Abstract:
Arab society before Islam was a society that lived in the Jahiliyah era. Jahiliyyah which means ignorance and in Islamic law Jahiliyyah means "ignorance of divine guidance" or "condition of ignorance of God's guidance". This paper aims to get to know the natural conditions, social conditions and culture of Arab society before Islam. The results of the study: The Arabian Peninsula is a desert region located in the southwestern part of Asia. The Arabian Peninsula was a strategic area on ancient world maps, when the Australian and American continents were unknown to people, because it was located at the meeting point of three continents, namely Asia, Europe and Africa. The northern region challenges Arabia with the Syrian desert valley, the east is bordered by the Persian plateau, while the west is bordered by the Red Sea. The Arab region consists of deserts where the air is very hot and windy, this area is the Tihamah area, while the area that is in the form of valleys in the mountains is the Hijaz area. The social condition of Pre-Islamic Arab society was based on ethnicities that continued to maintain the teachings of their ancestors, by continuing to maintain traditions such as humiliation, killing female babies, worshiping idols, gambling, stealing, drinking intoxicants, robbing and justifying any means to make wishes come true. The most prominent pre-Islamic Arab cultural community is the field of Arabic literature, especially Arabic poetry. The country of Yemen is a very important cultural growth place that once developed in the Arabian Peninsula before Islam came. The Arab nation is a nation that has a high sense of art.

Abstract:
Some 40 years had passed since the death of Mozart, and Donizetti had made a name for himself with Anna Bolena and L'Elisir d'Amore. His music is certainly more fragile than Mozart's and his originality lies in his use of melody which is masterfully constructed to evoke humour, sentimentality and tragedy. In Lucia his musical canvass is, perhaps, the greatest he ever painted. Based on a story by Sir Walter Scott, it tells of the love of Lucia for Edgar of Ravenswood, who is the last of a rival household. In order that the Lammermoors' fortunes can be retrieved, Lucia's brother, Lord Henry Ashton, arranges for her to marry a politically influential figure, Lord Arturo Bucklaw. Ashton arranges that a forged paper indicating the infidelity of Lucia's lover is passed to her. She believes herself deserted and unwillingly consents to marriage with Bucklaw. On sealing the contract with her signature at the wedding, Edgar appears, having returned from France to claim his Lucia. Convinced that she has betrayed his love he damns her and throws the ring she gave him at her feet. The effect of this is to drive Lucia insane, she slays her husband and dies of her sorrows. Edgar waits to duel with Lord Ashton outside the castle. But Ashton flees, leaving Edgar in solitude. Edgar is then told by a procession of Lucia's death. He kills himself in sorrow.

Abstract:
Tourism is one of the major sectors that influences the gross domestic product of countries. In this study, Thom’s Discomfort Index (DI) is used to evaluate the long-term climate comfort of humans in a spatiotemporal context in Jordan. Geospatial models were created to generate the distribution maps of climate variables and the DI for each month of the year. The maps were classified into eight comfort levels. The monthly long-term average of one-day visitors (2005-2018) was used for evaluation of the climate comfort. Results showed clear spatiotemporal variations in climate comfort levels in the country. The cold sensation was found from December to March in the highlands and the desert plateau, the moderate climate comfort level concentrated in April, May, and September in most of the country, and the hot comfort levels were found in Jordan Valley and the desert plateau in July and August.

Abstract:
Plants thriving in harsh desert environments provide a suitable bio-system for unraveling novel mechanisms for survival under seasonal climate change and combination of temperature extremes, low water and nutrient availability and high salinity and radiation levels. The study of the desert plant Zygophyllum dumosum Boiss in its the natural habitat of the Negev desert revealed that stress tolerance is achieved by a plethora of mechanisms (e.g. morphological, molecular and developmental mechanisms), which are probably regulated by multiple genes that act together to bring about tolerance. Of particular interest is the finding that Z. dumosum like other Zygophyllaceae species, most of which inhabit dry and semidry regions of the world, do not possess the repressive epigenetic markers of histone H3 di- and tri-methylated at lysine 9; yet they possess mono methyl H3K9. We discuss the adaptive value of lessening epigenetic constraints with regard to the opportunistic behavior that makes plants most adaptable to change.

Abstract:
In the Old Testament, the metaphor of the "desert" is quite central in the spiritual image of God's people. In the ancient world, the reality of the wilderness was a pivotal point in Israel's encounter with God. Associated with the life of the church today, the reality of postmodernism becomes a new challenge that causes distortion and fragmentation between orthodoxy, orthopathy, and orthopraxy in church life. This essay aims to examine how desert spirituality can be integrated into the contemporary Christian life. This study uses a qualitative approach with socio-theological analysis. The results of this study are expected to develop a critical awareness of the church about the complex social meaning of desert spirituality practices that can be integrated into postmodern social reality as a transformational practice of personal life, service, and society.

Abstract:
This paper aimed at investigating if the application of biochar (BC) to desert sand (DS) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), characterized by a very poor soil-water retention (SWR) and by a very low value of the maximum water available for crops (AWmax), could positively affect soil water balance, by reducing the irrigation needs (VIRR) and improving the irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) and the water use efficiency (WUE). The analysis was performed for three crops, i.e., wheat (Triticum aestivum), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum). BC was applied to the DS at different fractions, fBC (fBC = 0, 0.091, 0.23 and 0.33). Drip irrigation was adopted as a highly efficient water saving method, which is particularly relevant in arid, water-scarce countries. Soil water balance and irrigation scheduling were simulated by application of the AQUACROP model, using as input the SWR measured without and with BC addition. The effect of BC was investigated under either a no-water stress (NWS) condition for the crops or deficit irrigation (DI). The results showed that the application of BC made it possible to reduce the predicted VIRR and to increase the IWUE under the NWS scenario, especially for wheat and sorghum, with less evident benefits for tomato. When a deficit irrigation (DI) was considered, even at the lowest considered fBC (0.091), BC counterbalanced the lower VIRR provided under DI, thus mitigating the yield reduction due to water stress, and improved the WUE. The influence of BC was more pronounced in wheat and tomato than in sorghum. The results evidenced that the application of BC could be a potential strategy for saving irrigation water and/or reducing the effects of drought stress in desert sand. This means that biochar could be used a management option to promote local production and reduce the dependency on food import, not only in the UAE, but also in other countries with extremely arid climatic conditions and large extensions of sandy soils similar to the considered DS.

Abstract:
People always have had to confront themselves with the unforeseeable behaviour of the environment and climatic variability. However, for the first time in the history of our planet, climatic change is today caused by human activity. This situation of global crisis is caused by a series of factors that make of the present emergency a new scenario, exposing entire areas of the planet to the risk of lack of water and desertification. However, desert and desertification are two different things. The desert is characterised by a precise ecological balance established in the course of time by specific climatic conditions. These precise conditions have generated knowledge capable of facing adversities with appropriate techniques for capturing and distributing water, for preserving soil, for recycling and for the economical use of energy. The paper analyse the different solutions adopted in ancient periods in order to cope with water scarcity. In particular the study compares the Neolithic experiences in the Puglia Region and in the Sassi di Matera (Italy) with similar structures in the rest of Mediterranean. These traditional solutions are today proposed in a new innovative form to cope with environmental crises.

Abstract:
The existence of mangrove forest ecosystems in coastal areas usually doesnt grows and develops by itself, but there are also other ecosystems, such as desert-seagrass ecosystems, algae and coral reefs, thus forming a vast and very complex ecosystem. The conditions like this are also found on the coast of Teluk Jor, Jerowaru, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. The absence of regulation of resource use is a problem in Teluk Jor which starts from the people's perception of marine and fisheries resources as public property, joint property or individual property. This studies aims to see the extent of the awiq-awiq role and the effectiveness of its implementation in developing the coastal community of Teluk Jor. The research method used is a qualitative method, with a phenomenological perspective. The results of the identification shows that awiq-awiq Teluk Jor is formed from local wisdom and community initiation to conserve the areas.

Abstract:
This study analyzed the thermal comfort in arid-desert climate of the United Arab Emirates based on the Discomfort Index (DI) and Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) method. For this purpose, the average monthly meteorological data including temperature, wind speed and relative humidity were obtained from three stations (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain) during (1980-2018) period. The result indicated that the highest value of DI and UTCI obtained in Abu Dhabi during August, with 37.7°C and 59.2°C respectively. UTCI values indicating strong heat stress found during period from April to November months. Discomfortable is very strong and dangerous in April, while State of medical emergency found from May to October. Al Ain has a lower number of comfortable months of both indexes, for which the winter months are comfortable in the three areas. The United Arab Emirates is one of the first countries concerned with climate change and trying to limit its future impacts. Therefore, created a ministry for this purpose which is, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

Abstract:
Water scarcity is the major limiting factor for oasis-desert agricultural production of cotton. It is necessary to improve cotton for drought tolerance and minimize drought-related crop losses, and the transgenic approach is efficient for cotton improvement. In order to evaluate the value of ScALDH21 transgenic cotton (G. hirsutum L.), it was tested in the main cotton region of south Xinjiang, in an environment of extreme drought around the desert. Transgenic cotton, overexpressing aldehyde dehydrogenase gene (ScALDH21) from the desiccation-tolerant moss Syntrichia caninervis in cotton variety Xin Nong Mian 1, was field-tested under six treatments based on three irrigation schedules and two irrigation levels (full (FI) and deficit (DI) irrigation) as follows: root zone model-simulated forecast irrigation (F) (FFI and FDI), soil moisture sensor-based irrigation (S) (SFI and SDI), and flood irrigation based on experience estimates (E) (EFI and EDI) to evaluate growth and yield performances. The results revealed that plant height and leaf area increased significantly in ScALDH21-transgenic cotton genotypes under all treatments. Physiological parameters such as chlorophyll content, net photosynthesis rate, and instantaneous water use efficiency were not significantly highly in transgenic lines compared to non-transgenic plants (NT). However, transgenic lines showed significantly improved yield and superior fiber quality than NT plants regardless of irrigation. The results demonstrate that ScALDH21-transgenic lines were excellent compared to NT plants under different water deficiency conditions. The study also provides guidelines for optimal irrigation protocol and minimum water requirements for the use of the ScALDH21-transgenic cotton lines in arid zones.

Balanites aegyptiaca(Balanitaceae) is a widely grown desert plant with multiuse potential. In the present paper, a crude extract fromB. aegyptiacaseeds equivalent to a ratio of 1 : 2000 seeds to the extract was screened for antiplasmodial activity. The determined IC50value for the chloroquine-susceptiblePlasmodium falciparumNF54 strain was 68.26 . Analysis of the extract by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detected 6-phenyl-2(H)-1,2,4-triazin-5-one oxime, an inhibitor of the parasitic M18 Aspartyl Aminopeptidase as one of the compounds which is responsible for thein vitroantiplasmodial activity. The crude plant extract had a of 2.35 and showed a dose-dependent response. After depletion of the compound, a significantly lower inhibition was determined with a of 4.8 . Moreover, two phenolic compounds, that is, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-phenol and 2,4-di-tert-butyl-phenol, with determined IC50values of 50.29 and 47.82 , respectively, were detected. These compounds may contribute to thein vitroantimalarial activity due to their antioxidative properties. In anin vivoexperiment, treatment of BALB/c mice with the aqueousBalaniteextract did not lead to eradication of the parasites, although a reduced parasitemia at day 12 p.i. was observed.

Abstract:
In the 2000s the Duta Mas Fatmawati area was a "live" area and crowded with visitors, but now it looks deserted. Many shophouses are abandoned and abandoned by their residents. Several things that affect this condition, one of which is the construction of MRT stations and tracks in 2013. This development makes access difficult because many roads have to be closed during the construction process, causing congestion and difficulty in getting parking. this causes the interest of visitors to be lost. Even after the completion of the MRT construction, the Duta Mas Fatmawati area has not shown a significant increase. Many things affect it, such as arid areas and lack of greenery, roads with potholes due to former construction and frequent traffic jams and floods at certain points. A small-scale intervention using the urban acupuncture method is needed that is able to solve environmental problems while also being a water catchment area in the form of a creative public space that utilizes the MRT and the many bus stop points in the Duta Mas Fatmawati area. The existence of this creative public space, of course, in addition to solving existing problems in the Duta Mas Fatmawati area, is also an attraction that can attract tourists from other areas and of course can accommodate and improve the economy of the surrounding community. Keywords: Urban Acupuncture; Creative Public Space; Retail Abstrak Pada tahun 2000-an kawasan Duta Mas Fatmawati merupakan kawasan yang “hidup”dan ramai pengunjung, namun sekarang kondisinya terlihat sepi.

This final task report aims to determine the model of the container queue at the diamond Terminal, as well as the graduation requirement of the Jakarta State University management course. From the calculation results of the system performance of the queue in the field of stacking the diamond terminal shows that the busiest month occurred in May with the number of containers arrival as much as 8199 boxes and the arrival of the most deserted containers occurred in the month June with a number of containers as much as 5332 boxes. The probability calculation results are not contained in the system queuing occurring in February and may by 0%. It shows the busyness of the RTG tool reaches 100% and the percentage of the most small bustle of the RTG tool in April and June by 20% showing the most lonely conditions in the queue system in the field of diamond buildup. The high level of arrival of containers in addition to the complexity of the diamond buildup field that eventually exceeded the capacity limit of the RTG tool thus giving rise to an imbalance between the arrival rate and the service level of the diamond terminal.

Le ragioni di una sconfitta, Laterza, Rome - Bari, 1997, 468 pp., ISBN 88–420–5196–9, 45,000 Lire.In April 1987, I turned up at Trento's Centro Santa Chiara expecting to see a screening of Mustapha Akkad's The Lion of the Desert and discovered instead, due to a forced entry into the auditorium and confiscation of the reels by the Digos, that Italy faced its colonial past with real anxiety. This film recounts the life of Omar al-Mukhtar, the man who made Italy's conquest of Libya a vicious and bloody war of attrition complete with the whole set up that empirebuilding required for its cheerful accomplishment: concentration camps, mass deportations, massacres of civilians, carpet bombing of villages, etc. Omar al-Mukhtar was hanged, of course, and for Gheddafi Libyan patriotism was born, hence his pleasure in pouring enough oil money into the film to attract big names like Anthony Quinn and Irene Papas. But in Italy the film was banned because considered ‘damaging to the army's honour’. It is strange, but perhaps not altogether without logic, that the Italian army should feel threatened by people being able to see soldiers of Fascist Italy behaving as the soldiers of Fascist Italy behaved, when taking into consideration that the Italian Republic was born, like Libya, out of the Resistance. As in Germany (or so goes the story), the army remained impervious to the excesses of fascist ideology and, of course, played an important part in countering it. But if there was a project that the Italian army (before and during Fascism) made very much its own it was the colonization of Africa.

Abstract:
Kebayoran Baru is one of the urban villages in Jakarta. Blok M is one part of this kelurahan. This Blok M area has a bright prestige because of its shopping center. Many young people in the 1980s stopped by to gather, shop, or just show off their vehicles. But over time, this area experienced degradation which made the Blok M area deserted. Many factors have caused degradation to occur, such as the proliferation of similar shopping centers around the area, and the government's intervention did not involve the Blok M area as part of the intervention journey. The author wants to revive this area by using the Urban Acupuncture method. This method is used as a method for processing regional data and the data is analyzed and produces a synthesis. The results of this analysis are applied by the author using the symbiotic method and spatial perception into the intervening space in the area with the site as part of the micro-scale intervention. It is hoped that the intervention will be able to revive the prestige of the Blok M area, which is famous for its youth gathering point. Keywords: Blok M; Degradation; In Between Space; Symbiosis; Urban Acupuncture Abstrak Kebayoran Baru merupakan salah satu kelurahan yang berada di Jakarta. Abstract:
Beta patula Aiton is a crop wild relative (CWR) which belongs to the Gene Pool 1b and is considered a Critically Endangered species, and is present in very specific environments, such as the Desembarcadouro islet (DI) in Ponta de São Lourenço or Chão islet (CI) in the Desertas Islands. The ISOPlexis Center (University of Madeira) has been providing continuous support for its in situ conservation by keeping a management plan of wild populations and an ex situ conservation strategy through the storage of accessions in the ISOPlexis GeneBank. The present work intends to present the spatial distribution of genetic variability and diversity in these B. patula populations using eight polymorphic Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) markers. The overall results lead to the identification of three spots with a high genetic diversity. CI with a small cluster of individuals shows a genetic footprint different from DI, having unique alleles present in its population. DI has two distinct areas: the western area, with a higher individual density but with a lower genetic diversity and higher allele fixation; and the central area, with a lower individual count but with a higher genetic diversity and with the presence of unique alleles. Despite some genetic differences, the comparison of the two islets’ DI and CI populations shows that they have more similarities than differences. Analysis of the Molecular Variance, based on the hierarchical cluster, showed a 9% diversity between populations, 68% among individuals, and 23% within individuals. This data will be used for the establishment of a protocol to monitor and manage B. patula genetic diversity under a genetic reserve, subsequently contributing to the European Genetic Reserve network implementation and the protection of this important CWR.

Abstract:
Abstract. One of the challenges in studying desert dust aerosol along with its numerous interactions and impacts is the paucity of direct in situ measurements, particularly in the areas most affected by dust storms. Satellites typically provide column-integrated aerosol measurements, but observationally constrained continuous 3D dust fields are needed to assess dust variability, climate effects and impacts upon a variety of socio-economic sectors. Here, we present a high-resolution regional reanalysis data set of desert dust aerosols that covers Northern Africa, the Middle East and Europe along with the Mediterranean Sea and parts of central Asia and the Atlantic and Indian oceans between 2007 and 2016. The horizontal resolution is 0.1∘ latitude × 0.1∘ longitude in a rotated grid, and the temporal resolution is 3 h. The reanalysis was produced using local ensemble transform Kalman filter (LETKF) data assimilation in the Multiscale Online Nonhydrostatic AtmospheRe CHemistry model (MONARCH) developed at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). The assimilated data are coarse-mode dust optical depth retrieved from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Deep Blue Level 2 products. The reanalysis data set consists of upper-air variables (dust mass concentrations and the extinction coefficient), surface variables (dust deposition and solar irradiance fields among them) and total column variables (e.g. dust optical depth and load). Some dust variables, such as concentrations and wet and dry deposition, are expressed for a binned size distribution that ranges from 0.2 to 20 µm in particle diameter. Both analysis and first-guess (analysis-initialized simulation) fields are available for the variables that are diagnosed from the state vector. A set of ensemble statistics is archived for each output variable, namely the ensemble mean, standard deviation, maximum and median. The spatial and temporal distribution of the dust fields follows well-known dust cycle features controlled by seasonal changes in meteorology and vegetation cover. The analysis is statistically closer to the assimilated retrievals than the first guess, which proves the consistency of the data assimilation method. Independent evaluation using Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) dust-filtered optical depth retrievals indicates that the reanalysis data set is highly accurate (mean bias = −0.05, RMSE = 0.12 and r = 0.81 when compared to retrievals from the spectral de-convolution algorithm on a 3-hourly basis). Verification statistics are broadly homogeneous in space and time with regional differences that can be partly attributed to model limitations (e.g. poor representation of small-scale emission processes), the presence of aerosols other than dust in the observations used in the evaluation and differences in the number of observations among seasons. Such a reliable high-resolution historical record of atmospheric desert dust will allow a better quantification of dust impacts upon key sectors of society and economy, including health, solar energy production and transportation. The reanalysis data set (Di Tomaso et al., 2021) is distributed via Thematic Real-time Environmental Distributed Data Services (THREDDS) at BSC and is freely available at http://hdl.handle.net/21.12146/c6d4a608-5de3-47f6-a004-67cb1d498d98 (last access: 10 June 2022).

Black Sea Cucumber (H. atra) is a type of marine biota that has ecological and economic value in the waters of the Karimunjawa Marine National Park. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship length-weight, condition factor and analysis of differences between Holothuria atra (black sea cucumbers) that live in cultivation and tourism zones and those that live in rehabilitation zones. Sea cucumber sampling is conducted at noon in 3 stations of the cultivation and tourism zones, namely Menjangan Kecil, Menjangan Besar and the waters around Wisma Apung and 1 rehabilitation zone station in Alang-alang. Observation of sea cucumber samples is done by census. Total samples obtained in Alang-alang were 30 individuals with a range of length 13-43 cm, weight 49-514 g, sampel in Menjangan Kecil were 17 individuals with a range of length 9-26 cm, weight 20-260 g, sampel in Menjangan Besar were 5 individuals with a range of length 16-23 cm, weight 66-193 g, and last sampel in waters around Wisma Apung were 17 individuals with a range of length 14-28 cm weight 23-260 g. The growth of sea cucumbers in each waters shows a negative allometric growth pattern which means that the addition of the length is faster than the addition of the weight. Fulton’s condition factor values of black sea cucumber in Alang-alang 1.34, Menjangan Kecil 1.91, Menjangan Besar 1.89, and waters around Wisma Apung 1.37, shows that black sea cucumbers in the waters that many visitors are fatter than black sea cucumbers in the Alang-alang which deserted visitors, and the relative weight condition factors of Alang-alang 104.27, Menjangan Kecil 104.25, Menjangan Besar 105.59 and Wisma Apung 108.22 each of the waters above 100 indicates that these waters provide sufficient food surplus.

Abstract:
Stera-3β,5α,6β-triols make useful tracers of the autoxidation of Δ5-sterols. These compounds are generally analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after silylation. Unfortunately, the 5α hydroxyl groups of these compounds, which are not derivatized by conventional silylation reagents, substantially alter the chromatographic properties of these derivatives, thus ruling out firm quantification of trace amounts. In this work, we developed a derivatization method (trifluoroacetylation) that enables derivatization of the three hydroxyl groups of 3β,5α,6β-steratriols. The derivatives thus formed present several advantages over silyl ethers: (i) better stability, (ii) shorter retention times, (iii) better chromatographic properties and (iv) mass spectra featuring specific ions or transitions that enable very low limits of detection in selected ion monitoring (SIM) and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) modes. This method, validated with cholesta-3β,5α,6β-triol, was applied to several environmental samples (desert dusts, marine sediments and particulate matter) and was able to quantify trace amounts of 3β,5α,6β-steratriols corresponding to several sterols: not only classical monounsaturated sterols (e.g., cholesterol, campesterol and sitosterol) but also, and for the first time, di-unsaturated sterols (e.g., stigmasterol, dehydrocholesterol and brassicasterol).

Abstract:
I took these pictures while travelling on my motorbike in Southern Italy. Except for the first two (“Caged_N,” a view of Naples from behind the bars of an ancient cloister now hosting one of the city’s universities; and “Ashes,” a view of Naples’ Città della Scienza), they were all taken in the summer. Summer, in fact, is the season during which contrasts and colors are most powerfully sublimated against these lands’ vast horizon, disclosing sceneries made of abandonment, forgetfulness, and stubborn elemental creativity. This is the fate of the South: to be alive in spite of everything, in spite of bad politicians and of colonizations disguised as (short-term) “development” policies. Though, this being alive conveys very much the weight of a problematic life, which is often a struggle against the challenges of space_time_matter. Or, even worse, against the violence of organized crime, as in the case of “Ashes,” given to the flames in 2013 and now slowly resurrecting.Defined by environmental economist Manlio Rossi Doria “la terra dell’osso,” the bone land, the internal territories of the South survive in their elemental combinations, crisscrossed by huge (and often disproportionate) infrastructures that remain often “cathedrals in the desert” (like the majestic Musumeci’s Bridge, portrayed in the picture “Minimo Strutturale”) and by building developments that cover catastrophic events (in this case, the earthquake of 1980) with abstract—and therefore equally catastrophic—solutions (“Piano Regolatore”). In this silent landscape, testimonies from the territory’s “original characters” take not only the shape of abandoned agrarian houses (“Agrarian Reform”), but also that of the surprising inventiveness of ancient ways to create the built environment. This is the case of Basilicata’s historic town Matera (“Matera”), that, from being a site of backwardness and abandonment, has turned today into a UNESCO World Heritage Site and will be the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Abstract:
This work is aimed at showing the present capabilities and future potentialities of an imaging radar system that can be mounted onboard flexible aerial platforms, such as helicopters or small airplanes, and may operate in the UHF and VHF frequency bands as Sounder and as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). More specifically, the Sounder operates at 165 MHz, whereas the SAR may operate either at 450 MHz or at 860 MHz. In the work, we present the first results relevant to a set of Sounder and SAR data collected by the radar during a helicopter-borne campaign conducted in 2018 over a desert area in Erfoud, Morocco, just after the conclusion of a system upgrading procedure. In particular, a first analysis of the focusing capabilities of the Sounder mode and of the polarimetric and interferometric capabilities of the SAR mode is conducted. The overall system, originally developed by CO.RI.S.T.A. according to a ASI funding set up in 2010, has been upgraded in the frame of a contract signed in 2015 between ASI and different private and public Italian Research Institutes and Universities, namely CO.RI.S.T.A., IREA-CNR, Politecnico di Milano and University of Trento.

Abstract:
TheHaloxylongenus belongs to the Amaranthaceae (formerly Chenopodiaceae) family. The small trees or shrubs in this genus are referred to as the King of psammophytic plants, and perform important functions in environmental protection, including wind control and sand fixation in deserts. To better understand these beneficial plants, we sequenced the chloroplast (cp) genomes ofHaloxylon ammodendron(HA) andHaloxylon persicum(HP) and conducted comparative genomic analyses on these and two other representative Amaranthaceae species. Similar to other higher plants, we found that theHaloxyloncp genome is a quadripartite, double-stranded, circular DNA molecule of 151,570 bp in HA and 151,586 bp in HP. It contains a pair of inverted repeats (24,171 bp in HA and 24,177 bp in HP) that separate the genome into a large single copy region of 84,214 bp in HA and 84,217 bp in HP, and a small single copy region of 19,014 bp in HA and 19,015 bp in HP. EachHaloxyloncp genome contains 112 genes, including 78 coding, 30 tRNA, and four ribosomal RNA genes. We detected 59 different simple sequence repeat loci, including 44 mono-nucleotide, three di-nucleotide, one tri-nucleotide, and 11 tetra-nucleotide repeats. Comparative analysis revealed only 67 mutations between the two species, including 44 substitutions, 23 insertions/deletions, and two micro-inversions. The two inversions, with lengths of 14 and 3 bp, occur in thepetA-psbJ intergenic region andrpl16 intron, respectively, and are predicted to form hairpin structures with repeat sequences of 27 and 19 bp, respectively, at the two ends. The ratio of transitions to transversions was 0.76. These results are valuable for future studies onHaloxylongenetic diversity and will enhance our understanding of the phylogenetic evolution of Amaranthaceae.

Abstract:
Kampung Jaksa is a secondary block area in the city center which used to be tourism, especially on Jaksa Street which was a legendary street due to backpacker tourism. However, nowdays, it has experienced a degradation of identity as tourism which is quite critical, causing this area to be deserted. The lack of success of temporary interventions prompted new, more permanent strategies in the form of architecture. This architectural strategy is in the form of urban acupuncture, where small interventions can have a big transformative impact on public spaces. Based on the analysis, this potential in the field of culinary tourism encourages the creation of a gastronomic program so that it can explain cuisine, especially Indonesian cuisine with techniques that can be interacted and learned by visitors. The result of this design is a gallery building that focuses on circulation and the stages of sensory experience that visitors will get. This result also adds supporting programs in the form of vertical urban farming and building orientation respond to the site so as to provide public space for the surrounding area.

Abstract:
The aim of this contribution is to demonstrate through the study of the concrete example of the Charterhouse di San Lorenzo in Padula (Province of Salerno, Italy) how and to what extent, the utopian value of the spirituality of the Carthusian monks - inspired by the model of the Desert Fathers and the Church of primitive Christianity, devoted to the practices of strict enclosure, of rigorous abstinence, of meditation, of contemplation and of prayer - has affected the definition and development of a specific iconography; both for what concerns the figurative arts, which have as a milestone the theme of martyrdom and angels (the creatures closest to God), present within the monasteries of the order, both for what interests the architectural structure of buildings. Always the same as themselves, especially for the design, distribution and function of the spaces, which as a whole and in particular, they reflect, strictly and everywhere, the immutability of the Carthusian Rule, never changed since the foundation of the order in 1084. Following the model of the first monastery, built on the Chartreuse massif, in Grenoble (France), made by St. Bruno of Cologne, new settlements were erected and spread throughout Europe, with an exponential growth that does not suffer interruptions until the end of eighteenth century and that, left a deep and unequivocal cultural mark in the territory on which they extended. The Charterhouse model, a kind of Earthly Jerusalem like an imitation of the Celestial Jerusalem, can be well included in the universe of utopian architecture, but of the possible ones, where spirituality became tangible reality and where the sacredness of space conceived and built by the monks puts us in touch today the man with sensitive and perceptible experience, the so-called hierophany.

Abstract:
Between 1946 and 1951 Richard Goodchild carried out the fieldwork that was to result in a seminal series of articles and publications on the ancient settlements of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica (Goodchild 1948; 1949a/b; 1950a/b/c/d; 1951a/b/c; 1952a/b/c; 1953; 1954c; 1971; 1976; Goodchild and Ward-Perkins 1953; Ward-Perkins and Goodchild 1949; 1953). The cartographic results appeared in 1954 as two splendid sheets in the ill-fated Tabula Imperii Romani (TIR) series at a scale of 1:1,000,000 (Goodchild 1954a/b). These twenty-two publications remain of fundamental importance to our understanding of the ancient topography of Libya.Goodchild's map can with hindsight be seen as one of the few successes of the ill-fated TIR project. The TIR initiative aimed to produce 58 maps covering the Roman world, but huge problems have beset it all along and only 11 maps have ever appeared in definitive form. Although work continues in some areas, it must be considered improbable that this series will ever be completed (see Talbert 1992 for a thorough review of the history of the TIR).The fact that it is now nearly 40 years since the compilation of Goodchild's two TER sheets for Libya is probably reason enough for resuming his interest in mapping ancient Libya. Much has happened in the interim to refine our knowledge of both urban and rural settlement, as a glance at the relevant volumes of Libya Antiqua, Libyan Studies and Quaderni di Archeologia delta Libia will reveal. For the study of the ancient geography and toponomy of Cyrenaica, the studies by Stucchi (1975) and Laronde (1987) are of particular importance. In addition to map corrections necessitated by the new information and perspectives, one may cite the inconvenience caused by the incompleteness of the TIR coverage to the south, east and west of the Leptis Magna and Cyrene sheets. For instance, how can we hope to understand the settlement geography of Roman Tripolitania without reference to Tunisian western Tripolitania or to the desert tribes (Phazanii, Garamantes etc)?

Abstract:
Despite the crisis of the metaphoric growth of its superficiality to its deadening sterility, Dubai stands as an attractive destination in the desert simulating a collage of cultural images from around the world with a centrally-planned free market capitalism attracting investors and developers. This paper is part of my master in architecture thesis at Politecnico di Milano titled: 5km/hr Manifesto and it outlines the problematical aspect of Dubai DNA: Dubai public spaces. The city is metaphorically analysed, as a collage city of exogenous fragments and a system city resembling a biological cell with defects in it’s the so-called public spaces that are designed as a model of a virtual panopticon of social surveillance forged by a set of do’s and don’ts. Built up rapidly over the past few years on the wealth gotten from oil, public spaces in Dubai have no depth of history or indigenous culture, no complexity, no conflicts, no doubts, nothing to stand in the way of its being shaped into the ultimate wonderland. The Arab notion of public has been dramatically ignored in the planning of the city and has been replaced with a collage of regulated western modernist spaces that have failed to create pockets of interaction and communication bringing in mind a problematical situation and an utopic question: How to demystify the panopticon effect and make Dubai more liveable? This leads to the recall of the qualities of the endogenous Arabic Public Space: The Souk. A set of characteristics has been concluded and if integrated, might really change Dubai public spaces from a paranoic panopticon to a more liveable space. Enclosure and privacy, human scale and density, the stage and back stage effect were essential conditions in the souk and are elaborated in this paper presenting a set of new design guidelines for claiming back what is supposed to be public and might develop into further future research.

Abstract:
During spring-summer 2009, a survey was conducted to determine the species of Phytophthora present in citrus nurseries in Egypt. A total of 300 samples of soil and fibrous roots were collected from the rhizosphere of symptomatic Volkameriana lemon (Citrus volkameriana Tan. & Pasq.) plants growing in Delta (Benha-Qalyubia) and a desert (Cairo/Alexandria desert road) citrus nurseries. Plants showed various symptoms. Canopies of affected plants showed few and yellowish leaves, a general stunted growth, no new vegetation, and sometimes sudden desiccation; the root system showed few dark brown feeder roots, no new yellow-white apexes, and a fibrous appearance of the rootlets due to disintegration of the cortical bark but not of the xylem. Collected rootlets and soil were plated in Petri dishes containing a selective medium for the oomycete Phytophthora (2) and incubated for 3 to 6 days at 19 ± 1°C as described by Ippolito et al. (1). Pure cultures were obtained by single-hypha transfers and the isolates were identified as Phytophthora palmivora (Butler) Butler on the basis of morphological and cultural characteristics (3). Isolates formed stoloniferous colonies on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and grew between 10 and 30°C, with the optimum at 25°C. On V8 juice agar, they showed a highly fluffy pattern and produced terminal and intercalary globose chlamydospores. Sporangia were papillate, elliptical (45 to 51 × 29 to 35 μm; length/breadth ratio of 1.3:1.8), and were caducous with short pedicel. All isolates were A2 mating type, forming spherical oogonia and amphigynous antheridia in dual cultures with reference P. palmivora isolate of A1 mating type. Identification of the isolates was further confirmed by amplification and sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region using the universal primers ITS4 and ITS6. BLASTn analysis of ITS sequences (GenBank Accession No. HE583183) showed 99% homology with P. palmivora isolates available in GenBank. Pathogenicity tests for P. palmivora were conducted by inoculating three groups of ten 6-month-old Volkameriana lemon plants, transplanted into 1.4 liter pots with growing medium artificially inoculated at the rate of 1% (v/v) of P. palmivora inoculum produced according to Yaseen (4). Ten uninoculated plants served as a control. Two months after the inoculation, plants were analyzed for canopy symptoms and the presence of pathogen in feeder roots. More than 50% of inoculated plants showed foliage symptoms and extensive decay of feeder roots. Colonies of Phytophthora were recovered from necrotic rootlets and identified as P. palmivora, fulfilling Koch's postulates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of P. palmivora as a pathogen to citrus plants in the Egyptian nurseries. P. palmivora should be considered a potential threat to the Egyptian citrus industry since it may negatively influence the nurseries and orchards production in the future. References: (1) A. Abstract:
street vendors often use public spaces which result in disruption of order and the beauty of an area. Street vendors are one of the priority problems in the Pasar Asemka area, the growth of street vendors from year to year continues to make the Pasar Asemka condition more crowded and uncontrollable. In addition, it can be seen from the conditions every year at the Pasar Asemka, namely in 2018 the condition of the Pasar Asemka which was fairly messy, excessive density turned into a deserted area for visitors and street vendors in 2020 where in that year a virus entered. Therefore, urban acupuncture is needed which is assisted by case research methods and field research in the Pasar Asemka area by making a container that can accommodate street vendors to sell in any condition, where the container is made based on the characteristics of street vendors, in which there is a kiosk program, open space, outdoor event, Pasar Asemka gallery. The program given to the container is also equipped with supporting programs such as 3P, parking lots with a hydraulic system and the freedom of street vendors to choose where they sell their goods.

Abstract:
Abstract- Watermelon is a plant that is resistant to dry climate so it can be grown in tropical and semi-desert. Watermelon albedo is a potential source of pectin because it contains pectin compounds. To decompose the pectin in the watermelon albedo can be done by acid extraction process because it will lesser the possibility of damage pectin, whereas alcohol is use to precipitate pectin. In this research watermelon albedo as basic ingredients would be extracted to produce pectin to identified the differences in the influence of temperature variation and the type of solvent extraction of the pectin content of the albedo watermelon and determined variations in maximum temperature and type of solvent extraction to produce pectin. The study was conducted with a 90-minute extraction time and extraction temperature 60, 70, and 80 °C and 500 mL the solvent HCl and CH3COOH with 2.6 pH. The results were obtained taking the maximum conditions of pectin using solvent extraction HCl at a temperature of 80 °C and obtained pectin levels of 11.2635%. Solvent which is a strong acid HCl is easier to untie protopektin pectin so pectin levels has generated a high level. The higher the operating temperature, the bigger pectin levels that are obtained until the temperature limit of 80 °C. This caused by the movement of the H+ ions more reactive, the more contact between the substances dissolved in the sample with solvent and obtained more pectin.
