Abstract:

The study of the facility permitted to determine that the implementation of the travel agency and the operator of tourism Sumak TourismRio in the city of Riobamba, in Chimborazo Province is possible or viable. Techiques of documentary and local investigations were used. In order to accomplish this investigation, a fundamental point of reference, the commercial viability of the project, was taken, which is based on the study of the market. This study was done considering the analysis of the demand. For this an instrument of investigation that in this case was the inquest guide was applied, which permitted the direct collection of information. On the other hand an analysis of the competition considering the local investigation was made considering the tourism organizations (travel agencies and operators of tourism) of the city of Riobamba which offer tourist products of similar characters. Furthermore the projection of the future demand and future competition, using the method of combined increment whose mathematatic method is: Cn=Co(1+i) . Also the unsatisfacatory existence, that is the confrontation of these factors considering un a difference. It is valid review the importance of the analysis of the demand, since it contributes to the definition of the description of the tourist. Considering all the information collected, the following was defined: the universe of the study shows different requirements in reference to tourist packets that the company offers, which permits economic benefits and by this means activate the economy of the city. Finally, it was shown that the sale of tourist packets Will permit the capitalization of the organization, producing a positive financial profit, since the investment produced will be recuperated in the first year of operation, producing an internal profit of 1,493%, an actual net amount of $2,625610.27(dollars) and a cost benefit of $104.19.

This paper addresses the sector of VFR tourism: visiting friends and relatives (VFR). The hypoth‑ esis is that tourism based on social ties facilitates integration in terms of social interaction and social iden‑ tification in the destination, in this case the city of Buenos Aires. The concept itself of VFR tourism is dealt with together with a description and attempted characterisation of the exact movement of this type of tour‑ ism over the last few years as a result of migratory movements with emphasis on social ties and practices. The emphasis is on the degree of social integration and identification occurring in this type of tourism. The methodology used is qualitative, based on semi‑structured interviews of key agents and is complemented with statistics designed to give fuller access to the comprehension of the context.

Abstract:
In this paper we analyze the representation of space in medieval travel books, examining the mythical, sacred and wonderful geography. First, we study the concept of space in the Middle Ages, reviewing the symbolism and perceptions that are forged with their society. Second, we analyze the mythical, sacred, and wonderful elements in the description of the geography of European travellers, considering their discourses and narrative intentions. Finally, the travellers describe the space as symbolic constructions in which real and imaginary perceptions merge. Therefore, travellers transmit geographic, historical, and religious knowledge, which is significant as an expression of their memory and cultural identity, and with which they define their representation of the world.

Abstract:
It is generally accepted that the first description of “platina” to appear in Europe was by a young Spanish naval officer, Antonio de Ulloa, whose famous work “Relación del Viaje a la América Meridional” was published in 1748. Important though this was, of even greater significance was the fact that the primary metallurgy of platinum must have been established much earlier, enabling it to be extracted, purified and manufactured. These processes appear to have been kept secret from other European countries, and until recently their details had not been deduced. Now manuscripts discovered in the Colombian Archives enable known methods of purification to be linked to the description of the primitive manufacturing process.

In this text, I analyze the descriptions and interpretations of various natural phenomena that appear in the Portuguese travel literature from of the 16th and 17th centuries: waterspouts, St. Elmo’s fire, bioluminescence, and lunar halos. This text employs D. João de Castro’s Roteiro de Lisboa a Goa as an outline, comparing Castro’s descriptions to those in Os Lusíadas, História trágico-marítima, and Antonio Pigaphetta’s The first voyage round the world, among others. By analyzing these historical and literary sources, I intend to show that the tone used in describing the natural phenomena can be a clear indication of each author’s purpose in his text — a microcosm of the approach adopted and of the arguments created by the author, reflecting his political or social outlook in sixteenth or seventeenth-century Portugal.

ABSTRACT ∙ Information on the nesting of the Ochre‐breasted Tanager (Chlorothraupis stolzmanni) is limited, only brief nest and egg descriptions are available. This study was based on two nests monitored between February and June 2014, in Tatamá National Park, Colombia. Both nests consisted of a bulky and deep cup and were placed on epiphytes that grew on tree branches or on tree ferns. Two white eggs with reddish‐brown spots concentrated at the larger end were found in each nest. The parents spent 68.8 ± 15.4% of their daytime incubating, and conducted 4.6 ± 0.5 off‐bout trips per day (N = 8 days) that lasted 44.6 ± 5.1 min (N = 36 off‐bouts). Overall, our results showed that C. stolzmanni had a small clutch size and low nest attentiveness typical of related species and other tropical passerines. However, further studies are needed to better understand factors that might contribute to similarities and differences in the nesting behavior among Chlorothraupis species.RESUMEN ∙ Biología de anidación del Guayabero Ocre (Chlorothraupis stolzmanni) en el Parque Nacional Natural Tatamá, Colombia La información acerca del anidamiento Guayabero Ocre (Chlorothraupis stolzmanni) es limitada, sólo existe una breve descripción del nido y los huevos.

Abstract: This thesis advocates a complementary relationship between the practices of travel literature and translation, seen as important disseminators of the image of a literature and culture beyond their national and linguistic boundaries. We also support the importance of both activities in the formation of Brazilian national literature, through the action of important mediators between our nation and the community centers with which Brazil conversed throughout its history. For this, we examined the course of four travelers translators from different national origins and historical moments, providing a brief overview of our cultural relations with foreign countries. We have selected as the subject of our study: the Frenchman Ferdinand Denis, who was in Brazil in 1816, the Englishman Sir Richard Burton, who lived in the country between 1865-69 as British consul, the French-Swiss Blaise Cendrars, who visited the country for three times in the 1920s, and American Elizabeth Bishop, poet who lived in Brazil between 1951 and 1971. Each developed its own trajectory, spreading their own images of Brazil around the world, and acting at different levels to influence our writers. Denis was a key figure in the rise of the Romantic movement in Brazil, the first author of a literary history to separate Brazilian literature from the Portuguese. Burton was a pioneer in translating our literature into English. Cendrars worked with our first generation of modernist writers in developing a national Brazilian modern art. And Bishop was the introducer of modern Brazilian literature in English. Together, the trajectories of these four travelers-translators remake a long and important period of our cultural history, showing how the foreign presence have participated in the development of our national literature and culture

Abstract:
The order of Trinitarian monks used to give hospitality and buy back captives in Islamic lands. So as late as the XVIIIth century in Algiers, the capital city of a province in the ottoman Empire, the Spanish Trinitarians maintened a hospital meant to treat the bodies and souls of Christian captives. Father Ximénez, appointed to the Turkish city in order to create a foundation in Oran, wrote a diary there, This is an outstanding, unique, and peacemeal source, entitled A Journey and Diary from Algiers and Tunis, which he kept writing when in Tunis where he will built a new establisment. In it he testifies to what according to him, was happening there in the first quarter of the XVIIIth century. Our essay uses this source, a mirror of the imaginary vision of the age, in order to explore a past reality, that of the regency in the years 1718-1720. It confronts text with reality, includes the author's ideological and cultural idiosyncrasies so as to test how reliable the text is, and how valid the collective images common at the time, namely the distorsion of reality by the trintarian fathers, the high-handes tyranny of the government, the overpowering wealth of this country "

Abstract: This research analyzes travel accounts from the first Brazilians who went to the Soviet Union, published between 1928 and 1933. It aims to historicize them, stressing not only the ideologies of their authors, but also the Brazilian anticommunist context imposed by authorities, in particular by the Foreign Ministry, Itamaraty. The research also investigates how the trips occurred and how the travelers were received and treated in some cities of the USSR. For that, it analyzes how some Soviet agencies behaved in hospitality, in order to control and persuade their perceptions. Finally, an analysis is made of the image that Brazilian travelers formed from Soviet everyday life on the period of the First Five-Year Plan. The main purpose of this study was to work with travel accounts considering its various possibilities, in order to contribute to the inclusion of these narratives as documentary sources in social historiography

This study intends to understand the India translated and presented by Octavio Paz in In light of India. Also seeks to detect the image of México and of Latin America that emerges from the book in contrast with the Indian culture. In the book is possible to identify two different journeys: an internal journey that the mexican poet does inside himself and Mexico is his destine and starting point; and the actual journey that Paz makes to India. Thus, this study means to organize and deepen some key concepts of Paz’s works (as otredad, temporalities, poetic language, love) found not only in In light of India as in different essays of Octavio Paz

Abstract: This thesis analyzes some aspects of a travel narrative - Roteiro do Maranhão a Goiaz passando pela Capitania do Piauhi - written by an anonymous author. In the last years of the XVIII century, this writer made a long journey through the Portuguese colonies in the Amazon region. In his "Roteiro", the traveler elaborates an important colonization plan aimed at founding a state organization in one of the most desert and uncivilized areas of the Portuguese colonies. In order to plot this course of action, the author uses all his knowledge about economy, in the way that it was understood in XVIII century Portugal.

Abstract:
Assim, alto e baixo, vastidão e infinitude, luzes e trevas, vilania e nobreza, paraíso e inferno, feiúra e beleza, ordem e desordem, vida e morte se entrelaçam no percurso do viajante ideal.
Abstract: To study the representations of Brazilian Amazon and to translate Henry Major Tomlinson's The Sea and the Jungle are the main purposes of this thesis. The book was written by a British journalist who in the month of December 1909, released from his work at Morning Leader and boarded S. S. England in a coal port in Swansea, Wales. After crossing Atlantic ocean, the author arrived in Para, Brazil, and from there, he steamed up the Amazon and Madeira Rivers to Porto Velho the current capital of Rondonia State that was then the initial point of MadeiraMamore Railway. The steamership carried coal and machinery to the railway. It is exactly alongside of its track, between Porto Velho and Hell's Cauldron Falls extension that the londoner peregrin undertakes his journal with Marion Hill, his Texan guide whom he met when he arrived at that port in the Jungle. The Sea and the Jungle stablishes relation of intertextuality to Homer's Odissey and it contains sailor's stories and hero's adventures and descriptions of true and mythical world that contribute to the subject's construction. As the book explores travelers and peregrin's discourses, we follow some paradigms: Michel Foucault's notion of discourse and "arts of existence"; the first is in his books A arqueologia do saber and A ordem do discurso; the second is in História da sexualidade: o uso dos prazeres. We follow too some notions derived from PostColonial and Utopian Studies, Literary Criticism, as well as Phylosophy and Asthetics. The Sea and the Jungle reflects and refracts determined social reality of two worlds, traveler's and travelee's, that is the object of the traveler's writing. Throughout this "dancing of mirrors" we investigate to what dimension the narrator criticizes his society from some glances that he projects on others communities. Moreover, we ask how the narrator builds up himself by using references to old travelers, (Hakluyt, Humbolt, Pikes, Wallace, Bates, etc.), some philosofic streaming (Pyrronism e Gymnosofism), to writers such as H. D. Thoreau, R. W. Emerson, F. Drake, D. Spruce; biblical characters as (Moses, Jons, Josuah), to some legends and Greek and Roman myths which he brings to the stage of his literary composition. The argumentative pivot of this thesis is that this travel writing presents itself first as a political and moral criticism to England and Brazil. Second, as an exercise of high thoughts towards the Sublime, "the soul of rethoric body", according to Weiskel when quoting Longino. The representations of the Amazon are configured now as Elysium sometimes as Hell. So, height and lowness, vastness and infinity, light and darkness, villainy and nobility, heaven and hell, ugliness and beauty, order and disorder, life and death are interlaced in the ideal traveller's enterprise. Therefore the author goes beyond writing about the seen, he also makes the reader see

Abstract:
Entitled Séville dans les guides de voyage français et espagnols (XIX-XXe siècles) [Seville in French and Spanish Travel Guides (XIXth-XXth centuries)], this dissertation intends to analyze the image of the Andalusian capital in the barely studied corpus of travel guides, from their emergence in the modern times until the dawn of mass tourism. The first part is meant to study how Franco-Spanish political and cultural relations shaped one—or more—picture(s) of Spain that varied from the “Black Legend” (1700-1823) to the “Red Legend” (1823-1905)—when travel guides were established as a genre—to the “Pink Legend” (1905-1962). The second part shows that guides, as vehicles of various temporal, spatial, historical, artistic, social and human representations, are ideal sources for cultural historians. Contrary to common beliefs, there is no single pattern for travel guides and this work intends to classify them. In the third part, the richness of the sources enables us to show that by appropriating such concepts as the picturesque or the exotic for example, but mostly by taking up or refuting stereotypes such as that of Spain as all “fanfare and tambourine”—in poet Antonio Machado’s words—, the varied forms adopted by guides have an influence on our perception of reality and on our representations. Thus the examination of the intersecting perspectives provided by guides constitutes a new approach to the relations between France and Spain and a fruitful starting point to tackle the construction of a discourse on the dialectics of identity and alterity. These concepts are explored through the study of built and living heritages, of the relations between the guides’ authors and their readers but also through the reading of History in the studied corpus.Key words: Cultural history, Spain, XIXth and XXth centuries, travel, tourism, travel guide, Seville, stereotypes, image

The study aims to understand the meaning produced about the State of Piauí as a mark of a place and an integral part of the Brazilian nation. The State contrasts with others from the same region of the country, regarding economic indexes, quality of life and social welfare, although it has attractions that constitute potential natural and cultural assets of tourism exploration. It is hypothesized that, independent of its geopolitical, historical and cultural formation, the image of Piauí results from variants in the scope of communication, since many agents operate on the elements that construct their simulacrum of identity, leading, thus, to a negative perspective on the place. In this process, it is important to know how the state's action was promoted by the last two state governments, by the media focused on the dissemination of local attractions, both interested in promoting tourism. Taking as a basis the approach of communication in the field of brand formation, specifically the one that deals with place branding, by authors such as Kapferer, Kotler, Kavaratiz and Ashworth is intended to construct a critical vision of the strategies of building a brand of place (taken from the analysis of official IBGE data and other sociodemographic research institutes), which result in biases that are detrimental to a positive image of Piauí, or that reveals the erasures of attractive elements to the tourism and the people from Piauí. Among institutional and private discourses, the analysis proposes to understand which values are highlighted according to the interests of each group and how this shows an imbalance in the use of communication techniques to the detriment of inhabitants and the image of that State

Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), English naturalist well-known for his studies on natural selection, chose Amazon as his first long range expedition. Between the years of 1848 to 1852, he observed and described the fauna, flora, geology and human groups that inhabited the surroundings. In these studies, Wallace also thoroughly addressed the subject of animal distribution, including figuring out the range limits of the species and their relations to the physical environment. Nevertheless, the maturation of these ideas as well as others just as important to the naturalist work only happened during a future expedition to the Malay Archipelago. An expedition of great notoriety that has become an object of analysis of many studies in present days. The present dissertation, however, specifically addresses the origins of ideas, such as the range limit of species, which remain linked to Wallace's Amazonian journey

Abstract:
The bivium of human life, narrated in the myth of Hercules and symbolized by the Pythagorean Y, was a recurring motif in Spanish theater since the second half of the sixteenth century. Lope de Vega already developed it in one of his most remote sacramental plays, Comedia del viaje del hombre. In Viaje del alma, auto sacramental of Lope composed around 1599, on the occasion of the double royal wedding of Philip III with Margaret of Austria and the infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia with the archduke Albert of Austria, and published in El peregrino en su patria, the crossroads is represented through two opposing ships, of which the playwright offers us an accurate description that has its origin in the iconographic tradition in force at the time

Abstract:
Two showcases displayed a selection of books and objects from the collection of the Aboca Museum (the museum of Aboca, a pharmacological firm in Sansepolcro), and from its Bibliotheca Antiqua, showing the thousand-year history of the relationship between man and medicinal plants. Hieronymus Bock’s Kräuterbuch represents the first comprehensive description of central European materia medica – plants and their therapeutic properties. This is followed by some of the most important Renaissance editions of Dioscorides’ De materia medica: the works of Jean Ruel, author of the first Latin translation of Dioscorides, and of the Portuguese interpreter Amato Lusitano, as well as the Commentarii (Commentaries) on Discorides by Pietro Andrea Mattioli, a work of enjoyed extraordinary success right across Europe. It had been reprinted more than 200 times by the mid-seventeenth century and included high-quality illustrations. Finally, the work of the entomologist and naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian, dating back to the early eighteenth century, showed a rare combination of artistic talent and passionate study of nature, the former serving the latter. Books such as these are now Aboca’s starting point for verifying how certain pathologies were treated in the past and with which plants. The results of historical research are then scrutinised in the light of modern science to develop products that synthesise the knowledge of past and present. The objects come from the museum collection of the Aboca Museum’s Room of Glass Jars and Weighing Scales: on display wew everyday tools of an apothecary and a small box containing the most commonly used homoeopathic remedies of the nineteenth century, with the original granules still visible inside the vials.

Abstract:
The growing importance of mobility in cities is demanding large road and transportation projects in order to qualify the interaction in urban space. Generally the impacts of these changes are not analyzed comprehen-sively, given the complexity of this task. The paper aims to contribute to the analysis of the relationship be-tween large road interventions and their impact on the urban structure, applying a configurational approach. The aim of this paper is to present preliminary results of the application of Space Syntax models (HILLIER and HANSON, 1984) for the description and analysis of urban impacts resulting from the implementation of major road works. The City of Concepción, Argentina, was taken as an empirical study, analyzing interven-tions on the National Route 38 and State 365, the so-called urban crossing. The paper compares the config-uration of the city with and without the urban crossing, identifying changes in the patterns of accessibility and discussing trends in the dynamics of urban spatial structure.

Abstract:
Abstract: The first objective of this paper is to understand the evolution of the idea of promenade in Le Corbusier’s critic. The paper follows how the idea has changed from the movement to the picturesque, to the cinematographic and finally to the idea of montage. The second objective is to understand that the idea of the unexpected for the spectator is key for the promenade. Then we try to understand where does the idea of the unexpected come in Le Corbusier’s formation with special interest in his formation in the nineteenth century critics. And how important to understand the idea of the unexpected is Ruskin’s Mornings in Florence, specially his description of the Spanish Chapel. This chapel will be case study for Le Corbusier and in his study he recognises the importance of the unexpected in architecture. Abstract:
In this paper, we develop a multi-level modeling procedure for copper wirebonding that provides insights into (a) deformation and stress in wire, pad, and die (b) an assessment of the risk of ULK fracture during impact stage and ultrasonic vibration steps. First, we construct a nonlinear, dynamic finite element model (global) to study the mechanical responses of wire, pad, and the underlying ULK stacks during the impact stage and the last cycle of ultrasonic vibration in copper wirebonding. Specifically, these process steps are modeled through prescribing touch down and in-plane oscillatory motions on capillary, which result in dissimilar critical states of stress locally in the ULK stacks. Next, we develop a isogeometric model (local) for a generic configuration of ULK stacks with eight levels of metallization by composing the geometric primitives representing ILD layers, copper lines/vias, as well as the material interfaces following the Hierarchical Partition of Unity Field Composition technique. The description for material moduli in the entire ULK stacks is further enriched with a bi-linear damage law. The critical states of stress obtained in the global wirebond model are then converted into boundary conditions for the local ILD model under plane strain condition to simulate the crack initiation in the ULK stacks. We observe, from the simulation results, potential crack initiation sites along vertical /horizontal interfaces in the ULK stacks due to local compressive/tensile loading during impact/vibration step, respectively.
