Full textLong-stay homes, retirement homes and care homes have been the subject of an increasing number of novels and filiation narratives in France, particularly since the 1980s. As a result, this thesis establishes the history of this place in literature since the 19th century, justifying the relative institutional silence of the period 1890-1970, in terms of relationship between literature, social and medical humanities, and society. A selected corpus of filiation narratives and realistic fiction is compared with a corpus of eleven semi-directive interviews with nursing home residents in order to highlight the many ways in which people experience growing old and dying in institutions. This research in literary studies combined with a field survey reveals a disturbance in the representations of old age and dependency, reinforced by the prism of filiation, to which an ethic of literature can attempt to respond. Enunciative means - work on the voice of the elderly characters, polyphony of humour, polysemy of literary address - appear to be the most fruitful in restoring the link with vulnerability. Finally, thanks to narrative medicine, the aim is to consider how literary texts can be used to learn about and understand ageing in teaching and training contexts

Full textThe slave woman in the greek tragedy treat of the many faces of feminine dependence in the drama of aeschylus, sophocles and euripides : dependence of the captivity of war, dependence de facto of the auxiliaries characters (classicals formes of the enslavement), divin dependence (enslavement of a double sens), metaphorical dependence. The main subject of this study is the free woman that became slave, the femal slavery as lost liberty, and his bonds with the form and the tragic material : in the tragic fiction, the enslavement is only possible in the imaginative dependence, the enslavement is already realized in the real dependence. From slavery with juridical status to metaphoric slavery, we are also in a real system of dependences reflecting the adverse idea - of the liberty and independence independence of cities and people, independence of the woman in front of the patriarcal society too. If the classic philology form the base of this entreprise, our doctoral belong too as part of the new studies on the woman and femal element, using a problematic based on the concepts of gender and sexual difference - dimension justified from the fact justly that the accidental slavery in the drama is essentialy femal, and not male. Beyond this element of sex, the social class and the condition, the ethnic origin and the age are examined in order to define of the persona of the slave woman

Despite changes in hospital law, such a separation has proved detrimental so far. The main purpose of this study is to highlight the birth of a transverse law of the caring of elderly people. Such an evolvement, which is at stake both at the level of the structures and at the level of the individual rights, is an assertion of the prevalence of the idea of person

Full textThe addictive literature appears through addictive substances taken by poets in the middle of the 19th century; it allows a new dimension of writing influenced by drugs. This appears not only in psychiatrists and psychologists but also to artists as a real instrument of mental exploration. Between 1870 and 1914, in the realist and naturalist novel, the addictive and obsessional behavior of fictional characters has significant importance. The aspect of specific dependence to a substance or to an object becomes a literary subject but is dedicated to a specific description of mental phenomena. Dependence is defined as the repetition of certain behavior in order to get some pleasure from a material object or a situation, desired and consumed with greed. We will restrict ourselves in this thesis to work on the addiction of substances at that time: alcohol, morphine, hashish, opium and ether. Fictional invention with scientific intent shows or demonstrates facts in a realistic way in order to inform, warn or theorize by giving a pleasant and artistic appearance. However, the naturalistic author has to stay within the realms of reality without ever corrupting his novel with unchecked information, exaggeration, exuberances which would prevent the text from being credible. Confronted by medical theories and the etiology of dependence, the authors use their imagination to describe the medical phenomena of poisoning and dependence on psychoactive products. [etc.]
