Abstract:
Saltwater intrusion, a consequence of climate change and decreased water levels, has been increasingly severe in the Mekong Delta region. Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province, Vietnam, is a coastal region where agricultural production and local livelihood have been impaired by saltwater intrusion, resulting in the adoption of multiple coping strategies, including rotations and intercropping. This study aims to measure and evaluate soil and water quality indicators of multiple farming systems in Thanh Phu district and contributes to developing suitable cropping patterns. Soil indicators were pH, electrical conductivity, and exchangeable Na+. Water quality characteristics include pH, salinity, dissolved N and P, alkalinity, H2S, and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The results indicated that water pH and salinity were at suitable levels to support the growth of prawn but were below the critical level required to grow black tiger shrimp and white-legged shrimp. Water alkalinity, dissolved N, P, and COD were not constraining for the growth of shrimps. However, a significant concentration of H2S may cause disadvantages for shrimp growth.

Abstract:
Background Stigma affects persons living with HIV in myriad ways, including mental health, adherence to antiretroviral therapy, and retention in care, and may manifest at inter- and intra-personal levels. Youth are particularly vulnerable; those in vulnerable groups may experience multiple stigmas. In Vietnam, new HIV infections are rising among men in young age groups. To better understand the facets of stigma experienced by young men living with HIV in Vietnam, we conducted a qualitative study with youth and clinicians. Methods We conducted in-depth interviews with ten youth and two clinicians in Hanoi, querying experiences of inter- and intra-personal stigma, coping strategies, and disclosure. As a framework for further research, we developed a conceptual model based on our findings and the published evidence base which portrays interactions among HIV-related stigma, coping strategies, and ART adherence, care engagement, and health outcomes. Results Common themes that emerged from interviews with youth included extensive internalized/self-stigma and perceived stigma, yet limited experienced interpersonal stigma due to non-disclosure and avoidant coping strategies. Within different types of relationships or contexts, youth used different strategies. Non-disclosure with family, friends, and workplaces/school, and avoidance of romantic relationships and health care were common. Mental health and social support appeared to be mediating factors between coping strategies and health outcomes. Conclusions Validation of this model of mechanisms of the impact of stigma for youth will require further research with larger samples. In the meantime, public campaigns to increase public awareness related to HIV should be implemented in Vietnam. Critical support for youth and their mental health should involve approaches tailored to the individual, taking into account context and personal capacity, including adequate time to prepare psychologically for disclosure. Some strategies for safe and effective disclosure are suggested.

Abstract:
This study examined relationships between the social support factors such as peer relations (3 items), teacher influences (6 items), familial influences (5 items) and the negative coping strategies of students experiencing school violence including negative thought (5 items); negative emotion (7 items) and negative action (8 items).Participants were a sample of 482 students from four middle schools around Hanoi who had experienced at least 1 violence or more participating in the study. They are distributed relatively evenly by school and from grades 6 to 9. The major finding was social support factors (peer relationships, teacher-student relationship and school environment and family relationships) and negative coping strategies were negatively correlated (p<0.01). Students who had negative relationships with friends, teachers, and family members often showed negative coping strategies after experiencing school violence. The article proposes the solution of social work intervention in building a safe and friendly environment to minimize the negative coping strategies of students at schools.

This study examines the coping strategies adopted by 50 men and women with fertility problems. All those interviewed had sought medical help and many had become very knowledgeable about reproduction and infertility. These are strategies concerned largely with maximising external resources. Others were concerned with redefining the problem and managing the negative concepts of themselves and others to infertility. Seeking social support, building up positive self-concepts and finding other ways of having needs met were strategies employed less frequently and when used were less thoroughly explored. Some reasons for not developing these strategies are discussed.

Abstract:
Background: The diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer could result in psychological distress. Greater understanding of patients’ coping strategies, and influencing factors, can aid in developing appropriate psychosocial support. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of coping strategies and associated factors among cervical cancer patients. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 299 cervical cancer patients on follow-up treatment at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Data were collected through face-to-face interview to assess patients’ sociodemographic characteristics, self-efficacy, meaning in life, perceived social support, uncertainty, cognitive appraisal, and coping strategies. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis was conducted. Results: Findings reveal that women utilized both problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies. However, emotion-focused coping strategies were more frequently employed than problem-focused coping strategies by cervical cancer patients. Self-efficacy (ß=.27, p<.001), meaning in life-presence (ß= -.25, p=.015), perceived social support from friend (ß= .36, p<.001), and perceived social support from significant others (ß= -.27, p=.048) predicted emotion-focused coping strategies. Moreover, self-efficacy (ß=.25, p<.001), uncertainty (ß= -.13, p=.003), meaning in life-presence (ß= -.12, p=.003), meaning in life-search (ß= .12, p=.009), perceived social support from family (ß= .11, p=.021), and challenge appraisals (ß= .13, p=.010) were determinants of problem-focused coping strategies. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that women with cervical cancer adopt varied coping strategies to deal with their illness. Since coping strategies adopted are influenced by the extent of personal and environmental factors, there is a need to take these factors into account when developing tailored interventions to support patients’ coping strategies.

Abstract:
A nationwide survey of 162,738 firms in Vietnam asked firms to report the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health of the business, coping strategies used, and various firm and situational characteristics. More than 80% of firms reported negative impacts from the pandemic with fewer than 4% reporting positive effects; 63% of the firms adopted at least one coping strategy. The coping strategies were categorized into seven groups as follows: (1) Non-adoption, (2) promoting e-commerce, (3) transforming key products/services, (4) training employees to improve professional qualifications, (5) finding new markets for input materials, (6) finding markets for products outside of the traditional market, (7) producing new products/services according to market demand during the epidemic period, and (8) other strategies. A multinomial logit regression model showed statistically significant associations between a firm’s selected coping strategy and several independent variables, as follows: (1) Firm size, (2) impact of the pandemic on firm health, firm access to inputs, and firm access to domestic markets, (3) decrease in firm revenue, and (4) receipt of government support. However, many businesses have not implemented coping strategies, leading to concerns regarding their resilience to upcoming threats and uncertainties.

Abstract:
Purpose Female entrepreneurs often face significant conflicts in allocating time and resources to the various roles demanded of them by their communities. This has been identified as a potential obstacle to their performance as entrepreneurs. This paper aims to examine the question: How do women cope with role conflict? Design/methodology/approach The authors tackled the question by conducting a survey that involved 307 female business owners in Ethiopia. The survey result was supported by 20 in-depth interviews. Findings The commonest coping strategies identified were negotiation, committing to the entrepreneurial role, committing to social roles, pleasing all, seeking social support and hiring outside support. A multivariate analysis of variance revealed that these coping strategies differed across the various stages of business growth. Meanwhile, structural equation modeling established that female business owners with high levels of personal resources (such as optimism, self-efficacy and resilience) committed more to their entrepreneurial roles than to their social roles. Originality/value This research contributes knowledge on coping strategies among female entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa, where family structure and orientation, the economy and social development differ from those in developed countries. The research also integrates the lines of empirical research on coping strategies with the process-based view of entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
This study explores the association between the values of dominant religions in Vietnam and the communication about pain coping strategies employed by Vietnamese women who have cancer. Data was collected by means of in-depth interviews with twenty-six Vietnamese female cancer patients. Content analysis was then utilised to describe and interpret the women’s pain talks. Participants proposed six religion-related pain coping strategies, including accepting pain, bearing pain on one’s own, trying to change karma, being positive about pain, managing to forget pain and sharing pain when it becomes unbearable. The findings reflected that the religious values of Confucianism and Buddhism are associated with the patients’ communication about the strategies they employed to cope with their pain. Moreover, the language of communicating pain coping could be mapped onto the categories of passive language and active language, within the religion framework. The research has thus also confirmed the role of language in the communication about pain experience.

Abstract:
Twenty professional ballet dancers from Korea were interviewed to identify the stressors they experience and the coping strategies they use during practice and performance. Inductive content analysis of the data identified four major sources of stress: physical (i.e., physical appearance, poor physical condition), psychological (i.e., desire, slump, personality), interpersonal (i.e., relationship with a dance director, relationship with other dancers), and situational factors (i.e., performance demands, finances). The results demonstrated that, within physical factors, physical appearance (e.g., maintaining a particular body type, keeping low body weight) was a preeminent problem. We also found three general dimensions for coping: psychological strategies (i.e., individual cognitive and emotional strategies, avoidance strategies), behavioral strategies (i.e., dysfunctional behavior, hobby activities, social interaction, dance-related behavior), and physical relaxation. The coping strategies mentioned most frequently were in the behavioral strategies dimension. Identifying sources of stress and coping strategies in dance can provide a basis for intervention programs, which can help to reduce stress by developing effective coping skills.

Introduction. The stress coping strategies people rely on impact their psychological well-being and may be related to the risk of developing psychopathology in the short- and long-term after an unfortunate event. Objective. To define the main stress coping strategies in our region as a first step in assessing the risk of developing psychopathology derived from the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Method. This is an observational, cross-sectional, analytical study that includes 396 participants over 18 years of age residents of the state of Nuevo Leon. Using an online form, the participants were asked to complete the Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CAE). Results. In general, after two months of mitigation measures in Mexico, positive reappraisal was the stress coping strategy with the highest score in the population studied. We found higher scores on negative auto-focused and overt emotional expression on the comparation between sociodemographic subgroups. Discussion and conclusion. The present study shows that, in our community, positive reappraisal was the stress coping strategy with the highest score. Positive reappraisal is an active form of coping associated with greater psychological well-being and fewer risk of developing psychopathology in the short and long term. Based on this, our hypothesis is that the predominant use of this strategy could translate into a higher psychological well-being during and after the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in the studied sample.

How to overcome this trap is a longstanding problem for developing countries, and has been studied in various research fields. In this work, we use the Fitness-Complexity method (FCM) to analyze the common characteristics of the countries that successfully get through the middle-income trap, and show the origin of the middle-income trap based on the international trade network. In the analysis, a novel method is proposed to characterize the interdependency between products. The results show that some middle-complexity products depend much on each other, which indicates that developing countries should focus on them simultaneously, implying high difficulty to escape the middle-income trap. To tackle the middle-income trap, developing countries should learn experiences from developed countries that share similar development history. we then design an effective method to evaluate the similarity between countries and recommend developed countries to a certain developing country. The effectiveness of our method is validated in the international trade network.

Abstract:
Background:Studies have shown that the association of pain, stiffness, disability, and social restrictions in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients induce a significantly increased level of depressed mood and stress. The use of favorable coping strategies could lead to improve physical and psychological well-being.Objectives:To evaluate coping strategies of RA patients and their associations with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes. Methods:A cross-sectional sample of patients with established RA was evaluated using measures of coping: the Brief-COPE (scores presented for the two overarching coping styles: Approach coping including active coping, emotional support, use of informational support, positive reframing, planning and acceptance, and Avoidant coping including self-distraction, denial, substance use, behavioral disengagement, venting and self-blame), the HRQoL (Mental and Physical Components [MCS/PCS] of the Short Form 12), and the Rheumatoid Arthritis Impact of Disease score (RAID]. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations between coping strategies and HRQoL outcomes. Results:The study sample comprised 45 patients with a female predominance (91.9 %), and a mean age of 55.7± 9.9 years [38-77]. The median disease duration was 10 years [38-77]. The majority of patients (82.8 %) were positive for either rheumatoid factor or anti-CCP. Half of the patients were on biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. Two active coping strategies were identified: Approach coping (E = 4.29) and Avoidant Coping (E=3.86), which explained 40% of the total variance. Mean RAID was 4.8± 1.6, while the mean PCS and MCS were 31.9 ± 9.4 and 39.7 ± 9.4, respectively. Approach coping and avoidant coping were associated with PCS (r= 0.4, p = 0.03), (r=0.3, p=0.008) respectively. However, no association was found between coping strategies and MCS or RAID (p>0.05). In the multivariate model, approach coping and avoidant coping were significant to explain lower disease-specific HRQoL (PCS) (Beta= 0.4, p= 0.008), (Beta=0.3, p=0.02) respectively. Conclusion:Approach and avoidance are associated with lower disease-specific HRQoL (PCS) but not with lower disease-specific HRQoL (MCS). Doctors should not forget to help their patients developing adaptive coping strategies.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

Abstract:
Background: Medication adherence is difficult for most patients who take at least one medication. Poor drug adherence is a developing problem since it contributes to negative outcomes, prescription waste, increased healthcare expenses, and disease progression. Coping strategies are an important tool for managing a patient's condition because a patient's coping method influences how he or she perceives the situation and deals with the stress that comes with it, which can eventually affect adherence. Coping strategies are classified into five categories: problem-focused, emotion-focused, seeking understanding, support seeking, and problem avoidance. Objective: The goal of this study is to examine and illustrate the association of coping strategies on medication adherence. Method: A systematic review of PubMed/MEDLINE database was conducted in order to screen and select articles. A total of 15 studies were included where they were classified by endpoints. Endpoints that were considered are medication adherence, problem-solving/active coping strategy, emotion-focused coping strategy, seeking understanding coping strategy, support seeking coping strategy and problem avoidance coping strategy. The association of each coping strategy on medication adherence was then evaluated from each article assigned to every category of coping strategies to determine if it had a favorable, negative, or no impact on medication adherence. Results: Most studies which measured problem-solving/active coping strategy (78%) had a positive association on medication adherence, followed by studies which measured emotion-focused coping strategy (69%). Majority of the studies that evaluated for problem avoidance coping strategy (50%) showed a negative association on medication adherence and a small proportion of studies (30%) showed a positive association. Four(4) of the 5 coping strategies (problem-solving/active, emotion-focused, seeking understanding and support seeking) were found to have a greater number of studies showing positive association to medication adherence as opposed to problem avoidance. Conclusion: The findings may suggest that problem-solving and emotion-focused coping strategies can be useful to help people with chronic conditions improve their medication adherence. More study is needed to establish a link between coping strategies and medication adherence in patients, which will allow pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to deliver better interventions to patients and assess for medication nonadherence due to poor coping skills.

Abstract:
Aim. To study the coping behavior of persons in a pre-trial detention facility in order to identify groups at risk of psychological maladjustment. Methods. The survey method and the Heims methodology for diagnosing of the coping strategies were used. Results. It was found that non-adaptive and relatively adaptive behavioral and cognitive coping strategies prevail over adaptive ones in all the comparison groups. In all groups, the greatest number of maladaptive coping was found in the emotional sphere. The presence of adaptive cognitive coping is associated with a negative attitude to ones offense, maladaptability of behavioral coping is associated with aggression, and emotional coping is associated with the use of psychoactive substances. The adaptability of behavioral strategies is associated with the presence of experience of the institutional confinement. It is established that newly arrived prisoners are at risk of psychological maladjustment, and prisoners who are held in common prisons rooms have high indices of coping adaptability. Conclusions. The surveyed comparison groups differ in the targets of psychological correction. The risk groups for developing mental maladjustment are newly arrived prisoners.

Abstract:
Police officers are frequently exposed to highly stressful situations at work and have an increased risk to develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout (BO). It is currently not well understood which officers are most at risk to develop these disorders. The aim of this study was to determine which coping strategies and personality traits could act as protective or risk factors in relation to PTSD and BO. The second aim, in the interest of designating preventive and therapeutical measures, was to determine whether certain profiles of police officers could be identified as high risk for developing mental disorders. Herein, 1073 French-speaking police officers in Switzerland reported in an online survey about their PTSD and BO symptoms, anxiety, depression, suicide ideation, coping strategies, occupational stress, and personality factors. The cluster analysis highlighted three principal profiles of police officers: those who are not at risk of developing pathologies because they are not exposed or insensitive to these stressors, and those who are, among which personality and coping strategies oriented the risk of developing PTSD or BO. These same protective and risk factors were also corroborated in the linear and logistic regression analyses. These results may suggest that a crucial opportunity for mitigating mental health issues in the force could consist of screening recruits for risk-related personality traits and orienting them towards psychological training programs for the development of functional coping strategies.

Abstract:
Introduction. The use of adequate stress-coping strategies by the headmasters of general secondary education institutions involves the study of these institutions' organizational and psychological characteristics that affect headmasters' choice of stress-coping strategies. Methods. The following instruments were used to collect and analyze data «How is your organization developing?» (V. Siegert, L. Lang, modification by L. Karamushka), «A Method of research into coping behavior in stressful situations» (S. Norman, D. Endler, D. James, M. Parker; adaptation by T. Krukova), and a passport-questionnaire. Aim: to analyze the relationship between organizational and psychological characteristics of general secondary education institutions and headmasters' stress-coping strategies. Results. Statistically significant relationships, both positive and negative, have been found between the organizational and psychological characteristics of general secondary education institutions and their headmasters' stress-coping strategies. It was shown that the higher the level of organizational development of general secondary education institutions, the more frequently their headmasters used such a coping strategy as social support seeking, but as the number of headmasters in one institution increased, the frequency of use of this coping strategy decreased. It was also shown that as the administrative status of the town/city where the general secondary education institution was located increased, the frequency of headmasters' use of such coping strategies as avoidance and distraction increased, too. Conclusions. The findings can be helpful in managing general secondary education institutions, in particular, in headmasters' choosing adequate stress-coping strategies.

Abstract:
Aim: Gaming escapism is an essential factor for developing internet gaming disorder (IGD). We evaluated coping strategies, resilience, stress, and depression in individuals with IGD. Methods: We included 69 participants with IGD and 138 controls (69 regular gamers and other non-gamers) in Taiwan. The self-reported coping strategies, coping stress with gaming, resilience, perceived stress, and depression were assessed. Results: Participants with IGD had higher dysfunctional coping, coping stress by gaming, perceived stress, and depression, as well as lower problem-focused coping and resilience. Regression analysis revealed that coping by gaming was associated with dysfunctional coping mechanisms, particularly venting and self-distraction. Compared with participants with adequate resilience, those with lower resilience had higher perceived stress, depression, and coping by gaming, and lower problem-focused and emotion-focused coping. Dysfunctional coping and coping by gaming were associated with perceived stress and depression in both IGD and control groups. Problem-focused coping was negatively associated with perceived stress and depression in controls. Conclusion: Individuals with IGD had higher perceived stress and depression, as they were more likely to cope with stress by dysfunctional coping and gaming and less likely to try problem-focused coping, particularly those with lower resilience. Interventions for IGD should promote problem-focused coping, such as active coping and planning strategies, particularly among those with lower resilience.

Introduction. In extreme life events basic assumptions are frequently reassessed and changed. Therefore, trauma requires re-education. Effective coping strategies enable individual to tolerate, minimize, accept or ignore what one cannot manage and to moder?ate the consequences of stressful, traumatic events. Materials and Methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate coping strategies in refugees with post-traumatic stress disorder prior and after group cognitive-behavioural therapy. The sample included 70 refu?gees who experienced multiple stressors such as organized violence, ethnic conflicts, bombing, expelling from their homes and life in exile. Impact Event Scales-Revised, Ways of Coping-Revised, Scale of Cognitive Self-regulation and Scale of Coping Strategies were administered before and after six months of group cognitive-behavioural therapy. Results. Post-traumatic stress disorder in refugees after therapy significantly decreased. Cognitive self-regulation was improved by moving locus of control from external to internal resources. Coping was qualitatively different, with a wider repertoire of adaptive strategies. Discussion. Cognitive group work facilitates processes of grieving, working-through of traumatic material, increasing emotional awareness and developing creativity in coping. Conclusion. Our findings highlight the positive impact of cognitive-behavioural treatment on post-traumatic stress disorder and post-traumatic adjustment. .

Abstract:
The present study examined behavioral coping actions and coping strategies in relation to specific contextual factors (e.g., victim–stalker relationship, stalking violence, duration of stalking, and prior victimization) among Finnish university students. Participants completed a stalking survey, also including items concerning coping. Victims of violent stalking threatened the stalker with the use of certain legal actions significantly more compared with victims of nonviolent stalking, but no difference in the actual use of formal help was found. Instead victims of stalking tried to avoid the stalker or turned to friends and family for help. Victim–stalker relationship, stalker violence, and number of stalking episodes had a significant main effect on certain coping strategies (e.g., positive reappraisal, escape–avoidance, and problem-solving), while no interaction effect was found. The findings suggest that knowledge of victim-coping behavior and strategies is crucial for health care and law enforcement professionals when devising appropriate support for victims and developing multidisciplinary approaches.

Abstract:
The novel corona virus pandemic culminated in a global emergency shutting down educational institutions with recommendations of distant learning. Developing countries like Pakistan faced challenges in terms of keeping the education stream running. The current narrative review was planned to discuss the teaching strategies adopted by various institutes for coping with the situation created by the coronavirus disease-2019. Literature search was done using search engines and databases with key words ‘Academics’, ‘Coping strategies’, ‘Covid-19’, ‘Online learning’, ‘Rehabilitation curriculum’ and their combinations. As a result, 37 articles were analysed for education involving conformation of curricula to social distancing protocol, and use of video-conferencing software, practical rehabilitation curriculum delivery, and evaluation methods. Developing countries, like Pakistan, should upgrade and revise their rehabilitation curriculum at theoretical and practical levels and try to convert the adversity of the pandemic into an opportunity to develop standardised e-learning programmes and software compatible.

Abstract:
Multigrade classes in the Philippines are usually present in Elementary schools in remote areas where few students are in one-year level. Thus, teachers then handle multiple grade levels at a time. This study investigated the challenges and Coping strategies of Multigrade teachers in the western part of the Philippines. The researchers employed a Transcendental phenomenological method in this study. They gathered the data through one-to-one interviews of multigrade teachers who have been teaching for at least three years. Following the data analysis of Kleiman (2004), the results revealed that there were intrinsic, extrinsic, and system challenges experienced by these teachers. These challenges involved unpreparedness in teaching multigrade, low multigrade allowances, the experience of stress, language barrier, classroom management struggles, lack of resources, danger in going to stations, workload, absenteeism, lack of stakeholders’ support, and lack of trainings. However, they showed positivity in their work and applied the right coping strategies to lessen their burden. Among these coping strategies were praying, using the web, having time management, self-conditioning, developing plans, and doing research. The participants believed that handling Multigrade classes requires time, effort, and balance. Through these experiences, teachers learned to adjust and cope with the challenges they were facing. Thus, they became better educators.

Abstract:
River sand mining has been a concerning problem for the southern Asian developing nations. The rampant growth of urbanisation in developing countries has led to an extensive need for and consumption of sand. The Mekong River and its delta are an essential part of southern Vietnam, and also a global biodiversity hub that is currently being exhausted by intensive sand mining. The understanding of the cause–effect of the sand mining over the Mekong delta region and river, from a systems-thinking perspective, is lacking, not only with Vietnam but also with other countries along the Mekong River. The DPSIR framework (Driver–Pressure–State–Impact–Response) is a useful tool to assess and describe the cause–effect within an ecosystem to aid in a better systems-thinking approach for stakeholders, policy makers, and governance managers to draft response measures. This study used the DPSIR framework to assess the different effects of sand mining on the ecosystem services and human well-being in the Mekong River and delta region of Vietnam. Rapid population growth, urbanisation, and infrastructure development needs remain as primary drivers for the sand consumption. The DPSIR study showed a holistic view of several interlinked pressures and state changes in Vietnam’s Mekong, along with some potential responses, to form systematic, sustainable approaches for mitigating and adapting the impacts caused by extensive river sand mining.

Abstract:
Despite four decades of resilience research, resilience remains a poor fit for practice as a scientific construct. Using the literature, we explored the concepts attributed to the development of resilience, identifying those that mitigate symptoms of distress caused by adversity and facilitate coping in seven classes of illness: transplants, cancer, mental illness, episodic illness, chronic and painful illness, unexpected events, and illness within a dyadic relationship. We identified protective, compensatory, and challenge-related coping-concept strategies that healthcare workers and patients use during the adversity experience. Healthcare-worker assessment and selection of appropriate coping concepts enable the individual to control their distress, resulting in attainment of equanimity and the state of resilience, permitting the resilient individual to work toward recovery, recalibration, and readjustment. We inductively developed and linked these conceptual components into a dynamic framework, The Resilience Framework for Nursing and Healthcare, making it widely applicable for healthcare across a variety of patients.

Digitalized independent workers, known as gig workers, have been shown to work under high-pressure, with a lack of autonomy, a lack of feedback and perceived competence, and a high level of isolation. We conducted a literature review to investigate how gig workers cope with these sources of stress. We identified primary sources of psychological stress in gig work and the main strategies used by workers for coping with them. We show that focusing solely on identifying coping strategies depicts a fragmented literature, making it impossible to compare, link, or aggregate findings. We suggest a radar classification of coping based on the motivational action theory of coping and self-determination theory that defines coping as a process to adapt to the environment and maintain well-being. We argue that this framework is both relevant and necessary for developing research on gig-worker coping.

Abstract:
Patients with severe COVID-19 experience high-stress levels and thus are at risk for developing acute stress disorder (ASD) and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The present study aims to search for correlations between psychiatric response to stress and coping strategies among individuals with acute vs. remitted COVID-19. Ninety subjects with COVID-19 were included in the study, divided into two samples by disease category. Our focus was analysing the perceived stress intensity according to NSESSS and PCL-C-17 scales, and coping strategies with COPE-60. High NSESSS scores were found in 40% of acute patients, and 15.6% of remitted patients had high PCL-C-17 scores fulfilling the criteria for PTSD. We found a negative correlation between stress level and disease category. Acute patients used significantly more engagement and emotion-focused coping methods, but less disengagement types of coping than patients in the remitted phase. Remitted patients under high stress levels are prone to use disengagement and emotion-focused coping strategies. In conclusion, remitted COVID-19 patients experience lower levels of stress and use less emotion-focused strategies, except among those who developed PTSD post-COVID-19 infection, presenting with high-stress levels and using more disengagement and emotion-focused types of coping strategies.

By using a cross-sectional study, this study aimed to determine the ratio of occupational stress, stress levels and the relationship between stress status and social characteristics of the sample, factors at work, as well as howsecondary school teachers respond to stress in Tra Cu District, Tra Vinh Province. The study conducted a survey to investigate 466 teachers currently teaching at 14 secondary schools in Tra Cu District, Tra Vinh Province, from May 2020 to June 2020. Research results showed that the percentage of teachers who suffered mild stressand severe stress was 18.9% and 8.1%, respectively. The signs of stress in teachers correlated with several factors such as job demand, work control and ways of coping at work. When the average score of the assessment “job demand” or “work control” increased by one point, the rate of stress on teachers was reduced by 23% (95% CI: 0.73 – 0.81) and 12% (95% CI: 0.84 – 0.93) respectively. By contrast, the average score of “confrontation” increased by one point leading to 3.21 times higher (95% CI: 2.61 – 3.96) possibility of causing stress. As well as the average score of "avoidance" increased by one point, the possibility of causing stress in teachers increased 3.03 times (95% CI: 2.45 – 3.74). Abstract:
Abstract As cognitive impairment progresses, Persons with Mild Cognitive Impairment or Mild Dementia (PwMCI or MD) have trouble in adapting to changes in their cognitive functioning and, as a result, develop challenges in daily activities. If these challenges are not appropriately addressed, PwMCI or MD can experience poor health outcomes and quality of life. Coping, behavioral and cognitive efforts to regulate the distress from a certain stressful situation, is widely regarded as a fundamental determinant of health outcomes. We conducted a scoping review to understand what coping strategies PwMCI or MD used, and facilitators and barriers of the use of these coping strategies. Using the PRISMA-ScR guideline, we reviewed peer-reviewed empirical studies exploring coping experiences for cognitive impairment among community-dwelling PwMCI or MD. We used thematic synthesis to generate themes relevant to the coping strategies and the facilitators and barriers. Of 1267 studies identified, 12 qualitative studies were reviewed. Under three dimensions of coping strategy (i.e., problem-solving, emotional, and maladaptive coping strategies), six themes were identified: independent coping (e.g., use of reminder and practice of cognitive activities), collaborative/dependent coping (e.g., asking help as needed), reframing, expression of unpleasant feelings, comparing self to others, and avoidance. The themes for facilitators and barriers were social response to one’s cognitive impairment, assistance from informal care partners, and support from professionals. These findings can provide not only a better understanding of how people cope with their cognitive impairment but can also provide rationale for developing interventions to maximize the use of coping strategies.

Abstract:
The work environment of emergency workers is an important factor related to stress. Coping with the COVID-19 emergency is a factor that is highly related to stress, and severe stress is a risk factor for developing secondary trauma. Coping and resilience can help rescue workers to better respond in emergency situations and could protect them from secondary trauma. We aimed to explore the relationship of emergency stress, hardiness, coping strategies, and secondary trauma among emergency workers and the mediating roles of coping strategies and hardiness on the effect of stress in producing secondary trauma. The study involved 513 emergency workers from the Red Cross Committee in Veneto, one of the Italian regions most affected by the COVID-19. Participants completed questionnaires online to measure emergency stress (physical, emotional, cognitive, organizational‒relational, COVID-19, and inefficacy decisional), hardiness, coping strategies, and secondary trauma. Other variables analyzed were age, gender, weekly hours of service, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). We performed t-tests, a correlational analysis, regressions, and a mediation analysis. Hardiness and coping strategies, in particular, which stop unpleasant emotions and thoughts and problem-focused, emerged as mediators in reducing the predicted effect of stress on secondary trauma. The mediating effects of hardiness and coping strategies were found to reduce the effect of stress on arousal by 15% and the effect on avoidance by 25%.

Abstract:
Objectives: This study was aim to describe the relationship between psychological distress and coping strategies among patients with advanced or terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma.Material and Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data were collect from hospitalized sample at medical units in a tertiary care hospital in southern Thailand during April 2015 - December 2016. Ninety-six sample of advanced or terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma. Research instruments consisted of 4 parts: (1) a demographic data form, (2) The Karnofsky Performance Status Scale, (3) psychological distress questionnaires using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and (4) coping strategies questionnaire developed by researchers based on Lazarus and Folkman’s stress and coping theory and literature reviews. Cronbach’s alphas for Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and coping strategies questionnaire were 0.89 and 0.84. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient was used. Results: A relationship analysis found that there was a moderate, negative correlation between psychological distress and coping strategies (r=-0.66, p-value<0.001)Conclusion: The results of this study reveal that increases in psychological distress were correlated with decreases in coping strategies among patients with advanced or terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma. A screening assessment for psychological distress is needed. The results of this study can be used for developing nursing program to promote effective coping strategies among patients with advanced or terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma to help them live well at the end of life.
