Full text
Abstract:
The linearised nonlocal kinetic equation is solved analytically for impurity scattering. The resulting response function provides the conductivity, plasma oscillation and Fermi momentum. It is found that virial corrections nearly compensate the wave-function renormalizations rendering the conductivity and plasma mode unchanged. Due to the appearance of the correlated density, the Luttinger theorem does not hold and the screening length is influenced. Explicit results are given for a typical semiconductor. Elastic scattering of electrons by impurities is the simplest but still very interesting dissipative mechanism in semiconductors. Its simplicity follows from the absence of the impurity dynamics, so that individual collisions are described by the motion of an electron in a fixed potential.

Pitt, Matthew. Results of the clinical application of SPACE in suspected disorders of the neuromuscular junction. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780198754596.003.0011.

Full text
Abstract:
Findings in a large cohort of children with disorders of the neuromuscular junction are presented along with those in non-primary neuromuscular junction abnormalities. From these results it is possible to derive test parameters for stimulated potential analysis using concentric needle electrodes (SPACE) including sensitivity and specificity, along with positive and negative predictive values. The differences between performing stimulation techniques to determine jitter in children and adults are highlighted as are technical aspects and the effects of the differential diagnosis on interpretation of results. An investigative strategy is outlined to be used with SPACE. The chapter concludes with discussion of the occurrence of normal jitter measurements with SPACE in proven cases of myasthenia as well as the phenomenon of delayed diagnosis of myasthenia and its relationship to the availability of neurophysiological testing.

Zachry, Anne H. Retro Baby. 2nd ed. American Academy of Pediatrics, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1542/9781610025133.

Abstract:
It can seem like babies need so much gear and so many toys. But when it comes to their health and development, less is more. In Retro Baby, pediatric occupational therapist and child development specialist Anne Zachry shows parents how bouncers, swings, and other baby holders, as well as electronic toys and screen-time, can hinder development and delay milestones. She suggests a return to back-to-basics parenting, featuring ideas for hands-on activities, homemade toys, and lots of caregiver engagement. Her approach will save parents money, reduce household clutter, and most importantly boost development and bonding. Available for purchase at https://shop.aap.org/retro-baby-2nd-edition-paperback/

Morawetz, Klaus. Scattering on a Single Impurity. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198797241.003.0004.

Full text
Abstract:
Evolution of a many-body system consists of permanent collisions among particles. Looking at the motion of a single particle, one can identify encounters by which a particle abruptly changes the direction of flight, these are seen as true collisions, and small-angle encounters, which in sum act as an applied force rather than randomising collisions. The scattering on impurities is used to introduce the mentioned mechanisms and, in particular, to show how they affect each other. Point impurities are assumed, i.e. impurities the potential of which is restricted to a single atomic site of the crystal lattice. In this case interaction potentials never overlap and many-body effects are due to nonlocal character of the quantum particle. To introduce elementary components of the formalism, in this chapter we first describe the interaction of an electron with a single impurity. Lippman–Schwinger equations are derived and the physics behind the collision delay, dissipativeness and optical theorems is explored.

Silveira, Larissa de Carvalho, and Renata Meira Véras. Associated factors and more frequent sleep disorders in university students: Integrative review. Ludomedia, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.36367/ntqr.13.2022.e695.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction: Sleep disorders affect quality of life on three levels, short, medium and long term. University students are groups prone to changes in sleep quality, as they live with sleep deprivation, among other factors such as anxiety, stress, excessive use of social networks, cell phones and television. The importance of sleep for undergraduates becomes evident in the face of the consequences that poor sleep quality can cause, in addition to allowing professionals in the areas of education and health to create programs that promote and encourage routines with beneficial consequences for students. Objectives: To review the literature on the most frequent sleep disorders in university students and the factors associated with sleep. Methods: This study is a systematic review. The search was performed in December 2021, in the electronic journals PubMed and CAPES journals. The time frame comprised the period from 2017 to 2021. In the end, 20 articles were selected to compose this review. Results: Regarding the main sleep disorders of undergraduates, the main outcomes found in the studies were insufficient sleep, long latency, nocturnal awakenings, excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia and delayed sleep-wake phase disorder. Factors that are modifiable and non-modifiable for the occurrence of sleep disorders, as well as protective factors that can mitigate the occurrence of sleep disorders. Conclusions: The number of articles included in the review showed that over the five years the interest in researching the subject has been increasing. Even so, there is still a need for more effort from researchers to understand which factors are associated with reduced hours of sleep and how society and universities contribute to this practice of increasing waking hours and reducing sleep hours.
