Abstract:

Abstract:
Straipsnyje analizuojamas decorum principų taikymas rūmų architektūroje Lietuvoje XVIII amžiuje. Atvejo studijai pasirinkti XVIII a. pabaigoje statyti grafų Zabielų Paežerių dvaro rūmai.

Abstract:
At least since Cicero, the notion of decorum has been a key element in the education of public speakers as well as in the reflections on what public speaking is or should be. The current media climate seems saturated with emotional debates about appropriateness, debates where the questions of what is fitting is not relegated to the margins but rather situated at the very heart of what the debate is about. This article investigates aspects of accusations of breached decorum, guided by the assumption that this type of kategoria often follows a narrative logic: accusations retrospectively tell a story about a breach of decorum while prospectively using this story to constitute group identities. The objects of the study are artefacts from the Trump campaign’s accusations of breaches of decorum, following from Clinton’s statement that half of the potential Trump voters could be considered deplorable

Abstract:
Abstract Martin Amis’s London Trilogy constitutes a body of work that has variously been categorised as comic, satirical, or simply postmodern. Given these assessments, the present essay concentrates on forms and functions of dialogue in these novels to identify its use as a generic marker. What emerges is that – while individual passages of dialogue are demonstratively structured along conventional generic lines – their function is to temporarily mislead the reader into trusting those ostensibly univocal signals, and thus contributing to their undermining by the remainder of the text. Fusing divergent generic aspects together into a form that is here termed anti-comedy, and consistently establishing and undermining readers’ expectations is one of the central functions of dialogue in Amis’s London Trilogy, the essay claims.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the decorum of the wooden gusli (psal- tery) found during archaeological excavations in Novgorod the Great in 1969. This artefact, dated from the first half of 12 th century, is decorated with two carved dragon’s heads. Also there are depicted graffiti carvings: one with drag- on’s heads and another one with a lion and a bird. The similarity between caved dragon’s heads at gusli from Novgorod and decorum of Western European medieval musical instruments (citoles and harps) is found. There is mentioned in the article that images of harps with zoomorphic decorum are known from miniatures with King David depicted in medieval illuminated psalters. Also it is found that the graffiti with a lion and a bird has iconographic parallels in the stone carvings with King David on the walls of the Church of the Interces- sion on the River Nerl (1165) situated near the city of Vladimir in Russia. Therefore a hypothesis about reflection of King David’s theme in the decorum of gusli from Novgorod is expressed.

Abstract:

Dolbeau 5, 11 (= s. 114B ).

Abstract:
Rhododendron decorum is a woody species with high ornamental and medical value. Herein, we introduce a novel in vitro regeneration method for R. decorum. We used flower buds to develop an efficient and rapid plant regeneration protocol. Sterile flower buds of R. decorum of a 2 cm size were used as explants to study the effects of the culture medium and plant growth regulators on the callus induction and adventitious shoot differentiation, proliferation, and rooting. According to the results, the optimal medium combination for callus induction was WPM + 1 mg/L TDZ + 0.2 mg/L NAA, and its induction rate reached 95.08%. The optimal medium combination for adventitious shoot differentiation from the callus was WPM + 0.5 mg/L TDZ + 0.1 mg/L NAA, and its differentiation rate reached 91.32%. The optimal medium combination for adventitious shoot proliferation was WPM + 2 mg/L ZT + 0.5 mg/L NAA, for which the proliferation rate reached 95.32% and the proliferation coefficient reached 9.45. The optimal medium combination for rooting from adventitious shoots was WPM + 0.1 mg/L NAA + 1 mg/L IBA, and its rooting rate reached 86.90%. The survival rates of the rooted regenerated plantlets exceeded 90% after acclimatization and transplantation. This regeneration system has the advantages of being simple and highly efficient, and it causes little damage to the shoots of the mother plants, laying a foundation for the plantlet propagation, genetic transformation, and new-variety breeding of R. decorum.

Abstract:
A classical church portico – say, St Paul's in London – implies a rite of passage and mediation between the city and the interior rituals of the institution; it beckons the street, while offering shelter to those who want to observe the crowd. In contrast, the spectacular interiors of Modernist churches are often entered without theatre – the plain outer door [1], for example, of Jørn Utzon's Bagsværd Church (Copenhagen, 1973), provides little hint of the magical cloud-like movement of vaulted space within. This is not simply a matter of the changing formal language of architecture (namely, interior space taking priority over exterior shell), but also how the church might be defined in wider civic and historical contexts. Here the Classical theory of decorum remains helpful, for Vitruvius proposed that identifying a building's theme (statione) – that is, the social and institutional destination of the building – was the first step in determining appropriate form, the prerequisite one before considering the related determinates of decor, namely stylistic coherence (consuetudine) and site (natura). The issue of thematic appropriateness is above all important for the front, which announces the building like a frontispiece does a text. Yet as the church portico demonstrates, a thematic motif was rarely the straightforward application of a code, for in the period when architectural decorum prevailed – loosely speaking the fifteenth to nineteenth century in Italy, France and England among other places – how a genre was defined and what constituted the repertoire of appropriate form were contested.
