Abstract:

Background: The cause of delay in obtaining a dental care definitely depends on the individual’s anxiety status at a dental set up. Anxiety is a state of delirium experienced by an individual. Nevertheless, this feeling of discomfort may hamper the quality of life of an individual.

Objectives:To assess the degree of dental anxiety and to assess the reason for dental anxiety

Methods: A total of 950 participants were enrolled into the present study. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of two parts; the first part composed of items on demographic characteristics of the patient, and the second part included a questionnaire consisting of combination of Corah’s Dental Anxiety Scale and Dental Fear Survey.

Results: In a total sample of 872 patients, 538 individuals were dentally anxious (mean DAS >9) of which 495 patients had a mean score of 9-12 (Mildly anxious); 30 patients had a mean score of 13-15 (Moderately anxious). Only a few subjects (13) were highly anxious (mean DAS > 15). When individual situation of anxiety was assessed, the population noted highest anxiety on feeling or seeing the anaesthetic needle followed by feeling of the vibrations of the drill and being seated in a dental chair.

Conclusion: As dental anxiety is a continuum, where to place the cut-off point is a crucial issue in research, which aims to compare

subjects fearful of dentistry with those who are not. The validity of many measures has not been adequately assessed, perhaps because of the difficulty of identifying an external referent against which it may be tested. Evidence in the form of behavioral, physiological or

cognitive characteristics should be considered to manage these dentally anxious individuals effectively in the dental office.

Abstract:
Dental and oral health care is the primary role and authority of the Dental and Oral Therapist. This study aims to develop a dental and oral health care model for patients in the dental polyclinic of Raden Mattaher Hospital. This quantitative study used an applied research design to develop a model of dental and oral health care. Eleven dental nurses were involved as informants, and three dentists as key informants. This research was conducted at the dental polyclinic of the Jambi Provincial Hospital from March to November 2022. The data were obtained through interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), observations, and trials of the draft model of the patient's dental health examination. Furthermore, a trial of the dental health care model was carried out on people with a mental health conditions. The total score on the questionnaire results of the HELISIDI dental and oral health care model was 546, with a presentation of 76% based on the eligibility criteria. These results mean that the HELISIDI Model is eligible but with revisions. The total score for the HELISIDI dental and oral health care status card was 546, with a presentation of 87% based on the eligibility criteria. According to the respondent, the HELISIDI Status Card is eligible but with revisions. After revision, the model and the HELISIDI status card were declared eligible without further revision. The model of dental and oral health care for patients at the dental clinic of Raden Mattaher Hospital is suitable for mental patients.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTOral health is an important part of an individual's overall health; however, dental care is not included in the Canadian public healthcare system. Many Canadians struggle to access dental care, and six million Canadians avoid visiting the dentist each year due to cost.1 The most vulnerable groups include children from low-income families, low-income adults, seniors, indigenous communities, and those with disabilities.1–5 The lack of affordable, equitable, and accessible dental care puts undue strain on emergency departments across the country, as patients desperately seek the care of a physician when they actually need the care of a dental professional.6 Emergency physicians do not have the same expertise or equipment as dentists and, in most cases, are only able to provide temporary symptom relief. This results in an increased reliance on prescription opioids that would otherwise be unnecessary if patients could access the dental care they required.
