We give a minimum degree condition sufficient to ensure the existence of a fractionalKr-decomposition in a balancedr-partite graph (subject to some further simple necessary conditions). This generalizes the non-partite problem studied recently by Barber, Lo, Kühn, Osthus and the author, and the 3-partite fractionalK3-decomposition problem studied recently by Bowditch and Dukes. Combining our result with recent work by Barber, Kühn, Lo, Osthus and Taylor, this gives a minimum degree condition sufficient to ensure the existence of a (non-fractional)Kr-decomposition in a balancedr-partite graph (subject to the same simple necessary conditions).

The reviewed university course represents a real successful didactic work of the author and was published by Lumen Publishing House from Iași, in 2016. From the beginning of the review, it is worth noting that the analysis of the course shows an essential conclusion, namely that the paper is an indispensable tool for students / masters / doctoral students, but also for all categories of legal practitioners, offering the advantage of an absolutely necessary update of criminal law, by reference to the most recent legislation into force.

Real-world relations are often represented as bipartite networks, such as paper-author networks and event-attendee networks. Extracting dense subnetworks (communities) from bipartite networks and evaluating their qualities are practically important research topics. As the attempts for evaluating divisions of bipartite networks, Guimera and Barber propose bipartite modularities. This paper discusses the properties of these bipartite modularities and proposes another bipartite modularity that allows one-to-many correspondence of communities of different vertex types.

The cirri of the digital tentacles ofNautilus pompiliusare covered by annular ridges, more pronounced on the oral (adhesive) than the aboral side. On the oral side the epithelium is thicker on the proximal and outer surfaces of the ridges than on their distal surfaces. Prominent electron-dense granules occur in the cells of the thick epithelium, but are absent from the thin epithelium and the epithelium of the aboral surface. These granules contain mucopolysaccharide and may be responsible for adhesion.The digital tentacles ofNautilusare used for attachment to, for example, prey, the substratum, or the partner's shell during mating. Their general structure and histology have been described by Owen (1832), Willey (1898), Barber & Wright (1969), Fukuda (1987) and Kier (1987). The mechanism of adhesion is still uncertain. Barber & Wright (1969) report epithelial cells of two types: pigmented cells containing pigment granules 0–5–1 µm in diameter, interspersed with a small number of mucus-producing cells which may help with the adhesive process.

Il comble done l'écart entre deux domaines de recherche non encore relies. Le premier domaine constitue le territoire des psychologues de la cognition et du vieillissement et concerne la façon dont le fonctionnement cognitif et communicatifse modifie auec les étapes de la vie. Le deuxième résulte des travaux des spécialistes de la méthodologie de recherche et des psychologues socio-cognitifs et concerne le fonctionnement cognitif et communicatif sur lequel repose les déclarations des sujets. Ces travaux présentent un intérêt indéniable pour les gérontologues qui se fient sur les déclarations des sujets de recherche dans l'établissement de leurs conclusions. En sachant de quelle façon les déclarations sont influencées par les changements cognitifs reliés à l'âge, il devient possible de modifier les modalités de collecte de données pour répondre aux besoins des répondants plus âgés. Il pourrait également devenir possible d'interpréter les données avec plus de précision.Ce livre est excellent. Il est écrit dans un langage accessible au profane, va droit au but et la grande majorité du contenu présente une qualité indéniable. Les chercheurs le trouveront précieux étant donné qu'il contient une grande quantité de suggestions de sondages et de conseils sur la conception et l'administration de questionnaires. De plus, plusieurs chapitres contiennent des idées de recherches intéressantes.

The presence of women in the business of printing and trading books during the Renaissance has not been so far the subject of systematic studies aimed at ascertaining women’s actual role in the management of printing works and publishing enterprises. Yet there is ample evidence of women’s active presence in book-related professions, which widens the interpretative horizons as regards the working contexts, the strategies, the networks of professional and personal relationships in which they acted as protagonists, sidekicks, or capable and trustworthy collaborators overshadowed by fathers, husbands or other male figures. The above-mentioned evidence, retrieved from archives and libraries, has provided the basis for a process of in-depth investigation of three female figures who played essential roles in running their family-owned printing and publishing enterprises in Sixteenth-Century Lyon: Jeanne Giunta, Sibylle de La Porte, Denise Barbou. This study scrutinizes not only the lives of these remarkable women, but also the characteristics of their publishing activity, the iconographic apparatuses and the publishers’ devices in the printed volumes, the printing privileges, the published authors. The annals of these women publishers are provided at the end of the chapters devoted to each one of them. The emerging picture, albeit limited in scope and needing further investigation, highlights not only the personal commitment of these women but also their uncommon entrepreneurial skills.

This chapter examines the role played by woodcutters, carpenters, cabinetmakers, and stonemasons in St. Louis during its earliest years, 1766–1770. Charles E. Peterson, one of the founding fathers of preservation architecture in the United States, wrote three seminal pieces about colonial architecture in the middle Mississippi Valley. Since Peterson, however, there has been no comprehensive study on Illinois Country architecture. Drawing largely on extant manuscripts in the archives of the Missouri History Museum, this chapter compares St. Louis's early buildings with those in other Illinois Country communities (Kaskaskia and Ste. Genevieve), those on the Gulf Coast, and those in French Canada. It also looks at a number of prominent woodworkers in early St. Louis, including Jacques Denis and Pierre Lupien dit Baron. Finally, it considers some of the features of Illinois Country houses and the materials used in their construction, primarily timber.

This text is grounded in Barba’s lived experience as a dancer trained in Quito and Brussels. He begins by examining an instance in which a dance is said to look old-fashioned even though it has been recently created. When this judgment occurs across continental boundaries, Barba notes that from a Eurocentric and historicist perspective, working outside the parameters of the so-called centers for contemporary dance can be perceived as traveling back in time. This dismissal of a particular dance, or even of an entire dance tradition, as not really contemporary when identified from within the borders of European modernity is examined and questioned. To navigate through the varied hetero-temporalities enacted in and through different geo-cultural locations, the concepts of historicism (Dipesh Chakrabarty), denial of coevalness (Johannes Fabian), and temporal discrimination (Rolando Vázquez) are applied to this situation of dance and danced reenactment.

This critical analysis of Barbra Streisand looks past the mainstream show-business principal to deconstruct an artist who is in fact a revolutionary figure. Streisand pioneered an intense and even passionate singing style at odds with the once prevailing easy-listen manner typified by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Like Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson, she was one of the new wave actors of the 1960s who broke away from the standard models for movie stars. But Streisand has much greater range than others of this kind, as comfortable in musical comedy as in serious drama. She can play the madcap Fanny Brice and Dolly, the politically intense heroine of The Way We Were, the sexually abused daughter who becomes a prostitute and a murderer in Nuts, the cross-dressing Yentl who seeks the liberty that men take for granted and women are denied. Streisand has been, in all, an invigorating artist, not only unique but extraordinary. It would be impossible to imagine what American culture would have been like without her.

Neste Volume 2 da obra “Antologia da pandemia: vivências e percepções de acadêmicos de medicina sobre a COVID-19”, começo este prefácio, novamente, com um desabafo: como docente de um curso médico, jamais imaginei que poderia ministrar aulas sobre uma pandemia “em tempo real”, presenciando seus acontecimentos e vivenciando as experiências de quem se encontra em um momento histórico da humanidade. Os vírus são os responsáveis pelo maior número de doenças infecciosas mundialmente, podendo ser transmitidos através de diversas formas. No final do ano de 2019, a China se deparou com uma nova infecção viral que não tardou em se espalhar pelo mundo, assumindo caráter pandêmico, oficialmente decretado pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) em 11 de março de 2020. O novo vírus, hoje denominado de SARS-CoV-2, é causador de uma infecção que pode ser fatal – a COVID-19. A pandemia de COVID-19 impôs ao mundo novos hábitos, na tentativa de controlar da transmissão viral e diminuir o número de casos da doença. Uma dessas grandes mudanças ocorreu na educação, quando escolas e universidades precisaram se adequar ao sistema de ensino remoto. No contexto pandêmico, foi ofertada a disciplina de Virologia Médica aos alunos do terceiro semestre do curso de Medicina da Universidade Estadual do Ceará. Dentre os inúmeros vírus previstos no programa da disciplina, estava a família Coronaviridae, contemplando o vírus recém-descoberto. Diferente dos demais patógenos a serem estudados, não havia livro suficientemente atualizado para falar sobre o SARS-CoV-2. É... Estávamos de fato dentro da história, uma história que somente aparecerá em livros daqui a algum tempo. A aula sobre a família Coronaviridae transformou-se, então, em um grande diálogo e discussão sobre a atual situação sanitária mundial. Na ocasião, surgiu a ideia de oportunizar aos alunos documentarem suas percepções e vivências sobre a pandemia construindo relatos pessoais. A partir do projeto realizado na disciplina, surgiu o primeiro “Antologia da pandemia: vivências e percepções de acadêmicos de medicina sobre a COVID-19”, lançado, de modo on line, no dia 11 de março de 2021, em alusão a 01 ano da declaração da pandemia pela OMS. A obra encontra-se disponível no site desta editora e conta com 30 textos escritos voluntariamente pelos alunos que cursaram o terceiro semestre do curso médico na UECE no período letivo de 2020.1. Após esta experiência, vários alunos de distintos semestres do curso demonstraram interesse em também relatar suas experiências no contexto pandêmico. Então, com a ajuda da aluna Sandriele Santos Barbosa, mobilizamos os interessados e obtivemos a participação de mais 26 alunos, os quais são autores das produções apresentadas neste Volume 2. Mais uma vez, agradeço a cada aluno que compreendeu a importância de registrar sua percepção como futuro médico e dedicar-se a refletir sobre este momento sanitário histórico para o mundo. A docência pode ultrapassar o limite da sala de aula, quer física ou virtual, e proporcionar experiências que contribuam para a formação pessoal, além da profissional, dos acadêmicos. Assim, este não se trata de um livro técnico. Trata-se de um documento que contém vivências reais e pessoais de pacientes, parentes de pacientes ou observadores que um dia estarão integrando a chamada “linha de frente” de combate a doenças como a COVID-19. Aproveitem a leitura para boas reflexões!

A obra em questão, contém nove artigos, voltados para a pesquisa no âmbito das Ciências Sociais. De modo geral, o Estado, sua ausência, ou ainda, questionamentos sobre a atuação do mesmo, está presente em quase todos os capítulos. Entretanto, com um olhar mais apurado, é possível identificar especificidades. Nesse sentido, os artigos selecionados, difundem temas voltados aos mais diversos enfoques, como por exemplo, o Desenvolvimento econômico e desigualdades sociais, Saúde e Estado e a Ação Coletiva. No tema Desenvolvimento econômico, desigualdades sociais e violência, destacam-se três capítulos. O primeiro, “A política econômica do governo Lula: uma análise do I plano de aceleração do crescimento”, de autoria de Nelson Calsavara Garcia Junior, apresenta uma reconstituição da política econômica adotada, como também, tece uma análise do I PAC, colocado em prática no início do segundo mandato desse governo, com vistas à promoção do crescimento e o desenvolvimento econômico. Dividido em quatro partes, o capítulo também contextualiza o cenário político da época. No capítulo seguinte, “Aspectos da prostituição feminina de rua na cidade de Ribeirão Preto/SP: desigualdades, violências e subcidadania”, elaborado por Eulália Fabiano, o foco é revelar, por meio de uma pesquisa empírica, quais são as características do grupo social que essas mulheres pertencem. Contando com três partes, o capítulo ainda traz à tona, as vulnerabilidades econômico-sociais a que o grupo em estudo estava exposto, como a violência e a exploração econômica, mesmo que a localidade escolhida, seja uma referência econômica no país. Para completar esse tema, “Violência doméstica e a busca da ruptura”, da autora Maria Rozilda Barbosa do Nascimento, analisa as percepções de mulheres em situação de violência doméstica egressas na Casa Abrigo Mãe da Mata em Rio Branco, no estado do Acre. Para tanto, o capítulo dispõe de quatro partes e busca compreender, como a intervenção estatal, colaborou para transformar essas vidas. Outra tema em destaque, é a Saúde, onde brilham dois capítulos. O primeiro, “A saúde indígena e as políticas da vida: discussões entre direito e interculturalidade”, de autoria de Fabiana Leticia Sbaraini, expõe o papel exercido pelo Estado e as políticas da vida que modelaram a vida indígena como uma sub-humanidade. Contendo cinco partes, o artigo ainda ressalta a necessidade do estabelecimento de reflexões, para reconhecer diversidades étnicas e culturais que reverberam na saúde indígena. Já no próximo capítulo, “Cirurgia estética e as transformações corporais na contemporaneidade”, elaborado por Áurea Regina Silva Nunes Santos, foca na investigação dos motivos que levam as pessoas a buscarem esses procedimentos, para modificarem seus corpos. O capítulo conta com três partes, para ainda, abordar a percepção das pessoas, antes e depois das cirurgias estéticas. O tema que encerra o livro é Estado e a Ação Coletiva, onde se sobressaem, quatro capítulos. No primeiro, “Segurança pública e pesquisa de vitimização”, o autor Denis Berté Sálvia apresenta um levantamento das pesquisas de vitimização, a nível nacional e internacional, para analisar os arranjos institucionais utilizados. Esse capítulo contém cinco partes, que buscam o entendimento se tais arranjos, agregam valor e contribuem para a produção regular desses tipos de pesquisas. No capítulo seguinte, “Polícia Comunitária em Mato Grosso: tensão entre estado e sociedade”, o autor Sebastião Carlos Rodrigues da Silva, propõe a análise da implantação do projeto de Polícia Comunitária em Cuiabá, com o objetivo de identificar a participação da sociedade, e, se existem as pré-condições para realização do projeto. Esse capítulo possui cinco partes, e ainda, busca revelar o grau de adequação entre os pré-requisitos da Polícia Comunitária e o grau de civismo da sociedade em questão. Já no terceiro capítulo, “Emergencialismo e autoritarismo: um breve ensaio sociológico sobre a investigação criminal”, os autores João Vitor Gomes Pinto e Déborah Dáfne Farias Bigue apresentam uma análise onde o investigado, durante a fase investigativa, é objeto da ação estatal e não sujeito de direitos. O ensaio contém quatro partes, buscando explicar e categorizar o direito penal aplicado, com a utilização das lições de campo bourdieusiano e com a concepção harbermasiana de discurso punitivo. Por fim, o capítulo “Gramsci e Melucci: um diálogo possível para se pensar uma análise da ação coletiva”, da autora Rafaela de Melo Vasconcellos, traz ao debate, uma discussão teórica desses dois pensadores, no que diz respeito, a ação coletiva e aos movimentos sociais. AbstractOne of the surprising facts in our present understanding of the development of the Universe is the complete absence of “primordial” antimatter from the Big Bang about 13.7 billion years ago. The detection of charged cosmic-ray particles by magnetic spectrometers borne by balloons, satellites, and the space shuttle has shown no evidence for such primordial (high-energy) antibaryons; nor has the search for gamma rays from antimatter–matter annihilation yielded any such observation. In the early phases of the expanding Universe, a hot (1032 K) and dense plasma of quarks, antiquarks, leptons, antileptons and photons coexisted in equilibrium. This plasma expanded and cooled down, and matter and antimatter could recombine and annihilate into photons. If all interactions were symmetric with respect to matter and antimatter, and if baryon and lepton numbers were conserved, then all particles would finally convert to photons, and the expansion of the Universe would shift the wavelength of these photons to the far infrared region.

Although the family’s movements within social hierarchy between 1526 and 1626 were multiple and complex, one turning point was particularly decisive, both for Matthieu and his future son François. It occurred in 1529, when Matthieu, aged perhaps about 6, left his birthplace of Saint-Denis and the barber-surgeon milieu in which he had always lived, going to study in Paris at the Collège du Cardinal Lemoine at the instigation of his distant relative François Vatable, who may earlier have undergone a similar social transformation himself. Matthieu became a Calvinist scholar, Professor of Philosophy, and chronologer. His representations, private or public, of his and his family’s social status attribute differing degrees of importance to it. The sharpness of the rupture with his early life seems to have enhanced his sense that his family, or part of it, stood out in a divine hierarchy, since it had been chosen by God for special scholarly purposes.

This chapter concerns anatomist Marie-Marguerite Biheron, who analyzed the human body, taking it apart in countless dissections to elucidate the hidden internal structures. It examines Biheron's “anatomie artificielle” that she fashioned, displayed, and taught with for decades in her private home museum. The chapter also looks at her models, made from a formula of her own invention that neither melted nor broke, which were said to imitate the human body with consummate precision. It reviews Biheron's study and dissection of actual corpses, too numerous to count and ongoing over decades, then mentions the first of three widely and wildly heralded anatomical demonstrations in the Académie des Sciences. The chapter then shifts to track how she grew up in the healing culture and forged her own independent but related medical path. Ultimately, the chapter examines the roles played by the renowned surgeon Sauveur Morand, gifted botanist and botanical illustrator Mlle Basseporte, philosopher Denis Diderot and the eclectic doctor Jacques Barbeu Dubourg in her study of human anatomy with the emphasis on modeling.

Chapters 20–23 are a case study of the family that changed its name over the generations from Brouart to Beroald to Verville. In 1626 the prolific author François Béroalde de Verville died in Tours. He was a medical practitioner and a former cathedral canon. His name and social status had varied throughout his life. One hundred years earlier, in 1526, his paternal grandfather had died some 150 miles away in Saint-Denis, to the north of Paris. Originally from Brussels, he had been a barber-surgeon. Significantly, he had a simpler name, Simon Brouart. Grandson and grandfather never met. Indeed, the one was not born until thirty years after the other died. Their social status differed greatly, and they inhabited vastly different worlds, separated by the advent of humanism, that of the Reformation, and much else. Of the various factors that transformed this family’s social status, the most decisive were learning and literature.

This chapter focuses on the informative fossils left from a time when the universe was very different from now, dense and hot enough to produce the light elements and the sea of thermal radiation that nearly uniformly fills space. It begins by reviewing the behavior of a sea of microwave radiation in an expanding universe. The chapter then considers how George Gamow and his colleagues, Ralph Alpher and Robert Herman, hit on the main elements of the hot big bang cosmology, including the sea of microwave radiation and the large helium abundance, but failed to capture the interest of the community. It assesses how it came to be seen that the abundance of helium is much larger than expected from production in stars but is readily understood as the result of thermonuclear reactions in the hot big bang cosmology. This attracted little attention prior to the recognition of a second fossil: the sea of microwave radiation. The chapter concludes with the steps to a persuasive measurement of the primeval abundance of deuterium and the implied baryon mass density.

There is ample evidence that a progressive change in the intensity of an important environmental factor leads to the formation of zones or belt-like communities in which the plant species reflect a fairly distinct range of tolerance for that factor (Daubenmire 1968). Zonation has been defined as a sequence of vegetation in space and succession as a sequence of vegetation in time (McIntosh 1980). A zone is an area occupied by a plant community that is distinctly different from other zones and can be readily recognized by a change in dominant vegetation. Striking examples of zonation are found in salt marshes, mountain slopes and ponds because of soil salinity in salt marshes, decrease in temperature on mountain slopes and increase in water depth in ponds (Daubenmire 1968; Chapman 1976; Partridge and Wilson 1988). Similarly, it has long been known (Beck 1819) that sand dunes along sea coasts exhibit a zonation pattern extending from the beach to inland dunes. The zones are discrete and occur in parallel series with distinctly different species composition that is related to the ability of plant species to withstand the environmental factors prevailing in that zone (Doing 1985). Many later studies using transects from the shoreline to the inland dunes have confirmed that the taxa are not randomly distributed; they peak at definite distances from the beach (Oosting and Billings 1942; Boyce 1954; Martin 1959; Barbour 1978; Barbour et al. 1985). Succession in coastal dunes is an example of primary succession because the sandy material deposited on the shoreline by waves is inert. The term is generally used to denote a directional change in species composition and physiognomy of vegetation at the same site over time (Drury and Nisbet 1973). However, only the very early stages of dune succession can be observed during the life time of a plant ecologist and the later stages are usually inferred from plant communities represented on older sand dunes. It is hypothesized that the autogenic influence of early colonizers alters environmental conditions in the habitat and facilitates the establishment of new species better adapted to live in the altered habitat.

The United States is the second largest citrus producer in the world. Florida and California are the two major producing states. While oranges from California are mainly used for fresh fruit consumption, more than 90% of oranges produced in Florida are processed to juice (FAO 2008). Consumers demand high quality and convenient products with natural flavor and taste, and appreciate the “fresh” perception of minimally processed juices. They also look for safe, natural, and healthy products without additives and preservatives. New processing technologies promise to meet all these demands without compromising food safety. Commercial orange juice is thermally processed to inactivate pectinesterase (PE) and spoilage organisms. Active PE causes clarification of orange juice by cloud loss, which is considered a quality defect (Boff et al. 2003). Thermal processing can be detrimental to the organoleptic and nutritional qualities of the juice (Sloan 1995), so the development of non-thermal technologies (Barbosa-Canovas et al. 1998) is desirable in the citrus juice industry. Dense phase carbon dioxide (DPCD) is a non-thermal technology that can inactivate certain micro-organisms and enzymes at temperatures low enough to avoid the thermal effects of traditional pasteurization. This technology relies on the chemical effect of CO2 on micro-organisms and enzymes. DPCD pasteurization technology is commercially available. Most of the commercialization efforts so far have been from Praxair Inc. (Burr Ridge, IL). Based on technology licensed from the University of Florida (Balaban et al. 1988, 1998), Praxair developed a continuous system which uses the DPCD process as a non-thermal alternative to thermal pasteurization (Connery et al. 2005). This system has been commercialized under the Trade Mark “Better Than Fresh (BTF).” To date, Praxair has constructed four mobile BTF units for processing about 1.5 liters per minute for demonstration purposes. In addition, a commercial scale unit of 150 liters per minute was also constructed (Connery et al. 2005) and tested at an orange juice processing plant in Florida. There are other commercialization efforts. The excellent taste of the juice processed with this new technology was demonstrated in three independent sensory panels that compared juice treated with this system to that of fresh squeezed juice. In all the tests, no difference could be detected. It is important that CO2 is completely saturated in the juice if DPCD is to be successful. Saturation (equilibrium solubility) depends on the pressure, temperature, and composition of the juice. Until recently, the exact amount of CO2 to be used in DPCD processing was unknown since solubility data was unavailable at different pressures, temperatures, and juice compositions, and an excess amount was used. To optimize the use of CO2 in this non-thermal process, new equipment has been developed to measure the solubility of CO2 in liquid systems and juices. The objective of this paper is to present a general review of the applications of DPCD to citrus juices and to introduce the use of new equipment developed at the University of Florida to determine the solubility of CO2 in citrus juices. Abstract Zirconia (ZrO2) coating formed by plasma spray method is widely used industrially as a thermal barrier coating (TBC). But it has still problems such as spallation and cracks inside the coating. The solution will be given by the development of new spaying processing. The zirconia-alumina (ZrO2-Al2O3) composite coating formed by gas tunnel type plasma spraying has a high hardness layer at the surface side of the coating, which shows the graded functionality of hardness, and is superior as a TBC. In this paper, the performance of such high hardness ZrO2- Al2O3 composite coating was investigated and the merit as TBC was clarified. The Vickers hardness of the high hardness layer near the coating surface increased by the thermal process of high energy plasma, which corresponded to the result that the coating became denser. Also, the effect of alumina mixing was discussed about the microstructure of this composite coating. The combination of high hardness of Al2O3 with the low thermal conductivity of ZrO2 resulted to the development of high performance TBC. The thermal conductivity of such ZrO2- Al2O3 composite coatings was proved to be much smaller than that in the longitudinal direction. Moreover the adhesive strength of such high hardness zirconia composite coatings was investigated as well as its mechanical properties. The adhesive strength of such high hardness coatings to the substrate was weakened as the increase in the coating thickness.

The eBario project has won the eAsia Award and the Mondialogo Engineering Award in 2004 and 2005 respectively for it’s successful implementation of an Information and Telecommunications Technology Center (ICT) and solar renewable energy-incentive rural community project at the Bario Highland of Sarawak, East Malaysia, Borneo (http://www.unimas.my/ebario/). Although solar photovoltaic (PV) energy has been opted for power generation at the ICT Telecenter for the past five years, there is still a need to investigate the cost-effectiveness of the current energy setup as well as to conduct sustainability study taking into account factors such as system efficiency, weather, costs of fuel, operating costs, as well as to explore the feasibility of implementing alternative energy resources for the rural ICT Telecenter. Recent theoretical study conducted has shown that renewable combined power systems are more sustainable in terms of supplying electricity to the ICT Telecenter, and in a more cost-effective way compared to a standalone PV system which is subject to the cloud and the recent dense haze problems. For that purpose, two combined power systems are being put into consideration namely PV-Hydro and PV-Hydro-Fuel Cell, where the total simulated annualized cost for these two system configurations are US$10,847 and US$76,010 respectively as far as the present location is concerned. The PVHydro-Fuel Cell produces electrical energy at the amount of 3,577 kWh/yr while the annual energy consumption is 3,203 kWhr/yr. On the other hand, PV-Hydro produces 3,789 kWhr/yr of electricity annually load which consumes energy at 3,209 kWhr/yr. Results thus obtained has shown that the PVHydro scheme is expected to have advantages over the existing PV standalone system. Firstly, it is more cost-effective. Secondly, it provides the best outcomes for the local indigenous community and the natural highland environments both for now and the future. Thirdly, it also able to relate the continuity of both economic and social aspects of the local society as a whole. As the combined PV-Hydro system had been chosen, plus for completeness purposes, the present paper also discussed the custom design and construction of a small waterwheel breast-shot hydro-generator, suited to the local location and existing water energy resources. Energy saving design calculations and Sankey diagram showing the energy flows for the new combined system are also given herein. Finally, the energy system performance equations and the performance curves introduced in this study provide a new simple method of evaluating renewable energy systems.

A satisfação com o trabalho possui importante relevância para o bem-estar dos colaboradores e consequentemente proporciona melhor desempenho em suas atividades. Alguns autores consideram que para se ter noção adequada de como mensurá-la deve-se analisar a relação do colaborador com alguns fatores, dentre os quais sempre são estudados pela literatura da área e por isso escolhidos para compor esse trabalho: a natureza e condições do trabalho, salário, sistema de promoções de cargo, equipe de trabalho e o superior imediato. Neste sentido, o presente estudo buscou avaliar o nível em que os referidos fatores indicativos de satisfação estão impactando no trabalho de colaboradores de uma rede de padarias em um município do Estado do Ceará – Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se uma pesquisa exploratória descritiva, referenciada com levantamento de dados em campo. Os principais autores pesquisados foram Sarathy e Barbosa(1981), Tamayo (1998), Bergamini(2000), Chiavenato (2002, 2003) e Martinez e Paraguay (2003). Os resultados demonstraram que quanto às dimensões natureza do trabalho, superior imediato e equipe de trabalho, no local pesquisado, a avaliação foi muito positiva, enquanto as dimensões ascensão de cargo e remuneração demonstraram uma média satisfação e, havendo neles a possibilidade de avaliação por parte da empresa. Os resultados das dimensões são coerentes com os dados encontrados na avaliação geral com os indicadores de qualidade de vida.

The DOE Office of Nuclear Energy and Sandia National Labs are investigating supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles as a potentially more efficient and compact power conversion system for advanced nuclear reactors, and other heat sources including solar, geothermal, and fossil or bio fuel systems. The focus of this work is on the supercritical CO2 Brayton cycle which has the potential for both high efficiency, in temperature range (400–750 C), and for reduced capital costs due to very compact turbomachinery. The cycle achieves high efficiency due to the non-ideal behavior of supercritical CO2, and it achieves extremely high power density because the fluid in the turbomachinery is very dense, 10%–60% the density of water. Sandia and its contractor Barber Nichols Inc. have fabricated and are operating a supercritical CO2 (S-CO2) compression test-loop to investigate the key technology issues associated with this cycle. The compression loop is part of a multi-year phased development program to develop a megawatt (MW) heater-class closed S-CO2 Brayton cycle to demonstrate the applicability of this cycle to heat sources above 400 C. Other portions of the program include modifications to the compression loop to operate it as a simple heated Brayton loop by adding a small turbine and a heater, but with no recuperator. The early testing of this simple Brayton cycle is under way. A more ambitious effort is currently constructing a recompression cycle Brayton loop (1) which is some times called a split-flow Brayton cycle. This cycle is used to increase the efficiency of the system by providing large amounts of recuperation using printed circuit heat exchangers. The re-compression (or split-flow) Brayton cycle is designed to operate at 1000 F (538 C) and produce up to 250 kWe with a 1.47″ OD radial compressor and a 2.68″ OD radial turbine. The current compression loop uses a main compressor that is identical to the main compressors in all the Brayton cycles that are being developed at Sandia. The key issues for the supercritical Brayton cycle include the fundamental issues of compressor fluid performance and system control near the critical point. Near the critical point very non ideal fluid behavior is observed which means that standard tools for analyzing compressor performance cannot be used. Thus one of the goals of the program is to develop data that can be used to validate the tools and models that are used to design the turbomachinery. Other supporting technology issues that are essential to achieving efficiency and cost objectives include bearing type, thrust load and thrust load balancing, bearing cooling, sealing technologies, and rotor windage losses. The current tests are providing the first measurements and information on these important supercritical CO2 power conversion system questions. Some of this data is presented in this report. In the testing to date, the turbomachinery has reached maximum speeds of 65,000 rpm, peak flow rates of over 9 lb/s and pressure ratios of just over 1.65. Compressor inlet fluid densities have been varied from 14% to 70% the density of water. Although the data from these tests are only the first results to be analyzed, they indicate that the basic design and performance predictions are sound. The loops have operated the turbo-compressor on the liquid and vapor side of the saturation curve, very near the critical point, above the critical point and even on the saturation dome. We have also operated the compressor near the choked flow regime and even in surge. At the current operating speeds and pressures, the observed performance map data agrees extremely well with the model predictions. These results have positive implications for the ultimate success of the S-CO2 cycle. In general the main compressor shows no adverse behavior while operating over a wide range of normal operating conditions. It operates reliably and with performance values that are very near the predicted results. Future efforts will focus on operating the Brayton cycle loop at sufficiently high temperatures that electrical power can be produced near the end of 2009. The compression-loop hardware is now the test bed for confirming the remaining parameters to support the next stage of development — which is the 1 MW heater-class split-flow or re-compressor Brayton cycle.

Este artigo apresenta uma das ações desenvolvidas pela Célula BIM UFPE. As células BIM são resultado de um edital lançado pelo Ministério da Economia que apresentava como uma de suas sub-metas a “Proposta e instalação de Célula BIM em Instituição de Ensino Superior (IES) visando estimular o desenvolvimento e aplicação de novas tecnologias relacionadas ao Building Information Modeling (BIM)” (Brasil. Ministério da Economia, 2019). O BIM é entendido como um conjunto de políticas, processos e tecnologias que visam produzir, comunicar e analisar a informação da construção. Representando a expressão da inovação na indústria da construção civil, o BIM é tido como um novo conceito em projetos de Arquitetura e Engenharia. Para cursos de graduação nessas áreas, a adoção do BIM é de fundamental importância para a ampliação das competências BIM no setor da Construção Civil (Delatori, 2014). Entretanto, a adequada incorporação dos conteúdos BIM em cursos de graduação deve ser precedida de ações preliminares (BÖES; BARROS; LIMA, 2021), sendo o diagnóstico do projeto pedagógico e, em particular, da matriz curricular, uma delas. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste artigo é apresentar o resultado de um diagnóstico da grade curricular no curso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Este tem como propósito avaliar em que medida os conteúdos BIM podem ser incorporados nas disciplinas do curso.
A análise do Projeto Pedagógico Curricular (PPC) observou a capacidade de incorporar atividades interdisciplinares e práticas pedagógicas e tecnológicas compatíveis com o BIM. A matriz curricular foi analisada tendo por base a metodologia desenvolvida por Checcucci e Amorim (2014), criada para a avaliação de cursos de engenharia civil. Esta foi adaptada por Lima et al (2020) para os cursos de arquitetura e urbanismo. Conforme a metodologia, analisa-se a ementa dos componentes curriculares, classificados segundo os seus conteúdos, conforme as diretrizes nacionais (MINISTÉRIO DA EDUCAÇÃO, 2006). Cada grupo é identificado pelo nível de interface entre o componente curricular e o conteúdo BIM, representados em uma escala cromática: clara, caso não haja interface; média caso a interface não seja tão explícita; escura, caso a interface seja forte. O PPC do curso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) propõe um sistema próprio de classificação e enquadramento das matérias: a) disciplinas instrumentais, referem-se àquelas que apresentam meios e instrumentos práticos para o adequado desenvolvimento de projetos; b) conceituais, as que apresentam, contextualizam e discutem as ideias que instruem as tomadas de decisão; e c) integrativas, as que integram, por meio de problemas de projeto, os conteúdos teórico-práticos necessários ao ato de projetar. Sendo assim, camadas analíticas complementares àquelas adotadas pelos autores citados foram introduzidas para contemplar tais especificidades.
O PPC, por sua concepção estrutural integrativa, mostrou-se compatível com os pressupostos do BIM, pois o conteúdo e os métodos ministrados no curso fornece condições para a implementação de estratégias BIM nas escalas arquitetônica, urbana e paisagística. A matriz curricular do curso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo é extensa, possuindo 173 disciplinas. Isso acontece porque diversas disciplinas possuem uma carga horária que pode ser considerada pequena, de 15 e 30 horas. Dentre as disciplinas oferecidas, verificou-se que 26,01% das disciplinas obrigatórias e 28,73% das eletivas são compatíveis com a inserção de conteúdos BIM. Apesar dessa inserção poder acontecer, de maneira mais teórica, desde o primeiro ano do curso, a maioria delas são oferecidas no segundo e terceiro ano. Em relação às categorias, as disciplinas integrativas e instrumentais são as que mais permitem a inserção do ensino do BIM, sem que seja necessária uma grande alteração das ementas. Diante disso, a inserção do conteúdo BIM na matriz curricular do curso aponta majoritariamente para as disciplinas integrativas e instrumentais. A convergência de conteúdos e métodos no ateliê de projetos, que integra as escalas arquitetônica, urbana e paisagística, estabelece as condições fundamentais para a implementação BIM. Soma-se a isso o fato de que as disciplinas eletivas instrumentais de cada semestre do curso servem de suporte para o desenvolvimento do projeto da disciplina integrativa. A oferta de disciplinas com conteúdo e cargas horárias mínimas, associadas ao uso das pedagogias de aprendizagem baseada em problemas e da sala invertida, criam, em princípio, o ambiente próprio para o aprendizado BIM. No entanto, se matérias e disciplinas apresentam clara interface com o ensino de BIM, sua carga horária, seu enquadramento e sequenciamento no curso podem dificultar o seu ministério.
Assim, se por um lado, os conteúdos específicos associados aos problemas-chave dos anos letivos do curso (reabilitação, renovação, expansão e conservação urbanas) contribuem para a lógica integradora, por outro lado, algumas disciplinas carecem de cargas horárias suficientes para o ministério dos conteúdos. Além disso, a análise dos componentes curriculares à luz da sua interface com os conteúdos específicos associados ao ensino de BIM, revelou a necessidade de serem incluídas camadas analíticas complementares àquelas adotadas pelos referidos autores. Por exemplo, matérias e disciplinas podem ter clara interface com o ensino de BIM, no entanto, questões de enquadramento e sequenciamento no curso podem dificultar ou mesmo impossibilitar o seu ministério, como também as condições.

Este trabalho apresenta as ações realizadas no projeto “Célula BIM na UFBA” durante os primeiros dez meses da pesquisa. Esta Célula integra a “Rede de Células BIM da ANTAC” que objetiva ampliar a adoção do BIM em Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES). Fazem parte do projeto na UFBA 19 pesquisadores, entre docentes e discentes da instituição e convidados externos. Seguindo proposições da Rede da ANTAC, a Célula da UFBA iniciou fazendo um diagnóstico da maturidade BIM da instituição a partir do método proposto por Böes, Barros Neto e Lima (2021), atualizado a partir das discussões da Rede. Em paralelo, foram analisadas as matrizes curriculares dos 3 cursos envolvidos: graduações diurna e noturna em Arquitetura e Urbanismo (AU) e graduação em Engenharia Civil (EC). Para tal foi utilizado o método proposto por Checcucci e Amorim (2014) e também atualizado nas discussões da Rede de Células BIM. Esta análise objetivou identificar interfaces entre os componentes curriculares ofertados e BIM; mapear aqueles com maior interface; e selecionar alguns para iniciar a inserção de BIM na disciplina. Foram escolhidas aquelas que ainda não trabalhavam o tema e cujos professores responsáveis tenham demonstrado interesse em atualizar o curso e participar desta inserção. A proposta é que a intervenção seja incremental, inicialmente sem muitas mudanças na disciplina, mas garantindo o início do trabalho com BIM e aproveitando para capacitar os docentes responsáveis por elas. A intervenção deve ser replicada e ampliada/aprofundada a cada semestre, dentro das possibilidades de cada componente curricular. À medida que os professorem passarem a dominar mais os assuntos envolvidos, os estudantes começarem a estudar o tema em diferentes disciplinas, e iniciarem a desenvolver competências BIM desde o início do curso, as disciplinas de semestres mais avançados podem aprofundar os temas relacionados ao BIM que irão trabalhar. Nas primeiras intervenções todas as disciplinas terão uma aula introdutória sobre BIM e uma aula prática de sua aplicação ao tema discutido da disciplina. Isto foi definido após a constatação de que os docentes das disciplinas com grande interface com BIM, em sua maioria, ainda não conhecem ou dominam o tema e que fazendo uma intervenção pontual e introdutória, a adesão ao projeto era mais efetiva. A Célula BIM também se comprometeu a participar das aulas da intervenção, de modo a apoiar o docente com pelo menos um dos seus membros. Por fim, a Célula BIM também desenvolveu os seguintes materiais didáticos: slides da aula sobre Fundamentos BIM, modelos, adaptação de exercícios existentes, vídeo-tutoriais de softwares BIM. Além disso, foram elaborados formulários de avaliação da intervenção a serem aplicados com os docentes e discentes. Este desenvolvimento foi realizado a partir de discussões com o docente responsável e disponibilizado para ele atualizar e aprimorar em outras versões da disciplina, caso ache conveniente. Ficou também assumido o compromisso do docente em seguir com a adoção do BIM em semestres posteriores à intervenção, independentemente da equipe da Célula BIM, que poderá, no futuro, se dedicar a inserção do BIM em outros componentes curriculares. Algumas das intervenções acontecerão no segundo semestre de 2022 e outras acontecerão em 2023.1.
Podem ser relacionados os principais resultados do projeto até o momento: (a) identificação do índice de maturidade integrado, ou alta maturidade, para os três cursos envolvidos. Isto não significa que são graduações com grande adoção do BIM, mas que já possuem ações relevantes relacionadas a políticas, processos e tecnologias que incentivam o uso do BIM em seus cursos. O modelo de maturidade irá auxiliar no desenvolvimento do Plano de Implantação BIM (PIB) da UFBA na continuação do projeto. O objetivo será propor uma formação em BIM distribuída ao longo de diferentes componentes curriculares, permitindo que o estudante trabalhe o máximo de usos possíveis do BIM nos três estágios (modelagem, colaboração e integração), ainda que de modo introdutório; (b) identificação de 17 componentes curriculares com forte interface com BIM e outros 5 com interfaces possíveis no curso diurno de AU. Destes, foram selecionados inicialmente para intervenção: ARQ 038 – Instalações 1 (instalações elétricas de baixa tensão), ARQ 030 – Conforto Ambiental II e ARQ047 – Laboratório de Conforto I (optativa); (c) identificação de 16 componentes curriculares com forte interface com BIM e outros 15 com interfaces possíveis no curso noturno. Neste curso as intervenções iniciais deverão acontecer em ARQB62 - Oficina de Projeto 1 e nas disciplinas relacionadas ao Conforto Ambiental, aproveitando os materiais produzidos para o curso diurno; (d) identificação de 11 componentes curriculares com forte interface com BIM e outros 21 com interfaces possíveis na graduação em Engenharia Civil. Destes, estão sendo propostas intervenções nas disciplinas ENG 299 – Construções de Aço; ENG300 - Construções de Madeira; ENG 273 - Instalações Hidráulicas e Sanitárias Prediais e ENG003 - Eletricidade (esta irá aproveitar o apoio/material da equipe que está trabalhando ARQ 038 no curso diurno de AU). Já foram contactados docentes de outras disciplinas e o projeto vem, aos poucos, se difundindo nos cursos. Todos três estão passando por reestruturação dos seus projetos pedagógicos, o que se mostrou ser este um ótimo momento para a atuação da Célula BIM.
Como aprendizados iniciais, podem ser citados: necessidade de olhar a matriz curricular junto com as condições do curso (infraestrutura, docentes responsáveis, etc.), para identificar aqueles componentes curriculares com maior chance de sucesso para inserção de BIM; ouvir o docente responsável pela disciplina, procurar conhecer os métodos de ensino-aprendizagem, exercícios e avaliações que utiliza, dentre outras questões específicas de cada disciplina, de modo a fazer uma inserção incremental com apoio deste professor, aproveitando para também capacitá-lo em BIM; colocar, na medida do possível, os componentes da Célula como apoio ao professor no início da inserção com o trabalho em BIM; desenvolver materiais didáticos discutindo com o professor responsável que irá utilizá-los, na intervenção e depois dela. O processo proposto pela Rede de Células BIM da ANTAC tem se mostrado bastante assertivo, permitido o desenvolvimento de ações que devem impactar significativamente os cursos envolvidos. Todo o material produzido deverá ser difundido, de modo a colaborar também com a ampliação da adoção do BIM no Brasil.
