Abstract:
Two hundred and eighteen taxa of the genus Agrilus (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) mostly from the Palaearctic and Oriental regions are studied and their taxonomic, nomenclatural, distributional or biological data are updated. For some species, the biological information is supplemented by images from the field, or distributional data by maps showing the whole range of the species. The synonymy of following Agrilus is updated: A. blairi Bourgoin, 1925 (A. telawensis Fisher, 1935 syn. nov.); A. lancifer Deyrolle, 1864 (A. perakianus Kerremans, 1900 syn. nov.); A. lestagei Théry, 1930 (A. collartianus Descarpentries & Villiers, 1963 syn. nov.); A. lugubris Kerremans, 1914 (A. achilleus Obenberger, 1935 syn. nov.); A. ocularis Deyrolle, 1864 (A. capitatus Deyrolle, 1864 syn. nov.), A. bidentellus Obenberger, 1924 syn. nov.) and Agrilus velatus Kerremans, 1912 (A. kuchingensis Tôyama, 1987 syn. nov.). The invalid synonyms A. myrmido Kerremans, 1912; A. myrmidonius Obenberger, 1936 and A. miwai Théry, 1936 are moved from the synonymy of A. achilleus Obenberger, 1935 to synonymy of A. lugubris Kerremans, 1914. A. massanensis Schaefer, 1955 is downgraded to subspecies A. pratensis massanensis Schaefer, 1955 status nov. The specific name samyi Baudon, 1968 is resurrected from the synonymy of A. suturaalba Deyrolle, 1864 and revalidated as Agrilus samyi Baudon, 1968 (nomen revalidatum).

The genus Synechocera is revised for the first time. Ten species are recognised as valid, with five described as new: S. bicolor, S. brooksi, S. burnsi, S. parvipennis and S. queenslandica. Synonymy is proposed for S. longior under S. tasmanica. S. tasmanica is designated as the new type-species, because of the ambiguous nature of the original type-species, Buprestis deplanus. Lectotypes are designated for S. albohrrta and S. elongata. Aphanisticus occidentalis is transferred to Paracephala. Previously described species are treated diagnostically; new species are fully described; all species are illustrated and a key is presented for their separation. The biology of S. tasmanica is discussed and both the larva and pupa are illustrated.

Subgeneric classification of Chrysodema Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1835 is revised and following synonymy is established: Chrysodema=Cyalithoides Fisher, 1922 syn. nov.; Pseudochrysodema Saunders, 1874=Leganya Hołyński, 1994 syn. nov.,=Marcsikiella Hołyński, 2014 syn. nov. Four subgenera are recognized as valid: Chrysodema s. str., Gelaeus Waterhouse, 1905, Pseudochrysodema Saunders, 1874, and Thymedes Waterhouse, 1905, and a key to the subgenera is given. Four species-groups are established in the subgenus Chrysodema s. str.: C. aeneoviolacea-group, C. aurostriata-group, C. eximia-group, and C. sonnerati-group. All known species, except the currently accepted synonyms of Chrysodema (Chrysodema) eximia Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1835, included in these groups are revised based on comparative study of extensive material including types of all described taxa. Three new species and one subspecies are described: Chrysodema (Chrysodema) dany sp. nov. from Haruku Island, Indonesia; C. (C.) gottwaldi sp. nov. from Palawan Island, Philippines; C. (C.) lewisii nakatai subsp. nov. from Yaeyama Islands, Japan; and C. (C.) vrabeci sp. nov. from Thailand and Laos. Chrysodema (C.) aeneoviolacea Deyrolle, 1864 stat. rev., C. (C.) dohrnii Saunders, 1874 stat. rev., and C. (C.) fuscitarsis Kerremans, 1895 stat. rev. are removed from synonymy with C. (C.) mniszechii Deyrolle, 1864; C. (C.) tonkinea Kerremans, 1909 stat. rev. is removed from synonymy with C. (C.) aurostriata Saunders, 1866. Three new synonymies are established: C. (C.) aeneoviolacea=C. (formerly synonym of C. (C.) mniszechii). Neotype is designated for C. (C.) sonnerati Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1835 and lectotypes are designated for following taxa to ensure their correct application and recognition in future: C. (C.) aurostriata, C. (C.) fairmairei, C. (C.) fuscitarsis, C. (C.) sumatrensis Kerremans, 1895, C. (C.) tonkinea, C. (C.) yerburyi Waterhouse, 1905, C. (P.) coelestina Obenberger, 1922, and C. (P.) inslabilis Deyrolle, 1864. Additionally, dark species of the subgenus Pseudochrysodema are revised and as a result C. (P.) coelestina stat. rev. and C. (P.) instabilis stat. rev. are removed from synonymy with C. (P.) radians (Guérin-Méneville, 1830) and a new species C. (Pseudochrysodema) jakli sp. nov. is described from Timor Island, Indonesia. All herein included taxa are illustrated with colour photographs of habitus and the male aedeagus when available. Abstract:
The unexpected rediscovery of the long-lost Penichrolucanini genus Xizangia Zhang, 1988 from China reveals the ant-association of the genus, unlike the termite-association of other Penichrolucanini species from SE Asia. The newly discovered populations of Xizangia from W and S Yunnan belong to a second species of the genus: Xizangia qiuae Huang & Chen, new species. Biological observations are given. Adult morphology including mouthparts, hindwing, male and female genitalia and larval morphology are described in detail for the new species. Brasilucanus alvarengai Vulcano & Pereira, 1961 and Penichrolucanus copricephalus Deyrolle, 1863 are figured in previously undescribed characters of mouthparts, hindwing and female genitalia. The current state of Penichrolucanini systematics is discussed.

Full text
Abstract:
The genus Cyalithoides Fisher (1922) has remained unstudied since its original description, with only subsequent listings by Obenberger (1926) and Bellamy (2003). Furthermore, it was discussed apparently without the type having been examined by Levey (1978) and Hoyski (1980) in relation to new taxa and classification proposals in their respective works. The unique holotype of C. fulgida Fisher (1922) was recently examined by us and was found to be synonymous with Chrysodema robusta Deyrolle (1864), and structurally coming very close to the type of C. cyanivertex Obenberger (1928), which is also a junior synonym of C. robusta. Lander’s (2003) recent revision of Chrysodema Laporte & Gory, 1835 provides confidence for the new synonymy proposals below as there are no differences in C. robusta that do not agree with the current definition of Chrysodema. One additional note is that Fisher must have considered Cyalithoides as feminine given his use of fulgida, as the specific epithet. Article 30.1.4.4 (ICZN 1999) states that genus-group endings in the suffix -oides are masculine unless the author stated another gender or treated it otherwise. Although Bellamy (2003) treated Cyalithoides as masculine, it can be argued that Fisher treated it as feminine and that definition has priority. Nonetheless, with the synonymy proposed herein, C. fulgida is moved to another feminine genus.
