Abstract:
The relationship between physical activity, sports and headache is a topic of growing interest as testified by a variety of recently published papers. This correlation dates back to the Classical Age. The aim of this study is to understand how the concept of headache of vascular origin has evolved after the publication of the book De motu cordis by William Harvey (1578–1657). We analyzed and compared the books De arte gymnastica written by Girolamo Mercuriale (1601 edition) and De Morbis Artificum Diatriba written by Bernardino Ramazzini (1713 edition) focusing our attention on headache in the sportsman. By studying the De morbis artificum diatriba, it is clear that its description of the etiopathogenesis of exercise headache of cardiovascular origin is much more complete and precise than the one provided in De arte gymnastica. The limits of scientific knowledge of his time put Mercuriale at disadvantage, since cardiovascular physiology was not elucidated until 1628 with the publication of De motu cordis.

Abstract:
There is nothing inherently new, of course, about the study of men in archaeology. For example, in his important history of the creation of modern European masculinity George Mosse (The Image of Man, Oxford, 1996) describes one objective of eighteenth-century archaeologists as entailing the rediscovery of ancient Greek sculpture. Among other things Mosse demonstrates how an ‘ideal of masculine beauty took its inspiration from Greece’ and from the Greek statues in which the male body is deified, to such an extent that ‘the noble soul of each youth manifests itself through the harmonious position of his naked body during gymnastic exercises, foreshadowing the important role that gymnastics will play in shaping modern manhood’.

ABSTRACTThe following work is entitled: Lighting and spatiality in Adolphe Appia. It aims to make a historical and bibliographical approach about the contributions of his work to the transformation of theatrical scenic scene. For that reason, the analyses here were done from a scenic makeover that has as forming elements the lighting and spatiality scenic. These contributions were inspired by Wagnerian`s drama staging and Rhythmic Gymnastics. However, this research is a brief historical exhibition on the life and theoretical practices of Richard Wagner and JaquesDalcroze, once these two characters are crucial to the theoretical work of Appia. Therefore, after discussing the relevant correlations between the authors approaches I discuss the theoretical suggestions of Adolphe Appia about reshaping theatrical scenic space, exposing the elements of its proposal by analyzing his work: The Work of Living Art; brought to the theater scene in the early twentieth century. Keywords: Appia, Lighting, Spaciality, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Total Art Work.

Abstract:
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, when Napoleon's French empire conquered much of Europe, the German patriot Friedrich Ludwig Jahn invented the first German national gymnastics program known asTurnen. The idea was to create a new German body and a new form of national discipline. Walking for bodily fitness, to instill national awareness, training on special equipment and rediscovering ancient German dance forms all became part of the new body culture. It is out of this movement with its nationalist and later racist culture that much of the modern gymnastics and dance movements in Germany gained their ideologies. This article sketches some stages of this social and physical continuity, from the resistance to the French to the establishment of the racial state in 1933 and to the provision of a Nazi aesthetic by German modern dancers.

Abstract:
The background of this research is the lack of teacher methods in giving instructions or lessons on floor gymnastics, especially the front roll. Many students experience difficulties and injuries when doing the front roll practice. Therefore we need a type of method that can be used to anticipate these problems. One method that can be used is to use video in the learning process of floor gymnastics. In addition, the level of flexibility of students also has an influence on success in doing the front roll. This study will discuss the effect of using the video method in learning floor gymnastics. The problems of this research are (1) Can learning methods and flexibility factors affect the results of the front roll of floor exercise in class X SMKN 1 Kademangan? (2) How big is the influence of learning methods and flexibility factors on the front roll of floor gymnastics in class X SMKN 1 Kademangan? (3) Which is the better learning outcome through the demonstration method or the video method in learning the front roll of floor exercise? The type of research used is experimental research. The subjects used were students of class X TKJ SMKN Kademangan. The research subjects will be divided into two class groups, namely groups that use video media and groups that use demonstration methods. Both groups will be given a pretest to determine the initial ability. Furthermore, all subjects will be measured the level of flexibility. Flexibility will be divided into two, namely high flexibility and low flexibility. Determination of the level of flexibility of students based on the flexibility test. The analytical technique used for data analysis is one-way ANOVA, independent sample t test and linear regression. The test results for the two groups found that there was an influence given by the learning method and the flexibility factor on the students' front roll results. The results of calculations using ANOVA found a significance value of 0.008. This value is smaller than 0.05 so it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the use of learning methods and the level of student flexibility. Furthermore, based on regression analysis, it was found that the method used and the level of flexibility had an effect of 13.4% on the students' front roll results. Subsequent testing using the Independent sample t test found that the video method was better than the demonstration method. The video method can significantly increase by 3.8 of students' front roll results. The conclusion in this study is that the use of the video method is better if it is used to improve students' front roll results. Keywords: learning method, flexibility, front roll, floor exercise.

ABSTRACT This paper examines a key moment in the modern history of aesthetics, Edmund Burke's Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful (1757). In contrast to prevailing negative interpretations of Burke's medical languages, this study will reinsert the genealogy of aesthetics into the body, fleshing out the bricolage, the rigor, and the far-reaching implications of the medical materialism that enabled this insertion——including the distinctly modern set of individual, social, and political aspirations that it engendered.

Abstract:
This organizational life history documents how the founder of an elite gymnastics training organization led her organizational members to resist what she deemed to be unethical institutional influences prior to working toward changing those institutional practices. The study contributes the idea that institutional resistance leadership at the team and organizational levels can precede disruptive institutional entrepreneurship activities at the institutional level. The diachronic analysis describes the micro, local, historical, intra-organizational work that serves as a proving ground for generating resistance before proceeding to institutional level work; in doing so, the article explores how leadership activities can be ‘scaled up’ to affect institutions through the intermediary of an organization. Identity violations triggered a founder’s sensemaking and moved her to lead others to resist institutional forces on her own organization’s training practices. The founder used the rhetorical strategy of narrative to create sensebreaking to help members make sense of the dominant institutional influence, articulate an alternative philosophy, translate the alternative into practices, and acquire material resources for undertaking resistance at the local organizational level. Finally, in attempting to scale up to institutional entrepreneurship, the institutional resistance leadership then struggled with defining success for the organization in the view of dominant institutional actors.

Abstract:
In this article Rebecca Loukes explores the practice of German psychophysical awareness practitioner Elsa Gindler (1885–1961), whose work influenced twentieth-century performance in a range of ways, but has not previously been documented in this context. Loukes situates Gindler's training and early work amongst key early twentieth-century Gymnastik practitioners before tracing developments in her life and work, drawing from Gindler's 1926 article, her unpublished class notes, and her students' memories. She discusses what Gindler meant by cultivating a state of ‘concentration’, and how this related to breathing, tension, and relaxation, both in the studio and daily life. She then indicates how this can usefully be applied to contemporary pre-performance training or work on the ‘beginning state of the actor’. Rebecca Loukes is a practitioner, performer, and researcher in the area of actor training and psychophysical awareness. She has been training in practices derived from Gindler's work for over ten years. Her recent writing includes ‘Body Awareness in Performer Training: the Hidden Legacy of Gertrud Falke-Heller (1891–1984)’ for Dance Research Journal (in press). She is Lecturer in Performance Practice at the University of Exeter.

Abstract:
The paper interrogates the various discourse strategies adopted by the electorate on social media (SM) to delegitimize political opponents and engender rivalry in the build-up to the February 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria. A total of forty-two (42) Facebook (FB) posts on Nigerian political discourse were purposively selected between November 2018 and January 2019, and subjected to pragmatic and evaluative analysis, adopting Mey’s (2001) pragmatic acts theory and Martin and White’s (2005) appraisal theory. From our analysis, fourteen (14) different delegitimization strategies were found to have been utilized by the writers to achieve the pragmatic acts of discrediting political opponents as unworthy of being voted into powers, while concurrently persuading the electorate to support their side instead. These strategies include the following categories: facts and evidence, issue-based rhetorical question, frank issue-based opinion, contrastive engagement, and dysphemism. Others are implicit antithesis, direct verbal attack, allegations, irony, demonization, self-indictment, lexical gymnastics, sarcasm, and prophetism. The findings show overt and covert persuasive strategies and interactivity towards the pragmatic act of delegitimizing political opponents, showing words as the real weapons on the battlefield of politics. The analysis further reveals that people tend to support a SM post not necessarily because it is true, but because it supports the chances of their candidate or hurts the opposing side. Thus a platform has been provided for implicit and explicit political stance taking, which may be difficult outside SM due to certain insecurity and face threats. SM has become a site for a running, fierce, and open political discourse, the new voice for the voiceless, as well as for issue-based campaigns in Nigeria. It may well become a space where general elections are won and lost even before a vote is cast.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACT In this study, we will analyze the representations in gymnastics teaching based on Gymnastica nas aulas, a manual published in 1895 by Manoel Baragiola. He was the teacher responsible for the gymnastics and military exercise classes at Escola Normal de São Paulo and sought to develop a model for classes through debates on gymnastic methods in the country and abroad. In addition to the analysis of the theoretical part of the textbook, other documents, including newspapers, periodicals, minutes of Escola Normal meetings, and management reports, were analyzed to demonstrate the gymnastics rationalization process in the city of São Paulo was based on many references in connected histories subjects and textual productions addressing practices of physical exercises that were distributed mainly in Italy and Brazil.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In January of 2018, after decades of sexual abuse of hundreds of athletes under his medical care, USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar faced 156 of the women he victimized when they testified at his sentencing hearing and detailed the abuse. In the wake of the Nassar verdict, gymnastics and other youth sports organizations have come under fire for abusive practices that victimize young athletes. Scholars have recently argued for an approach to understanding sexual violence as an organizational, rather than individual, phenomenon. The power organizations possess to inflict violence on their members requires an understanding of the increased role of organizations in our decision-making and shaping our values and desires. Through an analysis of testimonies submitted by women who were victimized by Nassar as children, I argue that violence was intentionally deployed as an organizing strategy by USA Gymnastics. Abusive organizational practices traumatized girls, leading them to recalibrate their expectations for what was normal and acceptable, ultimately facilitating their abuse. I propose “high-stakes organizations” as contexts particularly vulnerable to violent organizational practices. I argue, in these high-stakes organizations, trauma is likely to be deployed as a strategy for organizational commitment, further fostering precarity in modern organizations.
