Full textUnveiling the nature of dark matter is one of the greatest challenges of modern physics, at the interface between astrophysics, cosmology and particle physics. In this thesis, I tackle various aspects of indirect searches for dark matter particles, which provide a complementary approach to direct detection or collider experiments. We are now entering into an era of instruments with outstanding capabilities, so it was timely to tackle the problem of the dark matter density profile at the centers of galaxies with novel methods, which motivated this thesis. Taking advantage of these technological advances, I investigate new ways of probing the very central part of dark matter halos, especially focusing on dark matter spikes, i.e. very strong enhancements of the dark matter density that can form around supermassive black holes. I show that we can go beyond standard dark matter searches by studying photon emission from electrons and positrons produced in dark matter annihilation processes. In this context, I describe a new cosmic-ray propagation technique to account for injection by spiky distributions at the centers of galaxies. I develop novel models of the diffuse emission in the central regions of galaxies, focusing not only on the center of the Milky Way, but on the central regions of other galaxies as well. This allows me to explain recently reported observations and make predictions for future observations

Full textPre-processing vibration signals in harsh conditions such as the aeronautic conditions seems a complicated task. The operating conditions are nonstationary and the motor exhibits at least two harmonic non-linear families related to low and high pressure shaft. Furthermore, the design constraints impose a reduced number of accelerometers (generally two) which is unfortunately insufficient to detect all the shaft related phenomena. The acoustic signals are not subjected to the latter constraint. However, they are very noisy in comparison to vibration signals and may not detect low energy problems and very low frequency phenomena. Besides, the obtained signals depend strongly on the microphone position and its directivity in addition to the problem of clipping with medium to high acoustic pressure values. Thus, the PhD objective is to propose methods robust to mainly (i) the interference between different linear and non-linearly related phenomena, (ii) the nonstationary operating conditions and (iii) the broadband noise phenomena. These scientific difficulties are considered through (1) a blind detection of spectral peaks, (2) the estimation of the instantaneous speed and (3) the estimation of the deterministic/tonal component

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to propose several models representing neuronal calcic activity and unsderstand its applicatition in the secretion of GnRH hormone. This work relies on experience realised in INRA Centre Val de Loire. Chapter 1 proposes a continuous model, in which we examine a Markov process of shot-noise type. Chapter 2 studies a discrete model type AR(1), based on a discretization of the model from Chapter 1 and proposes a first estimation of the parameters. Chapter 3 proposes another dicrete model, type AR(1), in which the innovations are the sum of a Bernouilli variable and a Gaussian variable representing a noise, and taking into account a linear drift . Estimations of the parameters are given in order to detect spikes in neuronal paths. Chapter 4 studies a biological experience involving 33 neurons. With the modelisation of Chapter 3, we detect synchronization instants (simultaneous spkike of a high proportion of neurons of the experience) and then, using simulations, we test the quality of the method that we used and we compare it to an experimental approach

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to study the problem of iterative data detection in an ultra wideband (UWB) OFDM system, where the receiver disposes only of an imperfect (and possibly poor) estimate of the unknown channel parameters. First, we propose an efficient receiver jointly estimating the channel and the transmitted symbols in an iterative manner. This receiver is based on a wavelet representation of the unknown channel and exploits the sparseness property of UWB channels in the wavelet domain to reduce the receiver’s computational complexity. Second, we rely on the statistics characterizing the quality of the channel estimation as a mean to integrate the imperfect channel knowledge into the design of iterative receivers. In this way, we formulate an improved maximum likelihood (ML) detection metric taking into account the presence of channel estimation errors. A modified iterative MAP detector is derived by an appropriate use of this metric. The results are compared to those obtained by using the classical mismatched ML detector, which uses the channel estimate as if it was the perfect channel. Furthermore, we calculate the achieved throughputs associated to both improved and mismatched ML detectors, in terms of achievable outage rates. Finally, we propose an improved low-complexity iterative detector based on soft parallel interference cancellation and linear MMSE filtering where we takes into account the presence of channel estimation errors in the formulation of the detector. The important point is that the performance improvements reported in this thesis are obtained while imposing practically no additional complexity to the receiver
Wu, Fangmei. "Study and Reduction of Power Consumption during Test of Digital Circuits." Thesis, Montpellier 2, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011MON20072/document.
Full textThis thesis relates to study and reduction of power consumption during at-speed scan delay testing for digital circuits. To detect transition delay faults, two main testing schemes are used in practice: Launch-Off-Shift (LOS) and Launch-Off-Capture (LOC). In this work, we prove that LOS testing is more efficient than LOC testing in terms of transition fault coverage (TFC) and test length. However, LOS presents higher power during the launch-to-capture (LTC) cycle, especially in terms of peak power. For this purpose, we propose a novel power-aware test pattern generation technique for LOS testing. The proposed approach is able to reduce and map the test peak power as close as possible to the functional power. The important feature of this framework is that, in additional to solving the yield loss problem, it also avoids test escape that may occur when test power is too much reduced compared to functional power

Full textDark matter makes up 85% of the matter content of the universe and we still don’t know what it is made of. The Picasso experiment, now named PICO, has been searching for it for several years with the use of superheated liquid detectors. Following the interaction of a particle with a superheated liquid freon of the CXFY family, a bubble is formed through a phase change and is detected with several types of sensors, telling us about the nature of the event. Located at SNOLab, in Ontario, these detectors produce some of the best results in the field. The present work will go through three types of superheated liquid detectors. A full description of the working principles will be presented for each of them. In addition, the fabrication, the operation mode and the data analysis will be shown. Detector calibration techniques will then be presented with different particle sources. Finally, the most recent results will be discussed, demonstrating the performance of the superheated liquid detector technique.
