Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to measure the degree of interdisciplinary collaboration in Big Data research based on the co-occurrences of subject categories using Stirling’s diversity index and specialization index. Design/methodology/approach Interdisciplinarity was measured utilizing the descriptive statistics of disciplines, network indicators showing relationships between disciplines and within individual disciplines, interdisciplinary communities, Stirling’s diversity index and specialization index, and a strategic diagram revealing the development status and trends of discipline communities. Findings Comprehensively considering all results, the degree of interdisciplinarity of Big Data research is increasing over time, particularly, after 2013. There is a high level of interdisciplinarity in Big Data research involving a large number of disciplines, but it is unbalanced in distribution. The interdisciplinary collaborations are not intensive on the whole; most disciplines are aggregated into a few distinct communities with computer science, business and economics, mathematics, and biotechnology and applied microbiology as the core. Four major discipline communities in Big Data research represent different directions with different development statuses and trends. Community 1, with computer science as the core, is the most mature and central to the whole interdisciplinary network. Accounting for all network indicators, computer science, engineering, business and economics, social sciences, and mathematics are the most important disciplines in Big Data research. Originality/value This study deepens our understanding of the degree and trend of interdisciplinary collaboration in Big Data research through a longitudinal study and quantitative measures based on two indexes. It has practical implications to study and reveal the interdisciplinary phenomenon and characteristics of related developments of a specific research area, or to conduct comparative studies between different research areas.

Abstract:
The paper investigates how Information Systems (IS) has emerged as the product of interdisciplinary discourses. The research aim in this study is to better understand diversity in IS research, and the extent to which the diversity of discourse expanded and contracted from 1995 to 2011. Methodologically, we apply a combined citations/co-citations analysis based on the eight Association for Information Systems basket journals and the 22 subject-field classification framework provided by the Association of Business Schools. Our findings suggest that IS is in a state of continuous interaction and competition with other disciplines. General Management was reduced from a dominant position as a reference discipline in IS at the expense of a growing variety of other discourses including Business Strategy, Marketing, and Ethics and Governance, among others. Over time, IS as a field moved from the periphery to a central position during its discursive formation. This supports the notion of IS as a fluid discipline dynamically embracing a diverse range of adjacent reference disciplines, while keeping a degree of continuing interaction with them. Understanding where IS is currently at allows us to better understand and propose fruitful avenues for its development in both academia and practice.

Abstract:
The development of electronic study guides (ESG) for Bachelor’s disciplines enables to reduce procurement costs for print library collections. Posting of ESGs on the University Internet resources will provide their accessibility and usability, so the subject is topical. The article analyzes the experience of developing electronic study guides for the disciplines of basic professional bachelor’s degree programs in various universities and reviews the literature on this subject. The main features that distinguish ESG from paper teaching materials are the following: multimedia presentation of information, interactivity, dynamic content. In addition, remote interaction between a teacher and students in forums or video conferences is possible, depending on the format of the ESG. Furthermore, ESG allows one to remotely monitor the completeness and timeliness of the study of certain topics of the discipline, unlike other types of educational and methodological support. The implementation of the ESG makes it possible to maintain control in two forms: internal and external. There are also such criteria for assessing the quality of ESG as: proportion in ensuring the total volume of discipline, proportion in ensuring the self-directed student work, quality of design, the effectiveness of multimedia, adaptability, level of remote access. The result of the analysis was the development of requirements for the ESG design for the discipline «Structure and calculation of engines». This discipline includes the basics of structure and calculation elements and systems of internal combustion engines and the processes occurring in them. In Perm National Research Polytechnic University, according to the curriculum, the discipline is studied for 2 semesters; the labor intensity is 7 credits. Classroom lessons consist of lectures, laboratory and practical classes, additionally, coursework was provided. The difficulty of organizing and maintaining a laboratory in working condition is due to high labor and material costs for fuels and lubricants, electricity, forced-air ventilation, maintenance and repair of internal combustion engines, etc. In this regard, it is relevant to use simulation methods and create virtual laboratory benches to determine the characteristics of the internal combustion engine. These benches may be considered as an alternative to field experiments and stands. As a result of the generalization experience, it was possible to draw up general requirements to the structure and content of the ESG and to provide recommendations on the development of ESGs taking into account the specifics of applied bachelor’s programs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to trace the knowledge diffusion patterns between the publications of top journals of computer science and physics to uncover the knowledge diffusion trends. Design/methodology/approach The degree of information flow between the disciplines is a measure of entropy and received citations. The entropy gives the uncertainty in the citation distribution of a journal; the more a journal is involved in spreading information or affected by other journals, its entropy increases. The citations from outside category give the degree of inter-disciplinarity index as the percentage of references made to papers of another discipline. In this study, the topic-related diffusion across computer science and physics scholarly communication network is studied to examine how the same research topic is studied and shared across disciplines. Findings For three indicators, Shannon entropy, citations outside category (COC) and research keywords, a global view of information flow at the journal level between both disciplines is obtained. It is observed that computer science mostly cites knowledge published in physics journals as compared to physics journals that cite knowledge within the field. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that traces knowledge diffusion trends between computer science and physics publications at journal level using entropy, COC and research keywords.

Our rapidly growing, data-driven culture is motivating curriculum change in nearly every discipline, not the least of which is information science. This article explores this change specifically within the iSchool community, in which information science is a major unifying discipline. A cross-institutional analysis of data-related curricula was conducted across 65 iSchools. Results show that a majority of iSchools examined (37 out of 65, 56.9%) currently offer some form of data-related education, particularly at the master’s level, and that approximately 15% of their formal degree offerings have a data focus. Overall, iSchools have a greater emphasis on data science and big data analytics, with only a few programmes providing focused curricula in the area of digital curation. Recommendations are made for iSchools to leverage the interdisciplinary nature of information science, publish curricula and track graduate success so that iSchools may excel in educating information professionals in the data area. Future data education in iSchools may benefit from further interdisciplinary data education, including data curation curricula.

Abstract:
Big data (BD) is one of the emerging topics in the field of information systems. This article utilized citation and co-citation analysis to explore research articles in the field of BD to examine the scientific development in the area. The research data was retrieved from the WOS database from the period between 2005 and June 2016, which consists of 366 articles. In the citation analysis, this article relies on the degree centrality and betweenness centrality for identifying 38 important papers in BD. In the co-citation analysis, a principal component factor analysis of the co-citation matrix is employed for identifying six major research themes: foundations, BD applications, techniques and technologies, challenges, adoption and impacts and literature review. This literature review is one of the first studies to examine the knowledge structure of BD research in the information systems discipline by using evidence-based analysis methods. Recommendations for future research directions in BD are provided based on the analysis and results of this study.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of studying the characteristics of the workshop design process of the actively developing science-intensive areas that have a high degree of variability of the technologies used and the requirements for the skills of specialists in the industry. The approach to organizing the automated design process for the daily workshops on the basis of expert opinions of the trainees’ employers has been proposed. The approach implements the model of pedagogical design ADDIE at the stages of analysis and design and involves four stages: calculating the degree of trust in experts, selecting learning tasks for the discipline, developing the structure of the workshop taking into account the relevance of each learning task of the discipline for a particular training profile, and calculating the complexity and assessments (points) tasks for each profile. According to the introduced rule of assessment, calculation of weight coefficients for each of the learning tasks and the rule of ranking the selected tasks are arranged in the optimal order for studying, and an individual learning path for each professional profile is formed. The methods and algorithms described can be used to develop information systems for designing a workshop. A software package for instrumental and information support has been developed. It implements all the calculation and ranking functions and appears a system for the workshop automated design. Using this system and the proposed approach, the structure and the list of learning tasks of the workshop on the discipline “Embedded Systems” are formed. The proposed solutions allow an iterative assessment of the relevance of learning tasks of the discipline taking into account the expert opinions of potential employers and improve the real model of training specialists due to the high practical importance of the workshop and, as a result, to the high motivation of the trainees to obtain professional practical skills that are in demand in the labor market.

Experience of training in machine-readable cataloguing at the Kemerovo State Institute of Culture is reviewed. Training in machine-readable cataloguing is implemented for specialization “Library information activities” (Chair of Document Communication Technologies). Within the profile of “Information Analysis” and “Technology of Integrated Library Information Systems” training in machine-readable cataloguing is provided within several courses, namely: "Analytic and synthetic information processing", "Library reference and information retrieval apparatus", "Local information needs support and services”, "Integrated library information systems”. Professional competences, knowledge and skills of machine-readable cataloguing required by the Federal State Standard 51.0.3.06 "Library and information activities" and the draft professional standard "Specialist in the sphere of library information activities" are discussed, along with their implementation in the above mentioned disciplines. The methodological support of the disciplines is characterized. The internship in machine-readable cataloging and corresponding certification for acquiring bachelor’s degree are also reviewed. The subject scope of research works in machine-readable cataloging for bachelor’s and master’s degrees is discussed. The authors emphasize that the education process, its theoretical and practical content, benefits from the close collaboration between Kemerovo State Institute of Culture and Siberian libraries, RF major library centers and specialized businesses.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to challenge librarians to reconceptualize their professional self-image and practice so that it more closely aligns with the information science discipline that is part of the Masters of Library and Information Science degree. Design/methodology/approach This column is primarily theoretical and philosophical but also draws on the author’s observations of trends and patterns in both librarianship and changes in information needs in recent years. Findings Urgent, high-cost information needs created by COVID-19 and climate change coexist in a reality where technological change has made traditional librarian roles and functions less critical. By developing their information science skills and strengthening their professional identity as information scientists, librarians have the opportunity to address the urgent information needs of the day while remaining highly relevant professionals. Practical implications Librarians will need to strengthen their science-related skills and knowledge and begin to promote themselves as information scientists. Social implications Librarians are in a position to make a meaningful contribution to two of the most pressing challenges of the day, climate change and dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Originality/value This paper is relevant to all librarians at any stage of their career. It will help them to reflect on both their skillset and career path and to make any needed adjustments so that they can remain relevant in a volatile and demanding information environment.

The status of Information Systems (IS) as a discipline has been widely debated as a body of knowledge that offers a number of concepts, methods and techniques to understand and improve the roles of information communication systems and technologies in organizations. Current state of this debate as reported in academic journals signals an imperative to ground some of the perspectives in relation to what IS professionals use in practice in different cultural and geographical contexts. This paper aims to contribute to the debate by tracing the unfolding of information systems as a body of knowledge using the ideas of Abbott on disciplines. We use three different stages of a discipline's development: differentiation, conflict and absorption and map them using a citation and co-citation analyses of two main IS journals (EJIS and MISQ) in the period between 1995 and 2008. Our results indicate that dominant ideas and models to investigate IS phenomena emerged over time are behavioural based and study IS adoption/acceptance/rejection in organisations, many of which are predictive and thus lending themselves usable for positivistic quantitative and qualitative research. There are however stable varieties within IS building on interpretivism and constructivism that we need to recognise and reignite in order to ensure that this field continues moving forward, in particular in studying current and future processes of innovation and diffusion of technology worldwide. Teaching and research tend to be seen as heterogeneous activities, yet in debates in the literature, they are often treated by inference as essentially homogeneous activities (Scott, 2003). Positivistic focused research studies, such as those of Terenzini and Pascarella (1994) and Hattie and Marsh (1996, 2002) on the nexus between teaching and research tend to ‘measure’ research output to evaluate teaching performance. These studies have concluded that, if a relationship between teaching and research did exist, it was marginal at best. Interpretive based studies, (Neumann, 1992, 1993; Rowland, 2000, 2004; Brew, 2003a, 2003b, 2004, and Jenkins, 2005) suggest that academic staff believe a nexus does exist between teaching, research and scholarship. The research philosophy adopted for this research is a (reflexive) phenomenological approach (practice shaping theory), used to structure UK IS/IM academics’ perception surrounding the nexus between teaching, research, scholarship and consultancy. Both quantitative and qualitative data has been obtained, comprising the results from a web-based questionnaire, (with a 30% response rate) and the analysis of twelve semi-structured interviews with six staff from a teaching-led university, and six staff from a research-led university. This research has found that a nexus is perceived to exist and is perceived to inform teaching practices between certain academic activities. Namely, teaching is informed via the process and product of research consultancy, but research and consultancy practices are not informed by teaching. In addition, this research has found that a nexus exists between research and consultancy and that this relationship is bi-directional. The area of scholarship is found to be messy and problematic in any nexus relationship. This research argues when conceptualising and enacting a nexus between teaching, research, scholarship and consultancy that a complex adaptive systems perspective is needed and that the nexus relationship should be relabelled a plexus web.

Abstract:
Information technology audit has proven to be a relatively new, less researched and rapidly expanding field among large, medium and even small businesses (commercial and non-commercial organisations). The implementation rate has grown rapidly and presents a huge growth market for audit consultants due to the need for transparency and compliance with regulation (for example: Sarbanes Oxley Act) and the need to be competitive in the marketplace. The audit process is being conducted mainly by consultants following a traditional process but using different proprietary approaches and mostly done manually. The purpose of this study is to present a scientific method to attach a purely measurement focus to the auditing process so as to provide an auditing as well as a quantitative outcome of the performance to the various IS entities that are audited using a novel automated method that can save organisations considerable resources in terms of time, cost and effort. The nature of the topic directed the researcher to three domains of information system (IS) namely studies on IS measurement, IT governance and software engineering. These areas provided information on the nature of IS measurement and the models used; the process of auditing/measurement and the corresponding frameworks used; the principles and methodology of measurement of IS entities; and measurement models used both in the software engineering and information systems domain. The review of the literature gave rise to the research question and the COBIT-GQM (Control Objectives for Information Technology Audit) – Goal Question Metrics) model. The research question that had emerged out of the four propositions “How can an IT audit or governance framework be used to measure the effectiveness of IS entities in a scientific manner using customised and goal oriented metrics” along with the nature of data sought (positivist), guided the researcher to qualitative research using multiple case studies to test the theoretical model (grounded theory) that had emerged out of the literature review. The theoretical model was automated (with a front end interface and a back-end database) and initially tested for usability issues. Then the common COBIT control objective that was obtained through an initial survey was entered into the database along with a set of questions and metrics (developed by the researcher by following the given GQM guidelines). This application that was demonstrated, and given for evaluation in four organisations gave rise to expected and surprising results. While the respondents expressed their desire to incorporate a customised and goal oriented measurement perspective to their IT audit/performance functions, that would save them time, effort and cost, numerous suggestions were provided that need to be incorporated into the model to make it fully functional. Notable among them are the need to embed a multiple contextual qualifying layer, incorporating benchmarking feature to the model, and the need to link this with the maturity model. These were incorporated into the model and a comprehensive model incorporating all the suggestions was created. The qualitative case study method being used here more to evaluate a theory, provided a sound base for future studies to generate hypothesis that can be evaluated using quantitative survey methods for the model to be generalised. IT auditing being a relatively new, less researched, conventional and high growth oriented field, the use of an innovative, comprehensive, automated and scientific method of audit and measurement method will satisfy the implied need for organisations to incorporate the diverse audit/measurement/ control/standards into one comprehensive method and this research is a major step in this direction. Since the new model is comprehensive and can be automated organisations can economise in terms of time, cost and effort. Irrespective of the nature of economic cycle the need for economising in terms of cost, time and effort is universal for all organisations.

In its early years, this university distinguished itself through unique program offerings in both the traditional and nontraditional formats. Competition for student enrollments among higher education institutions has become fierce and programs offered in flexible formats are no longer unique to this university. Research was performed and a survey instrument was developed to measure levels of student satisfaction with the program. Enrolled students representing the traditional on-campus format and the nontraditional online format formed the two independent test groups. The survey was administered and statistically analyzed to measure the student's level of satisfaction with the program. Study findings included: (I) more than 65 percent of the responses from the total sample agreed or strongly agreed with all of the statements in the instrument; (2) the online and on-campus means for total sample were nearly identical; (3) more than 50 percent of the respondents had completed less than 4 classes; (4) less than 10 percent of the respondents had completed 9 or more classes; (5) about 51 percent of the respondents were more than 36 years old. Results revealed that in all measurements of student satisfaction in this study, no significant differences between the online and on-campus groups were found. Nova Southeastern University has not only pioneered unique models of delivery but the results of this study indicate their students were satisfied. In an era when most higher education institutions are reporting more than 32 percent student attrition this program has maintained an attrition rate of less than 10 percent. It appears that Nova Southeastern University has created a desirable model that other institutions may want to study and emulate.

The article highlights the medical and biological aspects of ensuring the safe life of people in adverse environmental conditions, including in regions with hot and cold climates (the Arctic). The methods of forecasting and assessing the medical situation in emergency zones and lesions are presented. The means and methods of medical and biological protection and first aid to the affected are shown. The main tasks and organizational structure of formations and institutions of the medical rescue service of the GO, the All-Russian Service of Disaster Medicine and medical formations of the EMERCOM of Russia are considered. Organizational issues of medical and biological protection in emergency situations are highlighted. The features of the organization of medical support for those affected by terrorist attacks are considered. Design of haptic devices requires trade-off between many conflicting requirements, such as high stiffness, large workspace, small inertia, low actuator force/torque, and a small size of the device. With the traditional design and optimization process, it is difficult to effectively fulfill the system requirements by separately treating the different discipline domains. To solve this problem and to avoid sub-optimization, this work proposes a design methodology, based on Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) methods and tools, for design optimization of six degree-of-freedom (DOF) haptic devices for medical applications, e.g. simulators for surgeon and dentist training or for remote surgery. The proposed model-based and simulation-driven methodology aims to enable different disciplines and subsystems to be included in the haptic device optimization process by using a robust model architecture that integrates discipline-specific models in an optimization framework and thus enables automation of design activities in the concept and detail design phase. Because of the multi-criteria character of the performance requirements, multi-objective optimization is included as part of the proposed methodology. Because of the high-level requirements on haptic devices for medical applications in combination with a complex structure, models such as CAD (Computer Aided Design), CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), and kinematic models are considered to be integrated in the optimization process and presenting a systems view to the design engineers. An integration tool for MDO is used as framework to manage, integrate, and execute the optimization process. A case study of a 6-DOF haptic device based on a TAU structure is used to illustrate the proposed methodology. With this specific case, a Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) with an initial population based on a pseudo random SOBOL sequence and Monte Carlo samplings is used for the optimization.

Ten types of generalized structural modules are offered, which allow to create schemes and to investigate kinematics of lever mechanisms of the second class of any degree of complexity. In this work structuring of various flat mechanisms schemes with any possible number of members based on only 5 types of generalized structural groups is presented. These are a rotating initial link, an onward moving link, a two-driver group with three rotary kinematics couples and two-driver groups with two rotary and one external forward kinematics couples of two types. VSE is broadly used in education process when performing the course designing on engineering discipline.

This article seeks to investigate the new paradigms of digital form and their application to the design process as a way to integrate service design from the very beginning of the process. It addresses a review of the generation of design in the key of "activity of conformation of open strategies". The aim is to open a deep reflection that allows an evolution of the understanding of the discipline of design linked to the outdated definition of "task of formalization of finished objects", which is widespread and still widely assumed. It is undeniable that engineering, urban planning, architecture, graphic design, product design, experience design and fashion design all share a common objective: all of them, in the end, can be considered as "service design".Indeed, each of the modalities of contemporary design and creation involves providing conceptual and oper-ational responses to needs (functional, aesthetic, symbolic, structural, social, individual). In short, creative activity consists of interpreting requirements and constraints in the most creative and efficient way possible. Design is not so much concerned with the need to produce "finished" objects, whether tangible or intangible. Contemporary design aims to create "formal laws", flexible and open, that can be applied according to the changing scenarios posed by today's users. To design digitally today is to create logical structures of data, algorithms and open results. This article rais-es the possibility of designing -from the genesis of the design- by integrating data referring to users and their algo-rithms as the basis of the formal, diagrammatic or structural law of the design solution. From clear mathematical rules and their parameterization, we propose the generation of the base structure of the "digital contemporary design"; from the exposition of data to the generation of “empty form”. In order to that, a preliminary reflection on the Technical drawing / CAD / BIM is proposed as well as describing the languages of the contemporary Design project (data and algorithms necessary for the construction of the form by topological transformations on simple forms). This is a con-temporary way of understanding the generation of the “empty form”. A "prepared" and "structured" format for the subsequent acquisition of successive layers of information (user data) that would trigger the "virtual twin" of the de-sign. Designing by means of topological transformations is an essential exercise in the foundations of digital culture: working with this type of algorithm is the main work of CAD programs. The conception of contemporary design must increasingly take into account the digital era, which constitutes the paradigm of our culture. The ideation and formalization of the actions that define design, architecture, urbanism and the physical environment, go through the management of formal operations within information systems that com-bine identity, visuality, materiality, measurement, financing, parameterization, industrialization, construction mainte-nance and, of course, interaction with users and systems. This phenomenon once again highlights the importance of geometry and drawing as fundamental disciplines that sustain the solid foundations of design education in the Univer-sity.Finally, the article addresses the urgency of defining new methodologies for the design process to ensure that design does not remain a mere "cultural response" to the technical advances produced by science, nor is it a purely intuitive process that proposes images but dispenses with the technical language of its time. We defend the activity of design as a purely contemporary task, which must be generated with the languages and methodologies of our current (and future) time, and for which it must have the possibility of integrating data and adapting to them with flexibility. In this way, any kind of design can be considered "service design" because it will "serve" effectively, avoiding the unnecessary iterations pursued by the LEAN system, which make human actions on reality inefficient and unsustaina-ble. This paper presents the brand status of the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) degree program at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). The IDE degree was founded in 2005 at UMR to meet the emerging need to provide considerable flexibility to students allowing them to construct programs of study in areas of interest while maintaining a solid and rigorous foundation in mechanics, thermal science, electrical networks and linear systems. Students are able to pursue studying the latest technological fields through a collection of “tracks” enabled by the flexibility of the curriculum. This modern degree program houses energetic motivated students interested in a variety of disciplines from product design and amusement park fundamentals to industrial automation and control. The first students graduated the IDE program in December 2007. This facilitated the evaluation of IDE’s current brand status, preparation of its future marketing plans, and sharing these findings with other universities interested in increasing student retention and broadening their demographic of engineering students. This paper presents the brand status of the IDE BS degree among prospective and current students, academic faculty, and industry and weighs it against the original implementation plan proposed in 2005 at the inception of the program at Missouri S&T. This brand management study provides the current perception of the new degree program and suggestions improving the perception IDE has as a field of engineering.

The requirements engineering of hybrid products is an important field that still has a paucity of investigation to date. This paper analyzes the suitability of product development methods for the requirements engineering (RE) of hybrid products. The strengths and shortcomings of these methods regarding hybrid products are stated and fields of improvement are derived. To successfully differentiate from competitors, classic products are no longer sufficient. Therefore, many companies offer holistic solutions to customers’ problems. These solutions consist of bundles of classic products, software and services called hybrid products or product service systems (PSS). Hybrid products are characterized by a high number of components that are developed by different disciplines, by a high degree of technological integration and by a high degree of customer-integration. Due to their unique characteristics, hybrid products need holistic handling. Especially interesting is the specification and handling of the requirements for hybrid products called requirements engineering. This phase of the development process is very important for the later success of the product. The characteristics of hybrid products were thoroughly analyzed, and requirements of the RE for hybrid products were derived. A structured literature review was carried out to find the state-of-the-art of RE in product development including common textbooks and publications on respected conferences and journals in product engineering. In total, 15 textbooks, 79 journal articles and 137 articles of conference proceedings were analyzed. This provided the state-of-the-art of RE indicating the approaches used. An important aspect of the research was the matching of these approaches to the requirements defined earlier. This resulted in a list of 13 fields of RE presenting the strengths and shortcomings of the approaches in detail from which two major fields of improvement could be derived, those which need to be addressed in practice. The results show that RE for hybrid products has special needs, particularly in interdisciplinary cooperation and customer integration. The methods for RE in product development are well elaborated upon, but need to be adapted to hybrid products. There is a need for further analysis and integration of RE into the overall development process of hybrid products, as well as further development of hybrid products in practice.

A separate aspect of the TODOS IT platform is the possibility of using a centralized web-oriented learning environment. Creation of the system and transdisciplinary knowledge is a problem of modern education, which can be solved by creating a centralized web-oriented educational environment. Using this approach is an important part of the learning process. Such a centralized web-oriented environment based on the ontological approach involves filling, adaptive educational services with information resources that reflect the conceptual system of a particular discipline. One of the systems providing not only collection of information but include its systemizing is centralized web-oriented educational environment based on Ontology4 system. Ontology 4 use elements of the TODOS. The paper presents specific developments of one centralized web-oriented educational environment can be used to teach different subjects such as biology, chemistry, Ukrainian language and literature, using the STEM approach.

The development of the information society and technological progress are significantly influenced by the learning tools. Therefore, to the variety of tools that could be used to support the study of any discipline new ones emerging lately are continuously being added. Along with the great deal of systems of computer mathematics (SCM), web-oriented versions of SCM mathematical applications and other math learning tools the cloud-based versions of mathematical software such as MapleNet, MATLAB web-server, WebMathematica and others are now being used. These tools accomplishment becomes the essential part of training mathematics teachers. Domestic and foreign experiences of using cloud services for forming professional competences of mathematics teachers are analyzed. The place of the CoCalc within the system of mathematical disciplines learning tools is investigated. The task of improving the math teachers’ ICT competence by means of cloud services use in the process of training is considered. Among the new forms of learning rising along with the cloud services dissemination are such as collaborative learning, inquiry-based learning, person-oriented learning. At the same time, the use of the appropriate cloud service in the study of some mathematical discipline improves the assimilation of the learning material and improves the knowledge acquisition process on most topics. The analysis of current research of Ukrainian scientists on the problem in question shows that the progress is underway as for further elaboration and implementation of new learning methods and techniques of using cloud services in the higher education institutions.

The use of digital technology in various fields of education today is one of the most important trends in the educational process in the world. The article presents the results of the analysis of the current state of implementation of ICT in the educational process of institutions of general secondary education in Ukraine. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among students of the first year of the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University, within which 17 questions were asked to students related to the use of information and communication technologies in the educational process. The article describes the process of developing a chatbot to provide students with information about schedules using the Telegram mobile messenger. During the research, the following tasks have been performed: the analysis of notification systems for their use in the educational process, identification of problems of notifying students about the schedule (dynamic environment, traditional presentation of information, lack of round-the-clock access), substantiation of the choice of mobile technologies and Telegram messenger, determination of the requirements to the software, generalization of the chatbot functioning features, description of the structure, functionality of the program to get information about the schedule using a chatbot. The following tasks have been programmatically implemented: obtaining data from several pages of a spreadsheet (faculty / institute, red / green week, group number, day of the week, period number, discipline name, information about the teacher); presentation of data in a convenient form for the messenger (XML); implementation of the mechanism of convenient presentation of data in the messenger (chatbot). Using Python and the Telegram API, the software has been designed to increase students; immediacy in getting the information about the schedules, minimizing the time spent, and optimizing of planning of student activities and higher education institution functioning.

The article presents and describes innovative technologies of training in the professional training of Masters. For high-quality training of students of technical specialties, it becomes necessary to rethink the purpose, results of studying and means of teaching professional disciplines in modern educational conditions. The experience of implementing the chatbot tool in teaching the discipline “Mathematical modeling of socio-economic systems” in the educational and professional program 124 System Analysis is described. The characteristics of the generalized structure of the chatbot information system for investment analysis are presented and given: input information, information processing system, output information, which creates a closed cycle (system) of direct and feedback interaction. The information processing system is represented by accounting and analytical data management blocks. The investment analysis chatbot will help masters of the specialty system analysis to manage the investment process efficiently based on making the right decisions, understanding investment analysis in the extensive structure of financial management and optimizing risks in these systems using a working mobile application. Also, the chatbot will allow you to systematically assess the disadvantages and advantages of investment projects or the direction of activity of a system analyst, while increasing interest in performing practical tasks. A set of software for developing a chatbot integrated into training is installed: Kotlin programming, a library for network interaction Retrofit, receiving and transmitting data, linking processes using the HTTP API. Based on the results of the study, it is noted that the impact of integrating a chatbot into the training of Masters ensures the development of their professional activities, which gives them the opportunity to be competent specialists and contributes to the organization of high-quality training.

As all aspects of the American workplace become automated or digitally enhanced to some degree, K12 educators have an increasing responsibility to help their students acquire the technical skills necessary to organize and interpret information. Increasingly, this is done through Geographic Information Systems (GIS), especially in careers related to transportation and logistics. The Center for International Trade & Transportation (CITT) at CSU Long Beach has developed this K12 Special Investigation Project to introduce ArcGIS StoryMaps, an engaging, accessible and sophisticated web-based GIS application. The lessons center on e-commerce and its accompanying environmental and economic impact. Still, the activities can be easily adapted to projects in any subject area, such as humanities, science, math, or language arts. This teacher blueprint includes a teacher training guide with ten detailed lesson plans and activities. With the guidance of a National Board-Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence Math as lead instructor, the curriculum is designed to align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Also, exploration of STEM and GIS-related careers are incorporated into the lesson plans.

Fossil fuel power plants are complex systems containing multiple components that create extreme environments for the purpose of extracting usable energy. Failures in the system can lead to increased down time for the plant, reduction of power and significant cost for repairs. In the past, inspections and maintenance of the plant's superheater tubes has been predominantly manual, laborious, and extremely time consuming. This is due to the pipe's small diameter size (between 1.3 and 7.6 cm) and the coiled structure of the tubing. In addition, the tubes are often stacked close to each other, limiting access for external inspection. Detection of pipe degradation, such as increased levels of corrosion, creep, and the formation of micro-cracks is possible using standard non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods, including ultrasonic, radiography and electromagnetic methods. However, when the access to the sub-systems is limited or the configuration of the structure is prohibitive, alternative methods are needed for deploying the NDE tools. This research effort considers a novel robotic inspection system for the evaluation of small pipes found in typical boiler superheaters that have limited access. The pipe crawler system is an internal inspection device that can potentially navigate through the entire pipe length using linear actuators to grip the walls and inch along the pipe. The modular nature of the system allows it to traverse through straight sections and multiple 90-degree and 180-degree bends. The crawler is also capable of providing visual inspections, ultrasonic thickness measurements, and generating inner diameter surface maps using LiDAR (light detection and ranging). Ultimately, the development of this robotic inspection tool can provide information regarding the structural integrity of key pipeline components in fossil fuel power plants that are not easily accessible

As artistic research work in various disciplines and national contexts continues to develop, the diversity of approaches to the field becomes ever more apparent. This is to be welcomed, because it keeps alive ideas of plurality and complexity at a particular time in history when the gross oversimplifications and obfuscations of political discourses are compromising the nature of language itself, leading to what several commentators have already called ‘a post-truth’ world. In this brutal environment where ‘information’ is uncoupled from reality and validated only by how loudly and often it is voiced, the artist researcher has a responsibility that goes beyond the confines of our discipline to articulate the truth-content of his or her artistic practice. To do this, they must embrace daring and risk-taking, finding ways of communicating that flow against the current norms. In artistic research, the empathic communication of information and experience – and not merely the ‘verbally empathic’ – is a sign of research transferability, a marker for research content. But this, in some circles, is still a heretical point of view. Research, in its more traditional manifestations mistrusts empathy and individually-incarnated human experience; the researcher, although a sentient being in the world, is expected to behave dispassionately in their professional discourse, and with a distrust for insights that come primarily from instinct. For the construction of empathic systems in which to study and research, our structures still need to change. So, we need to work toward a new world (one that is still not our idea), a world that is symptomatic of what we might like artistic research to be. Risk is one of the elements that helps us to make the conceptual twist that turns subjective, reflexive experience into transpersonal, empathic communication and/or scientifically-viable modes of exchange. It gives us something to work with in engaging with debates because it means that something is at stake. To propose a space where such risks may be taken, I shall revisit Gillian Rose’s metaphor of ‘the fold’ that I analysed in the first Symposium presented by the Arne Nordheim Centre for Artistic Research (NordART) at the Norwegian Academy of Music in November 2015. I shall deepen the exploration of the process of ‘unfolding’, elaborating on my belief in its appropriateness for artistic research work; I shall further suggest that Rose’s metaphor provides a way to bridge some of the gaps of understanding that have already developed between those undertaking artistic research and those working in the more established music disciplines.
