Abstract:
Hydroponics is water management that is used as a medium for plant growth, deep flow technique hydroponics is a hydroponic system that circulates water continuously in a closed flow circuit using a pump. DFT hydroponics. This research was carried out by paying attention to the piping system and drawing the installation of the piping system using the Inventor software and then testing. Data collection was carried out by analyzing the supply system, calculating the flow rate, determining the type of flow and performing a strength simulation on the DFT hydroponic rack using the Inventor software application. The research shows the flow rate is 1.43 L/minute and the pump flowrate is 10 L/minute so that the water supply efficiency is 0.143 L/minute (14%). The resulting Reynolds value is 1304.61 m2/s, so the flow that works is laminar flow. Based on the simulation results, the maximum stress on the DFT hydroponic rack is 1616 MPa while the load on the DFT hydroponic rack is 37.8426 MPa so it is safe to use.Keywords:Piping system, hydroponic deep flow tehnique

Abstract:
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is chosen as multiplexing techniques and broadly used in today’s radiocommunication environments to overcome spectrum insufficiency. With several superior advantages, however, OFDM is terribly affected by high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) due to offset frequency errors and local oscillator (LO) frequency synchronization errors. The high PAPR can cause nonlinear distortion, which outcomes in intermodulation and spectral leakage. This study aims to model the use of wavelet transform (discrete wavelet transform (DWT)) to replace Fourier transform (discrete Fourier transform (DFT)) that used in conventional OFDM, later in this paper is termed as DFT-OFDM. Clipping filtering techniques then applied to DWT-OFDM. The model was proposed to reduce PAPR in DFT-OFDM. The model was compared to DFT-OFDM using Matlab simulation method. The performance was evaluated using the Complementary Cumulative Distributive Function (CCDF) vs. PAPR. The results show that at PAPR 10-3for DFT-OFDM, it was produced PAPR of 10.6 dB whereas in DWT-OFDM, using Daubechies orde 7 (Daubechies7), Symlet orde 7 (Symlet7), Coiflet orde 2 (Coiflet2), were reached PAPR 4.8 dB, PAPR 3.3 dB, PAPR 3 dB, respectively. It means Coiflet2 providing the best PAPR reduction among other orthogonal wavelets. By applied clipping filtering to wavelet Coiflet2, it was produced PAPR of 2.9 dB for classical clipping and 2.8 dB for deep clipping. It show that wavelet Coiflet2 with deep clipping provided the best PAPR.

Abstract:
Deep Flow Technique (DFT) merupakan salah satu sistem hidroponik dimana akar tanaman diletakkan dalam lapisan air dengan ketinggian 3 – 4 cm. Air tersebut tersirkulasi karena adanya dorongan dari pompa dan mengandung nutrisi sesuai kebutuhan tanaman. Beberapa model hidroponik DFT yang sudah dikembangkan diantaranya adalah model meja, model piramida, dan model anak tangga, dan ketiga model tersebut digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya perbedaan terhadap rata-rata tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, dan berat tanaman pakcoy pada ketiga model hidroponik DFT tersebut. Analisis yang digunakan adalah Anava (Analisis Varians) one way karena hanya ada satu variabel independen pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan rata-rata tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, dan berat tanaman pakcoy dengan menggunakan hidroponik DFT model meja, model piramida, dan model anak tangga. Hidroponik DFT model piramida merupakan model yang menghasilkan tinggi tanaman paling baik, jumlah daun paling banyak, dan berat tanaman paling besar apabila dibandingkan dengan hidroponik DFT model meja dan model anak tangga, dengan hasil rata-rata tinggi tanaman 18.4 cm, rata-rata jumlah daun 10.8 helai, dan rata-rata berat tanaman 111.8 g.

Seiring dengan kemajuan teknologi, serangan terjadi pada industri photography di mana banyak penyalahgunaan foto yang memiliki hak cipta tanpa seijin pemilik foto tersebut. Karena itulah dibuat sebuah aplikasi yang berfungsi untuk menyisipkan watermark dengan menggunakan metode DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform). Metode tersebut adalah metode matematika yang sering digunakan dalam bidang elektronika dan komputer. Metode ini secara khusus digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang berhubungan dengan frekuensi, sehingga metode ini dapat digunakan dalam bidang citra digital. Metode ini diterapkan untuk melakukan penyisipan dan ekstraksi watermark pada citra penampung. Watermark tersebut disisipkan kedalam frekuensi domain pada gambar dan akan menghasilkan output citra ber-watermark atau embeded image. Hal ini adalah untuk mencegah penyalahgunaan hak cipta, namun watermark tersebut tidak nampak secara fisik. Hal ini dilakukan selain memberikan jaminan keamanan terhadap gambar, tapi juga tidak mengurangi estetika pada gambar tersebut. Analisa yang dilakukan adalah tingkat keberhasilan proses insertion dan extraction, serangan pada citra, uji kemiripan dengan pengujian NPCR (Number of Pixel of Change Rate), UACI (Unified Averaged Changed Intensity), dan PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) pada proses insertion dan extraction. DFT disimpulkan aman terhadap serangan berupa cropping, resize, dan editing. Selain itu, dihasilkan nilai presentase perubahan yang rendah pada pengujian NPCR & UACI dan nilai yang tinggi pada pengujian PSNR.

Hidroponik DFT adalah suatu metode hidroponik di mana akar tanaman berada dalam larutan nutrisi dengan ketinggian 3-4 cm, yang tersirkulasi secara kontinu selama 24 jam. Selama ini siswa SMAN 1 Batur belum mengetahui tentang hidroponik, terutama dalam pembuatan konstruksi model hidroponik. Dengan demikian, para siswa belum memiliki keterampilan pada salah satu program double track SMAN 1 Batur, yaitu bidang budidaya tanaman hidroponik. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan pelatihan pembuatan hidroponik DFT model meja, yang merupakan model hidroponik sederhana konstruksinya dan mudah dibuat, dengan tujuan memberikan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan meletakkan dasar jiwa kewirausahaan pada siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan tentang teori hidroponik dan pelatihan tentang praktik pembuatan hidroponik DFT model meja. Hasilnya yaitu pada akhir kegiatan tingkat pengetahuan siswa meningkat 88%-100% dengan rata-rata 94%, sedang tingkat keterampilan siswa meningkat 82%-100% dengan rata-rata 92,5%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa para siswa SMAN 1 Batur mampu menyerap materi penyuluhan dan pelatihan yang diberikan

Aquaponik merupakan salah satu cara budidaya tanaman dengan hidroponik bersamaan dengan budidaya ikan, dimana air berputar terus tanpa berhenti. Pada sistem aquaponik tidak memerlukan nutrisi AB mix untuk memberikan unsur hara pada tanaman, tetapi unsur hara diperoleh dari air kolam ikan yang mengandung nutrisi, yang berasal dari ikan. Selada (Lactuca sativa L.) yang ditanam secara hidroponik merupakan sayuran yang digemari karena harganya tinggi dan sehat untuk dikonsumsi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya tidaknya perbedaan hasil budidaya tanaman selada secara aquaponik menggunakan tiga model hidroponik DFT. Metode yang digunakan adalah pengukuran lapangan, yang meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, dan berat tanaman selada, serta analisis data hasil pengukuran. Selain itu juga dilakukan pengukuran suhu, pH dan konsentrasi air kolam, serta kandungan amonia pada air kolam. Hasil pengukuran lapangan dengan hidroponik DFT model meja, model piramida, dan model anak tangga dianalisis untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan menggunakan Anava (Analisis Varians) satu jalan pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Berdasarkan Anava diketahui bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil pengukuran tanaman selada dengan menggunakan ketiga model hidroponik DFT, dan yang berpengaruh paling baik adalah model piramida, dengan hasil rata-rata 21,8 cm untuk tinggi tanaman, rata-rata 8,4 helai untuk jumlah daun, dan rata-rata 75,3 g untuk berat tanaman.

Lettuce is a type of green leafy vegetable that has many benefits and a good source of vitamins. DFT hydroponics is plant cultivation without using soil. Cocopeat and hydroton are hydroponic growing media. This study aims to (i)determine the effect of various compositions of the DFT hydroponic growing media on growth and yield of lettuce (ii) obtaining the best composition of the DFT hydroponic planting media on growth and yield of lettuce. This study was conducted in Rica Village, Paringin District, Balangan Regency from February to April 2019. This study used a Randomized Design Group (RDG)single factor. The factors observed were the composition of the hydroponic planting media of the DFT system (m) by as much as 5 degrees of consisting of m1 = 100% cocopeat: 0% hydroton (100 g cocopeat: 0 g hydroton), m2 = 0% cocopeat: 100% hydroton (0 g cocopeat: 100 g hydroton) , m3 = 50% cocopeat: 50% hydroton (50 g cocopeat: 50 g hydroton), m4 = 75% cocopeat: 25% hydroton (75 g cocopeat: 25 g hydroton), m5 = 25% cocopeat: 75% hydroton (25 g cocopeat: 75 g hydroton). The results showed that the treatment of the composition of the hydroponic growing media had a very significant effect on plant height 14,21,28 and 35 HST, the effect was very significant on the number of leaves 7,21,28 and 35 HST, significantly affected the wet weight of the plant. The best treatment is obtained at m5 = 25% cocopeat: 75% hydroton (25 g cocopeat: 75 g hydroton).

Sungai merupakan tempat berkumpulnya air yang mengalir menuju tempat yang lebih rendah, keberadaan aliran sungai tentunya berguna untuk pemanfaatan kepentingan manusia karena air merupakan kebutuhan utama dalam kehidupan manusia contohnya untuk pertanian. Maka perlu adanya usaha pengendalian pemanfaatan air untuk memaksimalkan secara optimal ketersediaan air dan kebutuhan air dengan cara irigasi dan pembangunan bendung yang berguna untuk menaikan tinggi muka air sungai sehingga debit air bisa masuk ke saluran irigasi. Penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kondisi surplus dan defisit air dari hasil neraca air. Lokasi penelitian di Bendung Copong Garut untuk irigasi Daerah Irigasi Leuwigoong dengan areal seluas 5.313 ha debit andalan sungai sebesar 33.34 m3/det dengan menggunakan metode FJ Mock, evapotranspirasi terbesar pada bulan September 5,09 mm/hari dengan menggunakan metode Penman Modifikasi. Pola tanam menggunakan Padi-Padi-Palawija dengan kebutuhan air bersih disawah sebesar 0,451 l/det/ha, debit di pintu pemngambilan air sebesar 9,30 m3/det dan kebutuhan air selama penyiapan lahan menggunakan metode Van de Goor dan Zijlstra (1968). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan kondisi neraca air ketersediaan air di Bendung Copong dan kebutuhan air di Daerah Irigasi Leuwigoong pada bulan September mengalami defisit air dengan kebutuhan air sebesar 6,59 m3/det dan ketersediaan air sebesar 5,59 m3/det.

The consequence of increase worldly consumption of chicken meat and also as processed meat products, brings about an increase concern of its quality as fresh meat in particular those related to meat color abnormalities as PSE (Pale, Soft, Exudative) and DFD-like (Dark, Firm, Dry). Thus the objective of this work was to investigate the influence of using broiler PSE meat and DFD-like meat (a-DFD) as raw material for processing meat products. Breast fillet meat were analyzed after 24h post mortem in a commercial meat processing line and classified as PSE-, a-DFD- and Normal-meats based on the association of pH and L* values. Abstract:
In this work we study the interesting physics of the rare earths, and the microscopic state after ultrafast magnetization dynamics in iron. Moreover, this work covers the development, examination and application of several methods used in solid state physics. The first and the last part are related to strongly correlated electrons. The second part is related to the field of ultrafast magnetization dynamics. In the first part we apply density functional theory plus dynamical mean field theory within the Hubbard I approximation to describe the interesting physics of the rare-earth metals. These elements are characterized by the localized nature of the 4f electrons and the itinerant character of the other valence electrons. We calculate a wide range of properties of the rare-earth metals and find a good correspondence with experimental data. We argue that this theory can be the basis of future investigations addressing rare-earth based materials in general. In the second part of this thesis we develop a model, based on statistical arguments, to predict the microscopic state after ultrafast magnetization dynamics in iron. We predict that the microscopic state after ultrafast demagnetization is qualitatively different from the state after ultrafast increase of magnetization. This prediction is supported by previously published spectra obtained in magneto-optical experiments. Our model makes it possible to compare the measured data to results that are calculated from microscopic properties. We also investigate the relation between the magnetic asymmetry and the magnetization. In the last part of this work we examine several methods of analytic continuation that are used in many-body physics to obtain physical quantities on real energies from either imaginary time or Matsubara frequency data. In particular, we improve the Padé approximant method of analytic continuation. We compare the reliability and performance of this and other methods for both one and two-particle Green's functions. We also investigate the advantages of implementing a method of analytic continuation based on stochastic sampling on a graphics processing unit (GPU).

As condições de manejo pré-abate e o transporte das aves para o abatedouro representam significantes perdas econômicas devido a injúrias que comprometem a qualidade da carne. Os problemas gerados podem ser de ordem física e influenciam na apresentação da carcaça ou de ordem fisiológica e/ou bioquímica, que resultam em carne PSE (Pale, Soft, Exudative) ou análogo ao DFD (Dark, Firm, Dry). O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar o efeito do transporte dos frangos da granja até o abatedouro na incidência de carnes PSE e análogo ao DFD em uma linha comercial de abate. O estudo foi realizado em duas etapas utilizando-se para cada etapa 900 filés de frango (Pectoralis major) como matéria prima. Previamente, na primeira etapa estimou-se a incidência de PSE e análogo ao DFD em filés de frangos nas distâncias médias de 4, 20 e 62 km de transporte até o abatedouro. Na segunda etapa foi avaliado o efeito do banho com água nos frangos após o carregamento na incidência de PSE e análogo ao DFD e comparado com as diferentes distâncias médias de transporte de 3, 8 e 68 km da granja até o abatedouro. Os filés de frango foram coletados 24 horas post-mortem para determinação do valor de pH e cor (L*, a* e b*), pelo sistema CIELAB e correlacionados com anomalias PSE e análogo ao DFD. Na primeira etapa, pode-se concluir que o transporte dos frangos na distância média de 20 km proporcionou maior incidência de carnes PSE e na distância média de 4 km, maior incidência de carnes a-DFD. Já a utilização do banho com água antes do transporte, resultou em menores índices de carnes PSE na distância de 68 km, sendo que nas distâncias inferiores, este se mostrou prejudicial, aumentando a incidência de carnes PSE. Finalmente, este trabalho demonstrou que em longas distâncias o banho exerceu efeito positivo na melhoria das condições do micro ambiente durante o transporte.
The preslaughtering management conditions including transportation from farm to the slaughterhouse may represent significant economical losses to poultry meat industries due to the injuries affecting their meat qualities. These injuries can be either through physical origin which influence carcass presentation or physiological and/or biochemical origin resulting on the PSE (Pale, Soft, Exudative) or DFD-like-meat (Dark, Firm, Dry) formation. The objective of this work was to investigate the broilers transportation from farm to slaughterhouse on the occurrence of PSE- and DFD-like-meat in a commercial plant. This experiment was conducted in two phases using 900 samples of breast fillets meat (Pectoralis major) in each phase. It was estimated at the first phase the occurrence of PSE- and DFD-like- meat of transporting distances of 4.0, 20.0 and 62.0 km. At the second phase this estimation was carried out in samples with water shower just after truck loading while in the farm at the transporting distances averaged of 3.0, 8.0 and 68.0 km. Meat samples were collected 24h post mortem and analyzed for pH and color values (L*, a* e b*) through the CIELAB system and related them to the meat abnormalities as PSE and DFD-like- meat. Results indicated that at first phase the averaged transportation distance of 20 km showed higher occurrence of PSE meat while the distance of 4 km presented higher incidence of DFD-like meat. At the second phase with the use of water shower before transportation there was lower occurrence of PSE meat at the distance of 68.0 km and at shorter transportation distances there was an increase of PSE meat. Finally, this work demonstrated that the conditions for long distances the water shower resulted in an improvement of climate micro-environment in the birds transporter lorry.

O direcionamento da produção de suínos para um aumento na porcentagem de carne magra na carcaça, tem levado à modificações substanciais tanto na composição centesimal como nas características bioquímicas do músculo, como o PSE (Pale, Soft e Exudative), o que significa Pálida, Macia e Esxudativa, e DFD (Dark, Firm e Dry) Escura, Firme e Seca. Estas carnes apresentam propriedades funcionais comprometidas, sendo um dos maiores problemas enfrentados pela indústria processadora devido a perdas econômicas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a incidência de PSE e DFD no lombo suíno (Longissimus dorsi), em uma linha comercial de abate e avaliar as características bioquímicas e da ultra-estrutura dos lombos PSE e DFD. Em um frigorífico 946 lombos foram analisados quanto ao pH e cor e classificados como PSE, DFD e Normal. Os lombos PSE, DFD e Normal foram analisados com relação ao valor de R, perda de peso por cozimento (PPC), força de cisalhamento (FC), índice de fragmentação miofibrilar (IFM), lipídios totais, oxidação lipídica, perfil de ácidos graxos e microscopia eletrônica. A incidência de lombos PSE, DFD e Normal foi de 22,83%, 1,06%, 76,11%, respectivamente. Os valores de pH e cor dos lombos suínos PSE, DFD e Normal diferiram significativamente (p£0,05) entre si. O valor de R foi significativamente maior (p£0,05) para os lombos PSE do que DFD. A FC e a PPC não diferiu significativamente entre os lombos PSE, DFD e Normal. O IFM foi significativamente maior (p£0,05) para o lombo DFD. A oxidação lipídica foi 42% maior para o lombo PSE em relação ao normal e DFD. O perfil de ácidos graxos dos lombos suínos PSE, DFD e Normal não apresentou diferença significativa entre si. Finalmente os resultados histológicos apresentaram vários eventos bioquímicos incluindo a contração do sarcômero nos lombos PSE. Ao mesmo tempo foi observada uma seqüência aparente das atividades das proteases endógenas musculares inicialmente pela despolimerização das proteínas miofibrilares próximas e no disco Z e conseqüentemente a fragmentação destes discos e por último o colapso do sarcômero e de algumas estruturas miofibrilares.
The aim of pork production in order to have an increase in non fat meat in the carcass has brought about changes not only on proximate chemical composition but also within the muscle biochemical characteristics as PSE (Pale, Soft and Exudative) meaning pale, soft and exudative meat and DFD (Dark, Firm and Dry) meaning dark, firm and dry meat. Both meat types present functional properties impaired and this phenomena represent an actual economical problems to the meat industries. The objective of this work was to investigate the occurrence of pork L. dorsi PSE- and DFD- meat at a commercial plant and to evaluate their biochemical and ultra structural characteristics. Longissimus dorsi samples in number of 946, were analyzed in relation to pH and color thus classified as PSE-, DFD- and Normal- meat. They were also analyzed in relation to R value, cooking loss (CL), tenderness measured through shear force (SF) value, miofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI), total lipid concentration, lipid oxidation, fatty acids profile and ultra structural observation. The occurrence of PSE-, DFD- and normal meat was 22.83, 1.06, 76.11%, respectively. pH and color values differed significantly (p£0.05). R value was significantly higher for PSE- in relation to DFD- meat (p£0.05). Tenderness and CL did not differ significantly while MFI was significantly higher for DFD meat although this value was not sufficient to show difference in SF. Lipid oxidation was 42.0% higher in PSE- in relation to both normal and DFD- meat samples. Fatty acids profile did not show significantly differences in every samples evaluated. Lastly, histological results showed several biochemical events including sarcomere contraction in PSE meat samples. Also it was noticeable an apparent sequence of muscle endogenous proteases activities, firstly at the depolimerized myofibril proteins near and at the Z-disks consequently the fragmentation of the Z-disks and ultimately the collapse of the sarcomere and to some of the myofibril structures.

O microambiente térmico que se forma no caminhão de transporte de frangos da granja ao abatedouro pode ser a causa primária que compromete o bem estar das aves e a qualidade final da carne com o desenvolvimento de PSE (Pale, Soft, Exudative) e a-DFD (Dark, Firm, Dry) em filés de peito. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar no inverno e verão a ocorrência de PSE e a-DFD em filés de peito de frango em um abatedouro comercial. Além de caracterizar o microambiente térmico no caminhão de transporte em diferentes distâncias no inverno e verão, investigouse o efeito do banho de água aplicado sobre os frangos no verão. No inverno, as distâncias de transporte de frangos foram 15 e 57 km e no verão foram 15, 35 e 55 km. Para caracterização do microambiente térmico no caminhão (frente, meio e fundo) foram utilizados termohigrômetros para registrar a temperatura e umidade relativa nas duas estações e termoanemômetros para registrar a velocidade do vento no verão. Para classificação dos filés de peito em PSE e a-DFD, o pH e a cor (L*, a* e b*) foram medidos nos filés de peito de frango 24h post mortem. A análise de regressão logística foi utilizada para verificar no inverno e verão, o efeito das distâncias de transporte de frangos, da região das caixas no caminhão (frente, meio e fundo) e da aplicação do banho de água sobre os frangos após o carregamento na ocorrência de PSE em filés de peito. O Teste de Tukey a 5% de significância foi utilizado para comparação de médias. A ocorrência de PSE em filés de peito de frango no verão (n= 540) foi de 55,5% e no inverno (n= 650) foi de 27,2%. A ocorrência de a-DFD foi de 0,9% apenas no inverno. Pela análise de regressão logística foi observado que no inverno a distância de transporte de frangos não apresentou efeito significativo (p= 0,7705) na ocorrência de PSE, sendo verificado cerca de 27% (n=270) de PSE nas duas distâncias. No inverno foi observado que a região do fundo do caminhão devido as temperaturas elevadas apresentou maior ocorrência de PSE, sendo 59% (n= 180). No verão, a distância de 55 km apresentou efeito significativo (p= 0,0002) na ocorrência de PSE, sendo verificado 57,8% (n=360) de PSE. No verão, as regiões do meio e fundo do caminhão apresentaram maior ocorrência de PSE, 51,8% (n= 360) e 54,6% (n= 360), respectivamente, devido a temperatura elevada e ventilação reduzida no microambiente destas regiões. A aplicação do banho de água sobre os frangos após o carregamento no caminhão reduziu a ocorrência de PSE em filés de peito no verão em cerca de 7,0% devido a redução de temperatura no microambiente do caminhão.
The thermal microenvironment produced during transportation from farm to the commercial slaughterhouse might be the primary cause to influence the broilers welfare consequently the final meat quality with development of breast fillet PSE (Pale, Soft, Exudative) and DFD-like (Dark, Firm, Dry) meat. The objective of this work was to investigate in the 2008 winter season (n=540) and summer season (n=650) the occurrence of PSE and DFD-like meat in an commercial abbatoir. Furthermore in both seasons the lorry thermal microenvironment was characterized in relation to temperature, relative moisture by thermologs and ventilation by thermoanemometer only in the summer. Also, the effect of watering application just before starting the transportation journey was evaluated in the summer on the meat color abnormalities. The distance run by the lorry was 15 and 57 km in the winter season and 15, 35 and 55 km in the summer season. Samples classification in PSE and DFD-like was carried ou by determining pH and color (L*, a* e b*) values on breast fillet taken 24h postmortem. The logistic regression analysis was used in order to verify in both seasons the effect of transport distance, location of birds boxes within the lorry areas (front, middle and rear) and birds? watering just before transportation. Tukey test 5.0% significance was applied for average comparison. Results showed PSE occurrence was 55.5% and 27.2% in the summer (n=650) and in the winter (n=540), respectively. DFD-like was not observed in the summer whilst in the winter season its occurrence was 0.9%. The distance of 15 and 57 km did not show any significant effect (p=0,7705) on the PSE occurrence during winter season. Also the highest PSE occurrence was observed at the lorry rear location because of highest locally temperature value. The distance of 55 km presented significatively (p=0,0002) the highest PSE occurrence of 57.0% during summer season. Also the lorry middle and rear locations promoted higher PSE occurrence because of locally higher temperature and lower ventilation. Finally, the watering application whilst in the farm was an important factor since there were approximately 7.0% less PSE occurrence in treated birds? samples.

Le nombre d’auteurs contemporains qui écrit pour les adultes et pour les enfants va croissant, à tel point que la critique anglophone a forgé le terme de crosswriters pour les désigner. Ce travail se propose d’observer ces va-et-vient entre L’école des loisirs et les Éditions de l’Olivier de 1991 à 2011. Ces circulations répondent à d’importants enjeux éditoriaux et témoignent du rôle crucial des éditeurs dans l’accompagnement des écrivains. Cette thèse s’intéresse plus particulièrement à Christophe Honoré et Manuela Draeger (un des hétéronymes d’Antoine Volodine). Tous deux usent singulièrement du crosswriting puisque certains de leurs textes pour enfants et de leurs textes pour adultes se répondent au point qu’un inter-dit peut siéger dans le blanc qui sépare ces deux corpus. Ce phénomène d’intratextualité, adossé à un geste de polyadresse, remet en cause l’intransitivité supposée de la littérature car pour être décrypté, ce dit en suspens appelle un lecteur transgénérationnel. Cet inter-dit est le lieu où se jouent des transitions d’un âge vers un autre, des transmissions d’une génération à une autre... Mais c’est aussi le lieu de ce qui ne passe pas et vient trouer l’œuvre pour faire écho au trauma individuel ou collectif. Et si c’est toujours le texte pour adultes qui délègue au texte pour enfants ce qui ne peut être articulé dans une langue adultocentrée, ces transferts ne viennent jamais suturer la béance du dispositif intratextuel mais explorent en littérature jeunesse d’autres rapports à la langue et disent quelque chose de l’être de langage que nous sommes
The number of contemporary authors who write both for adults and children keeps rising, so much so that anglophone criticism has coined the term crosswriters to label the phenomenon. This work proposes to observe back-and-forth crossings between L’école des loisirs and Éditions de l’Olivier between 1991 and 2011. What motivate these crossings are important editorial stakes that attest to the crucial role played by publishers in guiding their authors. This dissertation will look more specifically to Christophe Honoré and Manuela Draeger (one of Antoine Volodine’s heteronyms). Both writers resort to crosswriting in singular ways as some of their children’s books and books for adults respond to one another to such an extent that what I call an “inter-diction” lodges itself in the interstice that divides their respective corpuses. This phenomenon of intratextuality, supported by a gesture of polyaddress, calls into question literature’s supposed intransitivity given that, in order to be decrypted, this suspended diction calls for a transgenerational reader. This inter-diction is the stage where are performed transitions from one age to another and where occur transmissions from one generation to the next. But it is also the site of what does not pass, of what punctures the work in an echo to individual or collective trauma. And if it is always the texts written for an adult readership that devolve to those for children what cannot be articulated in an adultocentered language, these transfers never seek to suture the abyss opened by intratextuality but rather explore through children’s literature alternative relations to language, thereby teaching us something about the linguistic beings that we are

Since deregulation of the electric power industry, investment in the sector has not kept up with demand. State grids were interconnected to form vast power networks, which increased the overall system’s complexity. Conventional generation sources have, in some cases, closed under financial stress caused by the growing penetration of renewable sources and unfavourable government measures. The power system must adapt to a more demanding environment to that for which it was conceived. This thesis investigates the robustness of planning and simulation study tools for the determination of bus-voltages and voltage stability limits. It also provides an approach to obtain greater certainty in the determination of voltages where conventional methods fail to be deterministic. Two complementary methods for determining the collapse voltage are developed in this thesis. The first method applies Robust Padé approximations to the holomorphic embedding load flow method; while the second method uses the Newton-Raphson numerical calculation method to obtain both high and low voltage solution branches, and voltage stability limits of power system load buses. The proposed methods have been implemented using MATLAB and been demonstrated through a number of IEEE power system test cases. The robust Padé approximation algorithm improves the reliability of solutions of load flow problems when bus-voltages are presented in Taylor series form by converting the series into optimised rational functions. Differences between the classic Padé approximation algorithm and the new robust version, which is based on singular value decomposition (SVD), are described. The new robust approximation method can determine an optimal rational function approximation using the coefficients of a Taylor series expansion. Consequently, the voltage collapse points, as well as the steady-state voltage stability margin, can be calculated with high reliability. Voltage collapse points (i.e. branching points) are identified by using the locations of poles/zeros of a rational function approximation. Numerical examples are devised to illustrate potential use of the proposed method in practical applications. Use of the Newton-Raphson method, combined with the discrete Fourier transform and robust Padé approximation, enables the calculation of the voltage stability limits and both the high and low voltage solution branches for the load buses of a power system. This can work to a great advantage of existing N-R based software users, as problems of initial guess, multiple solutions and Jacobian matrix conditioning when operating close to the voltage collapse point are avoided. The findings are assessed by comparisons with conventional Newton-Raphson, the holomorphic embedding load flow method, and continuation power flow method. This thesis contains a combination of conventional and publication formats, where some introductory materials are included to ensure that the thesis delivers a consistent narrative. For this reason, the first two chapters provide the required background information, research gap identification and contributions, whilst other chapters are written to provide more detailed work that has not yet been published or to summarise the research outcomes and future research directions. Furthermore, publications are listed in their publication formats, complete with statements of the authors’ contributions.

Astrobiology forces us to realize how deeply tethered we are to this pale blue dot in the universe while also opening us to the exciting possibilities of existing in a fecund cosmos. Addressing both of these issues, this work offers a model for doing public theology attuned to astrobioloical humanities. It taps into theology’s capacity to develop societal goods by interpreting religious symbols as expressions of ultimacy that foster powerful moods for meaningfully ordering our ways of being-in and belonging-to the cosmos. Providing a series of specific examples drawn from astrobiology, doctrinal reflection on the imago Dei, and reflections on the Anthropocene, this book claims the Earth is not only a living planet but an artful one. Consequently, it suggests that the imago Dei be reframed in terms of planetarity: to be the imago Dei is to be a planetary system that opens up new possibilities for the flourishing of all creation by fostering technobiogeochemical cycles not subject to runaway, positive feedback. The imago Dei, then, is not something any one of us possesses; it is a symbol for what we live-into together as a species in intra-action with the wider habitable environment. Attentive to how this outlook can be fostered, the conclusion advocates for the development of presence, wonder, and play in the lives of individuals who seek to live as part of an artful planet.

Artikkelen tek føre seg nynorskopplæring og -vurdering for lærarstudentar utan norsk som fag. Når norsk ikkje lenger er obligatorisk for studentane på grunnskulelærarutdanning 5–10, er det uklart korleis utdanningane sikrar at også desse studentane får den forskriftsfesta profesjonskompetansen i begge skriftspråk. Resultatet kan vere ei gruppe kvalifiserte lærarar med fagkompetanse til å undervise på skular med både bokmål og nynorsk som opplæringsmål, men utan sikra profesjonsfagleg nynorskkompetanse. Korleis lærarutdanningane sikrar nynorskkompetansen til denne studentgruppa, er granska gjennom intervju med fire fagpersonar ved fire ulike lærarutdanningsinstitusjonar. Studien avdekkjer at det er generelt lågt fokus på nynorsk i andre fag enn norsk, og at det er utfordrande å sikre at studentane har tilstrekkeleg nynorskkompetanse. Tre overordna utfordringar peiker seg ut: Det er uklart kven som skal ha ansvaret for nynorskkompetansen til denne studentgruppa. Når eit institusjonsansvar vert personavhengig, vert det også sårbart. Også vitskapleg tilsette kan ha negative haldningar til nynorsk.

The structural, magnetic, electronic and elastic properties of A15 X3Ru (X = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) binary alloys are investigated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) methods. Ru-based alloys have attracted remarkable research interest due to their unique properties, which make them suitable for high-temperature structural applications. In this chapter, the properties of several A15 Ru-based alloys are investigated in order to select the best suitable alloy/s for aerospace application. Heats of formation are calculated to determine the thermodynamic stability of the materials. Knowledge of the values of elastic constants is essential for understanding the mechanical properties of the materials. From our calculated elastic constants, the bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, melting temperature, anisotropic factor and the ratio B/G are determined. The electronic density of states are calculated and discussed. Lastly, the magnetic properties of A15 X3Ru alloys are studied. Thermodynamically stable Mn3Ru possesses high-magnetic moment compared to other X3Ru alloys, these results could pave way to experimental realization (synthesis) of Mn3Ru material.

In the 1990 “pale blue dot” photograph that Carl Sagan asked NASA to take, we see the potential of a negative answer to Bernard Lonergan’s question to renew American public life. For Sagan, the isolation of the Earth in the cosmic vastness “underscores our responsibility to deal kindly with each other” and preserve our planet. The conclusion that the universe is not on our side is supported by numerous features of reality: lifeless matter, knowledge limited to the senses, death, decline, the vagaries of history, entropy of the universe, and more. We can accept living in this no. The universe is not hostile, merely neutral. Several thinkers show the way forward, especially John Gray. We can practice Simon Critchley’s faith of the faithless. The instrumental thought of Randy Barnett demonstrates how to construct healthy institutions. Anthony Kronman reminds us that our lives are meaningful only because of our mortality.

Contemporary Harput/Mezre, now called Elazığ (a shortened and altered version of the more regal sounding former provincial name of Mamuretülaziz), like many drab provincial Anatolian metropolises, bears few reminders of its imperial past. The ancient Urartu fortress, around which the bustling neighbourhoods of Harput once stood, now stands in splendid isolation perched high above the central city. The buildings that once comprised the campus of Euphrates College have long ago been demolished, along with the churches that were once an architectural mainstay of the hilltop city. The Armenian past of the once dual city has been methodically erased. Few reminders exist of the sojourners that regularly travelled between the villages that still dot the surrounding countryside and the factories of the American northeast. The Elazığ municipality website’s page on the region’s history ends abruptly in 1880, and makes no mention of its once substantial Armenian population....

On a May morning in 1957, ten thousand fish floated on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay, their pale, upturned bellies bobbing on the surface of the dark water. The crowd of carcasses described an arc that stretched along the shore from Richmond’s harbor south to Point Isabel. Many striped bass, a prized game fish, were among the dead. Seth Gordon, director of California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), fielded complaints from anglers outraged by the fish kill. The Public Health Committee of the State Assembly passed a resolution admonishing DFG for its failure to enforce pollution control laws. Gordon told the committee members off. “We want to stop pollution,” he said, “but the law as it stands puts our Department in the position of a boxer going into the ring with one hand tied behind his back.” The ability to set and enforce pollution standards rested with California’s nine regional water pollution control boards. To effect any change, Gordon’s department had to prove to the boards’ satisfaction that pollution allowed by existing standards was harmful to fish, a challenge that had so far proved impossible. Responding to questions about the East Bay fish kill, he said, “We still don’t know what caused the die-off, or where it came from.” David Joseph was then starting out as a DFG biologist, armed with a doctorate in marine biology from the University of California at Los Angeles. Born in Connecticut, on a cooperative farm where his parents raised dairy cows and shade-grown tobacco with other immigrant Russian Jews, he’d grown up in Inglewood, in southern California, when the place was still a bucolic town and he could ride his horse to the beach. He’d met his wife, Marion, when they were both students at UCLA. “He was an outdoor guy,” she remembers. “He wasn’t a fisherman, he just loved the sea, loved the land. His work was always going to have something to do with protecting the environment.”

This chapter describes a campaign to raise the minimum wage for hotel workers in Long Beach, California, exploring the deft use of the social change matrix to address income inequality in a way that was adapted to local conditions. The Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) studied the tourism industry in Long Beach and highlighted both the role of tax breaks for this industry in the community as well as the low wages paid to workers in it. Teaming up with a local chapter of UNITE HERE Local 11—the union that represents workers in the hotel, food service, and gaming industries—LAANE began to advocate for higher wages for employees in hotels in Long Beach. The UNITE HERE–LAANE partnership did not do much in terms of social media to promote its message, although it had a Facebook page and used Twitter and other channels. Instead, it used the mails and, most important, the face-to-face, door-to-door canvassing to get its message out.

Abstract.—The fishery for spiny dogfish <em>Squalus acanthias </em>within British Columbia (B.C.) has fluctuated greatly over the past 150 years. During the 1930s and 1940s it was one of the most valuable fisheries on the West Coast. Active management of this fishery began in 1977 after Canada extended its exclusive economic zone to 200 mi. The management of Pacific groundfish fisheries, including dogfish, is complex, and is further complicated by serious conservation concerns. Bycatch issues and the lack of full catch monitoring have been of particular concern. As a result, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) approached groundfish industry representatives to develop a plan to address these key issues. A program to make individual fishers more accountable for their harvest, to improve compliance with the DFO’s selective fishing and fishery monitoring policies, and to be consistent with Pacific fisheries reform was developed. This integration program was implemented in 2006 for commercial groundfish fisheries within B.C. As a result, at-sea monitoring was maximized to 100% and individual transferable quotas within each fishery allow fishermen to account for their groundfish bycatch on an annual basis. This new management system could help pave the way for other fisheries around the world to learn, adjust accordingly, and implement similar regimes.

In this chapter, the author acknowledges that over the last few decades, information and communications technologies (ICTs) have progressed at a remarkable pace. By the mid-1990s, the new technology had been used to engineer a major transformation of the private sector, reshaping markets and the basic building block of the modern economy: the corporation. Likewise, enthusiasts predicted that the public sector was about to go through a similar transformation. A new era in government was said to be dawning. For some, electronic- or e-government promised to transform government operations leading to major “efficiency gains” in service delivery. But e-government is proving more difficult and costly than first thought and the expected benefits have been slow to materialize. With some notable exceptions, the efficiency gains have been mixed. The boom in e-commerce was short-circuited by the dot-com bust. Is the bloom coming off the e-government rose? This chapter tries to shed more light on the pertinent issues and reflect a broader vision that e-government is about the transformation of government. A firm commitment from decision makers to think through the issues and steer the right course is critical or e-government could easily lose momentum or veer off course.

The Enigma cipher machine was slow and cumbersome to use. Sending a message was a complicated procedure requiring the participation of several operators (see photograph 24). The process started with the German plain-language, known as the ‘clear’ or the ‘plaintext’. Encrypting this produced the ‘ciphertext’. Typically, the plaintext or clear consisted of ordinary German words mixed with military abbreviations and jargon (such as WEWA for Wetter Warte, meaning ‘weather station’, and BINE, literally ‘bee’, meaning ‘very very urgent’). A cipher clerk typed the plaintext at the keyboard of an Enigma machine (see the diagram on page 17). Each time the clerk pressed a key, a letter on the lampboard would light. For example, typing HITLER might produce the letters FLKPIM. As the letters of the ciphertext appeared one by one at the lampboard, they were painstakingly noted down by an assistant. Various items of information were then added to the ciphertext, including the intended recipient’s radio call-sign, and a radio operator transmitted the complete message in Morse code. At the receiving end, the process had to be carried out in reverse. The radio operator turned the dit-dit-dahs of the Morse transmission back into letters of ciphertext and handed the result to the cipher clerk. The clerk typed the ciphertext at the keyboard of an Enigma, which had been set up identically to the sender’s machine. The letters of the plaintext lit up at the lampboard one by one and were recorded by the assistant. The Tunny system was much more sophisticated. The process of sending and receiving a message was largely automated. Encryption and decryption were entirely automatic. The transmitted ciphertext was never even seen by the German operators. At the sending end, a single operator typed plaintext at the keyboard of a teleprinter. At the receiving end, the plaintext was printed out automatically by another teleprinter. (A teleprinter is called a teletypewriter in the US.) The sender could switch his teleprinter equipment from ‘hand mode’ to ‘auto mode’. In auto mode, a pre-punched paper tape was fed into the equipment. The plaintext punched on the tape was encrypted and transmitted at high speed.

<em>Abstract.</em>—Canada’s <em>Fisheries Act</em>, the country’s primary law for regulating the harvesting of its marine and freshwater fisheries resources, includes provisions to regulate the impacts of human activities on fish and fish habitat. As a result of these provisions the <em>Fisheries Act </em>represents the main federal statute for protecting freshwater and marine aquatic ecosystems and is considered one of the strongest environmental laws in Canada. This paper outlines the legal and policy frameworks and institutional arrangements for the administration of these provisions of the <em>Fisheries Act</em>. It describes the review process and practices established by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) for administering the provisions of the <em>Act </em>assigned to the Department’s Fish Habitat Management Program (HMP). It defines the key issues and concerns raised about the delivery of the Fish Habitat Management Program and reviews initiatives undertaken to address these. It suggests that while these have improved delivery of the regulatory responsibilities of the HMP, there is a need for more fundamental changes that will enable it to keep pace with the increasing and cumulative impacts associated with population growth and economic development and create conditions under which human activities and fish and fish habitat can co-exist on a sustainable basis. This paper suggests that such a change must be founded on an ecosystem-based approach and on the application of modern scientific and management principles for regulating impacts to fish and fish habitat. It also describes steps to move forward to demonstrate and instill an ecosystem-based approach.
