Abstract:
This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe the representation of literal and nonliteral speech acts in the novel "Dear Allah" by Diana Febi. From a theoretical perspective, this research uses a sociopragmatic system or view. While the method or technique of data collection in this research is a documentation study or literature study, in this case, the literature review is in the form of texts contained in the novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi. The novel is the primary data source. Documentation or literature studies are carried out through direct appreciation and rational understanding of the meaning implied in the novel. The results of this study show (1) representative literal speech acts in Diana Febi's novel Dear Allah and (2) representative nonliteral speech acts in Diana Febi's novel Dear Allah. This research makes a scientific contribution, especially in linguistics, on the sociopragmatic aspect so that understanding the implied meaning of a novel can be understood as a whole in terms of social meaning.

ABSTRACT: This article explores the historical, editorial and literary circumstances that propitiated the elaboration of a ‘pastoral’ version of El Abencerraje for its interpolation at the end of Book IV of La Diana by Jorge de Montemayor. After analysing the incorporation of the Moorish tale into the editorial sequence of the pastoral text, its literary genesis, the mechanisms of composition and its function in the structure of La Diana, the work offers a reasoned hypothesis about what happened that would justify the preparation of a new critical edition of both works.

Abstract:
This article examines Diana Thorneycroft’s alternately playful, ambivalent and critical engagement with contemporary English-Canadian cultural nationalism through a close reading of her 2010 series titled A People’s History. More specifically, it explores how this series represents the latest result of a series of formal experimentations with dolls, the diorama, visual humour and quotations of commodity culture. In bringing together all of these disparate elements, Thorneycroft lures us into the dark side of Canadian national memory, forcing us to accept that sexual predation and colonial violence are also “part of our heritage”.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
In 1576, the year after she married the aspiring architect Francesco da Volterra and moved to Rome, a Mantuan engraver named Diana (known in the twentieth century as Diana Scultori) produced a large, single-sheet engraving of an Ionic volute, richly decorated with a chain of stylized acanthus leaves and flowers, and a slightly abbreviated version of the egg-and-dart and bead-and-reel moldings that adorned the capital (fig. 1). In its size, its attention to decorative detail, and its pictorial character, Diana's print differed quite a bit from the model-bookish profiles of the classical orders previously in circulation (fig. 2). Most unusual, though, was the signature of a woman under several lines of Latin text engraved beneath the image, explicitly dedicating it to students of architecture: “This volute from an ancient capital of a Numidian stone column of the composite order, in St. Peter's in the Vatican, was drawn by Francesco da Volterra and Baptista di Petra Santa for the common use of students of this art. Diana Mantuana, wife of the same Francesco, engraved [it] in Rome. 1576.”
