Abstract:
Although the theme of push and pull motivations has received increasing attention in tourist behavior literature, little attention has been devoted to the investigation of the interaction between single push motivations and visitor loyalty and other relevant variables influencing tourist behavior. Given its undoubtable relevance in motivating human behavior, we propose curiosity as a single push motive by examining its causal relationships with destination attributes (evaluated in holistic way), attitude toward destination, and loyalty. In particular, we tested a new research model on a sample of 273 potential Brazilian travelers to Europe by using a structural equation modeling approach. Sample size is in line with the state-of-the-art in literature (Ciasullo et al., 2017). The data moderately well fitted the “curiosity model” and the findings highlighted that curiosity plays a crucial role in shaping attitude and pull motivation, and in influencing tourist loyalty. Consequently, destination managers or European Union institutions should magnify the role of curiosity, attitude towards destination, and pull motivations in terms of marketing policies.

Abstract:
In recent times, it has been noticed that cultural tourism attracts millions of people. One interesting aspect is the analysis of WHS (World Heritage Site) destinations or cultural destinations that have an inscription WHS. This research has the goal of analysing the different groups of tourists who visit a cultural destination with an inscription WHS, specifically the city of Granada (Spain). For this, segmentation was performed, studying the socio-demographic profile of the tourists and their assessment of the attributes of this destination. For the tourist segmentation, two models have been followed. Four different groups of tourists were found: alternative, cultural, emotional and heritage. In this last one, the relationship between curiosity about the culture of the tourist destination and the heritage visited has a determining role. This study makes an important contribution to the literature regarding the links between the tourist and the historic and monumental heritage they visit and their tourist behaviour.

Abstract:
Abstract Tourist destinations are based on new technologies to facilitate access of visitors to tourist attractions. The mobility of the tourists together with the access infrastructure to the tourist objectives is important in the coordination of the tourist flows. More and more self-organized tours will overshadow the travel agencies tours in the demand and preferences of tourists. As technology advances, the curiosity and need of tourists to experience something new develop. The stringent health security requirements in the ‘new normal’ social life during and post-pandemic times enforce radical changes of tourism, among which virtual tourism gains solid grounds. Virtual tours accessed via smartphones have largely replaced the classical guided tours, lately. Our research is aimed at finding new ways to help Bucharest turn into a smart tourism destination. Bucharest is a European capital that needs modernization, innovation, digitalization and greater exposure and promotion internationally. The paper discusses the new trends of smart tourist destinations, the ways and means by which a destination may become smart and attractive for tourists and proposes a virtual signposting for visiting tourist attractions in Bucharest. Through our research we contribute to the intelligent tourism development in Bucharest and we offer ideas for future smart tourism projects.

Abstract:
While there is extensive literature on the evolution of tourism and the urbanization process, the interlinks between these two evolutions are not yet fully explored; maybe because they are separate disciplines, or taught independently of each other. This research navigates the spatial dimension of travel evolution alongside the attendant expansion of the urbanization process. It defines the nexus between tourism as a global demand and the physical infrastructure that accommodates such a force. The built environment, manifested in both its urban forms and its systems of mobility, is shaped by, and has been shaping, many factors including tourism. Using comparative narratives that describes tourist curiosity, the tourism routs and the tourism destinations across time, this work further explores the historical relationship between urbanization and tourism by emphasizing how the evolution of each has influenced the other. Itanalyzes different eras and identifies how the tourist, the travel mode and the destination have influenced each other through time. Considered one of the world's oldest tourist destinations, Egypt is used here to demonstrate the interlocking relationship of tourism and urbanization. The research concludes that appreciating these two phenomena in isolation proves challenging insofar as the evolution of tourism through time can not only be attributed to the tourism demand but also to the shape and form of the destination and the mobile systems available in each era and locale.

Abstract:
Dusun Semilir is one of the largest tourist destinations in Central Java-Indonesia due to its attractive building design that increases the curiosity of tourists. However, there are several implementations of tourist attraction design, accessibility, and supporting facilities that do not consider the humanist aspects such as non-sloping paths, too high stairs, which hindered those with limitations including the elderly and disabled, from accessing and enjoying the atmosphere. This indicated that the universal design approach is less than optimal. Therefore, this study aims to maintain tourist comfort by providing a universal design perspective for a tourist destination. Qualitative methods were used to explore universal design-related phenomena and problems in order to implement the design concepts that are accessible to everyone. Furthermore, observations and interviews with purposive sampling techniques were used as the instruments while descriptive analysis techniques were conducted to determine the comfort of tourists based on the universal design aspect. The output of this study is the importance of using universal design to create accessible tourism.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to clarify the relationships between virtual destination environment factors and visitors’ satisfaction and loyalty. Virtual destination environment factors are based upon Kaplan and Kaplan’s preference matrix. Kaplan and Kaplan (1982) developed a preference matrix to describe how people use information to satisfy their needs of making sense and exploration in a physical environment. According to the model, while coherence and legibility help one to understand the place, variety and mystery landscape encourage exploration. Each of the factors can be associated with elements of the virtual destination environment. Design/methodology/approach – The data were collected from 170 users who visited My Destination Barcelona Facebook page. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, as well as structural equation modelling (SEM) were used to analyze the data. Findings – The study explored the relationships between virtual destination environment, satisfaction and loyalty based on the Kaplan and Kaplan’s preference matrix. According to the findings, when the virtual destination environment includes a variety of visuals and enough information related to the destination, and at the same time, when it includes environmental factors which stimulate curiosity, excitement and entertainment, the virtual destination environment will provide visitors’ satisfaction and loyalty. Research limitations/implications – Several limitations of the present study should be mentioned. First, data from this study were collected from visitors of only one destination Facebook page (My Destination Barcelona) as a virtual destination environment. Second, although the sample size (N = 170) in the study seems enough for SEM, it is quite low. In addition, the use of a convenience sampling approach could decrease external validity. Thus, future studies should consider developing a systematic design to better represent the population. Originality/value – This paper examines how online visitors perceive virtual destination environment and how perception directly influences visitors’ satisfaction feelings and indirectly affects their loyalty.

Abstract:
Positive creativity involves creative ideas and products that are beneficial to humanity. This paper discusses the importance of fostering positive and transformational creativity in PK-12 and college settings, and concrete classroom strategies for nurturing positive creativity through a service learning pedagogy. A brief history of service learning pedagogy is discussed, along with a practical application of the K-12 Developmental Service Learning Typology, a theoretical service learning pedagogical model. This practical application highlights three examples of how service learning can foster positive and transformational creativity: experiential learning through community service or volunteering, problem-based learning through community exploration, and using Destination Imagination as a form of social or community activism. The latter two examples demonstrate using curiosity to create positive, novel, and useful products through a cycle of deep exploration of topics that each student has an intense interest in, called the Roberts Curiosity Community Exploration Cycle (R-CCEC).

Abstract:
In advertising tourism discourse both verbal and iconic elements are combined in a network of interrelations to meet the tourists’ expectations. The main functions of advertising tourism discourse are to arouse curiosity, to form positive pictures and values in tourists’ mind and to lead tourists to self-convincing in the necessity to visit the advertised destination. Each discourse has own “time” and “space” markers. Our research focuses on the analysis of the time markers in advertising tourism discourse. Time markers in discourse influence the formation of positively marked affective image of tourism destination image in the potential tourist’s mind. Chronotope of advertising tourism discourse expressed in time and space markers allows to define the discourse as “dialogue” in time and space loop. Advertising tourism discourse is a symbiosis of persuasive and emotional components that allows considering it as communication with the implementation of influential methods and means to induce the recipients and stimulate them to the addresser- favorable actions. Time markers attract recipient’s attention and highlight the necessity of the advertised product (tourism destination). We defined main time markers in English advertising tourism discourse. Addresser manipulates time markers in advertising tourism discourse, stresses on positive side of time spending and gives recipient the feeling of the absolute power over time.

Abstract:
The oft despised and ignored genre of travel writing was recognized as worthy of scholarly investigation in 1970s thanks to Edward Said’s Orientalism, the wave of deconstructionism, and postcolonialism (Calzati, 2015). For these scholars, travel writers do not present a transparent window to an alien space and its residents even though they normally claim it. For them the representation of the traveled terrain and travelees is an ideological construction which is tainted with the travel writer’s ‘habitus’ and ‘field’ and crafted through fictional devices. In this regard, by drawing on postcolonial methodology, the current study seeks to evince how Frembgen in his travelogue, The Closed Valley: With Fierce Friends in Pakistani Himalayas which narrates his voyage to Harban, a far-flung mountainous region in Pakistan Himalaya, reproduces the pitfalls of previous Western travel writers when he depicts his destination and travelees in negative terms. From his perspective, his timeless traveled locus is rife with violence, yet a space to escape from dehumanizing ambience of the West. Additionally, for him the women in this tribal region are tyrannized by husbands and victimized by Muslim extremists. Last but not least, he portrays this remote oriental space as an object of curiosity which needs to be salvaged textually. Keywords: Travel Writing, Timeless, Escape, Women, Violence, Curiosity

With the motivation, an efficient smart curiosity sink node prediction mining algorithm has been presented in this paper. First, both the source and destination nodes maintain information about the routes and network conditions. Based on that a single efficient path has been selected for data transmission. On the other side, the receiver verifies the path being followed, the route available and their conditions. Using this information the delay approximation is performed to decide the legitimate of the path being selected and the traffic incur in the way. The proposed method identifies several network threats and detects the presence of the node in the route. Abstract:
Tourism is one of the government’s ways of promoting the country’s identity and improving its economic growth. For tourists, it is to find not only reliable information but also promotion and the existence of the website is effective to persuade the potential tourists. The presence of nature’s beauty is an overwhelming source of curiosity for visitors. The popularity of Indonesian tourism has motivated scholars to research tourism discourse strategies, yet the study on how nature was represented on the tourism website is still scarce. By applying Critical Discourse Analysis, this paper attempts at (re)evaluating language attitudes of the ecolexicon on the Indonesian tourism website. The research problems are formulated to answer (1) what domains of the environment are presented on the website, (2) how the ecolexicon found is evaluated, and (3) how the environment should be described on the website. The data were taken from 16 destination texts accessed from www.indonesia.travel. This research found that the physical environment comprising various domains dominated the website in the form of appreciation. The domination of valuation on the website revealed that Indonesian nature was promoted in terms of its value. It persuaded potential tourists to adore the beauty of the Indonesian physical environment. The website was re-evaluated to promote not only the physical environment but also social and economic environments in the form of judgment. The absence of judgment needs to be considered by the government considering that tourism should be a good chance to teach people how to respect nature despite people’s excitement when visiting the tourism destinations.

Abstract:
When considering luxury as a state of great comfort founded on excess, has the time come to shift our interpretation, taking into consideration contemporary notions of luxury and our concerns for the preservation of our natural resources? Has luxury become a catch-all phrase whose meaning is no longer relevant? Taking into account the historical journey that brought us to this point in time and space, what could luxury become that enables a new voyage of discovery, one where the destination is unknown, undefined and constantly changing to reflect the state of space we now occupy? Our technological dependence and diminishing capacity for attention is making it easy for old luxury to grow and prosper. And our compliance no longer questions as luxury becomes available at the click of a button. But if we take the route of great comfort and rethink the excess, can luxury instil a sense of wellbeing, of intellectual curiosity, something that’s not solely tied to the product manifestation or experience, but one that nurtures both a philosophical and psychological insight than transcends any trophy?

For the sake of tourism recovery during the post-pandemic period, a storynomic promotion strategy is currently being developed by Indonesian government, and is considered effective in triggering the curiosity and visiting interest of tourists. This study aims to identify the role of storynomics as a moderating variable in strengthening motivation and interest to visit the Tebing Tegallinggah Temple site in Bedulu village, Gianyar, Bali. First, storytelling stories were collected through field research by interviewing selected informants, as well as randomly distributing questionnaires. Second, historical data and documentation were classified and analyzed qualitatively, while respondents' answers were assessed using Smart PLS. Third, the results of data analysis are presented through narrative descriptions supported by tables and figures for visualization. The results showed that motivation and storynomic had a less significant effect on the visiting interest of the respondents, most of whom were young. This research is expected to speed up the tourism recovery as well as to contribute to the sustainability of archaeological heritage as special interest tourist destination in Gianyar regency in particular and Indonesia in general.

Abstract:
Abstract F.W.J. Schelling argues in his middle period work Philosophical Inquiries into the Nature of Human Freedom that will should be understood as the most fundamental constitutive element of reality. Though it is often downplayed in recent scholarship, Schelling derived his most central ideas for this work more or less directly from the theosophy of Jacob Boehme. I will argue that far from peripheral and antiquated curiosity, Schelling´s esoteric influences constitute the very foundation of his middle period thought. Schelling´s affinity to esotericism enabled him to develop a form of pantheism, which is not tied to the familiar problematic aspects of traditional Christian and post-Christian narratives. In mainstream Christianity, the meaning of life is dependent on the almighty God´s will, for which nature is inherently meaningless material. For Schelling, by contrast, nature itself is constitutively willing and meaningful. Consequently, owing to his esoteric influences, Schelling provides an account of the meaning of life which diverges from the dominant idea of Western philosophical and theological tradition that the meaning of life consists in a ”true world” or ”destination” beyond immanent reality.

Abstract:

Tourism means the act and process of spending time away from home in pursuit of recreation, relaxation, and pleasure while making use of the commercial provision. There are many forms of tourism based on the purpose of visit. in that paper; we discussed dark tourism development and sites in India. Dark tourism (black tourism, morbid tourism)has been defined as tourism involving travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy, planning a project on dark tourism documenting the increasing popularity of morbid landmarks around the world. The main attraction to dark locations is their historical value rather than associations with death and suffering. Holocaust tourism contains aspects of both dark and heritage tourism .dark tourism is a sheer curiosity that pushes people to thread the road less traveled to search their answers, so travel by far has always been related to journey and to explore beautiful places. Abstract:
“Man’s curiosity for things and enquiry for food and shelter from one place to another gave birth to travel and travel led to tourism.”[i] From time immemorial man’s thirst for journeying is unquenchable, which has resulted in the spread of Human civilisation to all parts of the globe. Travels in the more advanced stages of our civilisation was done with an intent on Exploration, Diplomacy, Commerce, Knowledge etc. With Trade and Commerce being the main motivation behind travel rather than for pleasure in the early ages, the travellers were mostly consisting of Merchants, Pilgrims or Scholars. Conscious travels were undertaken to explore and see the world as it had progressed. And a new phenomenon of travelling in pursuit of leisure came to being and in course of time the concept of tourism got new meaning and acquired importance, as travelling exclusively for pleasure constitutes the main theme of tourism in these days. 106-113 Reimagining the Growth and Development of Tourism in Travancore with Special Emphasis on Kanya kumari SAFEED R Abstract One of the wealthiest and most developed state in the British India was Travancore, which was situated on the south of the Indian Subcontinent. The princely state was blessed with nature and the geographical features are entirely distinct from other places in India. The modern industry like tourism got spatial attention from the government from the beginning of the twentieth century and it accepted several plans for attracting visitors to its tourist spots. A few tourist destinations, which were in pathetic condition were elevated to high standard and world class facilities were arranged to meet the demands of the travelers. Kanyakumari, the land of rising sun was situated on the south of Travancore got special consideration and government made necessary arrangements for the growth and development of Kanyakumari as a tourist destination. 114-

Abstract:
The paper studies the potential impact on business travel of the new high-speed railway line project, called AlpTransit, which will link Lugano, the small economic hub of the southern part of Switzerland, with Zurich, one of the major Swiss economic centres, situated north of the Alps. Thanks to this infrastructure, travel time between the two cities will decrease considerably from about three hours to less than two hours by the end of 2020. The question that we pose in this paper is what impact high-speed trains could have, in the short to medium term, on business travel between the two hubs (ex-ante evaluation). Indeed, given the travel time, firms could increase their business-to-business one-day trips, boosting face-to-face interactions within and among enterprises. Our curiosity more specifically regards the potential impact of the change in travel time on the propensity to travel of employees with different functions in various types of firms. An on-line survey was conducted among firms located in Ticino, the Swiss Canton that includes Lugano. The data are analysed using four ordered logit models, one for each employee category (CEO, administrative staff, sales personnel, specialists), since hierarchical position and professional status influence business travel characteristics. Results show that internal firm characteristics, such as sector, frequency and destination of current business travels significantly influence the propensity to travel to Zurich more often thanks to AlpTransit.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to test Kim et al.’s (2012) seven-dimension memorable tourism experience (MTE) scale in a new context and with a new sample. In addition, the study aims to test for causes or relationships between satisfaction, MTE dimensions, co-creative tourism experiences and memorability, as well as the mediating effect of memorability on tourists’ behavioural intention. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a cross-sectional survey design using a questionnaire to collect data. Three trained interviewers questioned international travellers in the boarding area in Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport while they were waiting to board their flights home. The interviewers also distributed and administered the questionnaires. The questionnaire was in English. Data collection was carried out from August to October 2017. Findings In terms of the theoretical implications of this study, its findings result in a different MTE construct than that of Kim et al.’s (2012) study. Although they discuss seven important experiential tourism factors that are likely to affect the memorability of a person’s experience, what emerges from the present research is that satisfaction, novelty, refreshment, involvement and knowledge significantly influence the memorability of a tourist’s experience. Research limitations/implications This study has some limitations. First, it is highly site-specific and based on a convenience sample, rendering the findings non-generalizable to either the destination under investigation or any other tourism destination. Further studies should be conducted in other Mediterranean cities to generalise the significance of these findings. Although English can be considered the primary international language, the fact that the survey has been written only in English could have excluded non-English speakers from participating in the study. In addition, the study has not considered national domestic tourists. In the future, translating the survey into different languages and interviewing domestic tourists visiting the island might be useful. Practical implications Tourism service providers could gather feedback forms from tourists to measure and improve their satisfaction. Additionally, the multiplicity of actors involved in the tourism sector should coordinate and cooperate with one another to create tourism experiences that result in high overall visitor satisfaction. Tourism service providers could also offer new and diverse encounters, for example, the chance to attend local festivals to arouse curiosity, as studies suggest that such novel activities make the experiences particularly memorable. Public officials should also focus on site rejuvenation to appeal to novelty seekers who have visited previously. Originality/value Overall, the study highlights the discrepancies in the effects of satisfaction, MTE dimensions and co-creative tourism experience on the memorability of a trip experience in relation to previous studies. The results of the analysis refute the assumption that the seven MTE dimensions are representative across a variety of destination-specific tourist experiences. Besides the identified five dimensions, opening up the discussion on other factors that might influence the memorability of tourists’ experiences presents an updated agenda.

Abstract:
Cold temperatures in fact become a fact why smoking behavior in the Dieng plateau is increasingly growing and cultivating, not only among adolescents, adults and even the elderly according to a survey conducted by researchers, 9 out of 10 elderly people smoke. Even more astonishing data are from 9 elderly people who smoke 3 of whom are elderly women. Smoking behavior among elderly women in the Dieng Plateau is even made as one of the tourist destination icons that often invites curiosity both foreign and domestic tourism, because it is taboo in society's view in general but instead it is used as one of the strategies to attract tourists. Elderly women smoke at first in the sacred event of cutting dreads because the social status of elderly women who smoke comes from a high social status but has an impact on the sustainability of smoking behavior which will certainly result in the emergence of various diseases and other losses due to smoking such as increased ISPA and heart disease suffered by a child whose mother smokes. Various government efforts in controlling smoking behavior have also been carried out and one of the efforts is by giving non-pharmacological therapy to smokers. The method in this activity is in-depth and tiered counseling to 17 respondents, after being grouped into 3 categories (wanting to quit smoking, wanting to reduce, and continuing to smoke) and giving non-pharmacological therapy is given based on their respective categories. In the group that wants to quit smoking the counseling given is motivational so that the smoker really wants to leave the cigarette with a success rate of 100%, for group respondents wanting to reduce the attainment of counseling is 65% while the group continues to smoke has not been reached because the success rate of counseling is still low at 12 % only.

Abstract:
Purpose – While curiosity is a critical factor in motivating human exploratory behaviors across domains, past studies are yet to explore the exploratory curiosity construct in the context of backpacking. This study aims to conceptualize backpackers’ exploratory curiosity and, importantly, developing a scale for the construct. Design/Methodology – A survey questionnaire is first designed on the basis of a literature review and in-depth interviews. Then, two surveys are conducted using sample sizes of 228 and 276. The scale, along with its four factors (i.e., excitement, new destinations, social contact, and new tourism events) and 18 items, was determined as reliable and valid by the implementation of a rigorous instrument development process. Approach – This study identifies the characteristics of backpacker exploratory curiosity, and then generates fundamental constructs with detailed descriptions and explanations for a questionnaire. Subsequently, to understand the characteristics of such curiosity and how they can be applied to explain backpacker behaviors. Findings – This study extended the application of the curiosity concept to the tourism industry, and offered a new perspective, namely, exploratory behaviour individuals display in response to novelty, excitement, and changes in their environment can be used as variables to measure their curiosity level, and then the BECS can be utilized by tourism management organizations to help increase the number of potential clients. Originality of the research – The study contributed to a theoretical enhancement of the current level of knowledge on the existing literature on backpackers’ exploratory behavior and developed a reliable and valid scale for measuring backpacker exploratory curiosity.

This research examines the manifestation of Appreciation system in online tourism advertising discourse. The data is picked out from ten advertisements posted on Youtube by Expedia Group, an American travel group and are qualitatively and quantitatively analysed with the help of the Concordance AntConc software. The findings show that three subcategories of Appreciation which are Reaction, Composition and Valuation coexist in this discourse with different distribution. Besides, positive Appreciation and its negative counterpart are unevenly distributed in the samples, with the rate of 1: 9. Negative Appreciation, however, contributes to the ignition of visitors’ curiosity and desire to discover the destinations rather evoke unfavourable views of the appraised. Besides the conclusion, some implications for applying the research result to English teaching and learning in Vietnam are also provided at the end of the paper.

Abstract:
Background: The development of cross-border tourism and local resources based on the border has grooving the importance in last decencies. One of the most important tourist attractions on Polish borders are tripoints. This article seeks to discuss changes made, by reference to two border tripoints situated on the junction of Polish, Czech and Slovak borders in the Beskids Mountains and on the junction of Polish, Slovak and Ukraine borders in the Bieszczady Mountains. Material and methods: Analysis of historical, legal and statistical materials as well as cartographic analysis and fieldwork were conducted. Informal discussions and formal in-depth interviews were undertaken with tourists in each of the researched tripoints: informal interviews/discussions with 45 tourists in the tripoint between Poland, Slovakia and Czechia and informal interviews/discussions with 40 tourists in the tripoint between Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. Results: The tourists reaching tripoints in the Carpathians argued that the places have a great potential for tourism development. They underline great symbolic meanings, possibility to visit three countries in a short time and the importance of the point which is interesting and give an opportunity to take a nice photo. The presented research also exemplifies the concept of a new tourist space beyond traditional tourist destinations. This ensured the status of the tripoint as a resource, a “discovery”, and a curiosity. Conclusions: The border tripoints give great opportunities for the development of tourism. Openness and permeability of borders can determine development on both sides of tourism related to the presence of the border, and offer an opportunity for cross-border attractions to be set up. Tripoints as emerging tourist attractions have appeared in new marketing materials and have the potential to serve as unique border attractions.

Abstract:
Motum, Markus. Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover. Candlewick Press, 2018. Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover, written and illustrated by Markus Motum, would be a welcome addition to any classroom’s library. With exceptional pacing and flow, Motum takes us through the true story of one of science’s great achievements: successfully landing a rover on Mars. Many young readers have an inherent interest in outer space and science fiction. In this book, Motum expounds the science of science fiction in detailing the story of how Curiosity ended up on Mars (where it still roves today) in a somewhat narrative form. It would be appropriate for all grade levels, though younger grade students would likely need experienced help in order to read it. The font size and colour vary making them readable to most audiences, and they serve the story well. The story is told from the point of view of the rover itself, named Curiosity. It begins by introducing itself as if it were a sentient creature before it goes back to the beginning, in a very cosmic sense, to plant its story within the wider view of space exploration in general. Motum’s choice in this case allows the reader to gain greater perspective for Curiosity’s story. Curiosity itself is as developed as it needs to be for the purposes of the narrative; that is to say, Motum does not imbue the rover with emotion or opinions within the story. However, the emotions and opinions of the astronauts, scientists and engineers who are namelessly featured throughout the story are indeed explored, which gives a sense of urgency and peril as we travel alongside Curiosity on its adventure. In addition to authoring this picture book, Motum also illustrates it in a mixed media style that is both alien and historic. The solid colours and painted portions evoke the artistic style of old postcards from days gone by, while simultaneously making the Martian landscape seem exotic and alien, as if Mars were a travel destination, welcoming travellers like Curiosity. Though beautiful, the illustrations do not add much information to the story of Curiosity; in some instances, they provide some spatial context like when Curiosity tries to land on Mars. The illustrations lend a hand to create atmosphere, both in the context of the story and for the reader. Some of the text is also placed in unconventional locations on the page, so the text and the illustrations work together to create meaning and story. One finds that the eye is drawn to specific parts of the image on each page, and it is masterfully done. For these and many other reasons, Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover is a great example of modern children’s literature. It is suitable for a variety of ages, and it is worthwhile reading in many ways. Highly Recommended: 4 out of 4 stars Reviewer: Thomas Pasterfield Thomas Pasterfield is a fourth year undergraduate student in Elementary Education at the University of Alberta. Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to explore the formation of a destination image (DI) threatened by terrorism. The study sheds light mainly on the 2015 terrorist attacks targeting a beach resort. It allows us to understand the motives behind it, as well as the information stimuli and DI construction for tourists who visited the destination despite the threat of terrorism and those who changed their travel plan. Design/methodology/approach A Netnography and in-depth semi-structured interviews were carried out. The two qualitative studies offer a methodological complementarity to capture the motivations, the impressions, the beliefs and the feelings of tourists who visited the destination hit by the terrorism and those who cancelled their visit or substitute the destination. Findings The results suggest that rational fatalism, compassion, curiosity and better offer value are the main motivations expressed by tourists who visited the destination during the summer of 2015. On the other hand, fatalism, solidarity with the European community, worse offer value and perceived insecurity seem to be the main causes behind the traveller’s reluctance to visiting Tunisia. The findings also uncover differences regarding information sources and reflections on media coverage of the events. Indeed, some tourists develop antagonistic feelings towards the destination alternatively positive and negative. Originality/value This is one of the first studies investigating the responses of tourists visiting a destination threatened by terrorism in a real-time situation. It also elucidates the process of DI formation for both tourists visiting the destination and those who cancelled/ substituted it.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how the continued interest in the concept of “miniaturism” has seen the micropub develop into the new format of the microbar and examines the drivers of this trend. It then reflects on the possible implications of the rise of the microbar concept on the future of the urban tourism destination landscape. Design/methodology/approach This is a conceptual paper that is built on the natural curiosity of future studies to use an understanding of the present to predict what will happen next and what the implications of those developments will be. Findings The paper provides a clear definition of the microbar and identifies four distinctive drivers behind its conception, linked to changes in consumer behaviour. These cover the rise of the micro-break, the need for responsible urban regeneration, consumers desire for immediate and unique experiences and increasingly diverse populations. The paper predicts that these trends will drive an increase in microbars leading to greater tourist mobility in the urban tourism destination, more fragmentation and heterogeneity of products and services as well as an intensification in the need for authentic experiences and opportunity driven development giving rise to a hybrid form of guerrilla hospitality. Ultimately the authors predict that the venue will become more important than the specific location when consumers view the landscape of the urban tourism destination. Originality/value The focus of previous academic research has been on the historic development of the micropub and its impact on regeneration and communities, but very little literature has examined the rise of the microbar and the potential implications for the urban tourism destination.

Abstract:
Tourism, one of Malaysia’s fastest growing economic sector, has created many business opportunities, the majority of which are family-controlled businesses. New ventures are started by founders who will eventually invite their relatives, especially as successors for their businesses. Nowadays, a successful family business is not determined by traditional methods alone such as profit, assets, or capital, but also take into account survivability or entrepreneurship transmission between generations. Unfortunately, entrepreneurship researchers have not fully embraced tourism because of the prevailing assumption that tourism is a just regular business. Both tourism and transgenerational entreprenership fields employ empirical studies to justify their idiosyncrasies but remain separate from each other. If studied together, it would lead to better understanding of both fields and would even spark the curiosity of researchers to investigate family relationships in conglomerate tourism businesses. Further research into this mixture of fields will also provide a conceptual economic model for tourism destination development bodies that will enhance and promote local community entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
On the Polish market, original and stylised products referring to the era of socialism are becoming popular. These are mainly cultural and entertainment products with both everyday and artistic items being offered and purchased on online auction portals while the production of sentimental memorabilia from the period of the Polish People’s Republic is also being developed. At the same time, the growing interest in Poland as a tourist destination among both domestic and foreign tourists is the reason for the increasing curiosity of its socialist past. Therefore, tourist offers based on relics of that era are increasingly being created on the domestic tourist market, however, the quality of these products and services sometimes raises concerns over the quality of the message that they carry. The main question is whether this is only a simplified message based on stereotypes which give the recipient only a truncated and shallow picture of Poland’s difficult past. This article discusses the main trends and the conditions necessary for the creation of services and products based on relics of socialism in Poland and is based on sources from Polish and foreign literature, both academic and professional, as well as the websites of businesses and institutions creating such market offers.

Abstract:
Pangolins are some of the most trafficked mammals in the world. China is a major destination country for illegal wildlife trade and Guangdong Province is one of the areas of high domestic wildlife consumption. A willingness to consume lies at the root of the illegal wildlife trade. To understand the ideological roots of pangolin consumption, and to propose solutions, we conducted a consumption survey in 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong and have collected 1,957 valid questionnaires. In these questionnaires, 108 respondents (5.52%) who had consumed pangolin-related products, scales had been consumed by 61 respondents (3.12%), 58 respondents (2.96%) had consumed meat. We found that scale consumption was primarily motivated by disease treatment (80.43%). The main reason for meat consumption was accidental (44.83%), but among those who intentionally ate pangolin were motivated by curiosity (22.41%) or “showing off” (8.62%). Simultaneously, the respondents' future consumption willingness for medicinal purposes was more difficult to change than its use for other purposes. What's more, the public's insufficient understanding of the status of pangolins in China and weak legal awareness were potential reasons for pangolin consumption. In addition to classifying pangolins as Category I state-protected animals in China and strengthening penalties and enforcement, we recommend creating public awareness of the risk of zoonotic diseases, advocating for the use of alternative medicines in disease treatment and removing scales from ingredients in patented medicines, which will all act to reduce the demand for pangolins. We expect these actions to change public consumption behaviors and their collective understanding of pangolins, which improve pangolin protection efforts around the globe.

Abstract:
The translocation of “problem-animals” is a common non-lethal strategy to deal with human-wildlife conflict. While processes of wildlife translocation have been widely documented, little is known about the social repercussions that take place once the capture and the return of a problem-animal to its natural habitat fail and it has to be permanently placed in captivity. We investigated how the public, an important stakeholder in wildlife conservation, perceived the translocation of a female jaguar to a wildlife captivity center. The objectives were to (1) assess the public's perceptions (e.g., attitudes, emotions, awareness) toward the jaguar and its translocation process, and (2) how these psychological constructs are related. We used the social media profiles of the three institutions involved in the process (one responsible for the jaguar rescues, one that supported its recovery, and the one responsible for the jaguar's final destination) and analyzed the comments left by their followers on posts related to the jaguar and the translocation itself during 25 days. A total of 287 comments were analyzed through coding, a categorizing strategy of qualitative analysis; 33 codes were identified. Results showed high admiration for the work done, positive attitudes and emotions, and concern toward the animal. Lack of awareness about the translocation process was high, with comments of curiosity toward the situation being one of the most commonly found. To a lesser extent, people felt sad for the jaguar not being able to return to the wild and criticized the need for translocation. Admiration for the work had a strong relation with gratitude and broader positive perceptions toward the jaguar's story. Criticism related to concern, which was also related to a need for more information and curiosity. Our findings suggest that the public who engaged with those institutions through their Instagram accounts were grateful for seeing the jaguar safe, but were not aware of the complexity of the operation nor about the nature of the conflict with farmers. The public can either reinforce a particular action or jeopardize an entire operation, depending on their perceptions of the matter. In the case of this jaguar, the public held a positive view; however, we acknowledge the limitations of our sample and recommend further analyses of social repercussions among people who are not followers of these organizations. Furthermore, we recommend engaging other stakeholders to fully understand the human dimensions of translocating this jaguar. Finally, for social acceptance, we highlight the importance of transparency and reliability of the organizations operating the translocation.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to explore how the concept of extended self-influences luxury shopping tourism consumption among Chinese tourists. It explores why luxury shopping is important for Chinese tourists. Specifically, this study focuses on a strategically important emerging market segment: post-1990s female Chinese tourists. Design/methodology/approach To explore the link between the extended self and luxury shopping tourism consumption among post-1990s Chinese female tourists, this study adopted a qualitative and interpretive approach. A total of 22 semi-structured in-depth interviews were carried out to collect the data. Findings This qualitative inquiry found that luxury shopping during overseas holidays has some subtle differences from luxury shopping in China, as the conceptualisation of luxury is highly context-based. Through a focus on gender and generational differences, the current study reveals that the idea of individuality has started to influence their luxury purchases. Practical implications The study shows how different selves are associated with luxury shopping. It thus provides empirical evidence regarding the reasons behind their motivation, especially for shopping overseas to get a good price and an exclusive and enjoyable luxury shopping experience abroad. Also, it was found that curiosity about buying luxury products is viewed as less favoured and logical shopping will be a future trend. Individuality is becoming a trend for younger consumers. Originality/value Theoretically, by linking the “extended self” with luxury shopping tourism, this study provides the social-psychological aspects of luxury shopping tourism. Instead of focusing on particular destinations, this study provides compressed but also focused inquiries to explore how the concept of the self-influences post-1990s female Chinese tourists’ shopping consumption while on holiday, and how this luxury shopping experience influences their concept of the self.

"THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE PHLEGRAEAN FIELDS BETWEEN BIBLIOGRAPHIC AND ICONOGRAPHIC SOURCES." Studia Polensia 8, no. 1 (December 4, 2019): 139–60. http://dx.doi.org/10.32728/studpol/2019.08.01.08.

Abstract:
Since ancient times, the Phlegraean Fields were one of the most popular travel destinations. For the particular geological characteristics of the territory, the nobility of ancient Rome built numerous pleasure villas, especially in the area between Pozzuoli, Baia and Bacoli, and later, in the modern and contemporary age, the travellers of the Grand Tour made the Phlegraean fields a real centre of tourism known all over the world. Over the centuries, through their travels, local and foreign scholars described the environment of the Phlegraean fields in their travel notebooks, often accompanied by sketches and drawings. In addition to these precious proofs, of particular interest are the articles published in the architecture and engineering periodicals within which projects of buildings are reported to be placed along the coastal strip, changing its original appearance. Through the analysis of bibliographic, documentary and iconographic sources, such as the guides of monsignor Pompeo Sarnelli, “La Guida de’ forestieri, curiosi di vedere, e di riconoscere le cose più memorabili di Pozzuoli, Baja, Cuma, Miseno, Gaeta. Ed altri luoghi circonvicini”, and canon Andrea de Jorio, “Guida di Pozzuoli e contorno”, the drawings of the French architect Prosper Barbot and the periodical “Bollettino del Collegio degli Ingegneri e Architetti in Napoli”, this paper intends to illustrate the environment of the Phlegraean fields during the XVIII and XIX centuries, making a comparison with the environment of the contemporary urban context. From the comparison of the sources it emerged how the image of the Phlegrean landscape has rapidly changed over the centuries. Today, most of the archaeological monuments and the same coastline are covered by a poor quality contemporary building, the result of the lack of control of the institutions, and which today gives the image of an environment of great but disordered beauty.
