Abstract:
This article makes a chronological tour of the main city-making models, from classic to current times, to arrive at the conclusion that citizen participation in decision-making processes on urban projects has ended up conditioning the current working models of the territory, particularly in terms of urban production. Despite the inconsistency between what the broad body of knowledge on cities (Lexis) establishes for the development of citizenship and the often defended and cited citizen rights, and the practice (praxis) of participation, we find that processes that are promoted as being inclusive and with a collective work approach end up becoming, either through omission, lack of knowledge, inexperience or despotism, models that conceal hierarchical power structures and that deny urban equity and justice in public space projects.

AbstractPerhaps the most fundamental disagreement concerning Nietzsche's view of metaphysics is that some commentators believe Nietzsche has a positive, systematic metaphysical project, and others deny this. Those who deny it hold that Nietzsche believes metaphysics has a special problem, that is, a distinctively problematic feature that distinguishes metaphysics from other areas of philosophy. In this paper, I investigate important features of Nietzsche's metametaphysics in order to argue that Nietzsche does not, in fact, think metaphysics has a special problem. The result is that, against a long-standing view held in the literature, we should be reading Nietzsche as a metaphysician.

As the current hot technology, many large companies have launched their own cloud computing projects, and the ways to realize each project is different, and ultimately lead to a fragmented state to explain the concept of cloud computing today. Almost all manufacturers do not deny that cloud computing is follow-up and development of grid computing, but their philosophy is different. This article aims to explore the similarities and differences between grid computing and cloud computing, from features, technology and operation costs, and to explore the solution of technical problems related to outstanding solutions through grid technology in the development of cloud computing.

This article is a clarification and development of my interpretation of Sartre’s theory of bad faith in response to Ronald Santoni’s sophisticated critique, published in this issue. It begins by clarifying Sartre’s conception of a project and explaining his claim that one project is fundamental, thereby elucidating the idea that bad faith is a fundamental project. This forms the groundwork of my responses to Santoni’s critique of my interpretation, which comprises four arguments: Sartre does not consider us to be ontologically and congenitally disposed to bad faith; Santoni is right that social pressure cannot explain the prevalence of bad faith, but this is a problem with Sartre’s theory rather than a problem for my interpretation of it; Sartre’s conception of seriousness is merely an optional strategy of bad faith; and Sartre is right to deny that bad faith is an inherently cynical project.

Abstract:
AbstractIn his recent book, Daniel Korman contrasts ontological conservatives with permissivists and eliminativists about ontology. Roughly speaking, conservatives admit the existence of ‘ordinary objects' like trees, dogs, and snowballs, but deny the existence of ‘extraordinary objects', like composites of trees and dogs (‘trogs'). Eliminativists, on the other hand, deny many or all ordinary objects, while permissivists accept both ordinary and extraordinary objects. Our aim in this paper is to outline some of our reasons for being drawn to permissivism, as well as some of our misgivings about conservative metaphysics. In the first section, we discuss a tempting epistemic line of argument against conservatism. This isn’t a line of argument we find especially promising. Our most basic complaint against conservatism is not that conservatism has poor epistemic standing even if true, but instead that conservatism is weird. We develop this thought in the second part of the paper. In the final section we discuss some larger methodological issues about the project of ontology.

Abstract:
This paper argues that the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic created a space to reconceptualise education and rethink priorities. Although no one will deny the devastating impact of the pandemic, humans have been able to continue with various projects, including the global education project, largely made possible through unprecedented technology advancement, as well as the uptake of technologies that advanced pre-COVID-19. In many ways, the clear distinction between human and technological (being non-human) practices has blurred to a point where the mere nature of human projects such as the global education project has become post-human. While different schools of thought on the nature of “post-human” exist, we use it to refer to what we are becoming together, a comprehension and awareness of the connectedness between humans and their natural and technological environment and the ethical concerns that come with it. COVID-19 provides an opportunity to reconsider the connectedness, complexities and dynamics of the world, and what we (humans, nature, Earth, technology) are becoming. Based on a literature survey and critical refection on the state of the global education expansion project at the time of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we suggest the following changes to the ways quantity, quality and equality in education are conceptualised. The employment of technology should be added in the conceptualisation of input quality. Flexibility, support and connectedness should be built into the process quality equation. Most importantly, ecology should also be added as a product of education, and not merely a contextual influence in education.

Abstract:
It's not news, or it shouldn't be, that the academy is structurally hostile to meaningful diversity. the reasons FOR this are numerous, and many of them are represented in Written/ Unwritten: Diversity and the Hidden Truths of Tenure—an anthology I edited that features essays and interviews with academics of color. It includes interviews with Houston Baker, Jr., a past MLA president, and Cheryl Wall, Board of Governors Zora Neale Hurston Professor of English, along with an essay by Wilson Santos, an artist, poet, and adjunct professor. I framed the collection with an introduction that shows how the rhetoric of merit used to deny faculty members of color tenure was once used to deny them employment at predominantly white institutions and a conclusion that explores how social media are reshaping how academics of color cope with institutional racism. It's not work I planned to do, and until I stumbled on bell hooks's writing about marginality in Yearning: Race, Gender, and Cultural Politics during my research for the project, I had mixed feelings about it.

Abstract:
This article presents a discussion of feminist praxis in sport psychology research. Praxis is a dialectical process of reflection and action that is motivated by one’s commitment to transformation. Those who are engaged in feminist praxis are working to transform the power and privilege differentials based on social structures and practices that deny or diminish the full humanity of all peoples. Sport psychology research that is grounded in feminist praxis seeks to better understand the sport experiences of marginalized people, especially girls and women, in order to inform strategies and processes for personal and social change. Two research projects are used to illustrate feminist praxis in sport psychology research. The first research project involved an investigation of women’s epistemological perspectives in their daily lives and physical activity domains. The second involved a study of lesbian moral exemplars who have been active and influential in sport. The feminist praxis that grounded both projects impacted the relationships among sport psychology researchers and study participants as well as other methodological considerations.

The ability to copy in relevant stakeholders has rendered the business email a useful tool for managing interpersonal relations and operational matters. However, CCing in business email has remained vastly underresearched in workplace discourse literature, a gap this article seeks to address. We explore the functions of CCing in workplace emails and the way formality is negotiated by writers in one organization. We draw on the analysis of email chains and discourse-based interviews and show that employees strategically project professional achievements and assume and deny responsibility for company decisions as they shift between the sender/receiver positions in the chain.

White privilege analysis has been influential in philosophy of education. I offer some mild criticisms of this largely salutary direction — its inadequate exploration of its own normative foundations, and failure to distinguish between `spared injustice', `unjust enrichment' and `non-injustice-related' privileges; its inadequate exploration of the actual structures of racial disparity in different domains (health, education, wealth); its tendency to deny or downplay differences in the historical and current experiences of the major racial groups; its failure to recognize important ethnic differences within racial groups; and its overly narrow implied political project that omits many ways that White people can contribute meaningfully to the cause of racial justice.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate if the municipal decision on wind power development can be explained by a model including socioeconomic variables and proxies for the natural environment, using a pooled cross-section data set for Swedish municipalities for the period 2010-2019. The study poses the question whether politicians' decisions-making can be explained by socioeconomic factors. In order to analyse the approving or denying of wind power development in Swedish municipalities, three models are used: the linear probability model, the probit and the logit model. The results show that the Green political party (positively affecting wind power development) and that the unemployment rate, income, population density, protected areas and the affiliations with the Sweden Democrats (negatively affecting the approval rate), has a statistical significant effect on the permissionprocess. Installed capacity of wind power plants seemingly have no impact. Our findings suggest that the municipal decision making is less random than the critics of the municipal veto proposes.

Abstract:
The development of information technology during the recent decades has enabled a shift towards an increasingly global world. The market becomes international and the geographical distance is of less importance when a new partnership is to be established. As solutions for electronic communication becomes more widespread, accessible and cheap and the technology maturity in organizations and among its employees increase, not only the theoretical organizational image, but also the everyday life of many companies has started to be characterized by a new geographic spread. This study focuses on project teams operating in an environment where the physical meetings are few or non-existent. So-called virtual project teams. The study examines how a project manager for a virtual project works with team cohesiveness within his virtual project team. The study focuses on the practical tools and approaches that the project manager has and can use in the project to create team cohesiveness. The survey is conducted by qualitative interviews with eight project managers working with distributed teams in Sweden, representing various industries in both the public and private sectors. The material is analyzed based on seven themes identified in previous research and in responses. The result shows that the project leaders in the study all are working to strengthen the team cohesiveness. The project managers chose to focus on different aspects and tools in the process. Communication and clarity are common themes in the strategies that the project managers apply. Even though the projects are virtual the physical meeting is pointed out as important in shaping team cohesiveness. Well-functioning technical platforms that support synchronous communication are part of the foundation for the team cohesiveness in a virtual team.

Storm, Henrik, and Elin Mäkelä.

Abstract:
The global pressure for change and adaption is constantly increasing as well as the organizations need to coop and manage this ever increasing demand for change. Furthermore, change projects are very complex in its nature and suffer from a high rate of failure. Change projects may include both project management and change management. The difference between change management and project management can be described as following: the main focus of project management lies in the technical aspect whilst change management directs the energy towards creating acceptance from the projects receiving individuals. During the last decade, research has been initiated in the field of internal change projects and the need of necessary competencies of the project manager. Still internal change projects and more specifically the difference between change management and project management, have not yet been studied from the project owner’s perspective. The question remains if the project owner is aware of these two sides and if their competencies are reflected in the choice of a suitable project manager. The purpose of this study is to give an indication of which success factors project owners valuates within an internal change project and if those reflect as desired competencies of the potential project manager. This study also includes the role of the project owner and what they themselves define their duty and responsibilities. The design of this study is based from a qualitative methodology with an explorative approach where data was collected from an organization in the public sector via six semi-structured interviews of project owners. The data was later analyzed with a thematic analyze method constructed from a theoretical framework of factors included by the two areas: project management and change management. The result of this study indicates that the project owner have good knowledge regarding the success factors of change which is mentioned in theory. However these success factors are not usually associated with the project managers qualifications. The competencies identified by the project owner to be important by a general project manager are expanded with change management competencies if the project is classified as an internal change project. The addition of required change management competencies is though highly dependent on the project owner’s vision of internal change projects. The role as project owner is described to include a variety of duties and responsibilities of which some of them not covered by the initial theory of this study.

Abstract:
The essay starts with defining and categorizing of information systems with flaws or failure. Flaws and failures identified from previous studies are then presented. A few informationsystems with flaws in a municipality are then examined to find what in them that flaws. To avoid future flaws and failure a model has been developed. Some significant flaws that has emerged include poor involvement of users and the lack of project management in the municipality.

Abstract:
Today's youth today are strongly influenced by the convergence culture and participatory culture and their media habits have increased over the years. Companies focusing on this target group needs to adapt to the participant culture's characteristics and requirements to maintain their customers within this target group. The purpose of the essay is to investigate how a company can adapt to the participatory culture and the youth's media habits. The essay explores the company SVT and how they did to adapt to the participating culture. Through an observation and three qualitative interviews, the author has collected all the results that can be put against the theory in the discussion. The result shows that SVT works to adapt to the participant culture through their Project Z, where they work with communicating with the target group: generation Z and collecting material from them to create future television programs adjusted to the needs and wishes of young people. The conclusion of this study showed that if a company is to adapt to the participant culture, they must first get an understanding of what convergence and participatory culture means and what requirements their target group demands from them. The company must adapt to the high level of participation, meet the needs of their target audience and focus on working on their relationship with the target audience.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates the political project behind the infamous tennis hall meeting, commonly referred to as Bollhusmötet, that took place in February of 1939 in Uppsala, Sweden. Gathering in the local tennis hall, the members of the Uppsala Student Union decided to send a resolution to the Swedish king protesting the reception of Jewish refugees into Sweden in the wake of the 1938 November Pogrom. The protest was widely influential, spurring similar resolutions at other universities and arguably influencing Swedish refugee policy on a national level. The event itself was orchestrated by a group of nationalist students as part of a political project aiming to establish a Nordic power bloc with Sweden as the central power. This political milieu rejected the geopolitics of both England and Germany to promote a specific form of Nordic fascism. Antisemitism was a central part of their ideology, both regarding short- and long-term goals, and antisemitism was also the ultimate motive behind the tennis hall meeting. The architects of these events joined the mainstream conservative milieu in 1940 as part of a strategy to abolish the Swedish political system from within and restructure the Swedish state according to a fascist model bearing many similarities to national socialism.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Canadian pipeline design standard (CSA Z662) requires the repair of smooth dents with depths exceeding 6% of the pipeline’s outside diameter. This limit on dent depth is reduced in the presence of additional localized effects such as pipe wall gouges, corrosion, planar flaws or weld seams. It has been noted, however, that pipelines have operated satisfactorily with dents in excess of 10% while others with 3% dents have failed. Based upon observation of this type the question arises, “Is there more to characterizing a dent than its depth?” An ongoing group sponsored project at BMT Fleet Technology Limited (FTL) is exploring the issue of dent characterization using a dent assessment model developed at FTL. The objective of this project is to develop a rapid dent life expectancy characterization technique based upon dent geometry, line pressure history and line pipe material properties. This paper will outline the general characterization approach being considered and demonstrate some of the observed and expected relationships between service life and dent geometry. The relative importance of each dent characteristic (geometric measures, line pipe material and line pressure history) will be discussed to demonstrate the potential of the rapid characterization approach being developed.

Abstract:
Enbridge Pipelines Inc. owns and operates the world’s longest hydrocarbon transmission system, which traverses across the varying geophysical landforms of Canada and the United States. These pipelines range in diameter from 12” to 48” and were constructed between 1950 and 2003. The wide range of pipe sizes, practices used for construction, and landforms traversed result in a very challenging Dent Management Program. Standards such as CSA Z662-99, ASME B31.4, and B31.8 provide a criterion for the selection of dents that require repair. Experience has shown that these standards do not identify all dents that have a possibility of failure due to leak or rupture. Enbridge initiated a project to study dents with BMT Fleet Technology of Kanata Ontario, this study determined that the dent geometry in addition to the depth to pipe diameter ratio affects the propensity that a dent will fail. Recent research and development by a group sponsored project lead by BMT Fleet technology on dent characterization has combined the pipeline’s cyclic pressure history with the shape of the dent to predict a time to failure. Enbridge combines these tools along with new insights from field excavations into its Dent Management Program. The Dent Management Program includes a series of prioritization’s to determine which sections of pipelines require detailed dent analysis. Typical prioritization criteria are rocky terrain, larger occurrence of third party damage, and history of numerous dents or failures. The detailed analysis utilizes the BMT Fleet “Dent Characterization Criteria” which was developed using their Finite Element Dent Assessment Model. This model considers the geometry of the dent, pipe material properties and historical pressure data to predict a time to failure for each dent. This time to failure prediction requires some additional engineering analysis depending on how close the parameters of the actual pipe are to what was validated with the model. This engineering analysis will determine which dents are selected for excavation and examination. This model has provided Enbridge with a tool to better manage its dent program, and this will be proposed as an option to improve the existing standards.

Abstract:
External interference on gas and oil transmission pipelines is consistently reported as leading cause of leaks in Europe and USA as identified in the EGIG and PHMSA incident databases. External interference due to ground working machinery strikes, rock strikes during backfilling, etc. on buried pipelines result mainly in dent and gouge defects. The long-term integrity of a pipeline segment damaged by a dent and gouge defect is a complex function of a variety of parameters, including pipe material properties, pipe geometry, defect geometry linked to indenter shape, aggression conditions. The complexity and extreme variability of these dent and gouge defect shapes and pipe materials lead simple assessment models to scattered predictions, hinting towards an insufficient description of real structural and material behavior. To improve knowledge beyond the numerous studies led in the past, and to provide a sound foundation for developing and validating mechanistic models for predicting burst and fatigue strength of such defects, a large experimental program was funded by PRCI and US DoT and further coordinated with a complementary EPRG program. The experimental program part dealing with combined “Dent and Gouge” defects is covered for modern pipes (24″ OD, X52 and X70) by PRCI project MD-4-1: realistically created (with a Pipe Aggression Rig) defects submitted to full scale burst and fatigue tests, in addition to extensive characterization. This work interfaces with modeling to predict the immediate burst strength and fatigue resistance of such damage in two PRCI projects denoted MD-4-3 and MD-4-4 respectively. This paper gives an overview of some of these activities: PRCI project MD-4-1 results: material characterization, full scale burst and fatigue tests on Dents with Gouges, as well as detailed explanations concerning the initial approach to model burst and fatigue life of these defects, as developed byr PRCI project MD-4-4. The final outcome of the expected knowledge improvements about the mechanical strength of dent and gouge combinations will be applicable by pipeline operators, in order to enhance integrity management systems designed to manage the threat associated with mechanical damage.

Abstract:
Enbridge Pipelines Inc. operates the world’s longest and most complex liquids pipeline network. As part of Enbridge’s Integrity Management Program In-Line Inspections have been and will continue to be conducted on more than 15,000 km of pipeline. The Inspection Programs have included using the most technologically advanced geometry tools in the world to detect geometrical discontinuities such as ovality, dents, and buckles. During the past number of years, Enbridge Pipelines Inc. has been involved in developing a method of evaluating the suitability of dents in pipelines for continued service. The majority of the work involved the development of a method of modeling the stresses within a dent using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The development and validation of this model was completed by Fleet Technology Limited (FTL) through several projects sponsored by Enbridge, which included field trials and comparisons to previously published data. This model combined with proven fracture mechanics theory provides a method of determining a predicted life of a dent based on either the past or future operating conditions of the pipeline. CSA Standard Z662 – Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems provides criteria for the acceptability of dents for continued service. There have been occurrences, however, where dents that meet the CSA acceptability criteria have experienced failure. The dent model is being used to help define shape characteristics in addition to dent depth, the only shape factor considered by CSA, which contribute to dent failure. The dent model has also been utilized to validate the accuracy of current In-Line Inspection techniques. Typically a dent will lose some of its shape as the overburden is lifted from the pipeline and after the indentor is removed. Often there can be a dramatic “re-rounding” that will occur. The work included comparing the re-rounded dent shapes from a Finite Element model simulating the removal of the constraint on the pipe to the measured dent profile from a mold of the dent taken in the field after it has been excavated. This provided a measure of the accuracy of the tool. This paper will provide an overview of Enbridge’s dent management program, a description of the dent selection process for the excavation program, and a detailed review of the ILI validation work.

Full text
Abstract:
Pipeline industry and various research organizations have been undertaking studies to understand how the pressure strength of line pipes reduces as the defects in the line pipes grow. Defect in pipe lines can be in the form of corrosion, dent, wrinkle, gouge, crack, and combinations of these. A large number of studies have been completed in developing methods for determining the pressure strength of line pipes with dent and gouge defects and also in the form of combined dent-gouge defect. Some of these studies were undertaken with the intention of determining the pressure strength of line pipes when a combined dent and crack (dent-crack) defect has formed. However, in these studies no cracks were simulated in the test pipe specimens; instead, a gouge (machined cut or notch) was produced and considered as a crack. Therefore, it is not realistic to call this defect a dent-crack defect; rather, it should be called dent-gouge defect. Hence, the current project is being undertaken at the University of Windsor to study how the dent-crack defect influences the pressure strength of line pipes. In this study, a crack in true sense was introduced in the pipe wall. Two different techniques were used to simulate the crack in the pipe wall. This paper discusses the procedures used in this study to simulate crack and dent. In addition, the test procedure and test data obtained from denting and pressure tests are discussed.

Abstract:
