Abstract:
Assessment of service quality has been widely utilized in after-sales service, especially in the automotive industry. The purpose of the study was to determine factors affecting customer satisfaction in an automotive after-sales service at Toyota Dasmarinas-Cavite Philippines by utilizing the SERVQUAL approach. Several SERVQUAL dimensions such as tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy were analyzed simultaneously to the customer satisfaction. Structural equation modeling (SEM) indicated that among the five SERVQUAL dimensions, reliability and empathy were found to have significant relationships to the satisfaction of customers at Toyota Dasmarinas-Cavite Philippines. Interestingly, tangibles, responsiveness, and assurance were found to have no significant relationships to satisfaction. The servicing dealer must deliver a high quality of service to meet customer expectations and achieve high customer satisfaction, which subsequently builds customer trust towards the company. With these, customer retention and loyalty can be attained by the company that can also increase the company’s profit and competitive advantage.

Abstract:
This study focuses on the factors of migration of Muslims from Mindanao to Luzon, specifically the City of Dasmarinas, Philippines. It also provides data on the present roles of such migrants to the development of the city and their thematic traits as a people. Culled mainly from 12 interviews and with analysis adapted from Moustakas, et.al. Model; the main reason for their migration according to interviews is the search for new opportunities; their belief that they would earn more in the establishments of the city. Their decision to migrate is also influenced by persons close to them such as relatives. The interviewees have quickly adapted to their new environment by traveling together and settling with their families. Ethnographic approach unraveled that aside from paying taxes to the coffers of the city and rent to its businesses, Muslim migrants have contributed to the city’s progress by engaging in work; providing aid during calamities, charitable works and cheaper products to the city’s inhabitants. Employing a qualitative case method, and using informal and in-depth tools; the study concludes that the Muslims of Dasmarinas have not only enriched the socio-economic aspects of the city, but have also greatly contributed to its over-all growth and productivity.

Abstract:
The devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic also had an impact on academic institutions that offer tourism-related programs and students' expectations for their future careers in the sector. In order to significantly contribute to the creation of programs for tourism students in connection to their job options, the study examined and determined how De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Philippines tourism students perceived their careers amidst post-pandemic. Using the mixed methods and the simple random and purposive sampling techniques, 105 graduating tourism management students enrolled in A.Y. 2020-2021, completed the researcher-made survey questionnaire to gather quantitative data and descriptive statistics were used to evaluate it and show it as frequency tables. The quantitative findings showed that: (1) Despite the detrimental consequences of the pandemic on the industry and being aware of other career opportunities and alternatives, students were driven by a desire to work in tourism and made their decisions as a result; (2) The majority of the tourism industry aspects that are seen as vital and have favorable perceptions are jobs associated with the nature of tourism industry employment; and (3) Participants identified several possibilities in the tourism industry and various prospects outside the field. The data may help De La Salle Dasmarinas University comprehend the decision-making criteria employed by its students while choosing a vocation. To help students make wise judgments, the report suggests career education.

Abstract:
The challenges brought about by the COVID- 19 pandemic was not only on the health, economic, and medical sector. It also brought about drastic changes to the education sector. With the "No Child Would Be Left Behind" philosophy, the Department of Education ensured that classes would push through without face-to-face communication. This policy led to various Online Distance Learning (ODL) designs per Division or locality. This qualitative study done through narrative inquiry aims to determine the different challenges experienced and recommendations proposed by the ODL teachers in the actual delivery of education at this time of pandemic and inputs for a better implementation of the school learning continuity plan. Responses from fifteen participants from the Division of Dasmarinas yielded experiences by which various themes were extracted from the participants. Written interviews were sent to many public elementary and high school teachers experiencing the Online Distance Learning provided and designed by the Department of Education, and fifteen responded. Results have shown that the system processes affect both teachers and students. Thus, further study must be done to perfect the Learning Continuity Plan design, specifically ODL. It may be an abrupt change brought by the pandemic, but a more intensive and careful plan must be done for problems are coming in the chain and bigger.

Abstract:
Conducting community services is about building rapport, relationship, and linkages to the community. Since service is one of the core values of EAC-Cavite, it is very significant that the neighboring community shall benefit from the community outreach programs conducted by its various schools or departments. This study focuses on the evaluation of the outreach programs of EAC-Cavite in Bgry. San Agustin, Dasmarinas, Cavite. It uses the qualitative-descriptive method of research utilizing the survey questionnaire, observation, and impact evaluation approach. The results of the study revealed that 48% of the respondents were very satisfied, 33% were satisfied, and 6% were somewhat satisfied in the programs. On the other hand, there were also some problems encountered by the proponents during the actual conduct of these programs, thus, these inspired the researchers to come up with a 5-year development plan to improve the services and its program of activities. It is therefore recommended to continue to move on and reach out for the sustainable development of the community focusing more on the areas of education, health, environment, and socio-economic development. Finally, every program should be evaluated immediately to find out its strengths and weaknesses and to address all the problems encountered before, during, and after the activity using the impact evaluation approach.

Abstract:
Objective: To compare actual tracheostomy tube sizes with estimated endotracheal tube sizes using age-related formula and tracheal diameter from preoperative radiographs among pediatric Filipino patients aged 0-18 years old undergoing tracheostomy. Methods: Study Design: Review of records Setting: Tertiary Private University Hospital in Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines Patients: Pediatric patients regardless of gender, aged 0 to 18 years old, with a preoperative radiograph of the trachea, and who subsequently underwent tracheostomy anytime from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2016 were considered for inclusion. Radiographs were measured, endotracheal tube sizes were computed using age-related formula, and recorded tracheotomy tube sizes were retrieved. Results: Twenty-two patients (12 males, 10 females) aged 10 months to 18-years-old (median age: 11 years) were included in the study. Mean tube sizes were 6.46mm (+/- 1.492 SD) for age-related formula, 5.67mm (+/- 1.1849 SD) for radiograph-based estimation, and 5.0 for actual tracheostomy tube inserted in each patient. The Bland-Altman plot showed the bias estimate at 0.7913 and the lower and upper limits of agreement at -1.3598 and 2.9423 (confidence level 95% or 2 standard deviations away from the mean). Conclusions: The average value derived from radiograph-based estimation is less than the corresponding average value from age-related formula. There is a significant difference between age-related formula-based estimation and actual tracheostomy tube inserted. Since the range of differences between the two estimation methods is high, these results imply that the bias or the difference between measures from the two methods is not consistent, with the two methods exhibiting very poor agreement. Abstract:
Since the 9/11 terrorist attack, risk perception has been one of the points of study in the context of tourism. The infamous day or occurrence, which led to a significant decline in travel demand, demonstrated the critical relevance of risk research in tourism. Previous research indicates that risk perception considerably influences travel behavior, particularly when considering terror-infested areas. However, the relationship between tourist risk perceptions and willingness to travel remains fragmented due to the variable nature of their association, as indicated by a few studies, which simultaneously revealed multiple dimensions of risk perception. The present study focuses on the five dimensions of perceived risks, namely Physical Risk, Financial Risk, Socio-Psychological Risk, Performance Risk, and Time Risk, and their relationship with the tourists’ willingness to travel. The purpose of this study is to determine whether risk perception affects undergraduate students at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas' willingness to travel to Mindanao. This quantitative study utilized a purposive sampling method to gather respondents. Their risk perceptions were measured using a questionnaire that experts validated. The results were analyzed using Spearman's Correlation, which indicated that all perceived risk dimensions, apart from time risk, had a negative and significant relationship to the willingness to travel to Mindanao of undergraduate students at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.

Abstract:
In the field of education, teachers must be technologically abreast especially in time of the COVID-19 Pandemic addressing the demand of the New Normal. To build confidence and capacity in digital teaching-learning, teachers must consider developing their skills in using digital technologies in education and they must also embed the use of digital devices in the teaching-learning practice. In this premise, this research article explains the digital inequality that the teachers are experiencing and its effect on their teaching profession and on establishing among themselves the digital trust and intuition. This study also aimed to answer, “What are the digital equalities do teachers encounter?” Th teachers’ decision for digital trust and intuition is affected by the digital inequalities they are experiencing. This study draws insights from a one-page survey questionnaire to 20 selected teachers of St. Aloysius Academy of Dasmariñas representing the faculty from the 3 departments such as preschool, grade school and high school. The results of this study indicate that teachers of St. Aloysius Academy of Dasmariñas are digitally inclined as manifested by their subscriptions to various digital devices and services. The impact of the digital technology to them in terms of social, economic, political and cultural affects their decision in digital trust and intuition. Overcoming issues on digital inequality among teachers will lead to digital trust and intuition. The school, from where the teachers are employed must address the digital inequality by ensuring that all teachers have equal chances in accessing the technology-based teaching devices and by providing them capacity building trainings which are imperative for the demand of the new normal. Teachers must embrace the digital technology in the community and in their workplace and imbibe the digital trust and intuition in education.

Another treasure has been brought to light from the Archives of the University of Tomas. It is a personal copy of the papal bull given to knights of the Order of Santiago, the foremost Spanish knightly order. It belonged to Gómez Pérez Dasmariñas, governor of the Philippines from 1589–1593. The Order spanned both religious and military life, and is an indication of the high respect in which Gómez Pérez was held in Spain. However, it stresses the Spanish hatred of the Muslims (or Moors) and thereby sheds light on the origins of the divisions between Muslims and Christians in the Philippines that have plagued the islands for more than five centuries.

Abstract:
Social communication is an essential church activity considering the flock's profile and the COVID-19 pandemic. The study determined the convergence and divergence of the parishioners in a Philippine Catholic Church Parish in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite on Respect for Life, using content analysis and survey methods as bases for the development of a model for social communication. Results revealed that respondents were 31 years-old, female, married, college graduates, or attended college, with the parish for 16-30 years, Sunday Church-goers only, and not members of any Church-based organizations. Parishioners had converging conceptions about the "War on Drugs," extrajudicial killings, and the death penalty even when they could not join Church activities. Parishioners' compliance was acceptable with five convergence points: the sanctity of life, proper appropriation of justice, expression of gratitude for life, healthy living, and understanding the social context of the pronouncements. With this, a social communication model for the Parish Church was recommended, which other parishes may employ.

Abstract:
Aggression is a behavior that intent to hurt others. Despite collective researches about aggression, there is a dearth in fully established psychosocial programs for the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and evaluating program directed to aggressive behavior in the Philippines. Eight CICL housed in an institution under the supervision of the DSWD-Dasmariñas were the primary source of data. The study seeks to describe the pre-and-post mean scores of aggressions and determine the significant difference in aggression reduction before and after exposure to AMP. Employing the quasi-experimental design, the researchers administered the intervention and conducted repeated-measures to measure the effectiveness of AMP thru combined approaches of CBT-EFT in reducing their aggression level. Findings revealed that their aggression in the areas of physically aggressive responses, and verbally aggressive reactions were diminished after participating in the AMP, with the inclusion of counseling sessions in addressing problematic concerns related to aggressive behavior.

Abstract:
Recent developments in Environmental Communication furthered the importance of tool development to measure practice with ecocentric orientation. This research aimed to develop a tool that can measure the level of ecocentrism. This research employed a descriptive research design, and a survey was used as the primary data gathering method. The ecocentric-driven environmental communication tool has undergone four phases: the development of indicators, generation of reliability evidence, and determination of limitations, and refinement of tool. The tool was administered to 225 fourth-year college students of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D), a higher education institution that explicitly integrated ecocentrism in its curriculum. Mean, percentage, and frequency count were used to analyze the socio-demographic and environmental communication. Chi-square Likelihood Ratio was also used to analyze the relationship between environmental communication and ecocentrism. The novel output of this research was the identification of aspects of ecocentrism, namely, impacts of human activities on the environment, environmental awareness, sustainable practices, environmental stewardship, collective action, and compliance with environmental laws. The research was able to develop probing items for each aspect. It was recommended that the probing items be developed based on the specific environmental contexts.

Calderon, Alberto. "Marlon V. del Rosario, MD (1956 – 2021)." Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 36, no. 1 (May 30, 2021): 72. http://dx.doi.org/10.32412/pjohns.v36i1.1671.

Full text
Abstract:
Marlon graduated from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1982. He completed his internship at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) the following year. He then proceeded to complete the OMMC residency training program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (then chaired by the venerable Dr. Angel Enriquez). In 1988, he attained the title of Diplomate in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Marlon established his private practice in his hometown of Tanza, Cavite. It is also here where he co-founded the Divine Grace Medical Center, the first tertiary medical facility in this part of Cavite. In 1989, with the encouragement of Dr. Joselito “Che” Jamir, a respected fellow Caviteño otolaryngologist, he joined the faculty of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute in Dasmariñas, Cavite, serving for 30 years as Assistant Professor. He also served as an Associate Board Examiner for the Philippine Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery until 2016. With this short statement alone, one can already see the exemplary medical career Marlon had. But to properly pay tribute to him, one must see and know the man behind the endoscope, the man beneath the white tailored medical overcoat. Marlon’s character was a bit of a paradox. He was a humble and modest person despite his substantial resources. He was unassuming yet self-assured. He was reserved but gregarious at the same time. For instance, in our conventions or other gatherings of fellows, he would most likely be seated at the farthest portion of the meeting quietly and attentively listening to the proceedings. But once outside the session hall when he gets to meet up with his buddies, he transforms and takes center stage in what will eventually be a boisterous exchange of banter. The usual suspects in these animated gatherings were Drs. Arsenio “Boy” Pascual, Howard Enriquez, Tomas “Tom” Antonio and Diosdado “Dado” Uy. Indeed, he was the epitome of someone who worked hard and played hard. He was a man with foresight. Instead of investing in clinic spaces in large and established medical centers in Metro Manila and Cavite, he staked his money on building the Divine Grace Medical Center, a tertiary medical center in what was then a sleepy town of Tanza, Cavite. This sleepy town is now a commercial and financial hub in the northwestern part of Cavite, with his hospital located right in the middle of all the commercial and infrastructure developments. And as his practice started to thrive, he tempered his success with kindness and compassion, earning him more prominence in his hometown. He was also a music aficionado. While many of us are only recently going back to the turntable and vinyl records, he never let go of his turntable set up. He was a bit of a snob when it came to music. He found tapes and digitized sound inferior to vinyl records, and his vinyl record collection is still an envy of many. He appreciated all forms of music, but the genre he truly loved (like a true Caviteño) was Rock and Roll. His love for music did not stop there. He was a musician as well and played a mean guitar. This is illustrated by the manner in which his family arranged the altar where his urn was placed. Amidst the flowers on the altar was a picture of a grinning Marlon with a guitar slung over his shoulder. His treasured guitars were right beside him: his acoustic guitar placed on one side of the altar and his electric guitar on the other. His true crowning glory however, was his family. He became a family man at the tender age of 21. His family was his foundation and inspiration. His lovely and ever supportive wife Ellie held the fort while he was away in Manila to study medicine and undergo residency training. They were blessed with 3 boys whom he was extremely proud of. His eldest son Marc (43 years old) is a US - trained interventional cardiologist who practices in several large medical institutions around Metro Manila and Cavite. Michael (40 years old) is an associate professor of entrepreneurship and marketing at De La Salle University – Dasmariñas and currently completing his requirements for his doctorate degree in business administration and management. The youngest son Mikko (32 years old) seems to have a special interest in local Cavite politics. Indeed, Marlon’s life was colorful and complete. Nonetheless, it was still too soon for him to embark on this final journey. But such is life and we just have to accept it. My dear friend and compadre Marlon, I raise my glass of your favorite Japanese single malt whiskey and congratulate you for a life well-lived. Godspeed and rest easy

Abstract:
This study was conducted to identify of rodent species and the ectoparasites are widely recognized for the type prevalent in homes, at Esna District, Luxor Governorate, Egypt, during 2020 year. The results were revealed that the presence of three species of rats included gray-bellied rat, Rattusrattusalexandrinusthe dominant species from, Rattusrattusfrugivorusand the Nile grass rat, Arvicanthisniloticus. The results also indicated that the identification of two types of fleas, Xenopsyllacheopis&Pulexirritans, and one species of lice, Polyplaxspinulosa, associated with the gray-bellied was identified. The study reports the interest in making integrated control programs for rodents to get rid of them and the risks of their external parasites. Introduction Rodents play an important role as hosts for ectoparasites and as repositories for various types of viruses, bacteria, rickets, protozoa, and parasitic worms that cause zoonotic diseases (Durden and Page, 1991; Azad and Beard, 1998; Coleman et al., 2003; Salibay and Claveria, 2005). Some examples of such diseases are rodent-borne hemorrhagic fever, plague, Lyme disease, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, murine typhus, scrub typhus, toxoplasmosis, shistosomiasis, nematodes and tapeworms. The close association between commensal rodents and humans and domestic animals is a risk factor for transmission of these diseases (Kia et al., 2009). The aim of this study is to identify rodent species spread with a study of external parasites of the most dominant species in houses of study area. Materials and methods • Study Area The present study was carried out to inventory of the types of rodent spread in houses with a study of external parasites of the most dominant species at Esna area, Luxor Governorate, Egypt, during 2020 year. • Identification of the different species of rodents Rodent species were collected from the aforementioned sites using 10 common wire traps. Each trap was stabbed with bread and distributed twice every 15 days at 6 PM. The next morning at 7 a.m., traps were examined, rodents identified and recorded for data processing. Captured rodents were graded and recorded (Desoky, 2011). • IdentificationRattusrattusalexandrinusectoparasites: Five rats were taken all Month during the study period, rodent were anesthetized in jar containing a cotton pad with chloroform and then brushed in a deep white plate using a relatively hard brush. After collection of the ectoparasites, they were preserved in plastic bags containing 70% ethyl alcohol and labeled with necessary information. The parasites were sorted and transferred to the microscope slide for identification. The ectoparasites were classified.(Soulsby, 1982&Meerburget al., 2009). Results and discussion The results showed in table 1 and figure 1 a survey of three types of rodents: It was also found that the gray-bellied rat is the most common species in the study area (Esna homes), because the gray-bellied rat is considered a household climbing rodentAbdel-Gawad (1974 and 2010). Table 1: survey of rodent species in houses at Esna area, Luxor Governorate, during 2020 year. Figure 1: Survey of rodent species in houses at Esna area, Luxor Governorate, during 2020 year. Data in table (2) the results showed that two types of fleas, Xenopsyllacheopis&Pulexirritans, and one lice, Polyplaxspinulosa, infested the captured Rattusrattusalexandrinus. Results similar withVatandoostet al. (2003) &Telmadarraiyet al. (2004) found that most medically important rodents belong to the families of Muridae and the Cricetidae. Rodents play a role in many diseases, such as plague, transmitted by the rat flea Xenopsyllacheopisand Weil's disease, a severe form of leptospirosis transmitted via infected rat urine, Dada (2016). The study showed that infecting rodents with external parasites, which have a serious importance in transmitting diseases to humans or animals, for example, the eastern mouse flea has been identified, which may be a carrier of the bacteria that causes plague. The transmission of these rat-borne parasites is exacerbated in societies where environmental and personal health standards are not maintained. From these results, an integrated control program for the gray bellied rat must be established inside the houses. Table 2: Types of external parasites identified onRattus r. alexandrinus Data in Table (3) and Figure (2) showed thatthe highest population density of rat ectoparasites was recorded during spring and summer months, followed by autumn, whereas the lowest density was recorded during winter months. Regardless of months, the results showed also, the highest average number of lice was in spring 18, followed by summer 15, followed by autumn 14, and the lowest of them was winter 4, where it was recorded. While the highest average number of fleas was in spring 5, followed by summer and winter 4, and the lowest of them were autumn 3. The results also showed that the numerical density of lice was higher than that of fleas on the body of a gray-bellied rat.Regardless of months, lice exhibited the highest population density, whereas, fleas showed the least population density, this may be attributed to that fleas visit rats for feeding only, but lice are permanent parasites on hosts. The results similar with Embarak (1997); Kia et al. (2009) &Desokyet al. (2010). Table 3: Density numerical of external parasites on Ratttusrattusalexandrinus at Esna area, Luxor Governorate, during 2020 year. Figure 2: Seasonal numbers of ectoparasites for the gray-belliedrat at Esna area, Luxor Governorate, during 2020 year. Conclusion The results are useful in identifying the types of rodents and their external parasites that may transmit many diseases to humans or animals. It also helps in the future to increase the research study on this topic with attention to the participation of society as a whole to get rid of rodents and their external parasites. Abstract:
This article provides a philosophical analysis using Foucault’s concepts of archaeology and genealogy to the Spanish colonization of the Filipinos. As a philosophical treatise, this article focused its discussion on the plurality of discourses that emerged and prevailed during the colonization. It illustrated the techniques and strategies used to propagate the discourses of the colonizers and to transform the Filipino natives into colonial subjects and in particular, the techniques and strategies utilized by Spanish missionaries. Lastly, it also presented the discourses of Filipino propagandists to enlighten the Filipinos about their colonial situation as well as to deconstruct the discourses inculcated by the colonizers in the Filipino consciousness. Abstract:
Actual pedagogical practices begin with beliefs on what constitutes effective teaching. This study examines the relationships between the beliefs in learning theories, differentiation of self, and teaching style (behavior and verbal) of teachers of private secondary schools in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Teachers (n = 301) responded to the My Teaching Style and Profile, Teacher Beliefs in Learning Theories, and Differentiation of Self Questionnaires. Results showed significant relationships between sensing/feeling and sensing/thinking teaching style behavior with to I-position, and emotional reactivity significantly related to sensing/thinking teaching style verbal behavior. Beliefs in some of the learning theories, namely, belief in Erickson’s psychosocial development significantly related to sensing thinking, and intuitive feeling was significantly associated with beliefs in behaviorism. The study concludes that sensing/feeling teachings style was significantly related to beliefs in Kohlberg’s moral development and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Keywords: Education, Learning theories, teaching styles, descriptive research, Cavite,Philippines

Abstract:
Inspired by the spirituality and legacy of St. John Baptist De La Salle, Lasallians are invited to connect with their personal experience of God who is providentially working for the salvation of humankind. Lasallian Spirituality and mission is deeply rooted in the spiritual experience of the Founder. This study attempted to understand how Signum Fidei members live out the Lasallian mission and spirituality. This is a phenomenological study which examined the lived experiences of five (5) participants who were chosen from different Lasallian schools in the Philippines – DLSU – Dasmarinas, DLS – Health and Science Institute, DLS – Zobel, De La Salle Greenhills, and DLS – Lipa. The study determined the first thematic reflections as fruits of significant stories, experiences, thoughts, description. Five (5) thematic reflections emerged from individual structural descriptions: Responding to the Call of Communion and Service; A Faith that should be nurtured and shared; A Gifted to Give; Walking extra miles; and A living and Sustaining Commitment. An eidetic insight revealed that “Upholding the Lasallian Spirituality and Mission is both a Vocation and a Commitment.” A symbolic representation was drawn to serve as a creative synthesis. Signum Fidei members live out their Lasallian vocation as they become living witnesses of how one’s faith moved them to work with zeal in their Lasallian Ministry believing that they are one in mind and heart in the fulfillment of Lasallian Ministry.

Abstract:
From the perspective of disaster management, the proliferation of slums and informal settlers pose a serious problem because their economic status inadvertently drive them to spaces unsuitable for housing. The informal settler often reside in areas prone to flooding, seismic activity and landslides exposing them to a vicious repeat cycle of destruction and loss of life. Sitio Bato, a newly-formed informal settlers’ community in Dasmarinas City, Philippines, is a case point. Situated near a creek and without electricity and water connection (at the start of study in 2019), the residents are seemingly susceptible to disaster hazards. Against this backdrop, this study seeks to discuss the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the residents of Sitio Bato regarding their vulnerability to disasters and the views of selected local government officials regarding the self-assessment of the informal settlers. Through survey among household heads and key informant interviews of local leaders, the following findings were notable in the study. First, the residents were knowledgeable of preventive mechanisms of floods, such as the important function of trees and proper waste disposal to exclude waterways. The residents’ neighborhood organization is recognized by the barangay officials, and hence, their attendance to seminars/training on disaster management might have helped. Second, in terms of attitude, it appears that it is innate for the informal settlers to care for their neighbors, and thus, it is part of their daily activity to check on each other’s family. The lack of electricity encourage them to stay outdoors and talk to each other, strengthening their bond. Third, in terms of practice, disposal of trash to the creek is not done, and hence, water from the creek flows without obstruction. Recyclable trash coming from communities in the upper part of the creek are collected by a few Sitio Bato residents. Overall, residents do not perceive that their living in Sitio Bato as precarious or hazardous. Local officials generally perceive the city’s informal settlers as “privileged” because the services offered by the city government is received by everyone, regardless of the legality of their residence.

Abstract:
This descriptive research inquired on the motivational factors that made teachers stay faithful to the teaching profession. There were 18 teacher–participants from the public and private basic education and secondary school of the City Schools of Dasmarinas. The qualitative part was done through triangulation and was participated by 18 teachers or significant others whose responses shed light on the prime question: ”what made teachers stay faithful to the teaching profession” asked through- narrative inquiry. However, in the journey of searching for the best motivational factors, some weak areas were discovered that paved the way to the formulation of an effective framework of analysis that would help address the not so strong points that hamper teaching effectiveness. Findings revealed that as to personal attributes, the teacher-participants served their schools for more than 6 years; working at their best always; recognition and prestige matters a lot for them; remuneration/ and other benefits were essential for them and equally important was, whatever they will be getting after retirement; with very satisfactory teaching performance; undoubtedly satisfied of the teaching profession, and did find teaching as a stable job. Conversely, there were some factors that teacher-participants were not so happy about and so the framework of analysis was formulated striking the balance between the strong and weak points. The framework has a universal C that stands for competence. C serves as the overall environment of the school with the strong motivational factors under its umbrella that must be sustained/fostered for the teachers to stay faithful to the teaching profession such as prestige and recognition; accountability and remuneration and other benefits. For the teacher-participants, these factors were all significant. The same factors motivated them to stay dedicated to the teaching profession. However, there were found motivational factors considered weak points that hamper teaching effectiveness and forwarded the following recommendations: (a) strengthen the policy on workload reduction and preparation time for learning materials hence, reduce stress; (b) provision for recreational activities that can foster greater camaraderie among employees; (c) provision for a more objective criteria on selection of teachers to participate in seminars funded by the school which must be related to the discipline they teach; (d) review seminar re-echo policy; offer strategic career development plans deemed needed for teachers’ continual improvement; and (e) provision for scholarships programs that can further enhance the potentials of teachers. Toward the end, this study hopes to open doors of improvement and encouragement that could add more flavor to the noblest profession.
