Abstract:

Sorong is a city that has been planned as an economic center that will serve Eastern Indonesia. This makes Sorong City planned as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) based on the national spatial plan. The development that occurred in Indonesia is more dependent on economic aspects without looking at other aspects so that the need for industrial estate planning that not only involves economic aspects, but involves social aspects and environmental aspects. The purpose of this plan are: 1) know the current location of industrial estate in terms of the principles of green industry; 2) evaluate the principles of green industry, especially in determining the location; 3) draw up direction for the development of the industrial area of shoves based on the principles of green industry. This research uses scoring method, spatial analysis, and conceptual analysis. this study found that based on the principle of green industrial location, the application of these principles had a total application of 75.6% and on the principle of sustainable site, the area of land was classified as "very appropriate".

Abstract:

Technology and innovations have fueled the evolution of Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution. Industry 4.0 encourages growth and development through its efficiency capacity, as documented in the literature. The growth of the construction industry is a subset of the universal set of the gross domestic product value; thus, Industry 4.0 has a spillover effect on the engineering and construction industry. In this study, we aimed to map the state of Industry 4.0 in the construction industry, to identify its key areas, and evaluate and interpret the available evidence. We focused our literature search on Web of Science and Scopus between January 2015 and May 2019. The search was dependent on the following keywords: “Industry 4.0” OR “Industrial revolution 4.0” AND TOPIC: “construction” OR “building”. From the 82 papers found, 20 full-length papers were included in this review. Results from the targeted papers were split into three clusters: technology, security, and management. With building information modelling (BIM) as the core in the cyber-physical system, the cyber-planning-physical system is able to accommodate BIM functionalities to improve construction lifecycle. This collaboration and autonomous synchronization system are able to automate the design and construction processes, and improve the ability of handling substantial amounts of heterogeneity-laden data. Industry 4.0 is expected to augment both the quality and productivity of construction and attract domestic and foreign investors.

Abstract:

Is China’s textile industry (CTI) still a laboor-intensive one? To answer this question, this study measures the capital-labour intensity and technology intensity of CTI and its sub-sectors during 2006-2018, then applies factor intensity classification and cluster analysis to identify their industrial attributes. The results show that CTI and its sub-sectors are still the labour- and non-technology-intensive. All the indexes of capital-labour intensity and technology intensity of CTI and its sub-sectors are below 100, lower than the average of industry sectors, indicating that they are not separate from the category of labour-intensive industry and still heavily dependent on labour. And cluster analysis verifies the industrial classification results. So CTI still needs to keep on increasing its capital intensity and technology intensity to achieve the goal of industrial transformation and upgrading in the future.

The paper is focused on logistics. The importance of the logistic chain management is emphasized as it becomes a crucial competitive success factor. The total corporate costs and customer service quality are dependent on the structure and communication within this chain. Using a concrete example, several results of the establishment of the logistic approach in the woodworking industry are mentioned in the paper. It has to be emphasized that the application of the logistic principles in the industry has its own specificities arising mainly from the biological character of processes providing and manufacturing the basis resource. A solution of the supply – purchase chain is provided on the basis of an example of the company Dřevovýroba.

Industri makanan merupakan salah satu jenis industri manufaktur yang menggunakan berbagai sumber daya dalam operasionalnya dimana dalam prosesnya berpotensi menghasilkan air limbah yang mengandung berbagai senyawa yang dapat menurunkan kualitas lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan faktor kunci peningkatan kualitas air limbah di industri makanan. Pemilihan alternatif dan analisis strategi menggunakan metode Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM), dimana metode ini menggunakan penilaian pakar dalam bentuk kuesioner dalam pengambilan datanya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat faktor utama dalam upaya peningkatan kualitas air limbah seperti manusia, mesin, metode, material dan lingkungan. Lebih lanjut, berdasarkan hasil analisis dengan metode ISM diperoleh nilai dependent yang rendah dan nilai driver power yang tinggi, maka dapat diketahui faktor kunci dalam peningkatan kualitas air limbah di industri makanan yaitu faktor monitoring harian dalam pengecekan effluent. Sehingga, pemangku kepentingan di industri pengolahan makanan untuk senantiasa melakukan monitoring dan perbaikan proses dalam rangka peningkatan kualitas air limbah yang sesuai dengan baku mutu lingkungan.Kata kunci: Air limbah, Industri makanan, ISM, Kualitas, Faktor kunciABSTRACTThe food industry is one type of manufacturing industry that uses various resources in its operations. The processing process has the potential to produce wastewater containing various compounds that can reduce the quality of the environment. This study aims to determine the key factors to improve the quality of wastewater in the food industry. The selection of key factors is using Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) method. This method uses expert judgment in the form of questionnaires in the data retrieval. The results showed that there are four main factors in efforts to improve the quality of wastewater such as human, machine, method, material, and environment. Furthermore, based on ISM method analysis results obtained low dependent value and high power driver value, a key factor in improving the quality of wastewater in the food industry is daily monitoring factor in effluent checking. Abstract:

The dependency of the Visegrád countries on foreign direct investment has been emphasized in the typologies of capitalist models. Today, the question is whether this development path can be sustained. In past years democratic backsliding and a change towards more inward-looking policies have taken place in this region that may also change their attractiveness to foreign investors. The general slowdown in capital flow can weaken the dependency of these countries on FDI, but the fourth industrial revolution can conversely strengthen it. Based on interviews we conducted with business and academic experts in the Visegrád countries, it is shown that the implementation experiences of Industry 4.0 point to the reinforcement of the duality of firm-level developments and dependency on foreign-controlled enterprises. Therefore, we argue that the FDI-based economic growth path of the Visegrád countries has led to the development of FDI-led industrial transformation.

Abstract:

This paper investigates the degree of market competition in the public accounting industry of Taiwan over the period 1994-2008, using the ‘H statistic’ proposed by Panzar & Rosse (1987). Differing from previous works, this paper applies a newly developed model, i.e., the censored stochastic frontier (CSF) model, to test whether the audit market has achieved its long-run equilibrium. The model is superior to the conventional model that requires researchers adding a unity to the dependent variable of returns on assets (ROA) for all observations, forcing the transformed dependent variable to be non-negative. One can then take the natural logarithm of this dependent variable. Evidence shows that Taiwan’s accounting industry is characterized as monopolistic competition with a trend towards perfect competition. The result will help to build up the empirical model for public accounting industry. The CSF model confirms that this industry is already in a long-run equilibrium in the second half of the sample, which validates the use of the Panzar-Rosse model. Conversely, the employment of the conventional approach leads to a rejection of the long-run equilibrium over the entire sample period.

ABSTRAK Dalam rangka memanfaatkan kekayaan sumber daya alam tentunya diperlukan modal sebagai modal khususnya dari perbankan melalui asset financing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis. analisis disharmonisasi antara asset financing, kebijakan pengelolaan industri pertambangan terhadap PDRB di Lampung. Pembiayaan modal kerja dan pembiayaan investasi digunakan sebagai variabel independen. Sedangkan, dampak kebijakan kebijakan pengelolaan industri pertambangan menggunakan variabel dummy. Variabel independen dan variabel dummy tersebut dihubungkan dengan variabel dependen yaitu PDRB menggunakan metode regresi data panel dengan model Random Effect(REM) di Lampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa asset financing berpengaruh positif terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi di Lampung, namun hanya pembiayaan modal kerja yang berpengaruh signifikan. Sementara itu, kebijakan kebijakan pengelolaan industri pertambangan terbukti memberikan pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi Lampung. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat bermanfaat bagi industri, pemerintah maupun regulator sebagai bahan evaluasi mengenai pengaruh asset financing dan kebijakan pengelolaan industri pertambangan terhadap PDRB provinsi Lampung. Kata kunci: Asset Financing, Kebijakan Pengelolaan Industri, PDRB, Lampung ABSTRACT In order to utilize the wealth of natural resources, of course, capital is needed as capital, especially from banks through asset financing. This study aims to determine and analyze. analysis of disharmony between asset financing, mining industry management policies against GDP in Lampung. Working capital financing and investment financing are used as independent variables. Meanwhile, the impact of the mining industry management policy uses a dummy variable. The independent variables and dummy variables are associated with the dependent variable, namely GRDP using the panel data regression method with the Random Effect (REM) model in Lampung. The results showed that asset financing had a positive effect on economic growth in Lampung, but only working capital financing had a significant effect. Meanwhile, the mining industry management policy has proven to have a positive and significant impact on Lampung's economic growth. The results of this study are expected to be useful for industry, government and regulators as an evaluation of the effect of asset financing and mining industry management policies on PDRB in Lampung province. Abstract:

Nowadays,the manufacturing industry consumes almost half of the energy produced on the planet. Within this industry, sustainable scheduling represents a main issue due to the energy efficiency that it is able to achieve. Centralized or decentralized approaches to sustainable scheduling can be found in state-of- the-art techniques using both optimal or heuristic methods. In this paper, a distributed system modelled as a multi-agent framework is proposed to solve energy-aware scheduling problems by applying it to a real case of the injection air moulding industry, which has intense energy consumption. In this proposal, a set of agents collaborate to reach an agreement in order to minimize several objective functions based on: total job weighted tardiness, total setup time, and energy consumption. The proposed system is compared to centralized and distributed approaches, highlighting advantages and drawbacks and providing an interesting point of view about how to tackle energy-aware scheduling with new agreement techniques in a distributed environment.

There has been a drive towards enhancing the critical thinking (CT) skills development of students in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, both in Australia and internationally. One debate among CT theorists centres on whether CT comprises a set of generalizable skills or is content- and context-dependent. While previous studies have considered CT skills development and its assessment in pharmacy courses, there appears to have been limited scholarly research within the pharmaceutical sciences discipline. In seeking to address this, it is vital to understand how companies conceptualize CT and its use by Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences graduates. This research identifies five major categories used to conceptualize CT in the companies interviewed: being systematic, having strong business sense, considering multiple solutions, considering implications and identifying problems and potential solutions. The study finds that, while these skills are dependent on the business context, they may be generalizable across a range of industries.

This study aims to analyze existence of inequality of employment absorption and determine the effect of the minimum salary, the number of manufacturing industry, and output of manufacturing industry towards inequality of employment absorption of manufacturing industry in regencies/cities of East Java in 2008-2012. The data collection method uses documentation method. Then, The writer uses the Index Entropy Theil (IET) to measure inequality of employment absorption as dependent variable. Meanwhile, to determine the effect of independent variable toward the dependent variable uses method regression analysis panel data with model common effect approach. The results of this study shows that there are inequality of employment absorption of manufacturing industry in East Java province of the Year 2008-2012. Minimum salary, the number of manufacturing industry, and theoutput of manufacturing industry effect positive and significant effect on inequalityof employment absorption ofmanufacturing industry in regions/cities in East Java.

Abstract:

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing the perception of air travellers. The study identified three important dimensions namely customer’s expectations, service quality and past experience as an independent variable and customer perception as the dependent variable. Design/methodology/approach – The primary data was collected using a questionnaire to determine the customer’s perception towards airline services. A sample population size of 300 participants who have previously travelled in a flight has been considered for this study. SPSS statistical software has been used for analysing the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variables. Findings - The study illuminates the differences in perception emphasizing on the various factors that have an influence on their choice. The findings based on the research states that factors such as airport services, reservation and ticketing, inflight services, intangibles and the various dimensions of service quality such as tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy and customers past experiences have a significant influence on the customer’s perception. Originality of the research – The research paper explains the relationship between customer’s perception and the three important dimensions. In order to improve the perception of customers, the supported hypotheses should be focused on.

Using the latest value-added trade data of the OECD-TIVA database, we estimate the position and participation mode of the manufacturing industry and its sub-industries in the two countries in the GVC division of labor. The results show that :(1) since 2005, the division of labor in the global value chain of China's manufacturing industry has been gradually improving, while the United States has been gradually declining. (2) China's position in the global value chain of manufacturing industry is getting closer to that of the United States. China's total participation in manufacturing industry has been higher than that of the United States for a long time. (3) China's manufacturing industry is becoming less and less dependent on the US. On the contrary, the US is becoming more and more dependent on China.

Social, political and economic conditions are changing in rural Canada. The forest industry has operated in rural communities throughout the nation for several centuries and the relationships between forest companies and communities have evolved over that time. This paper outlines a model for company-community relations that will foster sustainable communities given the new realities that exist in rural Canada. The model will benefit forest industry firms as well as the communities that host them. Six problems that inhibit sustainability in timber-dependent communities are outlined and several ideas for corporate action to address these challenges are offered. Among these are supporting human capital development, leadership development, and entrepreneurship; nurturing healthy communities; and ensuring that costs and benefits associated with timber-dependence are distributed evenly across regions where specific companies have a sphere of influence and within specific communities where companies operate. Purpose Prior studies on determinants of shareholder value creation have reported conflicting and sometimes confusing results. In this study, to obtain more refined and industry-specific results regarding variables determining shareholder value creation, an analysis was performed focusing on different categories of firms or industries. Design/methodology/approach Two dependent and 11 independent variables were applied to five different industries to obtain the best set of significant value drivers of shareholder value creation for a particular industry. Findings Market value added (MVA) is a better indicator of shareholder value created compared to a market adjusted return. Accounting-based variables (EPS, ROA and NOPAT) are superior to economic-based variables (EVA and ROCE) in explaining shareholder value creation, but results differ, depending on the dependent variable chosen as shareholder value creation measure. For each industry, there is a unique set of variables that determine shareholder value creation; the industrial goods industry has seven significant value drivers, namely, EPS, NOPAT, ROCE, the Spread, EVA, EBEI and REVA, whilst for the food and beverages industry, there were only two significant value drivers (EPS and ROA). Originality/value These findings imply that management, analysts and shareholders should, depending on the specific industry in which their firm operates, take into account a more specific set of variables when making their financial decisions, including compensation or reward structuring.

This paper discovers the sustainability of agglomeration externalities and robustness issues for Russian private real sector companies between 2011 to 2018. Agglomeration effects are measured with the Ellison—Glaeser index (industry is supposed to be clustered in certain region(s) if the EG value is high). Firms’ sales margin was chosen as the main performance characteristic (dependent variable). The sample was divided into six aggregated groups (agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transport, IT, services). For each of them, sustainability and robustness of the concentration effect were checked using OLS estimates obtained for each year. Companies, located in and out of the cluster were studied separately. Strong, sustainable, and positive concentration effects were found for the agricultural, mining and transport industries. Sustainable negative agglomeration effects appear for the manufacturing and service industries. For IT companies located inside the industry cluster the agglomeration effect appeared to be negative and for those outside it — positive.

The fundamental aims of sustainable urban development and the pro-automobile oriented economic development are on a collision course. It is obvious that automobile-dependent urban development is under heavy/powerful influence of the automobile lobby (automobile and oil industries, along with construction). In this domain famous land-use-transportation studies (or ?grand transportation studies?) are, unfortunately, still prevailing - a vicious circle of self-fulfilling prophecy of congestion, road building, sprawl, congestion and more road building. Until recently, it was commonly thought that investment in public transport was not economically sustainable and that focusing on the development of the automobile industry and financing the construction of roadways stimulated economic growth. In this paper we clearly show that automobile industry is now overcapitalized, less profitable than many other industries (and may become even less profitable in the future), that transport market is characterized with huge distortions (more than a third of motor-vehicle use can be explained by underpriced driving), while new road investment does not have a major impact on economic growth (especially in a region with an already well-developed infrastructure), and that pro-automobile transport strategy inexorably incurs harmful global, regional and local ecological consequences.

The paper develops a simultaneous equations stochastic frontier model (SFM) with dependent random noise and inefficiency components of individual equations as well as allowing dependence across all equations of the model using copula functions. First, feasibility of our developed model was verified via two simulation studies. Then the model was applied to assess cost efficiency and market power of the banking industry of China using a panel data of 37 banks covering the period 2013–2018. Results confirmed that our simultaneous SFM with dependent random noise and inefficiency components outperformed its predecessor, which is a simultaneous SFM with dependent composite errors but with independent random noise and inefficiency components of individual SFMs as well as the conventional single-equation SFM. Apart from the statistical and computational superiority of our developed model, we also see that Chinese banks in general have a high level of cost efficiency and that competition in the banking industry of China mainly exists in state-owned banks and joint stock banks. Presence of economies of scales as well as diseconomies of scales were found in different banks. Also, the state-owned banks embraced most sophisticated technologies thereby allowing them to operate with the highest level of cost efficiency.

This study measures the Intra Industry Trade Index / Rubel Lloyd Index of Indonesia’s coffee commodities with trading partner countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines) and estimates factors the influence of Intra Industry Trade of Indonesia’s coffee commodities. The presented data is obtained from secondary data with the research period from 2000 to 2019 using panel data analysis to know the extent influence of the independent variables (average GDP, GDP value differences per capita, exchange rates and distance) on the dependent variable (Intra-Industry Trade). Based on the estimation results, it can be concluded that the integration degree of intra-industry trade for Indonesian coffee commodities with trading partner countries has varying degrees. This indicates that there is a dependence on the coffee commodity trade. The availability of coffee commodities in these countries is highly dependent on intra-industry exports and imports value between Indonesia and its trading partner countries.

Rural areas in Romania are underdeveloped, with the main economic activity being agriculture. Urban-rural income gap and poverty levels are indicative of an underdeveloped rural area. Urban-rural absolute income gap for average monthly income increased from 352 RON in 2007 to 663 RON in 2017. Moreover, the work poverty rate is higher in rural areas than in urban areas. Economic rural development can be achieved by improvements of the labour market and introduction of new value-added products. Agricultural and non-agricultural activities are dependent on each other for a successful rural development leading to poverty alleviation. An industry that combines the two types of economic activities is agriculture biomaterial industry. In this paper, the authos investigates the factors influencing rural poverty and analyses the current stage of the bioplastics market in Romania and its economic implications. Bioplastics industry can reduce urban-rural income gaps and poverty in rural areas.

We examine the interaction of internal and external firm-level governance mechanisms with industry-specific economic conditions to assess when they best serve current shareholders. We find that external governance (shareholder rights) is most valuable during industry upturns, with no differential benefit during downturns. For internal governance, we find that small boards are incrementally more valuable during upturns but that this result weakens/reverses during downturns, and there is inconclusive evidence regarding the state dependent value of institutional ownership. Contributions include showing: governance mechanisms have industry economic state dependent values; small boards may not always be optimal; and managers do not capture these inefficiencies through aggressive policy decisions, nor excessive compensation.

The digital transformation of society affects socio-economic relations in all spheres of life; however, the degree of this influence differs depending on countries and regions. Various industries and sectors of the economy are also affected by digitalization to one degree or another.In this context, the purpose of the paper is to determine the dependence of human capital in the tourism industry on the digitalization level of the economy.The following methods were used: data standardization, cluster analysis, analysis of variance, K means, and SWOT analysis.The panel sample includes indicators from 61 countries for 2018. The analysis revealed distinctive features that allowed allocating the countries into clusters. Cluster 1 (14 cases): countries with average Human Capital Index (HCI) and World Digital Competitiveness (WDC) values, depending on tourism. Cluster 2 (13 cases): countries with slightly above average HCI and WDC values that are less dependent on tourism. Cluster 3 (15 cases): countries with HCI and WDC values below average, not particularly dependent on tourism. Cluster 4 (1 case): outliers. Cluster 5 (18 cases): countries with above average HCI and WDC that are tourism dependent. The calculation results made it possible to identify the cluster principles. The use of the identified distinctive features in the SWOT analysis allows formulating the key elements of human capital strategies in the tourism sector for each group of countries.

This industry has an important role to raise the growth of the Thai economy. The main objective of the paper is to study the production trends and ability operations of the agro and food industry by using economic tools analyse two sub-industry sectors. The paper reviewed literatures on the performance measurement and productivity change of the business sector to obtain the relative variables and optimal methodology. The paper designed to use the panel data of the agro and food industry during the period 2011–2014. The Slacks-based Measure context-dependent Data Envelopment Analysis (SBM context-dependent DEA) was used to analyse the efficiency and ability in the Decision Making Units (DMUs) by employing the attractiveness and progress score. Moreover, the Malmquist index was used to demonstrate the change of the total productivity of this industry. Therefore, the empirical results of the paper can help the companies inside and outside the stock exchange of the agro and food industry to realize the performance level and benchmark leading to the improvement of their operation. Moreover, they help the government to develop its policy and to understand the character of the sub-industry sectors and the productivity trend in this industry.

This short article analyses supervisory authorities’ responses to what they see as the most important risks related to outsourcing by banks in their country and how these risks have been mitigated through prudential regulation. It appears that many supervisors are concerned about the fact that banks lose direct control over outsourced activities, and see potentially high operational risks (i.e., business continuity threat or operational failures). In second instance, supervisors appear to share concerns that banks may lose certain internal skills and that they become too dependent on a small number of outsourcing companies. Indeed, a high concentration in the market for outsourcing with only a few service providers may lead to an excessive dependence and high switching costs. The MiFID provisions on outsourcing are central under this respect.

Industry and educational institutions are increasingly dependent on each other in terms of their productivity and performance. This paper reports and analyses the findings of a survey designed to ascertain the extent of industry's support for education in India and companies' attitudes towards the provision of that support. Although various forms of business support for education are identified and discussed, the author's overall assessment indicates that, in spite of the very substantial mutual benefits of cooperation, interaction between higher education institutions and companies remains at a low level in India – and this threatens educational and industrial development. In this context, he describes the major impediments to industrial support for and involvement in educational programmes and recommends a series of policy and strategic measures for government, HEIs, and business organizations which would address the constraints and disincentives identified.

In this study, a Copula-based stochastic industry-energy system management (CSIE) model was developed based on Copula-based stochastic programming and interval linear programming. CSIE model can not only deal with extreme random events in industry-energy system (IES) of resource-dependent cities, but also quantify the risks of industrial energy demand-supply. To prove the practicability, a case study of IES planning in Yulin city was represented. Reasonable solutions of energy production and industrial energy consumption strategy were obtained, which can guarantee that pollutant emission meets the environmental requirements, and the system cost gets the lowest during 2021-2035. Furthermore, CSIE model could be spread to IES management in similar resource-dependent cities.

In this paper, a scheduling problem in the freezing station of a frozen food industry is addressed. It is a case of the unrelated parallel machines with machine-dependent and job sequence-dependent setup times problem. In a production shift, each freezing machine is allowed to process only products in the same product family. A mathematical model is developed to solve the problem in order to minimize the production related cost including production cost, fixed production cost, setup cost, inventory holding cost, and backlog cost. The proposed model is tested with a set of various problems. The results demonstrate that the proposed mathematical model could optimally solve the small sized problems.
