Abstract:
The article describes the theoretical and methodological principles of training PhDs in management for research and innovation activities.Doctor of philosophy is an educational and at the same time the first scientific degree, which is obtained at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education; corresponds to the eighth qualification level of the National Framework of Qualifications, focused on the person's acquisition of integral, general and professional competencies. The author analyzed Ukrainian and foreign (international) documents that confirm the importance of research and innovation training of scientific and pedagogical personnel, doctors of philosophy:− Salzburg principles (Salzburg I, 2005, Salzburg II 2010): the goal of doctoral education is to cultivate a research mindset, cultivate flexibility of thought, creativity and intellectual autonomy with the help of an original, specific research project; − National qualifications framework: correspondence of the third (educational and scientific) and scientific levels of higher education to the 8th level, which provides for mastery of conceptual and methodological knowledge in the field, formation of skills in conducting thorough scientific research with due academic integrity, striving for continuous self-development and self-improvement;− The procedure for the training of higher education applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in higher education institutions (scientific institutions) (2016, with changes): the need for the formation of such research competencies as oral and written presentation of the results of one's own scientific research, management of scientific projects and / or making proposals for financing scientific research, registration of intellectual property rights. An analysis of the Higher Education Standard (third (educational and scientific) level, field of knowledge 07 Management and Administration, specialty 073 Management) and the educational and scientific program «Management», which has been implemented at Uman State Pedagogical University named after Pavlo Tychyna since 2016, was analyzed. It has been established that the system of training doctors of philosophy for research and innovation activity requires constant improvement of theoretical and methodological principles in the context of national standardization of the specified process while preserving the autonomous right of higher education institutions and scientific institutions to the uniqueness of educational and scientific programs.Prospects for further research in this direction consist in a combination of theoretical, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the dynamics of the development of the components of the system of training doctors of philosophy in general and research and innovation activities in particular.

Abstract:
The article discusses the new provision about the degree of doctor of arts in the legislation pertaining on the third level of higher education in Ukraine. It emphasizes the importance of the new degree for training of teaching staff for art universities as well as for educating and advancing careers of practicing artists. The article also discusses history of programs leading to the attainment of the doctor of arts degree and the role of international professional organizations in setting standards for such programs. One of accepted standards is The Florence Principles recommended for arts universities that implement doctoral programs in the arts. Furthermore, the article clarifies the commonalities and differences between the degrees of doctor of philosophy and doctor of arts in the context of goals of the third level of higher education. Both degrees are terminal degrees granted on the basis of a master’s degree. Unlike a research-focused degree of doctor of philosophy, the degree of doctor of arts underscores the importance of creation of an original art product. Thus, doctor of arts programs may present an acceptable alternative for arts universities that are concerned with improving the educational process and aligning the criteria for advanced degrees for practicing artists with international standards.

Abstract:
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are interested in highly professional subjects of scientific and scientific-technical activities, namely in highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers, whose training is carried out through an adjunct course for obtaining the scientific degree of Doctor of philosophy. The problem of ensuring the quality of higher education for applicants for the degree of Doctor of philosophy for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not solved at present and is relevant. The aim of the study is to substantiate the mechanism of Adaptive Quality Management of training applicants for higher education with a doctor of Philosophy degree for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The article analyzes the key experience of recent publications, which showed the interest of a wide scientific circle in the problems of applying adaptive management in the field of education and science. Along with this, researchers have different opinions about the vision of what adaptive management should be. As a result, there is no mechanism of adaptive management in the field of education and science, and even more so in the system of training applicants for higher education with the degree of Doctor of philosophy through adjunct and postgraduate studies. Based on the analysis, it is proposed to choose the basic mechanism of Adaptive Quality Management of training of applicants for higher education of the degree of Doctor of philosophy, which is implemented by a complex methodology for building an individual adaptive learning trajectory and developing the methodological culture of applicants for higher education of the degree of Doctor of philosophy, which includes a set of design methods: 1) a variable component of educational and scientific characteristics of applicants for a Scientific School; 2) a variable component of an optional educational and scientific program of a Scientific School; 3) monitoring and diagnostics of the methodological culture of applicants in the context of the general certification procedure. The listed methods of complex methodology are implemented in a scientific school, provided that the supervisor applies an improved model of scientific and methodological support for applicants for higher education with the degree of Doctor of philosophy. Thus, a scientific novelty is obtained, which consists in the fact that for the first time a mechanism for managing the quality of training applicants for higher education for the degree of Doctor of philosophy is proposed on the basis of adaptive management according to the PDCA scheme. The practical significance of the obtained scientific result made it possible to find out the mechanism of Adaptive Quality Management of methodological training of adjuncts and postgraduates. The presented study does not exhaust all aspects of this problem. The theoretical and practical results obtained in the course of scientific research form the basis for its further study in various aspects.

Abstract:
The ArgumentThe Doctor of Philosophy, a nonmedieval academic figure who spread throughout the globe in the Modern Era, and who emblemized the transformation of academic knowledge into the “pursuit of research,” emerged through a long and tortuous path in the early modern Germanies. The emergence and recognition of the Doctor of Philosophy would be correlative with the nineteenth-century professionalization of the arts and sciences. Throughout the Early Modern Era, the earlier Doctors and older “professional” faculties from the medieval university — Theology, Law, and Medicine — opposed recognition of the Doctor of Philosophy. In Saxony, the forces of “medievalism” were able to block recognition of the Doctor of Philosophy, and they retained the degraded Master of Arts or Philosophy as the highest degree in arts and sciences. Forces of “modernism” prevailed, however, in Austria and Prussia in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In Austria, the Doctor of Philosophy arrived as a wholly modern figure, the creation of a nice dossier and a civil service examination: the medieval “juridical” persona became a modern “bureaucratic” persona. Between this bureaucratic modernism of the Austrians and corporatist medievalism of the Saxons, the Prussians pursued a via media. Unlike the Saxons, they recognized the Doctor of Philosophy; but unlike the Austrians, they did not completely bureaucratize the candidate's persona. The Prussians demanded from the candidate a “work of research,” a doctoral dissertation, which exhibited the aesthetic qualities of the Romantic artist: originality and personality.

The biography of Fyodor Petrovich (Ivanovich) Haaz (Friedrich Joseph Laurentius Haass) (1780 - 1853) - Moscow doctor (1806 - 1853), a German origin, scientist, public health administrator, an outstanding humanist doctor of the first half of the 19th century, a philanthropist, known as the "Holy doctor", is showed in the article. Court Advisor (1811), College Counselor (1826), Knight of the Order of St. Vladimir of the fourth degree (1811), Order of St. Anna of the 2nd degree (181?) of The Russian Impire. A doctor in the army during the Patriotic War of 1812 (from January 1814), head physician of the Moscow Pavlovsk Hospital (1807-1812, 1814-1825), Head of the Moscow Medical Office (1825-1826), one of the founders of the Moscow Eye Hospital (1826), a member of the Moscow Prison Committee and the head doctor of Moscow prisons (1826-1853), the head doctor of the Moscow Catherine Hospital (1840-1844), the founder and head doctor of the Moscow Police (later - Alexander) hospital, popularly called the "Haaz" (1844- 1853). One of the founders of Russian balneology and balneology, who made a great contribution to the development of climatology and meteorology, pioneer in the resorts in the North Caucasus (1809-1810). The creator of lightweight individual shackles, he achieved their introduction at the exile stages to replace the riveting to a common rod for 6-12 convicted. The development of deontology in the 19th century, a science that studies the ethical standards and principles of a doctor’s behavior, as well as certain responsibilities towards the patient, is inextricably linked to the name of Dr. F.P. Haaz [F. Haass]. The life and work of this outstanding humanist physician is a wonderful example of high morality in the fulfillment of his professional duties and genuine nobility in serving the sick and suffering people. The motto of Dr. Haass’ life and professional work was borrowed from the Apostle Paul: “Hurry to do good” (in Galatians (6: 9-10) and in the second letter to The Thessalonians (3:13)). At present, the process of beatification has begun - the canonical process of classifying F. Haass as a blessed Catholic church.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the elucidation of ways to improve the academic speech of applicants for the degree of "Doctor of Philosophy". The concept of "academic speech" is understood as the activity of the researcher to create specialized professional scientific texts and present orally or in writing the results of research at scientific events of various levels. It is noted that the improvement of academic speech in the conditions of postgraduate / adjunct studies can be significantly contributed by the discipline "Fundamentals of Academic Speech", which aims to deepen knowledge of modern Ukrainian literary language, to develop a sense of scientific language, the language taste, to master the scientific style of speech and writing, language means of the scientific text, to develop the steady abilities and skills of the correct and communicatively justified use of language means in academic speech, to form the speech behavior in oral scientific discussion. The most common mistakes that occur in scientific texts are identified. They include: lexical (tracings from the Russian language, tautology, pleonasms, incorrect use of paronyms), grammatical (incorrect formation of singular forms of nouns, adjectives, numerals, pronouns, incorrect use of prepositions, incorrect formation of participles, incorrect use of pronouns), syntactic (oversaturation of the scientific text with the verb forms on "-ся", non-normative use of prepositions as a part of syntactic constructions); stylistic, punctuation, spelling mistakes. A number of exercises, methods and forms of organization of the educational process which can contribute to the improvement of academic speech of future scientists are proposed. They include exercises on editing and translating scientific texts, role-playing and business games, discussions, debates, brainstorming, project method, preparation of own scientific texts, speeches with an oral scientific report in compliance with the requirements for public speaking.

The name of Arsen Rychinsky - a doctor, church and public figure, a prominent religious ethnologist - is being forgotten today. Arsen Rychinsky was born in the village of Tetilitsa, Kremenetsky district of the former Volyn province in a priest's family, studied at the Kremenetsky Pymnasium, and after graduating from Zhytomyr Theological Seminary. While studying at the seminary, Arsen Richinsky produced manuscripts and journals. A well-endowed young man searched hard for himself. Perhaps that is why in 1911 he became not a priest but a teacher of the parish school of the village of Sidnyarka, Lutsk county. He taught Richinsky not for long, but his love for school, he kept his children for life. From September 1911 Rychinsky studied at the University of Warsaw, and from the beginning of World War I transferred to the University of St. Vladimir in Kiev. In March 1917 he successfully passed the exams and was approved "to the degree of a doctor with all the rights and advantages of the laws of this degree assigned."

American Psychological Association-accredited clinical doctor of philosophy (PhD), clinical doctor of psychology (PsyD), counseling, and school psychology doctoral programs were surveyed to assess the importance placed on various admission criteria, including having a master's degree in clinical psychology. In addition, potential benefits of obtaining a master's degree before enrolling in a doctoral program were assessed. Results indicated that clinical PhD programs view a terminal master's degree significantly more negatively than do the other programs. Benefits for terminal master's degree holders included credit transfer and, for those pursuing a PsyD, a more positive view toward the PsyD degree by some academicians. Although all programs reported Graduate Record Examination combined scores, undergraduate grades, and letters of recommendation as clearly important criteria when making admissions decisions, differences were found across programs in the value placed on research experience, journal publication, and work and life experience.

In this study, we investigat-ed whether the D.B.A. is, in fact, a viable faculty credential by gathering data from univer-sity catalogs and doctoral program websites and handbooks from 427 graduate business and management programs to analyze the terminal degrees held by 6159 faculty. The analysis indicated that 173 institutions (just over 40% of the total) employed 372 faculty whose ter-minal degree was the D.B.A. This constituted just over 6% of the total number of faculty. Additionally, the program and faculty qualification standards of the six regional accrediting agencies and the three programmatic accrediting agencies for business programs (AACSB, IACBE, and ACBSP) were analyzed. Results indicated that all these accrediting agencies treated the D.B.A. and Ph.D. in business identically and that the D.B.A. was universally considered to be a valid credential for teaching business at the university level. Suggestions for future research are also offered.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study approaches to the formation of a network and composition of one-time specialized scientific councils in Ukraine according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers «Procedure for conducting an experiment for awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy» dated March 6, 2019, No. 167. An analysis was made of the existing extensive network of specialized scientific councils in Ukraine and the procedure for conducting an experiment for awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by specialized scientific councils of the institutions of higher education and scientific institutions. The main objects of the study are institutions of higher education and scientific institutions which have received the right for performing educational activities in higher education at the third educational and scientific level in the field of knowledge and specialties for which Doctors of Philosophy are trained. During 2016–2019, 251 institutions of higher education in 118 specialties and 189 scientific institutions in 64 specialties received a license to train Doctors of Philosophy. As of January 1, 2020, there were 25,245 postgraduate students in 226 institutions of higher education and 191 scientific institutions (excluding postgraduate students from foreign countries), including 15,447 full-time postgraduate students, which is 61,2 % of the total number of postgraduate students, 9,798 postgraduate students attend evening and correspondence courses (38,8 %). The statutory period for the preparation of a Doctor of Philosophy in postgraduate studies, regardless of the form of study, is four years, and a Doctor of Science in doctoral studies is two years. Doctors of Philosophy training began in 2016, with the first graduation of Doctors of Philosophy in 2020, respectively. According to the data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the number of persons enrolled in graduate studies was 6 609 in 2016, 7 274 persons – in 2017, 7 172 persons – in 2018, 7 381 persons – in 2019. To conduct an experiment on the Doctors of Philosophy certification, the structure of the application for the opening of one-time Specialized Scientific Councils for institutions of higher education and scientific institutions, as well as the mechanism of database filling was developed. Further research on the development of information and analytical system for the training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff should be focused on the development of information and analytical system for the automated accounting and monitoring of the establishment of one-time specialized scientific councils, the procedure of the Doctors of Philosophy certification and records of diplomas issued.

Abstract:
IntroductionProof of professional specific academic attainment is embedded within the Joint Committee on Surgical Training 2013 general surgery curriculum, mandating that all higher general surgical trainees (HST) obtain three peer-reviewed publications to qualify for Certification of Completion of Training. Yet, Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) has been associated with a trend away from the gold standard postgraduate credentials of higher degrees by research. This study aimed to evaluate the academic achievements of a post-MMC UK Deanery HST cohort to determine what additional benefits higher degree study might confer.MethodThe Scopus bibliographic database (Elsevier, RELX Group) was used to characterise the academic profiles of 101 consecutive HSTs and supplemented with Intercollegiate Surgical Programme Curriculum data. Primary outcome measures were numbers of publications, citations and Hirsch indices (HI).ResultsThirty-seven HSTs (36.6%) had been awarded higher degrees (29 Doctor of Medicine, 8 Doctor of Philosophy). Academic profiles of HSTs with higher degrees were stronger than those of HSTs without, specifically: median (range) publication numbers 16 (2–57) vs 2 (0–11, P<0.001), citations 93 (0–1600) vs 6 (0–132, P<0.001), first author publications 6 (0–33) vs 3 (0–106, P<0.001), communications to learnt societies 30 (5–79) vs 8 (2–35, P<0.001) and HI 6 (1–26) vs 1 (0–6, P<0.001).ConclusionProof of academic reach by higher degree was associated with important enhanced professional credentials, strengthening HIs sixfold. Trainers and trainees alike should be aware of the relative magnitude of such benefits when planning educational programmes.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the philosophical and cultural view of “doctor’s professional culture” as a result of centuries-old practice of human relations, which is characterized by constancy and passed from generation to generation. Medicine is a complex system in which an important role is played by: philosophical outlook of a doctor, philosophical culture, ecological culture, moral culture, aesthetic culture, artistic culture. We have found that within the system “doctor-patient” the degree of cultural proximity becomes a factor that influences the health or life of a patient. Thus, the following factors are important here: 1) communication that suppresses a sick person; 2) the balance of cultural and intellectual levels; 3) the cultural environment of a patient which has much more powerful impact on a patient than the medical one.At the present stage, the interdependence of professional and humanitarian training of future specialists is predominant, as a highly skilled specialist can not but become a subject of philosophizing. We outlined the sphere where the doctors present a genre variety of philosophizing (philosophical novels, apologies, dialogues, diaries, aphorisms, confessions, essays, etc.). This tradition represents the original variations in the formation of future doctor’s communicative competences, which are formed in the process of medical students’ professional training.A survey conducted among medical students made it possible to establish their professional values, which are indicators of the formation of philosophical and culturological competence. It was found out that 92% of respondents believed that a doctor should demonstrate a high level of health culture (avoid drinking and smoking habits, etc.)99% of respondents favoured a high level of personal qualities of a doctor which would allow methods and forms of medical practice to assert higher human ideals of truth, goodness and beauty that are the subject area of cultural studies and philosophy.

Although much has been written about the cardiovascular abnormalities present in Eisenmenger’s syndrome, little has been recorded previously in the medical literature about Victor Eisenmenger, the Austrian doctor whose name is attached eponymously to this disorder. Archival material together with information provided by his descendants and relatives has been gathered to make available further details of his life, family, schooling, medical training and accomplishments. An examination of Eisenmenger’s book about his observations and experiences while serving from 1895 to 1914 as personal physician to Archduke Francis Ferdinand, the heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, also sheds light on Eisenmenger’s personality, abilities and interests.

This article depicts the unique integration of science and practice found in Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs. To dispel myths and provide accurate information about the counseling psychology PsyD degree, survey and interview data from all nine American Psychological Association (APA)–accredited counseling psychology PsyD programs are presented. We argue that embracing PsyD programs within a unified counseling psychology training structure and value system has advantages for the field, including providing a mechanism to foster counseling psychology’s reach and social justice mission. Given the newly-articulated professional competencies of the APA Standards of Accreditation, we also suggest that maintaining counseling psychology training consistency across both Doctor of Philosophy and PsyD programs has the potential to better meet counseling psychologist career trajectories and workforce needs.

Abstract:
Mental lexicon is a storage which holds the data about everything we know until it is required to be used. Onyms are stored in the mental lexicon in the form of concepts as individual units of knowlegde which reflect personal experience of the human being. The goal of the research is to explore the common ways of associative comprehension of proper names in order to better understand their essence and meanings they exhibit. The view is substantiated that transition from traditional to cognitive onomastic research will help to settle disputes among onomasticians and language philosophers as to the controversial subject of semantic and referential status of proper names. The study is carried out on the material of the English official horse names as they are considered to be one of the proper name classes with the highest degree of arbitrariness of nomination. In this research, the author conducts a free associative experiment with 250 English native speakers. As the experimental material 5 stimuli of official hipponyms were chosen as well as the results of a free associative experiment of total quantity of 1136 reactions. The result of the study was the conclusion that the ways of associative identification of onyms depend not only on our presuppositional knowledge, direct or indirect experience in connection to a certain proper name, but also on a set of proprial and linguistic features peculiar to each name. The specificity of each proper name in this sense will determine the main mechanism of its associative identification.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the current state of the system of traditional medical system in China, Mongolia and Russia. The object of this research is the role of a doctor in development of the traditional medicine (Tibetan) in China, Mongolia and Russia. The authors conduct comparative analysis between the degree of integratedness of the doctor of traditional medicine into the general medical and scientific-educational environment of one or another country, and degree of their demand in practical health care. Special attention is given to the sources of biographical records on the doctors of Tibetan medicine in Old Mongolian and Chinese languages, as well as to the problem of the impact of sociocultural and normative legal environment upon personal becoming of the doctor of traditional medicine. The main conclusions consist in determination of commonality of religious beliefs and the method of acquisition of knowledge on Tibetan medicine in the context of Buddhist philosophy, as well as the fact that traditional Tibetan medicine is interrelated with Buddhism, in which the system of the so-called “direct transfer” of knowledge from the teacher to a student has sacred and fundamental meaning in becoming of the healer monk. The authors' special contribution to the research is defined by introduction into the scientific discourse of previously unpublished records on the doctors of Tibetan medicine in China, Mongolia and Russia. The novelty consists in conducting the analysis of factors that unite the doctors of Tibetan medicine in China, Mongolia and Russia, as well as in reveling the commonality of religious beliefs and method of acquisition of knowledge of Tibetan medicine in the context of Buddhist philosophy.

Abstract:
Background: Limited knowledge exists on the role of advanced academic degrees within faculty positions in orthopaedic sports medicine. Purpose: To 1) provide an assessment of the baseline demographics of advanced degrees among orthopaedic sports medicine faculty and 2) examine the impact of advanced degrees on research productivity and career attainment of orthopaedic sports medicine faculty. Study Design: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: Orthopaedic sports medicine academics were identified using faculty listings on websites of the 200 orthopaedic surgery residency programs during the 2020-2021 academic year. Advanced degrees were defined as those additional to the primary medical degree (Doctor of Medicine [MD] or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine [DO]). Outcome measures included timing of advanced degree obtainment, residency program rankings, research productivity, and current academic rank and leadership roles. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests to determine the association of advanced degrees on outcome measures. Results: In total, 911 orthopaedic sports medicine faculty members were identified, of whom 100 had an advanced degree. The most common advanced degrees were Master of Science (MS/MSc; 38%), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD; 23%), and Master of Business Administration (MBA; 13%). The presence of an advanced degree was associated with greater research productivity, including higher h-index and number of publications, as well as more editorial board positions on orthopaedics journals ( P < .001). Advanced degrees were not significantly associated with attending a higher ranked orthopaedic surgery residency program, current academic rank, or leadership roles. At the institutional level, orthopaedic sports medicine programs that employed faculty with an advanced degree had a higher residency program ranking and the presence of a sports medicine fellowship was more likely ( P < .05). Conclusion: Advanced degrees in orthopaedic sports medicine were associated with greater faculty research engagement and employment at a higher ranked institution; they were not associated with matching to a highly ranked orthopaedic surgery residency program, higher faculty rank, or academic leadership roles.

Abstract:
Japanese colonial rule ultimately aimed at destroying Korean history, culture, and its national spirit. Korean traditional medicine is a precious national asset containing the spirit and philosophy of the Korean people that has been preserved for 5,000 years. Based on Japan’s policy guidelines of assimilation, the Government-General of the Japanese Empire attempted to root out Korean traditional medicine, which had accumulated a national tradition and spirit. With the beginning of Japanese colonial rule, the alien rulers in Korea launched a program of subjugating the medical system of Joseon to Western medical science under the name of modernization. This article is a historiographic and biographic study on the life of Shin Hong-gyun, a Korean Independence Army (military surgeon) member, who bravely joined the battle of Daejeonjaryeong (大甸子嶺). It was Kim Jung-geon who led Shin Honggyun to join the difficult path of the anti-Japanese struggle. Kim Jung-geon founded Wonjong (元宗), which aimed to renovate Korean society to present a new ideal world called Daegonghwamukuk (大共和無國). He developed his strategy of the anti-Japanese independence movement through implementing a social reform, Ubokchon (魚腹村), which embodied his philosophy and experience. The relationship between Shin and Kim lasted for 17 years through their collaborative works in the anti-Japanese independence movement and social reform. This article introduced the trajectory of how Kim Junggeon’s philosophy influenced Shin Hong-gyun’s determination to join the independence army.

Abstract:
Increasingly, institutions of higher education are adopting fully online degree programs to provide students with cost-effective, accessible postsecondary education. A concern these degrees raise is: Will students be prepared for the next step of their career paths after completing their Bachelor’s degree online? Biology undergraduates often begin their degrees wanting to become medical doctors, but no studies have explored whether students in a fully online biology degree program are being prepared to be admitted to medical school. In this study, we surveyed Introductory Biology students at one institution who were pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences, either in an online or an in-person program. The most prevalent career goal for both in-person students (65.2%) and online students (39.7%) was a medical doctor. Online students were more confident in their intentions to become doctors than their in-person peers. However, online students knew fewer criteria that medical schools consider when admitting students than in-person students [in-person: mean = 3.7 (SD 1.6); online: mean =2.7 (SD 1.7)] and were less likely to plan to become involved in premedical activities, such as undergraduate research. Finally, compared with in-person students, fewer online students were able to name at least one science student (in-person: 76.7%; online: 9.7%), academic advisor (in-person: 21.3%; online: 6.5%), and faculty member (in-person: 33.7%; online: 6.5%) with whom they could talk about pursuing a career in medicine. This work highlights knowledge gaps between students enrolled in a fully online biology degree and an in-person biology degree that are important for developers of online biology degree programs to understand and rectify to better prepare online biology students for admission to medical school.

During this period apart from the establishment of HEIs various new degrees, diplomas and awards have been started. Like the United Kingdom and its follower countries, degrees in the field of Science and Applied Sciences started and continued both Science and Engineering platform/ stream. Similarly, in research segment two main degrees till continued one is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and another is Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.). Both are important and valuable in their own place. The M.Phil. program is a kind of research based master’s program and similar to the Masters of Research (M.Res.) programs available in many countries. M.Phil. is also a smaller and previous part of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Normally it requires less time than a PhD program. The program available worldwide and in India also it has offered by the universities. In India, the degree is available in different platform or stream i.e. Arts, Science, and Commerce. Even in Technology and Management stream as well the programs have been started in recent. This paper is conceptual in nature and primary study based on the availability of M.Phil. program nationwide. Abstract:
Introduction: Several recent studies have shown a gender disparity in professional doctoral introductions at major medical conferences, with female speakers being less likely to be introduced with a professional title. We sought to examine whether a similar disparity existed at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting. Methods: In this retrospective observational study, 8 investigators reviewed available presentations from video archives of the 2018 ASH Annual Meeting. Presentations were excluded if gender could not be identified and/or speaker did not have a doctoral degree. We collected data on speaker gender, speaker academic/non-academic rank, speaker geographic location, speaker training status, speaker session type and introducer gender were all collected. A "professional address" was defined as either "Dr. [First and Last Name]" or "Dr. [Last Name]." Descriptive statistics and regression modelling were used to analyze the data. Results:Of the videos reviewed, 645 presentations were eligible for analysis; 380 (59%) speakers were men and 264 (41%) were women. A comparison of male and female speaker cohorts is seen in Table 1. Forty-eight percent of both men and women held a Medical Doctor degree (MD), and the rest were MD/PhD or PhD graduates. Substantially more men (28%) were full professors compared to women (13%). Almost half (47%) of session types for both men and women speakers were designated as "basic science." In an adjusted analysis, more women (N=174, 66%) compared to men (N=225, 59%) received a professional address (P<.01). 43% of women were introduced by a female introducer and 42% of men were introduced by a female introducer (P=.79). In addition, 48 of the introducers (19%) for women and 68 of the introducers (18%) for men had a PhD or MD/PhD. In a logistic regression model adjusting for session type, academic rank, degree, geographic location, trainee status, and gender of introducer, there were no significant gender-based differences in professional introduction [Table 1; Odds Ratio (OR) 0.71, P=.06]. In addition, speakers with MD introducers were more likely to have a professional introduction compared to PhD introducers (OR 2.15, P=.03) regardless of sex. Conclusions: Our study demonstrates that women were at least as likely as men to receive a professional address at the 2018 ASH Annual Meeting. These results differ from previous studies of other professional medical conferences. These findings may reflect the strong presence of PhD graduates as both speakers and introducers. Both forms of bias (gender and degree-based) merit further study and interventions including speaker training to ensure combatting unconscious bias. Abstract:
This research aimed to assess the indicators that characterize the number of teaching staff at universities and other higher education institutions (HEIs) in the regions of Russia. These indicators were: (1) the number of teachers per thousand working-age residents of each of the regions, (2) the average number of teachers per HEI in the region, (3) the proportion of teachers who have a Doctor of Science (DSc) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the number of teachers working in HEIs in the region, and (4) the number of students per teacher working in HEIs. We used official statistical information of 82 regions of Russia. We found that, on average, there are slightly more than two teachers working in HIEs per thousand working-age residents. The average number of teachers per HIE in Russia is 158. In universities, the average number of students per teacher is more than 20. The proposed methodological approach and the obtained results are a scientific novelty, since the assessment of regional characteristics of the number of teaching staff in the regions of Russia has not been carried out before.
