Abstract:
Economic development of a country depends significantly on banking services. Banks play a crucial role in the capital formation of an economy. Hence, an evaluation of financial performance of the banking sector is an effective measure and indicator to check the soundness of economic activities of an economy. The performance of banking sector is perceived as the replica of economic activities of the economy. The development of the banking industry is considered as a good reflection of the development of the economy. In this paper I have made an earnest attempt to evaluate the performance of selected public and private sector banks using CAMEL approach and including its two parameters calls for earning and liquidity. The data required for the study are mainly secondary in nature. The data relating to the period of 2010-15 have been collected for the purpose. For this purpose, researcher has collected secondary data of SBI, Dena Bank, BOB, Punjab national Bank, Union bank of India from public sector banks and Axis bank, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank from private sector banks.

Abstract:
Banking Industry in India witnessed a large-scale merger in recent times, which was earlier often sought out solution in the corporates to improve the efficiency and profitability. Bank mergers and acquisitions are more often witnessed across Europe and America. We have witnessed few acquisitions/mergers in the past few decades after liberalization. Present situation of mergers in the Banking Industry is primarily due to the failure of some banks with respect to recovery of loans. This would result in incurring losses and failing to meet the liquidity needs of the deposits side. There have been mergers both in Public Sector Banks and Private Sector Banks. It is also observed that some private banks have been acquired by public sector banks in the interest of depositors and investors. This research paper focuses on and analyses the factors that lead to the merger of Bank of Baroda, E-Vijaya Bank and E-Dena Bank. The possible advantages and disadvantages are inferred. Seven years financial data before the merger decision of the three banks is collected for this analysis. Data analysis is done using the financial tools such as Ratio Analysis and Trend Analysis. Various ratios indicating the health of Advances side of the bank and its profitability are calculated. The trend of NPAs and the recovery patterns are studied. The suitability of merger decision with its after effects are proposed to be concluded.

Abstract:
Government of India with its vision to create globally competitive banks has initiated the consolidation of smaller PSB’s in bigger entities. The merger of five regional banks with State Bank of India and merger of two Public Sector Banks (PSBs) Dena and Vijaya with Bank of Baroda in recent past (2019) followed by mega consolidation plan of merging ten public sector banks into four banks is an indication of direction of the wind is going to blow for Indian banking industry. This policy of consolidation is an important tool used by banks for corporate restructuring and is in line with reformist agenda pursued by Govt of India (GOI) since 1990. These entities are to receive recapitalization funds from GOI to boost their net-worth strengthening their capital base. The present research is conducted to understand the objectives and statistics behind these mergers.

Abstract:
Performance of the economy of any country is largely dependent on the performance of its banking sector. Since, banking sector constitutes a major component of the financial service sector. Soundness of the banking sector is essential for a healthy and vibrant economy. The efficiency, productivity, profitability, stability and a shock free economy is possible only when a country is having a sound and healthy banking sector. The present research work has been undertaken to analyze the soundness of five nationalized banks in India. In order to measure the performances of these banks CAMEL MODEL Approach has been applied, incorporating important parameters like Capital Adequacy, Assets Quality, Management Efficiency, Earnings Quality and Liquidity. The finding of the study shows that Bank of Baroda has been ranked at the top position, the Union Bank of India and Dena Bank secured the 2nd position, the next was the State Bank of India which secured the 4th position and in the last position was the UCO Bank which secured the 5th position. Abstract:
The entrepreneurial role of a manager depends on the entrepreneurial culture. Developing entrepreneurial culture assumes the importance of Human Resource Development (HRD). It is the function of the general climate, development mechanisms and the value base. The present work is based on an indepth study conducted by the author to examine the impact of prevailing entrepreneurial culture in selected Indian Commercial banks. They are: State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB), Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC), and Dena Bank (DB). The entrepreneurial climate leading to entrepreneurial culture has been studied under three broad aspects: (i) general climate, (ii) development mechanisms, and (iii) the value base. The value base forms the main focus of the study. The effectiveness of the value based entrepreneurial culture has been judged in relation to the level of satisfaction enjoyed in all the banks covered under study. The study reveals the existence of an intimate relationship between entrepreneurial culture and employee satisfaction which is supported by the level of mean scores obtained for both the variables in these banks. While the entrepreneurial climate for SBI, PNB, OBC and OB has been estimated at mean score levels of 3.49, 3.41, 3.88 and 2.84 respectively, the corresponding satisfaction level has been calculated at mean scores of 3.84, 3.63, 4.01 and 3.06 for these banks.

Abstract:
The banking industry has been essential to the economy’s development. Mergers and acquisitions are one of the best ways for banks to expand. The government merged banks when banks had more non-performing assets (NPA), less efficiency for work, no global reach, less profitable situation, or had other unimportant features. The government decided to combine three public sector banks in 2019, namely Vijaya Bank, Dena Bank, and Bank of Baroda (BOB). BOB rose to become India’s third-largest bank following the merger. In order to analyze the position of the bank, the study covered various indicators like Gross & Net NPA, operational profit, net profit, capital adequacy ratio (CAR), return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), earning per share (EPS), deposits & advances. Charts are used to analyze these factors, and data from the two years before and two years after the banks’ merger has been used. Secondary sources such as annual reports, websites, various publications, etc. has been used to get the data. After the two-year merger, operating profits rose by 40.11% and 52.96%, while net profits rose by 25.81% and 91.01%, demonstrating improved efficiency. Since gross NPA exceed net NPA, banks had control the NPA such that inefficiency became efficiency. Deposits and advances have both climbed, and the CAR has as well, indicating that there is enough capital on hand to handle losses. Since the merger, EPS, ROA, and ROE have all dramatically increased. According to the study, the bank’s performance of BOB improved after the merger.

Abstract:
It is well known that in conventional three dimensional (3D) Hermitian two band models, the intersections between the energy bands are generically given by points. The typical example are Weyl semimetals, where these singular points can be effectively described as Weyl fermions in the low energy regime. By explicitly imposing discrete symmetries or fine-tuning, the intersection can form higher- dimensional nodal structures, e.g. nodal lines. By instead considering dissipative contributions to such a system, the degeneracies will generically take the form of closed 1D curves, consisting of exceptional points, i.e. points where the Hamiltonian becomes defective. By constructing the Hamiltonian in a particular way, the 1D exceptional curves can host non-trivial topology, i.e. they can form links or knots in the Brillouin zone. In stark contrast to line nodes occurring in Hermitian systems, which inevitably rely on discrete symmetries or fine tuning, the exceptional knots are generically stable towards any small perturbation. In further contrast to point singularities and unknotted circles, the topology of knots cannot be characterized by usual integer valued invariants. Instead, the complexity of the knottedness is captured by polynomial type invariants, making the physical classification and interpretation of these system challenging. To this end, the study of knotted nodal band structures naturally brings two different aspects of topology together – mathematical knot theory on the one hand, and the physical theory of topological phases on the other hand. This licentiate thesis focuses on providing the necessary theoretical background to understand the two accompanying publications entitled Knotted non-Hermitian metals, written by Johan Carlström, together with the author of this thesis, Jan Carl Budich and Emil J. Bergholtz, published in Physical Review B on April 24 2019, and Hyperbolic nodal band structures and knot invariants, written by the author of this thesis, together with Lukas Rødland, Gregory Arone, Jan Carl Budich and Emil J. Bergholtz, published in SciPost Physics August 8 2019. An introduction to gapless topological phases in the Hermitian regime, focusing on Weyl semimetals, their classification and surface states, is provided. Then, the light is brought to non-Hermitian operators and the differences from their conventional Hermitian counterpart, such as the two different set of eigenvectors bi-orthogonal to each other, exceptional eigenvalue degeneracies and some of their consequences, are explained. Afterwards, these operators are applied to dissipative physical system, and some of the striking differences from the conventional Hermitian systems are highlighted, the main focus being the possibly non-trivial topology of the 1D exceptional eigenvalue degeneracies. In order to be somewhat self contained, a brief conceptual introduction to the utilized concepts of knot theory is given, and lastly, further research directions and possible experimental realization of the considered systems are discussed.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the social relationships constituting domestic water management and the use of spring water for irrigation, in the rural village of Wādī Fūkīn (West Bank). It investigates how the dialectics between power strategies exerted through water policies and local resistance practices contribute to define the meaning of community, state and citizenship. The Israeli and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA)’s projects of water modernisation and the intensive farming and irrigation techniques fostered by development actors emerge as techno-politics aimed at creating colonial subjects, farmers or citizens. The analysis of the Israeli water and territory planning brings insights into the theorisation of technical planning as a new dimension of politics of the modern-state. As a response to the Israeli strategies of de-peasantisation and land expropriation, villagers view farming activities as practices of self-representation against the threat of becoming refugees. The study highlights the role of water in the Israeli and Palestinian nation-state construction. The Israeli and the PNA’s ideological constructions of water scarcity – shown as a hybrid socio-natural process – are aimed at ensuring conflicting interests, while legitimising multiple dynamics of domination. Local practices of resistance to the PNA’s water centralisation bring to light that domestic water is a political arena in which the meaning of state and its legitimacy are contested and negotiated between the political elites ruling the PNA, Israel and other local interest groups. The local spring water management reveals that this resource mediates the construction of local dimensions of identification and differentiation shaping the tribal political organisation, which emerges as an idiom of solidarity to struggle for self-determination. This study addresses the important debate about the relationships between the State and tribal political patterns. The adoption of intensive irrigation and farming techniques has contributed to the individualisation of farming and resistance strategies. Donors’ interventions have led to the de-mobilisation of the local community and to the emergence of a new “globalized elite”, amplifying dynamics of marginalisation, in particular of women. Local farmers express their claims for autonomy and socio-ecological justice by means of the embodiment of alternative patterns of water and farming knowledge. However, in daily practices the intensive farming techniques and the local ones are juxtaposed and articulated, leading to the production of a sort of “hybrid agriculture”. The Palestinian territories are fragmented in different hydro-social networks and territories, in multiple “islands of experience” characterised by different conditions of water stress and experiences of deprivation. This leads to the imagination of multiple Palestinian nations and Palestinian “others”.

Abstract:

However, many businesses that uses balanced measurements of discharge financial with sundry measurements of discharge to get wrong when they use forefingers that only point to efficacy while it would be balanced with target to reach efficacy in their operations.

AbstractMigrant remittances today constitute a significant part of international capital flows. Although few scholars would deny the significant contribution of migration and remittances to the income and survival of families in the present-day countries of origin, flows of remittances by migrants in the past are still a mostly neglected topic. Therefore, in the following text, I will follow the money that was sent in different ways from migrants in the United States to their dependents back in the Habsburg Empire. Nearly 18 million people left Europe for the United States between 1890 and the 1930s, the vast majority of whom had been born in Eastern and Southern Europe, and many returned to Europe before World War One. These transatlantic migrants transferred millions of dollars of their savings via letters, banks, or “pocket remittances,” and hence had a significant impact on the economy of the Habsburg Empire.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study aims to identify and present the relevant studies employing DEA applications in bank efficiency evaluation in six Western Balkan (WB) countries as follows: North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). This article implements an extensive systematic literature review of studies that employ the DEA methodology in the efficiency evaluation of Western Balkan countries’ banking systems. The conducted literature review has surveyed the Scopus, Web of Science (SSCI and SCI papers) and Google Scholar databases with „Data Envelopment Analysis“, „Western Balkan“ (and each of the WB countries as keywords) and „Bank“ as keywords for the search following the PRISMA guidelines for systematic literature review. Thereafter, a manual survey of these studies was conducted, which eventually resulted in 31 papers regarding the efficiency of WB countries’ banking systems. This study provides an in-depth literature review on bank efficiency studies with DEA in each of the analysed Western Balkan countries (eight in Serbia, six in North Macedonia, none in Montenegro, three in Albania, three in Kosovo, five in Bosnia and Herzegovina and six cross-country studies that include any of these Western Balkan countries), as well as a presentation of their used models, the selected variables and their findings. The findings reveal that, in most cases, the large banks in WB are most efficient and the small-sized banks are the least efficient. This literature review indicates that the surveyed studies have been published in the period between 2008 and 2022. The findings primarily show the applicability of DEA in the bank efficiency literature

Abstract:
A combined caliper and tri-axial MFL in-line inspection (ILI) reported a bottom side 2.7%OD dent associated with 76% metal loss. The reported dent depth is well below the 6% limit while strain analysis of this ILI dent profile showed a maximum equivalent strain of 17.4%, which exceeds the 6% strain limit for gas pipeline. Due to the high dent strain level, the raw signals of metal loss were revisited, which indicated this associated metal loss appears to be a crack rather than corrosion. In-field investigation revealed that this dent is indeed associated with branched cracks both at internal and external pipe surface but no leak was detected. The primary objective of this case study is to determine the cause for cracking in the dent. As part of this study, detailed investigation was performed including LaserScan based strain analysis, lab pressure-cycle testing and fracture surface examination. An attempt was made to quantify the plastic strain damage of this dent and its susceptibility to cracking using the existing plastic damage models, namely, ductile failure damage indicator (DFDI), strain limit damage (SLD) and minimum elongation limit criterion. The investigation showed that the internal cracks were formed at the time of indentation while the external cracks formed by spring-back (elastic rebounding) due to the removal of rock constraint. Full size fatigue testing of this cracked dent showed leak failure modes rather than rupture. In this paper, the approach, results and the findings are summarized and discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive methodology to evaluate the geometric strain of pipeline in a dented area caused by mechanical damage. This methodology was formulated based on the approach recommended by ASME B31.8 and built the transparency of the entire process of dent strain assessment using three-dimensional (3D) measurement of dent morphology reported by the Caliper tools from in-line inspection (i.e., Caliper data). The 2D Fourier Transform in conjunction with band rejection filtering method was used to filter the signal noise and smooth the 3D morphology of dent. The cubic spline was utilized to characterize the discrete 2D longitudinal and circumferential profiles for curvature and arch length calculations, which were used to evaluate the bending strain and membrane strain, respectively. The effective strain was then calculated using the method recommended by ASME B31.8. To demonstrate the application of the methodology, a tool with user-friendly interface and powerful visualization and reporting functions was developed using the methodologies reported in this paper. The reported methodology enables development of dent strain assessment tool and benefit pipeline operators to facilitate dent integrity management program.

Many readers recognise and understand that complex is about as simple as it gets for major policy and management. This guide is for those unwilling in the Anthropocene to shrink back into the older platitudes about ‘keep it simple’ and ‘not to worry, we’ll scale up the analysis later on’. This guide offers key concepts, methods, counternarratives, and analogies that recast major policy and management issues in ways that do not deny their complexity but help render them more tractable for action.
