This essay has a gender perspective on didactics and literature with the aim to highlight the circumstances surrounding reading and understanding the novel Pride and Prejudice in a classroom context.
Since Pride and Prejudice is written with a somewhat complicated language the pupils are likely to encounter some difficulties when reading the novel. This is something that I have chosen to focus my essay on. What is more, they are likely to also have difficulties to understand different episodes in the novel since they have little knowledge about the society depicted in Pride and Prejudice. This is referred to as a cultural and historical hindrance and they are present due to the fact that the story is set at the end of the 18th and beginning of 19th century England. However, there are various approaches which might diminish obstacles like those I have mentioned, for instance, by offering background information about the novel and recurring issues, such as marriage and financial heritance.
The areas of importance in the novel that I have chosen to highlight, because of the limited background knowledge that the students have, are marriage and financial independence for women. Marriage is depicted to be very important for a woman, especially
if they do not have a large fortune of their own. Due to lack of financial resources they needed to marry, since if they did not they could end up as old maids or even worse; having to support themselves by working as prostitutes. The chance of inheriting a lot of money was small, since the money from their father or mother was generally entitled to their closest male heir.

Full textThe formation of competent and independent readers is a target present in different educational systems and is targeted by various school subjects. In the first years of Elementary School, formalization of the reading process occurs together with the construction of other concepts present in knowledge areas. In this work, we present some evidences of reading comprehension in Science classes. By applying Didactic Sequence (DS) in the teaching of Science, students are invited to read texts handed to them and highlight what they consider to be the main ideas. After each reading, there is a group discussion in which students can report their emphasis and explain why they chose these ideas. The Didactic Sequence in question brings a proposal to Science teaching based on problem solving, research, experimentation and teamwork. Part of the physical problem The Submarine Problem. After problem resolution, there is a collective discussion on how and why, related to the daily life and record, DS presents the student with a series of activities which we believe promote and value doing science. Part of the DS works with proposal of reading scientific texts, either systematization of developed concepts or conducted researches, or instigation of the student to research new concepts. Our research problem starts with the readings that students perform while working with the DS. We hypothesized that the educational structure of this sequence, together with classroom practice of reading, emphasis of key ideas and discussion of the reading make it possible for the student to construct relations between ideas studied in text and those applied in classroom discussions. We also believe that this relation favors the construction of reading comprehension. We defend the importance of reading in Science teaching since reading is one of the important learning factors and is essential in any type of scientific research. It favors the obtention of existing information, propitiates the expansion of knowledge, opens horizons, increases vocabulary and allows for a better understanding of the content of the works. The data were collected in the fourth year of public elementary school of nine years duration in São Paulo. The methodology of this research presents a qualitative approach and we will base the analysis on the uniqueness of the data, and other factors, while investigating the emphasis made by students in the texts as well as searching for evidences of reading comprehension in the classroom discussion. The results indicate an appreciation of tasks with reading in Science classes, emphasizing the students\' ability to locate and highlight the main ideas of instructional texts. These results also present and analyze the evidence of reading comprehension.

This essay will discuss why one would use a literary text such as Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (1813) in a classroom. There is a certain focus on what Pride and Prejudice might have to offer both male and female students, since research has shown that boys tend to resist reading romantic novels and stories about girls. This essay attempts to show that a gender focused reading of Pride and Prejudice might make it interesting to male students as well, since the way that the unequal relationship between men and women is portrayed concerns them as well as the female students.
Regarding the reasons for using literature in the classroom, I will investigate what it is that literary texts can offer to its readers. This essay will argue that reading literature is an aesthetic experience, which is what separates literary texts from other non-literary texts. Aesthetic experiences have to do with the way student’s feel about and experience certain texts, and also with the artistic values of a text. To have an aesthetic experience is very important since the English classroom is a place where the students´ feelings and experiences normally are not given enough neither time nor space.
This essay attempts to show that by looking at stereotypical characters in Pride and Prejudice, as well as looking at what qualities in men and women were considered desirable, a very interesting discussion might arise in the classroom, concerning gender roles, and inequality between men and women. A discussion of this sort gives the students an opportunity to question the gender roles we have in today’s society, as well as the relationship between men and women.
Keywords: Literature, reading, aesthetic experience, gender, stereotypes.

Full textThe reading in French Foreign Language (FFL) can be approached in different ways in terms of individual or institutional aims for its learning. This research concentrates in a reader group rather specific: students attending the first year of French Language at Philosophy and Language and Human Sciences Department of the University of São Paulo that must read French literature in the original version, having some or no knowledge of this language. It is a paradoxical situation that is set to a considerable number of students that enroll this course each year and it caused a search for developing a literary text approach that could come close to the processes in the act of reading and of the verbalizations of these processes on the part of this reader group. It is sought, in this research, to reflect about how the approximation of the the readers text, or whether, how the verbalization of his reading process could inform about the strategies to read literature in a classroom, considering the difficulties implied in the process on account of the limited knowledge in French Language. The hypothesis concentrates in perceiving the verbalization of a reading as a metacognitive process of elaboration in which the reader controls the construction and eventual lose of the sense in the reading, the readers text would be a hybrid between the report of this process and the elements of his understanding in the act of reading. Disposing these elements, it can allow that an approach of the literary reading in FFL approximates the form how the texts are learnt by the readers in this context, potentiating the results of this learning.

Full textIn order to contribute as a parameter of evaluation for didactic materials for others professionals that work with English language, this paper, following the foreign language teaching-learning and the foreign language self critical project line of research, has the objective of discussing the didactic orientation to teaching reading in English, as proposed in the unit The natural World from the didactic book Great 2. The discussion is based mainly on Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais de Lingua Estrangeira (BRASIL, 1998) as the authors of the book claim to develop their work according to it. The questions of research that guide this paper, based on the theoretical suppositions of PCN-LE (BRASIL, 1998), Solé (1998), Nuttall (1985), Lousada (2005), Dias (2006) among others are: How are the reading development texts in the unit characterized? How is writing comprehension treated in the unit? What is the relationship between purpose of the unit reading and the purposed by PCN-LE (BRASIL, 1998)? To answer these analytical categories related to each question were created. The conclusions show that the unit analyzed relates well to the proposal of the PCN-LE (BRASIL, 1998) with respect to reading, however, they reveal inconsistency in relation to the didactic orientations such as, exploring knowledge of world, textual and systemic , pre-reading, reading and post-reading, other then problems in the choice of texts.

Faced with the undeniable presence of advertising stimuli in everyday life of the population and exposure of adolescents to announcements of all kinds, it is very important that the school works this genre in Portuguese classes. For the preparation of this research, we assume that knowing concepts with which handles advertising daily, and ad writing techniques, high school students will expand their ability to read and understand this genre, an essential condition for evaluate it critically and be able to position themselves consciously against this type of message they are exposed constantly. Thus we have as a general objective to discuss the results of an intervention made by a reading teaching proposal of the advertisement genre for high school students, from a didactic sequence based on reading comprehension strategies. At first, we made a theoretical reflection, divided into three parts. In the first, we study reading conception, prior knowledge and reading strategies present in Koch and Elias (2012), Kleiman (2013) and Solé (1998); in the second, we deal with the question of genre, based on Marcuschi (2008), followed by the specific part with respect to advertising and advertising text, for which we seek support in Carvalho (1998), Martins (2003), Sant 'Anna (1998) and Sampaio (2003), and know the treatment that is devoted to advertising in Brasil and Pernambuco official documents relating to teaching Portuguese, specifically, the PCN and PCN+ de Língua Portuguesa para o Ensino Médio (2000) and the Parâmetros para a Educação Básica do Estado de Pernambuco – Língua Portuguesa (2012); in the third part, we turn to Schneuwly and Dolz (2010), and consult the Orientações Teórico-Metodológicas para o Ensino Médio – Língua Portuguesa (PE) (2011), the Base Curricular Comum para as Redes Públicas de Ensino de Pernambuco – Língua Portuguesa (2008) and the Currículo de Português para o Ensino Médio (PE), which offered the methodological approaches to the implementation of the proposal in the classroom. In the following chapter, we present the survey results, containing the analysis of a semi-structured interview, conducted in the form of focus group with five students of the 2nd Year of a Escola de Referência em Ensino Médio, in São Lourenco da Mata, as well as a didactic sequence that was applied to a class of 45 students throughout the process. The ads used in the lessons were chosen from Pernambuco newspapers the months May to August 2015. As a result, we saw that it was possible to increase the level of reading and understanding about the ads, with special emphasis on the development of the ability to make inferences, which contributed to the development of other important skills for reading texts.

Full textSeveral national and international studies (reading writing numeracy, PISA, PIRLS) have shown that the gap in France between pupils from privileged sociocultural backgrounds and those from a disadvantaged background when it comes to reading and writing is on the increase. Our research focuses on written teaching. We are trying to demonstrate how teaching practices that favour writing cultural integration through technical learning of reading and writing can help reducing inequalities. In order to explore the connection between cultural integration practices for writing in CP classes and learning to read, a longitudinal study was undertaken in two CP classes within a priority education zone. Our ecological and ethnographic approach is based on qualitative and quantitative data collected from interviews with pupils and teachers and from questionnaire filled in by parents. Our own data were compounded with results from #LireEcrireCP research coordinated by R.Goigoux (evaluations, questionnaires, “coded tasks” records, class videos). Results show on one hand that moderate cultural integration practices are not sufficient for pupils’ progress to reduce inequalities. On the other hand, that in order to be efficient, not only acculturation practices must be used regularly and routinely, but they must also be used in conjunction with teaching practices that encourage language interaction in order to make sense of what has been learned, and to consider writing in its entirety and not only in a school context. Finally, analysis of two examples of cultural integration (written assignment and various reading practices) in two other classes taking part in the study #LireEcrireCP shows that cultural integration practices can be successful, even in priority education. Our research therefore demonstrates that cultural integration practices, along with efficient teaching methods, can contribute to a reduction in academic inequalities

Full textThe theme of this research is the development of reading skills in students of the 8th/7th grade at a school in the interior of the State of São Paulo. After analyzing the results of the 2012 `Sistema de Avaliação de Rendimento Escolar do Estado de São Paulo - SARESP (State of São Paulos Evaluation of Educational Achievement System) - and the 2013 `Avaliação de Aprendizagem em Processo - AAP (Assessment of Learning in Process), applied by the Department of Education of the State of São Paulo (SEESP) in 2012 and in 2013, there was a need for a more systematic work for students to extend their reading competence of different speech genres. The overall aim of this research was to contribute to the development of reading skills of elementary school students through reflection on the demands of SARESP and the possibilities and benefits of reading activities in Portuguese Language classes in two 7th/8th grade classrooms of a state school in São Paulo. The goal found support on UNITAU Education Observatory `reading competences and skills; from theoretical reflection to the development and implementation of educational and pedagogical proposals, number 23038010000201076, sponsored by CAPES / INEP. Specifically, the objectives of the research are: 1) compare the results of the 6th /7th graders in a State School in São Paulo in the Portuguese language test of the 2012 SARESP and the 2013 AAP to their results in the 7th/ 8th grade ; 2) Set an action plan for the development of the reading skills these students showed more difficulties in; 3) develop the plan of action in two rooms of grade 7th / 8th grade, during the school year of 2013 and reflect on this work. Theoretically, this research is based on the socio-cognitive conception of reading, on Bakhtins conception of language and speech genre and on the concept of didactic sequence proposed by Dolz; Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004, p. 97). Official documents on the `Prova Brasil (BRAZIL, 2008) and SARESP will be used to contextualize the current educational guidelines. This research is methodologically developed by: 1) a qualitative analysis of the results of the 2012 SARESP and the 2013 AAP ; 2) an action research to develop an action plan focused on the reading skills of students in two 7th /8th grade classrooms. These skills were worked through teaching reading sequences with the speech genres: Strips, Chronicles, Fables and Literary Memoirs, Social Advertising and Advertising of Products, from collections of texts in these genres. At the end of each reading stage of a given genre, students performed verification activities using multiple choice questions, with questions similar to SARESPs questions. The results showed that with the systematic practice of reading using didactic sequences, students understand and learn the characteristics of speech genres and reading strategies that contribute greatly to the development of reading skills. The evaluations performed after each step of this action research have proven that. We conclude that the work of reading following teaching sequences and using different speech genres is the way to develop student‟s required reading skills so that they become proficient readers .

This paper presents a proposal of educational intervention through didactic sequence, which has the object of teaching the mobilization of gender fable, aiming to provide students of the 6th year of elementary school II, with difficulties in literacy, opportunities to develop their competence discursive. The text is based on the studies of Geraldi (2000), Kleiman (2000, 2013), Lajolo (2002), Dezotti (2003), Soares (2005), Jolibert (2008), Dolz and Schneuwly (2010), Koch (2011 , 2015), Passareli (2012), Antunes (2013) Cosson (2014), Marcuschi (2015), Silva (2015), among others, dealing with subjects covered. The sequence used is a proposal of adaptation by Dolz and Schneuwly (2010) Although very old fables continue to attract the attention of many contemporary among others, for the production of more modern texts and / or construction of parodies and paraphrases Classics Esopo and La Fontaine, for example. We defend this text fables as a genre / discourse to be worked in the classroom, as well as being short, they become over time, and allow the various ways to exploit them, which makes students they have fun while learning allowing us a more effective and meaningful practice.

This research aims to argue about theories that bring to light a redefinition of the teaching of Portuguese, from the Shape-use-Shape axis to the Use-shape-Use axis, based on the discourse genres, under the perspective of Bakhtin (1952-53), using literature as content in elementary education, focused on humanistic education. We consider, therefore, in this study, the language as a process of construction and production of meanings. Based on this, we draw the following research objectives: 1º) to prepare a Tupiniquim Didactic Sequence (TDS) for the discursive genre “machadian short story” in the discursive enunciation perspective influenced by Bakhtin, dedicated to the training of literary readers of the students of the 9th year of elementary school of the Coronel Antônio Paes de Barros State School, in Barão de Melgaço, State of Mato Grosso; and 2º) apply the didactic sequence composed of eight modules oriented to the acquisition of reading skills of literary short stories and watch the progression of the learning of this reading, by the same students, through the analysis and measurement of results. To this end, we selected two research questions: How to organize a TDS for the reading of short stories for students of 9th year of elementary school, of the Coronel Antônio Paes de Barros State School, in Barão de Melgaço, State of Mato Grosso? Which results, in terms of literary reading, will be observed after application of a TDS for the reading of machadian short stories? For the creation of such TDS, we clarify that besides the characteristics of the French DS, we seek to adapt it to this specific context, i.e., the needs of public school students in Mato Grosso’s Pantanal. We developed, in our work, an action-research, in the light of Thiollent (1986) and also revisit the theoretical collection which follows the studies on language of the russian thinkers of the Circle, Bakhtin/Voloshinov (1929); Bakhtin (1952-1953). To anchor our methodology, we obeyed the considerations of the Methodology of Social Sciences with Bakhtin (2006) and Amorim (2001); in the parameterization of teaching practices, we used, essentially, the socio-historical theory of Vygotsky's learning, with emphasis on the Zone of Proximal Development; the formulations of didactic sequences and language abilities based on Schneuwly and Dolz (2004) and the reading skills in Rojo (2004-2009). The results, in terms of literary reading, showed progression in the use of language and reading skills, reaching the level of active and critical understanding in relation to the reading of machadian short stories.

This work aimed to investigate aspects of phonological awareness and graphophonemic relations in the development of reading fluency and accuracy of students with age-grade distortion. The study was divided into four stages: pilot test, pre-test, intervention and post-test. A total of 94 students from the 5th grade of Elementary School I of a municipal public school in Fortaleza, CE, participated in the pilot test. From the pilot test, students with age-grade distortion were identified. Of these, 16 students formed two research groups: Study Group, GE (8 students) and Control Group GC (8 students). In order to perform the Pre-test and Post-test two instruments were used: Precision Test and Reading Fluency based on Carvalho and Pereira (2009) and a Phonological Consciousness Test: Sequential Assessment Tool - CONFIAS (MOOJEN, 2011). Deficits in reading fluency and accuracy were identified, as well as poor performance in the phonemic manipulation skills of students with age-grade distortion, with higher proportions than in students without distortion. Fifteen workshops were organized and conducted with procedures aimed at the development of phonological awareness and the explication of the graphophonemic relations to the students of the experimental group. After the workshops, the post-test was administered in order to compare the performances of the students from the experimental and control groups, reaching a reciprocal relation between the low level of phonological awareness and the low performance in reading fluency and accuracy. It was observed that the methodologies focused on the reflection of phonemic mechanisms and the explanation of the grapho-phonological relations contributed to improve reading skills of the students in the experimental group, who obtained more expressive gains in fluency, accuracy and phonological awareness than the other students. From these conclusions, a teaching proposal was elaborated with instructions of application to teachers, aiming to aid their work in the classroom. The proposal contains a sequence of 15 workshops with activities aimed at understanding the graphophonemic relations and the development of skills of phonological awareness. Its application is indicated both for students who are in the initial phase of reading acquisition as well as for students with deficits in reading fluency and accuracy.

This research, related to the Graduate Program in Education of the Presidente Prudente College of Science and Technology, in the line of research “Formative Processes, Teaching and Learning”, and fostered by the São Paulo State Educational System, has as its general aim to investigate the contributions from both pedagogical procedures, Didactic Sequence (from the Genevan group) and Reading Strategies (from a North American trend), in essay writing learning. The research problem lies in the evaluation of how, when put together, the aforementioned procedures further the learning of writing skills towards the short story genre by students in Basic Education, whose struggles with the writing language are made evident through external evaluations and in school activities. The specific objectives of the research are the following: to assess if the students´ skills in writing short stories are enhanced after the work with the pedagogical procedures Didactic Sequence and Reading Strategies; to show how the application of a Didactic Sequence along with Reading Strategies concur in order to make the students develop subjects to the short story; to make noticeable how Reading Strategies help students in widening their knowledges on planning a short story structure; to analyze how a Didactic Sequence provides the students mastery of the short story language. The methodological procedure is the Action Research, which aims to change reality and create knowledges about these changes. Thus, the survey took place during the researcher´s teaching practice, in 66 Portuguese Language lessons (33 meetings), in a class made of 26 students in the Sixth Grade of the Elementary Education, in a public state school in Presidente Prudente town. Based on the Didactic Sequence stages, presentation of circumstances; initial production; workshops; and final production, writing lessons were carried out: a project of short stories writing to be published in a collection. In the initial production, it was found students´ difficulties concerning the four main levels of the subject´s action in writing: awareness about the text´s recipient, about the text´s function, and about the author´s position itself in relation to the text genre in question; the creation of subjects that comply with the specificities of the genre; the planning of the text in order to comply with the genre´s standard structure; the choicer of the proper language when writing the text. From that, modular interventional activities were developed dealing with each one of the difficulties found. Since reading is a process of production of meanings, and since there cannot be writing without the understanding of texts, the modular activities were furthered by Reading Strategies in order to amplify the students´ interaction with the short story genre, favoring the feeding of subjects of the texts to be written, as much as the widening of knowledges related to the writing context, the short story form and the language of the text. At last, the students reviewed and rewrote the short story, profiting from the gains obtained during the applied activities. Results showed that in the final production, when compared to the initial production, there were improvement of the knowledges of the class in all levels of the subject´s action in writing, because the pedagogical procedures when integrated provide the detailed study of each characteristic of a text genre, help in the teacher´s intervention, widen the students´ stock of knowledge, and support the learner´s brainwork, in order to make possible the students-authors to write the short story.

Full textThis project became real due to the researcher's interest in new approaches to teaching and in implementing a transdisciplinary teaching proposal. In this case, the proposal consisted of a reading assignment, under different perspectives, of a Machado de Assis's short story. The project was based on Edgar Morin's ideas of the complexity of knowledge of different subjects, and traditional school's simplistic approaches to learning, were questioned. Contextualizing and integrating were the objectives of the work developed by teachers of Reading and Writing Texts, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, History , subjects that together with Academic-Scientific and Cultural Activities, are part of the freshman year of the School of Pedagogy at "Faculdade de Ciências Aplicadas e Tecnológica do Litoral Sul/FACSUL". Transdisciplinary projects of such kind may be applicable at any school level, aiming to create a valuable dialogue between areas of knowledge, and also to achieve a more significant and contextualized learning.

This research examined the didactic production of Manoel Bomfim and Olavo Bilac, choosing the works Prática da Lingua Portugueza Livro de Leitura para o Curso Complementar (1899) e Atravez do Brasil Livro de Leitura para o Curso Médio (1910). In view of cultural studies and based on the understanding of the textbook as a cultural product and a device powered by the State for the production and dissemination of a cultural selection, which among other things, points out memories and identities considered legitimate for the nation, investigated are the contexts of production and circulation of these two works, outlining his entry in the history of teaching s editions and the process of institutionalization of the school in Brazil (late nineteenth and early twentieth century) in which gain prominence and public agenda in the intellectual struggles surrounding the narratives about the homeland , the nation and around the binominal race/Brazilian people. The privileged sources during the investigation beyond the works themselves were the biographies of the authors and their bibliographies, biographies of the editor (Francisco Alves) produced by scholars of the period, records of contemporary writers to authors, especially those tied to their networks of sociability (in autobiographies or equivalent) and catalogs editorials, studies and research on the history of teaching s editions in Brazil and the debate around the issue of race that established itself as the public agenda in the period. For the treatment of sources, we attempted to establish dialogue between the records and voices of the discourse in order to identify theirs points of similarity, contradiction and mutual understanding. The investigation concluded that the works were produced and circulated in the context of the institutionalization of school in Brazil where the textbooks have become more specific contours and in the field of teaching reading, vie for hegemony on the formal model, the anthologies, narratives in single book, books in series and the contract activity, and the first of the works studied fits the model and the second anthology of works fits into the narrative model into a single book. Concluded further that the treatment given to issues of nationality, country and race / Brazilians in the two works presents a narrative that legitimized the independence of Brazil as the nation's founding in march, not giving treatment, or even explicitly laudatory applicant to the Republic, builds and presents a territory particularly rich and valuable from the standpoint of natural and also the constructions of 'progress' (railroads, construction of infrastructure, industries), shall elect as a model of the Brazilian people the scrub type, preserving the distinction between the scrub and the backcountry coastal scrub, but proposing an interpretation of these two types as 'moments' evolution of the nation and outlines a different approach to arrays black / African, Indian and Portuguese / European in the formation of Brazilian nationality in which the first is recognized as a victim of slavery, but valuable for this patriotism, his ability to work and their participation in the civilizing process and the second is outlined as naive, bellicose, tough to civilization, but should it be earned

This research aims to characterize the didactic act of two female teachers of Portuguese during 2 teaching practices about 2 textual genres from the narration axis, namely, comics and short story, and verify the reconfiguration of this act by the teachers themselves in texts with simple and crossed self-confrontation. We understand as didactic act teachers interventions when interacting with students in the process of turning a teaching object into an effectively taught object. This thesis inscribes itself in the current movement of researches on the Portuguese teacher s job, which, by means of empirical studies, aims to contribute to broadening the Portuguese teacher s perception of her/his own act in the classroom. Thus, this thesis in Applied Linguistics is inscribed, in a basilar and triangular way, into the theoretical approach of sociodiscursive interactionism and contributions from the Didactics of Languages and the Clinic of Activity, in order to seek answers to analyze teachers' job, by crossing 2 methods that we regard as complementary to practice the métier, and the Portuguese teacher her/himself: the analysis of practice by an external observer (the researcher) and by teachers participating in the research. Regarding the method to generate data, we used the self-confrontation device (CLOT, 2010): audio and video recording of classes and simple and crossed selfconfrontations. We organized the analytical method in two steps: 1) analysis of teaching practices: the object of teaching, school activities, tools, and didactic devices, social forms of work, and the fundamental and specific didactic gestures (SCHNEUWLY; DOLZ, 2009); and 2) analysis of self-confrontations (MACHADO; BRONCKART, 2009; BULEA, 2010). With the results of analysis, we could characterize the didactic act of both female teachers with regard to the textual genres and the reading practices, in addition to observations by teachers themselves about their work and act. Thus, we identify the reading practices that are secularized in the Portuguese teacher s job, extend the notion of didactic gestures, and found out that the method adopted in this thesis may constitute the first step of a continued education based on concrete classroom situations

Working with reading and writing in contemporary times has been one of the great challenges for the language teacher. In this perspective, the purpose of this work was to present a pedagogical proposal, in the model of a didactic sequence, for the development of discursive skills related to reading and writing activities, using as a learning object the genre reportage transmitted in digital media. The subjects who participated in the development of this didactic sequence were students from the 8th grade class of a state school network located in a city in the interior of Bahia. Considering that one of the main events that characterize the current society are the advancement and diffusion of the digital technologies, it is observed the need to integrate the new technologies to the process of teaching and learning. However, it is important to emphasize that this integration must develop consciously and critically and, above all, present a pedagogical intentionality, since the use of technology in the classroom is not justified by itself. It is based on this pressing need that, through the didactic sequence proposed in this work, it was intended to provide practices for understanding and producing texts, culminating in the creation of an online magazine, the final product of this research. For that, the genre was mobilized, since reporting is a textual activity that is part of daily life and relevant in the journalistic sphere. The methodological procedures adopted in the study take into account the qualitative approach of the research, being ethnographic and of an applied nature. The basic theoretical assumptions involved the proposal of adaptation to the model of Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004); The theory of Bakhtin and his Circle; Studies of authors of Textual Linguistics, as well as of different theoretical frameworks that deal with the study of writing and text. The results and conclusions reached above all show that it is possible to develop a didactic sequence that allows for the practice of comprehension and production of texts and the use of digital technologies as an instrument for acquiring information and for socializing the knowledge produced.
Full textDifficulty in reading and interpreting multimodal texts, observed through surveys conducted with students of the ninth grade of C.E.P.P.F and E. E. J. P. C. Elementary School was the starting point of the research presented in this report. The main objective was to minimize the difficulty identified among these students by reading workshops in a didactic module. Therefore, the mobilized theoretical contribution allowed the reflection on the observed reading difficulty, the elaboration of an intervention proposal and the discussion of the results. This theoretical support is based on authors such as: Cassano (2003), who explains about reading in a discursive perspective; Kleiman (2008, 2010, 2012), who brings reflections around literacy; Lerner (2002), who analyzes the school reading situation; Fairclough (2001), who deals with the three-dimensional model of critical discourse analysis; Rojo (2012), who discusses multiliteracies; Silvestre and Vieira (2015) and Dionísio (2014), who discuss multimodality studies; Novellino (2007), who inventories instruments of Kress and Van Leeuwen visual grammar (2006 [1996]) for the interpretation of multimodal texts. The applied methodology was the educational action research that, according to Tripp (2005), entails a greater integration of the production of theoretical knowledge to the analysis and reformulation of praxis in the face of a demand verified by the teacher in a given group of students. The instruments used for the collection, description and analysis of information consisted of initial and final reading tests and evaluation activities for each workshop. The results showed that this research had repercussions on the literacy of the involved students in the interpretation of multimodal texts. The final product of this research consists of a Didactic Module intended for Portuguese teachers and susceptible of being replicated for reading practice in Elementary School.

Full textIn terms of school reintegration of young people and adults, Brazil set up the educational program named Education for Young People and Adults [Educação de Jovens e Adultos – EJA], while France set up the educational project called Pass degree for the sake of the Access to University Studies [Diplôme d’Accès aux Études Universitaires - DAEU]. Each of these constitutes a complete educational device that composes The National System of Education in relation to others official programs as well as to specific courses, teaching staff and exams based on the degree acquisition. The graduates of both programs have the right to apply for public service. Moreover, in the Brazilian context they can apply for public and private universities and in the French situation they are able to sign up in the institutions that are open to people with a university degree. However, in Brazil the pedagogical training is oriented towards the job market and aims to promote the professional reintegration and the mobility of people, while the pedagogical training in France has as main point the pursuit of the studies by these individuals. In our thesis, we are interested in the teaching of the reading and we seek, by a contrastive perspective, to evaluate the effects of each of these two educational systems on the learning of the written comprehension; we also discuss the effects of the school model in which the readers have made their first learning, particularly, their first readings. Our research method, set up during several study sessions, invites the readers to answer a reading quiz about informative and journalistic texts that were extracted from the internet. To answer our present problematization, we formulate the following questions:(1) How do these readers read?(2) What are the elements of the text that they mobilize?(3) How are these elements taken up in their answers?(4) What are the strategies implemented during the reading? This method and its theoretical foundations are inspired by the work on reading and written comprehension conducted in the LIDILEM laboratory of the University of Grenoble-Alpes in the sense of the studies initiated by Michel DABENE (DABÈNE, FRIER & VISOZ, 1992) and of the works performed by the Brazilian team of research led by Lúcia CHEREM and Rosa NERY on the matrix of questions and the progress of reading. The intersection of these different indicators (part of the mobilized text, appropriation strategy of the text, identification of the argumentative path, value judgments and enunciative polyphony, formulation of the answer) allows us to reconstruct the coherence of the reading path – from the retrieval of the information to the understanding of the textual complexity through argumentation analysis – and to identify the types of reading concerning both the degrees of development and of reading-comprehension process.Furthermore, we ask whether the concern with the reading work in social thought (FREIRE, 1967) influences on the quality of the reading and written comprehension as well as on the quality of the pedagogical training of readers. We elaborate our answers by referring to researchers who, like Paulo Freire and Pierre Bourdieu, thought about the social question. We think, with them, that when reading is meaningful to the reader, the learning work is more motivated and more coherent. The special attention to the online press article, that we take as a basic document for our research, is motivated by this perspective that establishes the dialogue between the social practices of the written and the teaching-learning of the reading and written comprehension

Full textNowadays, acknowledging and valuing the role of reading in language practices is to contribute to the training of critical and autonomous individuals. Thus, aiming to develop the reading literacyamong 9th grade students, of elementary education, this qualitative research, of intervencionist nature, developped a material, which includes activities, and a didactic game to foster reading strategies and text interpretation, based upon the teaching-learning of parody, one of the types of intertextuality, term originally disseminated by Kristeva (1979). It is a Pedagogical Notebook used to enhance the reading of parodistic texts, which has as theoretical bases Bakhtin ([1972] 2003),Genette (2006), Koch, Bentes and Cavalcante (2009) and Sant’anna (2000), regarding the presence of intertextuality, and the humor and irony effects in memes (multimodal texts that circulate on social networks). By using this learning object, whose methodological procedures are based upon the works of Bronckart (2006) and Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004), it is possible to relate the use of regularities in texts that would textually define the genre structure, enabling the reading proficiency. The results were expressive, because they showed that the students before, with less reading abiliy, could improve their performance. Effectively, those who had show more fluency in the use of strategies achieved more success in reading.

This dissertation presents a study on text reading and production of the genre of discourse opinion article. The general objective of this research is evaluate how a proposal of intervention, based on the utilization of a didactic sequence with the genre opinion article, can contribute to the development of students‟ reading and writing competence from a class of 9th Year, of Elementary School (Ensino Fundamental). The didactic sequence with the opinion article, used in the intervention, was proposed by Dolz, Noverraz e Schneuwly (2004) and included the following steps: initial production; seven modules of reading; rewriting; final production. As theoretical base, we adopted the following authors‟ contributions: a) in the work with text reading and production, Kato (1995), Rojo (2009), Soares (2006), Kleiman (2010), Liberato (2012), Cavalcanti (1992); Kleiman (2012); Koch (1989); Leffa (1996); Lopes (1997); Solé (1998), Tomitch (2008), among others; b) in the genre studies: Bakhtin (2003), Marcuschi (2002); c) on approach about the characteristics of opinion article, Coimbra e Chaves (2012), Rodrigues (2005). The methodological procedure adopted was an action research, as proposed by Thiollent (2004) and the corpus is formed by six opinion articles, being five taken from newspapers, one from a magazine and three productions of the genre opinion article performed by students-participants. The conception of reading defended in this research is that understood as an interactional process among the author, the text and the reader. About the text production, we defended that it stems from the work of reading, that perform and comprises the following steps: the preparation, the writing, the evaluation and the rewriting. The opinion article was approached in this work by considering its compositional form, its thematic content, its style and its circulation sphere or domain. The results achieved with this research demonstrated that the targeted goals were achieved, because occurred a notable advance in the quality of students-participants‟ written production, specifically in relation to seizure of constituent elements of the textual genre opinion article.

We know that the basic education teacher makes use of the didactic book as his/her mains tool to develop his/her work. Concerning the teaching of Portuguese, the book is the almost exclusive text source offered to the learners´ reading. In relation to text production, it is not different as well; the chosen didactic material is the instrument used for the composition suggestions. In this context, with this research, we have analyzed the Portuguese didactic books, for the eighth and ninth years of fundamental school, in the sections focused on reading and text production, in order to verify which theoretical concepts underlie the material, and also verify their adequacy to the Language teaching under the concepts of Linguistic Education. For that, we have chosen five titles analyzed by the PNLD (Didactic Book National Program) that had on their reviews the work with reading and text production as their main focus. After we have analyzed the books, the results showed us that the majority of the didactic books offer reading and text production activities that develop the students´ communicative competence, once they make the individuals think, reflect and act to learn. By the other hand, we have noted there is little integration between the reading and writing pedagogy and the lexical-grammatical pedagogy, once the materials do not discuss well enough the lexical issues and the grammar activities are decontextualized and not integrated with the reading and writing activities

The main objective of this research is to propose strategies of reading and textual analysis that will contribute to the promotion of multiletration in the 8th year of elementary school, starting from a work oriented to the multimodal propaganda genre, based on the didactic sequence of Dolz and Schneuwly (2004) and in the adaptation of this sequence proposed by Costa-Hubes and Simion (2014). The interest in preparing the proposal arose from the reflection about the difficulty that the students present in reading, which is very limited to the decoding process, as well as the treatment given by some teachers regarding the reading practices in the classroom, which still remain very much rooted in traditional methods, that is, a decontextualized study, which leads only to the analysis of parts of the text, reducing the teaching of languages to the mere study of grammatical rules. Moreover, in these classes, usually only printed texts are used, which prioritize only the verbal aspects, leaving aside the analysis of other non verbal elements, as important as those, for the understanding and the production of meaning. The methodology used here consists of the accomplishment of a bibliographic research about the theme, together with the proposal of a didactic sequence, around the propaganda genre, with the purpose of helping, in a more dynamic way, the process that involves reading practices, analysis and, consequently, textual production, which deal with issues related to textuality, developed by Textual Linguistics, thus seeking to resignify old reading practices, under the innovative perspective of multiliteracy, that enable the development and / or enhancement of competences Linguistic and discursive the students. The choice for the propaganda genre was due to its massive social circulation, through the most varied media, including the digital ones, and for its multimodality, that is, to add several semioses in a single text, an important factor for their understanding. This proposal to work with a genre of the advertising sphere is a way to provoke in the student the investigative curiosity and the capacity of analysis in relation to the critical reading of multimodal texts that are produced socially. For the accomplishment of this research, some authors were consulted to base it theoretically. They are: Solé (1998), Leffa (1996, 1999), Koch (1997, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014), Bakhtin (2011), Marcuschi (2008, 2012), Dolz and Schneuwly , 2010), Rojo (2015), Dionísio (2011), among others. We also consulted the guidelines of the National Curricular Parameters (PCNs) of Portuguese Language (1998) and other sources.

Full textIn collaboration with professional teachers who teach the Swedish language, this study explores how to develop teaching in history of literature within the field of design-based research. A didactic design is created and tried in an authentic learning situation. This didactic design refers to earlier studies of embodied learning. In a series of six lessons which focus on working with texts from the Enlightenment, four physical components are incorporated in the design: gestures, voices, a visual component and an auditive component. The staging of the didactic design is investigated through a triangulation consisting of observations, group conversations with pupils, interviews with the teacher and written exit- tickets by pupils. Through a thematic analysis the result shows that students, despite the challenging language, conquer the texts from the Enlightenment, engages themselves in different presented lifeworlds, remember contents and incorporates newfound knowledge while using bodily representations. The explanation is traced to the unity of body and mind and to the multimodal perspective that creates meaning. The presented study also shows the meaning of a sociocultural context while working with literature. Didactic literature positions are discussed further and state that physical components can be used as an entrance into texts from different time periods. All thanks to extensive reading experience, where body and mind are provided with narrative through multiply senses. The discussion continues and suggests that due to the fact that pupils are experiencing the narrative in the texts, they are able to perform more extensive analysis which is the focus of the curriculum.

Full textThe essay consists of a comparative study brought on by a critical close reading of two separate teaching aids, Svenska impulser 3 (2013) and Svenska 3 – Helt enkelt (2015). The comparison emanates from how the two teaching aids define the core content and knowledge requirements about literary studies in the upper secondary school course Swedish 3, and how they conspires with research in didactics and whether they have a formative approach or not. To define the core content’s role and to define the knowledge requirements has, since the new curriculum and syllabus Gy11 was released, been problematic. That is explained through enquiries made by Skolverket. The result shows that Svenska 3’s part about literary studies have been defined differently in the teaching aids, even though they transpire from the same core content and knowledge requirements. The teaching aids also relate to chosen parts of Skolverket’s research in didactics and they have a formative approach according to the analysis. The similarities and differences are plenty in the two examples, which the essay highlights.

Full textThis essay is a qualitative close reading of Gul utanpå (Lundberg, 2013). This book is categorised as life-writing and labelled adoption memoire. The story unfolding in the book centers around Patrik Lundberg who is adopted from Korea to Sweden. In his story about travelling back to his birth country he shares new perspectives and emotional discoveries, poignantly writing about finding your roots for the first time. This is also a story about learning how to understand your own essence in a life previously lived before discovering your roots. This essay aims to analyse perspectives and categories of identity in adoption memoires by way of using an intersectional method of reading. Theories applied are on the one hand narratology by Mieke Bal and her ideas of focalisation, and on the other theories based on Louise M.Rosenblatt’s ideas concerning didactic reading strategies. The idea is to bring forward how this type of literature can be used as a tool for working with democratic values in school, such as human rights and cultural diversity. Hopefully this will expose the didactic potential of this particular type of book. Hypothetically, when a person who has yet not reached self discovery writes a book about discovering himself the story in itself gives the reader multiple opportunities to interpret various perspectives in a wider sense. The conclusion is that the theme of adoption enables a discussion about diversity and cultural diversity in the classroom. Reading such a memoire, or autobiography, also makes way for reflecting about one's own self construction. However, it also presents the reader with a chance to separate himself from the text in order to view it with the spectacles of an outsider.

Full textNowadays, the traditional cornerstone of studying literature – the reading of heritage works - is becoming a challenge for teachers, particularly those working in high schools with pupils aged from 15 to 18. The development of digital technologies and the exponential growth of social media has generated new multimodal writing and reading practices which combine images, sound, text, icons, etc. Indeed, for many people, the omnipresence of multimodal, digital literacy in cultural practices has motivated changes in their relationship to literature and culture and radically transformed reading and writing practices. This development has heightened the already apparent disconnect between school reading programs, concentrating on classical literature, and the private cultural practices of schooled teenagers. At the same time, the curriculum at secondary level invites teachers to articulate the study of literature with education for media and digital literacy. Innovation is encouraged. However, researchers have only recently started to investigate the effects of using digital media on literary reading. Drawing on research into the reader as subject, from the field of the didactics of literature, and research into multimodal digital and media literacy, this thesis asks what form teaching the reading of literary classics could take in this digital, multimedia age.In order to respond to this question, this thesis explores the hypothesis that a teaching protocol which takes into account the private cultural practices of the students, by giving a place within the learning to multimodal media, is likely to favour student implication in reading the classics and their appropriation of them. This qualitative study involved four different classes of students aged between 15 and 18. Each class participated in three teaching sequences which combined the use of multimodal, digital media with more traditional activities.Through analysis of a mixed corpus of traditional student writing, multimodal writing, filmed presentations, questionnaires and interviews, this study aims to provide a comprehensive, in-depth description of the path taken by twelve readers. The results confirm that employing a teaching protocol incorporating digital, multimodal media favours reader implication, appropriation of the reading and the expression of subjectivity. The results also highlight the importance of exchanges between readers, the role of interactions within the teaching sequence, and the pertinence of broadening the spaces and timeframes beyond the classroom which opens up a place for subjective expression. The analysis reveals a relatively varied level of mastery of multimodal, digital media by the pupils involved in the study, which confirms the importance of rational, systematic education in this domain

Full textNowadays, there is a renewal of interest in cultural issues. This enhanced interest stems from recognition of formerly undervalued cultures, the migration of peoples and cultures, globalization, extremism. The culture is at the same time a factor of integration and exclusion. Such a context entails cultural matters as the hobbyhorse of the French class entrusted with an unwritten mission of peacemaking, connecting people and cultures, thanks to his teaching contents. In this respect, the glossary and the texts are precious teaching aids all the more as the French class reveals problems of comprehension, interpretation of passages related to ignorance of their cultural dimension on the one hand, and on the other hand the primacy of formalism and technicism in pedagogic and didactic management of reading sessions. This doctoral thesis seeks to answer the double question of to what extent the interpretative semantics can help rehabilitate the meaning by promoting, during lexical and textual sessions, interpretative activities that highlight in all kinds of texts the relationship language, meaning, culture, society and achieve the objectives of the cultural training, the challenges of national integration and globalization. Its ambition is also to significantly fill this hermeneutic and cultural gap by renewing some classroom practices through interpretive semantics of which this thesis intends to be a didactic transposition

Full textLearning styles have been the subject of educational discussion since 1967. The Dunn and Dunn model has been world leading ever since. The Dunn and Dunn theory states that each individual learns differently and that school can help the students’ results by adapting the teaching to each student’s learning style and perceptual preference. This study focuses on learning styles and especially its connection to reading. When, where and why a student chooses to read is of importance and can affect the reading outcome. To get insight into how students read, this study looks at what type of setting students choose to read in when they do not read in school. It also examines students’ attitudes. The study also discusses how learning style-based learning can help teachers in their work.

Dissertation is linked to the Portuguese Language Reading, Writing and Teaching research line and in an interface with the Portuguese Language History and Description research line focuses on the reading of the written text as a complex process, explained by the integration of different linguistic and non-linguistic skills. Therefore, its theme is the textual production processes in written language and, although they are deemed as inseparable, the significant reading of written records is preferred, as basis for the writing of the same readings. The general goal is aimed at the extent of the comprehension level of the textualspeech production of the researcher himself who, on the one hand, aim at contributing with the planning of institutional didactic proposals aimed at the education of the proficient reader: that who becomes capable of incorporating knowledge that qualifies the culture of the written civilization into his daily social practices. The same knowledge, on the other hand, shall contribute so that the researcher, playing the social role of teacher, can extend the previous knowledge of his students through a teaching practice contextualized by the modern scientific speech frames that focus on the language in the performance of his social, interactive and speech functions so that they also become proficient readers of different and varied written texts. The specific goals: 1) to understand, through a historical perspective, the different ways of reading and writing that guided the teaching and the learning of the written language, in the teaching space, contributing to finding out which models of reading practices needed to be contextualized by the teacher s teaching practices: intensive reading inseparable from the extensive reading; 2) understanding, organizing and ordering theoretical grounds of the Textual Linguistics of the interactive, cognitive and social branch that enabled an approach of the textual-speech production processes through an integrated perspective of the micro and macro processes that respond for meanings production skills; 3) verifying through linguistic and non-linguistic categories ordering these processes how they: a) guide analytical reading processes of a history narrative, differentiating it from a report narrative; b) enable the reader to dislocate himself from the linguistic knowledge to the non-linguistic knowledge, through authorized inferences; c) build the semantic basis of the text analyzed by the production of micro and macro positions and, thus proceeding, attribute meanings to the texts he reads and, through the results obtained, suggest the complementation of institutional didactic proposals, to contribute to their planning, through the significant reading that presupposes the intensive and the extensive, at the same time

Full textThe results of French students in national and international assessments highlight their difficulties in reading documentaries at the end of elementary school (9-11 years old). We sought to improve teaching practices in this area. While the PIRLS 2016 international survey provided its conclusions regarding the skills that French students were particularly lacking in reading and understanding documentaries, we defined our intentions: to make up for a teaching deficit due to the difficulty in defining the strategies to be taught, but also to compensate for social inequalities by teaching all students what the most advantaged among them build in their families. To do this, we had several possibilities: to transmit knowledge to teachers in order to modify their practices or, conversely, to modify their practices in order to influence their knowledge. Following Goigoux and Cèbe, we opted for the second solution. Based on the results of the research, we chose to design a device for teaching digital document reading by testing the continuous design approach in the use adapted by these researchers by designing a didactic tool, #LectureDoc, for cycle 3. In our doctoral research, we wanted to know if their approach would allow us to carry out our project successfully. Consequently, we asked ourselves three questions: - In what way is the first step of the Continuous Design in Use approach developed by Goigoux and Cèbe valid for designing a first prototype? - How can we make up for the weakness of the second stage of continuous design in use and refine the methodology for processing user feedback to improve the tool? - To what extent does the completion of the third stage of the continuous design in use approach allow us to test the effectiveness of our tool? In order to answer these questions, we have retraced the anamnesis of each of the steps of the continuous design in use of #LectureDoc. Empirical study 1 highlights the need to use literature reviews in three areas of knowledge to design a first prototype of the tool. They did not, however, exempt us from the need to resort to additional studies to achieve this. Empirical study 2 proposes a methodological contribution concerning indicators of usefulness, usability and acceptability to help improve each of the two prototypes tested and co-designed with volunteer teachers. Empirical study 3, disrupted by the Covid 19 epidemic, did not allow us to test the effects of our tool on students. However, our test, LDN v3, is a contribution. We conclude our research work, mixing didactics and design ergonomics, by likening it to a current of design didactics

This thesis had objectives like to improve the reading and writing of Literary Memories, through the creation of educommunication materials, developed in activities sequenced in the Digital Board, in the teaching-learning process of Portuguese Language of 7th grade students of a municipal school in Feira de Santana (BA). The Digital board enables the insertion of didactic-pedagogical objects with historical and cultural themes and the interaction between the students. These materials were elaborated based on a didactic sequence, produced by the teacher-researcher, as proposed by Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004), which brings the singularity and popular narratives as the theme of Feira de Santana. In addition, the materials created appear as a stimulus to the local cultural manifestation, their respective insertion in the school routine, the constancy of the rewriting and the prevalence of student protagonism. In order to guide this research, the studies of Ricoeur (2003) and Smolka (2000) regarding the conception of memory have as theoretical background, Hall (2003) and Kellner (2001) in the cultural and identity sphere; the socio-interactionism (IVIC AND COELHO, 2010; VIGOTSKY, 2007); the use of new technologies and Digital board with L?vy (1999) and Nakashima and Amaral (2009); the textual genre Literary Memories with Clara and Altenfelder (2008) and (re) writing with Fiad (1997) and Borges (2016). The methodology used was qualitative, through an intervention proposal (DAMIANI, 2012), in order to demonstrate the students' progress in the textual production of the Literary Memories genre, comparing the initial text with the final text. The intervention took place in the first academic quarter (2017), in weekly meetings. For the production of data, we record in logbook and analysis grid of written productions, in addition to a diagnostic questionnaire and subject scripts. The results of this study point out that the use of multimodal resources contributes, qualitatively, to the teaching-learning process, besides stimulating the student protagonist performance, bringing frequency as one of the variables to advance the knowledge of the subjects. Still, we realize that the diffusion of local history and culture drives discoveries outside the school space, bringing the student closer to his community

Full textIt has become imperative in the current context of Brazilian public school the reading practices as an agenda of constant reflection and research for alternatives that can contribute to the development of the reading comprehension in various levels of middle school students, given the Saeb data and Prova Brasil (2014), whose large-scale assessments showed difficulties of the students to select implicit information, inferring the meaning of a word or expression, among others; there by, indicating, serious deviations of understanding and the appropriation of the writing production, in the act of reading. Based on this fact, the present report has as a guiding objective to promote the formation of a proficient and critical reader through the analysis of Brazilian social protest songs in activities of reading and understanding the implicit textual, enabling recognize them as situated discursive practices in daily life that can contribute to the formation of active citizens in society. Was taken as theoretical support the studies of textual linguistics, the sociocultural perspective; using the sociointeractional language design, subject and text for which the textual and discursive understanding can only be understood when it exceeds the limits of decoding linguistic elements and reaches the horizons of mobilization of the socio-historical and cultural knowledge and reconstruction of these within a communication situation in a given context. Therefore, we used a qualitative research, with the methodological approach by the application of didactics sequence in a 9th grade of elementary school, that used the song of social protest genre as mediator. Taking into account the proposal prepared for the research and what was executed, it is possible to say that the understanding of the text work from the songs analysis is configured as a positive and effective alternatives, as the students found new forms of meanings construction for the studied texts. The results obtained from this work fulfilled the ultimate goal of this trajectory that is becoming theoretical and practical support for the development of a concrete tool for socialization of experienced knowledge: the Pedagogical Section, whose main purpose is to share successful experiences with other Portuguese-speaking teachers in teaching and in the reading learning process.
