Full textThis doctoral thesis emphacises the universal relation between subjet and culture from the standpoint of the psychoanalytic postulate of the unconscious as determining the fundamental lack of the subject, all of this beyond particular cultural declensions which “metaphorise” – through the signifiers of each culture – the fundamental prohibition which structures this relation as well as the cultural commandments thereby expressed. For this purpose, we base ourselves on the subjective experience of exile in real life as suspending the fundamental illusions of belonging, more specifically within the context of our clinical encounter with a member of the Roma migrant community within the Ile-de-France region. When using the term “Roma”, we refer to cultural and social backgrounds which, from the point of view of psychoanalysis, function according to symbolic coordinates. Such coordinates, before becoming culturally specific, are universal through what Freud designates as Kultur: the subject, who is subjected to the fundamental prohibition, finds a meaningful place within the order of generations and within gender differences. It is from this place that the subject, who must make do with his lack – lack which declines and circulates within the signifiers of his culture –, weaves his desire. If any particularity is to be taken into account, it must be located within the social conditions determining the migratory movement: the compositional safeguarding of the community's social structures even in foreing land permits the subject's initial symbolic configuration within his place of belonging to be conserved. Hence, if the symbolic mooring of the migrant Roma is not lost, even though he is constantly confronted with an imaginary overrun with figures of foreignness, it is because he has sealed its inscription within an elsewhere which is unalienable and intangible (said Athiganos in ancient Greek) as an immediate consequence of the unfamiliarity and the disallowance of a place among the others.Following this view we may understand, in such a particular migratory context, how exile does not commence with displacement, but rather through separation from a community of belonging, through confrontation with the lack of meaning within oneself – lack of meaning emerging within the encounter with the foreigner, radically questionning the subject's original symbolic place.Facing the exiled subject's nostalgic evocation of his loss, the clinician's task is to respectfully acknowledge these contents – as lost objects, which are presented by the patient as being of cultural order – , and go beyond, to focus upon the psychic process of loss itself, as well as the weakening of identity as a trial endured by the subject, as the latter becomes orphaned from the illusions founding the membership and symbolic place which suppored hitherto his desire. The questions arising from such a context will be those which lead to the patient's subjectivity, bringing out the fault lines of his symbolic composition: doubts of his origins, of the family order, of linkages with parents, of the rights and privileges of his siblings, of his own sexual choices, etc.Throughout our clinical follow-up, we observed a subjective usage of the place given to the foreigner, as a symbolic territory of alienation indispensable to the subjet facing the threatening desire of the feminin Other, from which the subject flees through a movement of auto-exile. If met and acknowledged through speech, he could metaphorise himself in a prolific exile. Following the operation of such subjective uprooting was the possibility that a symbolic space other than that of the origins be invested, metaphorised through social accomodation, to become a space capable of accomodating the initial subjective exile

Full textThe purpose of this study was to investigate how professionals within the performing arts experience the public ban as a result of Covid-19. To answer the researche question and shed light on the individual actor's experiences of the phenomenon, a qualitative research method has been applied. A semi-structured interview guide was designed based on the research question and used during the interviews. Four people participated in the study, two of whom were dancers and two theater actors. The question was; How do professionals within the performing arts experience the restrictions regarding audience limitation in their performance? The collected data were analyzed with thematic analysis and four themes were established. The audience's physical presence provides energy, Getting back from the audience, Other paths to performance and the digital space expands. The results of the study indicate that an absent audience had a perceived effect on the actor's energy, nervousness, adrenaline and motivation. Furthermore, the direct response of a present audience seems to be related to external rewards and motivational factors. The result also showed an increased use of digital aids since Covid-19 as physical meetings were not possible. This is perceived to have created new challenges in terms of media and the creative process.
Phd thesis, Univerzitet u Novom Sadu, Filozofski fakultet u Novom Sadu, 2017. https://www.cris.uns.ac.rs/record.jsf?recordId=104390&source=NDLTD&language=en.
Full textOur dissertation deals with elements of the Francophone civilization in teaching the French language. While teaching students with the French language knowledge (level A1-B2), we noticed that they are less familiar with elements of Francophone culture, and more familiar with elements of French culture, meaning the culture of the territory of present-day France. That led us to perform an analysis of Francophone elements in textbooks used for teaching French as a foreign language which are used on the territory of Serbia. Our corpus was extracted from a hundred and twenty textbooks and methods used for teaching the French language, starting from the period of World War Two up to 2013. These methods were published on the territory of former Yugoslavia, present-day Serbia, and present-day France. The first part of the dissertation explains the reasons behind the choice of the topic, the aims of dissertation and its structure. This part also indicates the position of learning French as a foreign language in the current educational system of Serbia. This is followed by a theoretical overview of perspectives on the notions of civilization, culture, and language which are inseparable in learning a foreign language, including the notion of interculturality which is one of the mandatory competencies in teaching foreign languages today. After that, a look at the French and Francophone civilization in teaching the French language from the perspectives of the former and present-day territory of our country is provided. The third part of the dissertation explains the notion of Francophony, provides the reasons why it is significant in teaching the French language, what its role is and what it represents today. The notion of a Francophone element is also defined with a description of French language textbooks used from the period of World War Two on the territory of present-day Serbia, including thematic categories according to which the Francophone elements are classified. The fourth chapter is dedicated to analyzing the corpus which has previously been divided into the following thematic categories: “language varieties”, “geography”, “famous persons, cultural monuments, history”, “graphic arts, sculpting, and architecture”, “literature”, “music”, “film”, “press and documentary texts”, and “comic books”. This part of the dissertation displays Francophone elements through basic pedagogical material, their use, as well as language competencies they are prescribed for.The last phase of the dissertation suggests additional pedagogical material, several authentic Francophone documents, as well as their application in teaching French as a foreign language, all with the aim of maximizing their use.XBased on the performed analysis, a conclusion can be made that the Francophone elements are underrepresented in teaching the French language and that their presence should be increased through various and diverse pedagogical material, especially when it is taken into consideration that they can be fitted into already existing textbooks which is displayed by examples at the very end of the dissertation.
Kretz, Emil, and Alba Lindblad.
Grebius, Sofia, and Jane Karlsson. Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Thematic Studies, 2004. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-2433.
Full textThis study examines the nature and possible causes of the changes in the art and artistry of Abdul Rahim Ghafori, an Afghan artist who has migrated to Sweden. The premise of this paper is that over time a person who migrates to another culture will undergo change. In an artist this change should manifest itself in his art and artistry. The study examines this process of change and how it is manifested in the artistry and art of Abdul Rahim Ghafori. The study intends to increase knowledge and understanding of the changes a person undergoes when experiencing a culture change.

Full textÄlvsjö is a strong traffic hub with good rail and bus connections and a destination for all visitors to the popular Stockholmsmässan. A cultural school would strengthen and develop the site further as a meeting place and connect Älvsjö center, Älvsjö station with Stockholmsmässan. A cultural meeting place where children and young people between 6-22 years can meet in conjunction with cultural activities such as dance, music, theater and art. The concept is to create a distinct public way through the building that takes the visitor from the Älvsjö station down to the park and possibly further on to Stockholmsmässan. The Cultural highway is public and accessible for everybody. Let people take note of what is happening in the cultural school and be part of the exhibitions and performances taking place. The Cultural highway is the hub of the cultural school where childrens, teenagers and their parents gathers in anticipation of the lessons. The Cultural highway is the foyer and the main room in the school where other visitors can use it as a passage and take part of what happens in the building with all its cultural activities. Zuckerman, Lola, and Layla Zami. "Contemporary PerforMemory." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/18656.
Full textThe dissertation by L. Zuckerman (aka Layla Zami) explores the interrelations and interactions between memory, movement, diaspora, and spacetime in 21st century dance productions. In an innovative transcultural, transdisciplinary and transtemporal approach, the publication focuses on solo works by seven contemporary dancers-choreographers based in Germany, France, Taiwan, Martinique, Palestine and the USA. Contending that corporeality is a site and a source of power, the research asks what happens when moving bodies propel the past into the present, metaphorically and materially. The author introduces a new concept: (to) perforMemory, which is both a noun and a verb, and discusses the specificity of dance in the production and transmission of cultural memory in relation to historical trauma such as the Holocaust, the Transatlantic Slave Trade, Maafa, the Nakba and contemporary sociopolitical challenges. Conceived in a spiral-like fashion, the book takes the reader through diasporic dancescapes in which notions of identity, home, embodiment, spatiality and temporality unfold and are brought into resonance with each other in the discussion of specific dance examples. The theoretical references connect such various fields as gender studies, dance and performance studies, cultural memory studies, postcolonial studies, literature, quantum physics, queer studies and poetry. Based on doctoral research conducted across the globe from 2013 to 2017, the electronic publication also features the full interview transcripts of personal conversations recorded by the author with the artists Oxana Chi, Zufit Simon, Wan-Chao Chang, André M. Zachery, Farah Saleh, Christiane Emmanuel and Chantal Loïal, as well as links to audiovisual performance excerpts.
