Abstract:
Interdisciplinary knowledge exchange constitutes a network with discipline nodes and knowledge flow edges. Using data on Chinese academic literature, the current paper establishes a discipline knowledge network and analyses its structural features. Citation analysis is first used to measure the flow of knowledge between disciplines to build a discipline knowledge network. Subsequently, the features of the network, such as degree distribution, degree correlation, knowledge flow mode and other structure properties, are then analysed based on complex networks and social network theory. The tail of the degree distribution of this discipline knowledge network is in concordance with exponential distribution. The network has also a distinct hierarchical structure. Moreover, the knowledge flow between disciplines is directional. It flows from certain basic and academic disciplines to the applied disciplines.

Abstract:
The development of electronic study guides (ESG) for Bachelor’s disciplines enables to reduce procurement costs for print library collections. Posting of ESGs on the University Internet resources will provide their accessibility and usability, so the subject is topical. The article analyzes the experience of developing electronic study guides for the disciplines of basic professional bachelor’s degree programs in various universities and reviews the literature on this subject. The main features that distinguish ESG from paper teaching materials are the following: multimedia presentation of information, interactivity, dynamic content. In addition, remote interaction between a teacher and students in forums or video conferences is possible, depending on the format of the ESG. Furthermore, ESG allows one to remotely monitor the completeness and timeliness of the study of certain topics of the discipline, unlike other types of educational and methodological support. The implementation of the ESG makes it possible to maintain control in two forms: internal and external. There are also such criteria for assessing the quality of ESG as: proportion in ensuring the total volume of discipline, proportion in ensuring the self-directed student work, quality of design, the effectiveness of multimedia, adaptability, level of remote access. The result of the analysis was the development of requirements for the ESG design for the discipline «Structure and calculation of engines». This discipline includes the basics of structure and calculation elements and systems of internal combustion engines and the processes occurring in them. In Perm National Research Polytechnic University, according to the curriculum, the discipline is studied for 2 semesters; the labor intensity is 7 credits. Classroom lessons consist of lectures, laboratory and practical classes, additionally, coursework was provided. The difficulty of organizing and maintaining a laboratory in working condition is due to high labor and material costs for fuels and lubricants, electricity, forced-air ventilation, maintenance and repair of internal combustion engines, etc. In this regard, it is relevant to use simulation methods and create virtual laboratory benches to determine the characteristics of the internal combustion engine. These benches may be considered as an alternative to field experiments and stands. As a result of the generalization experience, it was possible to draw up general requirements to the structure and content of the ESG and to provide recommendations on the development of ESGs taking into account the specifics of applied bachelor’s programs.

Abstract:
Washington State Univ. Tri-Cities offers a new agricultural degree program titled Integrated Cropping Systems. It is intended to provide a basic education on the fundamentals of crop production and the environmental context in which crops are grown. Courses are offered at the upper division level to interface with the lower division courses offered at local community colleges. The curriculum is composed of courses in environmental science, ecology and conservation as well as crop growth and development, crop nutrition, plant pathology integrated pest management and others. Students need to meet the same requirements as those at other Washington State Univ. campuses in regards to the general education requirements. The purpose of the Integrated Cropping Systems program is to provide an educational opportunity for agricultural professionals and others in the region who are unable to commute or move to the main campus location. The curriculum provides the background needed for such occupations as grower/producer, crop scouting, sales representative and other entry level agricultural professions. It will supply credits toward certification through the American Registry of Certified Professional Agricultural Consultants (ARCPACS). Integrated Cropping Systems is a unique agricultural curriculum designed to help agriculturists integrate their production practices into the local ecosystem in a way that the environment does not incur damage. It emphasizes the use of environmentally conscience decisionmaking processes and sound resource ethics. The program will graduate individuals who have heightened awareness of the impact agricultural practices have on the ecosystem in which they are conducted.

Abstract:
The scope of the article is reinterpretation of the question posed by Rodgers and Rodgers, namely, are Public Administration scholarship produced by “disciplined purists” – Public Administration scholars producing Public Administration research – or “undisciplined mongrels”? The methodology diverges from previous analysis through examination of doctoral dissertation research classification, rather than faculty output in publications. Concomitantly, Biglan classification of disciplines was used as a framework to determine disciplinary classifications of “undisciplined” or interdisciplinary scholarship. Findings indicate that from 2000 to 2015, there were shifts toward Public Administration as a “purist” discipline. Not only are there changes toward a distinct discipline but also steady declines in outside discipline production of Public Administration doctoral research. The analysis demonstrated a statistically significant increase in categorization of Public Administration scholarship for subjects generally accepted as core issues. Another noted change was dramatic decline for the Doctor of Public Administration degree as the field redefined boundaries.

Abstract:
Project-based learning units are often used for large scale work integrated learning (WIL) experiences in Liberal Studies Degrees as they offer scalability and sustainability of delivery to large cohorts. This systematic search and review evaluates the effectiveness of interdisciplinary project-based learning in Science Degree programs for developing discipline knowledge and employability skills. Education literature databases were searched for peer-reviewed journal articles that discussed undergraduate science-based degree programs with project-based learning units involving students from multiple disciplines. Data were analysed for evidence of a skill gain in 6 areas (Discipline knowledge, Communication, Teamwork, Interdisciplinary effectiveness, Critical thinking and problem solving, and Self-management). Projects were assigned to categories based on interdisciplinary breadth and depth. Data was analysed by cross-tabulations, Fisher’s Exact test and by calculating odds ratios (OR), which indicate the effect size. Perception of a skill gain was significantly more likely to be reported than an objectively measured skill gain (p<0.001). Real discipline skill gains were 6.6 times more likely in projects narrow in discipline mix (OR 6.6), however perceived discipline skill gains were high irrespective of project type. Projects with wide interdisciplinarity were significantly associated with perceived gains in interdisciplinary effectiveness (OR 32, p<0.05) and more likely to have perceived gains in communication (OR 2.5) and teamwork (OR 3.4) skills. When projects have greater interdisciplinary breadth or depth, perceived student employability skill gains increase, perceived discipline skill gains are unaffected, however actual discipline skill gains are less reported. Further research and evidence that project-based learning is meeting the desired WIL learning objectives of the curriculum is needed.

Abstract:
As complexity challenges healthcare providers across disciplines, calls arise for greater collaboration across settings and disciplines. In this column, the importance of honoring the wisdom of the diverse perspectives of collaborators with varying educational and experiential backgrounds is explored. For authentic collaboration to be possible, collaborators must have a solid theoretical, scientific, and experiential foundation within their particular discipline. The challenge for nurse faculty is to prepare students for collaboration by providing teaching-learning opportunities for building a solid foundation in the discipline, being clear about the distinctions across disciplines as well as the distinctions among the many degree levels within nursing.

Abstract:
We prove the relevance and educational purposefulness of the “Creative Abilities Development” discipline for master’s degree students. We emphasize that there is constant social need in active and ambitious members of society, who are able to see new problematic areas, find new answers for non-standard questions, in other words, the society needs creative individuals. We consider the object, the tasks of the discipline and the demands of the study. The discipline gives a possibility to deepen the knowledge and form the competencies, which are defined by the content of basic disciplines; it also allows master’s degree students to gain skills for future successful pro-fessional and educational activities. We emphasize the special significance of individual work of master’s degree students during their studying. We suggest the following types of individual work: comprehension and assimilation of the lecture contents with a support on the educational and methodical literature recommended by the lecturer, use of information educational resources, preparation for practical classes, preparation of reports on the discipline, abstracts, essays, creation of the creative project, work with primary sources, visiting libraries, museums, exhibitions, concerts for the purpose of collecting and accumulation of information and broadening of horizons. We also emphasize the role of a lecturer in the organization of students’ cognitive activity. We prove that active development of cognitive activity of master’s degree students depends on the organization of non-traditional forms and methods of study: business and role play, training, discussions, implementation of information technologies, using pedagogical methods, which are adequate to the situation. Planning the content of “Creative Abilities Development” classes is possible due to integrative approach to the study, polyartistic development of master’s degree students.

Abstract:
We establish a conservation law for G/G/1 queues with any work-conserving service discipline using the equilibrium equations, also called the basic equations. We use this conservation law to prove an extremal property of the first-come firstserved (FCFS) service discipline: among all service disciplines that are work-conserving and independent of remaining service requirements for individual customers, the FCFS service discipline minimizes [maximizes] the mean sojourn time in a G/G/1 queue with independent (but not necessarily identical) service times with a common mean and new better [worse] than used (NBUE[NWUE]) distributions. This extends recent results of Halfin and Whitt (1990), Righter et al. (1990) and Yamazaki and Sakasegawa (1987a,b). In addition we use the conservation law to obtain an approximation for the mean queue length in a GI/GI/1 queue under the processor-sharing service discipline with finite degree of multiplicity, called LiPS discipline. Several numerical examples are presented which support the practical usefulness of the proposed approximation.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article deals with the subject matter of International Relations as an academic discipline. It addresses the issue of whether and how one or many realms could legitimately be claimed as the discipline’s prime subject. It first raises a number of problems associated with both identifying the subject matter of IR and ‘labelling’ the discipline in relation to competing terms and disciplines, followed by a discussion on whether, and to what degree, IR takes its identity from a confluence of disciplinary traditions or from a distinct methodology. It then outlines two possibilities that would lead to identifying IR as a discipline defined by a specific realm in distinction to other disciplines: (1) the ‘international’ as a specificrealmof the social world, functionally differentiated from other realms; (2) IR as being about everything in the social world above a particularscale. The final section discusses the implications of these views for the study of International Relations.

Abstract:
Background. To accurately evaluate sports social discipline’s academic influence in China, a model of academic influence evaluation of sports social discipline in China based on bibliometrics is proposed. Objective. A statistical model of the academic influence of sports social discipline is constructed, the word frequency statistics method is used to measure the literature, and the semantic characteristic quantity of the sports social discipline academic influence is extracted, using the literature method and logical analysis method to analyze sports’ social value in the Internet era from healthy sports. The combination of sports and medical treatment can comprehensively promote physical and mental health. Methods. The dual semantic feature decomposition method is used to analyze sports social discipline’s academic influence. The statistical analysis model of sports social discipline academic influence is established. The principles of fuzzy pattern recognition include the principle of maximum membership degree and proximity degree. Results. The comprehensive relative closeness of the distribution of literature statistics on sports and social disciplines’ academic influence is constructed. The linear programming analysis of literature statistics is carried out using the standardized grid computing method. Conclusions. The combination of association rule feature extraction and semantic feature extraction is used to realize the quantitative calculation of literature statistics and academic influence. The simulation results show that the statistical analysis of the academic influence of sports and social discipline by this method is accurate, and the level of confidence is high.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to measure the degree of interdisciplinary collaboration in Big Data research based on the co-occurrences of subject categories using Stirling’s diversity index and specialization index. Design/methodology/approach Interdisciplinarity was measured utilizing the descriptive statistics of disciplines, network indicators showing relationships between disciplines and within individual disciplines, interdisciplinary communities, Stirling’s diversity index and specialization index, and a strategic diagram revealing the development status and trends of discipline communities. Findings Comprehensively considering all results, the degree of interdisciplinarity of Big Data research is increasing over time, particularly, after 2013. There is a high level of interdisciplinarity in Big Data research involving a large number of disciplines, but it is unbalanced in distribution. The interdisciplinary collaborations are not intensive on the whole; most disciplines are aggregated into a few distinct communities with computer science, business and economics, mathematics, and biotechnology and applied microbiology as the core. Four major discipline communities in Big Data research represent different directions with different development statuses and trends. Community 1, with computer science as the core, is the most mature and central to the whole interdisciplinary network. Accounting for all network indicators, computer science, engineering, business and economics, social sciences, and mathematics are the most important disciplines in Big Data research. Originality/value This study deepens our understanding of the degree and trend of interdisciplinary collaboration in Big Data research through a longitudinal study and quantitative measures based on two indexes. It has practical implications to study and reveal the interdisciplinary phenomenon and characteristics of related developments of a specific research area, or to conduct comparative studies between different research areas.

Abstract:
Since 2006 there have been significant changes in the labour market for university graduates, most notably the Global Financial Crisis of 2007 and the subsequent downturn in gross domestic product growth, and a huge expansion in university places. This article presents estimates of the monetary returns in Australia associated with the completion of bachelor degrees in 2016 for a range of fields of study and compares them to the estimates for 2006. The results show that for the median person, there are still good monetary incentives to complete these degrees and the private rate of return compares favourably with the long-term real bond rate. However, the article also concludes that the return to an individual investing in bachelor education had mostly declined in the period 2006–2016. There is, again, considerable variation between disciplines and for some, completion of a bachelor degree does not yield positive returns. The key factors determining the monetary rate of return are the discipline of the degree and the graduates’ subsequent labour force status. Graduates in full-time employment in most disciplines avoided being among those with low (or negative) rates of return. In addition, there is some evidence of skills mismatch and over skilling among the lowest paid university graduates.

Abstract:
The historiography of physics has reached a great degree of maturity and sophistication, providing many avenues to consider the making of science from a historical perspective. However, the big picture of the making of physics is characterized by a predominant narrative focused on a conception of disciplinary formation through leadership transfers in research among France, Germany, and Britain. This focus has provided the history of physics with a periodization, a geography, and a fundamental goal commonly considered to be conceptual and theoretical unification. In this paper, I suggest the interest of reassessing this picture by analyzing the temporal, national, and epistemological viewpoint from which it is written. I use for this purpose an exemplary case study: Adolphe Ganot’s physics textbooks in France and their translation by Edmund Atkinson in England. In this context, I suggest future avenues for the study of the making of physics as a discipline, which consider the canonical role of textbooks in disciplinary formation beyond the Kuhnian paradigm.

Abstract:
Several authors have previously promoted the transformation of the application-based agricultural engineering discipline into a biology-based biological engineering discipline. A systematic analysis of titles for courses being taught by ASABE-umbrella programs across North America was undertaken to identify curricular differences between biology-based and application-based “bio” engineering disciplines. Based on 44 ASABE-umbrella programs analyzed, the four most commonly used program names were biological engineering (25%), biosystems engineering (20%), biological systems engineering (15.9%) and agricultural engineering (13.6%). Definitions of these four program names were reviewed; biosystems, biological systems and agricultural engineering are typically defined such that they are best described as application-based “bio” engineering disciplines while biological engineering is best described as a biology-based engineering discipline. Based on statistical analysis of the frequency of words in course titles, there was a significant increase in the usage of the word “food” and a lack of the word “project” in the course titles within biological engineering programs. Over half of the unique options were found in biological engineering programs suggesting that they do offer unique course content compared with biosystems, biological systems and agricultural engineering degree programs, however, it is noteworthy that four options appear across all four degrees. It is concluded that there are curricular differences between biology-based and application-based “bio” engineering disciplines, however, the curricular differences are not as substantive as one might conclude from the philosophical discussions in the literature. Alternatively, it may simply not be possible to detect curricular differences solely from an analysis of the course titles

Abstract:
This paper investigates semantic categories of reporting verbs across four disciplines: Accounting, Applied Linguistics, Engineering and Medicine in research article genre. A general corpus of one million words and sub-corpus (for each discipline) were compiled from a total of 120 articles representing 30 articles from each discipline. In this study, two levels of analysis were conducted. Firstly, I randomly selected five articles from each discipline and read and reread each article identifying what reporting verbs are used, in what context are used and why such reporting verbs are used. This process enabled me to identify semantic categories of reporting verbs. Secondly, on the basis of the identified list of semantic categories of reporting verbs, I used the list in generating concordance output for quantitative textual analysis of each sub-corpus of the four disciplines, as well as the general corpus. The results of the study show that writers from both Accounting and Applied Linguistics are having a high frequency of reporting verbs than writers from Engineering and Medicine disciplines. It also shows that there are certain commonalities and differences between the disciplines. For example, all the disciplines are having frequency of the three semantic categories of reporting verbs but with certain degree of variations. The study recommends raising awareness of students on semantic categories of reporting verbs. The results could also help EAP/ESP teachers in designing course materials for discipline specific reporting verbs. It could also be helpful for textbook course designers in developing textbooks for teaching reporting verbs.

Beginning with the salient common ground of issues related to engagement in physical activity, the program is designed to explore, compare, and contrast best practices in research and practice from each discipline. Benefits include synergistic solutions to common problems, graduates who transcend traditional professional silos to be more impactful, and the creation of innovative research endeavors. Graduates also find that they meet contemporary workforce needs outside of academia and are more marketable as faculty in kinesiology and health-related departments because of their rich, multidisciplinary knowledge base. Challenges to program implementation include prior student socialization from traditional studies in their disciplines and faculty working to move beyond their professional comfort zones to collaboratively mentor students in the program.

Abstract:
This article addresses the question of what might constitute an exegesis for a higher degree by research in journalism, and briefly canvasses issues for journalism as a disciplinary research practice. It starts by considering the craft/profession/discipline dichotomies to clarify the sort of journalism that might qualify as research, typically but not necessarily long form and/or investigative. It identifies the three core elements of the exegesis as a literature review, an exposition of the methodology and an evaluation of the success of the journalism component of the project in answering the research question. It notes that all journalism, like history and other humanities disciplines, is necessarily interdisciplinary, and therefore the journalistic methodology should interface with that of the cognate discipline. It argues that the singularity and value of journalism as a research practice lie in its combination of a reflexive empirical focus, a focus on contemporary phenomena and an intense engagement with the politics of knowledge. It suggests that meta-theoretical debates about reflexivity, space, time and fields are strongly applicable to methodological debates in journalism.

Abstract The paper is based on the experience gained in creating eLearning courses to keep the student’s interest high, to encourage them to study additional materials in order to achieve the level of complexity proposed by the discipline objectives. The combination of specific gaming-techniques with simulation elements has been combined into designing the e-learning content. The degree of motivation and the interest in the discipline were appreciated by comparing the results obtained by students attending a blending-learning to those students who did the didactic activities in the traditional way. At present, there is a decrease in students’ interest in technical subjects. On one hand, the complexity of these disciplines is high, and moreover, in order for the students to achieve the didactic objectives of the discipline, they must make a sustained effort and combine the individual study with the explanations in the classroom.

Abstract:
Pagrindiniai žodžiai: mokslas, dalykai, disciplinos, transdisciplininis diskursas, transgresija.Transdisciplinary Project: Breakthrough in Synthesizing Science and PracticeSaulius Kanišauskas SummaryThe second half of the 20th century witnessed discontent with rigid distinction between science specializations, thus science integration processes which can be described in terms of multi-, poli-, pliurali-, inter-, trans- disciplinary started to evolve. The article attempts to show that the international term “discipline” has a significantly broader meaning than the Lithuanian term “subject”, which is perceived as a branch or field of science. It is maintained that the vulnerability degree of “disciplinary purity” should be the most important criterion which allows defining relation types of disciplines. However, conversely to other types of disciplinary integration, the transdisciplinary project rejects the requirement of “disciplinary purity” in principle. Moreover, the transdisciplinary project is first associated with striving to direct the academic science that it could satisfy the pragmatic social needs through introduction of non-academic factors. Also, the article points out that the “strong version” of the transdiciplinary project which focuses on the need to delve into fundamental questions of worldview and which attempts to consolidate all sciences faces serious ontological and epistemological problems. As a result, there is considerable danger that due to not solved epistemological problems, the transdisciplinary project is at risk to remain of apologetic character and a source of heuristics. Keywords: science, subjects, discipline, transdisciplinary discourse, transgression.

Abstract:
Introduction:the article is devoted to the identification of the specifics of the construction of a rating plan for the academic discipline. It is shown that the rating system, implemented in the university, is not a stable developing system. One of the reasons is the discrepancy between the three documents: the program on discipline, the rating-plan and the fund of evaluation tools for the academic discipline. The article reveals the author's approach to the development of a rating-plan, evaluation criteria and a fund of valuation means as component parts of methodical support for students in the study of the academic discipline.Materials and methods:in the article the key components of the rating system of evaluation are identified, the place of the rating-plan in the rating system of evaluation is determined, its role in establishing the connection between the program on discipline and the fund of valuation means is determined. The results of the research: the article establishes the specificity of the rating-plan construction, describes the evaluation tools and the form of their presentation in the rating plan and the fund of valuation means , and shows how to determine the rating scale. Examples are given of the construction of the rating- plan, criteria and scales of assessment, the decomposition of competences in the passport of the fund of valuation means. Recommendations are formulated on the development of the passport of the fund of valuation means, which ensure the coordination of the discipline program, of a rating- plan and the fund of valuation means.Discussion and conclusion: the article discusses the existing difficulties in the construction of a rating-plan and a fund of valuation means , analyzes typical errors in the selection of valuation tools, in the description of criteria and scales of assessment. The conclusion formulated in the article is that the rating-plan should be built as a mechanism for assessing the degree of competences formation, which clearly indicated the evaluation criteria and relevant indicators, scale of assessment. This mechanism should be disclosed in the fund of valuation means.

Physical activity, campus recreation (CR) use, body mass index (BMI), and varied health indices were compared between academic discipline groups and sex. Participants ( n = 219) were classified as AD I (kinesiology and physical education majors), AD II (health science majors and nursing majors), and AD III (representative sample of non-health-related majors) to make between-group comparisons based on the amount of emphasis placed on physical activity and health-related content within different disciplines. Significant differences ( p < .05) were found between the academic discipline groups for International Physical Activity Questionnaire scores, CR minutes, CR days, CR time per day, vigorous physical activity (VPA), and perceived-health score; and between sex for BMI, VPA, sitting, fiber intake, and fruit and vegetable intake. The results indicate a positive relationship between the emphasis placed physical activity and health within an academic discipline and the degree to which students participate in physical activity, positive health behaviors, and perceived health.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to show the necessity of developing the ability of conscious use of the fundamental discipline “Higher Mathematics” potential for a holistic solution of professional economic problems for students of economic specialities. This is only possible through interdisciplinary integration. It is shown that mathematics is a number of disciplines that are sometimes intersected, and sometimes significantly differ from each other in objects and research methods. As practice shows, quite often students’ knowledge in mathematics remains formal, and skills are unformed. For creation an integrative model of basic mathematical and economic disciplines, the article carries out two structural and logical analyses of the academic disciplines’ content: internal and external. The internal means a structural-logical analysis of the topics content of higher mathematics for identifying their leading positions and the main interconnecting elements within a given discipline. The external means a structural-logical analysis of the topics content of other disciplines specialty curriculum in order to determine the degree of their content overlap with the content of mathematical topics and the identification of “supporting” interdisciplinary knowledge that must be used for scientific and comprehensive reveal of the leading positions of higher mathematics.

Abstract:
Acknowledgement of gender disparity in academia has been made in recent years, as have efforts to reduce this inequality. These efforts will be undermined if insufficient numbers of women qualify and are competitive for academic careers. The gender ratio at each graduate degree level has been examined in some studies, with findings suggesting that women’s representation has increased, and in some recent cases, achieved equality. These findings are promising as they could indicate that more women will soon qualify for early-career academic positions. Most of these studies, however, examine a specific—or narrow subset—of academic disciplines. Therefore, it remains unclear if these findings generalize across disciplines. Gambling researchers, and the graduate students they supervise, are a uniquely heterogeneous group representing multiple academic disciplines including health sciences, math, law, psychology, and sociology, among many more. Thus, gambling student researchers are a group who can be examined for gender equality at postgraduate levels, while reducing the impact of discipline specificity evident in previous investigations. The current study examined graduate-level scholarships from one Canadian funding agency (Alberta Gambling Research Institute), awarded from 2009 through 2019, for gender parity independent of academic discipline.

Abstract:
The problem of teaching and formulating the tasks for the “Applied Geometry” discipline is considered in this paper. Currently, in aviation high educational institutions there is a tendency to reduce the number of hours allocated to graphic disciplines; in addition, “Descriptive Geometry” – the habitual name of the discipline – has been replaced by name “Applied Geometry”. This is certainly connected with the transition to learning on undergraduate programs, that implies a competency-based approach, i.e., training in accordance with the necessary knowledge and methods of activity in a particular area [4; 9; 23; 29; 30; 34]. The planned results of learning in “Applied Geometry” include knowledge of methods for solving applied engineering-geometric problems, as well as the ability to use the basic elements of applied geometry and engineering graphics in professional activities, and to solve specific applied problems of geometric modeling [4; 14; 20; 22; 32]. For these reasons arises the question of the need to adapt “Descriptive Geometry” to the requirements and programs for the training of bachelors, bringing it to conformity with the name “Applied Geometry” of the discipline. According to the results of “Applied Geometry” studying, students ought to gain experience and have the ability to independently solve cognitive, organizational and other problems related to their future professional activities [28–30]. In this paper is proposed a general approach to the formulation of “Applied Geometry” problems for cadets pursuing a bachelor's degree in “Air Navigation” (25.03.03) and “Operation of Airports and Flight Support of Aircraft” (25.03.04). Using rather simple examples, has been considered the possibility to formulate the problem in such a way that instead of the traditional formulation it could be applied for a specific bachelor's degree. As well has been considered a complex applied problem, which is suitable as a task for performing a computational and graphic work, since it integrates several topics of the discipline.

A Quantitative Study of Doctoral Candidates in Australia." International Journal of Doctoral Studies 16 (2021): 689–713. http://dx.doi.org/10.28945/4875.

Full text
Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: This paper investigates the association between publishing during doctoral candidature and completion time. The effects of discipline and of gaining additional support through a doctoral cohort program are also explored. Background: Candidates recognize the value of building a publication track record to improve their career prospects yet are cognizant of the time it takes to publish peer-reviewed articles. In some institutions or disciplines, there is a policy or the expectation that doctoral students will publish during their candidature. However, doctoral candidates are also under increasing pressure to complete their studies within a designated timeframe. Thus, some candidates and faculty perceive the two requirements – to publish and to complete on time – as mutually exclusive. Furthermore, where candidates have a choice in the format that the PhD submission will take, be it by monograph, PhD-by-publication, or a hybrid thesis, there is little empirical evidence available to guide the decision. This paper provides a quantitative analysis of the association between publishing during candidature and time-to-degree and investigates other variables associated with doctoral candidate research productivity and efficiency. Methodology: Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to examine the predictors (discipline [field of research], gender, age group, domestic or international student status, and belonging to a cohort program) of doctoral candidate research productivity and efficacy. Research productivity was quantified by the number of peer-reviewed journal articles that a candidate published as a primary author during and up to 24 months after thesis submission. Efficacy (time-to-degree) was quantified by the number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) years of candidature. Data on 1,143 doctoral graduates were obtained from a single Australian university for the period extending from 2000 to 2020. Complete publication data were available on 707 graduates, and time-to-degree data on 664 graduates. Data were drawn from eight fields of research, which were grouped into the disciplines of health, biological sciences, agricultural and environmental sciences, and chemical, earth, and physical sciences. Contribution: This paper addresses a gap in empirical literature by providing evidence of the association between publishing during doctoral candidature and time-to-degree in the disciplines of health, biological sciences, agricultural and environmental sciences, and chemical, earth, and physical sciences. The paper also adds to the body of evidence that demonstrates the value of belonging to a cohort program for doctoral student outcomes. Findings: There is a significant association between the number of articles published and median time-to-degree. Graduates with the highest research productivity (four or more articles) exhibited the shortest time-to-degree. There was also a significant association between discipline and the number of publications published during candidature. Gaining additional peer and research-focused support and training through a cohort program was also associated with higher research productivity and efficiency compared to candidates in the same discipline but not in receipt of the additional support. Recommendations for Practitioners: While the encouragement of candidates to both publish and complete within the recommended doctorate timeframe is recommended, even within disciplines characterized by high levels of research productivity, i.e., where publishing during candidature is the “norm,” the desired levels of student research productivity and efficiency are only likely to be achieved where candidates are provided with consistent writing and publication-focused training, together with peer or mentor support. Recommendation for Researchers: Publishing peer-reviewed articles during doctoral candidature is shown not to adversely affect candidates’ completion time. Researchers should seek writing and publication-focused support to enhance their research productivity and efficiency. Impact on Society: Researchers have an obligation to disseminate their findings for the benefit of society, industry, or practice. Thus, doctoral candidates need to be encouraged and supported to publish as they progress through their candidature. Future Research: The quantitative findings need to be followed up with a mixed-methods study aimed at identifying which elements of publication and research-focused support are most effective in raising doctoral candidate productivity and efficacy.

Abstract:
The subject of the research is the peculiarities of teaching the discipline “Agricultural Law” in institutions of higher education oriented towards the training of bachelors in the field of agriculture and agro-industrial complex. The author analyzes the Federal Educational Standard in Jurisprudence (bachelor degree course), educational standards of institutions of higher education authorized to develop them, and the curricula of some institutions of higher education for the presence of the discipline “Agricultural Law”. The author also gives attention to the up-to-date scientific literature in this discipline. The research is based on the methods of analysis, observation, description, the formal-legal method and sociological method. The author arrives at the following conclusions: 1) in specialized agricultural universities, even if they have the faculty of law, the discipline “Agricultural law” is often not taught in bachelor degree courses. The author suggests introducing the compulsory discipline “Agricultural Law” in field-oriented educational institutions (primarily those under the Ministry of Agriculture). 2) the author notes students’ low motivation for studying this discipline. 3) there’s a lack of up-to-date agricultural law textbooks.

Abstract:
One of the main reasons for acquiring a Bachelor's Degree is the perception of higher education as a means of improving graduates' financial status. In light of the increased accessibility of higher education, a growing number of students hope to use their studies as a financial springboard. In the current study we sought to examine this perception and to check whether and to what degree baccalaureate degrees indeed improve graduates' financial situation. In cooperation with Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics we gathered data on 6,091 graduates who completed their studies at the Ariel University Center during 2000-2008. Data analysis included exploring graduates' rate of employment and monthly salary from the day they began their academic studies until eight years later. We divided and distinguished between graduates by discipline and gender. The findings show that graduates earn almost three times the national average salary (and five times the median salary) and indicate employment rates of nearly 100%. Analysis of findings by discipline indicates that the most profitable fields are computer sciences and mathematics, engineering, and architecture. Salaries in the natural and social sciences and in the humanities are significantly lower both compared to the former fields and to the national average salary, at least for this eight year span. Analysis of the data by sex showed that the rate of employment among men is 12% higher than among women and that there is a disparity in employment within each discipline as well. Research conclusions show that academic degrees per se are not a guarantee of financial or occupational security. Employees with degrees in the social sciences and the humanities may find that their pay is no higher than those with no degree. One of the implications of this issue, already evident at this stage is that students are attempting to attain higher degrees in the hope of improving their financial status. The equation of a higher education with a higher income seems to involve other components as well, such as graduates' field of study, seniority on the job, and field of occupation.

Abstract:
Many school practitioners think of poverty as a kind of “culture,” characterized by dysfunctional behaviors that can only be corrected by imposing harsh discipline on students. Further, beliefs about poverty are often used to justify racial disparities in disciplinary referrals, achievement, and enrollment in gifted, AP, and honors courses, as well as to justify harsh punishments for “disobedience” or “disorderly conduct” or “disrespect.” Edward Fergus suggests that educators learn to understand their blind spots related to race and culture and to seek out feedback on the degree to which members of the school community experience bias.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the role played by academic discipline differences in terms of their influence on the acceptance of video technology being used for educational purposes by higher education students. The research model was based on Technology Acceptance Model in which academic discipline (hard, pure, soft, applied) was involved as a moderator variable.Data were collected from 240 students using a questionnaire on which the partial least-squares structural equation modelling and the Henseler's multi-group analysis were used to compare differences among academic discipline-groups. In summary, results show that the degree of importance attached to perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and attitude toward video use when students explain the intensity of their instructional video usage differs between hard/soft, and pure/applied academic disciplines. In the case of hard-pure subjects (e.g. natural sciences) and hard-applied subjects (e.g. engineering or computer science) the intensity of video usage, as a learning resource, is mostly determined by the students' expectations in relation to the effortlessness (or otherwise) of learning with videos. In the case of soft-pure subjects (such as sociology) and soft-applied subjects (such as law and business studies) positive/negative feelings associated with video usage also play an important role in the intensity of video usage as a learning resource. The degree to which a student believes that using videos would enhance his or her learning has a stronger influence on the intensity of video usage in the case of soft-pure subjects than in the case of soft-applied subjects.

Abstract:
Contemporary activity of a higher education teacher in the field of physical education and sports is characterized by a variety and complex content. To achieve the desired result in the physical education of students, such content must be subject to a clear logic of functioning and control. Any reasonable and rationally organized activity in the field of physical education and sports can be divided into such components as: planning, implementation, control and accounting. The unity of the functioning of these components will allow you to most effectively build and manage the process of physical education in the organization of higher education. The problem of control and accounting of physical education of students is one of the most urgent pedagogical problems, since the success of the entire process of physical education in the organization of the higher education depends on the control and accounting. To improve the physical education of students in the organization of higher education, an in-depth development of the control and accounting fund for the content and methods is necessary. We reveal the content and methods of control and accounting of student performance (bachelor’s degree students) in elective discipline “Volleyball”.

Abstract:
A reduction in the planet’s biodiversity requires an active response by politicians, environmental activists, and scientists. Modern biological education should provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to solve complex tasks targeted at preserving and restoring vulnerable species habitats and ecosystems. Students study conservation biology at many universities around the world with this as their goal. For the first time in Russia, a Master’s Conservation Biology course for biology students was developed and tested at Novosibirsk State University. This primer course (108 hours) includes lectures, discussions, excursions, elements of gamification, combines auditorium and online classes, uses social networks for additional communication with students, and experienced practitioners. The course has been highly rated by students and can be expanded to include a larger audience.

Abstract:
Abstract Lexical bundles are recurring frequent word combinations. Research has shown that lexical bundles vary in genre and register (Biber 2006; Biber, Conrad and Cortes 2004; Hyland 2008a, 2008b; Scott and Tribble 2006). However, the degree to which they vary by discipline remains inconclusive. The main aim of this paper is to establish whether lexical bundles are discipline specific, i.e., whether each discipline draws on a specialized lexical repertoire or whether there is a core vocabulary shared across various disciplines. For that purpose, maritime texts covering the subdomains marine engineering, navigation, maritime law and shipping have been collected so as to investigate the structure and function of lexical bundles and to find out how they shape meaning in specialized discourse. For the purposes of the study, a 7.4 M corpus consisting of two monolingual subcorpora and one bilingual subcorpus was compiled. This corpus can be used as a basis for further studies in the field. Furthermore, the paper discusses problems encountered while extracting N-grams from a corpus, as well as classification criteria for the identification of lexical bundles. The results show that lexical bundles identified in maritime texts are phrasal rather than clausal. The results also indicate that lexical bundles are discipline specific. Teaching these specialized features that shape discourse can improve students’ language production and should thus be the focus of instruction in ESP.
