Abstract:
Interpreting studies is a young subject in China. Chinese researchers have been making continuous progress in this field but the current studies of community interpreting develop at a relatively slow speed. Thus, the author intends to make a literature review about the development of community interpreting studies in China from monograph, essay and postgraduate dissertation relying on the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database. The current deficiencies and corresponding suggestions for community interpreting studies in China are also proposed aiming at its more comprehensive and healthier development.

Abstract:
Education and employment stakeholders worldwide have increasingly acknowledged the need to teach students soft skills to improve their academic performance and long-term prospects. Soft skills are transferable across jobs and industries and related to personal and social competencies. Their development aims to empower and increase personal growth and learning participation and improve job opportunities. Given their central role in shaping students’ educational experiences, teachers must be well-versed in the value of cultivating soft skills and awareness of the necessity to incorporate their study into various curricular frameworks. As a result, this article investigates whether business schools adequately prepare their students for the soft skills demanded by today’s labor market. Business teachers in Bosnia and Herzegovina were the subjects of the survey. The findings indicate that teachers recognize the value of teaching students soft skills but that current curricula may be strengthened in this area.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article explores ways of decolonising Development Studies by: (1) examining the discipline’s tendencies towards what some have called ‘imperial amnesia’, that is, proclivities towards disavowing if not erasing European colonialism, most evident in 1950s–1960s Modernisation theory, but also more recently in the work of such analysts as Bruce Gilley and Nigel Biggar; (2) considering the opportunities and perils of ‘epistemic decolonisation’, that is, ways of decolonising knowledge production in the discipline, including the limits of ‘non-Eurocentric’ pedagogies; and (3) reflecting on forms of material decolonisation (e.g., the reduction of socioeconomic inequalities by improving better access to education or resisting the corporatisation of publicly funded research) that need to accompany any epistemic decolonisation for the latter to be meaningful.

Abstract:
Critical Development Studies has long engaged with the study of globalization. However, the ways in which does so and how these interact, fuse and diverge from others working in the broad field of globalization studies remain avenues to explore. In this Introductory essay, we describe how critical development studies emerged and highlight some of its contributions before presenting an overview of the six papers which comprise this Special Issue. This Special Issue has its origins in the publication of our co-edited volume, The Essential Guide to Critical Development Studies (Veltmeyer & Bowles 2018), and an invitation to seek full-length articles which examine the ways in which critical development studies (cds) engages with the study of globalization.

Abstract:
In this survey paper the field of language curriculum development is defined as encompassing the processes of needs analysis, goal setting, syllabus design, methodology and evaluation. Each of these curriculum processes is surveyed and issues and practices in each area are discussed. Needs analysis is discussed in relation to language program planning and evaluation and different needs analysis procedures are examined. Different approaches to the planning of program objectives in language teaching are illustrated and a distinction between behavioral, process, content and proficiency-based objectives is made. The status of methodology within curriculum development is discussed in terms of a distinction between content oriented methods and those concerned primarily with instructional processes. The role of a syllabus within each approach is illustrated.

Abstract:
Even more than the discipine that was so famously labelled the 'handmaiden of colonialism' (Asad, 1973), Development Studies has been associated in critique with the perpetuation of colonial and neocolonial thinking and practice. What would it take to decolonise the teaching of Development Studies? Is it even possible? This article takes an experiential look at an experimental interactive workshop-style first year undergraduate introductory international development module. The module started off from the place I was at, as a professor who had newly come to higher education from a career on the margins of the development industry. I brought with me experience and knowledge, but also deep cyncism and negativity. I established the module as a mode of dialogue with my students, who wrote regular blogs instead of essays. Over the years, as I engaged with their work and worldview, my own shifted. I came to reframe development, and with this, to shift my own attempts to decolonise my teaching. I explore this journey, reflecting on where it took me and on some of the lessons I learnt from this experience.

Abstract:
Religion, spirituality and faith are themes gaining interest and prominence in the field of development studies. This “religious turn in development” (Pearson and Tomalin 2008, 49) has gone largely unnoticed by religious studies scholars. The range of current publications on the topic is not produced by self-identified religion scholars. I wish to give an overview of this nascent topic for study in order to suggest how the acumen of religious studies scholars might engage it. I will first make some remarks about the field of international development in order to locate challenges within the ‘religious turn’ within the current IDS discourse. I wish to conclude with some proposals for studying the religious dimensions of international development.
