the definition of energy expenditure on hydrostatic drive of cooling device motor fans of diesel locomotive TEP70BS. Energy expenditures on drive of cooling devices motor-fans constitute significant part in the total volume of energy expenditures for auxiliary needs. When determining diesel cooling device power, picked for motor-fan drive, it is necessary to take into account the influence of motor-fan drive technical condition and diesel cooling system general technical condition. The given task can be solved by the way of statistical analysis of the information, being registered by TEP70BS locomotive on-board diagnostics subsystem when performing corresponding analytical calculations. At the same, it is necessary to account for the peculiarities of functioning of motor-fan hydrostatic drive under various loading modes. Methods: Statistical processing and analysis of measurement results. Analytical calculation of a hydrostatic system on the basis of processing of measurement results. Reduction of hydrostatic drive parameters to non-nominal modes. Results: Methodology of energy expenditure analytical calculation on the basis of statistical analysis of data on motor fan operating modes is proposed. Probable values of power, spent on motor-fan drive for various controller positions, are determined. It is shown that for controller nominal position, average power consumption for being considered sample of five locomotives will constitute 23.2 kW per two fan motors. Practical importance: The use of the presented methodology allows to raise significantly the determination accuracy for power, being picked for auxiliary needs and, as a result, to increase calculation accuracy for traction characteristics and fuel consumption characteristics of TEP70BS diesel locomotive.

Abstract:
Purpose: To develop methodology for determining the actual resistance of traction electric drive (TED) circuits of a locomotive with electric power transmission and with refined calculation of voltage losses of a collector-brush apparatus according to microprocessor control system data. These data are necessary for calculating actual traction characteristics of a locomotive as well as its braking characteristics in electric braking modes. Methods: Methods of electric machine theory, statistical processing and regression analysis of experimental data were used. Results: Based on the statistical analysis of registration data of on-board diagnostics subsystem of 20 sections of 2TE116U and TEP70BS diesel locomotives, methods for determining resistance factual value for traction electric drive circuit as well as methods of refined calculation for voltage losses in a collector-brush apparatus are proposed and justified. The hypothesis on distribution normal law for the value of resistance and the possibility to use its mathematical expectation as an estimated value is confirmed. The limits of resistance possible changes for TED circuits of diesel locomotives 2TE116U and TEP70BS have been established. Practical significance: The results obtained allow us to clarify energy loss amounts in a locomotive traction drive when calculating its traction and braking characteristics. Data on the limits, allowed in exploitation, of active resistance change for TED serviceable chains may be used for operative diagnostics of locomotive power circuit.

This paper analyzes the principle of hybrid turbocharging system in a vehicle diesel engine, and proposes motor control model about hybrid turbocharging system in steady engine operation condition according to energy imbalance of the exhaust gas. The high-speed motor can work as a motor or a generator in this control model of different engine condition. Then mapping algorithms about n-dimensional linear interpolation and BP neural network are presented to solve steady condition control problem of the hybrid turbocharging system. Each algorithm is applied to map same sample data, the simulation results reveal that BP neural network mapping algorithm is more suitable for the mapping control of hybrid turbocharging system because BP neural network has better generalization ability and faster processing speed.

Abstract:
Depo Lokomotif is a work unit that is responsible for locomotive reliability in running the railroad transportation operational business. According to internal monthly report data from February 2019 to February 2020, there were 6 cases of weak locomotive power disruptions that caused operational delays. Analysis was carried out on the CC203 locomotive propulsion system in order to obtain the value of the power reduction in one case of disturbance by comparing the output value against the set standard value. Using mathematical calculation methods from the applicable equations and processing the data on MS.Excell. From the results of the study, the cause of the decrease in locomotive power is due to a decrease in the excitation value so that it affects the output value of the Main Generator at each Notch and has an impact on the motor traction power supply also decreases. The Main Generator can only issue a maximum Horse Power at Notch 8 of 1389.96 HP from 1985.31 HP with a decrease of 595 HP. The electric motion of the generator exciter has the largest decrease at Notch 7 of 6.02 volts from 30.48 volts to 24.46 volts. Motor traction can only output a maximum terminal power of 985.067 Watt from 1407 KWatt. The maximum electromagnetic torque of the Notch 8 motor traction is 2855.48 N.m in the series transition and 3070.21 N.m in the parallel transition. Losses on a series transition of 36886 Watts and a parallel transition of 9122 Watts.

Teluk Lembu Gas Power Plant (PLTG) is one type of power plant that uses the power of burning fuel and high pressure air. To be able to meet the needs of electrical energy on the island of Sumatra, especially in the Riau region, electricity production must not experience a decrease in productivity due to equipment damage. Obstacles that arise are frequent downtime unexpectedresulting in the production of electricity is interrupted or even to cause derating caused by damage to the operational when the engine is running. This study aims to provide recommendations for equipment maintenance andtime intervals optimal inspectionin the generator system. The research method used is Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) withanalysis quantitative. Where are the stages of implementing the RCM method, namely determining thecomponents criticalin the PLTG generator engine, determining thevalues, determining the Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)time interval optimal maintenance, and making a table of causes of damage to thecomponents generator engine. After analyzing it, it was found that thecomponent criticalof PLTG Teluk Lembu is the Diesel Motor. This is obtained based on the component with the highest frequency of damage, namely 13 damage during a period of 1 year. From the results of data processing, it is obtained that the MTTF value is 0.92441 hours and the MTTR value is 0.89014 hours. Theinspection time interval optimalis 25 days, so it is advisable to carry out Corrective and Preventive maintenance activities for Diesel Motorcycles periodically every 25 days (PM 25D) in order to increase the reliability of the Diesel Motor

Abstract --- The limited land has opened up scientists' insight that in farming it is not only land that can be relied on as a planting medium. There are still other growing media, such as cocopeat. However, cocopeat engine products that are sold are very expensive, large in size and not environmentally friendly because they use gasoline or diesel engines which cause a lot of pollution in the air and produce noise when operating, therefore a cheap, quality and environmentally friendly Cocopeat engine is needed. maintenance is cheap and safe. The purpose of this study was to increase the production of cocopeat for planting media as a substitute for soil and efficient cocopeat machine which is automatic, cheap and environmentally friendly. The research method is data collection, literature study and then design with a 1 phase pK electric motor circuit design, infrared sensor, 1 channel relay module and serrations from a sharpened nail that rotates when the electric motor is run. Abstract Currently, most methods for assessing the content of harmful substances in the exhaust gases (EG) of diesel internal combustion engines (DICE) differ in research programs that simulate the most significant operating modes of a tractor or motor vehicle DICE in ordinary operating conditions. And to assess their toxicity, such different methods are used as a study under steady-state operating modes that ensure the constancy of the performance of a DICE, and its study under changing parameters in transient modes. DICE of tractors, self-propelled agricultural machines and other off-road equipment are tested at a stand equipped with a loading device and measuring instruments for monitoring tests and collecting data necessary for processing test results. Emissions are determined during the sequential operation of the DICE at steady-state modes. Each mode has its own weighting coefficient, which characterizes the contribution of this mode to environmental pollution during the operation of a DICE.

Abstract:
The creation of modern mathematical models of unsteady high-pressure fuel injection in engines requires the replacement of universal empirical equations for one of the elastic properties of fuel by a mathematically more correct equation of state. The necessity of the existence and use of convenient and simple forms of the equation of state, allowing the values of density, compressibility factor and sound velocity of traditional and alternative fuels for diesel engines to be determined quickly and with sufficient accuracy, has been substantiated. Modern approaches to the description of the state of droplet and two-phase liquids are analyzed. The absence of phase transitions in the process of fuel delivery under high pressures has allowed to substantiate the possibility of using the equation of state for the forward and backward account. An equation of state adequate to processes with high and ultrahigh pressures (up to 400 MPa) and moderately high temperatures (up to 460 K) has been proposed. The equipment used and the method of obtaining empirical information through determination of the current sound velocity are described. A method for calculating the values of constants of the chosen form of the equation of state in the form of expressions determining their dependence on temperature and an algorithm for calculating the constants of the equation of state in processing experimental data are presented. Based on literature data, as well as the results of studies conducted, sets of empirical equation of state constants for 49 diesel fuels, various test and technical fluids, and alternative motor fuels are obtained

Abstract:
At present, the disposal of polymer and rubber waste, and especially automobile tires, is one of the most acute environmental problems. These types of waste pollute the environment both when they are stored at landfills and during subsequent disposal, especially if it is carried out in the form of incineration. Therefore, at present, much attention is paid to thermal methods of their processing. The results of the study of liquid product of pyrolysis of tires of Kuznetskecology+ LLC are presented in the work. During its distillation, the following fractures were obtained (the yield wt% is indicated in parentheses): petroleum (4), gasoline (21), kerosene (18), diesel (47), fuel oil (10), for which the refractive index was determined and a conclusion about their chemical composition was drawn. When analyzing the data obtained during the analysis of liquid pyrolysis product and its fractions, as well as on the basis of published data, possible chemical reactions occurring during vulcanized rubber pyrolysis are proposed. Research results show that pyrolysis products are valuable chemical raw materials that have great prospects for industrial use, including the production of synthetic motor fuels.

Most buildings such as hospitals, hotels, governmental offices, data processing rooms, etc, are equipped with internal combustion engines, diesel motors and generators to supply energy in emergencies. These same IC engines are used for industrial applications, building services and transportation. Exhaust noise are the predominant noise source with most internal combustion engines and thus exhaust systems incorporating mufflers have been designed to reduce the noise. This paper describes the analysis of several configurations of mufflers and also presents comparisons between the results for the transmission loss obtained by numerical modelling (FEM), Transfer Matrix Method (TMM) and measurements.

Abstract:
In recent years, due to growing environmental awareness regarding global warming, green cars, such as hybrid electric vehicles, have gained a lot of importance. With the decreasing cost of rare earth magnets, brushless permanent magnet motors, such as the Interior Permanent Magnet Motor, have found usage as part of the traction drive system in these types of vehicles. As a design issue, building a motor with a performance curve that suits both city and highway driving has been treated in this thesis as a multi-objective problem; matching specific points of the torque-speed curve to the desired performance output. Conventionally, this has been treated as separate problems or as a combination of several individual problems, but doing so gives little information about the trade-offs involved. As a means of identifying the compromising solutions, we have developed a stochastic optimizer for tackling electromagnetic device optimization and have also demonstrated a new innovative way of studying how different design parameters affect performance.

Abstract:
This study used the word processor as a tool for written output to examine the effects of an experiential 'Write to Read' program on typing performance, decoding strategies and successive processing in learning disordered children with motor dysfunction. A case history approach was taken in view of the small number of subjects available, and in order to adequately describe each individual's unique and complex cognitive motor profile. Subjects involved in the study were three male students in a Junior Learning Assistance Class in a Lower Mainland British Columbia school district elementary school. Each of the students had a history of poor motor performance, poor handwriting and delayed reading ability. The three subjects were involved in an eight week intervention program which taught keyboarding and word processing techniques using the 'Write to Read' program, a systematic method of training the motor skills required. It was hypothesized that, if the learning disabled student with poor motor skills could use the word processor as an adjunct to handwriting, the improved legibility would facilitate consistent decoding by the student of his own work, reinforcing acquisition of early reading skills. Within the case history format, a theoretical frame of reference based on the simultaneous - successive information processing model was chosen and a limited time series design measured the effects of the intervention on successive processing as determined by a block sequencing task (Das, Kirby and Jarman, 1980). The data was collected for each student and graphed for visual inspection, graphic analysis and statistical analysis. One subject showed a stable and significant intervention effect, and no stable trends or significant results for successive processing were found in the other two subjects. Rates of word processing output increased over the course of the study and the number of errors declined. All subjects made progress in measures of decoding and word analysis. Implications for future research and professional practice were described.

Abstract:
The estimated position of an industrial robot’s end-effector is crucial for its performance. Contemporary methods for doing the estimation is limited in certain aspects, and alternative methods are in high demand. This work builds on a method previously introduced where an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) device is combined with the robot’s system via sensor fusion. The IMU must be calibrated before its signal is used in sensor fusion and this work implements and builds on current cutting-edge methods for calibration. Sensor fusion is a crucial part of the method and here a complementary filter is used. The finished estimation is then used with Iterative Learning Control (ILC) to investigate if the accuracy can be further improved and also test its viability. Results from ILC show that the IMU can indeed be used to estimate the end-effector's trajectory but that sensor fusion is mandatory. Further research could be done to allow the estimation to be done online instead of offline and ILC could be tested more extensively.

O'Brien, Marita A. "Effects of Shape, Letter Arrangements, and Practice on Text Entry on a Virtual Keyboard." Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/11499.

Abstract:
This research study examined the design of a virtual keyboard that can be used for text entry with a rotary controller, particularly when users may differ in age and experience with a particular system. I specifically examined the shape and letter arrangement on the virtual keyboard to help determine the best features to use in a design. Two keyboard shapes, an Oval and a Plus, were selected to represent different aspects of the shape. Two keyboard arrangements, Alphabetic and a Standard QWERTY-based ordering, were selected to represent a well-known and less familiar arrangement. In the experiment, older and younger adults entered words over two consecutive days. Most of the time, they used either the Oval or the Plus, but they also used the alternate shape at specific points during their practice session to allow assessment of their ability to transfer what they had learned. At the end of the second day, they also used a variation of the practiced arrangement to examine how well they had learned the letter arrangement. Text entry performance on both shapes improved as a function of practice, demonstrating that participants could learn even unfamiliar devices and virtual keyboards to complete a word entry task. No overall shape effects were found for any level of performance, but shape did affect how participants learned and performed the word entry task. In particular, unique visual features on a shape may facilitate memorization of letter/visual cue mappings. These shape features are particularly important for older adults, as younger adults seem to develop a mental model that helps them memorize letter locations on either shape. With practice, older adults could achieve optimal performance levels with an Alphabetic keyboard on the Plus shape that has the more visually unique corners. In general, alphabetic ordering is best not only because it helped visual search, but also because it facilitated better movement planning. Overall, designers should consider creating unique visual features on a virtual keyboard that will blend with the compatibility and allowed movements for the selected device to create an effective virtual keyboard.

Industry standard has so farbeen using crank shaft speed based methods. It is not obvious that speedbased methods will manage to detect misfire in the extended area. This report shows an alternative approach for misfire detection, based uponmeasured pressure in the exhaust manifold. The method compares themeasured pressure pattern with known templates. This work shows that themethod works at stationary measurements in the whole required operatingarea. Furthermore, measurements has shown that the exhaust brake can beused at pressures up to about □□□ hPa without any significant change to theexhaust pressure pattern. The influence of waste gate use at low load has beenanalysed. It shows low influence on the pressure trace when using misfiredetection template. Finally location of the pressure sensor has been studied, showing a possibility to improve misfire detection by placing the sensor closeto the exhaust port at the cylinder where improvement is needed.

Abstract: Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are systems that aim to provide a direct communication channel between the brain and an external device, such as a computer, a prosthesis or a wheelchair. Since BCIs do not use the conventional physiological pathways, they can constitute important assistive technologies for people with lesions that compromised their interaction with the external environment. Brain signals to be extracted for these systems must be generated according to specific strategies. In this dissertation, we worked with the motor imagery (MI) strategy, and we extracted the corresponding cerebral response from electroencephalography (EEG) data. Our goals were to characterize the functional brain networks originating from hands¿ MI and investigate the feasibility of using metrics from graph theory for the classification of mental patterns, generated by this strategy, of BCI users. We hypothesized that frequency alterations in the EEG spectra due to MI should reflect themselves, in some manner, in the graphs representing cortical interactions during these tasks. For data classification, different sets of electrode pairs were tested, as well as different classifiers (linear discriminant analysis ¿ LDA, and both linear and polynomial support vector machines ¿ SVMs). All three classifiers tested performed similarly in most cases. The mean classification rate over subjects, considering the best electrode set and classifier, was 78%, while some subjects achieved individual hit rates of up to 92%. Still, the employed methodology has yet some limitations, being the main one how to find the optimum electrode pairs¿ sets, which vary among subjects and among acquisitions; in addition to the problem of performing an online analysis

Abstract:
A modern AC motor drive is a very intelligent system which covers a wide range of different electro technical apparatus and a wide scope of electrical engineering skills. A modern AC motor drive consists of four closely acting main parts: the AC machine, the power electronics, the motor control algorithm and the control hardware, i.e. the signal electronics. The advances in semiconductors and microelectronics have made the rapid development of AC motor drives possible. Semiconductors used in the switching converters provide the electric energy processing capability and microcontrollers and digital signal processors provide the data processing power for complex control algorithms.

Abstract:
Marine diesel engines are systems integrated into a complex ship’s propulsion plant and comprehensive diagnostic analysis of possible degradations and failures is very challenging. Nowadays, current software and hardware allow exploring innovative ways, although each methodology cannot be considered apart from an adequate onboard monitoring system. In this work, the effects of several typical degradations of a ship’s engine, affecting some parameters that can be monitored on board, have been supposed and analyzed in order to their detection at an early stage by processing some parameters that can be monitored on board. The main aim is to provide a tool able to trace the engine performance decay. The procedure is based on the simulation of the engine model performed with input data measured on board and on a comparison of the outcomes with the real data. The case study is a 12.000 kW (750 rpm) 4-stroke marine diesel engine, simulated in a Matlab/Simulink environment and validated through the manufacturer’s datasheet. At this stage of the research, to make up for the lack of experimental data recorded onboard, a more detailed engine simulator is used to generate onboard data, with some alterations of the operating conditions as, intercooler efficiency and loss of pressure, turbocharger fouling, and many others. The numerical diagnostic tool acts on the minimization of the mean square errors (optimization problem) between the measured and the numerically simulated engine variables (such as pressures, temperatures, etc…) by properly varying the model parameters. The state of the engine is evaluated by analyzing the offset between the parameters of the degraded model and those obtained through the identification procedure for the degraded case.

The research is devoted to solving important tasks of interdisciplinary research work on the topic: «Development of scientific and technical support for energy autonomy of the agro-industrial complex based on environmentally efficient use of agrobiomass for biofuel production», state registration number 0122U000844, implementation of which is planned for 2022–2024 at the expense of the state budget of Ukraine. This paper considers topical scientific and technical issues of improving the efficiency of machine units when working with mixed fuels. One of the most promising alternative fuels is biofuels, the use of which will reduce the consumption of petroleum fuels and reduce corrosion emissions into the atmosphere.A review of the literature sources of modern power systems and equipment using biofuels and their mixtures, the impact of fuel mixtures on engine operation and analysis of mathematical models for calculation by the methods of Lyshevsky O. S. and clarification of prof. Razleytseva M. F.An improved diesel engine power system has been developed, which electronically controls the composition of the dosed fuel mixture, a mixer for mixed fuel supply to the machine unit has been developed, the operation of the machine-tractor unit (MAT) model has been confirmed, and AIT physical and mathematical models have been developed. A method for calculating the continuity of the working fluid flow in the characteristic areas of modern power supply systems has been developed. The geometric parameters of the Savonius rotor of the developed mixer are calculated and optimized to the most appropriate design solution. The aim of the study is to increase the efficiency of biofuel use in diesel power plants by improving the fuel system of the fuel mixer.Research methods include theoretical and experimental studies of the process of obtaining and supplying biofuels using a mixing device, comparative studies of diesel power plant in bench conditions and operating conditions on this fuel using modern technical measuring instruments and methods of processing these data on personal computers using standard application packages Compass, FlowVision.

Full text
Abstract:
With the development of urbanization, the number of residents’ motor vehicles has increased sharply, and traffic congestion problem has become increasingly serious. The construction of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) has become the main means to alleviate traffic congestion. Short-term traffic flow prediction has guiding significance for residents’ travel planning and intelligent management of transportation, and has become one of the research hotspots in intelligent transportation field. Therefore, A short-term traffic flow prediction method based on the spatio-temporal characteristics of complex road networks is proposed to further improve the prediction accuracy and reduce the prediction cost. Firstly, a graph convolutional network (GCN) capable of processing non-Euclidean data structures is used to extract the spatial characteristics of traffic flow data. Then, the long and short-term memory (LSTM) neural network is used to process the time characteristics. Finally, the two are combined to realize the effective processing of the spatio-temporal characteristics of traffic flow data. Experimental results on the real traffic flow dataset prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, and can provide a basis for intelligent traffic control and smart city construction.

Abstract:
Pattern recognition is becoming increasingly important topic in all sectors of society. From the optimization of processes in the industry to the detection and diagnosis of diseases in medicine. Brain-computer interfaces are introduced in this chapter. Systems capable of analyzing brain signal patterns, processing and interpreting them through machine and deep learning algorithms. In this chapter, a hybrid deep/machine learning ensemble system for brain pattern recognition is proposed. It is capable to recognize patterns and translate the decisions to BCI systems. For this, a public database (Physionet) with data of motor tasks and mental tasks is used. The development of this chapter consists of a brief summary of the state of the art, the presentation of the model together with some results and some promising conclusions.

Abstract:
This chapter provides a concise and selective summary of some major developments in the branch of cognitive neuroscience that focuses on concepts, with the goal of establishing a foundation for the neurobiological data covered in Part II. The first section reviews evidence that concrete concepts are grounded in modal systems for perception, action, and emotion, such that much of semantic processing involves the simulation of sensory, motor, and affective states, albeit in ways that can be flexibly modulated by factors like task, context, and individual experience. It also argues that transmodal systems are necessary to integrate the cortically distributed features of multimodal concepts, to transcend superficial criteria for categorization, and to form unitary representations that can easily be accessed and combined. The subsequent sections address the following topics: the increasingly popular notion of representational similarity spaces; the relatively neglected realm of grammatical semantics; and the provocative view that linguistic communication involves brain-to-brain coupling or alignment.

Full text
Abstract:
A key component of land administration is the management of land and property related data. Such data may be held in manual or digital form although, increasingly, all land related records are being computerized for ease of storage and retrieval. Data are raw collections of facts that, from a land administration perspective, may be gathered and written down as numbers and text, for instance in a surveyor’s field book, or collected and stored digitally through the use of ‘data loggers’ and computers. They may also be held graphically as on maps or aerial photographs. Data become information when processed into a form meaningful to a decision-maker. The usefulness of this information will depend upon the quality of the data and especially on the extent to which they are up to date, accurate, complete, comprehensive, understandable, and accessible. Even then, good data do not necessarily produce good management decisions since other factors may be involved, such as the qualities of the data user; the converse is however true, namely that poor quality data will almost certainly result in bad decision-making. Land and property related data are increasingly managed within formal land information systems (LIS). As with all information systems, LIS use a combination of human and technical resources, together with a set of organizing procedures, to produce information in support of management activities (Dale and McLaughlin 1988). Increasingly, the technologies that drive the data processing are components of geographic information systems (GIS). There has been much debate about the nature of GIS, some seeing them as sets of hardware, software, and data while others have seen them as all-embracing institutional arrangements of which the technology is only part. In the following discussion, GIS will be treated as the former and restricted to the acquisition and assembly of spatial data; their processing, storage, and maintenance; and their retrieval, analysis, and dissemination. By analogy with the motor car, GIS are the engines that power the car and data are the fuel; operating a transportation system is, however, a more complex process.
