Abstract:
Throughout the years, there has been a rise in the number of travel vlogs. Travel Vlogs have become an essential route for travelers to get tourism information, which influences the viewers' travel intentions. The quantitative study generally examines the significant relationship of local YouTube travel vlogs and revisiting intention preferences of tourism students of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. The study was emerged because of the previous studies which addressed the relationship between travel vlogs and tourists’ travel intention. With the adapted attributes and characteristics, the results of this study could serve as a basis for the essence of watching travel vlogs in connection with the revisit intention of the students. The data was gathered using an online questionnaire constructed in Microsoft Forms. Two (2) tourism professors and a statistician from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas validated the questionnaire. The results were analyzed using weighted mean and Spearman’s Rho. Furthermore, the overall findings of the study revealed a strong correlation of the variables. Finally, the research concluded that there is a significant relationship between local YouTube travel vlogs and revisiting intention preferences of tourism students of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.

Abstract:
Purpose – In introducing e-reserves as an added service of the De La Salle University (DLSU) libraries, the purpose of this paper is to identify the best practices of handling e-reserves and its legal implications as one of the factors that might affect the introduction, development and implementation of such service. Design/methodology/approach – Four universities were considered based from the 2013 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) university rankings in Asia. Only one academic library was maintaining an e-reserve system. It was consulted to know more about their e-reserve practices. Findings – The paper recommends to prepare the relevant e-reserve guidelines before it fully operates. Moreover, the Libraries should also collaborate with the office handling learning management systems so as to decide on how to manage the e-reserves. A needs assessment survey for faculty members is also being prepared so as to solicit responses from the teaching faculty if e-reserves is possible for DLSU to be established. Originality/value – The paper attempts to document the existing e-reserve system in Philippine academic libraries.

Abstract:
Since the 9/11 terrorist attack, risk perception has been one of the points of study in the context of tourism. The infamous day or occurrence, which led to a significant decline in travel demand, demonstrated the critical relevance of risk research in tourism. Previous research indicates that risk perception considerably influences travel behavior, particularly when considering terror-infested areas. However, the relationship between tourist risk perceptions and willingness to travel remains fragmented due to the variable nature of their association, as indicated by a few studies, which simultaneously revealed multiple dimensions of risk perception. The present study focuses on the five dimensions of perceived risks, namely Physical Risk, Financial Risk, Socio-Psychological Risk, Performance Risk, and Time Risk, and their relationship with the tourists’ willingness to travel. The purpose of this study is to determine whether risk perception affects undergraduate students at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas' willingness to travel to Mindanao. This quantitative study utilized a purposive sampling method to gather respondents. Their risk perceptions were measured using a questionnaire that experts validated. The results were analyzed using Spearman's Correlation, which indicated that all perceived risk dimensions, apart from time risk, had a negative and significant relationship to the willingness to travel to Mindanao of undergraduate students at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.

Abstract:
The devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic also had an impact on academic institutions that offer tourism-related programs and students' expectations for their future careers in the sector. In order to significantly contribute to the creation of programs for tourism students in connection to their job options, the study examined and determined how De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Philippines tourism students perceived their careers amidst post-pandemic. Using the mixed methods and the simple random and purposive sampling techniques, 105 graduating tourism management students enrolled in A.Y. 2020-2021, completed the researcher-made survey questionnaire to gather quantitative data and descriptive statistics were used to evaluate it and show it as frequency tables. The quantitative findings showed that: (1) Despite the detrimental consequences of the pandemic on the industry and being aware of other career opportunities and alternatives, students were driven by a desire to work in tourism and made their decisions as a result; (2) The majority of the tourism industry aspects that are seen as vital and have favorable perceptions are jobs associated with the nature of tourism industry employment; and (3) Participants identified several possibilities in the tourism industry and various prospects outside the field. The data may help De La Salle Dasmarinas University comprehend the decision-making criteria employed by its students while choosing a vocation. To help students make wise judgments, the report suggests career education.

Abstract:
English language learners (ELLs) represent a growing demographic in the elementary mainstream classroom of today. Initial teacher education (ITE) programs must prepare teacher candidates for the dual challenge of teaching curriculum content while supporting the development of English language proficiency. Task-based learning (TBL) holds potential for addressing these learner needs. This article describes the curriculum and provides a list of suitable readings and tasks (assignments) for a 3-hour (one full course-equivalent) university course at the pre-service level that bridges theory to practice, and prepares elementary-route teachers to design and implement TBL in the context of the mainstream class setting. By basing the proposed curriculum on TBL, a model is provided for students to learn firsthand how TBL may be implemented in the mainstream.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work is part of the research project developed by the Observatory on New Social Movements and Law in Brazil at La Salle University, focusing in the city of Porto Alegre and on the occupation of the City Council on July of 2013, which is placed in the context of the protests against the increase of bus fares and for free fare, attempting to understand the relationship between the political organization of the Bloco de Lutas pelo Transporte Publico and its legal group during the eight days of City Council occupation. We conducted semi-structured interviews with members of the occupation in order to clarify the dynamics in the movement and its understanding of the relationship between law and social movements, highlighting the deferment of the eviction order and the elaboration of two Bills as fundamental moments of the relationship between the collective organization of the occupation and its legal team.

Abstract:
Media and information literacy (MIL) was recently introduced in the Philippines although it has been the talk of the town since the Grunwald Declaration on media education in 1982. De La Salle University (DLSU) Libraries is an active partner in promoting MIL and decided to support this as part of its information literacy campaign. This project report provides an overview of a seminar-workshop programme on MIL conducted at DLSU Libraries for public school teacher-librarians. The programme is based on a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) publication entitled ‘Pedagogies of Media and Information Literacies’ which has five modules: Understanding media and information literacy; Young people as global media audiences; Media cultures and technologies; How to interpret media; Cooperation and sharing ideas. The project report acknowledges how the participants were able to grasp and understand the MIL values and how they were able to apply these values in their own workplace. Finally, the report shares analyses of the participants’ reviews of the programme.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted traditional face-to-face teaching worldwide and forced education institutions to adopt new, online teaching formats to enable students to continue with their studies. This research focuses on students’ perceptions of three teaching different modalities: face-to-face (F2F), Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) and Smart Classroom (SC), which were implemented in response to the restrictions enforced to combat the spread of COVID-19. A qualitative study based on two user experience techniques, Pocket Bipolar Laddering and Emotional Appraisal, was carried out on a group of second-year ICT engineering university students at La Salle Campus Barcelona. The former technique consists in identifying a maximum of three positive and three negative salient items, while the latter is intended to rate pairs of opposite feelings. In the SC format, saving time on travel to university was considered an advantage of online learning, while disadvantages included less effective instructor–student interaction, distractions when off-campus and teamwork issues. These shortcomings can be addressed by specific online teaching training to develop a more active form of learning and foment student participation. However, both ERT and SC modalities were considered effective solutions to cope with the social and mobility restrictions imposed during the pandemic.

Abstract:
Recent developments in Environmental Communication furthered the importance of tool development to measure practice with ecocentric orientation. This research aimed to develop a tool that can measure the level of ecocentrism. This research employed a descriptive research design, and a survey was used as the primary data gathering method. The ecocentric-driven environmental communication tool has undergone four phases: the development of indicators, generation of reliability evidence, and determination of limitations, and refinement of tool. The tool was administered to 225 fourth-year college students of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D), a higher education institution that explicitly integrated ecocentrism in its curriculum. Mean, percentage, and frequency count were used to analyze the socio-demographic and environmental communication. Chi-square Likelihood Ratio was also used to analyze the relationship between environmental communication and ecocentrism. The novel output of this research was the identification of aspects of ecocentrism, namely, impacts of human activities on the environment, environmental awareness, sustainable practices, environmental stewardship, collective action, and compliance with environmental laws. The research was able to develop probing items for each aspect. It was recommended that the probing items be developed based on the specific environmental contexts.

Abstract:
Rapid advances in technology, information, and transportation have made true what was once just an idea. This was popularized by communication scholar Marshall McLuhan into a reality. These advances have consequently helped develop global citizenship education. With this development comes the realization that young people need not go out of their country to embrace global citizenship. What Journalism and Print Media students at the University of St. La Salle did to heighten their global citizenship education was to use mass and social media to promote selected international events of the United Nations under the project, ―Connecting… Informing… We Are Citizens of the World‖. The feedback of the students show that such approach is an effective tool in making young people aware and be involved in the discussion and action for social justice and peace, which are requisites of global citizenship. This paper hopes to share with other S-L advocates, especially those in Communication programs that they can be vital channels in promoting global citizenship among their students as well as strategies they can use, and consequently, contribute to efforts toward the attainment of international peace, unity amid diversity and development.

Abstract:
This paper proposes for the development of a path-loss model to improve the accuracy in predicting the signal level in office locations for the reception of FM broadcast. Identifying the factors that affect the signal level and eventually developing a model to predict the signal inside buildings will guide engineers in designing a broadcast system. A properly designed broadcast system will ensure optimum signal penetration in these listening areas. Further, the developed model can find applications in policy-making on the regulation of FM broadcast stations, both for analog and digital radio systems. Signal level measurements from three FM broadcast stations have been made inside eight office rooms in De La Salle University-Manila. With the three stations utilizing circularly polarized transmitting antennas, the measurements aim to determine the signal levels of the horizontal and vertical components of the received signal. These measured levels are used to determine the effects on the magnitude of the received signal of some factors, such as signal frequency and polarization, receiving antenna height, walls, transmitter-receiver distance, etc. Since the developed model is based on the measured signal levels in the actual office environment, its accuracy is then better than any of the existing models earlier developed.

Abstract:
Objective. The onset of the pandemic in 2020 forced the education sector to shift to the online learning modality. This paper aims to determine the law students' actual utilization rate and patterns of online resources and services. Methods. This paper used a quantitative method to arrive at its primary purpose. It collected use statistics on all online legal databases and online services offered by the Law Library. This paper analyzed the collected statistics by applying the different statistical measures such as the extraction of mean, averages, and percentages. Results. This study found that law students used online resources to a great extent. Academic activities, databases' contents, and titles' availability are the factors affecting the frequency of use of online resources. The results of this study will become the bases for planning for the continuous improvement of the law library's resources and services in preparation for the permanent offering of the hyflex learning modality in the Tanada-Diokno College of Law of the De La Salle University. Conclusions. The low extent of use of the online reference services and the great degree of use of the different online databases prove that law students can access online information independently, strengthening the proof that they are now ready for the hyflex modality of library service.

Abstract:
This article explores university English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors’ attitudes toward translanguaging in the classroom and possible reasons for instructors’ resistance in moving translanguaging ideology into English language teaching pedagogy. Many researchers have forwarded translanguaging as a theoretical and pedagogical approach to language education because of its potential cognitive, social, and affective benefits. A translanguaging pedagogy calls for instructors to affirm the dynamic and diverse language practices that multilingual students utilize as part of their unitary language repertoire. However, because English-only pedagogies, policies, and practices still permeate the ESL classroom, it is critical to understand how ESL instructors’ language ideologies and orientations play a role in shaping their pedagogical practices and classroom language policies. Using Ruíz’s orientations in language planning and translanguaging theory, this study examined the language orientations of five ESL instructors at a major Canadian university based on qualitative data gathered through semistructured interviews. The findings provide insights into instructors’ attitudes toward translanguaging, the relationship between instructors’ language learning experiences and their classroom language policy, and institutional opportunities and constraints.

Abstract:
This study examines the extent to which the De La Salle University (DLSU) Libraries collect print resources about Philippine languages (more than 70 dialects) and how successfully the DLSU libraries in acquiring resources about Philippine languages. It also gauges how the DLSU libraries support the curriculum of the College of Liberal Arts in terms of its collection. This study employs a descriptive research method. It uses collection assessment or the systematic evaluation of the quality of a library collection to determine the extent to which it meets the library’s service goals and objectives and the information needs of its clientele. Data were extracted and culled from the library’s information system, and tables and percentages were used to describe Philippine languages’ current collection of print resources. The DLSU library has an excellent primary collection of resources about Philippine languages. However, the collection assessment highlights many reference materials can still be acquired from the market and added to the collection. The Filipiniana section was able to establish a decent collection that could cater to the needs of the faculty and students. The library still needs to be aggressive in the acquisition of library materials recommended as required readings in the class syllabi of each course. The result of the study provides a profile of the DLSU libraries’ collection of Philippine languages and the extent of its collection building, and how it supports the curriculum. The result of the study can be used to create a comprehensive collection development plan.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: To compare the recovery time and other related clinical outcomes among patients who underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) with axillary lymph node dissection under Continuous Thoracic Epidural Anesthesia (CTEA) and General Endotracheal Tube Anesthesia (GETA).METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study with 70 patients who underwent MRM in De La Salle University Medical Centre (DLSUMC), categorized into GETA and CTEA group consisted of 35 patients each. Per oral premedications 15 mg midazolam, 40 mg omeprazole and 10 mg metoclopramide were given 1 hour prior to surgery. Intra-operative hypotension/hypertension, tachycardia/bradycardia status, length of Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and hospital stay, and Post Operative Nausa and Vomiting (PONV) incidence were compared between 2 groups.RESULTS: Preoperatively, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of subject characteristic. Intra-operatively, hypertension was more frequent in GETA group (28.6% vs. 0%), while hypotension was more frequent in the CTEA (80% vs. 57.1%). Tachycardia was more frequent in GETA group (46.6% vs. 0%), meanwhile bradycardia was more frequent in CTEA (40% vs. 17.1%). Postoperatively, the GETA group had shorter PACU stay than CTEA (230 mins vs. 267 mins), but CTEA group had a shorter time of hospital stay compared to GETA (58.1 hours vs. 67.7 hours). The incidence of PONV were comparable among the two groups (GETA 46.7% vs. CTEA 50%). Statistically there were no significant differences between the two groups in all of the above characteristics.CONCLUSION: CTEA technique has no effect on inducing hypertension and tachycardia, but hypotension and bradycardia may occur. Although GETA gives shorter PACU duration, CTEA gives shorter hospital stay. This gave impression that CTEA is an effective alternative technique to GETA in patients who underwent MRM with axillary dissection.KEYWORDS: modified radical mastectomy, general anesthesia, epidural anesthesia

Abstract:
On January 7–8, 2022, an event Après la déconstruction. Reconstruire les sciences et la culture (After the Deconstruction. Reconstruction of Sciences and the Culture) organized by the College of Philosophy, the Observatory of decolonialism, and the Committee Laïcité République, took place at the Sorbonne. The colloquium brought together prominent figures from around the world in the heart of Paris, in the historical Salle Louis Liard of Sorbonne University in which PhD theses are defended. Due to the constrictions of the venue — hence the COVID-19 restrictions — apart from 220 delegates to the symposium, more than 400 participants took part via the Internet. Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer delivered the opening speech. Speakers from France and the best universities of the USA, Canada, and Great Britain took part in three sessions and twelve thematic panels. Researchers, political scientists, sociologists, historians, economists, artists, and representatives of many other professions, mathematicians included, followed the lead of French philosophers present at the conference. The keynote of the symposium was the concern about the increasing politicization of science and education and the need to respond to its threats. The convention regarded the so-called woke ideology, or decolonization thinking, and cancel culture as the main threats to the world, science, and education, since this ideology may result in the cancellation of the very Western civilization. The participants discussed, darkly, pseudo-scientific approaches to the study of Islam, new taboos in mass culture, post-truth in the media, and knowledge transfer in educational training today. It was suggested that every fake or pseudoscientific paper should be countered with a scientific one, academics should back their peers confronted by student activists and university administration, resist deconstruction by transmitting knowledge and language to younger generations. The new axiological turn calls for facing the new ethics not only in everyday encounters but within the scientific discourse as well.
