Abstract:
A country’s economic growth depends on its GDP, resources, and how perfectly it handles its finances as a whole. Specifically the public debt influences a lot on the economic growth, in the history the developed economy has testified as a lender to nations rather than the borrower. The key source on maintaining the economic growth is to take care of its debt, which will also increase its status on BoP and in turn bring in many FDI and FII into the country which has a direct reflect on the growth of the country as an increment in the GDP. The study is made to understand the influence of the public dept on the country’s economic growth.

AbstractSince the 19th c. Russian archaeologists have studied the legacy of classical civilization in a broad area from S. Russia to the Caucasus and Central Asia, and its interaction with local cultures. The work of the Dept. of Classical Archaeology of the Institute of Archaeology focusses on 10 important Classical sites in the former USSR and on the history of the Bosporan and Chersonesite states. A new trend is the complex investigation of ancient cities and their chora (esp. of areas under threat from agriculture, building and a general deterioration of the ecology). The Dept. of Classical Archaeology collaborates in this work with several foreign research centres and ensures a wide distribution of its results through works for the general reader and exhibitions.

<p>History of education in Indonesia dates back with its multicultural notion and acculturation since many years ago from Hindu Empire till the Islamic ruler. Later on in the colonial era, European education system gave much influence in Indonesia modern education. It was as if two sides of coin, the coming of European countries, such as Portugal and Dutch in Indonesia carried out lot of miseries on the other hands it also contributed to foster of modern education system in Indonesia. This paper is aimed to examine the influence of Islam and Europe influences to Indonesia Education. Modern Islamic Boarding Schools and Muhammadiyah (name of the biggest Modern Islamic Organization in Indonesia) Schools are the typical of the combination between European and Islamic education system synergy. The ethnography method with the participant –observation is used to get the dept observation and identification of the two different cultural contexts. Although, Many Modern Islamic Boarding Schools or Modern Pesantren and Muhammadiyah Schools have been risen up in Indonesia today, otherwise Pesantren with its traditional system are still existed in Indonesia.</p>

Full text
Abstract:
Most critics of The Lord of the Rings correlate Tolkien's work to ancient texts, like Beowulf, the Elder Edda, and medieval romances. While the connection between these traditional materials and Tolkien is valid, it neglects a key feature of Tolkien's work and one of the author's desires, which was to fashion a sort of history that felt as real as any other old story. Moreover, it glosses over the rather obvious point that Tolkien is writing a novel, or at any rate a long work of prose fiction that owes a good deal to the novel tradition. Therefore, through careful attention to the formal textures of Tolkien's work, melding together both genre criticism and formal analysis (and with a sound understanding of literary history), I argue that Tolkien's work follows a more modern vein and aligns with the nineteenth-century historical novel, the genre pioneered by Sir Walter Scott. The projects of Tolkien and Scott parallel one another in many respects that deserve critical attention. This essay begins the discussion by addressing just one, somewhat surprising, point of comparison: the writers' use of poetry. I observe that Tolkien and Scott utilized poetry in similar ways, and I parse the poems into three distinct categories: low culture poems, high culture poems, and poems which straddle the divide between the two. All of this demonstrates how each piece of poetry, written in an antique style, saturates the texts with historic atmosphere and depth. This lends a sense of authenticity and realism to Scott's works, and later it buttresses Tolkien's attempts to foster "the dust of history" and create an illusion of authenticity and realism for Middle Earth's (imaginary) past.

Abstract:

Title: Why Great Britain? – Swedish Encyclopaedias and the Explanatory Perspective of History, Essay in History

Abstract

In my essay I describe how Swedish 20th century encyclopaedias interpret the coming about of the British Empire, the overall purpose being to establish a pattern of evolution in terms of historical understanding on the part of the encyclopaedic literature. Firstly, I have tried to determine whether the presentations at all constitute explanatory efforts. In those cases where they do, I have sought to ascertain whether the reasons put forward are to be understood as structural and stable, or as matters of less permanence. I have also tried to link these interpretations to significant “constructions” of history – i. e: to important theories within this discipline. Finally, I have tried to discern a diachronic pattern, both in regard to explanatory efforts and in regard to the grounds for explanation (time perspective and construction). I have also tried to establish a relationship between explanatory effort and grounds for explanation. As far as the explanatory efforts themselves are concerned, no diachronic pattern emerged. As for time perspective and construction, a significant shift had occurred between the youngest and oldest encyclopaedias. The former discussed conditions of little permanence created by historical actors, while the latter stressed the significance of structural, more stable, conditions. The intermediate period, however, held varying perspectives in terms of time and construction. I also found that the explanatory effort itself, seemed to affect these perspectives.

Abstract:
Abstract The language that is used in the schoolbooks in the subject history seems to be problematic for many students. Its abstract nature and the preparation of events require that history teachers need to make didactic choices that allow students to acquire the subject language. Whit students’ lack of everyday language makes it difficult for students, but also for teachers, as language development should be thought in all subjects in school. Thus, students’ lack of vocabulary generates, not just in the subject of history, that students have difficulties with reading comprehension. Processing the content before, meanwhile and after is something that has a positive effect on students’ language development, but it needs to be connected to their prior knowledge and the context. Furthermore, it is important that students understand the language in which the teaching takes place but also that they are cognitively challenged, which makes demands on the teacher´s didactic choices when it comes to the character of the languages that is used in the teaching. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to study how history teachers, that teach students in the age of nine to twelve, provide language development in the language of history. To gain an insight into, and understand the teachers, semi-structured interviews were used. The theoretical choice for the study was the socio-cultural perspective and as a tool for the analyses of a teaching model named by Cummis were used. The results of the study showed that the two youngest female teachers were the teachers who, through their conscious didactic choices, gave the student the opportunity to develop their language of history. The other teachers also did some didactic choices that gave some development in the language of history to the students, but they were not as conscious about their choices as the youngest teachers. The conclusion that could be drawn was that the younger teachers are probably more aware of what science says about the didactic choices, therefor their teaching methods provide more language development for the students. They may also have the advantage of being examined in conjunction with, or following, the new curriculum, which raises awareness of the demands of language in the subject of history but also the fact that language development should take place in all subjects in school

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter describes the interactions and intersections between film experience and historical experience. The first section introduces the phenomenological theories underpinning the notion of film experience and applies them to the historical film. Focusing on concepts of embodied film perception, it discusses the spectator’s impression of making direct contact with a film’s historical world. This imaginary contact with history bears similarities to Frank R. Ankersmit’s theory of historical experience, which is examined in the second section. The interconnections between Ankersmit’s concept and Vivian Sobchack’s phenomenological theory of film experience are considered in greater depth in the third section. The aim is to develop a concept of histospheres in which sensuous and cognitive perceptions are fused into a unified cinematic experience of history.

Abstract:
Finite element models of curved wide plate (CWP) samples were used to generate a family of load-deformation curves, where each curve corresponds to a flaw with a constant depth. This family of curves was then compared to the test results to find the flaw depth corresponding to each load step using two techniques. One technique is based on mapping the crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) response obtained from finite element analysis (FEA) and tests, while the other one is based on FEA and experimental unloading compliance data. Both the CMOD mapping and unloading compliance techniques were applied to six CWP specimens and the results from the two techniques were compared. The CWP specimens included flaws either at the centreline of the girth weld or at the heat affected zone (HAZ). Nominal flaw sizes were 3 or 5 mm deep by 25, 50 or 75 mm long. For all specimens, testing continued until either maximum load was reached or specimen rupture occurred. Failure strain, defined as the remote strain at peak load, ranged from 1.1% to 4.1%. The flaw growth history curves from the CMOD mapping and unloading compliance techniques for a given specimen were generally found to be in close agreement. The prediction of flaw growth at failure for the specimens with flaw in the weld was closer to the experimental flaw growth at failure than for the specimens with flaw in the HAZ. The average FEA to test ratio of the flaw growth at failure for these two groups of specimens was 0.95 and 0.6, respectively. Additional analyses were carried out to study the effect of HAZ softening and the shape of the input stress strain curves beyond the onset of necking.
