Abstract:
This article discusses the meaning of public space and the problem of public reconstruction by means of sociological intervention through an experimental study of community formation and courtyard space rearrangement in the old neighborhood of Dashilar in Beijing. In the West, scholars regard public space as part of public life with political or social significance. In the courtyards of Dashilar, however, residents understand public space as important as a shared property of neighboring families that is separate from public life, as they are often acquainted with but alienated from one another. To grasp this different understanding of public space, this article first looks into the historical transformation of property rights in Dashilar. The courtyards in Dashilar have clearly been defined as state-owned urban space since the 1980s but have remained neglected in administration. Therefore, residents gradually encroached upon these courtyards that were owned by the state and divided them for private use. As this act of encroaching was rooted in the relationship between the state and the individual, the courtyards were not merely changed into privatized properties with specific functions, but became places for interactions between various actors. To reveal the complexity of these courtyards as public spaces, we discuss the expansion of private space by individuals in their daily life and the “public disturbances” initiated by temporary coalitions in space construction. This complexity of courtyards as public spaces can be well illustrated by two experiments of space rearrangement conducted in Dashilar. Both experiments introduced strong social interventions into space rearrangement: one attempted to rebuild social life in a courtyard, and the other worked on the public and private boundaries in a courtyard. The former experiment ended in failure while the latter was a success. The results of these two experiments tell us that public reconstruction is not just about rebuilding social interactions between people, but also about adjusting the state–individual relationship and establishing the rules of living together in public space.

Abstract:
Although the Emeishan Large Igneous Province (ELIP) has been thoroughly researched, the role of the ELIP in the tectonics of the Songpan–Ganzi extensional basin in the eastern Tibetan Plateau has long been argued without any corroborated and robust evidence. We have investigated the basalt succession of the Dashibao Formation along Xindianzi and Xuecheng sections in the southeast margin of the Songpan–Ganzi Terrane (SGT). New SIMS zircon U-Pb ages and geochemical features of the Dashibao Formation are reported in this paper. Zircons of basalt sample XDZ02-1 yielded a weighted mean age of 259.1 ± 1.66 Ma, which is in alignment with the period when the main eruption of the ELIP occurred. Zircons from two tuff samples XDZ05-1 and XC05-2, overlying the basalt succession, were dated at 251.8 ± 1.57 Ma and 251.5 ± 0.27 Ma, respectively. These new dating results revealed a ~10 Ma eruption for the Dashibao basalts. The Dashibao basalts are geochemically classified into alkaline basalts (Group 1) and tholeiitic basalts (Group 2), which are a part of the Emeishan basalt. We thus propose that the Dashibao basalts erupted in a continental rift setting, located at the margin of the ELIP. The temporal and spatial coincidence of the Dashibao basalt, ELIP, and continental rifting in the western margin of the South China Block suggest that the continental breakup is a response to the Permian mantle plume that triggered the separation of the SGT in the eastern Tibetan Plateau.

Abstract:
The document which is presented here is extant in MS no. 31 of the Library of the Mechitarist Fathers in Vienna. It was described by J. Dashian in his magistral catalogue of that collection. The MS is without colophons and so the names of the scribe, as well as the place in which it was copied, remain unknown. Dashian dated it on palaeographic grounds to the 17th-18th centuries. Although the primary document transmitted is a collection of fables, there are many diverse documents interspersed among them. One is the present work, of which Dashian notes no other copy.

Abstract:
This article collects tourists’ online comments on Ctrip.com, a historical and cultural block in Dashilan, Beijing. Based on grounded theory and text content analysis tool ROST.CM6, it analyzes the perception image of tourists in historical and cultural blocks. Positive perception factors include tourism resources, tourism environment, reception, and traffic location. Negative perception factors can be divided into three aspects: tourism soft environment, reception, and tourism product. Corresponding improvement suggestions are proposed for tourists’ negative perceptions.

Abstract:
Urban community tourism (UCT) is a tourism product that promotes the sustainable development of urban communities. This paper constructs an index system of the influencing factors of UCT development (UCTD), which includes five secondary and 15 tertiary indicators. The weights of the indicators are calculated through expert consultation and questionnaire surveys. Based on the index system, this paper empirically evaluates five typical urban tourism communities in Beijing (i.e., Nanluoguxiang, Shichahai, Dashilan, 798 Art District, and Sanlitun) using expert scoring and online comments. We further analyze the impact mechanism of UCTD qualitatively. The findings show that among the secondary indicators, cultural atmosphere and built environment have higher weights than location conditions, specialty shops, and community participation. Among all the tertiary indicators, eight of them (i.e., cultural themes, ornamental value, frequency of cultural activities, store longevity and popularity, cultural institutions, abundance of distinctive buildings, scenic integrity, and community managers’ willingness to support UCTD) account for 80% of the total weight. In terms of the impact mechanism, 15 factors further affect UCTD through demand for authentic travel experiences, reachability perception, travel shopping demand, and stakeholder coordination.

Abstract:
This paper aims to examine empirically the impact of micro-credit and the living standard of poor people in former enclaves. People of the former enclave economy, like all developing economies, live in rural areas and their living standard are not good. Therefore, the need to improve the living standard of those areas gave birth to the establishment of the Micro-credit organizations in Bangladesh. These organizations targeted low income clients through giving loans and other facilities like savings, insurance, and transfer services to poor low-income households and micro enterprises. Dashier Chara, one of the deprived regions in all former enclaves, was selected to study the impact of Micro credit activities and the living standard of poor people in the area. Primary sources of data collection method were used, and structured schedule also used in the study. The main finding was that the impact of micro credit has contributed positively to improve the living standard of poor people. The contribution was evident in improving their property acquired, housing conditions, livelihood improvement, their income, and subsequently led to good health and education for their families, acquisition of assets. Based on the findings, it is recommended that financial education should be intensified to educate people on financial services.

Abstract:
A trial was conducted with 175 day old Ross broiler chicks to evaluate the effectiveness of Alisma canaliculatum (Water plantain or Theksa), Laminaria japonica (Sea tangle or Dashima) and Cornus officinalis (Cornelain cherry or Sansuyu) medicinal plants treated with probiotics in replacing antibiotic. Three medicinal plants were prepared in dry and flour form with treatment of probiotics. The groups were control (basal diet), antibiotic (basal diet + 0.05% OTC, oxytetracycline), Water plantain treated with Probiotics (WPP) 0.5%, Sea tangle treated with Probiotics (STP) 0.5% and Cornelian cherry treated with Probiotics (CCP) 0.5% in basal diet. The broilers were distributed in a completely randomized design having 5 replications with 7 chicks per replication in wire cage. The data were analyzed by SAS package program. Addition of three medicinal plants in broiler diets didn’t show negative effect on growth and feed conversion efficiency in broilers. Significantly highest protein percentage in broiler meat was found in groups fed the three medicinal plants treated with probiotics (WPP, STP and CCP) compared with other groups (P<0.05). Crude ash also increased significantly by the three medicinal plants addition compared to control especially in breast meat (P<0.05). Addition of probiotics treated with medicinal plants had similar beneficial effects on most of the observed parameters to those found in antibiotic-fed groups, so it implies that these three medicinal plants can be the possible alternatives to antibiotic for broiler production.Asian J.
